The document discusses the various media technologies and equipment used during the construction, research, planning, and evaluation of a short film, poster, and double page spread project. Photoshop was used to manipulate images for the poster and spread. Adobe Premier Elements 14 and iMovie were used to edit film footage, with Premier offering more advanced tools. YouTube, Vimeo, and Blogger were platforms to upload and share work. Survey Monkey helped with audience research. A Canon camera, tripod, microphone, and dolly were the main filming equipment.
1. Q4 - HOW DIDYOU USE NEW MEDIATECHNOLOGIES
INTHE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING
AND EVALUATION STAGES?

2. Different types of media applications or
technologies I used:
■ Youtube
■ Imovie
■ Adobe Premier Elements 14
■ Vimeo
■ Photoshop
■ Survey Monkey
■ Blogger
■ Prezzi
■ Powerpoint
■ Recorder
In this project I decided to create a short film, poster and
double page spread all linked to the same product. To plan,
construct and evaluate my products I used different media
technologies that best suited each product and their needs,
this ensured I created the best outcome for all my products.
3. Photoshop (Photo manipulation)
■ This program was the direct program I would use to help manipulate all the images I
needed for the product. This was because of the extensive tools and advanced settings
I could use for the images to ensure I had the best possible image to use for my
products and produce them to a high standard.
■ This program mainly helped me to create my poster and double-page spread which
were both of my ancillary products. I used this program because it allowed me to
produce the product of what I had imagined, it was also very easy to create a draft of
my product and then develop from it.This program was also very easy to use due to its
very professional interface which makes specific tools easier to locate. Also I had
previous experience on this program which allowed me to use previously learnt
techniques on my new products to create a better product.
■ The main tools from Photoshop that I used were magnetic lasso, background eraser,
text tool, magic wand, paint brush. These tools allowed me to manipulate the images I
imported so I could have them exactly as I wanted them to create an image that was
professional which would reflect the rest of the product which was important.
4. Adobe Premier Elements 14 & iMovie
■ These were the two main platforms I used when editing the footage I had recorded. Adobe Premier was the
main editor of the footage I had recorded during the construct of the main film. The reason for this was
because it had a more extensive tool base over iMovie and that it was easier to import the footage onto
Adobe over iMovie as that required an apple product to be able to use the program.
■ There was also more advanced tools that Elements allowed me to use that iMovie couldn't such being able
to adjust the length of the fade in videos when transitioning, this allowed me to perfect my movie down to
each specific details.
■ There was also a wider variety of sounds and effects I could use within elements that iMovie didn’t give me,
this allowed me to use the right sound that best suited the film for example in the program it allowed me to
use a default music sample called ‘Noise Inverse’ which worked perfectly with the end scene to produce a
distorted scene where the film unexpectedly cut.
■ Also another main feature was that Elements allowed to correct footage issues such as balancing volume
between scenes, stabilizing footage, correcting lighting issues which was all sorted out automatically by the
program reducing time and human error.
■ I used iMovie during the evaluation stage as I had recorded the footage I needed on my iPad which meant I
could easily transfer the footage over to the program. Also the editing I required for the footage was very
minimal so I didn’t have the need for extensive editing tools which is why I could use a simple editing
software such as iMovie as it has a very easy to understand interface. The only tools I required was to place
clips in order, cut unnecessary footage and to add in background music.
5. YouTube andVimeo
■ These two programs were used as a platform for me to upload my products on to then
from the platform easily transfer it over on to my blog via HTML coding.
■ YouTube also allowed me to view other competitor products which helped me to
research into typical conventions and how to follow, develop or challenge those
conventions. An example of when this was used was when I had discovered my main
product to observe during the planning stage called ‘Big Society’ which helped me to
understand and analyse mockumentary style conventions.
■ This is also the reason why I used two different platforms as it allowed me to increase
the pool size of products so I had a wider variety of products to analyse.Vimeo was the
perfect second platform as it was incredibly similar toYouTube and was also very easy
to begin using and distributing products.
■ I mainly usedYouTube however as it is the more popular program so when uploading
my final film I would get the feedback or attention it may require from online
audiences.
6. Blogger
■ Blogger has also been one of the main media technologies used in my product as it
was where the final products were placed and also all the documented plans of my
products were placed.
■ It also allowed me to view other blogs so I could gain an idea of the competitor
products of mine and develop on to this.
7. Recorder
■ This was an application I had found on the Apple App store which allowed me to record
my voice on my Apple device then distribute on to a platform for sharing.
■ I used this program during the evaluation stage when recording myself reading out
loud my Q1 transcript this was because it was easily accessible to me, very simple to
use and distribute. The only tools I required of this was the record button and share
button. The simplistic interface allowed me to efficiently use the program and get my
work done quicker.
8. Survey Monkey
■ Survey monkey was used during the research stage to help me analyse what my target
audience expected from my film in terms of genre, conventions, explicitly etc. I did
this because I wanted to create the best possible product which attracted my audience
and made them enjoy the film.
■ The actual program has a sleek interface which made it easier to use, also it was easy
to distribute the survey to audiences either through my social media or the program
also has an option where you can pay for a certain amount of people to answer it.
9. Hardware Equipment
■ The main piece of equipment used for filming was a Cannon 100D camera which recorded
in full 1080p 60fps which allowed for a high quality image to be produced and would
increase viewer satisfaction.
■ I the second main equipment that I used was a tripod which was very important as it
allowed me to maintain a steady shot constantly throughout the scenes which required still
shots, this also helped me maintain the frame of the shot I wanted. It also allowed me to
adjust the height of the shots when I wanted to produce either a high or low angle shot.
Whilst using the tripod it meant it freed my hands so I could focus on zooming in during a
shot.
■ I used a dolly during one of my scenes which was a piece of equipment which allowed me to
move around a tripod on top of a set of wheels. I used this during the scene where the
protagonist walks through a set of double doors so I could create a tracking shot whilst
being able to maintain a steady footage.
■ Lastly the other main piece of equipment I used was a microphone which I could attach to
the camera. This allowed a pristine and higher quality audio as it reduced background noise
and only focused on the sound coming from where it was pointed at. It also allowed me to
adjust how much sound to pick up from a little switch on the side of it.
