Essays In Mla Format
Writing an essay in MLA format can be both challenging and demanding. The Modern Language
Association (MLA) has established a set of guidelines for formatting academic papers, and
adhering to these rules requires meticulous attention to detail. From the proper citation of sources
to the correct formatting of headers, margins, and font styles, every aspect needs to be carefully
considered.
One of the difficulties lies in mastering the intricacies of MLA citation. The format requires a
precise method of citing sources in the text and creating a corresponding Works Cited page.
Understanding the nuances of citing different types of sources, such as books, articles, and
online resources, can be a daunting task for those unfamiliar with the MLA guidelines.
Moreover, the essay's structure must also align with MLA standards. This includes the
appropriate use of headings, page numbers, and line spacing. The intricate details, like indenting
paragraphs and aligning citations, may seem minor but play a crucial role in achieving a polished
and well-formatted essay.
Another challenge is staying updated with the latest MLA guidelines, as they may undergo
revisions over time. This requires writers to stay vigilant and adapt to any changes in citation
rules or formatting recommendations.
Despite the challenges, mastering MLA format is a valuable skill for academic writing. It not
only ensures that the essay is presented in a professional and organized manner but also
demonstrates the writer's commitment to scholarly standards.
In conclusion, tackling an essay in MLA format requires a thorough understanding of the
guidelines and a keen eye for detail. From citation rules to formatting specifications, each
element demands careful consideration. However, with practice and a commitment to learning
the intricacies of MLA, writers can develop the skills needed to produce well-crafted and
properly formatted essays.

school of fish just like his own hiding in the shade of rocks and weeds. As he asks
them to come out and explore the sea with him they tell him that they are too scared
of the gigantic fish. Swimmy soon comes up with a genius plan to overcome the
gigantic fish.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The favorite part of the book is when swimmy comes up with the idea that if all the
little fish swim together them they will appear as the biggest fish in the sea. This
book is great for young readers because it teaches the readers about the importance
of teamwork and creativity. Leo Lionni s simple words make the book excellent for
young readers to understand. The illustrations also by Leo Lionni are like no other as
they are simple, elegant but still different than other illustrators. His illustrations in
Swimmy are so natural. Teachers can use the beautiful illustrations to do art projects

History of Ict
History of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the Philippines
The Philippines connected to the internet in 1994 via the Philippine Internet
Foundation (PHNet), the first internet service provider in the country. Penetration
increased slowly until 2005, when Executive Order 109 was enacted calling for the
expansion of telecommunication services to underserved areas, which in turn
promoted competition in the information and communications technology (ICT)
sector. Internet use further accelerated after 2008 with the entry of a number of
industry players, although the use of mobile phones has remained more widespread.
Penetration of such technologies is higher in urban areas where middle to upper
income classes are concentrated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many local ISPs go through the PLDT because it owns the 10,000 kilometer
Domestic Fiber Optic Network (DFON) connected to several international cable
routes and has the highest capacity in the country at 250 Gbps. PLDT also owns or
manages several international cable landings in the country. Further, the country s
telecommunications industry in the last decade has been characterized by mergers
and acquisitions amid the country s market liberalization initiatives during the 1980s
and the absence of anti trust laws. By the end of 2010, three privately owned telecom
companies were dominant: PLDT/Smart, Globe Telecommunications, Inc., and
Digitel. With PLDT s
recent acquisition of majority shares in Digitel, the company now controls 70 percent
of the country s ICT sector.
To enter the ICT industry in the Philippines, companies must go through a two stage
process. First, they must obtain a congressional license that involves parliamentary
hearings and the approval of both the upper and lower houses. Second, they need to
apply for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) from the NTC.
The constitution limits foreign entities to only 40 percent ownership of a business to
be established in the country. Internet service is currently classified as a value added
service and is therefore subject to fewer regulatory requirements compared to mobile
and fixed phone services.
Jamaica Research Paper
Jamaica is a beauty Island nation in the Caribbean seas. It is popular as a tropical
vacation destination spot. Many people are lured to this island because of it
beaches, weather, and food. As a Miamian many of my friends and neighbors know
Jamaica as home. The food and culture has been integrated in this melting pot called
Miami. I could remember very earlier in my life trying to cook some authentic
Jamaican food. Jamaican food is very rich in seasoning, spices, and flavor. The
Caribbeanwas the second week of international cuisine production class. I was most
excited for that week because it s the part of international cuisine I am most familiar.
The country itself has many outside influences that make the food and culture what it

Christopher Columbus reached Jamaica in 1494 on a voyage to America. It was
also documented that he was stranded in Jamaica for a year while on another trip.
Christopher Columbus eventually took the Island for Spain and the Spaniard
controlled Jamaica for a time. However in 1655 Great Britain conquered Jamaica
from Spain. Many of the Spaniard hid and settled on the Island. Numerous
Spaniard and Portuguese came to Jamaica after being expelled from there own
countries. After being banned from France many Jews came to Jamaica. By this
time Spaniards had already made slaves of the Indians inhabitance, which proved
to be much for the Indians. The slaves die off during those times creating a demand
for new slaves. Many of the African slaves were brought in during the 1700 s slave
trade. Jamaica became a leader in sugar export using slave labor. However when
slavery was abolished many Chinese and Asian Indians were brought in as
laborers. The history of Jamaica makes up the population today. Jamaica is mainly
made up of black people who descended from Africa. Second largest group in
Jamaica are Asian, and lastly white Europeans. The national language spoke in
Jamaica is English. However Jamaicans also speak a broken English called Patois.
Patois is actually English Creole language. This language is now known all over
the world because of the influence it has in music. Patois has been used to create a
Jamaican genre of music called Reggae. One of the most famous Reggae musician

Marketing Plan For The Company
Introduction
Lululemon is a company that has based itself around a value proposition of ethical
production, healthy living and quality athletic gear designed to encourage and
support an active lifestyle (Lululemon, 2014). Unfortunately for the company in
the last year it has come under fire for a run of clothing that was far below their
standard quality, and was in fact recalled for being too sheer (Peterson, 2013). This
incident was exacerbated by CEO Chip Wilson s comments that effectively blamed
the issue on the body types of their customers (Forbes, 2014). This series of events
served to isolate the brand from two of its critical strengths, namely the positive,
encouraging push towards healthier living and the socially conscious production of
high quality goods. In order to address this issue we are focusing our marketing plan
on three specific areas: Focusing on emphasizing the realignment of our executive to
reflect the values of the corporation, continuing to increase the production of micro
marketed goods, and increasing our client engagement by promoting yoga events in
local communities in order to re establish our position as a healthy, active and body
positive firm.

The Constitution And The Texas Constitution
A constitution is an accumulation of principles and rules that establishes the
character of a government. Additionally, by showing the authority each part of the
government holds, it is describing the organization and regulation of the government
and how a society must conform. The Texas constitution has been reformed on
multiple occasions and is troublesome to amend due to it being highly restrictive and
detailed. The process on how to amend the Texas constitution, the attempts and failure
of the constitutional reform in the 1970 s and why Texas should adopt an easily
accessible and flexible constitution are the primary focal points that will be addressed
throughout this essay. Texas, amongst many of the state constitutions, has had a great
deal of proposals to amend the state constitution. Reminiscing back to 1876 when the
Texas constitution was adopted, there have been six hundred and sixty six
prospective proposals to amending the constitution. However, of the six hundred and
sixty six proposals, four hundred and eighty four have been ratified leaving the
remaining few defeated by the Texas voters. Furthermore amending the Texas
constitution, according to Article 17 of the Texas constitution involves applying a
two step process. The process starts off by obtaining a two thirds vote from each
house in the legislature and a majority vote by the voters. The two thirds vote consists
of having one hundred members from the House of Representatives and twenty one

Accessing the Internet throughout the World
Everyone in the world can access the internet now. People can use different devices
to access the internet now. Whether you are in China, Europe, Africa, or the United
States, you have access to the internet in some way. This paper will be talking about
the use of internet access around the world. Also, areas that do not have internet
access or have low amount of access to the internet. This paper will also talk about
broadband that are in some areas.
The paper will start with a little history of how the internet first started and how it
continues to develop. Next, will be broadband provided in the United States and
other areas. Then, will be the use of internet in the U.S. and rural areas. After that is
the use of internet using devices. Last, will the ethical analysis.
2. BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE
The first internet started about 50 years ago in the United States. It started out as a
government weapon for researchers to use to share data and communicate with each
other. During the 1950s, the Soviet Union lunched the first satellite that was made by
man into orbit. The satellite was called Sputnik. The only thing it did was traveling
around the earth sending radio transmissions. After that, American scientist decided
to focus more on technology and science to further advance their technology.
Different corporations decided to use their government funded money and place it in
scientific research and development. Even the federal government used their own
money to create
A Research On Energy Beyond Our Body s Metabolism
Energized, we tackled the research with fresh enthusiasm. Lieutenant Rice produced
his mobile and manipulated it. Within hours a team of top scientists joined us in our
basement. They reviewed the videos of our first session and examined the Psionic
Egg outputs. They devised a series of tests designed to address aspects we hadn t
considered. They crafted a new series of tests intended to produce unequivocal
scientific validity.
They connected instrumentation to our bodies to determine energy and oxygen
consumption. We ran for hours on treadmills as instruments measured our metabolism
. We learned to tap our in the zone mode at will, instead of waiting for a burst of
adrenaline.
The effort continued for weeks. We confirmed the existence of non physical, Psionic
Energy beyond doubt. The scientists agreed it was a reasonable scientific theory.
They went to great lengths to exclude potential flaws in the testing.
We failed to tap energy beyond our body s metabolism. We suspected a vast reservoir
of Dark Energy awaits our discovery. Yet we accounted for every Joule of energy
expended for in the calories consumed.
A surprising conclusion about non physical energy emerged. It is horribly inefficient.
Fitz could hoist immense weights, his muscular effort augmented by the mental. That
mental boost came at a terrific cost.
Testing revealed the calories consumed by mental force exceeded muscles. In fact

Research Paper On Amantine Lucile-Aurore Dupin
Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin was born on July 1st, 1804 in Paris, France. She
was a French romantic writer who is widely known for her rustic novels. She was
raised in Nohant, the country home of her grandmother, which is where she
developed her love for the countryside, which was illustrated in most of her works.
She married Casmir Dudevant in 1822, but soon got tired of his lack of sensitivity
after a few years. She developed a platonic relationship with a young magistrate and
then, a passionate affair with a neighbour. She moved to Paris in 1831, where her
friend Henri de Latouche, the director of the newspaper Le Figaro, accepted some of
the articles she wrote with Jules Sandeau (under the pseudonym Jules Sand).
Amantine adopted a new pseudonym,
The American Cancer Society and the Relay For Life
On April 9th, 2014, The American Cancer Society sponsored Relay For Life in
support of people who have battled cancer, who have lost loved ones, and who will
continue to fight against the disease. This event was suitable for our Tobacco team
because it allowed us to educationally campaign the harmful dangers that are
correlated with smoking or chewing tobacco. After several meetings of preparing,
our group was able to attend Relay For Life and achieve effective tobacco awareness
activities, interactions, results, and analytical data. Beginning with our first activity,
Dear Tobacco, our idea was to get students to actively participate in voicing their
opinions/ experiences on the use of tobacco whether it is positive or negative by

Every day household items such as, cleaning products, hair dye, nail polish remover,
candle wax, and many more, were displayed on our table to show our audience what

the end of our presentation, we calculated all the raffle tickets for the contest and
found 67 in total participated in the activity. Afterwards, the person with the
closest guess of 531 was announced the winner and awarded the 50 dollar Visa gift
card. Next was our third activity, Breathe Easy, where our main goal was to have
individuals simulate respiration of a smoker by participating in physical activities
for ten to fifteen seconds and then, while holding down their nose, try breathing
through a straw. Preparing for the activity required a pack of straws, plastic bag
for the disposal of used straws, and high energy. Our group found it most
challenging trying to get people to participate because it involved being singled
out and stared at by the rest of Relay For Life. In order to make our audience feel
more comfortable and less shy, we had to actively involve ourselves. Whenever a
group member suggested our activity we would offer to participate with them by
doing jumping jacks together. As soon as one person did it, then someone else
walking by would become curious and stop to ask. Eventually, it became
Effects Of Alcoholism On The American Medical Association
Assignment: Literature review
Topic: Addiction to alcohol
Instructor: Vanda Wark
Literature Review
Definition of alcoholism: According to the American medical association alcoholism
is a chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial and environmental factors influencing
development and manifestations.
Alcoholism has had a tremendous impact on the human condition and its relationship
to society.
The evolution of alcoholism, its behavior and quality of life impact will be
addressed; as well as treatments and fiscal impact in the literature review.
Alcoholism is a complex disorder with many pathways leading to its development.
Genetic and other biological factors are likely involved in the emergence of alcohol
dependence, along with cognitive, behavioral, temperament, psychological, and
sociocultural factors. Alcohol use patterns, including alcohol abuse and alcohol
dependence, are familial in nature (cf. Heath et al.,
1997; cf. Kendler, Heath, Neale, Kessler, Eaves, 1992; Hesselbrock, 1995). That is,
similar styles of alcohol use and the presence of alcoholism are often found within the
same family, running from parent to child and across multiple generations of
biologically related individuals.
However, many other traits or behaviors, such as religious or political affiliation,
which have little or no biological basis and, therefore, cannot be under heavy genetic
control, also run in families. While genetic and other biological factors cannot fully

Lots of companies can prevent frauds from happening; unfortunately some
companies do not know when to detect frauds. By maintaining some approaches we
can reach our goal of being fraud free. The first approach, is by finding the fraud
before claims are paid, that happened by combining business rules, predictive
analytics and social network analysis to uncover hidden relationships. We can also
detect frauds by reducing false positives, with an advanced scoring engine that uses
independent and combined scores including scoring of associated networks. We also
have a quickly uncovering organized fraud rings, using link analysis and visualization
technique to expose hidden relationships among entities.
A Reflection On My Life
So much of my life is built around distracting from my endometriosis pain. I watch
TV or listen to music while reading. If I engage my mind enough then I can ignore
the pain. It is only partially successful.
I realized, as I walked to the library, that distraction is how I ve always gotten
through exercise. I don t like to sweat. It is uncomfortable, although I am working on
that distaste. Exercise has always caused pain in my ankles and I ve never been good
at it. Today, I walked in the heat as fast as I could manage to the beat of my Lady
Gaga Pandora channel. I used the beat of Pitbull s Shake Senora to move faster
and faster. By the time I made it to the library I was dripping with sweat and my
pants were sticking to me. If there were such a thing as tiny men, they could have
slid down my cleavage like a slip and slide.
This is in total contrast to my yoga experience. Every move in yoga has to be
thoughtfully carried out. For one, my balance, as it stands, is horrible. Some of
the poses require me to be on one foot or one knee. I have trouble with standing on
two feet or balancing on both knees. I am learning and practicing over and over,
but I seriously have to concentrate. I have to feel every part of my body and
muscles I didn t know existed. Normally when exercising, I would try to ignore
pain in my muscles or work through it, using the adage no pain, no gain or more
likely I d give up. With yoga, if there is pain I am doing something wrong. Not only
do I have to
Why Do Chinese Immigrants Move To Canada
The Railway Connecting a Country
Columbia became Canada sixth province in 1871 (Library and Archives Canada,
2009). An essential point in persuading the province to enter the Confederation was
a promise to build the railway; this railway would connect to the Pacific coast as
well as the rest of the country. Cutting through the Rocky Mountains was one of the
most difficult parts of building the Canadian Pacific Railway. At the time, there were
several reasons to employee Chinese immigrant workers. One of great importance
was the fact that Chinese immigrant workers were paid lower wages than Caucasian
workers. By using the Chinese immigrant workers, the estimated reduction in cost for
building the railway ranged between $3 million and $5 million. ... Show more content

With the amount of discrimination shown historically against immigrants of Chinese
decent, it would be expected that the Chinese would be disenfranchised with their
status in life; and in turn work outside of the law to get the advancement he/she
deserved (Chapin, 2012). However, this is not the case as the Chinese appear to be
content to keep their heads down and just do the work. The Chinese describe this
attitude as renming , meaning one who acknowledges his/her fate. As the Chinese
immigrant population is approaching a twenty percent share, the crime rate per capita
has decreased annually since 1991; when immigration was at its lowest (Zhang,
Fad Diet Is The Weight Watchers Program
In today s growing world, fad diets seem to be all the rage. As obesity rates are

of the population obese, many people are trying everything that they can to lose

Aristotle s Philosophy Of Nature
Aristotle was an influential Greek philosopher and during his time he made
significant and profound contributions to the world through his teachings. Teachings
such as his philosophy of nature, mathematics ethics, biology and art. Through many
of his teachings and influential contributions in today s society now, we now use
what he taught and evolved from there as the years go by.
In Aristotle s life time he transformed the human knowledge that we have now.
Giving it all new meanings and purpose. During his teaching years there were over
two hundred of his works in which only 31 still remain. In these writings of is
lectures and notes included the things that in today s society we reference to in
textbooks and the definitions and of what his teachings were, such as; nature,
mathematics, ethics, biology and art. Those few teachings, the philosophy of nature

happiness in your life. Aristotle being the father of zoology, his contribution to
natural history and the study of life. And lastly, art, showing us the imitation of life
through Aristotle s eyes. He gave us the starting ground of the information we have
now. What we know now is because of what he started before us many years ago.
When Aristotle taught about the philosophy of nature he referred to a number of
things such as motion, natural phenomenon,
Comparing Boy Scouts And Street Gangs

have similarities in how they are made up. Two of these groups are Boy Scouts and
street gangs. Although the Boy Scouts are a constructive organization and street
gangs are generally quite destructive, they have practices that are similar. Both sell
different products, have some sort of role for the women that are involved, and have
some sort of rank system. Although they both have various products that they offer
for sale, these products take different forms. Boy Scouts sell things such as Christmas
wreaths and popcorn. These items generally bring happiness to those around them
while the products that gangs sell do not. Gangs sell two very destructive
The Shack By William P. Young
Evangicalism in The Shack Despite its messages in regard to religion, faith, and
God which have touched many people, The Shack by William P. Young has been
denounced by many conservative Christian critics and writers, some who have
gone so far as to call the book heresy (Woodbridge 77). Thus, there is apparently a
difference between how general readers read and interpret the content of this book
and how conservative Christian readers look at it. The divergence of viewpoint on
The Shack represents an interesting matter as such a conflict might be seen as
negatively affecting the popularity of this book, but that has not been the case.
Analysis of The Shack will focus on the the two different reactions to this book,
positive by many personal readers but negative by conservative Christian readers. To
begin with, one has to recognize these two sets of readers bring completely different
backgrounds to their readings of this novel. Of course, the conservative Christian
readers bring their theological education and experiences to their reading. For this
reason, they might be considered to approach the reading of the novel from a
distinctly biased background. Their knowledge and experience is focused on
traditional conservative Christian theologyand teachings. Such theology and
teachings, for the Christian critics of The Shack, have been based on the evangelical
tradition in the U.S. in which the salvation of the individual requires the development

Truman Show Reasoning
In the movie The Truman Show the first way of knowing which is used that I will
explain is Logic. Logic is an immense part of this film. The definition of logic is
reasoning conducted or assessed according to strict principles of validity . Truman
uses reasoning to figure out that someone does not want him to find out the truth
regarding the world he lives in. When he sees a man who resembles his father who
died he believes that its him but soon the man who is father is taken away from
him. He uses logic to believe that something is wrong. Another example to further
enhance this theme is the radio in Truman s car which details his every move
which he was making. At the end of the film Truman logically thought about his
decision to leave and knew that it was a far better reason to live a life free from
barriers and live a life that is truly his own. Furthermore, another way of knowing
that is present in the movie is memory. Memory is what haunts Truman while
thinking of sailing on water as it is what lead to the demise of his father . Memory
allows Truman to reminisce over the past regarding Lauren Garnend (his lost love). It
is due to this memory which permits Truman to figure... Show more content on

Authority is vastly used throughout the film mainly by the creator of the world
which Truman resides in, Christoph. Authority is defined as the power or right to
give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience. A reason enforcing the of the
use of authority is that Christoph commands over every little detail which goes on
in Truman s life mainly from where he can and can not go to who he meets. He has
full charge of what goes on in the show. For example, he controls the weather or
preceding that he controls the sun to rise earlier than usual as he loathes the idea of
Truman knowing the truth which has been hidden from him all
Minnie s Desolation in Susan Glaspell s A Jury of Her Peers
Susan Glaspell, writer of the short story A Jury of Her Peers details the isolated
rural farm house of Minnie Wright and Mr.Wright. Glaspell advocates for the
equality of woman and hopes to warn the readers of the difference between the law
and what is actually right. She conveys the meaning of her theme by describing a
case of a deprived woman, Minnie, who is absolutely isolated from any other kindof
companionship except for her husbands, which is like a raw hard wind that gets to
the bone. (Glaspell 198) Although Minnie isn t present at the time of the
investigation, the setting of her house lets the readers know some of the various
kinds of isolation she deals with for twenty years before being sent to jail. The
different kinds of isolation that Minnie experiences are symbolized in the objects and
information Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters share and discover while being at the scene of
the incident.
Minnie s youthful life was the complete opposite to her current life. Mrs. Hale
spoke of her youth and said she used to wear pretty clothes and be lively when she
was Minnie Foster. (Glaspell 195) But now all Minnie wears is a shabby black
shirt that bore the marks of much making over along with the same gray shawl .
(Glaspell 195) Minnie s lively spirit and style of clothing evoke a stage in her life
where she was joyful and free from a man who didn t represent her. However, now
that she bears her husbands last name, Minnie Wright wears shabby dull clothes that

Industrial Heritage And Its Impact On People s Behavior...
In the dictionary, heritage represents valuable things that have been passed down to
descendants. The behavior of heritage protection is a process of inheritance.
Heritage protection not only conserves precious historical places and objects, but
also provides the authentic environments for people to experience and research
history. The valued and diverse heritage can bring a great impact on people s
behavior and feeling.
Industrial heritage, as an essential part of heritage, has become a booming industry in
Western countries. Industrial heritage is the materialized symbol of the development
of industrialization in each country. In 2003, Nizhny Tagil Charter for the Industrial
Heritage adopted by The International Committee for the Conservation of the
Industrial Heritage. In this charter, the identity of industrial heritage is confirmed.
Industrial heritage not only includes industrial buildings and machinery, but also
contains social activities related to industry.
In China, industrial heritage development is just at the beginning stage. By the year
of 2001, the first industrial heritage was included in the List of National Key Cultural
Relics Protection. The protection of industrial heritage of coal seems to be a new
concept. Coal resource is still a very essential energy for Chinese economic
development currently. However, in the future, it would be replaced by clear and
new energy. Industrial heritage of coal will be the representative of rapid

Mid Term Break By Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney is a poet born in Northern Ireland, County Derry, in 1939. His birth
thus aligned with the beginnings of the second world war and he was exposed to
conflict and sectarian violence, division between Catholics and Protestants, from a
young age. Themes of nationalism, patriotism and British imperialism are often
featured in his works. This is the case in Requiem for the Croppies, a poem published
on the 50th anniversary of the Easter uprising of 1916 which alludes to the 1798
Vinegar Hill Rebellion for independence. Through structure, irony, the creation of a
persona, rhythm, iambic pentameter, rhyme and intricate figurative language, this
text invites us to experience the lives of the Irish rebels fighting for freedom and...

Through the use of emotive language and diction to create a binary opposition,
Heaney highlights his struggles and the themes of coming of age and growing up
by constructing the persona as uncomfortable and awkward. This is done through
the binary opposition of I was embarrassed by old men standing up to shake my
hand and my mother held my hand in hers where the repetition of the diction of
hand creates direct contrast. While in the first example Heaney is being treated
like a man, in the latter he is shown as a boy, vulnerable and in need of support.
The diction of embarrassed further implies how he is uncomfortable at the idea of
being treated like a grown up. The poem is also narrated from a first person point
of view, thus positioning the reader into Heaney s perspective to showcase the
effects of the passing. It not only directly conveys Heaney s experiences, such as the
way people treated him, but also his internal struggles and feelings. In this way, the
poem invites us to experience the internal and external facets of his life. Mid term
Break is composed of stanzas consisting of three lines each, the regularity of which is
juxtaposed with the large amounts of caesura and broken iambic pentameter to make
commentary on the sudden nature of death and the fragile human experience. The
uniformity of the stanzas size mirrors the everyday, ordinary life which may seem
boring and monotone. The poem s punctuation in terms of caesura breaks

How To Read Literature Like A Professor Chapter
Summary
In the second chapter of Thomas C. Foster s How to Read Literature Like a Professor,
Foster discusses the intimacy of eating throughout literature and how readers should
draw important information from a scene at the table. This chapter quickly
establishes that whenever people eat or drink together, it s communion (8). While the
word communion is often associated with religious practices, Foster determines that
in literary context, communion frequently refers to the close exchanging of intimate
thoughts, feelings or actions. As the chapter progresses Foster begins to provide
several reasons for why readers should pay attention to meal scenes, such as, writinga

Throughout this movie, Quasimodo, a crooked bell ringer of the Notre Dame
cathedral is looked over by Frollo, the evil minister of justice for all of Paris.
Quasimodo is constantly belittled by Frollo which is emphasised during the
several meals they share together. During the film, Frollo expects Quasimodo to
set up and serve the meal in a servant manner. Frollo dines with clean metallic
plates, glasses and a napkin while Quasimodo is forced to feed off a wooden scrap
for a plate. In one instance Frollo drops food onto the ground on purpose and expects
Quasimodo to clean up after him. During these gatherings Frollo s flauntful behaviors
highlight the differences between the two characters. These scenes also stress how
Frollo abuses and discredits Quasimodo. Because of this chapter I came to the
realization that the small dining scenes assorted throughout The Hunchback of Notre
Dame withhold much more information than I initially thought. Instead of two
characters simply eating together for the necessity of food, this chapter in Thomas

Microsoft and How It s a Monopoly Essay
Microsoft and How It s a Monopoly
Since 1990, a battle has raged in United States courts between the United States
government and the Microsoft Corporation out of Redmond, Washington, headed by
Bill
Gates. What is at stake is money. The federal government maintains that Microsofts
monopolistic practices are harmful to United States citizens, creating higher price and
potentially downgrading software quality, and should therefore be stopped. While
Microsoft and its supporter s claims that they are not breaking any laws, and are just

Another practice that the Justice Department accused Microsoft of was that
Microsoft would specify a minimum number of operating systems that the retailer
had to

system installed until the retailer had installed all of the Microsoft operating systems
that

In addition to specifying a minimum number of operating systems that a vendor
had to buy, Microsoft also would sing contracts with the vendors for long periods of
time
such as two or three years. In order for a new operating system to gain popularity, it
would have to do so quickly, in order to show potential buyers that it was worth
something. With Microsoft signing long term contracts, they eliminated the chance
for a

Probably the second most controversial issue, besides the per processor
agreement, was Microsoft s practice of tying. Tying was a practice in which Microsoft
would use their leverage in one market area, such as graphical user interfaces, to gain
leverage in another market. In the preceding example, Microsoft would use their
graphical user interface, window to sell their operating system, by offering discounts

Essay Effective Mediation
1.Introduction
The practice of settling human conflicts through intermediaries has had a rich history
in Western and non Western cultures and therefore a broad range of forms and
functions. The conflicting parties in most of the societies and at all stages of social
interaction have had access to external actors to whom they approach when they
come to the conclusion that they are incapable to handle their different opinions by
themselves. In this case, an ordinary response to identify contradictions in objectives
and values be tween adversaries is to enter into a process of negotiation in order to
achieve an agreement on such differences, which is mutually acceptable. In
consequence, negoti ation seems to be a universal, human ... Show more content on

A special research field in the mediation literature intends to shed light on the
question, how influential the impact of mediator s characteristics and motivations on
the mediation process is. Concerning the state of research, the studies of this debate
show a divergent picture. There are scientists who have queried the significance of
mediator s impartiality (Bercovitch/Houston 1996; Kydd 2003, Touval 1982;
Zartmann/Touval 1996). Scholars like Saadia Touval have underpinned that
mediators are often biased and can perform their tasks just as well if not better as
impartial mediators. Additionally, Touval and Zartmann stated in their study that
mediation is an exercise in power politics: leverage is the ticket to mediation (Touval
/Zartmann 1989: 129). In 2003, Kydd finds that mediators use their leverage to one of
the two conflicting parties and therefore constraint concessions. Thus, the mediator
must be biased to be effective. This means that merely a mediator who is biased
towards one side can credibility tell them that the opponent will not make peace
without the concession. Carnevale and Arad (1996) also remarked the importance of
bias. Nevertheless, they suggest that impartiality should not be underestimated and
therefore be taken in to consideration.
However, there are a few practitioners who claim that the honest mediator must,

the way it has looked since the beginning. This belief is far from true. The Earth has
a history that has evolved over time just like everything else. We can view the history

The shield that is located in Canada is the most famous shield because it is the
oldest. The shield is the only area of rock that is as old as the Earth itself. This means
that the rock formations located within the shield are 4.6 billion years old. No other
area of the Earth s crust is this old because of the rock cycle. The rock cycle basically
recycles the existing crust and turns it into new crust. This process starts with areas
that are known as subduction zones. These subduction zones consist of one tectonic
plate submerging underneath another tectonic plate. As the plate becomes subducted
from tectonic movement, it breaks down and turns into magma. In some situations
the crust that has now been turned into magma relocates to an area known as a hot
spot. Hot spots are areas underneath the surface of the Earth that are filled with
magma. As the pressure in these hot spots rises, the magma begins to work its way
upward until it reaches the surface and forms new crust. This event usually takes
place in the ocean which results in the formation of new oceanic crust. As time goes
on this oceanic crust moves closer to the continents, then eventually becomes
continental crust. As even more time passes, the continental crust begins to move
upward forming what we know today as mountain ranges. Once the mountain ranges
are formed, the cycle starts over because the mountains begin to erode and eventually

Safety during an experiment is extremely important. It prevents accidents, injuries
and more. There is a lot of equipment that can keep you safe in a lab. Accidents can
happen, so it s best to be prepared. These are some of the rules you should follow.
Goggles are useful in physical and chemical experiments. They will protect your
eyes from projectile objects and explosions. Also googles have side protectors for
chemical experiments. Chemicals in your eye will hurt. Most labs should have a
shower for any big chemical spills. There is also an eye rinse station you should
use. To use it, just hold open your eyes so the can get water in them. It is very
important not to close your eyes while doing this. Labs coats are extremely useful.

She says: Being lazy is when you are unwilling to do something while procrastinating
is when you intend to do something but you re just postponing the work. By
distinguishing these two words, Jill makes it very clear to the readers that
procrastination and laziness do not represent the same thing. Procrastination is not as
bad as being lazy. This comparison shows Jill acknowledges that there is a
misunderstanding of procrastination. Therefore, knowing the difference between
procrastinating and being lazy is very crucial in redefining the word procrastination .
Here, clarifying any confusion by using comparison helps develop the idea of what
does it mean to procrastinate, which contributes to the main points of this essay. To
explain why procrastination is not unacceptable, Jill not only uses comparison but
also effectively uses questions to further illustrate why procrastination is not

Although nearly every culture has the concept of dragons represented in its
mythology or art, the idea of what a dragon looks like, how it behaves, or the
purpose it serves varies drastically. Does the dragon fly if so does it have wings or
does it fly through other means? Does it breathe fire? Ice? Does it bring good luck,
energy, or protection? Or does a dragon instill fear and bring harm and destruction?
What is their intelligence level? The characteristics of a dragon can be determined
based on whether or not we look at western dragons or eastern dragons. However,
what s even more interesting than the different variations of dragons that have been

Why did you invite that dragon to the party? is an example of how this new

the East Yiddish term shmok meaning penis which was derived from the Old Polish

The IRA declared a cease fire on July 19, 1997 to become effective July 20. At the
end of August, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland announced her finding
that the cease fire was being observed, allowing Sinn Fein, the political party
closely identified with the IRA, entry into negotiations on Northern Ireland s
political future. The July 20 cease fire ended a 17 month terrorism campaign and
led to the opening of inclusive political talks in September. Following the cease fire
there was a marked decrease of sectarian violence but not a total cessation. Police
believe that paramilitary groups in Northern Ireland were responsible for 22 deaths,
251 shootings, and 78 bombings during 1997 (http://www.fas.org/irp/world/para
/ira.htm). Both republican and loyalist paramilitary groups continued to engage in
vigilante attacks, although there was a decrease in the number of such incidents even
before the July cease fire.
In August 1998 the IRA claimed responsibility for a car bomb which killed 28 and
injured 220 in the Northern Irish Town of Omagh. The bombing was the worst
terrorist activity in nearly three decades for Ireland. While claiming responsibility
for the blast an IRA representative anonymously told an Irish newspaper Despite

Essays In Mla Format. Sample Essay Format MLA - Pearce 1 Lindsey Pearce Professor Oros ENG ...

  • 1. Essays In Mla Format Writing an essay in MLA format can be both challenging and demanding. The Modern Language Association (MLA) has established a set of guidelines for formatting academic papers, and adhering to these rules requires meticulous attention to detail. From the proper citation of sources to the correct formatting of headers, margins, and font styles, every aspect needs to be carefully considered. One of the difficulties lies in mastering the intricacies of MLA citation. The format requires a precise method of citing sources in the text and creating a corresponding Works Cited page. Understanding the nuances of citing different types of sources, such as books, articles, and online resources, can be a daunting task for those unfamiliar with the MLA guidelines. Moreover, the essay's structure must also align with MLA standards. This includes the appropriate use of headings, page numbers, and line spacing. The intricate details, like indenting paragraphs and aligning citations, may seem minor but play a crucial role in achieving a polished and well-formatted essay. Another challenge is staying updated with the latest MLA guidelines, as they may undergo revisions over time. This requires writers to stay vigilant and adapt to any changes in citation rules or formatting recommendations. Despite the challenges, mastering MLA format is a valuable skill for academic writing. It not only ensures that the essay is presented in a professional and organized manner but also demonstrates the writer's commitment to scholarly standards. In conclusion, tackling an essay in MLA format requires a thorough understanding of the guidelines and a keen eye for detail. From citation rules to formatting specifications, each element demands careful consideration. However, with practice and a commitment to learning the intricacies of MLA, writers can develop the skills needed to produce well-crafted and properly formatted essays. • 3. History of Ict History of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the Philippines The Philippines connected to the internet in 1994 via the Philippine Internet Foundation (PHNet), the first internet service provider in the country. Penetration increased slowly until 2005, when Executive Order 109 was enacted calling for the expansion of telecommunication services to underserved areas, which in turn promoted competition in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector. Internet use further accelerated after 2008 with the entry of a number of industry players, although the use of mobile phones has remained more widespread. Penetration of such technologies is higher in urban areas where middle to upper income classes are concentrated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many local ISPs go through the PLDT because it owns the 10,000 kilometer Domestic Fiber Optic Network (DFON) connected to several international cable routes and has the highest capacity in the country at 250 Gbps. PLDT also owns or manages several international cable landings in the country. Further, the country s telecommunications industry in the last decade has been characterized by mergers and acquisitions amid the country s market liberalization initiatives during the 1980s and the absence of anti trust laws. By the end of 2010, three privately owned telecom companies were dominant: PLDT/Smart, Globe Telecommunications, Inc., and Digitel. With PLDT s recent acquisition of majority shares in Digitel, the company now controls 70 percent of the country s ICT sector. To enter the ICT industry in the Philippines, companies must go through a two stage process. First, they must obtain a congressional license that involves parliamentary hearings and the approval of both the upper and lower houses. Second, they need to apply for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) from the NTC. The constitution limits foreign entities to only 40 percent ownership of a business to be established in the country. Internet service is currently classified as a value added service and is therefore subject to fewer regulatory requirements compared to mobile and fixed phone services.

  • 5. Marketing Plan For The Company Introduction Lululemon is a company that has based itself around a value proposition of ethical production, healthy living and quality athletic gear designed to encourage and support an active lifestyle (Lululemon, 2014). Unfortunately for the company in the last year it has come under fire for a run of clothing that was far below their standard quality, and was in fact recalled for being too sheer (Peterson, 2013). This incident was exacerbated by CEO Chip Wilson s comments that effectively blamed the issue on the body types of their customers (Forbes, 2014). This series of events served to isolate the brand from two of its critical strengths, namely the positive, encouraging push towards healthier living and the socially conscious production of high quality goods. In order to address this issue we are focusing our marketing plan on three specific areas: Focusing on emphasizing the realignment of our executive to reflect the values of the corporation, continuing to increase the production of micro marketed goods, and increasing our client engagement by promoting yoga events in local communities in order to re establish our position as a healthy, active and body positive firm. The Texas constitution has been reformed on multiple occasions and is troublesome to amend due to it being highly restrictive and detailed. The process on how to amend the Texas constitution, the attempts and failure of the constitutional reform in the 1970 s and why Texas should adopt an easily accessible and flexible constitution are the primary focal points that will be addressed throughout this essay. Texas, amongst many of the state constitutions, has had a great deal of proposals to amend the state constitution. Reminiscing back to 1876 when the Texas constitution was adopted, there have been six hundred and sixty six prospective proposals to amending the constitution. However, of the six hundred and sixty six proposals, four hundred and eighty four have been ratified leaving the remaining few defeated by the Texas voters. Furthermore amending the Texas constitution, according to Article 17 of the Texas constitution involves applying a two step process. The process starts off by obtaining a two thirds vote from each house in the legislature and a majority vote by the voters. The two thirds vote consists of having one hundred members from the House of Representatives and twenty one from the

Also, areas that do not have internet access or have low amount of access to the internet. This paper will also talk about broadband that are in some areas. The paper will start with a little history of how the internet first started and how it continues to develop. Next, will be broadband provided in the United States and other areas. Then, will be the use of internet in the U.S. and rural areas. After that is the use of internet using devices. Last, will the ethical analysis. 2. BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE The first internet started about 50 years ago in the United States. It started out as a government weapon for researchers to use to share data and communicate with each other. During the 1950s, the Soviet Union lunched the first satellite that was made by man into orbit. The satellite was called Sputnik. The only thing it did was traveling around the earth sending radio transmissions. After that, American scientist decided to focus more on technology and science to further advance their technology. Different corporations decided to use their government funded money and place it in scientific research and development. Even the federal government used their own money to create

They devised a series of tests designed to address aspects we hadn t considered. They crafted a new series of tests intended to produce unequivocal scientific validity. They connected instrumentation to our bodies to determine energy and oxygen consumption. We ran for hours on treadmills as instruments measured our metabolism . We learned to tap our in the zone mode at will, instead of waiting for a burst of adrenaline. The effort continued for weeks. We confirmed the existence of non physical, Psionic Energy beyond doubt. The scientists agreed it was a reasonable scientific theory. They went to great lengths to exclude potential flaws in the testing. We failed to tap energy beyond our body s metabolism. We suspected a vast reservoir of Dark Energy awaits our discovery. Yet we accounted for every Joule of energy expended for in the calories consumed. A surprising conclusion about non physical energy emerged. It is horribly inefficient. Fitz could hoist immense weights, his muscular effort augmented by the mental. That mental boost came at a terrific cost. Testing revealed the calories consumed by mental force exceeded muscles. In fact the delta is more than a hundredfold. Effects Of Alcoholism On The American Medical Association Assignment: Literature review Topic: Addiction to alcohol Instructor: Vanda Wark Literature Review Definition of alcoholism: According to the American medical association alcoholism is a chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial and environmental factors influencing development and manifestations. Alcoholism has had a tremendous impact on the human condition and its relationship to society. The evolution of alcoholism, its behavior and quality of life impact will be addressed; as well as treatments and fiscal impact in the literature review. Alcoholism is a complex disorder with many pathways leading to its development. Genetic and other biological factors are likely involved in the emergence of alcohol dependence, along with cognitive, behavioral, temperament, psychological, and sociocultural factors. Alcohol use patterns, including alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence, are familial in nature (cf. Heath et al., 1997; cf. Kendler, Heath, Neale, Kessler, Eaves, 1992; Hesselbrock, 1995). That is, similar styles of alcohol use and the presence of alcoholism are often found within the same family, running from parent to child and across multiple generations of biologically related individuals. However, many other traits or behaviors, such as religious or political affiliation, which have little or no biological basis and, therefore, cannot be under heavy genetic control, also run in families. While genetic and other biological factors cannot fully

If I engage my mind enough then I can ignore the pain. It is only partially successful. I realized, as I walked to the library, that distraction is how I ve always gotten through exercise. I don t like to sweat. It is uncomfortable, although I am working on that distaste. Exercise has always caused pain in my ankles and I ve never been good at it. Today, I walked in the heat as fast as I could manage to the beat of my Lady Gaga Pandora channel. I used the beat of Pitbull s Shake Senora to move faster and faster. By the time I made it to the library I was dripping with sweat and my pants were sticking to me. If there were such a thing as tiny men, they could have slid down my cleavage like a slip and slide. The definition of logic is reasoning conducted or assessed according to strict principles of validity . Truman uses reasoning to figure out that someone does not want him to find out the truth regarding the world he lives in. When he sees a man who resembles his father who died he believes that its him but soon the man who is father is taken away from him. He uses logic to believe that something is wrong. Another example to further enhance this theme is the radio in Truman s car which details his every move which he was making. At the end of the film Truman logically thought about his decision to leave and knew that it was a far better reason to live a life free from barriers and live a life that is truly his own. Furthermore, another way of knowing that is present in the movie is memory. Memory is what haunts Truman while thinking of sailing on water as it is what lead to the demise of his father . Themes of nationalism, patriotism and British imperialism are often featured in his works. This is the case in Requiem for the Croppies, a poem published on the 50th anniversary of the Easter uprising of 1916 which alludes to the 1798 Vinegar Hill Rebellion for independence. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is done through the binary opposition of I was embarrassed by old men standing up to shake my hand and my mother held my hand in hers where the repetition of the diction of hand creates direct contrast. While in the first example Heaney is being treated like a man, in the latter he is shown as a boy, vulnerable and in need of support. The diction of embarrassed further implies how he is uncomfortable at the idea of being treated like a grown up. The poem is also narrated from a first person point of view, thus positioning the reader into Heaney s perspective to showcase the effects of the passing. It not only directly conveys Heaney s experiences, such as the way people treated him, but also his internal struggles and feelings. In this way, the poem invites us to experience the internal and external facets of his life. Mid term Break is composed of stanzas consisting of three lines each, the regularity of which is juxtaposed with the large amounts of caesura and broken iambic pentameter to make commentary on the sudden nature of death and the fragile human experience. The uniformity of the stanzas size mirrors the everyday, ordinary life which may seem boring and monotone. The poem s punctuation in terms of caesura breaks

With Microsoft signing long term contracts, they eliminated the chance for a new operating system to gain the popularity needed quickly. Probably the second most controversial issue, besides the per processor agreement, was Microsoft s practice of tying. Tying was a practice in which Microsoft would use their leverage in one market area, such as graphical user interfaces, to gain leverage in another market. In the preceding example, Microsoft would use their graphical user interface, window to sell their operating system, by offering discounts to

  • 32. Essay Effective Mediation 1.Introduction The practice of settling human conflicts through intermediaries has had a rich history in Western and non Western cultures and therefore a broad range of forms and functions. The conflicting parties in most of the societies and at all stages of social interaction have had access to external actors to whom they approach when they come to the conclusion that they are incapable to handle their different opinions by themselves. In this case, an ordinary response to identify contradictions in objectives and values be tween adversaries is to enter into a process of negotiation in order to achieve an agreement on such differences, which is mutually acceptable. In consequence, negoti ation seems to be a universal, human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A special research field in the mediation literature intends to shed light on the question, how influential the impact of mediator s characteristics and motivations on the mediation process is. Concerning the state of research, the studies of this debate show a divergent picture. There are scientists who have queried the significance of mediator s impartiality (Bercovitch/Houston 1996; Kydd 2003, Touval 1982; Zartmann/Touval 1996). Scholars like Saadia Touval have underpinned that mediators are often biased and can perform their tasks just as well if not better as impartial mediators. Additionally, Touval and Zartmann stated in their study that mediation is an exercise in power politics: leverage is the ticket to mediation (Touval /Zartmann 1989: 129). In 2003, Kydd finds that mediators use their leverage to one of the two conflicting parties and therefore constraint concessions. Thus, the mediator must be biased to be effective. This means that merely a mediator who is biased towards one side can credibility tell them that the opponent will not make peace without the concession. Carnevale and Arad (1996) also remarked the importance of bias. Nevertheless, they suggest that impartiality should not be underestimated and therefore be taken in to consideration. However, there are a few practitioners who claim that the honest mediator must,

A lot of people believe that the way the Earth looks today is the way it has looked since the beginning. This belief is far from true. The Earth has a history that has evolved over time just like everything else. We can view the history by examining the Earths crust in areas. The region of the Earth that is presently known as Canada has the world s oldest history which makes it unique. Throughout this paper I will discuss how the area known as Canada became what it is. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The shield that is located in Canada is the most famous shield because it is the oldest. The shield is the only area of rock that is as old as the Earth itself. This means that the rock formations located within the shield are 4.6 billion years old. No other area of the Earth s crust is this old because of the rock cycle. The rock cycle basically recycles the existing crust and turns it into new crust. This process starts with areas that are known as subduction zones. These subduction zones consist of one tectonic plate submerging underneath another tectonic plate. As the plate becomes subducted from tectonic movement, it breaks down and turns into magma. In some situations the crust that has now been turned into magma relocates to an area known as a hot spot. Hot spots are areas underneath the surface of the Earth that are filled with magma. As the pressure in these hot spots rises, the magma begins to work its way upward until it reaches the surface and forms new crust. This event usually takes place in the ocean which results in the formation of new oceanic crust. As time goes on this oceanic crust moves closer to the continents, then eventually becomes continental crust. As even more time passes, the continental crust begins to move upward forming what we know today as mountain ranges. Once the mountain ranges are formed, the cycle starts over because the mountains begin to erode and eventually will
