Question answering (QA) system aims at retrieving precise information from a large collection of
documents against a query. This paper describes the architecture of a Natural Language Question
Answering (NLQA) system for a specifi
c domain based on the ontological information, a step towards
semantic web question answering. The proposed architecture defines four basic modules suitable for
enhancing current QA capabilities with the ability of processing complex questions. The first m
odule was
the question processing, which analyses and classifies the question and also reformulates the user query.
The second module allows the process of retrieving the relevant documents. The next module processes the
retrieved documents, and the last m
odule performs the extraction and generation of a response. Natural
language processing techniques are used for processing the question and documents and also for answer
extraction. Ontology and domain knowledge are used for reformulating queries and ident
ifying the
relations. The aim of the system is to generate short and specific answer to the question that is asked in the
natural language in a specific domain. We have achieved 94 % accuracy of natural language question
answering in our implementation
Ontology Based Approach for Semantic Information Retrieval System
Abstract—The Information retrieval system is taking an important role in current search engine which performs searching operation based on keywords which results in an enormous amount of data available to the user, from which user cannot figure out the essential and most important information. This limitation may be overcome by a new web architecture known as the semantic web which overcome the limitation of the keyword based search technique called the conceptual or the semantic search technique. Natural language processing technique is mostly implemented in a QA system for asking user’s questions and several steps are also followed for conversion of questions to the query form for retrieving an exact answer. In conceptual search, search engine interprets the meaning of the user’s query and the relation among the concepts that document contains with respect to a particular domain that produces specific answers instead of showing lists of answers. In this paper, we proposed the ontology based semantic information retrieval system and the Jena semantic web framework in which, the user enters an input query which is parsed by Standford Parser then the triplet extraction algorithm is used. For all input queries, the SPARQL query is formed and further, it is fired on the knowledge base (Ontology) which finds appropriate RDF triples in knowledge base and retrieve the relevant information using the Jena framework.

and also new problems in information retrieval. Gathering the information in different natural
language is the most difficult task, which often requires huge resources. Cross-language
information retrieval (CLIR) is the retrieval of information for a query written in the native
language. This paper deals with various classification techniques that can be used for solving
the problems encountered in CLIR.
Answer extraction and passage retrieval for
—Question Answering systems (QASs) do the task of
retrieving text portions from a collection of documents that
contain the answer to the user’s questions. These QASs use a
variety of linguistic tools that be able to deal with small
fragments of text. Therefore, to retrieve the documents which
contains the answer from a large document collections, QASs
employ Information Retrieval (IR) techniques to minimize the
number of documents collections to a treatable amount of
relevant text. In this paper, we propose a model for passage
retrieval model that do this task with a better performance for
the purpose of Arabic QASs. We first segment each the top five
ranked documents returned by the IR module into passages.
Then, we compute the similarity score between the user’s
question terms and each passage. The top five passages (with
high similarity score) are retrieved are retrieved. Finally,
Answer Extraction techniques are applied to extract the final
answer. Our method achieved an average for precision of
87.25%, Recall of 86.2% and F1-measure of 87%.

Automatically finding domain specific key terms from a given set of research paper is a challenging task and research papers to a particular area of research is a concern for many people including students, professors and researchers. A domain classification of papers facilitates that search process. That is, having a list of domains in a research field, we try to find out to which domain(s) a given paper is more related. Besides, processing the whole paper to read take a long time. In this paper, using domain knowledge requires much human effort, e.g., manually composing a set of labeling a large corpus. In particular, we use the abstract and keyword in research paper as the seeing terms to identify similar terms from a domain corpus which are then filtered by checking their appearance in the research papers. Experiments show the TF –IDF measure and the classification step make this method more precisely to domains. The results show that our approach can extract the terms effectively, while being domain independent.

Translating Ontologies in Real-World Settings
To enable knowledge access across languages, ontologies that are often represented only in English, need to be translated into different languages. The main challenge in translating ontologies is to find the right term with respect to the domain modeled by ontology itself. Machine translation services may help in this task; however, a crucial requirement is to have translations validated by experts before the ontologies are deployed. Real-world applications must implement a support system addressing this task for relieve experts work in validating all translations. In this paper, we present ESSOT, an Expert Supporting System for Ontology Translation. The peculiarity of this system is to exploit semantic information of the concept's context for improving the quality of label translations. The system has been tested both within the Organic.Lingua project by translating the modeled ontology in three languages and on other multilingual ontologies in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the system in other contexts. The results have been compared with the translations provided by the Microsoft Translator API and the improvements demonstrated the viability of the proposed approach.
Extracting keywords from texts - Sanda Martincic Ipsic
The task of keyword extraction is to automatically identify a set of terms that best describe the document. Automatic keyword extraction establishes a foundation for various natural language processing applications: information retrieval, the automatic indexing and classification of documents, automatic summarization and high-level semantic description, etc. Although the keyword extraction applications usually work on single documents (document-oriented task), keyword extraction is also applicable to a more demanding task, i.e. the keyword extraction from a whole collection of documents or from an entire web site, or from tweets from Twitter. In the era of big-data, obtaining an effective and efficient method for automatic keyword extraction from huge amounts of multi-topic textual sources is of high importance.
We proposed a novel Selectivity-Based Keyword Extraction (SBKE) method, which extracts keywords from the source text represented as a network. The node selectivity value is calculated from a weighted network as the average weight distributed on the links of a single node and is used in the procedure of keyword candidate ranking and extraction. The selectivity slightly outperforms an extraction based on the standard centrality measures. Therefore, the selectivity and its modification – generalized selectivity as the node centrality measures are included in the SBKE method. Selectivity-based extraction does not require linguistic knowledge as it is derived purely from statistical and structural information of the network and it can be easily ported to new languages and used in a multilingual scenario. The true potential of the proposed SBKE method is in its generality, portability and low computation costs, which positions it as a strong candidate for preparing collections which lack human annotations for keyword extraction. Testing of the portability of the SBKE was tested on Croatian, Serbian and English texts – more precisely it was developed on Croatian News and ported for extraction from parallel abstracts of scientific publication in the Serbian and English languages.
The constructed parallel corpus of scientific abstracts with annotated keywords allows a better comparison of the performance of the method across languages since we have the controlled experimental environment and data. The achieved keyword extraction results measured with an F1 score are 49.57% for English and 46.73% for the Serbian language, if we disregard keywords that are not present in the abstracts. In case that we evaluate against the whole keyword set, the F1 scores are 40.08% and 45.71% respectively. This work shows that SBKE can be easily ported to new a language, domain and type of text in the sense of its structure. Still, there are drawbacks – the method can extract only the words that appear in the text.

Aggregation for searching complex information spaces
The diversity and complexity of contents available on the web have dramatically increased in recent years. Multimedia content such as images, videos, maps, voice recordings has been published more often than before. Document genres have also been diversified, for instance, news, blogs, FAQs, wiki. These diversified information sources are often dealt with in a separated way. For example, in web search, users have to switch between search verticals to access different sources. Recently, there has been a growing interest in finding effective ways to aggregate these information sources so that to hide the complexity of the information spaces to users searching for relevant information. For example, so-called aggregated search investigated by the major search engine companies will provide search results from several sources in a single result page. Aggregation itself is not a new paradigm; for instance, aggregate operators are common in database technology.
This talk presents the challenges faced by the like of web search engines and digital libraries in providing the means to aggregate information from several and complex information spaces in a way that helps users in their information seeking tasks. It also discusses how other disciplines including databases, artificial intelligence, and cognitive science can be brought into building effective and efficient aggregated search systems.
INTELLIGENT QUERY PROCESSING IN MALAYALAM
The paper presents a model for developing intelligent query processing in Malayalam. For this the
investigator has selected a domain as time enquiry system in Malayalam language. This work discusses
issues involved in Natural Language Processing. NLQPS is a restricted domain system, deals with the
natural Language Queries on time enquiry for different modes of transportation. The system performs a
shallow syntactic and semantic analysis of the input query. After the knowledge level understanding of the
query, the system triggers a reasoning process to determine the type of query and the result slots that are
required. The investigator tries to extract the hidden intelligent behind a Natural Language Query
submitted by a user.

General search engines often provide low precise results even for detailed queries. So there is a vital need
to elicit useful information like keywords for search engines to provide acceptable results for user’s search
queries. Although many methods have been proposed to show how to extract keywords automatically, all
attempt to get a better recall, precision and other criteria which describe how the method has done its job
as an author. This paper presents a new automatic keyword extraction method which improves accessibility
of web content by search engines. The proposed method defines some coefficients determining features
efficiency and tries to optimize them by using a genetic algorithm. Furthermore, it evaluates candidate
keywords by a function that utilizes the result of search engines. When comparing to the other methods,
experiments demonstrate that by using the proposed method, a higher score is achieved from search
engines without losing noticeable recall or precision.
MULTILINGUAL INFORMATION RETRIEVAL BASED ON KNOWLEDGE CREATION TECHNIQUES
As the information access across languages increases, the importance of a system that supports querybased
searching with the presence of multilingual also grows. Gathering the information in different
natural language is the most difficult task, which requires huge resources like database and digital
libraries. Cross language information retrieval (CLIR) enables to search in multilingual document
collections using the native language which can be supported by the different data mining techniques. This
paper deals with various data mining techniques that can be used for solving the problems encountered in

Diacritic Oriented Arabic Information Retrieval System
Arabic language support in search engines and operating systems is improved in recent years. Searching in the Internet is reliable and can be compared to the excellent support for several other languages, including English. However, for text with diacritics there are some limitations. For this reason, most Information retrieval (IR) systems remove diacritics from text and ignore it for its complexity. Searching text with diacritics is important for some kinds of documents, such as those of religious books, some newspapers and children stories. This research shows the design and development of the system that overcome the problem. The proposed system considers diacritics. The proposed system includes the design complexity in the retrieving algorithm rather than the information repository, which is database in this study. Also, this study analyses the results and the performance. Results are promising and performance analysis shows methods to enhance design and increase the performance. The proposed system can be integrated in search engines, text editors and any information retrieval system that include Arabic text. Performance analysis of the proposed system shows that this system is reliable. The proposed system is applied on database of Hadeeth, which is religious book includes the prophet action and statements. The system can be applied in any kind of data repository.

As the information access across languages increases, the importance of a system that supports querybased
searching with the presence of multilingual also grows. Gathering the information in different
natural language is the most difficult task, which requires huge resources like database and digital
libraries. Cross language information retrieval (CLIR) enables to search in multilingual document
collections using the native language which can be supported by the different data mining techniques. This
paper deals with various data mining techniques that can be used for solving the problems encountered in
CLIR.
Diacritic Oriented Arabic Information Retrieval System
Arabic language support in search engines and operating systems is improved in recent years. Searching in the Internet is reliable and can be compared to the excellent support for several other languages, including English. However, for text with diacritics there are some limitations. For this reason, most Information retrieval (IR) systems remove diacritics from text and ignore it for its complexity. Searching text with diacritics is important for some kinds of documents, such as those of religious books, some newspapers and children stories. This research shows the design and development of the system that overcome the problem. The proposed system considers diacritics. The proposed system includes the design complexity in the retrieving algorithm rather than the information repository, which is database in this study. Also, this study analyses the results and the performance. Results are promising and performance analysis shows methods to enhance design and increase the performance. The proposed system can be integrated in search engines, text editors and any information retrieval system that include Arabic text. Performance analysis of the proposed system shows that this system is reliable. The proposed system is applied on database of Hadeeth, which is religious book includes the prophet action and statements. The system can be applied in any kind of data repository.

This presentation, part of an extensive practical tutorial on logical and bit-stream preservation using Plato (a preservation planning tool) and EPrints (software for creating digital repositories), reviews preservation planning workflow, shows how to identify requirements using a mindmap approach and then how to upload the output to Plato to run experiments and produce results. The presentation was given as part of module 4 of a 5-module course on digital preservation tools for repository managers, presented by the JISC KeepIt project. An Application-Oriented Approach for Computer Security Education
In the past few years, numerous universities have incorporated computer security courses into their
undergraduate curricula. Recent studies show that students can effectively gain their knowledge and
experience in building secure computer systems by conducting course projects. However, existing
computer security laboratory exercises are comprised of small-scale, fragmented, and isolated course projects, making it inadequate to prepare undergraduate students to implement real-world secure computing systems. Conventional wisdom in designing computer security course projects pays little
attention to train students to assemble small building blocks into a large-scale secure computing and information system. To overcome students’ lack of experience in implementing large-scale secure software, we propose a novel application-oriented approach to teaching computer security courses by constructing course projects for computer security education. In this pilot project we will develop an extensible application framework for computer security course projects. The framework will provide valuable learning materials that can enable undergraduate students to gain unique experience of building large-scale trustworthy computer systems. Course projects are implemented as plugin modules of an application-based framework. After integrating all the security modules together in the framework, undergraduate students can experiment with various ways of implementing sophisticated
secure computer and information systems.

This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation.
