Evaluation question2
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Age
Age range: Teenagers and young adults who enjoy mystery thriller and
films. They probably have some form of job e.g. part time waitressing
and therefore have enough income to spend on cinema tickets
My media product represents the social group of teenagers and young adults who
watch mystery thrillers. I think I have achieved this through the different media
conventions, techniques, visual and sound effects I have used. We also achieved this
as we used two young children and a teenage girl as our characters.
I think I have met all of the aspects of a mystery thriller film and have represented
the particular social group well. My media product does not really divide social
groups through gender and age as it is aimed for all gender types and ages above
the age of 12. For example the sounds I have used throughout the product are quite
loud and dramatic to emphasise the scary cuts and edits I have made.
I have aimed my product at both males and
females as I wanted to attract a wider target
audience. As I have used the image of a light
lamp for the poster of the thriller feel I was
able to attract both genders as it doesn’t
indicate whether its targeted at male or
females. In order to represent the social group
“teenagers and young adults” I looked at
existing products and did research on the
internet of mystery thriller films. I noticed that
there was a very stereotypical view on thriller
posters as most of them had images of faces
and people. Therefore I have tried to challenge
the stereotype in my thriller opening through
what the people were wearing in my images.
Also from my research I looked at the hobbies
and interests of my social group and tried to
focus on this in my opening.
