Harrison Astley-Jones used various digital tools and technologies throughout their project researching, producing, and evaluating a surfing documentary. These included YouTube, Blogger, Google, Microsoft software, and cameras to research their topic and genre. Premier Pro and Photoshop were used to edit footage, create a poster, and magazine write up. Blogger was used to document progress and host multimedia like videos and images. Audio recordings and slideshow presentations were also created for the evaluation stage.
2. When researching and planning for my work, I
used computers and my IT skills. I used various
programs for this part of the course like:
Youtube, Blogger, Google, Bing, Slideshare,
Prezi, Sound recorder, Microsoft software,
Google scholar and cameras.
When researching my genre and related
material, I looked for images, imformation of the
subject and other helpful things like video
reviews and film posters.
I also watched surfing on the television to gain
an insight into how surfing is filmed by
professionals.
3. When researching for my production I used both
secondary and primary research. For my
secondary research, I used you tube to explore
different types of documentary. This inspired me
to use different editing styles etc. To research my
target audience I used primary and secondary
research. I asked class mates whether they would
watch a surf documentary and who they believe
would want to watch my production and I also
used sites like youtube where I looked at
comments on the surf documentaries to see what
type of people are watching these videos.
4.
5. Throughtout the course of this project, I have
used Blogger to document my research,
planning and finished pieces. This was a good
tool to use because it was easy and I could
always have access to it. It also allowed me to
keep track of my progress. I could upload
multimedia easily, like videos, links and
pictures.
6. The first thing I did when constructing my project
was to create a story board, I uploaded this on
blogger which marked the start of my production.
I then used various media technologies, some of
which include:
Camera
Phone
Microphone
iMac
Photoshop
Premier Pro
7. I filmed my production with two camera, a
nikon d3100 and a Canon 600d. These cameras
are DLSRs which have filming capacities. This
meant I was able to change lenses when filming
to get the best shots possible. An example of
this is when the tide was going out and I
needed to use a bigger zoom lens to capture the
surfers more clearly. To support the cameras, I
also used a microphone when filming the
interviews. This resulted in better quality
sound, making my production more
professional.
8. To edit the documentary, I used Adobe
Premier Pro. I chose to use this software
because of its capabilities compare to iMovie.
The software is more professional and more
detailed. This meant the learning curve was
greater. I used the aid of teachers and you tube
tutorials to help me use this software. Basic
skills I used in this program are inserting
videos into timelines, changing speed of clips,
adjusting colour levels and creating transitions.
9. I also used the camera stated before to capture
images for my supporting work. I then edited
and created my poster and magazine write up
in Adobe Photoshop CS4. This professional
program meant I was able to make the work
exactly how I wanted it to be and in the best
quality possible. I used this program on an
iMac like when I edited my documentary.
10. For the evaluation stage of my project I used a
range of media technologies. The first was
audio pod casts. I recorded my evaluation and
uploaded it to blogger. This creative form of
media diversified by project. I also used a
application called slide share which allows you
to upload presentation to blogger easily. This
results in a professional looking and easy to
use presentation.
