3. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My mast head does follow conventions as it follows the colour scheme of the magazine (purple, blue, white, grey and black). It also has been placed across the top of the magazine like any typical magazine. I made sure to add Cover lines and strap lines as they are common in magazines and give it the professional look. The sell line helps draw in the reader while the cover lines tell the reader what is going to be inside the magazine itself. I also gave a list of what can be found in the magazine across the bottom.
4. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Underneath the title of the magazine I added a slogan “The best magazine for Hip-Hop and Rnb lovers” so that it helps people to remember the magazine and it also helps to hint the kind of genre that the magazine specializes in. I added the date that the magazine will go out and the issue number just to give the reader some background information. I also added the magazine website on the left hand side so that if the readers wanted to fin out more about the magazine they could go online, many well known magazines do this.
5. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? For my contents page I done the standard thing for a contents title and put it across the top, nice and bold so that it is the first thing that you read when you look at the page. Like many contents pages I made it picture heavy, instead of having more text and placed the text around the picture.
6. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Again I stuck to the colour scheme and like many well known magazines had a regulars column, these would articles, writers that the regular readers would be accustomed too.
7. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? For my double page spread I had a massive picture of the artists that were featuring covering up most of the page as most magazines do. I also made the title big and easy to read while still following the colour scheme. I also quoted the band, many magazines do this as it helps draw in the intention of the reader.
8. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? The age of the audience would be around about the same as the age of the band, adolescents will be the main people to read it. Also the costumes that the artists on the front cover are those of a “street” culture. Most of the readers will be from the same culture so the clothes that the band are wearing will be something they will be able to relate to.
9. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? Just like vibe magazine the picture for my front cover had presents, there’s almost a hint of a dark side to it. Vibe is a well known Hip-Hop magazine, so for my front cover picture to have a likeness to theirs it shows the genre of music it is portrayin
10. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? I feel that the contents page really does represent the genres of music that they are meant to portray, as both genres of music have a seriousness to them and that is shown by the picture I chose to feature on it. Also by having a piano across it shows the musical side to the contents page which is obviously a vital point in a music magazine.
11. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? The artists featuring in the magazine is showing confidence and artists who are famous in Hip-Hop and Rnb always exude confidence. When the readers see that they will know that the artists mean business and they will look up to them as a confident figure.
12. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? I have also represented the audience I am writing for by having a big picture on the double page spread. The average teenage is drawn in by pictures not text and by having the ratio of big picture to text will draw in the target reader.
13.
14.
15.
16. 4. Who would the audience be for your media product? My magazine would be mainly aimed at C1, C2 and De people. People who work more with their hands but as the magazine is aimed at a younger audience, most of their money will be coming from their parents.
17.
18.
19.
20.
21. 5. How did you attract/address your audience? I attracted the audience by adding cover lines that would draw in the specific audience I wanted as they were about articles that would attract a Hip-Hop Rnb lover. The force, the way I made this piece of text was big and it just stands out from the rest of the magazine. Putting a kind of fog like effect behind the text added a new layer of interest to it.
22. 5. How did you attract/address your audience? Most of the people I interviewed said that they liked that I had kept to the colour scheme and that the colour si had picked were colours that were liked by most of them. Also the piano was really interesting the way that its shot so that it looks like its going off into the distance intrigued some of the readers.
23. 5. How did you attract/address your audience? Also the effect that had been applied to the image was interesting. Along with the whole contents page being in black and white with colour splashes of purple and blue help give dynamics to the page. I also put the contents page into categories so that it would help the reader even more to quickly find what they are looking for.
24. 5. How did you attract/address your audience? I attracted the audience by varying the different types of text and colours used on the text so that they didn’t get bored of the double page spread. I also highlighted some of the writing so that the reader is quickly drawn to it. I used the colour splashes of blue against the black and white was very effective.
25. 5. How did you attract/address your audience? Also I made the magazine very formal, almost as if the editor is talking to the reader as if they was a friend. In the interview the language that was used, was the language used by the everyday teenage and this will be something that the reader will be able relate to.
26.
27.
28.
29. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? On the front cover a lot of my text is highlighted, all this is done in Photoshop. All I had to do is make a box and fill it with cover, then using the layers just write a contrasting piece text over it.
30. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Also a lot of my text like the word contents and the phrase the future was taken from the website www.dafont.com and was then afterwards manipulated so that it would look good for the magazine.
31. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I used stroke on “THE FORCE” to help highlight it. This is the line that goes all around the text. For this text I put a grey line around the edge to help to stick to the colour scheme. I think without using stoke the text would not have been so eye-catching and it would have looked as good as it came out.
32.
33.
34.
35. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? For example in my contents page there is a keyboard in it. The original image (above) was too big and wouldn’t quite fit in with the contents page and really all I wanted was the actual keys of the keyboard. By using Photoshop I was able to select what I wanted from the picture and paste it into my contents page.
36. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Also the keyboard, the band and the stripes behind them are separate images and all were done on Photoshop. All the photos were not taken in black and white but by using Photoshop I was able to drain them of their colour which made them all neatly fit in together.
37. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Although my front cover and contents page was made in Photoshop my double page spread was made in design and In design was also used to bring the whole magazine together as this cannot be done in Photoshop. In Design helped me a lot and it helped me visualise what the magazine would look like in the end.
38. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I used a very of effects and tools that could be found in InDesign on the left hand side to make my double page spread and in the end it turned out just the way I wanted it too.
39. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? By using InDesign on ma contents page I was able to put a small picture of my front cover in the right hand corner, so I was able to show that this is the first issue and how the reader would be able to get a gd price to subscribe to the magazine.
40. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I also learnt how to create a blog on blogger so that I will be able to present all my work to be marked. Although I may have had some problems with uploading to blogger, in the end I figured it out as was able to easily upload all my work.
41.
42.
43. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Uploading to slideshare may be a little confusing at first but afterwards it becomes quite simple and a quick way of uploading your work, that'll look presentable.
44.
45.
46.
47.
48. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Comparing the contents page: Preliminary Task Main Task
49. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Comparing the contents page: For my preliminary task all the text was in one place and just kept to the left but for my main task I spread the text out and made it change colour to make it that little bit more interesting. In my first magazine I anchored all my images but for my second magazine I decided not to.
50. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Comparing the contents page: For my second magazine I chose to go black and white but my first magazine is a lot more lively and instead of sticking to the convention of having the contents across the top or on the top left, I chose to put it in the top right. The first magazine has a quotation but in the second I only had a quotation on my double page spread.
51. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Unlike the preliminary task the main task included a double page spread, so this was something new to me but I think that in the end I ended up with a good double page spread. I done some research on double spread so that I was able to find out what a typical double spread page looked like. I added a quote so that people could get a hint of what would be in the magazine. I added the website to the double page spread as well, I thought this would be a good idea just to remind the reader where they can find out more. I still kept to the colour scheme for the colour scheme and I think that the colours worked well together.
