DPS ARTICLE unique image of band text in original format page references on images editor’s letter original page number design continued colour scheme bold text with different colours for page numbers It was important to include all of these conventions on all pages of my magazine so that the final product was the best that it could be. Conventions of a magazine are like bricks of house so therefore are important to include. They catch the eye of the reader and keep them reading and most of all keep the reader interested. Part of the audience’s expectation is to see a magazine conform to convention and perhaps subvert the conventions where appropriate to add interest and originality. conventions
Pulse targets its’ magazines at a younger audience. In figures, audiences that enjoy Pulse magazines most are between the ages of 14 and 25. However, there is a minority of other aged readers who enjoy the magazine content. In order to attract the target audience, I had to create my magazine to fit their tastes and expectations. I made the magazine look modern by using bold colour schemes that will catch the eye of the reader. I used images that would interest the audience and therefore draw them into reading the rest of the magazine. The style of text used looks modern and original to give Pulse magazine a feel of individuality. target audience To know what the target audience expects from a magazine, I constructed a questionnaire to ask members of the public what they wanted from a music general. By doing this I found out what parts of a magazine readers find most interesting and what parts are not appropriate. Such examples would be the amount o text and images. From the questionnaire, I learnt that the audience want a equal amount of text and images so to keep the reader I interested I did so. Also, I asked consumers what designs and what content they like most so that when it came to constructing my magazine, I had the audience’s expectations in mind.
have established a good brand name in the music industry and will be a useful tool in the distribution of Pulse magazine. Currently, they work with successful magazines such as Q. currently work with NME and have also built a successful reputation for themselves. They will help build the popularity of Pulse Magazine. distributors has become one of the country’s leading distribution companies and will help Pulse magazine reach the same level of success.
I have used several components to construct my magazine. One such component is Microsoft Publisher. Magazine designers use a range of programs to construct their magazine and using this desktop publisher gives us an insight into how a magazine is created. However, it was not just the constructing of the magazine that was needed. We also took pictures for our magazine giving experience of magazine photography. Using these components taught me the in depth technologies needed to fully bring a magazine together. technologies
When creating my preliminary magazine, I did not think that I could construct a better piece of design but I feel I have achieved just that in creating my final magazine. I think I have mastered all conventions of all pages and have created a final product that I am proud of. Through the constructing of this magazine I have learnt more about the programs used such as layering a page to have different areas in front of others. This skill was most useful as it gave my front cover especially a look of professionalism. From simple colour schemes to complex graphic design, I think I have created a magazine that reflects my hard work. I think I have progressed well since the preliminary work as my work well shows. I have used far more imaginative designs and brought in media conventions to the magazine to make it shelf-worthy. However, I think that planning is an important tool in creating a magazine and I failed to stick to my plans. Perhaps next time I will continue to follow a plan so that my magazine has a distinct structure to it. progression
