Looking back at the preliminary task and the full film product, there were several key film techniques learned: 1) The 180 degree rule, which keeps the camera on one side of an imaginary axis between characters, was applied more challenging during an open drug deal scene compared to a simple scene around a table. 2) Match on action, where movement continues between shots, was harder to execute during a fight scene where an actor had to grab a knife in the same way both times, versus a simple shot of a character walking through a door. 3) Shot/reverse shot technique, using a 180 degree change in camera angle during a conversation, was improved upon from the preliminary to the final film, though it

2. 180 degree rule
• The 180 degree rule is the rule that the camera
must not cross an imaginary line called the axis
that goes through the centre of the characters
on screen
• We learnt this whilst filming our preliminary
exercise as the camera always stayed at one
side of the table, this was very simple as we
had a set line. then in our film we used it
during the drug deal which was much harder
as we were in an open space with no set line

3. match on action
• When movement continues from one shot into another shot
• During our preliminary exercise we used match on action as the
character walked through the door, this was a very simple match on
action as the door is solid and will always open in the same way
• Whilst filming the fight scene we did a match and action as sugar d
grabs the knife, this was extremely hard to do as the actor had to grab
the knife in the same way both times

4. shot/reverse shot
• a 180 degree change in the camera angle during a conversation to
show facial expressions
• Shot reverse shots are much easier to do than match on action as the
two shots are different so the don’t need to match up perfectly.
During the preliminary our shot reverse shots were Fairley well done
but in the actual fil you can see the vast improvement
