How Did Shakespeare Influence An Era Of Theatre
As William Shakespeare shaped an era of theatre for the whole world, many other
influential and important people shaped the world in different ways. Firstly, Ivan IV
Vasilyevich, ruler of Russia, shaped European history through his reign from 1547
through 1584. On the other side of Europe, Queen Elizabeth I ruled England and
Ireland shaping relations between Protestantism and Catholicism. Finally, Galileo
Galilei influenced the methods of modern science, especially physics, through his
pioneering observations of the solar system. During William Shakespeares lifetime,
many other prominent people were transforming European politics, Protestant and
catholic relations, and scientific discovery. The great and horrible man, Ivan IV
Vasilyevich, usually called Ivan The Terrible, ruled Russia in the time of
Shakespeare. Crowned as the initial Tsar of Russia,... Show more content on

Born on February 15, 1564, in Pisa, Italy, Galileo Galilei taught mathematics, while
creating numerous interesting inventions like the telescope along with his
observations about nature. He also helped lead and support the idea of a sun
centered solar system, called the Copernican theory. He was the firstborn of six
children born to the well known musician and music theorist, Vincenzo Galilei. In
1583, Galileo entered the University of Pisa to study medicine, although he soon
became fascinated with many subjects, particularly mathematics and physics, which
he would pursue for the rest of his life. Galileo died in Arcetri, Italy, on January 8,
1642, after suffering from a fever and heart problems. Luckily, not long after his
death, the Church could no longer deny the truth in science. Finally, in 1758, it lifted
the ban on supporting the Copernican theory. Clearly, Galileo Galilei was yet another
important person during the life of William

Positioning the Viewer in Frontline to Receive a Particular Version of Telling the
Truth
All composers of texts position the responder of that text to view their version of the
truth in different ways. In the case of Frontline, Rob Stitch and his team position the
viewers using a satirical documentary style approach to mock low brow journalism
and indeed real life current affairs programs. The easily accessible medium of
television encourages the responder to interrogate the events as reality and suggest
they are a dramatic reconstruction of events.
Through the documentary style on television the Frontline team position to viewer to
accept the images presented as reality. Although Frontline... Show more content on

For example, in the episode We ain t got Dames the fact that Mike is presented as
such a fool undermines the credibility of the process of telling the truth. In the
episode, crude noises are put onto Mike s computer, with him unable to fix the
problem or stand up to Marty who did it. Furthermore, this foolishness presented
by the host of the program undermines the media s authority as an institution to tell
the truth. Even Mike s very appearance seems to be ridiculous, for example his hair.
Mikes hair is fashioned by hairspray to look perfect, which looks ridiculous. Craig
Reucassel and Chris Taylor who are presented as anchors on CNNNN are also
caricatures of real hosts. They, like Mike, exaggerate mainly gestures and on screen
reactions to stories to make them, appear to be sincere, yet at the same time exposing
the insincerity of the institution.
Moreover, media institutions can pick stories to determine their infotainment value,
or their usefulness to the people in power. This is most apparent in the Frontline
episode Smaller fish to fry where a big fish is presented to Mike Moore yet he
cannot chase it because of the interests of the station from upstairs. This is a
prominent example of a media institution choosing a news story because of the effect
it would have on the rich and powerful that controls
Classical Music Concert Narrative
In September, I attended the concert Windfire: Flute and Percussion Spectacular at
Rammelkamp Chapel. Paula John Kasica performed on the flute and percussion with
Nancy Shaaf accompanying on the piano. This was my first time attending a live
classical music concert. I didn t know what to expect. My limited experiences with
classical musicwere listening while I studied or using it to fall asleep at night.
Honestly, I worried that I might fall asleep during the concert. As it turns out, I had
no reason to fret. I brought my two nieces (Mackenzie and Naylani) and my
daughter (Talia) along with me to the concert. My girls asked me what to expect and
I had no answers for them. The flutist introduced herself and asked if we played...

Hopelessly, we searched the forest for the man that was no longer there as the
haunting melody played. Suddenly, the percussion began and we envisioned our hero
dashing in to save us. Our bodies swayed to the rhythm as we saw Ariadne and
Dionysius triumphantly dancing. The Suite Antique prelude brought us back from
the forest and enthralled us with the playing of the instruments. Naylani began lifting
her arms as though she were playing the flute herself, mimicking the actions of the
flutist and the movements of her body as she drew breaths to play. I watched as the
pianist s fingers moved eloquently. Soon, my fingers strummed upon my knee in my
own attempts to replicate the piano playing. As the ostinato took over the stage, our
spirits lifted as the music became full of life. Before I knew it, Naylani was
dancing like a woodland fairy and having such a good time. Laughter spread as she
began playing the flute again as she danced. The aria brought back the slow and
soothing music from before and we watched as the artists played. Our gazes were
on the instruments of choice as we dreamed of ourselves playing the pieces we were
hearing. Feelings of peace and relaxation developed our bodies as we simply enjoyed
the music.
Reminiscent of Charlie Brown theme song, we imagined an episode as the waltz
played. Charlie Brown walked along as Lucy held a football in hopes of jerking it

Independent And Non Executive Directors
They are relied upon to be independent from the administration and go about as the
trustees of shareholders. This infers that they are committed to be completely aware
of and question the conduct of organizations on relevant issues. пѓјThe concept of
independent directors can be traced to the developed economies of the West with
the United Kingdom and the U.S.A. sharing credit for its evolution during the
1950s even before legislation mandated the induction of independent directors to
ensure that corporate entities did not make depredations into the public interest
driven by the profit motive alone at the cost of other values. This is what gave rise
to the concept of Good Corporate Governance which again owes its origin to the
developed economies of the Western Hemisphere . In India, the concept of
independent directors was first introduced through voluntary guidelines issued by
the Confederation of Indian Industry ( CII ) . The Report suggested that any listed
company with a turnover of Rs. 100 crores and above should have professionally
competent, independent, non executive directors, who should constitute at least 30
per cent of the board if the chairman of the company is a non executive director or at
least 50 per cent of the board if the chairman and managing director is the same
person. This CII recommendation was later on incorporated in SEBI s Kumar
Mangalam Birla Committee Report. The Kumar Mangalam Birla Committee Report
recommendation led SEBI to include
College Athletes Should Not Be Paid
The word college is defined by Dictionay.com (2014) as an indepdant institution of
higher learning . This definition is focused around education and the higher learning
that individuals receive when they attend a college institution. It is not centered
around, nor does it mention athletics. College athletes should not be paid a salary for
their participation in collegesports, the purpose of college is educationand not
athletics.
A Student s Relationship To School And Athletics
College athletes arguably possess a similar and often equivalent skill set to that of a
professional athlete and may even train just as hard as a professional athlete.
However, a college students relationship to athletics is no different than a high school
student who participates in their schools athletics program. These young athletes
participate in their chosen sport without any expectation of monetary compensation
in return. In fact, many athletes at non professional levels pay hundreds or even
thousands of dollars annually to participate in their chosen extracurricular sporting
activities (Alderman, 2013). This is their choice and they are not financially
compensated for it. These athletes play for the joy of the sport, life lessons and in
some cases, the hopes of one day becoming a professional athlete.
According to the research of Devin G Pope and Jaren C Pope (2009) some would
suggest that; because schools receive a variety of indirect benefits generated by
athletic programs, such as
Religion And Its Impact On Society
Even before there were millions of copies of bibles in circulation religion has been
a part of society that has always been there. But is this idea of rules and regulations
enforced by a belief system really helpful to society? In a world without religion
would there be less wars, hatred, and discrimination? With so many people involved
or affiliated with religionit is important to explore deeper into the negative impact
that religion has on society and try to make the world a better place with
information that will help all. At a personal level religion fulfills the role of
accounting for a lack of knowledge and offering hope in the face of difficulties
while also offering a sense of belonging. To identify with a religiousideology, and call
it the only truth and way, leads to the tremendously negative consequences of hatred,
racism, and all kinds of violence. These consequences of a world in disarray due to
religion far outweigh the small personal fulfillments. As Steven Weinberg, an
American physicist and Nobel laureate states, With or without religion, you would
have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good
people to do evil things, that takes religion. Although religion claims to lead people
towards truth, light, and happiness, in reality it actually leads them in the opposite
direction.
The most popular argument against religion in society is the fact that religion leads
to war and violence which then in turn results in poverty,
Spiritual Authority
The Lack of Spiritual Authority in The Rape of the Lock 18th century society
deemed their morality upon social victories and external consumption rather than
internal graciousness. In Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock Canto II, he
depicts spiritual beings to uphold the same materialistic belief as they only protect
Belinda s external beauties. Their anticipation for something bad to happen, yet focus
upon mundane items indicate the lack of higher authority they possess. When Ariel
commands the Sylphs to their posts, he fails to recognize the protection of Belinda s
heart and soul and instead focuses on her earrings and watch. Pope satirizes the
importance of virginity and purity the Catholic church teaches by belittling the power

When Belinda is in dire need of spiritual aides, Ariel calls out, But what, or where,
the Fates have wrapped in the night; Whether the humph shall break Diana s law
(106 105). Diana is noted in the footnotes to be the goddess of chastity. However,
she is also commonly known as the goddess of the hunt and of wild animals. Thus
adding to the uncontrollable nature of humans and their psychological desires for sex
that is often repressed by the Catholic churches emphasis on purity and virginity. He
is indirectly ridiculing the authority of Roman Catholics and the heart of their beliefs,
pressed upon them by the Vatican. Pope also includes the missing direction of the
Fates as a motif to indicate the destiny of humans that is ultimately controlled by the
individuals choices rather than spiritual protection. In saying that if the Fates break
Diana s law of chastity, Pope is emphasizing the lack of control these mythological
creatures have over the protection of Belinda s purity and

1. Introduction
Among the various disasters in the world, earthquakes have caused lots of losses and
damage to structures and lifelines. Thus, evaluating the seismic responses of such
structures is essential to disaster risk reduction programs. In disaster planning,
buildings are the important structures which should be prepared with strongly
resistance to earthquake. Myanmar is earthquake prone area and one of the major
active faults is Sagaing fault which is known to have produced significant
earthquakes in the past. The history of the region indicates that there was a strong
possibility of major earthquakes occurrence and suffered immense losses of life and
property.
Yangon, the biggest city in Myanmar, is located near Sagaing fault and many
earthquakes with various intensities occurred frequently. Over the past three decades,
urbanization in Yangon has been rapidly increasing and most of the buildings in
congested downtown of Yangon is reinforced concretebuildings. These buildings are
regular in plan and designed for gravity loads only. They are built with minimal
consideration of building codes, sound construction and urban planning practices.
These buildings have limited lateral resistance and are susceptible to story
mechanisms during earthquake loading. Damage estimation is a vital part of the
seismic performance evaluation of buildings and other structures with
Negative Effects Of Facebook Addiction
Nahla Odish Professor Freeman ESL 119 20 Nov. 2017 How Bad Is Addiction To
Facebook? Facebook is one of the most widely used social sites in the world, and
due to its broad reach and usage, it has dramatically influenced lives in the world.
The Internet has made everything so easy. The advances in mobile and network
connectivity in the world s recent times have led to an increased number of people
on social networks with Facebook taking the lead. Products are easily accessible
and easy to use, regardless of the location of the user, and this has led to a
constantly increasing numbers of users. Since its invention, it has been a tool of
communication and connecting with friends, and it has made us feel so good that
we no longer notice ourselves already sunken in its power that we become
addicted. According to Psychology Today People who have developed an addiction
may not be aware that their behavior is out of control and causing problems for
themselves and others. , so addicted to Facebook makes us no longer live without
Facebook it has become unhealthy, and this problem has a concentrate that we need
to do something about it. Therefore, this research paper will discuss what Facebook
addiction is, what impact that Facebook addiction can cause, why people should
withdraw from Facebook addiction and ways on how to do it. A researcher, Anindita

Technological Advancements In Criminal Investigations
If this study was conducted today I believe that the conclusions would be somewhat
the same as the findings back then. With the technological advancements of cell
phones, Global Positioning Systems, the 911 system and computers today, police
response times have been greatly reduced. This allows for the greater possibility of
capturing an offender at or nearby the scene. This also allows for not only police
response times to be decreased but also response times for other first responders that
provide lifesaving first aid. With the advancements in forensics the greater chance of
catching a criminal after the fact has been greatly improved which allows for the
police to be more reactive when a crimehas finally been discovered. With police
departments designing precincts in a more efficient manner and utilizing Intelligence

reactive in nature.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the time when the study was completed, criminals were in fear of the police
capturing them during the commission of a crime. However today, criminals are
much more brazen in committing crimes even with police presence. With the ease
for criminals to obtain a firearm, many more criminals possess a firearm during the
commission of crimes and are not afraid to use that firearm against police. Even
though preventative patrols are still being accomplished in policing today, the
findings of the study that preventative patrols do not reduce the amount of criminal
activity would be much the same as back
Corbel Research Paper

modern look Or embrace classic lines and the additonal support of pretty brackets
The bottom line is corbels are dramatic, but are they overly so like Shakespeare?
Or are they addtional support to display your prized posessions? The word corbel
comes from the Latin word corbellus or raven, which refers to the bracket that juts
out like a beak. A corbel is a piece of stone, wood or metal that goes under a mantel,
arch or any overhang to carry addtional weight. But they also can be ornate, richly
carved pieces of functional artwork. In classical architecture corbels were used to

Adaptive Behavior Essay
Adaptive behaviour has been an integral although sometimes unstated, part of the
long history of mental retardation and its definition. In the 19th century, mental
retardation was recognized principally in terms of a number of factors that included
awareness and understanding of surroundings, ability to engage in regular economic
and social life, dependence on others, the ability to maintain one s basic health and
safety, and individual responsibility (Brockley, 1999).
The assessment of adaptive behaviour became a formal part of the diagnostic
nomenclature for mental retardation with the publication of the 1959 manual of the
American Association of Mental Deficiency (Heber, 1959, distributed in 1961). The
1961 manual (Heber, 1961) discussed adaptive behaviour with respect to maturation,
learning, and social adjustment. This framework, reiterated in 1983, described
adaptive behaviour limitations consisting of significant limitations in an individual s
effectiveness in meeting the standards of maturation, learning, personal
independence, or social maturity that are expected for his or her age level and
cultural group, as determined by clinical assessment and, usually, standardized scales
(Grossman, 1983).
The 1983 manual characterized the tasks or activities encompassed by adaptive
behavior (and, social competence) as:
In infancy and early childhood: sensorimotor development, communication skills, self
help skills, socialization, and interaction with others;

Emmanuel Kant Research Paper
Before critical theory was fully developed and defined, many philosophers played a
part influencing future thinkers in the way we critique reason, ourselves, society, and
ultimately how we can strive towards autonomy and freedom. These four German
historical figures were: Emmanuel Kant, J.G. Fichte, G.W.F. Hegel and Karl Marx.
Emmanuel Kant was born in 1724 and died in 1804 in Konigsberg, Prussia. He was
one of nine children and grew up in a strict religious household. From the age of 16,
Kant spent most of his years in life at the University of Konigsberg as a student and
completing his own research. As a youth, he studied philosophy, sciences, and the
works of Isaac Newton. Although Kant is known for his philosophical contributions,
he made major contribution to astronomy in the 1750 s and 60 s by theorizing about
our solar system and the Earth s rotation.
Kant became interested in the structure and limits to our own knowledge. Three
critiques were written between 1781 and 1790: Critique of Pure Reason, Critique of

In addition to his philosophical views, he wrote Addresses to the German Nation
(1808) which shared his views on the nationalism of Germany. As a philosopher,
Fitche would connect the ideas between the subjective idealism of Kant and the
objective idealism of Hegel. (Bronner)
G.W.F. Hegel was born in 1770, Stuttgart, Germany. As a German Idealist he was
very influential in the 1900 s. Hegel spent most of his career as a tutor, teacher,
and university professor. Known in history as a German Idealist, he was influential
during the 1900 s. His works include: Phenomenology of Mind (1807), The Science
of Logic (1812), Encyclopedia of Philosophical Sciences (1816) and the Elements of
Philosophy of Right (1820). His writings are rooted in history and view historical

Life Of A Multi Sport Athlete
There is a time in the life of a busy multi sport athlete (and especially the longer,
time constrained, endurance athlete) when you must eat, it must be a complete
meal, and it must be quick. Your body can only support high volume training,
proper performance, and immune system strength for a limited period of time if
all your quick meals consist of microwaved meals in a box, gas station trail mix,
and even all organic food bars. You ll eventually crash. So you must make a habit
of regularly eating fast healthy meals and wholesome foods without heavy
amounts of preservatives, salts, sweeteners, and synthetic chemicals, and you
must to figure out how to do it without huge amounts of time and preparation
needed. On that note, I m going to give you my top ten meals that I rely on when I
need good, nutritious food fast. That is, when I ve finished a big ride and have to
be at work in 10 minutes, when I ve gotten back from the gym and need to be in
ben within an hour, or when I have just a few minutes to make a dish to fuel a
workout. Each meal includes a complete blend of protein and carbs for recovery
and performance needs, and while none of these quick healthy meals are as tasty as
filet mignon, lobster ravioli, or a loaded chopped vegetable salad, they will fulfill
the physiological needs of the busy multi sport athlete. These are all relatively cheap
eats with ingredients that are budget friendly. Here are the top 10 meals that I

the situation understandable and predictable? I found the resolution to be
understandable, but not predictable. Releasing RU486 would have been seen as
Roussel Uclaf consciously choosing a side in the debate. Not releasing the drug has a
greater chance of being understood as avoiding a controversial issue rather than
choosing sides. I do not understand much about patent laws or foreign governments

Americ The Great Wagon Road
People came to America to get away from Britain rule, so when Britain governed
most of the thirty two colonies, thirteen colonies decided to rebel against the
crown during 1775. America was growing fairly big with 2.5 million people and
ninety percent lived as rural farmers. In addition, America became a big melting
pot of different races. For example, Germans were six percent of the population,
and they mostly lived in Pennsylvania. Scots Irish were seven percent of the
population, and they settled along the Great Wagon Road. Then, five percent of
the multicolored population consisted of French Huguenots, Welsh, Dutch,
Swedes, Jews, Irish, Swiss, and Scots Highlanders. America was the land of
opportunity, and anyone who was willing to work could go from rags to riches.
Class differences emerged as a small group of aristocrats had all the power, and the
black slaves were the lowest on the social ladder. It was best to be a clergyman or a
physician. However, physicians were not that well trained and not highly
esteemed. The first medical school opened in 1765. Unfortunately, this didn t
prepare them for the plague, small pox. Also, if you were a lawyer, you were
assumed to be nosey scumbags. Finally, in 1750, lawyers were recognized as
useful, and they defended many high profile cases and played important parts in
American history. However, being a farmer was a great thing because it was a stable
job. Soon trade became very popular in New England. They created a
Why Is Martha Graham Important To Dance
Martha Graham was born May 11th, 1894 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania United States
(Terry, 2016). Martha was a noteworthy dancer, teacher, and choreographer who
specialized in ballet. Over more than 50 years she created more than 180 works, from
solos to large scale works, in most of which she herself danced. She gave modern
dancenew depth as a vehicle for the intense and forceful expression of primal
emotions (Terry, 2016, pg. 1). As the daughter if an esteemed physician this sparked
her interest in expression through bodily movements. Dance is considered to be a
form of self expression and can often times tell a story, knowing this, Martha often

She would often use her influential status, as a well respected ambassador, and
highly regarded opinion to influence others and society. In 1955 the Martha
Graham Dance Company became one of the first dance troupes sent abroad under
the auspices of President Dwight D. Eisen hower s 1954 Emergency Fund for
International Affairs (Geduld, 2010, pg. 44). For Martha, she wanted her dances to
say something and make a statement and due to her popularity they often did.
Some of her more famous and moving works were about country and people s
struggles across various cultures. Her 1927 piece, Revolt, was one of her first
dances that portrayed social comment, she was speaking for the individual, for the
outraged spirit...the young radicals, political or aesthetic (and they were frequently
the same people), began to take her up as their dancer, their voice (DeMille, 1991, pg.
Human Nature Being Savage Analysis
Human beings are said to have separateness amongst them, resulting in humans
being in a war of all against all (Locke). Locke had an idea that society is actually
odd to man, and is a side affect of mankind trying to fight its savage urges. To
counteract its true nature, humans within society agree to follow various social
contracts . The social contracttheory is the idea that a human s political obligations
and/or morals are based upon one s surroundings and the agreements they form and
construct where they live. This further proves the idea of man s nature being savage
and our continued refusal to acknowledge it.
Like I have stated previously, one of the main reasons mankind must be savages at
heart is because of our constant refusal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dental Hygienist
Dental hygienists work hard everyday to inform society about their oral health.
Dental hygiene is important when it comes to a healthy mouth. Learning how to
maintain good oral health is one of the key factors in successful oral care. Once the
proper etiquette is learned, a person is on the next level to a clean and healthy smile!
Today, dental hygienists require high training in order to properly use the right and
equipment and skills to educate people about good dental hygiene.
Although oral problems have been around since the beginning of mankind (SB 1),
the work in the dental field is still changing today. Efforts of treating tooth decay date

My Dream Is To Become An OGYN
My dream is to become a OBGYN. I actually started wanting to become one was last
year in the 11th grade at my old school we had a career day and one of the speakers
was a OBGYN I was so influence about her talking about the perks of being one. Ever
since I was little I loved little babies and a woman s body l thoughtbirth was such a
beautiful thing of course painful. Also, what attracted to becoming an OBGYN is
also helping a child or mother in need. I hope to accomplish in this dream job is
becoming successful and helping people with their daily lives. I actually haven t
prepared myself for this career, but, I did do research on my dream job my career
takes patience.
According to the news today a OBGYN can make up to 120,000 each year for me, i
m more comfortable with that because I will buy my dream car I will buy my dream
house and when I have accomplished that I know I have become successful.
When I hit college I, will prepare myself by looking more into my major, of course,
take classes and communicate with others around me that is interested in the same
major I am.

Pros And Cons Of Tv
The television has become such an essential part of the modern household that we
can t imagine our lives without it. People of all ages spend a great amount of time
in front of the TV. Except for entertaining purposes, TV is also a valuable resource of
news, advertising and different types of programs TV shows, televisionseries and
shows. A lot it s been said and written about it but the truth is the TV has not always
been what we know it today.
The invention of the television was the work of many individuals in the late 19th
century and early 20th century. It went through a lot of different forms until it
reaches what we know and use today. The basic technologies and ideas that laid the
foundation for the invention of television are a result of different experiments by

And it seems right to us but when studies go deeper into the reason for watching TV,
it turns out that it is largely about our social and emotional needs as people.
Big part of the most watched TV programs are usually the news. This represent the
TVs mission to inform. But why do we feel need to watch the news? The truth is
that people are interested in finding out what is happening in their world. This may
represent our need for a sense of connection and our wish to be a part of the society.
But on the other side it might also suggest our natural born curiosity.
One of the most popular TV programs nowadays are the TV series. There are
hundreds of them from drama through crimes to Game of Thrones. What makes us
watch TV series over and over again? It s the emotional engagement. Of course, we
are smart human beings and we clearly understand that the actors are not with us in
the living room and their stories aren t real. But the psychological response we have
to seeing a familiar actor on the TV is the same as when we see a friend in the real
life. The same areas of the brain are
Florida Californi A Great Impact On The Most Diverse...
California has been known for it s beautiful golden coast, stunning mountain ranges,
and the always wonderful sunny weather. The state houses the largest and second
most diverse population of people in the United States. The large diversity of the
people could be contributed by the vast differing landscapes that stretch across the
state. Northern Californiain particular, is home to a variety of enormous mountains,
mountain ranges, beautiful lakes, and forever flowing rivers. People come from all
over to witness these breathtaking views. As for Southern California the alluring
beaches, rolling grass valleys, and various other attractions make for a significant
difference to northern California. The difference in environments has a great impact
on the type of people that live in each region. An individual s race, ethnicity,
hobbies, political views, job, etc. all can have an impact on what area of California
they live in. Some people, including myself enjoy a lot of outdoor activities that fit
well in Northern California areas such as hunting, hiking, snowboarding, etc.
Meanwhile, people that live in southern California may have much different outdoor
hobbies due to the change in climate. The contrast between north and south almost
creates a split in the state. In 1941, the proposal of a new state, named the State of
Jefferson would take the very upper most part of California and the southern most
part of Oregonto create a 51st state. Today, that proposal has
America s Freedom Of Freedom
Introduction
Since 2011, the Freedom House has classified Mexico as a purple, or a not free
country in its annual Freedom of the Press report. The upraise of violence in the
country, stemmed from its war against drugs, has threatened Mexico s freedom of
expression and practice of journalism, undermining the foundations of the country s
democracy. During the last 12 years, 82 journalists have been murdered, 18 have
disappeared and there have been 33 attacks on media outlets according to the National
Human Rights Comission.
The legal system in Mexico is so weak and fragmented that those responsible for the
attacks on journalists rarely face consequences. The lack of rule of law aggravates
the fear of the brave journalists that risk their lives daily to report the harsh truths of
what really happens in the country. These journalists deserve and should be protected
by their government, but Mexican journalists don t only have the drug cartel s as their
enemies, but corrupt government officials as well.
Members of international institutions like the United Nations and the Inter American
Commission on Human Rights have urged Mexican authorities to do more to ensure
that freedom of expression in the country is protected. It is important to understand
the government s involvement in the war on drugs and the role of the country s legal
system to understand how Mexico s war on drugs has jeopardized the lives of
hundreds of journalists.

Kellogg Company
Introduction
The Kellogg Company is the world s leading producer of cereal and one of the
leaders in the production of convenience foods. The company reported sales of
nearly $11 billion for 2006; sales revenue has steadily risen over the last decade.
Kellogg s products are made in seventeen countries and are sold in more than 180
countries. According to the company website, Kellogg Company has a rich history of
corporate social responsibility, a history that has grown and evolved to meet the
complexities of today s business world and the challenges of a global society
(kelloggcompany.com,2006). Kellogg has made it clear that the company was

Commitment to Nutrition
Kelloggnutrition.com states that the Kellogg Company was founded with a
philosophy that encouraged people to improve their health (kellognutrition.com,
2006). Kellogg was the first company to put nutrition labels, recipes, and product
information on the back and sides of their cereal boxes in the 1930s. The company
wants their consumers to be well informed of what is in their products so that they
can decide for themselves if it s right for their families. According to msnbc.com,
Kellogg has also taken a step further from choosing to stop advertising to young
children by also deciding to increase the nutritional value of the snacks and cereals
that are targeted at children. The company is showing that they have genuine concern
for children and are taking steps to make their products healthier for them.
Kellogg s Awards
National.unitedway.org recently reported that they honored Kellogg by presenting
them with the 20th annual Spirit of America Corporate Community Investment
Summit Award. This was given to show the United Way s gratitude for Kellogg s
support of their fundraising and volunteer activities within local communities. The
United Way sees Kellogg s donation of their money and time as inspirational and
should be modeled by other corporations (national.unitedway.org, May 2007). The

Common Infection Among Women During Child Bearing
Period
Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is a common infection among women, it can affect
up to 75% of women during child bearing period. VVC usually associated with
considerable morbidity; symptoms include intense pruritus, vaginal discharge and
dyspareunia. Many factors have been identified to predispose to such condition such
as oral contraceptive pills, pregnancy, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and long term
broad spectrum antibiotic (Cassone, 2015, Falagas et al., 2006). Beyond the normal
host, the range of patients at risk for invasive candidiasisexpand to patients with
acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, those immunosuppressed due to cancer
therapy and organ transplantation (Bassyouni et al., 2015a).
Recurrent VVC (RVVC) is a more serious condition due to recurrences of symptoms
( 4/year) and refraction to successful treatment. Long term fluconazole therapy may
help in delaying the recurrences but does not result in a long lasting cure (Sobel et
al., 2004). Maintenance and preventive therapy is essential for six months but,
patients may need to stay on medication for a longer period (Ringdahl, 2000).
Recent epidemiological studies founded the prevalence of RVVC higher than that
reported previously as the recurrence rate about 7 8% of women who experience a
first episode and the discomfort associated with RVVC is intense which markedly
affects the quality of life of young women with a strong negative impact on work and
social life (Cassone, 2015).

Increased productivity as a result of training and development within a sheriff s
organization Introduction Training and development is one of the fields in human
resource management. It is concerned with the activity of the organization that is
aimed towards bettering the performance of the individual members of the
organization as well as groups and teams in the organization. It also has other names
such as learning and development and human resource development. It encompasses
three main activities. These are training, development and education. Training is the
activity which involves focusing on and evaluating the job that is held by the
individual. Development refers to the activities which focus on the activities taken by
the organization which employs the staff to better the working environment. These
activities are next to impossible to evaluate. Education refers to focusing on the jobs
that individuals hold in future and it is evaluated against these jobs. When an
organization undertakes these training and development activities, they led to

Brief Summary Of The Anti-Star Wars
The galaxy is in a state of civil war, and spies for the Rebel Alliance have stolen plans
to the Galactic Empire s Death Star, a heavily armed and armored space station
capable of destroying entire planets. Rebel leader Princess Leia is in possession of
the plans, but her ship is captured by Imperial forces under the command of the evil
Lord Darth Vader. Before she is captured Leia hides the plans in the memory of an
astromech droid called R2 D2, along with a holographic recording. The droid,
accompanied by fellow protocol droid C 3PO, escape from the captured ship to the
desert planet Tatooine.
The droids are captured by Jawa traders, who sell the pair to moisture farmers Owen
and Beru Lars and their nephew, Luke Skywalker. While he cleans R2 D2 Luke
accidentally triggers the playing of part of Leia s recording, in which she requests
help from Obi Wan Kenobi. Luke wonders if she is referring to Ben Kenobi, a hermit
who lives nearby; then he retires for the evening. The next morning Luke finds R2
D2 searching for Obi Wan, and after nearly being killed by attacking Tusken Raiders
meets Ben, who scares away the raiders and reveals himself to be Obi Wan. Obi Wan

Skeletons Alternate Ending
Once upon a time, on a beautiful Sunday morning. Paul decided to convince his

the skeletons were just decoration. Although, they found it odd that not one soul was

National Living Wage
Is the new national living wage actually a step up for Britain?
On the 8th of July 2015, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne,
announced the regulations regarding the new national living wage. From April
2016, this will become law, which means that If you re working and aged 25 or over
and not in the first year of an apprenticeship, you ll be legally entitled to at least
ВЈ7.20 per hour. (HM Government, 2015) This an increase of 50p compared to the
previous ВЈ6.70, which makes it the largest increase regarding the national living
wage since 2009. (GOV.UK, 2016) This essay will discuss the likely economic
effects the new national living wage will have on productivity, employment and
poverty. It will do so by stating a general assumption ... Show more content on

Income and poverty are strongly linked. The first assumption, therefore is, that
with an increase in the national living wage, resulting in more income, poverty is
likely to go down. This, however, does not mean it is a cure for poverty. The
national living wage is for everyone and even though this seems to be a fair
concept. There will still be people which are not as well of as others. Much more
has to be done in order to decrease poverty than a 50 pence increase in the national
living wage. The increase might have been announced with good intentions but
one principle is fundamental in the amelioration of poverty: those who are equally
in need should be helped equally. (Stigler, 1946: 364) While higher wages could be
seen as some type of help many of the workers benefiting from them are not even
classified as poor which means that poverty is not as directly affected as
employment or productivity. Another factor that will not benefit those living in
poverty is the increase in prices that is assumed to come with the new national
living wage. This is due to increased demand for goods and services as well as
producers trying to balance out the additional money they now have to spend on
wages. Which leads to the difference between those living in poverty while having
a job and those who are not employed. The extra 50 pence earned every hour will
give those being employed the possibility to make up for the higher prices and might
even help them out of poverty. People moving out of poverty could also benefit the
government. During the financial year 2013/2014 the UK spent ВЈ251 billion on
welfare. (ONS Digital, 2015) From April 2016, when the workers will earn more this
could mean there might be less additional support needed from the government and at
the same time more money available to the government to invest elsewhere such as in
education or
Chief Project Leader For Musat s New Project
As the appointed project leader for MusAt s new project, I have arranged a team of
five creative members with different skills and talent to execute and finalise the
project. The paper will introduce the members I have chosen and justify why I have
appointed them to the team. I will also address potential issues of each member and
as a manager I will justify how I will oversee outcomes of the workto report to Fiona.
First appointed member of the team is Dagma. I have chosen Dagma for her long
term experience in the industry and capability to manage a team with maturity.
Dagma will be useful in the project to oversee new members to MuSat such as
Angela Hutness. Because Dagma is and mature member of the group with an
authoritative attitude, Dagma will be my eyes and ears for reporting of other
members of the team. This approach, according Beir (1995), is using a leader
within the team who knowns the team well enough to compensate for any risks in
the creative process, (Beir, 1995, p. 503). Dagma will fill structural holes for
instances, running along information to members like Charles who may be left out
due to leaving meetings early. Other team members such as Philippa who might work
solo could leave information gaps in the reporting, Dagma will be able to focus on the
process of others in the project and translate information across the team when I am
unable to, inevitably building trust within the team.,(Burt, 2004). In addition I have
chosen Dagma to work without

Recommended levels are 0.8g per kilo weight. Complete reduction of protein
intake is required. Consumption of the adequate level range is enough to supply
the body with adequate proteins for repair and body building. CHO intake should
be 130 g per day, however in this case as much as there are no ranges given, the
level of carbohydrates is high and needs amendment. A complete overhaul the diet
needs to be changed with reduction of high energy foods, proteins and

Power Rangers Character Analysis
Power Rangers (2017), directed by Dean Israelite, has near unilaterally been hailed
as an extraordinary testament to the modern wave of diversity positivity. In this latest
installment, the crew of superhero teenagers features representation from not only a
multitude of races, but also the first openly queer superhero in a movie, ever. And
while the popular superhero Deadpool, in his comics, is openly pansexual, it has yet
to be mentioned in the films. This movie was also the first to portray an autistic
superhero, and did so accurately without falling into common tropes. Power Rangers
had a lot of firsts in it, and as a result was one of the most popular superhero movies
of 2017. Firstly, not to discredit the original American series, Mighty Morphin
Power Rangers. Adapted from the Japanese live action television series, it too was
ahead of their its with heterogeneity in regards to race and gender. However, there
were many issues with the portrayal of the characters. For instance, the yellow
ranger was Asian American, and the black ranger was African American. In
addition, the yellow ranger was continuously trying to center herself, and when she
fought, she would do so with a stereotypical Asian accent, which was not present in
her normal speaking voice. Also, the black ranger spoke in slang and fought in a
hip hop karate style, where he would breakdance to defeat his enemies (Blay 2017)
This is all not to say that the strides they made for diversity and

3.The three drivers I chose were 1.) available Ton miles 2.) Number of Departures
3.)Revenue Passengers Miles These three drivers had the best R square values and
that is why I chose them. This method is a considerable upgrade from all of the
other methods and gives us the best available outcome. This outcome takes
multiple variables and combines them into one equation. The multiple regressions
R square(.8615) is higher than the single regression so there is some conflict with
the method. 4. For the questions 1 3 we found out a couple different cost functions
that could be useful for Delta when predicting salaries for 2003 and 2004. The
multiple regressions may be most reliable considering it uses multiple variables,
but the single R square is better than multiple regressions. 5. I used the Average

tell us a lot in direct correlation because it only takes one variable and it takes the
two extremes of that variable. 6. I think It reasonable to assume that Delta can expect

Dark Matter, By Fritz Zwicky
Dark Matter was first proposed by Fritz Zwicky in the 1930 s when he observed the
motions of galaxies and he noticed that the amount of visible objects could not
account for the observations he made. There had to be some invisible mass holding
these galaxies together. It is known that 25% of our universe is made up dark matter
versus 4% of the visible matter we know and interact with every day. The leading
candidates for dark matter are MACHOs and WIMPS. Gravitational lensing is one
of the ways we can infer the presence dark matter, since we cannot see it directly.
With the discovery of dark matter, the standard modelof physics no longer answers all
the questions. For that, we need another model, called supersymmetry.
Dark matter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This didn t make any sense as we would expect orbits to be slower the further from
the center they are located (The University of Texas McDonald Observatory). With
the discovery of dark matter, and discovering the missing mass, the thought was
that the universe would end in a Big Crunch. However, that is not the case because
something else is causing the expansion of the universe at an accelerating rate, this
is known as Dark Energy. We ve also been able to measure the cosmic microwave
background radiation from the after effects of the big bang. The microwave
radiation tells us the composition of the universe, including that there must have
been dark matter (Powell, 2013). The two leading culprits of dark matter are
MACHOs, or MAssive Compact Halo Objects, and WIMPS, or Weakly Interacting
Massive Particles (Newman, 2009). MACHOs are baryonic matter, meaning they
consist of protons and neutrons, which include black holes, brown dwarfs, and
neutron stars (Newman, 2009). These objects produce a phenomena known as
gravitational lensing (Goldsmith). Gravitational lensing happens when objects,
like a black hole, brown dwarfs, or neutron star, pass in front of a star or a galaxy
and cause light itself to bend. That is, from Earth we observe a black hole and
directly behind that is a galaxy, the light emitted from the galaxy gets bent around
the black hole. There is almost a halo like appearance around the black hole due to
the distortion of

One solution, for the primary problem of Mike missing meetings and being left out
of the group, would be to explain the situation to Professor Sandra. Christine could
have approached Sandra to explain that Mike had been very distant and not
cooperating with meetings. There are limited things that Sandra could have done;
however at least she would have been informed and understood. The pros to
approaching the professor could have been to possibly get Mike on the right track
and take the responsibility off the team. The professor could have made
arrangements or provided guidance for Mike if he explained his problems about
class, work, and his girlfriend early on. They may have been granted an extension
or could have had a group meeting during class. The cons of this solution would be
that Mike would think Christine was a tattle tale and he could get angry at the
group and become more distant. Professor Sandra could have also told the group
to find a way to work it out and/or pick up his slack. A group project means that
each member performs their part, so approaching the professor would have informed
Sandra of the lack of effort on Mike s behalf and that everyone else is participating
and doing their part. On the other hand, another solution would be to actually
evaluate and use Mike s notes and information even though he was
The Dystopian Novel, By George Orwell, And Andrew
Niccol...
War is peace, freedom is slavery, Ignorance is strength (Orwell 7) this is one of the
very many slogans that were used to control society in George Orwell s piece 1984.
Dystopian literature is a futuristic universe that is oppressive and uses bureaucratic,
totalitarian, and/or technological control to control society. In Orwell s Dystopian
book 1984, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr s short story Harrison Bergeron , and Andrew Niccol s
film In time, there are many examples of a Dystopiais that contain a lot of
comparisons between the stories. Dystopian literature whether it be novel, film, or
short story focuses on similar characteristics and things. A similarity that these three
dystopias have in common is the time setting. All of these stories are set to be in a
futuristic time, or at least a time that was the future from them. For instance, Orwell s
book 1984 was written in 1948 as it stated on crisesmagazine.com George Orwell
Wrote 1984 in 1948 , but since it wasn t 1984, or anywhere near, so at the time it
was considered the future. In Vonnegut s short story Harrison Bergeron the author
clearly gives evidence that they are ahead of time when he writes The year was
2081 and everybody was finally equal (Vonnegut 1). the story is set to be 66 years
ahead of the current year. In Niccol s dystopian movie In time, the exact year is not
clearly stated, but in the plot summary written by Claudio Carvalho they mention that
it was set to be in futuristic times as it says In a
Cultural And Societal Influence On Adolescents
Different types of environments change the way technology is used by society. The
belief system surrounding technology relies on everything from religion and
spirituality to gender, sexuality, work ethics, and politics. The range of attitudes that a
culture embraces on a particular topic affects the beliefs, lifestyles, and perceptions of
their adolescents. They both can have both positive and negative impacts on
adolescents development. (Cultural and Societal Influences on Adolescent
Development). Particularly, living in a rural area, on a farm greatly shifted my
perspective of electronics: respecting them more, allowing me the ability to scrutinize

Stewart explained that kids who can recognize their regret for being on electronics
have the ability to regain their lost skills, such as time management and denial. Dr.
Stewart dismissed that technology was not addictive: Technology is a drug... it
makes you feel as if you lost your sense of things. As adolescents mature, they
become less active in their family if they are influenced by technology, whereas if
not influenced by technology they would be more active in family affairs. She

Electronics were just another hobby that one of her kids had. This hobby of building
computers for peers, fixing electronics around the house, advising strangers how to
troubleshoot and fix their problem accordingly, even finding expertise in becoming
anonymous across the internet has affected siblings, parents, friends, and strangers.
Nevertheless, there are severe downfalls to this hobby. Just as professional sports
players spend the majority of their time training and playing, I experiment with
various electronic devices and research them. If one considers a passion for any
activity healthy then my passion should subsequently be considered healthy. Any one
event while using electronics i.e. a laptop, can set one up for aliment, as it modifies
how they interact and socialize with others. It also shows how they would
The Time to End Affirmative Action Essay
The Time to End Affirmative Action Today we live in America in the 21st Century.
We have witnessed dreams come true brought from our new science and
technology. We have created engineering wonders and medical miracles that blur
the line between life and death. It is truly a fantastic time and place to live and we
are. However, in this land of the free and home of the brave that was founded on the
premise set forth from our founding fathers in the birth cry of our nation, Declaration
of Independence, that All men are created equal , our legislation does not reflect that.
Our court systems and our businesses are overrun with by legislation that is
discriminatory itself, but its intent is to do just the opposite: prevent... Show more

However, I also no not favor legislation reinforcing, emphasizing, or elevating, the
rights of any individual over that of another, especially if a founding principal of
this nation was the equality of all. I believe that if legislation protecting the rights
of the individual is necessary, said legislation should be written and applied across
the board to all citizens in the land and not targeted to protect specific races or
genders. Nor am I naive. I will be the first to admit that slavery was wrong. It was
an atrocious mistake of our early nation. An early step away from that, segregation
through concepts of separate by equal , was also wrong. I will not try to defend
them for a moment, but I also feel that the time has come for the United States
government to cease apologizing for its mistakes. Again, one can not move
forward when focused on the past. Men like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, were
needed and their courage and actions are to be commended and remembered. I
agree with him when he said, I have a dream that my four children will one day live
in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the
content of their character. That is a dream I believe in as well. I feel that character,
aptitude, intelligence, ability all should be what we judge and individual on, but
forty years after these words have been spoken we are still focused on the
Impact Of Cinema On The United Kingdom
In the immediate post war period, cinema going was at an all time high as almost
every town and village in the United Kingdom had a local cinema with one screen.
Economic recession, the popularity of TV and the introduction of video all served
to bring about the closure of a great many of these venues. Attitudes to leisure and
spending changed as there seemed to be much more on offer such as foreign
travel, consumer goods to mention a few. In addition, those who couldn t access a
cinema felt unable to fully participate in the cultural life of the nation. Today s
cinema however, has evolved to be one which has enough screens to give a wide
choice of films providing for variety, one which is sophisticated and friendly, one

church in Enfield which moved into Enfield CINEWORLD Complex in 2005 with
a followership of 100 people. The church followership has since grown to over 1000
followers holding two services every Sunday. The church s mission statement is, It s
all about Jesus . Committed to the belief that church is not all about buildings and
tradition but rather about knowing and worshipping God, loving people and reaching
the lost, all in a context of community; they offer services such as a befriending
service to elderly people in Enfield, soup kitchens, summer tutorial services, free
parent and toddler groups and a food bank. Ordinarily one would think it strange how
these two very different stakeholders though with seemingly similar mission
statements housed in one complex could work. Taking into consideration the

Revelation Sparknotes
The book Revelation by David Yonggi Cho is an informative book about the
mysteries of Revelation. Throughout revelation there is trials and tribulations that
the people of earth will have to go through because they did not believe in God, and
did not wish to be saved. In revelation God the Father and the Son will cleanse this
world of all sin and evil. Revelation is a book of the bible that tells what is to come
in the future, just like the books Daniel and Isaiah. God is each one of these books
appears to people and gives the visions of what is to come. Jesus is coming back
for his people, they are the true church not the people who act like they are believers.
Jesus will come back for the church before the tribulation this is called the rapture.
The Rapture of the church is the catching up of all true believers in Christ to meet the
Lord in the air. People often times think that the rapture and the... Show more content

God will tell his angels to sound seven trumpets at different times, and for each
trumpet there was a great calamity that occured. The first trumpet was hail and
fire, the second the sea turned to blood, third the rivers to blood, fourth there was a
darkness, fifth there was a great heat, sixth there was a the Euphrates dries up,
seventh there was a great earthquake and hail. All these things are to make the
people of earth see God s power and to change their ways and give their lives to
God. Sadly this will not happen because they will have hard hearts, and instead hate
God. The thing is since they are not going to change their hearts they will suffer
throughout the tribulation wanting death but it shall elude them. Many will die
because of the calamities, but those that don t will have to suffer in pain on earth.
And when they die they will be in even worse pain because they will have gone to
fiery hell rather than the blissful
Dualist Theory Of Dualism
We all know that everything in the world isn t perfect; everything essentially has its
own flaws. The scientific understanding of our world has been ever changing, not
because we are unintelligent but because as time continues, we gather more
information and finding that correct past mistakes. The same goes for the theory of
dualism. There are gaps in this theory, but they have the potential of being found. It
might take more time and more discoveries in order to find these gaps; these gaps,
however, do not define whether the theory is true or false. Now how could
something nonphysical have affect on the physical world around it? This question is
one of the major fault in the theory of dualism. For something to physically move, a
force has to act upon an object, hence the formula mass divided by acceleration
equals force. The mind, believed by dualist, is a nonphysical thing that exists and
has affect on the world. However how is this possible if the mind has no mass nor
can produce a force. This is one of the main arguments physicalists has against the
dualist. Physicalists believe that because an object needs the ability to create a force
in order to have affect on reality, the mind has to be apart of the body, a physical
thing. Materialists, unlike dualist, believe that human beings are purely physical
beings, and that any mental state must be some state of the physical body.
Materialism has none of the problems of interactionism... Unlike interactionism, it
does
Mad Max Fury Road

never seen To say Mad Max: Fury Road was a surprise it s both, true and lie. It is a
lie because I already expected this movie to be really good, there was no doubt
director George Miller can immerse you into a world of anarchistic madness and
superb designed character costumes (how is it that this guy was the director of
Happy Feet?). And it is true, because what I didn t expect was this movie to be that
good, surpassing even the previous ones in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Let s extend a little on the action scenes, the fact that they were made with practical
effects, gives them a different look from the blockbusters we ve seen in the last 10
years, and also the choreographic madness that goes for almost the entire movie,
sends you to a 2 hours rush of adrenaline. Other of the most surprising things about
the movie is Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron). This movie could easily be
called Imperator Furiosa and Mad Max , because actually, the heroine in the movie
is her, the most interesting and developed character, give us a hell of a ride in her
rig from and to the Citadel. She is actually the one that kicks off the movie taking
that fateful left turn that sets off the pandemonium. Max (Tom Hardy) is a more
distant character, with a realistic take on how the life he s been living leaves him
with PTSD, having hallucinations and literally, tics. Tom Hardy s portrayal is
great, don t get me wrong, but the character played by Charlize Theron is simply,
larger. To summarize, Mad Max: Fury Road, is one of the best movies of 2015, it
has superb action, it has a flawless crazy anarchist unforgettable world and it has

Comparing Burgess and Draper s Theory of Family
Violence...
Comparing Burgess and Draper s Theory of Family Violence and the Film, The
Burning Bed
I. Introduction
Burgess and Draper argue coercive patterns of family interaction represent the
principal causal pathway that connects ecological instability to violence within
families. They maintain this raises the possibility that some of the common correlates
of such violence are themselves reactions to sudden or chronic ecological
instability. For example, alcoholism, depression, and anxiety may be responses to
ecological stresses in the family, such as loss of employment, excessive financial
debt, or divorce. Burgess and Draper suggest that violence towards one s mate or
children may consequently be a direct result of ecological ... Show more content on

(Ohlin, 87)
Economic instability can also be a direct cause for child maltreatment. As resources
dwindle, Burgess and Draper suggest the survival of the fittest theory which
implies that if there is only enough food for three people and there are four
members in a household, it would be a waste to give the food to a member that is
not economically viable or unlikely to survive even with the food. This is a very
barbaric principle and does not reflect the cultural norms of today s American society.
Undoubtedly, in some places, this may occur but the maltreatment of the Hughes
children did not come in this form.
II. Emotional Reactions
As the social or family structure is changing, Burgess and Draper suggest a few
common feelings that men in particular may encounter. The first feeling is anxiety.
Change brings uncertainty especially if the person in question is not directly
influencing the change. Having someone inferior start a chain reaction that takes
away direct control, can be particularly debilitating to someone who has low self
esteem. This is one of the most common personality traits for abusers like Mickey
Hughes. (Ohlin, 89)
Burgess and Draper also say that wife batterers have an intrusive style , easily
angered, display extreme jealousy, fear of abandonment and violent out busts in
response to personal loss of authority. (Ohlin,
Interpersonal Cross-Cultural Competencies And
Capabilities
Interpersonal cross cultural competencies and capabilities are critical to the US Army
s strategic objective in the future operating environment. The operational environment
requires a holistic view of political, military, economic, social, information, and
infrastructure systems. A country s culture can be defined as a programming of the
mind that distinguishes the members of a region or nation from another. South Africa
has a rich and complex culture and history of its own since its independence from
Britain nearly a century ago. This essay will go on to discuss in depth the culture and
history, as well as geography and military history and concluding with an
understanding of how the people of South Africa live. South Africa s... Show more

Another key point, none of the country s rivers are commercially navigatable, making
water transport impossible. Department of Human Settlements is currently working
through the National Development Plan s 2030 vision of transforming human
settlements and spatial economy to create more functionally integrated, balanced and
vibrant urban settlements. By May 2016, government delivered more than 4.3
million houses and subsidies since 1994, benefiting more than 20 million South
Africans. Law enforcement services in South Africa fall under the Department of
Police, which is responsible for policy determination, direction, and overall
execution of the department s mandate in relation to relevant legislation. The
National Police Commissioner answers directly to the Minister of Police. The
education system of South Africa remains one of the country s highest priorities as
it moves forward towards its 2030 vision. Approximately 88% of South Africans
above the age of five years, attended educational institutions of primary or high
school. South Africa is infamously known for its AIDs epidemic; however, they have
made great progress in comabatting the deadly deasease. The HIV infection rate is
reduced to 1.5% in 2015, while in 2008 it was 8%. South Africa has a vibrant
multiparty political system, with thirteen parties represented in the National

  • 2. How Did Shakespeare Influence An Era Of Theatre As William Shakespeare shaped an era of theatre for the whole world, many other influential and important people shaped the world in different ways. Firstly, Ivan IV Vasilyevich, ruler of Russia, shaped European history through his reign from 1547 through 1584. On the other side of Europe, Queen Elizabeth I ruled England and Ireland shaping relations between Protestantism and Catholicism. Finally, Galileo Galilei influenced the methods of modern science, especially physics, through his pioneering observations of the solar system. During William Shakespeares lifetime, many other prominent people were transforming European politics, Protestant and catholic relations, and scientific discovery. The great and horrible man, Ivan IV Vasilyevich, usually called Ivan The Terrible, ruled Russia in the time of Shakespeare. Crowned as the initial Tsar of Russia,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Born on February 15, 1564, in Pisa, Italy, Galileo Galilei taught mathematics, while creating numerous interesting inventions like the telescope along with his observations about nature. He also helped lead and support the idea of a sun centered solar system, called the Copernican theory. He was the firstborn of six children born to the well known musician and music theorist, Vincenzo Galilei. In 1583, Galileo entered the University of Pisa to study medicine, although he soon became fascinated with many subjects, particularly mathematics and physics, which he would pursue for the rest of his life. Galileo died in Arcetri, Italy, on January 8, 1642, after suffering from a fever and heart problems. Luckily, not long after his death, the Church could no longer deny the truth in science. Finally, in 1758, it lifted the ban on supporting the Copernican theory. Clearly, Galileo Galilei was yet another important person during the life of William

Positioning the Viewer in Frontline to Receive a Particular Version of Telling the Truth All composers of texts position the responder of that text to view their version of the truth in different ways. In the case of Frontline, Rob Stitch and his team position the viewers using a satirical documentary style approach to mock low brow journalism and indeed real life current affairs programs. The easily accessible medium of television encourages the responder to interrogate the events as reality and suggest they are a dramatic reconstruction of events. Through the documentary style on television the Frontline team position to viewer to accept the images presented as reality. Although Frontline... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in the episode We ain t got Dames the fact that Mike is presented as such a fool undermines the credibility of the process of telling the truth. In the episode, crude noises are put onto Mike s computer, with him unable to fix the problem or stand up to Marty who did it. Furthermore, this foolishness presented by the host of the program undermines the media s authority as an institution to tell the truth. Even Mike s very appearance seems to be ridiculous, for example his hair. Mikes hair is fashioned by hairspray to look perfect, which looks ridiculous. Craig Reucassel and Chris Taylor who are presented as anchors on CNNNN are also caricatures of real hosts. They, like Mike, exaggerate mainly gestures and on screen reactions to stories to make them, appear to be sincere, yet at the same time exposing the insincerity of the institution. Moreover, media institutions can pick stories to determine their infotainment value, or their usefulness to the people in power. This is most apparent in the Frontline episode Smaller fish to fry where a big fish is presented to Mike Moore yet he cannot chase it because of the interests of the station from upstairs. This is a prominent example of a media institution choosing a news story because of the effect it would have on the rich and powerful that controls
  • 4. Classical Music Concert Narrative In September, I attended the concert Windfire: Flute and Percussion Spectacular at Rammelkamp Chapel. Paula John Kasica performed on the flute and percussion with Nancy Shaaf accompanying on the piano. This was my first time attending a live classical music concert. I didn t know what to expect. My limited experiences with classical musicwere listening while I studied or using it to fall asleep at night. Honestly, I worried that I might fall asleep during the concert. As it turns out, I had no reason to fret. I brought my two nieces (Mackenzie and Naylani) and my daughter (Talia) along with me to the concert. My girls asked me what to expect and I had no answers for them. The flutist introduced herself and asked if we played... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hopelessly, we searched the forest for the man that was no longer there as the haunting melody played. Suddenly, the percussion began and we envisioned our hero dashing in to save us. Our bodies swayed to the rhythm as we saw Ariadne and Dionysius triumphantly dancing. The Suite Antique prelude brought us back from the forest and enthralled us with the playing of the instruments. Naylani began lifting her arms as though she were playing the flute herself, mimicking the actions of the flutist and the movements of her body as she drew breaths to play. I watched as the pianist s fingers moved eloquently. Soon, my fingers strummed upon my knee in my own attempts to replicate the piano playing. As the ostinato took over the stage, our spirits lifted as the music became full of life. Before I knew it, Naylani was dancing like a woodland fairy and having such a good time. Laughter spread as she began playing the flute again as she danced. The aria brought back the slow and soothing music from before and we watched as the artists played. Our gazes were on the instruments of choice as we dreamed of ourselves playing the pieces we were hearing. Feelings of peace and relaxation developed our bodies as we simply enjoyed the music. Reminiscent of Charlie Brown theme song, we imagined an episode as the waltz played. Charlie Brown walked along as Lucy held a football in hopes of jerking it away at the
  • 5. Independent And Non Executive Directors They are relied upon to be independent from the administration and go about as the trustees of shareholders. This infers that they are committed to be completely aware of and question the conduct of organizations on relevant issues. пѓјThe concept of independent directors can be traced to the developed economies of the West with the United Kingdom and the U.S.A. sharing credit for its evolution during the 1950s even before legislation mandated the induction of independent directors to ensure that corporate entities did not make depredations into the public interest driven by the profit motive alone at the cost of other values. This is what gave rise to the concept of Good Corporate Governance which again owes its origin to the developed economies of the Western Hemisphere . In India, the concept of independent directors was first introduced through voluntary guidelines issued by the Confederation of Indian Industry ( CII ) . The Report suggested that any listed company with a turnover of Rs. 100 crores and above should have professionally competent, independent, non executive directors, who should constitute at least 30 per cent of the board if the chairman of the company is a non executive director or at least 50 per cent of the board if the chairman and managing director is the same person. This CII recommendation was later on incorporated in SEBI s Kumar Mangalam Birla Committee Report. The Kumar Mangalam Birla Committee Report recommendation led SEBI to include
  • 6. College Athletes Should Not Be Paid The word college is defined by Dictionay.com (2014) as an indepdant institution of higher learning . This definition is focused around education and the higher learning that individuals receive when they attend a college institution. It is not centered around, nor does it mention athletics. College athletes should not be paid a salary for their participation in collegesports, the purpose of college is educationand not athletics. A Student s Relationship To School And Athletics College athletes arguably possess a similar and often equivalent skill set to that of a professional athlete and may even train just as hard as a professional athlete. However, a college students relationship to athletics is no different than a high school student who participates in their schools athletics program. These young athletes participate in their chosen sport without any expectation of monetary compensation in return. In fact, many athletes at non professional levels pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars annually to participate in their chosen extracurricular sporting activities (Alderman, 2013). This is their choice and they are not financially compensated for it. These athletes play for the joy of the sport, life lessons and in some cases, the hopes of one day becoming a professional athlete. According to the research of Devin G Pope and Jaren C Pope (2009) some would suggest that; because schools receive a variety of indirect benefits generated by athletic programs, such as
  • 7. Religion And Its Impact On Society Even before there were millions of copies of bibles in circulation religion has been a part of society that has always been there. But is this idea of rules and regulations enforced by a belief system really helpful to society? In a world without religion would there be less wars, hatred, and discrimination? With so many people involved or affiliated with religionit is important to explore deeper into the negative impact that religion has on society and try to make the world a better place with information that will help all. At a personal level religion fulfills the role of accounting for a lack of knowledge and offering hope in the face of difficulties while also offering a sense of belonging. To identify with a religiousideology, and call it the only truth and way, leads to the tremendously negative consequences of hatred, racism, and all kinds of violence. These consequences of a world in disarray due to religion far outweigh the small personal fulfillments. As Steven Weinberg, an American physicist and Nobel laureate states, With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion. Although religion claims to lead people towards truth, light, and happiness, in reality it actually leads them in the opposite direction. The most popular argument against religion in society is the fact that religion leads to war and violence which then in turn results in poverty,
  • 8. Spiritual Authority The Lack of Spiritual Authority in The Rape of the Lock 18th century society deemed their morality upon social victories and external consumption rather than internal graciousness. In Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock Canto II, he depicts spiritual beings to uphold the same materialistic belief as they only protect Belinda s external beauties. Their anticipation for something bad to happen, yet focus upon mundane items indicate the lack of higher authority they possess. When Ariel commands the Sylphs to their posts, he fails to recognize the protection of Belinda s heart and soul and instead focuses on her earrings and watch. Thus adding to the uncontrollable nature of humans and their psychological desires for sex that is often repressed by the Catholic churches emphasis on purity and virginity. He is indirectly ridiculing the authority of Roman Catholics and the heart of their beliefs, pressed upon them by the Vatican. Pope also includes the missing direction of the Fates as a motif to indicate the destiny of humans that is ultimately controlled by the individuals choices rather than spiritual protection. In saying that if the Fates break Diana s law of chastity, Pope is emphasizing the lack of control these mythological creatures have over the protection of Belinda s purity and

Introduction Among the various disasters in the world, earthquakes have caused lots of losses and damage to structures and lifelines. Thus, evaluating the seismic responses of such structures is essential to disaster risk reduction programs. In disaster planning, buildings are the important structures which should be prepared with strongly resistance to earthquake. Myanmar is earthquake prone area and one of the major active faults is Sagaing fault which is known to have produced significant earthquakes in the past. The history of the region indicates that there was a strong possibility of major earthquakes occurrence and suffered immense losses of life and property. Yangon, the biggest city in Myanmar, is located near Sagaing fault and many earthquakes with various intensities occurred frequently. Over the past three decades, urbanization in Yangon has been rapidly increasing and most of the buildings in congested downtown of Yangon is reinforced concretebuildings. • 11. Technological Advancements In Criminal Investigations If this study was conducted today I believe that the conclusions would be somewhat the same as the findings back then. With the technological advancements of cell phones, Global Positioning Systems, the 911 system and computers today, police response times have been greatly reduced. This allows for the greater possibility of capturing an offender at or nearby the scene. This also allows for not only police response times to be decreased but also response times for other first responders that provide lifesaving first aid. With the advancements in forensics the greater chance of catching a criminal after the fact has been greatly improved which allows for the police to be more reactive when a crimehas finally been discovered. With police departments designing precincts in a more efficient manner and utilizing Intelligence Led Policing, Predictive Policing or Compstat to properly allocate resources provides for preventative patrols to be accomplished while also being able to be reactive in nature.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the time when the study was completed, criminals were in fear of the police capturing them during the commission of a crime. However today, criminals are much more brazen in committing crimes even with police presence. With the ease for criminals to obtain a firearm, many more criminals possess a firearm during the commission of crimes and are not afraid to use that firearm against police. Even though preventative patrols are still being accomplished in policing today, the findings of the study that preventative patrols do not reduce the amount of criminal activity would be much the same as back

Whether tis nobler to have a sleek modern look Or embrace classic lines and the additonal support of pretty brackets The bottom line is corbels are dramatic, but are they overly so like Shakespeare? Or are they addtional support to display your prized posessions? The word corbel comes from the Latin word corbellus or raven, which refers to the bracket that juts out like a beak. A corbel is a piece of stone, wood or metal that goes under a mantel, arch or any overhang to carry addtional weight. But they also can be ornate, richly carved pieces of functional artwork. In classical architecture corbels were used to adorn the balconies of Italy and France in the 16th century, and the Paris trained designers of Beaux Arts architecture were downright corbel crazy.... • 14. Adaptive Behavior Essay Adaptive behaviour has been an integral although sometimes unstated, part of the long history of mental retardation and its definition. In the 19th century, mental retardation was recognized principally in terms of a number of factors that included awareness and understanding of surroundings, ability to engage in regular economic and social life, dependence on others, the ability to maintain one s basic health and safety, and individual responsibility (Brockley, 1999). The assessment of adaptive behaviour became a formal part of the diagnostic nomenclature for mental retardation with the publication of the 1959 manual of the American Association of Mental Deficiency (Heber, 1959, distributed in 1961). The 1961 manual (Heber, 1961) discussed adaptive behaviour with respect to maturation, learning, and social adjustment. This framework, reiterated in 1983, described adaptive behaviour limitations consisting of significant limitations in an individual s effectiveness in meeting the standards of maturation, learning, personal independence, or social maturity that are expected for his or her age level and cultural group, as determined by clinical assessment and, usually, standardized scales (Grossman, 1983). The 1983 manual characterized the tasks or activities encompassed by adaptive behavior (and, social competence) as: In infancy and early childhood: sensorimotor development, communication skills, self help skills, socialization, and interaction with others; In
  • 15. Emmanuel Kant Research Paper Before critical theory was fully developed and defined, many philosophers played a part influencing future thinkers in the way we critique reason, ourselves, society, and ultimately how we can strive towards autonomy and freedom. These four German historical figures were: Emmanuel Kant, J.G. Fichte, G.W.F. Hegel and Karl Marx. Emmanuel Kant was born in 1724 and died in 1804 in Konigsberg, Prussia. He was one of nine children and grew up in a strict religious household. From the age of 16, Kant spent most of his years in life at the University of Konigsberg as a student and completing his own research. As a youth, he studied philosophy, sciences, and the works of Isaac Newton. Although Kant is known for his philosophical contributions, he made major contribution to astronomy in the 1750 s and 60 s by theorizing about our solar system and the Earth s rotation. Kant became interested in the structure and limits to our own knowledge. Three critiques were written between 1781 and 1790: Critique of Pure Reason, Critique of ... Life Of A Multi Sport Athlete There is a time in the life of a busy multi sport athlete (and especially the longer, time constrained, endurance athlete) when you must eat, it must be a complete meal, and it must be quick. Your body can only support high volume training, proper performance, and immune system strength for a limited period of time if all your quick meals consist of microwaved meals in a box, gas station trail mix, and even all organic food bars. You ll eventually crash. So you must make a habit of regularly eating fast healthy meals and wholesome foods without heavy amounts of preservatives, salts, sweeteners, and synthetic chemicals, and you must to figure out how to do it without huge amounts of time and preparation needed. On that note, I m going to give you my top ten meals that I rely on when I need good, nutritious food fast. That is, when I ve finished a big ride and have to be at work in 10 minutes, when I ve gotten back from the gym and need to be in ben within an hour, or when I have just a few minutes to make a dish to fuel a workout. Each meal includes a complete blend of protein and carbs for recovery and performance needs, and while none of these quick healthy meals are as tasty as filet mignon, lobster ravioli, or a loaded chopped vegetable salad, they will fulfill the physiological needs of the busy multi sport athlete. These are all relatively cheap eats with ingredients that are budget friendly. Here are the top 10 meals that I personally make and have ingrained

In a usual twist, Roussel Uclaf did eventually release the drug after government pressure. Did you find the resolution to the situation understandable and predictable? I found the resolution to be understandable, but not predictable. Releasing RU486 would have been seen as Roussel Uclaf consciously choosing a side in the debate. Not releasing the drug has a greater chance of being understood as avoiding a controversial issue rather than choosing sides. Americ The Great Wagon Road People came to America to get away from Britain rule, so when Britain governed most of the thirty two colonies, thirteen colonies decided to rebel against the crown during 1775. America was growing fairly big with 2.5 million people and ninety percent lived as rural farmers. In addition, America became a big melting pot of different races. For example, Germans were six percent of the population, and they mostly lived in Pennsylvania. Scots Irish were seven percent of the population, and they settled along the Great Wagon Road. Then, five percent of the multicolored population consisted of French Huguenots, Welsh, Dutch, Swedes, Jews, Irish, Swiss, and Scots Highlanders. America was the land of opportunity, and anyone who was willing to work could go from rags to riches. Class differences emerged as a small group of aristocrats had all the power, and the black slaves were the lowest on the social ladder. It was best to be a clergyman or a physician. However, physicians were not that well trained and not highly esteemed. The first medical school opened in 1765. Unfortunately, this didn t prepare them for the plague, small pox. Also, if you were a lawyer, you were assumed to be nosey scumbags. The social contracttheory is the idea that a human s political obligations and/or morals are based upon one s surroundings and the agreements they form and construct where they live. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Income and poverty are strongly linked. The first assumption, therefore is, that with an increase in the national living wage, resulting in more income, poverty is likely to go down. This, however, does not mean it is a cure for poverty. The national living wage is for everyone and even though this seems to be a fair concept. There will still be people which are not as well of as others. Much more has to be done in order to decrease poverty than a 50 pence increase in the national living wage. The increase might have been announced with good intentions but one principle is fundamental in the amelioration of poverty: those who are equally in need should be helped equally. (Stigler, 1946: 364) While higher wages could be seen as some type of help many of the workers benefiting from them are not even classified as poor which means that poverty is not as directly affected as employment or productivity. Another factor that will not benefit those living in poverty is the increase in prices that is assumed to come with the new national living wage. This is due to increased demand for goods and services as well as producers trying to balance out the additional money they now have to spend on wages. Which leads to the difference between those living in poverty while having a job and those who are not employed. The extra 50 pence earned every hour will give those being employed the possibility to make up for the higher prices and might even help them out of poverty. People moving out of poverty could also benefit the government. During the financial year 2013/2014 the UK spent ВЈ251 billion on welfare. (ONS Digital, 2015) From April 2016, when the workers will earn more this could mean there might be less additional support needed from the government and at the same time more money available to the government to invest elsewhere such as in education or

  • 36. Power Rangers Character Analysis Power Rangers (2017), directed by Dean Israelite, has near unilaterally been hailed as an extraordinary testament to the modern wave of diversity positivity. In this latest installment, the crew of superhero teenagers features representation from not only a multitude of races, but also the first openly queer superhero in a movie, ever. And while the popular superhero Deadpool, in his comics, is openly pansexual, it has yet to be mentioned in the films. This movie was also the first to portray an autistic superhero, and did so accurately without falling into common tropes. Power Rangers had a lot of firsts in it, and as a result was one of the most popular superhero movies of 2017. Firstly, not to discredit the original American series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Adapted from the Japanese live action television series, it too was ahead of their its with heterogeneity in regards to race and gender. However, there were many issues with the portrayal of the characters. For instance, the yellow ranger was Asian American, and the black ranger was African American. In addition, the yellow ranger was continuously trying to center herself, and when she fought, she would do so with a stereotypical Asian accent, which was not present in her normal speaking voice. Also, the black ranger spoke in slang and fought in a hip hop karate style, where he would breakdance to defeat his enemies (Blay 2017) This is all not to say that the strides they made for diversity and

Q.Identify several possible drivers of salary costs for use in estimating a salary cost function. Using one of these cost drivers, apply the High Low technique to estimate the salary cost function for the Delta Airlines. What driver did you select and why? How would Delta use this function to forecast costs? What are the advantages of this technique? The disadvantages? A. Some of the possible drivers of salary cost are Number or Departures, Revenue Ton Miles, Revenue Miles scheduled, Revenue passenger miles and there are countless more you could use. High low method for revenue Ton Miles (High 2,369, low 1,580) by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, this method only uses one variable but shows us the best variable to use. If we use multiple regression models we would be able to get a more accurate result. 3.The three drivers I chose were 1.) available Ton miles 2.) Number of Departures 3.)Revenue Passengers Miles These three drivers had the best R square values and that is why I chose them. This method is a considerable upgrade from all of the other methods and gives us the best available outcome. This outcome takes multiple variables and combines them into one equation. The multiple regressions R square(.8615) is higher than the single regression so there is some conflict with the method. 4. For the questions 1 3 we found out a couple different cost functions that could be useful for Delta when predicting salaries for 2003 and 2004. The multiple regressions may be most reliable considering it uses multiple variables, but the single R square is better than multiple regressions. 5. I used the Average Ton Miles as well for Jet Blue because it had the lowest R square for the previous example. (202,610 60,246)/(49 16)=142,364,000/33,000,000= 4.314. This doesn t tell us a lot in direct correlation because it only takes one variable and it takes the two extremes of that variable. 6. I think It reasonable to assume that Delta can expect right around 24(number in thousands) for revenue passengers emplaned in the
  • 38. Dark Matter, By Fritz Zwicky Dark Matter was first proposed by Fritz Zwicky in the 1930 s when he observed the motions of galaxies and he noticed that the amount of visible objects could not account for the observations he made. There had to be some invisible mass holding these galaxies together. It is known that 25% of our universe is made up dark matter versus 4% of the visible matter we know and interact with every day. The leading candidates for dark matter are MACHOs and WIMPS. Gravitational lensing is one of the ways we can infer the presence dark matter, since we cannot see it directly. With the discovery of dark matter, the standard modelof physics no longer answers all the questions. For that, we need another model, called supersymmetry. Dark matter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This didn t make any sense as we would expect orbits to be slower the further from the center they are located (The University of Texas McDonald Observatory). With the discovery of dark matter, and discovering the missing mass, the thought was that the universe would end in a Big Crunch. However, that is not the case because something else is causing the expansion of the universe at an accelerating rate, this is known as Dark Energy. We ve also been able to measure the cosmic microwave background radiation from the after effects of the big bang. The microwave radiation tells us the composition of the universe, including that there must have been dark matter (Powell, 2013). The two leading culprits of dark matter are MACHOs, or MAssive Compact Halo Objects, and WIMPS, or Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (Newman, 2009). MACHOs are baryonic matter, meaning they consist of protons and neutrons, which include black holes, brown dwarfs, and neutron stars (Newman, 2009). These objects produce a phenomena known as gravitational lensing (Goldsmith). Gravitational lensing happens when objects, like a black hole, brown dwarfs, or neutron star, pass in front of a star or a galaxy and cause light itself to bend. That is, from Earth we observe a black hole and directly behind that is a galaxy, the light emitted from the galaxy gets bent around the black hole. There is almost a halo like appearance around the black hole due to the distortion of

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One solution, for the primary problem of Mike missing meetings and being left out of the group, would be to explain the situation to Professor Sandra. Christine could have approached Sandra to explain that Mike had been very distant and not cooperating with meetings. There are limited things that Sandra could have done; however at least she would have been informed and understood. The pros to approaching the professor could have been to possibly get Mike on the right track and take the responsibility off the team. The professor could have made arrangements or provided guidance for Mike if he explained his problems about class, work, and his girlfriend early on. They may have been granted an extension or could have had a group meeting during class. The cons of this solution would be that Mike would think Christine was a tattle tale and he could get angry at the group and become more distant. Professor Sandra could have also told the group to find a way to work it out and/or pick up his slack. A group project means that each member performs their part, so approaching the professor would have informed Sandra of the lack of effort on Mike s behalf and that everyone else is participating and doing their part. On the other hand, another solution would be to actually evaluate and use Mike s notes and information even though he was

War is peace, freedom is slavery, Ignorance is strength (Orwell 7) this is one of the very many slogans that were used to control society in George Orwell s piece 1984. Dystopian literature is a futuristic universe that is oppressive and uses bureaucratic, totalitarian, and/or technological control to control society. In Orwell s Dystopian book 1984, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr s short story Harrison Bergeron , and Andrew Niccol s film In time, there are many examples of a Dystopiais that contain a lot of comparisons between the stories. Dystopian literature whether it be novel, film, or short story focuses on similar characteristics and things. A similarity that these three dystopias have in common is the time setting. All of these stories are set to be in a futuristic time, or at least a time that was the future from them. For instance, Orwell s book 1984 was written in 1948 as it stated on crisesmagazine.com George Orwell Wrote 1984 in 1948 , but since it wasn t 1984, or anywhere near, so at the time it was considered the future. In Vonnegut s short story Harrison Bergeron the author clearly gives evidence that they are ahead of time when he writes The year was 2081 and everybody was finally equal (Vonnegut 1). the story is set to be 66 years ahead of the current year. In Niccol s dystopian movie In time, the exact year is not clearly stated, but in the plot summary written by Claudio Carvalho they mention that it was set to be in futuristic times as it says In a

Dr. Stewart dismissed that technology was not addictive: Technology is a drug... it makes you feel as if you lost your sense of things. As adolescents mature, they become less active in their family if they are influenced by technology, whereas if not influenced by technology they would be more active in family affairs. She notes my personal experience and maturation with electronics; because of my rural upcoming and care for nature electronics have less of an impact on myself. Just as professional sports players spend the majority of their time training and playing, I experiment with various electronic devices and research them. Nor am I naive. I will be the first to admit that slavery was wrong. It was an atrocious mistake of our early nation. An early step away from that, segregation through concepts of separate by equal , was also wrong. • 46. Dualist Theory Of Dualism We all know that everything in the world isn t perfect; everything essentially has its own flaws. The scientific understanding of our world has been ever changing, not because we are unintelligent but because as time continues, we gather more information and finding that correct past mistakes. The same goes for the theory of dualism. There are gaps in this theory, but they have the potential of being found. It might take more time and more discoveries in order to find these gaps; these gaps, however, do not define whether the theory is true or false. Now how could something nonphysical have affect on the physical world around it? This question is one of the major fault in the theory of dualism. For something to physically move, a force has to act upon an object, hence the formula mass divided by acceleration equals force. The mind, believed by dualist, is a nonphysical thing that exists and has affect on the world. However how is this possible if the mind has no mass nor can produce a force. This is one of the main arguments physicalists has against the dualist. Physicalists believe that because an object needs the ability to create a force in order to have affect on reality, the mind has to be apart of the body, a physical thing. Materialists, unlike dualist, believe that human beings are purely physical beings, and that any mental state must be some state of the physical body. Materialism has none of the problems of interactionism... Unlike interactionism, it does

Other of the most surprising things about the movie is Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron). Introduction Burgess and Draper argue coercive patterns of family interaction represent the principal causal pathway that connects ecological instability to violence within families. They maintain this raises the possibility that some of the common correlates of such violence are themselves reactions to sudden or chronic ecological instability. For example, alcoholism, depression, and anxiety may be responses to ecological stresses in the family, such as loss of employment, excessive financial debt, or divorce. (Ohlin, 87) Economic instability can also be a direct cause for child maltreatment. As resources dwindle, Burgess and Draper suggest the survival of the fittest theory which implies that if there is only enough food for three people and there are four members in a household, it would be a waste to give the food to a member that is not economically viable or unlikely to survive even with the food. This is a very barbaric principle and does not reflect the cultural norms of today s American society. Undoubtedly, in some places, this may occur but the maltreatment of the Hughes children did not come in this form. II. Emotional Reactions As the social or family structure is changing, Burgess and Draper suggest a few common feelings that men in particular may encounter. The first feeling is anxiety. Change brings uncertainty especially if the person in question is not directly influencing the change. Having someone inferior start a chain reaction that takes away direct control, can be particularly debilitating to someone who has low self esteem. This is one of the most common personality traits for abusers like Mickey Hughes. (Ohlin, 89) Burgess and Draper also say that wife batterers have an intrusive style , easily angered, display extreme jealousy, fear of abandonment and violent out busts in response to personal loss of authority.
