During the project's research, planning, construction, and evaluation stages, the group used various media technologies. In research, they used browsers like Safari and Google to research artists. During construction, they used editing software like Photoshop, Final Cut, and Wix to create their music video, digipack, and website. For evaluation, they administered a SurveyMonkey survey and used Prezi to present findings. Throughout the process, technologies like YouTube, blogs, phones, and cameras helped with sharing work and gathering feedback.

2. Media Technologies
• Safari – Google
• Blogger
• Wix
• Survey Monkey
• Photoshop
• Final Cut
• You Tube
• Social Networking;
Twitter, Facebook, Sound cloud.
• Prezi
• Sony HDV Camera and tapes.
• Mobile Phones
• Green Screen
During all three of the different stages, research and planning, construction and evolution
we used many different media technologies. Research and planning consisted of internet
browsers and different online softwares that allowed us to gather information and start the
project up. The construction was a more complex stage and we had to use different editing
programs for the video and dig pack the website also required a online software. Lastly the
evolution staged, we had so many different options from the technologies available so we
had a choice. The media technologies we used are listed below:
3. Safari - Google
Safari is a internet browser, allowing you to search the web. Google is a
well known search engine situated online.
During the research and planning both of these were extremely useful
in order to help us look into unsigned artists and research into the
industry.
During the construction stage we used safari in order to access the
different sites we needed, this also linked us to our blogs.
The evaluation stage is also similar to the construction, no new
research was needed however we used the internet to gain access to
different sites in order to create the outcomes to the evaluation
questions.
4. Blogger
Blogger is a online website that allows people to create
there own blogs, it allows you to upload videos, photos
and text.
We used blogger through out the project, posting all of
our work to the site in order for it to be documented and
viewed by others. Using blogger as a way of documenting
our work allowed us to show the progress and
development of how we built up to the final outcome.
Blogger also has different features such as ‘labels’ this
allowed us to document who done which piece of work
as we was working in small groups.
5. Wix
Wix is a online software that allows you to create your own website, it
provides you with various different templates to choose from. The
software allows you to add your own images, videos, background
design and text.
The site, Wix, was not used at all in the early stages of the
project, during research and planning we did not need the software.
The evaluation stage is the same, we did not need Wix during this
period.
Construction was where the site was needed, we used Wix in order to
create our individual draft websites, we all found the software very
easy and straight forward to use, it was not too simple, it made our
websites look professional, so from this we then went on and used
this software to create our final website.
6. Survey Monkey
Survey Monkey is a online software that allows you to create
your own questionnaire, once people fill out the survey you
can check the results and the software allows you to see the
graphs and stats from the results.
This technologies was not used at all in the research and
planning or the construction.
We used this software during the evaluation stage, we
conducted a questionnaire about the final outcome, our
video, website and digi-pack. From this we had all of the
feedback we needed in order to make changes to the project
if needed and complete the evolution stage of the project.
7. Photoshop
Photoshop is a software that allows you to manipulate and edit images
and photographs. It has many different features and techniques such
as cropping, rotating and flipping images, it also develops and also
allows you to place filters and colour correct photos. Photoshop also
allows you to create layers and cut and alter images.
As Photoshop is such an advanced piece of editing software we
decided to use it during the construction stage of the project. We used
Photoshop in order to create our digi-pack, editing and manipulating
the photos we had taken In order to make the suitable. We also used
the software to edit the images we needed for the website.
We did not use Photoshop during the evaluation stage or the research
and planning stage.
8. Final Cut
Final cut is a editing software, it allows you to manipulate and play around with
different video clips. The software has many different features, it allows you to edit,
cut, transition and multi-clip different clips of footage. The software also allows you to
edit the sound, you can add in different soundtracks or Foley sounds. Final cut also has
many different effects that you can add over the top of any clip.
We did not use Final cut during the research and planning stage of the project as it
was not needed.
During the construction Final cut was essential as it allowed us to edit all the the
footage we had into a music video. Final cut was a perfect software in that it is
complex enough to make the video look professional however it is simple enough to
use and navigate to all the features.
We also used final cut during the evaluation, for question 3 we decided to make a
video, using a green screen. In order to edit the video together and add our own
image to the background we had to use this software.
9. You Tube
You Tube is a Social Network that allows the public to share and watch videos online.
We used You Tube during the research and planning stage in order to research existing
artists. We needed to gather information about the conventions of music videos, You
Tube was the perfect place to do this. We also then had to use You Tube to listen and
research our artist and similar ones once we had found our genre/artist.
During the construction stage You Tube was a great was to share our work to the
world, it allowed us to gather feedback and also having it online was a great way to
ensure it was not lost or damaged, having it on the site also allowed us to gain easy
access to it from the blog.
During the evaluation stage we used You Tube in order to view our our work and
capture screen shots, we also used the feedback that had been left in the comments.
10. Social Networking
Facebook and Twitter are both social networking sites online, that allow people to
uploaded photos, videos and text. They are used as online sites in order to share and
promote things, they are also known as sites in which people portray themselves as they
wish others to see them.
During the research and planning stage we used these sites in order to gather
information about our chosen artist. We used the sites in order to see who the target
audience was we done this by looking at Simon’s Followers and fiends on these sites.
During the construction stage we used the sites in order communicate with each other
and our actors in order to organise the dates for our shoot. The sites also allowed us to
share our work once it was finished, we was able to directly share it with Simon (the
artist) who gave us his opinion, after sharing it this helped us gather feedback and then
we would make any changes to our work if needed.
During the evaluation stage, we didn’t need to use the sites however we looked at them
in order to gather our feedback.
Facebook & Twitter
11. Sound Cloud
Sound cloud is an online music sharing site.
This site was mainly used during the research and
planning stage, our artist mainly used this site in
order to share all of his work. This is the site we
used in order to choose the track we was going to
be creating a video for.
We didn’t use sound cloud during the construction
or evaluation stage of the project.
12. Prezi
Prezi is a online software, it is a way of presenting your work
in a interesting and eye-catching way.
We didn’t need to use this through out the project, it was not
needed in the research and planning stage or the construction
stage.
During the evaluation stage we used this is order to present
our findings in the feedback we received. It was a easy way to
put all of the information and charts together. Prezi allows you
to embed videos and images so it allowed us to have all of the
final project in one presentation.
13. Sony HDV Camera &
Tapes
We did not need to use the camera during the research and planning stage.
During the construction stage this is the camera that we used in order to film
our music video. We used these cameras as it gave us a professional look as
they are HD quality cameras, it allowed the video to be watched in up to
1080p HD. Without the high quality camera it would not of been possible to
get such clear vivid shots.
We also decided to use the camera again during the evaluation stage, having
such advanced equipment we decided it would be a shame to waste it. We
thought it would be more creative in order to film ourselves presenting one of
the questions.
14. Mobile Phones
Having mobile phones available to use was a huge help through out the project.
Having them allowed us to stay in contact as a group, we kept each other updated on
the work that needed to be completed, we could arrange meeting places and times
and arrange the shoot.
Our phones also acting as notebooks, as we took down any notes that where relevant
or necessary during the project.
During the construction stage we took the evidence photographs on our
phones, allowing us to document who done the filming ect.
Our mobile phones also allowed us to access the blog if we was out and about, on the
shoot we was easily able to view any of the work we needed.
Having the internet on our phones also meant we could share the work online through
our own social networking sites, it also allowed us to share the final product with
friends and family.
15. Green Screen
Using a green screen allows you to manipulate the
background of a video clip.
We didn’t use this during the construction stage as
we didn’t need it in out music video however we
decided to use in during our evaluation, we wanted
a presentation of us performing the answer to the
question, to make it more interesting we used a
green screen to show off our work as we spoke
about it.
