Question 4: Who would be the audience for your
               media product?

          ‘Something In The Way’
The demographic film audience
• The demographic film audience our film • We noticed that the main TA was this
is aimed at is both genders (males and but also that lower middle class
people watch horror more than any
females) but females under the age of other class (upper class only 23%
35 and males over the age of 18. The watch horror films and enjoy them
reason we have chosen these target upper middle class only 32% watch
audiences (TA) is because we looked at Horror films and working class only
                                               32% watch Horror films whereas
the UK Film Council website and looked lower middle class (43%) watch
at their audience research. Horror films and enjoy them). This
showed us that the main TA was
lower middle class females under 35
and males over the age of 18. We
also noticed that this meant that the
                                               marketing could be quite widespread
and would be very easy to spread via
word of mouth and social networking
                                               sites.
Reason For Choice
• The reason we chose this target audience is
because when we looked at the UK film
council we saw that the TA was that (1st
paragraph) so we chose to stick with it. We
couldn't really associate with this target
audience because of our age so we did some
questionnaires and found out why they liked
them: look at the post labelled 'target
  audience questionnaire'.
Film Classification
• The reason we targeted males aged • I think that it is good as it will bring
18 and above is because I have added interest because if a film is 18
classified my film as an 18. This is then viewers will automatically think
because I looked at the BBFC scary film and that the film will make
classification and looked at the the audience jump so they may
criteria for films that were classified watch it if they like the fear factor.
as 15, and I found that the The fear factor of films is associated
production had too much content to all horror films because they make
that exceeded the criteria that I had people jump and scared.
to put it as an 18 because of the sex
violence and nudity in the film.
Film Distributor
• Our production would likely be • These would help the film to
released and distributed by achieve popularity and to take
independent small firms such as of in the multiplex cinema's
'dogwoof' and released into such as VUE, I believe. The
  independent cinemas and shown
                                        market that these film festivals
at film festivals because it will
start off small and hopefully end
                                        will attract are niche market
up big. It would go to film audiences because then when
festivals such as Sundance Film they watch it in the film
Festival, Amplitude Film Festival festival it will boom into a
and Bloomsbury Park Film more mass market audience.
  Festival.
Target Audience Questionairre
I interviewed my father for this evaluation question because
he is a typical Horror film fanatic and meets the male
    target audience 18 plus.
• Name: David Callaway
• Age: 44
• Background: Military, Commisioned Officer, Father of four.
• Interesets: Adventure enthusiast, Skiing, Family.
• He said 'I would like to watch your production because it's
a way of escaping from real life into a temporary, fantasy
world where horrific and terrible things happen to normal
people like you and me, with otherworldly sites and
sounds we would not be experiencing in our everday life.
We know that what we are seeing is "not real", that we are
in a "safe zone", yet we can experience the feeling of
knowing what it might be like if these things we see and
hear could actually happen to us...this is our imagination at
work. It's normal human behavior to seek "thrills", and
these things projected on a screen are emotionally
    "thrilling" and yet physically harmless.
