Evaluation Question 4
1. Evaluation question 4 How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
2. Research INTERNET WEBSITES When researching for our trailer we used Wikipedia to find out information about serial killers and their motives. We also used various websites like www.allserialkillers.com and www.crimemagazine.com/serial for information on serial killers. We found that understanding their behaviours, we were able to incorporate it in our trailer. We looked at organised serial killers in depth to pick out generic conventions for the horror genre.
3. INTERNET WEBSITES We also looked at different magazine covers on the internet to see the conventions and colour schemes. We found the main colour scheme was black, red and white. Our magazine fits with the 3 colour scheme and the big bold texts. Looking at the different saw posters on the internet we tried to create a similar theme. Simple and plain with a disfigured body part to fit with the generic conventions.
4. PHOTOSHOP AND MYFONTS.COM For the ancillary tasks we used Photoshop to create and edit our poster and magazine cover. This helped us to create the magazine . On Photoshop the text wasn’t what we wanted for the magazine and the theme. So we looked on a website called myfonts.com and found a suitable font for our magazine title. Photoshop helped us to edit and change the saturation of the photos so we were carrying on the generic conventions of the horror genre . On the poster we made the colours duller so it kept with the dark dreary theme.
5. We used Macs to edit and create our trailer. On the Macs we used a program called Imovie. On this program we were able to changed the speed and saturation of the clips , trying still to keep with the generic conventions of a horror trailer.
6. SOUNDCLOUD, ZAMZAR,ITUNES AND GARAGE BAND For the sound track of the trailer we needed to find some copyright free music. So we looked on the website www.soundcloud.com and found copyright free music that we could use. We found two different music parts and merged them together in the trailer. However we had problems downloading the music from sound cloud, so we had to record them on the computers using audacity. After recording them we had further problems for burning them onto a CD. So we found a website called zamzar.com that changes files into different formats. So on the website we changed the audacity file into an mp3 so we could burn it on to CD and put it on the Macs. When we had finally changed the music into a different format we uploaded the music onto garage band so we could edit and change the pitch/tempo of the music. After editing the music we put it on iTunes so we could use it in our trailer.
