1. How does your media product represent particular social
groups?
2. In spy films, black people are mostly shown as administrator,
playing roles of heads of government organisation (such as
CIA or MI6) and governments officials of different department
and offices (such as government agents).
Here you can see how computer
hackers are represented in blockbuster
films, from various racial group.
Muslim or middle east
citizens are sometimes
represented terrorist.
These images are taken from my media project, and here
you can see some similarity between my film opening the
characters in big Hollywood films.
3. Men are dominantly
shown as the main
protagonist in most of
the thriller films and
when it comes to spy
films men can only be
the main protagonist.
Only a few films has a
woman in a leading
role.
My media product has a similar contrast as
popular spy films that in my media product
you would see only men.
We barely see any
female character in a
leading role and
dominant on a poster.
Only a few poster such
as SPY shows a female
as dominant in the film.
In my media product I didn’t have any
female character, mostly because
men are dominant in spy thriller
films.
4. These images show the
characters from my media
product, all of them seem to
be young, aged between 20-
30, I think this matches other
films were the lead characters
are usually young or ages 20s
or 30s.
In this image you can
see the spies are
represented as young
and glamorous same
as my idea of having a
young spy.
Here in these two images you can see
the spies are aged over 50s (by
looking at them), but represented as
very powerful and expert.
5. Δ I have had various ethnic characters in my media product, Black,
mixed (Black and White), Asian and more. This proves the media
product to be discovered by everyone belonging to different racial
groups.
Δ Mostly men were in leading roles, as you can only see men during
the whole media product. That is because mostly male characters
are represented as best suitable, female characters are also
essential for a spy thriller as they are usually shown as glamorous
and attractive. But having only male characters playing the
important roles are not only because men dominates in spy thriller
movies but I didn’t have any female group member in my group so
there wasn’t any need of involvement of a female actor.
Δ All the characters in my media product were very young which can
involve more and more young audiences as the youngsters would
be curious as what they are able to do at their age. Also my film has
targeted young audience as the mass audience.
