Evaluation Question 6
“What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?”
Filming
To film my short film for AS Media, I used the Canon EOS 600D
with the standard 18-55mm kit lens. I kept all settings to default as
I wanted the lighting to appear as natural as possible. It was filmed
at a quality of 1080p at 24 frames per second for maximum quality.
The set was very small, so a tripod was not used.
Editing Software
I imported all my footage into premiere pro, where it was edited.
Premiere Pro allowed me to easily and quickly edit my short film
to adequate length. The clips could be moved around very simply,
and trimming them wasn’t difficult.
Editing Techniques
One of the main aspects of the film that required editing was
the sound input. The dialogue was very loud due to the echo of
the room, so I lowered the volume of the audio file in Premiere
Pro. The dipped parts of the line mean that the sound has been
lowered:
Editing Techniques
Another editing technique I used was sound overlay. This
means taking the sound from one clip and putting over the
rest. To explain, the character unravels a piece of paper,
which is shot from multiple angles; mid shots and an
extreme close up. To make sure the sound wasn’t jumpy
from clip to clip, the carried the sound of the unravelling
paper from one of the angles and laced it over the rest.
This is what I mean:
This sound is
from this
clip.
Editing Techniques
I didn’t often cut from one shot to another very quickly, as I
wanted to drag out the scene, to make the audience feel like they
are experiencing this event in real time. Some shots are filmed at
Dutch angles to communicate distress and fear, and close ups were
used to highlight the emotion on the characters face.
Exporting
The final version of the film was exported as a wmplayer.exe
file onto my computer. This file was to then be uploaded onto
various forms of media, such as Blogger and YouTube.
Production
I uploaded the film onto YouTube to have people view it and
provide feedback (Question 5). This allowed for it to be seen
by a vast audience quickly and efficiently. It was also uploaded
to Blogger for teacher feedback and for the examiner to view
and mark the piece.
