June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. What media institutions may distribute
your product and why?
"Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation (or Lionsgate) is a Canadian-American
entertainment company. The company was formed in Vancouver, British Columbia, on
July 3, 1997, and is headquartered in Santa Monica, California. As of November 2013,
it is the most commercially successful mini major film and television distribution
company in North America and the seventh most profitable movie studio.“
- Lionsgate Wikipedia Page
"The Company releases a diverse portfolio of approximately 15 feature films a year, including
a mix of acquisitions and in-house productions. In addition to blockbuster young adult
franchises The Hunger Games and Twilight and emerging young adult brands like Divergent,
the Company’s feature film slate includes star-driven action films such as Now You See Me,
which has grossed nearly $300 million at the worldwide box office, genre hits such as Cabin
in the Woods, The Possession, Sinister and Texas Chainsaw 3D and the popular Tyler Perry
Madea dramas. Lionsgate distributes six to eight additional specialty films a year through
sister company Roadside Attractions. Lionsgate maintains one of the lowest overhead to
revenue percentage in the media industry and is committed to continue to find ways to
reduce costs."
- Lionsgate Website
3. Ideologies and why we are similar
"Lionsgate’s emergence as a global content leader is the result of its 13-year strategy using a
combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions to assemble the building blocks for long-term
success."
- Lionsgate Website
"Despite its recent evolution, Lionsgate remains committed to the low overhead, cost discipline,
entrepreneurial business models and niche focus that have been signatures of its growth over the years."
- Lionsgate Website
We both want to create films of the same genre, to send a powerful message whilst still having a
large enough budget to indulge in increasing the quality of the film to widen audiences. Lionsgate
tries to balance their priorities between profit and artistry, without cheapening the message they
want to get across.
4. What are their motives and profit like?
"Even as Lionsgate continues to grow, keeping costs down and reducing debt are two of the Company’s
highest priorities. The Company recently refinanced its high yield notes and paid down its $500 million
Summit term loan more than two years early, reducing its cash interest expense from $75 million in
fiscal 2013 to an anticipated $37.5 million in fiscal 2015."
- Lionsgate Website
"The Company continued to build the 15,000-title filmed entertainment library that serves as one of the
foundations of its growth. The library achieved its eighth straight year of revenue growth in the fiscal
year ended March 31, 2013, with revenues approaching half a billion dollars on growing margins.“
- Lionsgate Website
This shows that my film is almost guaranteed to be a success with this companies backing because
they know the genre I am working in very well and they know how to market it successfully.
5. What is its business model like?
"Lionsgate Entertainment clearly demonstrates conglomeratization through its ownership of both Film
and Television production, as well as sales and distribution markets. Lionsgate Entertainment has
interests in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, as well as Asia, demonstrating
Globalization. Lionsgate Entertainment demonstrates Vertical integration through ownership of
distribution companies (i.e. Redbus Film Distribution Ltd and Trimark Holdings) in addition to production
companies (i.e. LionsGate Film, Mandate Pictures, and Artisan Entertainment). Lionsgate demonstrates
Horizontal integration through its mergers with other companies such as Summit Entertainment,
Mandate Pictures, Artisan Entertainment and etc. One way Lionsgate demonstrates Media Synergy is
through sales of both films and soundtracks. Hunger Games, for example, was number one in sales of
movie tickets, books, and soundtracks during April of 2012."

6. How would I advertise and distribute
with Lionsgate?
I would advertise my film by producing trailers, posters, and through social media as it is a cheap but very effective
method. I will use a platform release to distribute my film and allow social media to spread the word of my film, as
this involves less risk to profit. Furthermore, having an interactive website, Facebook page, and twitter account will
allow me to get close to my audience and will give me the opportunity to ask questions, and release special offers
and competitions to help spread the word of my film and raise its profile, and all relatively low of cost. Additionally,
I will place it among other films targeted at young adults such as The Hunger Games and Divergent. The audience
will be able to know what genre my film is when they are placed next to these films. I can also advertise at film
festivals and through film reviewing websites, as these places usually harbour opportunities to target niche
audiences that can advertise my product for free, for example a film reviewer with a blog may see my film and
promote it on their site.
