How does your product use or
challenge convention and how
does it represent social group or
issues?
 Convention are generally accepted way of doing something.
There are general convention in any medium. All genre of film
have certain convention which the audience will expect to see.
 Through out the making of this video I used number of different
of convention to convey the horror and little bit suspense genre.
 I used dim lights in whole video to further support the horror
convention.
 The name of this movie is “THE LAST CALL” which more signifies
the horror genre . These kind of title are usually common for
horror film which sometimes give a hint of the film and type of
the story.
 I used the convention by using different sound tracks to generate
more horror and to increase the strength of horror genre.
 A horror mostly consisted of a story showing a chain of events
which builds tension and to increase fear amongst the audience. I
have used other convention of a horror such as low key lightning,
shadows and a music which creates fear amongst the watchers .
 The props which is mostly used in these kind of films
are mostly television, laptop, glass with blood, piano
and mostly cupboard and I haven't used bunch of
these things but I have used some of them in my
opening sequence.
 The main device of the horror film is fear giving the
viewers more curiosity to watch this movie. My movie
is a combination of horror and a little bit suspense.
 As I have kept more horror so teenage group will be
more involved toward this movie.
 The social issue in my movie opening is that sleep is
really important in person life.
 If the subject would have been sleeping then he/she
would have not been killed.
 Working late night at office because of the fear that
their boss might fire them if they didn’t submit the work
on dead line and they can risk their life for that. This is
clearly shown in my clip.
SOCIAL ISSUES
 My film emphasis on teenage workers who risk their life
in order to full fill their boos demands.
 My aim was to attract mainly the group of age 16 to 30 as
it is horror so it wont be suitable for group less then 16 as
they are least interested in killing and bloodshed and
group above age 30 are more interested in politics.
 Horror movies are mostly watched by males and teenage
girls.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES
How does your product engage
with audience and how would it
be distributed as a real media
text?
 If I were to pick a distribution company to distribute my
film I would choose warner brothers.
 It is one of the big six production companies who
distribute both high budget and low budget film.
 I would also like to distribute my product online and
through social media such as Facebook ,YouTube,
Twitter as it target wider age group and wider audience.
 As my film is low budget the risk involved would be less
as distribution would be limited.
 The USP(unique selling point) of my movie opening
would be revenge or the murder which will force the
audience to watch the film to find the answer.
 The story line is plot in a way that the viewers are
forced to think that this might happen to them
which will make them more scare and increase
their fear like shown in other horror.
 In my opinion the horror plot and the camera
movement would invite more audience ,
everything is not expressed too easily, this give the
viewer to get more involved in the movie and try
to find the reason behind the bloodshed.
 Now a days people expect different terrifying
things other than piano played by itself, a rocking
chair , a cupboard and a clapping voice the phone
line is cut in this way I have also challenged the
convention.
How did your production skill
develop through out your
project?
 I got to learn many different things between my first project of
my semester and my final portfolio.
 I got to learn different camera angles such as Point of view, close
up, wide shot and camera movement such as panning, tilt. I aslo
learned about diegetic and non diegetic sound and I have used
non diegetic sound which is the background music. I also got to
see things in different manner and from different directions.
 The most important thing I learned to be patient as nothing is
right in first go.
 The editing and lightning were also the main thing I got to know
and further more I learned about the Mise En Scene such as
props, makeup and hairs, location and action. And where and
why to use the rule of third.
 I also learned how to cooperate with the background music and
which music which genre.
As far as the shooting
part was concerned,
during this period I got
to learn different things
about this project, I was
able to learn a lot about
how to make certain
impressions on the
viewer about what I
wanted as the producer
and to grab their
attention in 2 min.
POINT OF VIEW SHOT CLOSE UP SHOT
WIDE SHOT
How did you integrate technology
software, hardware?
 The software I used for my
movie opening sequence were:
• Sonny Vegas for editing and
filter
• YouTube for inspiration
• Sound cloud for background
music.
• Google for pictures.
• Vimeo for inspiration.
• Video maker for fade out
technique.
 The camera (DSLR) I used for
my final portfolio was Canon
D 1200 along with tripod
WST 3550 for steady shots.
The lens I used was 18mm to
50mm. The picture size:
neutral, image quality: RAW
and variations for ISO for
different scenes
 I used sonny Vegas for my
editing and filter and video
maker for dissolve
techniques and fade in and
out.
