Evaluation Question 5 :
Research and Planning
Primary Audience
Research
 In order to get information about thriller texts and how
the audience should react to them, I asked 5 people to
watch a thriller sequence and answer questions about it
 10 questions were asked, some which were about the
sequence and some which were about how the audience
sees thrillers and what they expect from a thriller
 Through this research, I found a reoccurring idea of
genre conventions that needed to be added into my own
piece
 This research was extremely helpful in pushing me in the
right direction when creating my sequence
Secondary Audience
Research
 Secondary audience research consisted of me
looking on the Pearl & Dean website and looking at
the comparable profiles for many other thriller films
 From this I was able to see the types of people that
were watching thrillers in the cinema
 This included the majority age group, social class
and gender of people watching the film
 From this research I was able to see what my target
audience was and therefore I could plan ways of
how to make it suitable for them
Other Research
 I also did mise-en-scene, title and genre research
 These allowed me to investigate what is expected
from a thriller sequence
 Through this I found what types of props,
cinematography, lighting, characters, locations, etc.
to use
Planning
 My planning consisted of creating a storyboard of a
rough idea
 I used my research to help create my ideas
 My planning also consisted of finding actors and
appropriate locations, etc.
