Pre-Production
Existing Products
To prepare for the creation of our digipak I went online to
research the album covers of any similar products in order to find
out what the conventions were within the genre. I found artists of
the indie and rock genres through Spotify - where we searched the
genres and noted down female artists listed below, and by looking
at acts associated with those artists.
After this I looked up the artists album covers in order to
study them and find similarities throughout the genre
which we could then apply to our cover in some
way. For example I looked at a The Pretty Reckless
album cover and also a Debbie Harry one among
others. After examining them we found many
similarities such as the use of the artists image on
the cover, and the dark colour schemes. The writing
placement and colour was also something we
noticed - the colour was always a contrast to the
background colour and the writing was used as a
secondary to the artists image. We used all this information later
on when creating the album artwork as we get adhering to
conventions worked best with the genre of music we chose.

Production
DSLR Cannon (Lighting)
We used a DSLR camera for our
production work on our digipak. In
order to create the image we intended
for our album cover we decided we
needed to set up a photoshoot with out
artist. We discussed with her when we
would be free, and arranged to have
time in a studio in order to have a plain
background. We used a bar light, and a
close up beauty light in order to
highlight our artists face and see the artist clearly in the
photographs. The camera we used was
good quality in order to get the best
photos, and we used a portrait mode so
the camera could take the best quality
photograph in correspondence with
what we were taking. During the
photoshoot we also used many props -
such as stools and a piano. The different
outfits used were also useful in taking a
variety of shots.

Photoshop and Canva.com
To create our album cover, first we used photoshop to add a
photo of our artist to a polaroid background - to do this I created
multiple layers which I then edited in order to merge both the
photographs together neatly. I used the brush tool with black or
white colours in the mask section in order to remove and add parts
to the pictures where necessary.
After this we used Canva.com - a website created to help
people make their own logos, and album covers among other
things. We created 4 separate pages and added the edited
photographs of our artist to them, importing photos and fonts. We
then used the fonts on the website to write the song titles and the
inside cover.
