Our independent production company created a teen thriller film with a low budget that lacked expensive equipment and CGI. We chose to work with independent distributor Black Robin to release the film because they were best suited for our niche teen audience and smaller budget. Black Robin specializes in independent films and used lower-cost marketing like social media rather than expensive posters, billboards or bus ads. This allowed us more creative freedom during production and editing while still reaching our targeted demographic.

Our production company is independent therefore
there was a low budget for our film and less
technology to be used, for example we were
unable to use CGI and expensive equipment (such
as camera’s like the ARRI ALEXA) that may have
been used in blockbuster films with a greater
budget.
Taking inspiration from the first letter of each of our names, we created this production
company.

3. We chose to use a small independent production company
because we thought this would be best suited to our film
because it is for a smaller niche audience of teens. Our film did
not require very much technology or CGI and there were no big
named stars so the audience would be watching our film based
on the quality.

4. From using an independent production company we were able to have
more creative freedom and give our inexperienced cast and crew a
chance to work in the film industry and gain experience.We thought
that our independent production company meant we were able to
experiment when filming and editing.

screen, but during editing
we decided that we
thought this would have
a nice effect and carry
across to our audience

5. Our distribution company is ‘Black Robin’ and is also independent.This
means that our film had less marketing, therefore less posters and no
billboards. Social networking was able to be created as this is free but there
were no bus advertisements.

6. We chose to use black to distribute our film because of the genre of
our teen film being a thriller and how we have a smaller target
audience of teen girls who enjoy thrills as these are the people that
would relate more to the film.
