A Maximum Wage Research Paper
People have different views about whether governments should introduce a maximum wage.
While in some ways it may seem reasonable to allow people to earn as much as companies are
willing to pay, I personally believe that employee remuneration should be capped at a certain
level. There are various reasons why it might be considered beneficial to allow people to be paid
extremely high salaries. If companies offer excellent pay packages, they can attract the most
talented people in their fields to work for them. For example, technology companies like Google
are able to employ the best programmers because of the huge sums that they are willing to pay.
Furthermore, these well paid employees are likely to be highly motivated to work hard and therefore

The Panama Canal Between 1904 And 1914
1502, Panama was explored and discovered by Columbus and then later on by Balboa in 1513.
In the 16th Century, Panama was probed by Spain and Spanish became its official language. In
1821, Panama joined the Republic of Gran Colombia; a joint union of Colombia, Ecuador, and
Venezuela. In the colonial days, to be able to import and export goods between South and Central
America, they have to operate through Panama. 1903 a treaty was signed between Panama and the
U.S. to have U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build the Panama Canalbetween 1904 and 1914.
Panamanians commend an impressive plan to expand the Canal. Such project was started in 2007
with an estimated cost of $5.3 billion and it is expected to be finished and complete in 2016. This...

Economy: To be one of the fastest growing economies in the past decade in Latin America with
an average of 8.4% GDP (gross domestic product) in 2004 and 2013, Panama is beyond stabled!
In the year of 2010 and 2011, the Panamanians phenomenally accelerated its growth rates to double
digits. Their economy is extraordinarily high due to imports and exports through the Panama Canal
and other industries. Bananas, corn, coffee, and sugar are the principals of cash crop, aside from
that the agriculture sector became less important throughout the years. The 2007 project, expansion
of the Panama Canal, has become the major source of Panama s economic activities. Panama is a
dollarized economy and has a stable political environment.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Eclectic Theory
Abstract This article is a short overview of the Eclectic theory or ideology of teaching English. A
discovery of where the origins of the philosophy were born, and why it evolved and stayed alive in
many fields of study to this day.. While many old school linguists see it as un principled and vague
without any structure, is does have strong concepts and principles about language acquisitionand
learning environments, choices of activities and reasons for these varieties, A look at what
prominent linguists say about the advantages and the disadvantages of this theory.
Eclectic Theory Makes Sense
Over the last hundred years or more, numerous second language methods and ... Show more content

Then there are standards of achievement which make it inconceivable that any single method
could achieve optimum success in all learning environments. Alan Maley (1983) said: Teachers
need to offer a variety of activities, techniques, and tasks in teaching to give equal opportunities to
students with different styles of learning so all students progress. Girard, (1972) said: Rather than
fish in one linguistic stream, we should cast our pedagogical net in all waters that might bring us
in a profitable catch (Dillon, J. M., and A. A. Long, 2004). It is a whole integrated approach, for
example, a listening activity with coordinated speaking or singing and supplementary features like
pronunciation and form of the language. In this regard Canale and Swain rightly said about the four
dimensions of communicative competence, grammar competence, sociolinguistic competence,
discourse competence, and strategic competence (Richard, 1986, p.71). It is hard to sum up
Eclectic theory in a few sentences. It is not a scientific drill or methodology nor it a teaching tool
or a learning method for the learners. The causes for change in language teaching, and in new
language teaching methods, lie, in this view, in the main with social, political or philosophical
factors (Pennycook, A.1989). Critical pedagogy is, wary of progressivism concepts characteristic in
second language teaching. With the inception of applied linguistics, along with the concept of a
scientific kind of language teaching philosophies changed. This was seen prominently in the audio
lingual methodology. Proponents of the audio lingual method (ALM) thought that they could
validate their teaching techniques by claiming that the method was based on scientific

Colgate Palmolive-the Precision Toothbrush
1. What is changing in the toothbrush category? Assess Colgate Palmolive s competitive position.
Toothbrush manufacturers have poured millions of dollars and hours, to marry form and function
in oral health care products that enable their users to brush frequently, comfortably, and above all,
properly. Along the way, they have built the U.S. oral care market into a $2.9 billion industry,
changed the brushing habits of millions and turned the lowly toothbrush into a trendy lifestyle
accessory.
As the consumers are becoming more concerned about the health of their teeth, the toothbrush
companies are focusing on helping them have an optimal dental health, and offering various types

3. What are the arguments for launching Precision as a) a niche product and b) a mainstream brand?
В•Launching Precision as a niche product:
Niche positioning focuses on customers who care about the prevention of gum diseases. As such,
it could command a 15% price premium over Oral B and would be expected to capture 3% of the
U.S. toothbrush market by the end of the first year following its launch. Steinberg believed that
with a niche positioning, Precision retail sales would represent 3% volume share of the toothbrush
market in year 1 and 5% in year.
Under a niche positioning strategy, Steinberg decided that CP would establish a factory list price
to the trade of $2.13, a premium over Oral B regular and at parity with Oral B Indicator. If the
company decided to position the Precision toothbrush as a niche product many positive benefits
would appear:
1.Precision toothbrush is more advanced and is characterized for its technological superiority over
its competitors. Because of that, Colgate Palmolive can be able to differentiate and promote
something new to the market.
2.Colgate Palmolive would be able to charge premium prices if targeting to customers who are
worried about gum diseases.
3.If the company decided to position the Precision toothbrush as a niche product SKU s would not
decrease.
4.In case of failure of Precision, Colgate could reduce the losses if costs were to decrease.

The Responsibility Of Child Soldiers
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party
shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their
jurisdiction. are words from the Thirteenth Amendment that was passed in 1865. However, is still
untrue around the world. One issue that is violating this amendment is child soldiers. Child
soldiers are a horrifying issue around the world that put the lives of many children at risk. One
reason child soldiers are such a huge problem is because they are forced to take part in many life
threatening conflicts. Another reason is because the children are brainwashed to do as the army
tells them to.
To start, child soldiers are human rights concern because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

According to one site, they are small, so they can be transported in large numbers yet big
enough to handle lightweight weapons as well as heavy enough to set off landmines. They also
have no real sense of fear, are cheap and expendable, and when indoctrinated young enough, they
can be more loyal and ferocious than adults. (Macleans 1) However, when getting the children to
follow orders, they are injured and stripped of their normal lives and made to believe what the
armies want them to think. Many times, they suffer from psychological damage and if brought
back to their families, they can be very violent. (Telegraph 1) Having these soldiers are wrong
since while they are still developing, they are fed wrong information and have their lives changed.
To conclude, children may be perfect for the job of a soldier, but the way they are treated is
inhuman and children should not be fighting adults battles. The use of child soldiers is an atrocious
violation of the human rights. One topic is that child soldiers are forced into extreme situations.
The first reason is because they have to fight in hazardous places. The second reason is because they
have their thoughts manipulated while at the military. This kind of treatment to children as young as
8 is unacceptable and and you can help stop it. Raise awareness, spread the word, research the
problem, protest it, raise money to stop this, and maybe one day, the thirteenth amendment

identified females, 2 males, and 1 gender queer. The mean age was an average of 20 with an age
range from 18 years to 22 years.
A 2x2 within subjects design was used for the present study. The first independent variable, of
Motherhood, has two levels. The first level is if the applicant was identified as a Mother, which

The four resumes were printed on 9x11 paper and had on the top left corner the word name, next
to the name was a letter, either A, B, C, or D. A was the first resume the participant viewed
regardless of what was on the resume, B was the second, C the third and D the last. The way of
identifying the resumes was done so that the letter would not correspond to a specific resume or
level and create an extraneous variable. Underneath the name the word school was listed along with
the school for that given level, either Harvard University for high prestige or California State
University, Long Beach for low prestige. Harvard University was chosen to operationalize high
prestige because as an Ivy League institution there comes a high reputation and prestige with the
name. For the low prestige level, California State University, Long Beach (Cal State, Long Beach)
was chosen because, in comparison to Harvard University, it is low in prestige. Cal State, Long
Beach was chosen as an equal comparison instead of a community college because they are in two
different states but both have given the student potential to receive a Bachelors of Arts/Science
degree. Under the school, the words extracurricular was listed, and next to the words were one of
four listed extracurriculars that the applicant took part of at the respective college. The four
extracurriculars were either president of a school club, participation in the school s

Analysis of Bertrand RussellВґs The Problems of Philosphy...
06455401
1)
The philosopher Bertrand Russell in his work, The Problems of Philosophy, comes to some
conclusions of the truth of objects in our world. Through questioning certain ideas and problems in
our world, he breaks down what can know what really exists in the world and what does not.
Russell, an empiricist, believes that through our sensory perception of our environment. However,
our own individual perception can be skewed, and therefore is susceptible to err. Russell gives
an example of three people, one is color blind, one is sick, and one is inebriated sick, and one is
inebriated, and ask them to describe the same chair, they will all give you slightly different
answers. Then if you take that chair and put it behind a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This consistency proposes to Russell, that we, at least, must have faith in the reality of a single,
specific, real chair. To this commonsensible belief, he also goes on to propose the idea that real
objects cause the sense data we intake, so therefore must be related to them in a certain
noteworthy way. So from this what can we believe and not believe to exist? Well first of all we
can believe that, if we are looking at the chair, we can conclude the object itself is real, there is a
chair there. Our senses take in the sense data of a chair, four legs, a back rest, etc. We then take
this data and use our prior knowledge of other chair like things, and we can come to the solution
of the object we are looking at is a chair. This logic applies to all objects in such a manner.
However we cannot truly believe that certain things truly exists. Such as the fact that we cannot
truly believe the existence of certain characteristics of an objects when it s subject outside
influence, such as a chair in water. To the naked eye, the chair would look distorted, but it is not
so, the water distorts our perception of the chair, therefore deceiving our view of the reality of the
characteristics of the chair. In conclusion, Russell gives us an answer to the question, if our senses
can be easily deceived and tricked into perceiving and reality that is false, how can we believe it

The Buildings In Ancient Greece
The buildings in Ancient Greece had many different uses during that era. From religious,
domestic, funerary to civic and recreational, they all had specific purposes. Various materials
were used throughout Greek architecture depending on what the building was used for. For
example, limestone and marble would be used for the walls and columns on public buildings.
On the other hand, they would use wood for roof beams and unbaked brick for walls in homes
and terra cotta for roof tiles. The details located on buildings would usually be bronze metal
material. The golden section was where one side of something is larger and the other side is
smaller. For example, the golden rectangle was used in most architectural buildings. Many people

The Dark Room Of The Room
The Dark Room
The dancers in the room constantly remain in contact with anything the dancers touch. The dancers
progress from a wall to the arms of a person to a floor. The connection remains the same through
these actions. The points of contact remain with the body, and the dancer starts exploring different
perspectives of what the body can do with in relation to the ground.
The dancers consistently in contact with the objects around them. In the beginning, a woman walks
on the side of the wall while walking into an object. As a woman in a white dress comes out of a
swinging door, she walks forward with her body leaning on the wall. The women maintain the
contact of her left hand with the side left side of the wall. The room is full of chairs, so the
women also bumps into an object with a loud noise while leaning and maintaining the contact with
the wall. The noise is loud and drags on for the audience. The object would be a black chair. The
black chairs are not noticeable because the room at the very beginning of the dance is very dark. It
is not until several minutes into the play that you notice there are chairs are in the room.
Another instance of contact in the dance is when the women heads to her chair, she stands and
takes of her dress. The dress coming off revealing the bright white skin in contrast with the dark
room. The women stand briefly, looking straight ahead, and proceeds downward in a direct motion.
The women connect herself with the chair and the table

Russia was a rural country that once had regime. The majority of Russia was profoundly poor
and the few that were rich were extremely wealthy. Their last ruler had been Tsar Nicholas II who
was not a natural leader; in fact most people could describe him as a reluctant and feeble monarch.
Russia suffered numerous revolutions and defeats in wars under the regime. As a result their
country was damaged, economically and socially. Russiawas poverty stricken particularly in the

The Tsar lost most if not all support and the Government seemed merely incompetent. Four years
after the Tsar was overthrown on March 15th 1917 Russia was still in despair and underwent
numerous revolutions and civil war with a Provisional (temporary) Government. This Government
chose to continue the war and failed to deal with the land and food issues of Russia. They felt
threatened by the Petrograd Soviets who spoke of the change the people wanted and were
evidently supported by the soldiers and workers.
Many revolutionary groups had emerged. There were the Marxists, Social Democratic Party and
the Social Revolutionaries. They all believed that a revolution would rise because of the
exploitation in the urban industries as the government did not protect the workers as well as the
common discontent of the peasants. The Social Democratic Party divided into two factions: the
Mensheviks and Bolsheviks. The Mensheviks were the minority and believed that co operating
with other opposition groups would improve the lives of the working class. The Bolsheviks were
the majority and believed in seizing power at the right time. The Bolsheviks were determined to

The Five Characteristics Of A Good President
Presidents are very important to the country, but the 3 most important requirement to become a
president of the United States include, being the age of 35, a natural born citizen and a resident
within the United States for 14 years. When looking at the American history today and trying to
figure out the best one, it is important to look at individual traits that make a good president. For
example, some presidents were loved by the public but barely made any accomplishment in the
office while on the other hand some presidents made massive accomplishments for the economy
and the country but were overlooked with disregard. The five important traits for a good president
are Intelligence/ wisdom, honesty, leadership quality, respecting and hard working.
Intelligence also known as wisdom means having the quality of experience, knowledge, and good
judgment to make great decisions. Intelligence and wisdom are important due to various reasons.
Firstly, a president must know every criteria and should be very knowledgeable regarding his job.
Also, presidents are people who make decisions and judge for the ... Show more content on

Another important trait is honesty as it is very important for the country to have a trustworthy
leader who doesn t cheat on his people; every president in the history of America has made a
false and a fake promise to his people before being elected as the president to win the heart of the
people and later not complete the promise that he had made. The president should not lie to his
people; he should also be honest to other countries for alliances and unions and without the alliance
the country might suffer and not be well known. For example, if the president of the United States
lies to the Chinese government, there is a high chance for the Chinese government to stop exporting
their products which a lot of the U.S. citizens rely on. Thus, honesty or being honest is an important
trait to be in a

This Paper Will Describe The Sociocultural And Demographic
This paper will describe the sociocultural and demographic trends of grocery retailing. The
sociocultural and demographic trends are a part of the external environmental analysis of a
company or industry. One popular trend in the sociocultural environment of grocery retailing is the
trend of becoming healthier and wanting grocery stores to offer organic and fresh foods rather
than processed foods. The demographic trend will focus on how grocery retailers market to
different age groups in the United States, as well as around the world. Grocery retailers around the
world can take into consideration these two trends and work towards a better understanding of what
their consumers want and desire. General Environmental... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One trend that seems to come to mind when talking about grocery retailing in a sociocultural
sense is the trend of offering fresh and organic items in supermarkets as well as in local grocery
stores. The everyday consumer is starting to realize that being healthy is not entirely about
working out, but it is also about what kinds of food you put into your body. Therefore, people in
today s day and time, will do whatever it takes to make sure they are their healthiest, and that
they look the best. According to the article, Consumers Want Healthy Foods And They Will Pay
More for Them, about 88% of consumers are willing to pay the higher prices for the fresh and
organic foods that grocery stores supply (Gagliardi, 2015). This could be because the health fad
that has presented itself today is much stronger than those in years past. According to an article
that was published by the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, many grocers are finding
that customers are changing their preferences about their food, and are now wanting fresh foods
and organic foods in their local supermarkets. This paired with increasing transportation costs are
causing grocers to rethink the ideas and processes of large centralized distribution centers (Ernst
Woods, 2012). Demographic Forces A second general external environment is the demographic
force. This force includes different things such as age, race, gender, and social class (Hill,

The Common Types Of People
A very common thing for people of all ages to do is go online and try to find answers for their
symptoms. Sometimes they find answers to their questions or they find the solution to their
problem. Often times, however people research their symptoms and end up paranoid and scared
thinking there might be something seriously wrong with themselves. While some people feel the
need to find answers, others argue that the internetisn t always as reliable as people like to believe.
There are many reasons why people look up their symptom and there are three very common types
of people that research their health problems. The first type being the people that find good results
and end in relief. This is because they realize that the problems they re having aren t serious, or that
the solution to their problems is fairly easy to accomplish.
The second type is the people that have been diagnosed with an actual health problem and go online
to find answers to their question. Researching helps them to know what to expect. It may help
them regain a sense of control during a scary and sometimes helpless time (Weiser). For this type
of people knowing information whether it be good or bad, helps them to feel comfort.
The third and what I personally think is the most common type is those that don t have a lot of
knowledge on their health issues. They don t know how serious their problems really are, well
because they aren t doctors to really know. These are the type of people that google

Physical Exercise And Mental Exercise Essay
The articles by Erikson et al., Gatz, Korol et al., and Draganski et al. explore the concept of
increased physical activity and/or mental activity having effects on the cognitive function and
development or deterioration of the brain as we age. Although I agree that physical exercise is
critical in increasing cognitive function because of the health benefits it provides, as well as the
increased blood flow and circulation throughout the body, I ultimately believe that a healthy brainis
not achieved solely by physical exerciseor mental exercise, but both. I think there is a link between
physical and mental exercise, and that the combination of these two activities creates higher
cognitive functioning of the mindas well as the body. The mind and body come together and meet to
make an overall healthy individual.
The Erikson et al. article supports the idea that physical exercise helps the brain by improving
memory and the size of the hippocampus. Erikson and his colleagues suggested in their study that
physical exercise increases the retention of information and improves learning capabilities. The
way they measured this was by studying the increased or decreased size of the subject s
hippocampus and levels of BDNF. The control group in this experiment completed stretching/toning
exercises while the experimental group did aerobic exercise; the experimental group ended up
having a larger hippocampus volume than when starting out, as well as higher levels of BDNF; the

Elizibethan Religious Settlement Essay
Elizabethan Religious Settlement
The Elizabethan Religious Settlement was Elizabeth I s response to the religious divisions
created over the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI and Mary I. This response, described as The
Revolution of 1559 ,[1] was set out in two Acts of the Parliament of England. The Act of
Supremacy of 1559 re established the Church of England s independence from Rome, with
Parliament conferring on Elizabeth the title Supreme Governor of the Church of England, while the
Act of Uniformity of 1559 set out the form the English church would now take, including the
establishment of the Book of Common Prayer.

The queen also appointed a new Privy Council, removing many Roman Catholic counsellors by
doing so. Queen Elizabeth I of England reached a moderate religious settlement which became

The Act of Uniformity 1558, which required the population to attend Sunday service in an
Anglican church, at which a new version of the Book of Common Prayer was to be used, passed
by only three votes.[5] The Bill of Uniformity was more cautious than the initial Reformation
Bill. It revoked the harsh laws proposed against Roman Catholics, it removed the abuse of the
Pope from the litany and kept the wording that allowed for both a subjective and objective belief
in the Real Presence in the Communion. After Parliament was dismissed, Elizabeth, along with
Cecil, drafted what are known as the Royal Injunctions, 1559. These were additions to the
settlement and largely stressed some continuity with the Catholic past: ministers were ordered to
wear the surplice; wafers, as opposed to ordinary baker s bread, were to be used as the bread at
Communion. There had been opposition to the settlement in the shires, which for the most part
were largely Roman Catholic, so the changes are often said to have been made in order to allow
for acceptance of the

The Paradox Of Democracy And Imperialism In 5th Century...
Plato once stated that Justice was about minding your own business and keep from meddling in
the business of other men and in relation to the four major virtues of civilization, this could be
interpreted in several different ways. Plato was one of the greatest philosophers of our history, and
he had a theory that every civilization was built on four underpinning virtues that are Wisdom,
Courage, Moderation, and Justice. While many may disagree that the Classical Greeks followed
these four virtues, it was clear that in a sense, they did.
However, it wasn t enough to consider them just, and thus, they did not create Plato s ideal

eyes of man, in the eyes of woman and slave, they were not. In the article, The Paradox of
Democracy and Imperialism in 5th Century Athens it reads, The idea of universal human rights
would have been alien to the Athenians, who saw no need to grant women, slaves, and Metics equal
rights to those enjoyed by citizens. (Chua 3). This statement proves that only the Athenian men had

Impact Of Extracurricular Activities On Students
Extracurricular activities are offered in almost all schools and universities. You can engage in
extracurricular activities as young kindergarten up to your adulthood and even beyond that. These
activities come in different forms like sports, clubs, fraternities and sororities, youth groups and
other social events. This paper is mainly about how extracurricular activities affect the students. In
the research paper of Nikki Wilson, Impact of Extracurricular Activities on Students, it says there
that students who participate in extracurricular activities benefit from the opportunities that it has
presented them. One of these benefits is having better grades. My friends Julie and Alex answered
in the survey I prepared that having extracurricular activities challenge them to get good grades
because if they do not, they will be required to drop their extracurricular activities and they want to
set a good example. Having to keep up their grades so that they can participate in their chosen...

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
According to the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the people have to
cut about 90% of the use of fossil fuels worldwide to have a slim chance of stopping Global
Warming. If the people have anything less than the percentage given, Global Warming will not
stop. As of now Global Warming is a big issue throughout the world. Some say Global Warming
is
just a myth to scare people and it s just a natural cause, but there is proof that Global Warming is a
fact and that the main cause of Global Warming is anthropogenic causes or man made. Man has
overused the burning of fossil fuels throughout generations and the numbers of burning fossil fuels
keeps getting higher every year. The increase of temperatures, sea levels, and carbon dioxidein the
last century shows evidence that Global Warming is occurring and man is the main problem.
First of all, what is global warming? Global warming is the increase of Earth s temperature due
to carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels also known as greenhouse gases (Global
Warming). The carbon dioxide traps heat which would make the temperature to rise, this is known
as the greenhouse effect. The main causes of global warming would have to be carbon dioxide
and air pollution that is going around the atmosphere, trapping the sun s heat which causes the
earth to warm up. Human activity has been a key factor to that. The burning of fossil fuels causes
a lot more greenhouse gases to be trapped in the

Why Pro Choice is the Right Choice Abortion is a hot topic in United States politics as of late, and
rightly so. Though religion, costs, maternal psychological damage, and societal morality are often
cited as reasons to oppose abortion, a woman s right to make her own decisions should always
prevail. Abortion should be nationally legalized during the first trimester of pregnancy because Roe
V. Wadehas declared abortion a fundamental right to women, fetuses are incapable of feeling pain

The code went on to say that even the attempt of an abortion, successful or otherwise, should be
punished in the same sense. The only stipulation was that an abortion may be performed if done
with medical advice to save the life of the mother. Roe believed that these statutes were
unconstitutionally vague, and challenged them in the Supreme Court on grounds of
Constitutionality.
Using the First, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, and Fourteenth amendments, Roe set out to get the laws
struck down. The most important of her arguments were in the fourteenth and ninth amendments,
where she argued that all people had a right to privacy under the fourteenth amendment s concept
of personal liberty and restrictions on state action, and the ninth amendment s concept of reserved
rights to the people. The court ruled in Roe s favor, voiding Texas s abortion laws. The official
decision of the court, written by Justice Harry Blackmun, cites reasons of vagueness, and using
precedent set by 1891 case Union Pacific R. Co. v. Botsford, where the supreme court upheld and
recognized a right of personal privacy. In justifying this decision, Blackmun stated that, In varying
contexts, the Court or individual Justices have, indeed, found at least the roots of that right in the

Supreme Court Case Essay
1. What is the role of the Supreme Court?
Echoing my forum statement of week 2, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) was
created by, and receives its authority from Article III of the United States (U.S.) Constitution in
1787 and ratified in 1789 [1]. As head of the U.S. Governments judicial branch, the role of
SCOTUS is to enforce the Rule of Law of the U.S. Constitution, seeing that the lower courts do not
undermine the Constitution and the freedoms and liberties it provides to the citizenry; they are the
ultimate arbiters in judicial cases. SCOTUS is comprised of a Chief Justice and eight Associate
Justices, who are all appointed by the President of the United States, but must be confirmed by
Congress, and serve a life term until they choose to retire, resign or are removed due to gross

Narrow Minds: Narrow Views
Contrary to what many people thing, the dramatic event that happened in New York on
September 11, 2001 when Muslim origin terrorist perpetuated the killing of innocent people in the
United States was very devastating not just to Americans but also to the rest of the world.
The world felt the consequences of this terrorist attack against America apart from condemning it
because it was a horrible and inhumane event, but also by America government official s racial
profiling citizens of all nationalities that set foot into America territory. As citizens of the United
States, we are concerned about criminality undermining our society; drugs, terrorist attacks and
violence are increasing in our communities. Although crime is a serious problem in our society,
government resources are limited and we live under a terrorist threat. However, racial profiling is
not the solution to reduce our social issues because it is unconstitutional, promotes distrust in
government agencies, and prevents America from finding a more inclusive solution.
Many people have different ideas of what constitutes Racial Profiling but, According to
Jody Feder, in Racial Profiling: Legal and Constitutional Issues, Racial profiling is the practice of
targeting individuals for police or security detention based on their race or ethnicity in the belief that
certain minority groups are more likely to engage in unlawful behavior (4).

Growing Up From An Economic Recession
Growing up in Ghana in the early to mid nineties was very challenging for me and most people I
came into contact with; yet provided the acumen to make sound personal and professional
decisions. Ghana was recovering from an economic recession mainly attributed to series coup d
Г©tats that destabilized the economyand crippled most state institutions. As a result of this, the
country experienced a protracted period of serious economic decline characterized by lax financial
management, inflation rates well over 40%, extensive government involvement in the economy and
an extremely high budget deficit. These weak macroeconomic fundamentals influenced the
government s decision to implement a series of strenuous public policies; with the goal to place
Ghana back on sound economic and social footing.
I woke up one morning to prepare for school; however, I realized that the airwaves were filled with
anger. Most people in my neighborhood were glued to their radio sets, waiting impatiently on the
government to confirm the rumors, about its decision to replace the current sales tax rate with a new
one; the Value Added Tax
. Around midday, the government finally announced its decision to
amend the tax system and outlined in detail various segments of the new tax policy. Under the
new tax structure, taxes will be levied on every supply of goods and services made in Ghana,
every importation of goods into the country and the supply of any imported service. The new tax

I Am No Taller Than Three Feet
I stand no taller than three feet, even with the monster sized boots hiding my feet from the frigid
air on the lake. The bright orange hat falls over my eyes as I struggle to keep up with my dad. I
slip a bit on the ice and let out a shrill scream before getting ready to hit the ground, but I don t

wrap my slender arms around his neck, hugging him. He carries me the rest of the way to the
small lakeside restaurant. When he sets me down on the ground again, my boots make a loud
bang on the wooden floor. A few heads turn towards us. One specific person that I notice is an old
man who s grey hair hangs a bit too long. His scruffy looking beard reminds me of my grandfather.
I waddle after my dad to the tall stools by the counter. I try to climb up by myself but I am much
too short. Dad picks me up again and sets me on the seat. He helps me unzip my jacket so that I
don t get too hot in the heated room. I look over at my dad and smile. It is the first time that we get
to go ice fishing for what seems like years but it s really only been about two weeks. He smiles
back as a waiter comes up to us. My dad asks if I d rather drink hot cocoa or chocolate milk. Hot
cocoa please, Dad. He orders for me and the waiter leaves to get it.

Differences Between Judaism And Judaism
Judaism has a concrete connection to the development of Christianity which has influenced the
teachings of the religion that would not be made possible without its presence. There are
similarities between the Christian faiths to Judaism from how the religions are practiced to the
hymns that are shared between the two. A primary difference is the historical background to the
discovery of the religions. Another difference would be the sacred text that are used in prayer
considering Judaismuses the Hebrew bibleand Christians use the New Testament. The Hebrew
bible is referred to as the Old Testament yet that might not be the case according to Jews. A
similarity from the two religions is the fact that they are both monotheism which is the belief that
there is only one God. Yet the two differ on the beliefs on the one that is called God or the divine.
Another fascinating similarity that the two share are the Ten Commandments. The commandments
were discovered by Moses on two tablets which has been practice by Jews primarily. The adaptation
of the commandments were carried over into the New Testament. Considering most of the Hebrew
Bible shares a cross connection into the New testament it is clear that it would not have been
created without the influence of Judaism.
Judaism is a temple based religion that is practice in a synagogue that originated in Israel. Moses
was the first author to the scrolls called the Torah. The verbal teachings of Judaism was how Moses

William Shakespeare was born 1564 and died 1616. He was an English writer and considered to
be history s greatest dramatist of all time and wrote epic poems and sonnets. His dramas

What Is The Relationship Between Prospero And Caliban
Abstract: Samuel Selvon is one of the most popular and internationally acclaimed contemporary
postcolonial Caribbean writers. He is placed apart by the sheer range and variety of his published
works, which include ten novels and a collection of short stories (Ways of Sunlight), a great
number of short stories, poems and essays to newspapers and magazines and several plays for
radio and television. He is also renowned because he became one of the founding fathers of the
Caribbean literacy renaissance of the 1950s. As a postcolonial writer, Selvon seeks to illustrate the

From their writings and from the real experience of the New World they created their own
paradigms. Many writers from the region challenge Shakespeare s depiction of Caliban as
bestial and brutal, and reclaim his image as an icon of Caribbean self assertion although
Shakespeare did not explicitly state that the setting of The Tempest is the Caribbean. The power
relations between Prospero and Caliban are suggestive of the master slave relationship found on
the plantation. In this context, the Caliban Prospero relationship leads to the larger issue of
language. Caliban is Prospero s slave. Prospero also claims that Caliban did not know the use of
language until he was taught by his master. Thus, the only way Caliban can express himself is
within the parameters of his master s tongue. Miranda obviously believes it to be a great honour
and reminds Caliban how she took pains to make thee [him] speak (The Tempest, Act 1, Scene
2, 16) and dismisses Caliban s previous way of speaking as sheer gabble . However, Caliban
himself obviously takes a very different view and in a memorable quote that is often cited by
anti colonialist critics he tells them: You taught me language; and my profit on t is I know how
to curse (The Tempest, Act 1, Scene 2, 16). He goes on further to wish the red plague rid you for
teaching me your language! (The Tempest, Act 1, Scene 2, 16) clearly not sharing Miranda s
view that she has done him a great service. George Lamming, in his collection of essays The
Pleasures of Exile (1960), argues for this reason that Caliban is imprisoned in Prospero s
language: There is no escape from the prison of Prospero s gift. This is the first important
achievement of the colonizing process (The Pleasures of Exile, 109). He

Antibacterial Antibiotics And Its Effects On The Growth...
Antibacterial antibiotics are a substance present in fungi, which inhibits the growth and production
of bacterial infections. The discovery of the first antibiotic, penicillin, was a turning point in
medical history, as illnesses that were once perceived as difficult to treat or even fatal, now had a
possible treatment. After the discovery of penicillin, the misuse and overuse of antibiotics become
common in many different professions. This has resulted in bacteriabecoming less easily detected
due to structural changes, with some even being multi resistant, such as Methicillin resistant
Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) and Vancomycin
resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) (Williams 2014).
Types of antibiotics
Antibiotics were produced in the late 1940s, with 1950s 1970s being the golden age for
discovery of antibiotics and overall, antibiotics are classed into 17 groups, with penicillin and
vancomycin being two different classes of antibiotics (Zuchora Walske 2013). Williams (2014)
states that antibiotics are classified according the mechanism of action, chemical structure or if of
broad or narrow spectrum. Board spectrum antibiotics are effective against multiple types of
bacteria, while narrow spectrum are only effective against specific, i.e. fewer bacteria. A method of
determining antibiotic response to particular bacterium, as well as its cell wall structure is by

human dimensions of global change. For about a decade now there has been growing scientific
interest in the global environmental changes resulting from anthropogenic activity. However most
of this research has focused on the scientific bases of environmental transformations with little

In general, the incidence of non melanoma and malignant melanoma skin cancer has increased
significantly over the past few decades, particularly in the United States, Canada, Australia, the
United Kingdom, and Scandinavian countries. This large outbreak has intrigued researchers into
examining the relationship of the growing risk of skin cancer to increases in ground level UV B
radiation due to ozone depletion.
According to the latest Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion issued by the United Nations and
the US Government, human influenced ozone depletion may peak around 1998
and will persist well into the 21st century. For the US and other mid latitude countries of the
Northern Hemisphere, ozone losses during summer and fall months may peak at 6 7% relative to
ozone concentrations in the 1960s. Winter/spring depletion could peak at nearly twice those levels.
Vienna Convention and Skin Cancer Incidence
The 1985 Vienna Convention built a baseline for international restrictions on the production of
ozone depleting substances. To evaluate the consequences of these restrictions the convention and
its associates projected skin cancer incidence under three scenarios: 1) no restrictions (the Business

He is also considered the patron god of merchants, as he managed to discover corn with the help
of a giant red ant that led him to a mountain packed full of grain and seeds. Legends also named
Quetzalcoatl as the god of dawn. This is one of the reasons why he is believed to be from a far
away planet. Also, according to Mayan paintings and sculptures, anything that arose in that period
and a good part of the structures looked like spaceships from the 21st century. Sculptures and other
representatins show characters wearing something related to spacesuits, and most of the images
representing the gods show similarities to what astronauts look like nowadays. It is believed that
Quetzalcoatl burned himself and vanished into the skies towards the planet that is identified today
as Venus. Could this be interpreted as an extraterrestrial being that has fulfilled his mission on
Earth and quickly disappeared in a blaze of fire as his spaceship went through the skies, heading to
other planets in need of guidance

The Federal Minimum Wage Essay
The selling point that has brought people to the United States for centuries is the American dream:
Prosperity, Luxury, Opportunity, and so on. Unfortunately for many, this dream has been
squandered by the receding economy of an indebted country. As inflation runs rampant, the value of
the U.S. dollar decreases, lowering the value of household and business incomes. This economic
recession has led many, especially those who only earn the minimum wage, to poverty. According to
the United StatesDepartment of Labor, The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour ( Wage and
Hour Division ). Some people believe that a solution to this problem is to raise the minimum wage;
however, doing so would ultimately result in a negative effect on the... Show more content on

An increase in the minimum wage would push companies to take this route as it becomes more
and more profitable to them. The end result of all of this would be a suddenly increased level of
unemployment bound to become subsequent with an increase in government funded welfare
expenses, weakening the economy even more. And while these effects are more on the scale of
large corporations, small businesses may yet also feel the effects of the minimum wage. With
even fewer resources to rely on, a small business would have a harder time progressing and
growing; a small business has only a small selection of workers who may be indispensable, so
downsizing may be out of the picture, forcing them to cut back expenses, thus stunting their
growth and leaving room for large corporations to take over the local industries. This, of course,
presents another problem in today s society concerning capitalism and a free market economy
when a small business grows weak financially; larger corporations have an opportunity to sweep
in and seize hold of the local market for specific goods and services, drawing money out of that
town and into the pockets of greedy companies. For example, a local burger joint or mom pop
store could be crippled by a turn of the economy, causing them to raise prices and cut back on
expenses. However, the local McDonalds or Walmart would only be affected by a relatively smaller
margin, spearheading these corporations into the

Examples Of Observational Learning
Application Paper Every weekend my 4 year old son goes to his grandparents house on his father
s side of the family. He really looks up to his grandfather because his real father is in Argentina
so he looks at his grandpa as his papa but when he comes back home from their house he is a
completely different person. He no longer uses the words please and thank you, he says the F
word constantly, and he does not share anything with anyone especially snacks with his little
brother. His grandfather tends to swear too much and this favorite word to say is fuck , he does
not say please or thank you and I know this because we lived with them for months, and he never
shares anything with my son even if he asks for a bite of his food he will always say no and give
him his own plate or snack. My oldest sons behavior of repeating and doing what his grandfather
says and does is called observational learning which is when we observe and imitate other
people s behaviors, especially those we respect and admire because they are our role models as
children (Ochman, 2015,p.14 15). This situation is a perfect example of observational learning
because my son is doing what he sees his grandfather doing. Role models can be very... Show more

Cultural Destruction Of Aboriginal Culture
MINOR ESSAY
From first contact with colonisers from Britain in 1788, Aboriginals have been forced to defend
their sovereignty over their self determination as a free and independent culture (Briscoe 1993, p.
136). In the present day, attempts to scrutinise historical evidence have been made to identify to
what extent the effect of British colonisation had on Aboriginal culture. The photo depicting the
team of Aboriginal cricketers is an example of this historical evidence and thus, the subject of such
scrutiny. Two separate stances have been taken to explain the catalyst of the near disappearance of
Aboriginal culture: cultural assimilation and cultural destruction. The former stance is a process of
how members of one cultural group assimilate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Memorialised in the history of cricket is the team of first Aboriginal cricketers that toured
England in 1877 for a series of matches (Crombie Kruger 2012, p. 9). On the surface, the tour
appears to be a benign and harmless sporting event, a logical eventuality of interacting cultures
consisting of Aboriginal Australians and British colonisers. Drescher (2010 p. 92) discusses in his
book that after the ethical abolishment of human slavery in the United Kingdom with the Slavery
Abolition Act 1833, public perceptions of differing races and cultures shifted from overt to covert
racism. Instead of kidnapping, detaining and enslaving Aboriginal Australians, British colonisers
sought to transport and exploit them. This was all occurring during the time of Victorian era
England, where a series of racial ideologies were dedicated to explanations of human difference
(Sampson 2000, p. 37). These ideologies ...established explanations of human otherness , backed
up by emerging junk science that legitimised arguments for racial and cultural difference
(Sampson 2000, p. 37). This science claimed that a series of physical characteristics determined
behavioural and intellectual capabilities and constructed a hierarchy between races (Sampson
2000, p. 37). Such was the construction of an ideology of race that was defined by superior and
inferior humans. It was the ideological manifestation of the global supremacy of British colonialism
and their systemic dominance of Indigenous peoples. This is where it is evident that the photo
depicts the destruction of Aboriginal culture. Prevailing ideologies at the time the photograph was
taken underlines the fact that it was not merely

Dressing Up For The Carnival Analysis
A carnival is an event that entails some form of public celebration which includes a simplified
version of a circus, costumes, masks and is aught time accompanied by some form of street or
community party. With this in mind, Pulitzer Prize Winning novel, Dressing up for the Carnival
stories, written by Carol Shields, enlists the reader for getting ready to go to the carnival. However,
Shields is not getting us ready for an actual carnival, The stories that were analysed from the
book are, Dressing Up For The Carnival , A Scarf , Weather , Flatties and Keys . Each story
ultimately offered its own individual flare and highlighted how effective Shields was in captivating
the interest of the reader through the entire collection of stories. Similar to the book title is the title
of the first story; dressing up for the carnival in which Shields presents the reader with an
introduction to nine individuals of whom we never see in the story again, and for that matter, we...

How do each story intertwin in Dressing up for the carnival. Initially Shields does not do such a
great job of establishing these ties. For example in the story Keys , the author uses the death of
a Biff Monkhouse, the man who introduced Europe to the famous bebop dance, to show the
reader that keys are often different and can have a collective meaning to many individuals: His
interest in Keys began at the age of sixty, at a time when he was recovering from a serious heart
attack . (Shields 99) But, the Keys have no ties whatsoever to this or any other story read in the
collection. So, with this in mind one must read each story individually and savor each moment of
humour or serenity from the story and when the book is completed one can then ponder if the
book is worthy of being classed as a good

One Out Of Many By V. Naipaul
The word culture means way of life of the people, thus the society, the ideas, customs, and social
behavior of a group of people that differentiates them from another group of people. It is the overall
attitude, customs and beliefs that distinguishes one culture from another. Culture is something that
is actually transferred from one generation to another not through genes but through language,
material objects, rituals that we daily perform, through institutions and through art and drama. For
example greeting guests by kissing both cheeks with hugs and serving Arabian tea with dates is in
Arab culture. In this essay I will be discussing about cultural encounters that have been shown in the
literary works and specifically throwing light upon... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Article The American Crisis By Thomas...
Paine is Temporary but Pride is Forever
The article by Thomas Paine comes from the collection his work titled The American Crisis. In it
Paine uses numerous rhetorical strategies to persuade the American colonists to secede from Great
Britain. Through his use of ethos and logos Paine is able to connect with his audience emotionally
and logically. He also calls on their patriotism and belief in God to commit his audience to his cause.
His work addresses the concerns he has about the oppressive British Empire controlling the
colonies. Paine s article is appropriately titled The American Crisis. Therefore, his audience is the
American colonists. The tone Paine has is highly impassioned. His use of strong embellishing
language helps emphasize the importance of his cause. He capitalizes words such as freedom tax ,
now and God to show that they are key subjects.
Paine first connects with his audience emotionally by using an appeal to the colonial s
patriotism. Paine s article begins with one of his most famous quotes, These are times that try
men s soul . He makes this statement to prove to his audience that he is aware of the difficulties
that Americans will face. He is aware that the sunshine patriot will shrink from service in the midst
of these challenging times. However, he promises love and thanks for those men who can stand it
. Paine guarantees the soldiers who will stay that they will receive glory as proof that their goals
were worth their sacrifices.

kindness in welcoming and looking after the basic needs of guests or strangers, mainly in

the relationship process between a guest and a host. When we talk about the Hospitality
Industry , we are referring to the companies or organisations which provide food and/or drink

  • 2. A Maximum Wage Research Paper People have different views about whether governments should introduce a maximum wage. While in some ways it may seem reasonable to allow people to earn as much as companies are willing to pay, I personally believe that employee remuneration should be capped at a certain level. There are various reasons why it might be considered beneficial to allow people to be paid extremely high salaries. If companies offer excellent pay packages, they can attract the most talented people in their fields to work for them. For example, technology companies like Google are able to employ the best programmers because of the huge sums that they are willing to pay. Furthermore, these well paid employees are likely to be highly motivated to work hard and therefore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the 16th Century, Panama was probed by Spain and Spanish became its official language. In 1821, Panama joined the Republic of Gran Colombia; a joint union of Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. In the colonial days, to be able to import and export goods between South and Central America, they have to operate through Panama. 1903 a treaty was signed between Panama and the U.S. to have U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build the Panama Canalbetween 1904 and 1914. A discovery of where the origins of the philosophy were born, and why it evolved and stayed alive in many fields of study to this day.. While many old school linguists see it as un principled and vague without any structure, is does have strong concepts and principles about language acquisitionand learning environments, choices of activities and reasons for these varieties, A look at what prominent linguists say about the advantages and the disadvantages of this theory. Then there are standards of achievement which make it inconceivable that any single method could achieve optimum success in all learning environments. Alan Maley (1983) said: Teachers need to offer a variety of activities, techniques, and tasks in teaching to give equal opportunities to students with different styles of learning so all students progress. Girard, (1972) said: Rather than fish in one linguistic stream, we should cast our pedagogical net in all waters that might bring us in a profitable catch (Dillon, J. M., and A. A. Long, 2004). It is a whole integrated approach, for example, a listening activity with coordinated speaking or singing and supplementary features like pronunciation and form of the language. In this regard Canale and Swain rightly said about the four dimensions of communicative competence, grammar competence, sociolinguistic competence, discourse competence, and strategic competence (Richard, 1986, p.71). It is hard to sum up Eclectic theory in a few sentences. It is not a scientific drill or methodology nor it a teaching tool or a learning method for the learners. The causes for change in language teaching, and in new language teaching methods, lie, in this view, in the main with social, political or philosophical factors (Pennycook, A.1989). Critical pedagogy is, wary of progressivism concepts characteristic in second language teaching. With the inception of applied linguistics, along with the concept of a scientific kind of language teaching philosophies changed. This was seen prominently in the audio lingual methodology. Proponents of the audio lingual method (ALM) thought that they could validate their teaching techniques by claiming that the method was based on scientific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Toothbrush manufacturers have poured millions of dollars and hours, to marry form and function in oral health care products that enable their users to brush frequently, comfortably, and above all, properly. Along the way, they have built the U.S. oral care market into a $2.9 billion industry, changed the brushing habits of millions and turned the lowly toothbrush into a trendy lifestyle accessory. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3. What are the arguments for launching Precision as a) a niche product and b) a mainstream brand? В•Launching Precision as a niche product: Niche positioning focuses on customers who care about the prevention of gum diseases. As such, it could command a 15% price premium over Oral B and would be expected to capture 3% of the U.S. toothbrush market by the end of the first year following its launch. Steinberg believed that with a niche positioning, Precision retail sales would represent 3% volume share of the toothbrush market in year 1 and 5% in year. Under a niche positioning strategy, Steinberg decided that CP would establish a factory list price to the trade of $2.13, a premium over Oral B regular and at parity with Oral B Indicator. If the company decided to position the Precision toothbrush as a niche product many positive benefits would appear: 1.Precision toothbrush is more advanced and is characterized for its technological superiority over its competitors. Because of that, Colgate Palmolive can be able to differentiate and promote something new to the market. 2.Colgate Palmolive would be able to charge premium prices if targeting to customers who are worried about gum diseases. 3.If the company decided to position the Precision toothbrush as a niche product SKU s would not decrease. 4.In case of failure of Precision, Colgate could reduce the losses if costs were to decrease. • 8. The Responsibility Of Child Soldiers Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. are words from the Thirteenth Amendment that was passed in 1865. However, is still untrue around the world. One issue that is violating this amendment is child soldiers. Child soldiers are a horrifying issue around the world that put the lives of many children at risk. One reason child soldiers are such a huge problem is because they are forced to take part in many life threatening conflicts. Another reason is because the children are brainwashed to do as the army tells them to. To start, child soldiers are human rights concern because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also have no real sense of fear, are cheap and expendable, and when indoctrinated young enough, they can be more loyal and ferocious than adults. (Macleans 1) However, when getting the children to follow orders, they are injured and stripped of their normal lives and made to believe what the armies want them to think. Many times, they suffer from psychological damage and if brought back to their families, they can be very violent. (Telegraph 1) Having these soldiers are wrong since while they are still developing, they are fed wrong information and have their lives changed. To conclude, children may be perfect for the job of a soldier, but the way they are treated is inhuman and children should not be fighting adults battles. The use of child soldiers is an atrocious violation of the human rights. One topic is that child soldiers are forced into extreme situations. The first reason is because they have to fight in hazardous places. The second reason is because they have their thoughts manipulated while at the military. • 10. Analysis of Bertrand RussellВґs The Problems of Philosphy... 06455401 1) The philosopher Bertrand Russell in his work, The Problems of Philosophy, comes to some conclusions of the truth of objects in our world. Through questioning certain ideas and problems in our world, he breaks down what can know what really exists in the world and what does not. Russell, an empiricist, believes that through our sensory perception of our environment. However, our own individual perception can be skewed, and therefore is susceptible to err. Russell gives an example of three people, one is color blind, one is sick, and one is inebriated sick, and one is inebriated, and ask them to describe the same chair, they will all give you slightly different answers. Then if you take that chair and put it behind a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This consistency proposes to Russell, that we, at least, must have faith in the reality of a single, specific, real chair. To this commonsensible belief, he also goes on to propose the idea that real objects cause the sense data we intake, so therefore must be related to them in a certain noteworthy way. So from this what can we believe and not believe to exist? Well first of all we can believe that, if we are looking at the chair, we can conclude the object itself is real, there is a chair there. Our senses take in the sense data of a chair, four legs, a back rest, etc. We then take this data and use our prior knowledge of other chair like things, and we can come to the solution of the object we are looking at is a chair. This logic applies to all objects in such a manner. However we cannot truly believe that certain things truly exists. Such as the fact that we cannot truly believe the existence of certain characteristics of an objects when it s subject outside influence, such as a chair in water. To the naked eye, the chair would look distorted, but it is not so, the water distorts our perception of the chair, therefore deceiving our view of the reality of the characteristics of the chair. In conclusion, Russell gives us an answer to the question, if our senses can be easily deceived and tricked into perceiving and reality that is false, how can we believe it ... • 12. The Dark Room Of The Room The Dark Room The dancers in the room constantly remain in contact with anything the dancers touch. The dancers progress from a wall to the arms of a person to a floor. The connection remains the same through these actions. The points of contact remain with the body, and the dancer starts exploring different perspectives of what the body can do with in relation to the ground. The dancers consistently in contact with the objects around them. In the beginning, a woman walks on the side of the wall while walking into an object. As a woman in a white dress comes out of a swinging door, she walks forward with her body leaning on the wall. The women maintain the contact of her left hand with the side left side of the wall. The room is full of chairs, so the women also bumps into an object with a loud noise while leaning and maintaining the contact with the wall. The noise is loud and drags on for the audience. The object would be a black chair. The black chairs are not noticeable because the room at the very beginning of the dance is very dark. It is not until several minutes into the play that you notice there are chairs are in the room. Another instance of contact in the dance is when the women heads to her chair, she stands and takes of her dress. The dress coming off revealing the bright white skin in contrast with the dark room. Four years after the Tsar was overthrown on March 15th 1917 Russia was still in despair and underwent numerous revolutions and civil war with a Provisional (temporary) Government. This Government chose to continue the war and failed to deal with the land and food issues of Russia. They felt threatened by the Petrograd Soviets who spoke of the change the people wanted and were evidently supported by the soldiers and workers. Many revolutionary groups had emerged. There were the Marxists, Social Democratic Party and the Social Revolutionaries. They all believed that a revolution would rise because of the exploitation in the urban industries as the government did not protect the workers as well as the common discontent of the peasants. The Social Democratic Party divided into two factions: the Mensheviks and Bolsheviks. The Mensheviks were the minority and believed that co operating with other opposition groups would improve the lives of the working class. The Five Characteristics Of A Good President Presidents are very important to the country, but the 3 most important requirement to become a president of the United States include, being the age of 35, a natural born citizen and a resident within the United States for 14 years. When looking at the American history today and trying to figure out the best one, it is important to look at individual traits that make a good president. For example, some presidents were loved by the public but barely made any accomplishment in the office while on the other hand some presidents made massive accomplishments for the economy and the country but were overlooked with disregard. The five important traits for a good president are Intelligence/ wisdom, honesty, leadership quality, respecting and hard working. Intelligence also known as wisdom means having the quality of experience, knowledge, and good judgment to make great decisions. Intelligence and wisdom are important due to various reasons. Firstly, a president must know every criteria and should be very knowledgeable regarding his job. Also, presidents are people who make decisions and judge for the ... The president should not lie to his people; he should also be honest to other countries for alliances and unions and without the alliance the country might suffer and not be well known. Therefore, people in today s day and time, will do whatever it takes to make sure they are their healthiest, and that they look the best. According to the article, Consumers Want Healthy Foods And They Will Pay More for Them, about 88% of consumers are willing to pay the higher prices for the fresh and organic foods that grocery stores supply (Gagliardi, 2015). This could be because the health fad that has presented itself today is much stronger than those in years past. According to an article that was published by the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, many grocers are finding that customers are changing their preferences about their food, and are now wanting fresh foods and organic foods in their local supermarkets. This paired with increasing transportation costs are causing grocers to rethink the ideas and processes of large centralized distribution centers (Ernst Woods, 2012). Sometimes they find answers to their questions or they find the solution to their problem. Often times, however people research their symptoms and end up paranoid and scared thinking there might be something seriously wrong with themselves. While some people feel the need to find answers, others argue that the internetisn t always as reliable as people like to believe. There are many reasons why people look up their symptom and there are three very common types of people that research their health problems. The first type being the people that find good results and end in relief. This is because they realize that the problems they re having aren t serious, or that the solution to their problems is fairly easy to accomplish. The second type is the people that have been diagnosed with an actual health problem and go online to find answers to their question. Researching helps them to know what to expect. It may help them regain a sense of control during a scary and sometimes helpless time (Weiser). For this type of people knowing information whether it be good or bad, helps them to feel comfort. The third and what I personally think is the most common type is those that don t have a lot of knowledge on their health issues. • 18. Physical Exercise And Mental Exercise Essay The articles by Erikson et al., Gatz, Korol et al., and Draganski et al. explore the concept of increased physical activity and/or mental activity having effects on the cognitive function and development or deterioration of the brain as we age. Although I agree that physical exercise is critical in increasing cognitive function because of the health benefits it provides, as well as the increased blood flow and circulation throughout the body, I ultimately believe that a healthy brainis not achieved solely by physical exerciseor mental exercise, but both. I think there is a link between physical and mental exercise, and that the combination of these two activities creates higher cognitive functioning of the mindas well as the body. The mind and body come together and meet to make an overall healthy individual. The Erikson et al. article supports the idea that physical exercise helps the brain by improving memory and the size of the hippocampus. Erikson and his colleagues suggested in their study that physical exercise increases the retention of information and improves learning capabilities. The way they measured this was by studying the increased or decreased size of the subject s hippocampus and levels of BDNF. The control group in this experiment completed stretching/toning exercises while the experimental group did aerobic exercise; the experimental group ended up having a larger hippocampus volume than when starting out, as well as higher levels of BDNF; the ... • 19. Elizibethan Religious Settlement Essay Elizabethan Religious Settlement The Elizabethan Religious Settlement was Elizabeth I s response to the religious divisions created over the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI and Mary I. This response, described as The Revolution of 1559 ,[1] was set out in two Acts of the Parliament of England. The Act of Supremacy of 1559 re established the Church of England s independence from Rome, with Parliament conferring on Elizabeth the title Supreme Governor of the Church of England, while the Act of Uniformity of 1559 set out the form the English church would now take, including the establishment of the Book of Common Prayer. Queen Elizabeth I of England reached a moderate religious settlement which became controversial after her death. Act of Uniformity The Act of Uniformity 1558, which required the population to attend Sunday service in an Anglican church, at which a new version of the Book of Common Prayer was to be used, passed by only three votes.[5] The Bill of Uniformity was more cautious than the initial Reformation Bill. It revoked the harsh laws proposed against Roman Catholics, it removed the abuse of the Pope from the litany and kept the wording that allowed for both a subjective and objective belief in the Real Presence in the Communion. After Parliament was dismissed, Elizabeth, along with Cecil, drafted what are known as the Royal Injunctions, 1559. These were additions to the settlement and largely stressed some continuity with the Catholic past: ministers were ordered to wear the surplice; wafers, as opposed to ordinary baker s bread, were to be used as the bread at Communion. There had been opposition to the settlement in the shires, which for the most part were largely Roman Catholic, so the changes are often said to have been made in order to allow for acceptance of the ... Plato once stated that Justice was about minding your own business and keep from meddling in the business of other men and in relation to the four major virtues of civilization, this could be interpreted in several different ways. Plato was one of the greatest philosophers of our history, and he had a theory that every civilization was built on four underpinning virtues that are Wisdom, Courage, Moderation, and Justice. While many may disagree that the Classical Greeks followed these four virtues, it was clear that in a sense, they did. However, it wasn t enough to consider them just, and thus, they did not create Plato s ideal civilization. To begin, the Athenians are not entirely just. While they may have been just in the eyes of man, in the eyes of woman and slave, they were not. In the article, The Paradox of Democracy and Imperialism in 5th Century Athens it reads, The idea of universal human rights would have been alien to the Athenians, who saw no need to grant women, slaves, and Metics equal rights to those enjoyed by citizens. Some say Global Warming is just a myth to scare people and it s just a natural cause, but there is proof that Global Warming is a fact and that the main cause of Global Warming is anthropogenic causes or man made. Man has overused the burning of fossil fuels throughout generations and the numbers of burning fossil fuels keeps getting higher every year. The increase of temperatures, sea levels, and carbon dioxidein the last century shows evidence that Global Warming is occurring and man is the main problem. First of all, what is global warming? Global warming is the increase of Earth s temperature due to carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels also known as greenhouse gases (Global Warming). The carbon dioxide traps heat which would make the temperature to rise, this is known as the greenhouse effect. The main causes of global warming would have to be carbon dioxide and air pollution that is going around the atmosphere, trapping the sun s heat which causes the earth to warm up. Abortion should be nationally legalized during the first trimester of pregnancy because Roe V. The only stipulation was that an abortion may be performed if done with medical advice to save the life of the mother. Roe believed that these statutes were unconstitutionally vague, and challenged them in the Supreme Court on grounds of Constitutionality. Using the First, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, and Fourteenth amendments, Roe set out to get the laws struck down. The most important of her arguments were in the fourteenth and ninth amendments, where she argued that all people had a right to privacy under the fourteenth amendment s concept of personal liberty and restrictions on state action, and the ninth amendment s concept of reserved rights to the people. The court ruled in Roe s favor, voiding Texas s abortion laws. The official decision of the court, written by Justice Harry Blackmun, cites reasons of vagueness, and using precedent set by 1891 case Union Pacific R. Co. v. Echoing my forum statement of week 2, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) was created by, and receives its authority from Article III of the United States (U.S.) Constitution in 1787 and ratified in 1789 [1]. Many writers from the region challenge Shakespeare s depiction of Caliban as bestial and brutal, and reclaim his image as an icon of Caribbean self assertion although Shakespeare did not explicitly state that the setting of The Tempest is the Caribbean. The power relations between Prospero and Caliban are suggestive of the master slave relationship found on the plantation. In this context, the Caliban Prospero relationship leads to the larger issue of language. Caliban is Prospero s slave. Prospero also claims that Caliban did not know the use of language until he was taught by his master. Thus, the only way Caliban can express himself is within the parameters of his master s tongue. Miranda obviously believes it to be a great honour and reminds Caliban how she took pains to make thee [him] speak (The Tempest, Act 1, Scene 2, 16) and dismisses Caliban s previous way of speaking as sheer gabble . However, Caliban himself obviously takes a very different view and in a memorable quote that is often cited by anti colonialist critics he tells them: You taught me language; and my profit on t is I know how to curse (The Tempest, Act 1, Scene 2, 16). He goes on further to wish the red plague rid you for teaching me your language! (The Tempest, Act 1, Scene 2, 16) clearly not sharing Miranda s view that she has done him a great service. George Lamming, in his collection of essays The Pleasures of Exile (1960), argues for this reason that Caliban is imprisoned in Prospero s language: There is no escape from the prison of Prospero s gift. The discovery of the first antibiotic, penicillin, was a turning point in medical history, as illnesses that were once perceived as difficult to treat or even fatal, now had a possible treatment. After the discovery of penicillin, the misuse and overuse of antibiotics become common in many different professions. This has resulted in bacteriabecoming less easily detected due to structural changes, with some even being multi resistant, such as Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) and Vancomycin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) (Williams 2014). Types of antibiotics Antibiotics were produced in the late 1940s, with 1950s 1970s being the golden age for discovery of antibiotics and overall, antibiotics are classed into 17 groups, with penicillin and vancomycin being two different classes of antibiotics (Zuchora Walske 2013). • 41. The Federal Minimum Wage Essay The selling point that has brought people to the United States for centuries is the American dream: Prosperity, Luxury, Opportunity, and so on. Unfortunately for many, this dream has been squandered by the receding economy of an indebted country. As inflation runs rampant, the value of the U.S. dollar decreases, lowering the value of household and business incomes. This economic recession has led many, especially those who only earn the minimum wage, to poverty. According to the United StatesDepartment of Labor, The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour ( Wage and Hour Division ). An increase in the minimum wage would push companies to take this route as it becomes more and more profitable to them. The end result of all of this would be a suddenly increased level of unemployment bound to become subsequent with an increase in government funded welfare expenses, weakening the economy even more. And while these effects are more on the scale of large corporations, small businesses may yet also feel the effects of the minimum wage. With even fewer resources to rely on, a small business would have a harder time progressing and growing; a small business has only a small selection of workers who may be indispensable, so downsizing may be out of the picture, forcing them to cut back expenses, thus stunting their growth and leaving room for large corporations to take over the local industries. This, of course, presents another problem in today s society concerning capitalism and a free market economy when a small business grows weak financially; larger corporations have an opportunity to sweep in and seize hold of the local market for specific goods and services, drawing money out of that town and into the pockets of greedy companies. For example, a local burger joint or mom pop store could be crippled by a turn of the economy, causing them to raise prices and cut back on expenses. However, the local McDonalds or Walmart would only be affected by a relatively smaller margin, spearheading these corporations into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He really looks up to his grandfather because his real father is in Argentina so he looks at his grandpa as his papa but when he comes back home from their house he is a completely different person. He no longer uses the words please and thank you, he says the F word constantly, and he does not share anything with anyone especially snacks with his little brother. His grandfather tends to swear too much and this favorite word to say is fuck , he does not say please or thank you and I know this because we lived with them for months, and he never shares anything with my son even if he asks for a bite of his food he will always say no and give him his own plate or snack. • 44. Cultural Destruction Of Aboriginal Culture MINOR ESSAY From first contact with colonisers from Britain in 1788, Aboriginals have been forced to defend their sovereignty over their self determination as a free and independent culture (Briscoe 1993, p. 136). In the present day, attempts to scrutinise historical evidence have been made to identify to what extent the effect of British colonisation had on Aboriginal culture. The photo depicting the team of Aboriginal cricketers is an example of this historical evidence and thus, the subject of such scrutiny. Two separate stances have been taken to explain the catalyst of the near disappearance of Aboriginal culture: cultural assimilation and cultural destruction. The former stance is a process of how members of one cultural group assimilate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Memorialised in the history of cricket is the team of first Aboriginal cricketers that toured England in 1877 for a series of matches (Crombie Kruger 2012, p. 9). On the surface, the tour appears to be a benign and harmless sporting event, a logical eventuality of interacting cultures consisting of Aboriginal Australians and British colonisers. Drescher (2010 p. 92) discusses in his book that after the ethical abolishment of human slavery in the United Kingdom with the Slavery Abolition Act 1833, public perceptions of differing races and cultures shifted from overt to covert racism. Instead of kidnapping, detaining and enslaving Aboriginal Australians, British colonisers sought to transport and exploit them. This was all occurring during the time of Victorian era England, where a series of racial ideologies were dedicated to explanations of human difference (Sampson 2000, p. 37). These ideologies ...established explanations of human otherness , backed up by emerging junk science that legitimised arguments for racial and cultural difference (Sampson 2000, p. 37). This science claimed that a series of physical characteristics determined behavioural and intellectual capabilities and constructed a hierarchy between races (Sampson 2000, p. 37). Such was the construction of an ideology of race that was defined by superior and inferior humans. It was the ideological manifestation of the global supremacy of British colonialism and their systemic dominance of Indigenous peoples. This is where it is evident that the photo depicts the destruction of Aboriginal culture. Prevailing ideologies at the time the photograph was taken underlines the fact that it was not merely ...
