Evaluation Question 2
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary
texts?
The Final Three Products…
The Digipak
The Magazine Advert
Promotional/Music Video
• I think that we were successful in producing three different media
products which were effective in promoting the release of the song
‘Hold on me’, created by our chosen artist ‘Cadence Kid’.
• The success of the products was primarily due to the research done,
audience feedback gathered as well as the technical skills of the
group in filming and using various editing software.
• By paying close attention to the research and feedback, we were able
to identify that was important that our products were clear, attractive
and synergistically linked to each other to provide continuity across
the different types of texts; digital – the music video and analogue –
the print products.
Synergistic Links
My main and ancillary texts are synergistically linked through the use of
the following;
• Editing: The typeface - The same style of font for the song title is used
across all the media texts. The same style allows audiences to easily
recognise the product and link it to the other ancillary texts.
Music Video

• Mise-en-scene – The actor, playing the artist in the music video is also
used on the front of the digipak as well as the the magazine advert.
Synergistic Links

Synergistic Links
• Mise-en-scene - It was very important that the
costume was the same to create a realism and
consistency across the texts. If the costume was
different in each of the different products, there
would be no link between the texts and it would
not appear to be part of the same product,
ultimately making it confusing to an audience.
• Mise-en-scene - The location of a park in London is used as the
setting for the digipak as well as the magazine advert and is used
briefly as a scene in the music video. The music video used many
different locations in London, so it was important to use the same
location for the products to reinforce a link between them.

Examples of Real Media Texts
Magazine Adverts Digipaks
Links in Real Products
• Synergistic links are used in real media texts to make them successful
in promoting songs and albums. An example of this would be the
album ‘25’ by Adele.
The album cover, advert and music
video are linked by the use of the
close up of the artist’s face.
The same typeface is
used across both print
products.
Links in Real Products
• Another example would be ’Dangerous Woman’ by Ariana Grande.
The costume used by the artist is the synergistic link between the
music video and the print products.
• Overall, the use of the synergy between our different products proved
successful in creating authentic and realistic media products as similar
to actual media texts, which creates an audience by promoting a
song, album or artist.
