This paper evaluates the scalability and bandwidth efficiency of multipoint to multipoint (mp2mp) traffic engineering in MPLS networks, specifically focusing on fast reroute (FRR) procedures. It presents an extended simulation study that examines various scenarios, comparing the trade-offs between mp2mp bypass tunnels and existing point-to-point and point-to-multipoint approaches. The findings indicate significant improvements in scalability when using mp2mp hierarchies for protecting multiple traffic streams in real-time applications.
