3. INTRODUCTION
The structure of Indian society has always been
male dominated. But in the modern era, women
tried to break the centuries of shackles by
venturing into male dominated areas. Though, we
have grown by leaps and bounds yet the most
basic structure of society is showing no signs of
improvement.

4. WHAT IS EVE TEASING?
Sexual harassment in India is often referred to by the
euphemism, ‘Eve Teasing’.
The use of sexual innuendo, making of indecent suggestions
and sometimes minor physical sexual harassment (e.g.
"accidental" touching or pinching). In Indian terms of the
word ‘Eve’ refers to the biblical reference of eve tempting
Adam to stray from the path of righteousness. The English
Dictionary defines ‘tease’ to tempt someone sexually with no
intention of satisfying. Both terms are used to portray women
in a form of ‘eve teasing’. Therefore men are fully within
their right to take compulsorily.

5.  Eve teasing is told to be a truly common issue in
India, mainly affecting women and tourist, the increasing
numbers of eve teasing are becoming a problem to the
Indian community but mainly the victims.
 Eve teasing is a huge issue in many metropolitan
cities of India. . A large percentages of Indian women
have faced or are facing this menace. Whether it is a
public transport system or public places or shopping
malls or multiplexes, women find themselves vulnerable
to the threat of eve teasing everywhere. Eve teasing is
complex problem and it requires more attention that
what it has actually got.

6. Eve teasing is a common evil practiced against women
in public places and is often used as a method to show
women their ‘rightful’ place by the patriarchy. Women
are often subjected to groping, suggestive remarks,
whistling, catcalls and the like by men in public places
like markets, malls, streets and roads, movie halls, in
buses etc.

7. CAUSES OF EVE-TEASING
• Eve teasing with time is increasing day by day not only in the
urban areas but also in the rural areas. What are the causes for
eve teasing and what leads people to do eve teasing? Is it the
girls who are responsible or the boys?
• - Today’s youth is influenced by media and that there is no
censor on the content of media be it on the internet, television
or films
• - It is the girls who do not report such cases of eve teasing in
the police, if they take any such action against the men who
are involved in teasing, it would reduce to a great extent
• - The gender discrimination which is rooted in each and every
individuals mind is also one of the reason why people are
motivated to get involved into these types of activities

8. • - Illiterate and boisterous boys are usually involved, so it does
not matter what is the body language or the clothes the girls
are wearing, it is inherent in their nature.
• - Equality between both the genders does not go down well
with boys even in today’s time and hence it also leads for
them to do eve teasing, as the usual impact is that the girls
resent and then resort to sit at home.
• - Rejections in love by a girl is another reason that the boys
resort to eve teasing as this is the form in which they take
revenge

- It’s not the boys or the girls who are solely responsible.
Today the environment as well as the media plays an
important role in shaping the nature and stirring you to be
involved in such kind of activities

1. The morale of women suffers-it leads to low confidence and
shattering of inner peace and mind.

difficult for the victim to actually trust someone.
4. Insecurity-women feel in secured all the time, it becomes
difficult for them to travel or go about anywhere in alone,
because they continuously feel the threat.

6. Under severe situations, there is desperate step of suicide.

10. HISTORICAL DATA
According to The National Crime Records Bureau,
the number of cases on eve teasing increased by
7% during 2012 when compared to 2011. The
national average for the number of eve teasing
cases reported for the year 2012 was 1.6 with
Andhra Pradesh having the highest incidence rate
for the same.

4. A general survey was conducted in which people were asked

•Eve teasing should be prevented from the root.
•Many of the victim commit suicide hence taking away
life's of many girls and women's.
If people are more aware about eve teasing and educated
enough that it is a social crime the rate of eve teasing could
get reduced.
