The document evaluates Lucas Foyen's opening sequence for his film "Troubled Minds". It analyzes how the sequence uses conventions of drama genre like font, settings, and shots to convey a dark, gloomy feeling and make the main character Lucas seem small and insignificant. It also discusses similarities between "Troubled Minds" and the film "Ill Manors" in their portrayal of drugs and downward spirals. The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Unit 8 - Information and Communication Technology (Paper I).pdfThiyagu K
This slides describes the basic concepts of ICT, basics of Email, Emerging Technology and Digital Initiatives in Education. This presentations aligns with the UGC Paper I syllabus.
2. Uses or challenges Conventions
Uses the conventions of society
Obviously if a boy witnesses his parents die right in front of him he will go quickly
into a downward spiral that won’t stop unless somebody intervenes.
Substance abuse is a well known thing to occur when somebody is depressed,
has extreme anxiety and is stressed.
The conventions of my chosen genre, drama, are as follows. The specific actions
taken by me in the creation of this opening sequence, has given the movie the
desired dramatic effect.
The font used in my opening sequence convey the drama genre.
3. Continuation of previous slide
The settings used all convey a dark feeling.
When Lucas is in his room, and falling asleep in the train station.
These shots make Lucas seem small and insignificant and make the audience
feel like this is what Lucas thinks of himself.
As I have mentioned, my opening sequence has been influenced by the opening
scene to Plan B’s film, Ill Manors
In the opening sequence he uses a shot from very high up to make the people
seem small.
In the scenes filmed in the house Lucas is wearing clothes that he would wear
4. Similarities
My film is very similar to Plan B’s film, Ill Manors
It shows in Ill Manors that getting mixed in with the wrong crowd is never a good
thing.
This is also demonstrated in the “Basic Idea” of my film.
Ill Manors and Troubled Minds both surround drugs and the problems
surrounding.
And both of the opening sequences show someone using drugs and time lapses
too.
5. Representing Social Groups
Troubled Minds does not look at one specific social group.
It focuses on someone that has had a traumatic experience which affects the
years to come.
It shows that maybe drugs is a temporary solution but not a permanent one.
And all this is shown all over the world with many different people, no matter
their gender, age, sexuality, ethnicity, etc.
My movie shows the life of one boy that uses drugs to fight of depression and
anxiety.
Obviously there will be some people out there that will think that all teenagers
6. Continuation of last slide
I do not show any ethnic minorities in my film and if I were to show any in my film,
I would not try to put anyone or any group in a negative light as I do not
believe in being racist or using offensive stereotypes to get my point across.
7. Distribution of Media
To get my movie out there I would definitely use the Web or TV
On the internet, I would aim for netflix. So many people nowadays use netflix to
watch tv shows or movies so it would be an amazing platform to get my movie
out there.
On the TV I would go for a channel such as Film Four in the UK.
Film Four shows all the best rated films out there so if my film get popular enough
that they would put ot on Film Four, it would be a game changer for my movie
in terms of how many people watch it and popularity of the film.
8. Audience
My opening sequence keeps the audience interested by the array of different
shots.
Because they are different and don’t reveal much of the storyline, the audience
will want to watch my movie.
I want my audience to watch my film because if they like it they will share it with
friends and family.
If that keeps happening my film will become very popular.
9. Technology
From constructing this product I have learnt that I should not take technology for
granted.
There are so many things to learn about the things I used to create my film, from
the camera to the editing software.
I have used Adobe Premiere Pro and iMovie to create my opening sequence.
And there is still so much I could learn from these programmes that I don’t
already know.
10. Finally
From my initial idea to my finished product I have learnt a few things.
That some things that you thought would work well in the opening sequence, will
not and some things won’t work out the way you want.
But In this whole processed I have gained some very useful skills.
I can work a camera better than I had hoped to.
And I am able to use editing software that I thought was too difficult in the first
place.
