How new media technologies were used in construction, research, planning and evaluation of a music video
1. How did you use new media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and evaluation
stages?
2. Construction
HD Camera
This is without a doubt the moat important piece of
equipment that we use. It is what actually allows us to
record footage to turn into a video. This year we have
stepped it up a gear and started using HD cameras with
built in microphones. This has made filming a lot easier as
there is no need to use any wires for microphones or other
equipment. The camera we used while filming is very
similar to the one in the picture above. The camera has
some great features on it which make filming that much
easier and professional. It adapts to light extremely well, so
that you can film in all conditions and environments.
3. Construction
Final Cut Express
This is another very important piece of equipment that
was the main part, if not the only part, of post
production on our music video. Final cut is the best
way to edit videos as it features such a wide range of
tools and effects that can be used to add a professional
look to any video. The process of uploading the footage
to final cut is really simple and its even easier to then
upload the completed video to Youtube or other
websites.
4. Construction
Photoshop
Photoshop allowed us to design and fine tune the
advertising side of our music video. What I mean by
that is we could create our advert and digipak with a
wide range of tools and able to adapt it to whatever we
wish it to look like. Uploading images to Photoshop is
an extremely simple procedure and once you have an
understanding of the tools and effects, you can do
anything.
5. Construction
Green Screen
This piece of equipment was used to film a big section of
our music video. They are very useful pieces of
technology as you can fool the audience into thinking
you are in a certain location, doing a certain activity
when in fact you are really in a studio. Any background
can be placed onto the green screen which is very easy
to do with any editing software considering how
advanced this piece of equipment is.
6. Research
Internet
The internet was the main way of researching songs and
artists that we could potentially use for our music video.
Unsigned.com is a great website which features many
artists who have not been signed to a record label and their
songs. The good thing with using the song of someone who
isn't signed is that it is easier to get permission from them
to create a video for it. From here, we then searched
youtube for the chosen song, artist and lyrics so that we
could construct a music video and a representation of the
artist based on that.
7. Planning
Microsoft Word
This was used for all planning that we needed to do for
our music video. This was because all planning was
paper based and had to be typed up. Microsoft word is
the easiest program to use for this but still provides
professional results. The planning sheets featured
numerous tables and charts which can easily be edited
with the program.
8. Evaluation
Once our music video was complete, it was time to
distribute it for everyone to see. The best possible way
to do this was via youtube as this is free and can be
accessed by billions of people in hundreds of countries
worldwide. However, to get people to view our video
once it was on youtube is a little bit harder so we used
twitter to advertise it to our followers to get the ball
rolling with the views. This is another good way of
advertising as it too spreads to millions of people all
over the world.
