The student learned several skills from collaboratively constructing a blog and film project. They used a blog to post updates and receive feedback, and learned how to design and format a blog. SurveyMonkey was used to collect feedback, and YouTube and social media helped share work. Skills learned included uploading videos to YouTube, inserting screenshots, and using a microphone, camera, tripod, and lighting rig for filming. Editing software taught continuity editing, split screens, adjusting volume and fades, adding text, rendering, and shortcuts to improve efficiency. Feedback helped improve lighting, effects, and overall production quality.

2. How did you use a blog to work
collaboratively?
We all collaboratively used the blog by adding all our emails to the
people who could edit the blog (in settings), we posted all our ideas and
logged our process. We used blogger.com . I learnt more about how to
design a blog and post to a blog (embedding HTMLs and editing the
format).
I also learnt how to use surveymonkey to post questions up and learnt
how much the power of social media aids feedback (sharing to
Facebook).
Also, YouTube means that we could post and share each task; we could
share it to social media sites to get feedback and showcase our work. I
learnt more about uploading videos to YouTube, getting them to the right
file format & adding tabs in order for the public to find your video.
I learnt about the clipping tool and also the ‘insert’>> ‘screenshot’ in word
and PowerPoint which was very useful.

3. How did you film your work?

We had an issue with the microphone in the final cut and we used
solved this by using a Rode Shotgun Microphone and inserted the USB
stick into the computer to dub in the dialogue which worked really well; it
was clear.
We used higher quality profilmic effects for the ‘5’ effect because we got
feedback from the teachers that the pen drawn on
the hand was not ‘horror’ enough and it would look more
professional.
We solved the inconsistent lighting by
using a lighting rig (held by me).
The tracking dolly was borrowed from the
school and gave a really good professional
effect to our piece and a sense of
foreboding.
I learnt that mise-en-scene makes all the
difference, whether it be the polaroids,
the lighting, the costume or the profilmic
effects.

4. How did you edit your piece?
We used Adobe Premiere Elements. I learnt a lot more about editing and
have learnt more techniques; my future pieces can now be of higher quality.

5. I learnt how to use continuity editing effectively to produce a clean final piece. The
split screen effect can be used if you hover over the line between 2 clips until there
is a red image and if you hold down you can see the clips (one after the other) back
to back and adjust.

6. I learnt how to export; it is in the right file to
save to the computer and post to YouTube.
I explored the use of font which resulted in
the credits in Kartika and the title in Normal
font (on Adobe premiere elements). Due to
the necessity to choose the font I also
learnt how to add text to a clip and edit it
accordingly.

7. I also learnt about how to adjust the
volume on clips and fade in or out; the
soundtrack could be more effective and
more professional. I did this by holding
down the mouse over the yellow line and
adjusting accordingly (up or down for
volume and the white dots up or down to
fade in or out).
I also learnt how to render (by pressing the
‘enter’ bar).

8. I also learnt shortcuts such as using the
keyboard & the clipping tool without
adjusting it in ‘preview’. These techniques
made editing more efficient.
