Props and costumes
1.
2. The first prop we used was in the therapy session and
this was a coffee mug and sheets of paper used by
Sophia- the therapist. This was to make to room seem
more office type and realistic. Sophia shuffles through
the papers as they are Lucy’s file and see’s a history on
her parents, this confirms to the viewer that this is a
therapy session. The coffee mug is used to make the
session seem less serious and connotes Sophia as a
friendlier character . We used match on action with the
cup so our film had more interesting shots in it.
3. In the flashback scenes we used two important props.
The first was the beer bottle, this was seen next to David after Lucy had killed him. It
was there to make the plotline make sense as David was an alcoholic and this was
connoted through the bottle.
Our next prop was the bloody knife and this was the murder weapon.
It is used throughout the flashbacks, firstly when Lucy is rummaging
around the draw and it is clean. We next see it covered in blood,
we did this to tell the viewer what happened but not physically
show the murder happening because we didn’t want to give
away too much of the plot line.
4. The final prop we used was the
mirror, this is stereotypically used
in psychological thrillers therefore
we felt it was important to include.
The mirror shows Lucy reflecting
on her recent actions and
because off the sound effects of
the voices it could imply she has
two different minds that she can’t
control, this idea is what makes
our film a psychological thriller.
5. From our research on
psychological thrillers we learnt
that the clothes worn were
normal to create a sense of
realism. Therefore we dressed
Lucy in casual clothing,
something a teenager would
wear so people could identify her
age and Sophia was dressed
more formally in a blouse and
trousers to demonstrate she is in
a professional job and an older
character.
