The visual perception field is a very old are of study in psychological research.
From ancient Greece to modern day scholars, philospher and psychologists have
been studying on visual perception for centruries. As a result of people studying
visual perception for such a lengthy amount of time, ground breaking researches
have been conducted by many observers like Emil Emmert. In1881 it was found by
Emil Emmert that an objects size afterimage seems to vary in size based on
whether it is positioned close or farther away. When near by the object looks small.
And the farther away it gets, the size of the object becomes noticeably larger. It s
perceived size is thought to be fixed on the retina and as it increases the perceived
distance is also thought to increase consecutively. This... Show more content on

Ames has also restricted the viewers to only observe the room through a peekhole.
He also strategically placed the floors, ceiling and walls by slanting them which
manipulated their depth perception and size constancy. Therefore Ames Room also
had an element of suprise. Meanwhile Emmert s Law did not involved any optical
illusions, therefore Emmert regarded the perceived sizes of the objects in the after
image as a reaction of the body to continue psychological function.
According to Emmert s Law the perceptual constancy was thought to happen by
multiple depth perception cues that include; binocular vision, linear perspective and
monocular cue. In contrast to Emmert s Law in Ames Room Illusion there are 2
illusions that take place. By looking through a peeping whole with one eye, the
peephole eliminates all the depth perception cues and causes the room to appear
like a regular cubic room. The other illusion is the fact that objects swtich sizes as
they swap places in the room. This leds all the distance cues to be abolished as
3. Essay The Treatment of Women of Ancient Babylon
Some aspects of the lifestyle ancient civilizations lived almost seem appalling or
intolerable when compared to the very developed and carefully shaped the world
inhabited today. One of these characteristics of previous societies that prove to be
rather challenging to conceive in current times consists of the lack of rights,
privileges, and equity women had. Society maintained this assumption of a man s
superiority up until the women s rights movement of the early twentieth century; yet
with the two sexes essentially equal in America today, imagining a restricted life as a
female proves unfathomable. Looking back at the history of human kind, men almost
always subdued women and treated them as property. When focusing on the first...

A man had a decision to spare his wife in these particular circumstances as if she
was an unruly pet or piece of property. Therefore, one infers that life for women in
Babylon contained a constant need to assure a clean reputation and loyalty to the
husband. While penalties for adultery appear very serious and severe, divorce seems
to be a common occurrence in Babylon and punishments for incorrect divorce
procedures mostly result in a fine. In addition to a man s control over a woman s
sexuality, men held the power to divorce their wives for almost any reason in
particular while the law required women to provide a sufficient reason to initiate
divorce. For example, a man could divorce his wife simply for her inability to
produce children. If a seignior wishes to divorce his wife who did not bear him
children, he shall give her money to the full amount of her marriage price... and then
he may divorce her (Hammurabi). Women on the other hand, encountered many
obstacles when attempting to divorce their spouses. if a seignior s wife, who was
living in the house of the seignior, has made up her mind to leave in order that she
may engage in business, thus neglecting her house...they shall prove it against her

expectations of fertility, responsibility for the household, and compliance. These
expectations of women dominated

This sustainable change is desirable as it included the desire to maintain a current
desirable state, relationship, or habit. Therefore, the underlying purpose of the
ICT process is to help individuals increase awareness, and thereby decrease the
discontinuous nature of change. As seen above, the ICT is a complex system;
therefore, the process of change is non linear and discontinuous, experienced as a
set of discoveries or epiphanies. The discontinuities act as an iterative cycle in
producing the sustainable change at the individual level. The various stages

How...
Environmental movements in Britain have a long history with the Commons, Open
Spaces and Footpath Preservation Society being founded in 1865, followed by the
foundation of The Royal Society for Birds in 1889 and The National Trust in 1895
(Rootes 2003). These societies show the traditional side to British environmental
movements, with Rootes writing that environmentalismin Britain was thoroughly
moderate, respectable and reformist (Rootes 2003: 2). There are an estimated 200
national environmental organisations in the Britain with around 4 5 million
members between them (Rawcliffe 1998; Rootes and Miller 2000, cited in Carter
2007). Since 1991, there has been a surge in radical protestin Britain (Doherty 1999)
which have changed the nature of British environmentalism and forced an otherwise
closed political system to listen to the environmental concerns of the nation. With
reference to examples, this essay will examine the mechanisms used by
environmental movements in Britain and assess how successful these attempts have
been.
In the understanding of the environmental movement and the many organisations that
it contains, it is helpful to organise the movements in to categories or groups of
shared and similar qualities. Diani and Donati have identified four organisational
types based on two conflicting differences professional or participatory organisation
and disruptive or conventional pressure (Carter 2007). These conflicts result in the

All of the students volunteered to facilitate Consenting Communities because they
care about the issues of sexual violence on campuses and also believe that consent
education is an important step to combating these issues.
The feedback forms we provided ask them to rate the level of preparedness they felt
to provide these trainings, how they felt their students received the program, what
they liked best, and what they would like to see done differently.
Methodology:
This data was aggregated into graphs and text by the Google Forms. Each
quantitative answer was graphed and the qualitative text was aggregated by the
researcher by major themes. The themes allow us to understand the perspectives and
opinions of the facilitators. This information will help the programs advance and
become more beneficial as well as, allow us to understand how our facilitators are
impacted by their role as disseminators of this information.
Limitations of the datasets Despite the sheer quantity of the data available about
students perceptions, and opinions about Consent and Violence Prevention Education
on campus the data has a few key limitations that warrant addressing. These
limitations are as follows:
How serious are the students taking these evaluation forms?
What questions are these forms not asking? Or how could they be asking the
questions differently
How reflective of campus life is this data actually.

how Gregor s dominance as a male diminishes after he becomes a bug as his sister

of Kafka s own life and his relationships. However, the focus of this essay will be

Grete, like her mother, obviously cares very much for Gregor and is also terrified
by his new transformation, but unlike her mother, she tries very hard to hide her fear
in order to keep feeding and tending to Gregor s room;
His sister, almost fully dressed, opened the door from the hallway side and looked in
uneasily. When she noticed him under the couch, she received such a fright that,
unable to control herself, she slammed the door again from outside. But, as if
regretting her behavior, she immediately opened the door again, (Kafka).
At the sight of Gregor, Grete succums to her fear and shuts the door after seeing
him, but immediately regrets the decision and feels guilty for seeing her brother

and she believes that the right thing to do is to keep on loving him and taking care of

The ego is the part of the mind that represents consciousness. It employs reason,
common sense, and the power to delay immediate responses to external stimuli

demands of the instincts, by deciding whether they are to be allowed satisfaction, by

Characters in the film who are not lonely possess a mindset that is unlike that of
Theodore. Thus, if Theodore s loneliness causes his detachment from society, his ex
wife Catherine can be considered the opposite. Catherine is a successful author
publishing books and traveling across the world. When the former lovers met one
more time to sign their divorce papers, Theodore reveals to Catherine that he is dating
his operating system. In absolute repugnance, Catherine retorts, Wait. You re dating
your computer? Catherine s diction choice to use computer instead of Samantha or
even operating system demonstrates her aversion for a human computer relationship.
Catherine is not in a state of loneliness and does not depend on technologyto live her
life like Theodore. For that reason, she is the only character in the movie to speak
out against Theodore s relationship. As a result of her comments, Theodore attempts
to defend his decision. He replies, She s not just a computer. She s her own person.
She doesn t just do whatever I want. He attempts to justify Samantha s existence as
more than just solely a programmed computer and more like a self aware artificial
intelligent machine that possesses the full range of human cognitive abilities.
However, Samantha is not a human. An online literary review journal argues that
Sam has the capacity to undergo evolution of her identity. In a very real sense, Sam

People often do not have good communication with people they are close to although
they believe that they do. Even married couples can communicate like strangers.
Boaz Keysar reveals that people over estimate their relationships with other people
and they take the communication for granted. They are biased and can t make a good
judgment of the level of closeness of their communication.
There was a research and 24 couples who were married were asked to try and guess
meanings of certain phrases. They turned backs to each other while they were sitting
in their chairs. The couples believed that their communication was on a better level.

It can be considered as one of the most valuable types of technology. During the
last several years we have come to be more and more dependent on the Internet and
in particular moving huge chunks of data across large distances. The Internet
allows people to communicate with each other across the world within mere
fractions of seconds with the help of E mail and Messenger. The Internet also
allows for expressing opinions and obtaining up to date information from the
world wide web. The new software is being developed every day which uses the
Internet as the carrier for long distance voice calls and video conferencing like
FaceTime and Skype, which would hold the key to the future of our society. Whether
someone is sending e mail, posting on message boards, or reading the news online,
people are guaranteed the same freedom of self expression that we enjoy offline. In
other countries, the mere act of accessing websites that criticize the government is an
offense that can land you in prison. Australia, similar to the United States, perceives
and ensures a person s freedom of expression. Although, they have an alternate view
on what is appropriate on the Internet. Australia has taken the position to confine
adults privilege of the right to speak freely on the Internet, in order to avoid children

Stress and Perfectionism in Academic Achievement Between Blue Ribbon Schools
vs. Non blue Ribbon Schools Erin Altenberger Northern Kentucky University
Abstract Stress and Perfectionism in Academic Achievement Between Blue Ribbon
Schools vs. Non blue Ribbon Schools Damian, Stoeber, Negru, and Baban (2014),
describes perfectionism as endeavoring for flawlessness and setting extremely high
standards for oneself. There is not just one type of perfectionism; there are in fact
three different categories of perfectionism. The three categories included self
oriented, other oriented, and socially prescribed perfectionism. Self oriented
perfectionism refers to an individual that sets and seeks high standards of
performance for themselves (Chang, 2006). Chang (2006) describes other oriented
perfectionism as an individual that assumes that others should be perfect in their
actions. Socially prescribed perfectionism refers to an individual that believes that
those around them anticipate perfectionism from him or her (Chang, 2006). With
what we know about perfectionism and the potential distress it may cause, one can
consider that stress could be a component with perfectionism. Pope (2005) portrays
stress as the perceived shortcomings between demands and the accessibility of
resources to meet those demands. Stress is a feeling that affects people of all ages.
Stress impacts people in a large array of ways, which include emotionally, physically,
and mentally (Rollin,
16. Is Hamlet A Coward Analysis
What is a coward? A coward is a person who lacks the courage to do or endure
dangerous or unpleasant things. In William Shakespeare s play Hamlet a grief
stricken prince of Denmark comes home to his father s funeral and he seeks revenge
against the murderer. Hamlet is a story of love, loss, and overall revenge.
Hamlet is also a coward because of his inability to act against those who betrayed
him, but had other people carry out their demise. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern
used to be friends of Hamlet until they betrayed him for the King and Queen and
for money. They spied on Hamlet for the King and Queen and for money. Later we
discover that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were carrying letters and Hamlet states
in the final words of the letters That, on the supervise, no leisure bated,/No, not to
stay the grinding of the axe,/My head should be strook off. (V. ii. 22 24). With this
statement Hamlet explains that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were escorting him to
his death at the hands of the English. Instead of dealing with the traitors himself he
rewrites the letters to the English state Without debatement further, more or less,
/ He should those bearers put to sudden death,/Not shriving time allow d. (V. ii. 45

That is nearly the exact definition of a coward. He did not have the courage to do
what needed to be done. We eventually find out that the British were capable of

The primary source narrates about how back then before the universe was created,
there was no existence, no death or immortality (Fiero 15). It also raises questions
about the creation of the universe such as What covered it? Where was it? In whose
keeping? (Fiero 15). These shows the uncertainty of how the universe came to be.
Meanwhile in The Babylonian Creation myth, it narrates or tells the story about not
only how the universe was created, but also how the gods entered the world, how the
earth came to be, as well as the creation of Babylon and humans (Fiero 19). In the
first myth, the universe was created when That One which came to be enclosed in
nothing, arose at last, born of the power of heat (Fiero 15). In my opinion, one
canthink that back in the time, the people who created this myth believed in a
geocentric view of the universe where Earth was in the center. And that that One
came to be the sun which gave light to the world and allowed the prospering of
plants and life. Some imagery found in this primary source were darkness wrapped
in darkness , only illumined water cosmic waters, in depths unfathomed, (Fiero
15). These forms of imagery depicts or describes what the universe was like before
the that One arose. The order of creation in this myth seems to be that of the One
being in the empty universe before anything else and then when that One arose, he
or she brought heat as well as light in the world which most likely led to the
beginning of light in the world leading to life. In this creation myth, one can feel
like the One is the universe or the creation because according to lines 23, it states
The gods themselves are later than creation (Fiero 15). So one can feel like the
universe created the gods not the other way around. In the text, life began with the

opportunities to increase their own power at the expense of competitors. They are
interested not only in imbalance of power, but also interested in the maximum
weakening of their competitors. Every great power will seek to change the balance

The Wild
Out of the 1,979 average cases of animal abuse in the media each year, dogs take
the highest amount of cases each year with 60% of the animals being dogs. Jack
London portrays how dogs were used as work animals in the Klondike gold rush.
London had an adventurous life. He went with the stampeders to the gold in
Klondike. London had many adventures while on his way to the gold, but to get
there He didn t come back home with gold but ideas for books like Call of the Wild

carry important mail to and from America. It also shows that they are considerate
for the dogs heath, because if the dogs died then the mail would not reach its
destination and they would lose their jobs. London also writes, ВЁFrancois called

painfully for air and putting all his faith in Francios to save him. The dog driver held
the axe poised in his hand, and as buck shot past him, the axe crashed down upon

multiple dogs, if they lost more than one dog then they would make less time making
them not get as much mail moved. This would end in a loss of
22. What Is Von Moltke s Military Alliance
Von Moltke s second advantage (arguably the major military innovation) was the use
of the telegraph (in 1866) to link the headquarters of each field army with the
Prussian King and the Chief of the General Staff. No such means of rapid, secure
communications had previously existed in war. Von Moltke, whose job was to give
broad strategic direction and delegate powers, could demonstrate strategic
deployment by remote control, and communicate with the King. He entrusted his
entire correspondence to the telegraph and synchronised the opening moves of the
war from his Berlin office. Only once, on June 30th, did he leave his Berlin office
and travel to Bohemia with the King and the Great Headquarters. The importance of
this telegraph system cannot... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This left Germany to exercise great influence over Europe s interior. However,
Britain and Germany maintained strong relations, aided by the marriage of
Frederick III (of Prussia) to Victoria, Princess Royal in 1858.
The Austro Prussian War did not lead directly to the unification of Italy (because
Italy was almost unified in 1866), but it significantly sped up the process. Rome was
gained in 1870 following the Franco Prussian War (itself a direct consequence of the
Austro Prussian War). When French troops left Rome (under instructions from
Napoleon), Italian forces occupied the city and, after a plebiscite, Rome and the
Papal States were annexed to Italy.
The Seven Years War had long lasting effects that changed the course of European
history. Prussian dominated Germany became a nation that supported war and had
few liberal qualities. After the formal unification of Germany in 1871, the German
population became increasingly bellicose and grew used to autocratic leadership and
to war (actively encouraging war in some cases). Bismarck pursued expansion and
then the stability of that German position (as the dominant continental European
nation), through a series of complex alliances (sometimes better described as
surreptitiousness and trickery). With the effective dismissal of the ageing Bismarck
in 1890, the new King Wilhelm II sought even greater
23. Causes Of Gun Violence In America
What is the problem? Throughout the years, the United States has experienced many
different societal problems. All of the problems have the same dilemma being no one
can agree on what the actual cause of these problems are so they don t know where
to begin on fixing them. Some of these problems include equality between men and
women, environmental protection, political freedoms and so many more things. A
very big issue right now is the amount of gunviolence that takes place in our Country
every day. It may sound too obvious that the cause of violence is the lack of control
on guns, but it is actually much more extensive and the cause has many parts to it.
Gun violence has always been an issue in the United States. The public started to
notice the problem in 2007 when there was one of the most known school
shootings at Virginia Tech. Caitlin Hammaren was just a normal sophomore at
Virginia Tech and on April 16, 2007 what seemed as just a normal day of class her
life had been taken away from her (Why gun control is important) After that, it
again became a hot topic in 2012, when there was another school shooting at Sandy
Hook elementary school. This shooting seemed to really hit a lot of people because
many young children had been killed and injured. These were just two of the most
known school shootings. There were 64 school shootings in 2015, according to a
dedicated campaign group set up in the wake of the Sandy Hook elementary school

The journey to a better tomorrow
The journey, the experiences; memories, lessons, the steps to get to the destination
from the beginning, has seldom been talked about through the transformation of
wilderness. However, the destination is well recognized throughout written history.
During the Colonialization of America, there was a belief of wilderness being the
land of the devil (Nash, 2012). Which continued to evolve into a legal stance
known as The Wilderness Act of 1964, in which it describes wilderness as area of
undeveloped Federal land retaining its primeval character and influence, without
permanent improvements or human habitation, which is protected and managed so
as to preserve its natural conditions and which (1) generally appears to have been
affected primarily by the forces of nature, with the imprint of man s work
substantially unnoticeable; (2) has outstanding opportunities for solitude or a
primitive and unconfined type of recreation; (3) has at least five thousand acres of
land or is of sufficient size as to make practicable its preservation and use in an
unimpaired condition; and (4) may also contain ecological, geological, or other
features of scientific, educational, scenic, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This definition better brings out the realization of the dangers of the wilderness, but it
is still romanticized by using the words recreation and use . It is essential to evaluate
the evolution of wilderness by examining the beginning tangibility in the colonial
time period, the romanticized outcome with artists, poets and innovators, the
legalization for the betterment of civilization, and the journey it took to achieve the
glorified outcome of wilderness through the personal accounts of Christopher
McCandless in Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, and the autobiography of Cheryl

tests, we will also need to decide whether to use a parallel or a series circuit, we
will choose a circuit type based on how long the battery lasts and which circuit has
the most power. We will also need to find the most suitable places to put the
components.
Manufacturing to be able to manufacture and create the designs we have produced,

the finished product.
The main desired outcome would be to finish the green powered car with plenty of
time to spare so we can test it and therefore hopefully do well in the race. With all

Next, another cause to why tobacco is harmful, is because some mothers smoke
during pregnancy. When mothers smoke while pregnant, it can cause life
threatening issues for their child. A mother that smokes is much more likely to
give birth to a child with defects. Congenital heart disease is one of the most
popular effects (Banschbach 349). This is a problem because it is not only putting
the mother s life in danger, but it is not giving a baby the chance to be healthy and
free from defects; some of these defects could be entirely prevented by not
smoking. Not only does smoking cause heart defects, but it also can cause a lack
of oxygen and nutrition while the baby is in the womb (Banschbach 349).
Banschbach, found that many babies whose mothers smoke, are born too early,
and have a low birth weight, making it more likely the baby will become sick or die
(349). While these examples are the main effects, babies can also suffer from
simpler physical effects such as, a cleft lip or palate. Lastly, one of the most harmful
effects to a child due to smoking is the chance of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
(Banschbach 349).
Consequently, the use of tobacco is not only harmful to the person consuming it, but
it also influences everyone

A Repressive Society
For years, women have fought to get equal rights and create a society were women
and men are treated the same way. During the 1800s, society viewed men as the
person that was in charge of everything in the house, and he owned everything his
wife had, while women were just an object that was supposed to obey and please her
husband. Society during the 1800s caused Chopin to write about the issues that
women were suffering to create a change.
In the 1800s, society oppressed women in every aspect of their lives. Women did
not have an option when it came to going to work because they were always forced
to stay at home. According to the Cobblestone, women They devoted their lives to
caring, cooking... for their family and did not have time to pursue a career (Chorlian

women was to be at home and the role of a man was to work for their family.
Women also did not have the same rights as men. According to Cobblestone, women

Assess the significance of popular pressure in bringing about improved
representation and greater democracy in Britain in the period 1830 1931 The
period of 1830 1931 saw gradual yet largely significant governmental reforms which
led to an extension of the franchise from 500,000 to around 21 million. Prior to
1832, Britain s franchise composed of a selective elite of the landowning class,
however the 1832 reform act, although a disappointment in the extent of what it
achieved, paved the way for further reform as it brought people together in rebellion
(the Bristol Riots). This proved that popular pressure had the potential to be very
successful in orchestrating parliamentary reform. The influence of pressure from

Whether a revolution was possible is questionable amongst historians, however as
Eric Evans wrote, What mattered was that enough MPs and Peers believed that it
was, and acted accordingly. 2 It could also be said that unwittingly the government
had evoked an atmosphere of popular pressure in Britain as everyone had seen how
easily they had surrendered to the rebels demands. Despite the bill s limitations,
the rioters had after all successfully achieved the first piece of legislation which
was an incentive for future pressure from outside Parliament, hence quickening the
process of improving representation and democracy in Britain. The Hyde Park riots
of 1866 were another example of working class radicalism in protest for reform.
Similarly to the Bristol Riots, the rebels were destructive by force and although
there was said to be more mischief than malice , a policeman was killed. Both the
Bristol and Hyde Park riots were successful as they were each followed by a reform
the next year. I believe that the main reason for the Hyde Park riots victory was the
unification of the National Reform Union and the Reform League, two distinctively
divided (in class) bodies. This demonstrated that people of different classes and
backgrounds were able to unify in common aims in ways which the political parties
could not. Furthermore, this alliance could be seen as a step towards democratic
reform as it began to

32. The Doll s House by Katherine Mansfield Essay
Katherine Mansfield s The Dolls House seems to be a simple story about children
receiving a own ideas and opinions. Even though everyone is entitled to their own
opinion it is often bizarre to see how our opinions are based on those of others. This
essay will outline the events that occurred in the story which are a big part in
regards to the two different worlds of adults and children, and how they are separated
from each other.
The Dolls House is a story where you can see the cruelty of children towards each
other. This story is centered on the concept of three middle class girls who are given

Instead these two poor girls are from a mother, who is a washerwoman, and they do
not know who and where their father is but rumor is that the father is in jail. So
ideally the mothers of the children of middle minds with adult matters, children start
thinking like adults.
Another situation in the story that splits adulthood and childhood into two separate
worlds is when the Burnell children want to show their friends the new doll house,
but they are told by their mother that they can set up the doll house in the courtyard
but not allow their friends to come inside for tea or wander throughout the house.
Usually children are open hearted and when they have a friend over they want to
show them around their house, offer them a snack make them feel at home. But in
this story the mother of the Burnell children wants the children to stay outside and
not expect to be fed or be allowed in the house. The reason that the mother doesn t
want children to come inside is because they may mess up the house or break
something, and if she gives one child tea, she has to give others as well which may
turn out a bit expensive.
This particular short story is a satire about the two different worlds between adults
and children. It may be narrated by someone who perhaps may have been an adult
who was lost in a child s world, like an adult who still has a heart and soul of a child

Effect...
2. Background Information
This study analyzes the use of biofeedback in basketball players and the effect on
their on court performance. Athletes need to have the capability to modify, learn, and
correct their muscle memory. Enhancing an athlete s performance depends on the
ability for the central and peripheral nervous systems to communicate in response to
an active stimulus. This study has some variables measured including the reaction
time: the time between the stimulus and a bodily movement; the movement time: the
time taken in the middle of the onset and completion of the bodily movement; and the
response time: the aggregate time of the reaction and movement. There have been
previous studies that look at the use of Electromyographic Biofeedback (EMG BFB)
and Electroencephalographic Biofeedback (EEG BFB) and found correlations
between improvement in performance and responsiveness to stimuli. However, there
has not been an analysis of the use of Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback (HRV BFB)
which measures an increase in the response time and attention deficit in athletes. The
most important aspect of an athlete s performance is the ability to tune out outside
disturbances during a game or match. If an athlete can master that skill, then they can
perform at their optimum output. Having the ability to enhance their techniques is
important for achievement in sports, especially in basketball, where there are a
multitude of offensive and defensive skills. Most notably,

through the use of poetic and language techniques.
Literally, the persona of the poem is outside when some aspects of the nature around

The memories in the poem maintain a cohesiveness and continuity of experience
through repeated motifs such as the violets and the whistling . Memories also give
us a recovered sense of life, as shown through the final line of the poem faint scent
of violets drifts in air . This example of sensory imagery also creates a rhythmic
drifting sense linked closely to the stone curlews call from Kedron Brook . It echoes
images of the speaker s mind drifting into reflection and aurally creates transience
between the present and the past.
Childhood is portrayed as a time of safety that is often looked back upon with
nostalgia from an adult perspective. Monosyllabic words are used to show the
simplicity of childhood life, for example in the line the thing I could not grasp or
name . The spring violets are in their loamy bed and are no longer frail and
melancholy, and the memory takes place on a hot afternoon in contrast to the cold
dusk that represents the present. Childhood is represented as a joyful, vivacious
time in one s life, and the value of a stable family life is conveyed. The unexpected
integration of Australian vernacular in the line it will soon be night, you goose ,
adds a sense of freedom and relaxation to the otherwise formal discourse and more
rigid structure of the poem, once again reflects the simplicity and innocence that is
associated with childhood. The use of

37. Account for the Different Physical Properties and Uses of...
Diamond is a giant covalent network structure, having each Carbon atom sharing
electrons with four other Carbon atoms, therefore having four single covalent bonds
formed. These Carbon covalent bonds are extremely strong and account for two of
diamond s most prominent physical properties among all elements, hardness and a
high melting point. Diamond has a high melting point due to the fact that diamond is
a covalent lattice, hence, melting this covalent lattice involves breaking many strong
covalent bonds. This melting process requires a large amount of energy and, as a
result, melting diamond requires a high temperature, approximately around 35500C.
Having strong covalent bonds, diamond also has a high level of hardness due to...

It are these properties which allow graphite to be used to draw with (using a pencil),
as the friction against weak intermolecular forces on paper causes layers of graphite
to rub off onto the paper. It is this layered structure and the weak bonding between
the sheets that determines the soft slippery feel of graphite, thus, creating graphite s
self lubricating property. Being used a lubricant, graphite can be used at very high or
low temperatures for many different works, such as: steelmaking, wire die extrusion
lubricant, gear lubricant for mining machinery and to lubricate locks. While natural
graphite can be used in zinc carbon batteries in electric motor brushes and other
specific works.
From all of these uses, graphite also has the ability to conduct electricity, and we can
the reason as to why when looking at the electron arrangement in graphite. As each
Carbon atom bonds to three other Carbon atoms, there is a fourth electron
remaining in the bonding level. These remaining electrons in each Carbon atom
form into a sea of delocalised electrons, moving around the whole sheet of atoms in
the one layer. It is the ability of these delocalised electrons to move freely through
their own Carbon layer, hence, making graphite a good conductor of electricity.
Being a good conductor of electricity graphite, can be used as electrodes to an arc
lamp and to carry the electricity that heats electric arc furnaces.
Due to graphite s layered structure,
38. Michel Foucault Research Paper
Michel Foucault s work within philosophy has made important impacts when it
comes to understanding how power affects a capitalist state. Believed that history of
a country should how the past created a better future for society but in most cases
through history, that was not the case. One of the examples that Foucault uses is
how the mentally ill were treated in the Renaissance compared to the 18th century.
During the Renaissance period, the mental ill people were allowed to seen within
society and were seen as useful and gave wisdom into their society rather than in the
18th century. People with mental illness were put away and see as a burden to
society and seen as needed to being cured by sinister people. Another example that

As discussed in Rubin s writing, the five other ideological formations are sex
negativity, the fallacy of misplaced scale, the hierarchical valuation of sex acts, the
domino theory of sexual peril, and the lack of a concept of benign sexual variation
(Rubin, 150). Sex negativity is the assumptions that sex is seen deviant unless
through marriage or reproduction reasons. The fallacy of misplace scale is how
the religious attitudes reflect that sex is seen as a sin. The hierarchical valuation
of sex acts is the value that each type of sexual acts has. Heterosexual acts for
reproduction in marriage are the most valued when transgression sexual acts are
seen least valued. The domino theory of sexual peril is how to maintain good and
bad sex. Good and natural sex is seen as heterosexual, martial, and monogamous
and Bad sex is unnatural sex with kinks or fetishes. The final ideological formation
is the lack of concept of benign sexual variation. Is the idea that there is only one
way to perform sex and the variations of sexual acts causes difficulties for those
who do not agree to grasp. Ideology is important when it comes to supporting
essentialist formations. Ideology is the process of educating and enforcing the
normalizations of why the world is run the way it is. So, by having the ideological
formations in place, it helps support essentialist formations by reinforcing ideals that

Right Makes Left On September 11th, 1960, the founding members of the Young
Americans for Freedom (YAF) published their basic ideologies of in their Sharon
Statement. Two years later on the June of 1962, members of the Students for a
Democratic Society at their retreat published their political manifesto in a paper
known as the Port Huron Statement. Despite their differing political views, both
political youth groups centered their criticism on the same target: the American
government. An analysis of both documents revealed that both believed that positive
change could only come by the youth, because only they saw the real flaws of the
current system and have the ability to make a difference. A brief background of both

Both were formed by university students during a time of young political activism.
There was also a generational understanding of 1960. This recognition was clearly
understood by the writers of the Port Huron Statement when they wrote, Our work is
guided by the sense that we might be the last generation in the experiment with
living. But we are minority. Hence for the SDS members, they not only felt they were
the age group that knew best the turbulent times, but they were also the only ones
who fathomed the issues behind the chaos. Likewise, the writers behind the Sharon
Statement stated that In this time of moral and political crisis, it is the responsibility
of the youth of America to affirm certain eternal truths. It was up to the young
conservatives to point out the issues of contemporary America and call for a return to
the universal principles that the country was supposedly founded upon. Both
manifestos recognized a crisis happening in the US and sought to rectify their truths
politically, economically and socially. Moreover, the YAF and SDS both argued from
a similar point of view: that the government and its policies were the main instigators
for the political, social and economic issues during the early 1960s. The YAF saw the
government as acting beyond [their] rightful functions and thus has reduced the
American concept of liberty and freedom. Yet the Sharon Statement associated these
political intrusions to the government s role in the state economy.
40. Last Night
The start of my morning way pretty shitty to say the least. Waking up alone in a
big bed sucked, like really sucked. I had to start my day off knowing that I d never
see Swirly again something I was both okay and not okay with; and to make matters
worse, I had some explaining to do to Neon and Octavia, who had no idea where I
was last night obviously.
It was so stupid. I almost put everything on the line, and for what? A taste of
vengeance? A destroyed heart? Loss? Pfft, if I had known I was gonna get all that, I
would ve stayed with Octavia last night and comfort her essentially destroying my
dreams, which would wreck my heart completely, losing them, and try and have my
way with her. That would ve been one helluva night if it had turned ... Show more

Why not do it now?
Inserting my key card into the door, I pushed my way in and I saw Octavia on the
bed. She was reading the newspaper, but she quickly looked away from it when she
saw me come in.
Vinyl! she said, leaping off the bed and coming toward me. Where in Celestia have
you been? I ve been worried sick. I even asked Neon if he knew where you were, but
he said he didn t. Where were you?
I was... I sighed, looking away from Octavia, after which I sat on the bed. If I
wanted to actually be with Octavia, I had to tell her the truth. No lies. Just honesty.
I was with Swirly last night. She dropped by during my gig, and we talked for a bit
after I was done. Then that s when one thing lead to another and...we kinda did it on
stage, and Neon caught me.
As of right now, I had a feeling that Octavia would hate me for telling her the type of
pony I really was: An easy mare that would do it anywhere if it moment was right. But
that wasn t the case. At. All. Instead, she said, And then?
Was she asking me what happened next? I thought she would...never mindthat. Well.
if you really want to know, she took me to her hotel room, and that s when it all
happened. She made love to me, and we held each other close. We talked about us
and if there was a chance of us being together again. But I told her it wouldn t work
out because there was no trust.
After that, I pretty much told her that we were done. I never saw her in the morning
when I woke up. So yeah, that
41. Cell Membrane And The Border Surrounding The Cell
In an animal cell, plasma membrane is the border surrounding the cell that allows the
passage of enough oxygen, nutrients, and wastes (98). Cytoplasm is region between
the cell membrane and the nucleus, and that is where we find various types of
organelles of specific form and their tasks (98). The nucleus is an information center
that contains most of the genetic information (DNA) and it controls the activities by
creating messenger RNA (mRNA) so it can instruct proteinsynthesis (102). The
nucleus s outer layer is surrounded by nuclear envelope, which is a double membrane
(inner and outer membrane (102). Furthermore, the nuclear envelope has pores that
allow proteins, RNAs, etc. to enter or exit the nucleus (102). In other words, it is like
a gate that controls passage area between the nucleus and cytoplasm. Moreover,
within the nucleus there is another organellecalled nucleolus where the ribosomal
RNA (rRNA) is synthesized (102). Ribosomes are complexes that are made of rRNA
and proteins inside of nucleolus (102 103). They help synthesize proteins, meaning
that it helps create proteins in a cell. There are two types of ribosomes: free
ribosomes and bound ribosomes. Most of the proteins are made by free ribosomes
that functions within the cytoplasm (102). Whereas bound ribosomes are attached to
the endoplasmic reticulum in order to make proteins that will go into the membrane,
sent within certain organelles, or export of the cell (102 104). There are two types of
42. Nursing Activism In Nursing
Since the first days of nursing school, nurses have always been taught to advocate for
their patients. Standing up for them when they have no voice, assuring that they are
receiving the proper medication in the proper dosages, and maintaining their
humanity in their final hours. In 2010 the Institute of Medicinecalled for nurses to
engage in healthpolicy and lead in transformation of the US healthcare system
(Institute of Medicine(IOM), 2010). It has been years since this report and the
governmentis still lacking nursing representation. In the words of Abood (2007), The
current health care environment...challenges both nurses and patients who are often
caught between the cross currents of cost constraints and access to appropriate
quality care (p.1).
A Review of the Literature
Activism as defined by Wikipedia consists of efforts to promote, impede, or direct
social, political, economic, or environmental reform or stasis with the desire to
make improvements in society. Forms of activism range from writing letters to
newspapers or to politicians, political campaigning, economic activism such as
boycotts or preferentially patronizing businesses, rallies, street marches, strikes, sit
ins, and hunger strikes . Nurses have used activism over the years to change and
mold the career it currently is by striking for better wages, boycotting TV shows and
writing letters to politicians, just to name a few. In the daily job of a nurse they are
advocating for their
43. Local Church Formal System Of Power And Authority
Any organizations including church congregations are unique in its context and
understanding of how to function as an organization. One thing not so unique is the
system of power and authority. Each congregation has a set structure of how the
organization will operate and distribute power and authority. Surprisingly to some,
there also is an informal system of power and authority that often carries more control
than the written plan. The nearly 170 year old Coalbush United Methodist Churchhas
both an informal and formal organizational structural system.
The local church formal system has a very structured system that is designed by the
Book of Discipline: the procedure guidelines of the United Methodist Church. The
guideline for ordering the church provides a construction of checks and balances
between the laity and clergy. The pastor has a voice on every committee, but no vote
with the exception of the committee that nominates persons to serve on every
committee on the congregation. Each church must have a board of trustees, finance
team, a personnel committee, and an administrative council. The administrative
council is the central deciding board of the church consisting of a representative from
every committee of the church and a few at large members.
I was appointed to Coalbush beginning July 1, 2016. I have been observing and
serving as I attempt to discover the unique context and setting for this local church in
this season of their very long history. The
44. Analysis Of The Book The Book Of Titus
Paul is the author of the book of Titus. The book of Titus was written around the
years 63 65 A.D. The letter was addressed to Titus who was a gentile and a
companion of Paul. Paul called Titus his True son . Titus along with First and
Second Timothy are called Pastoral Epistles. The reason for being categorized that
way is because the letters emphasizes the reason for having leaders within the church.
(Votaw, Clyde W. pg.130 38) The book s theme is instructions to Titus on how to run
the churches in Creteand to encourage Titus in faith. The first readers of this letter
would be Titus, some of the leaders within the Crete churches, Zenas and Apollos
who Paul gave the letter to give of Titus. Paul and Titus most likely visited Crete...

(Bright, Hilda, and Helen Pocock.) The Minoans were the first advanced society in
Europe s history. The Minoans were found throughout mainland Greece and
throughout the Mediterranean Sea and the island of Crete. Around the year 6500
the Cretans were documented in hunting, fishing, and engaged in pagan worship.
In the year 3000 B.C. and the years following, immigrants from Northern Africa
came to Crete. They were skilled in Bronze making. This would soon lead to the
Bronze Age and the Greek empire would grow and become more powerful. In the
years after 2000 B.C. is when most of the palaces and the other artifacts that are still
visible today were made. (Kyriakopoulos, Victoria. pg. 23 24)
During the time that Paul and Titus were there, the Cretans were at a deplorable
moral level. They were dishonest, gluttonous, and lazy. Titus had to overcome
their way of life and preach the Gospel to them. Some of the offices that were
within the church were not being taken seriously, so, Paul listed certain attributes
that an elder must possess. The modern day bishop most likely would be
comparable to a deacon in some protestant churches and a bishop in the Catholic
Church. (Votaw, Clyde W. pg. 130 38) The role of an elder in this day in time
would have to be hospitable and friendly. During this age and time, Inns were dirty
and unkept. If you were a traveler you would want someone of offer you a place to

45. John Updike Moral Conflict
Moral Conflict vs. Societal Values
John Updike s A P is reflective and introspective retelling of a young man s
encounter with taboo behavior in a conservative era. The point of view of this story
is centered through the thoughts and perceptions of Sammy, a cashier at the grocery
store A P. The tone of this piece is analytical yet curious, as Sammy observes the
actions and reactions of the unanticipated circumstance molded by three young girls
who come into the store. The characters of this story keep the ball rolling with
conflict and resolution and exemplify contrast in their personalities and dispositions.

I felt that the actions of these girls, from walking into the store in beach wear and
leaving the store of their own accord, was completely justified. There are different
ideals of what is proper and because those ideals conflict, this leads to judgment and
standards to what is correct and deserving of respect. Many elements of this story
remind me of issues women face today. There are vague aspects of sexualization of
women s bodies and that concept itself leads these girls to be deemed as indecent. A
girl s bare shoulders shouldn t imply anything because a girl isn t asking for
anyone s approval. This story also reminds me of the point of double standards
between men and women. Since they live near the beach, men and women alike are
visiting on hot summer days to obtain refreshment, most likely from this A P. Would
the treatment of the girls with shoulders exposed be just as harsh and just the same
if they were boys? Most likely not. Overall, this story was written during a different
time but it still makes me hopeful to see (even in a fictional sense) people who will
stand up for those who are just freely expressing themselves without
46. A Drive Through The Country Analysis
In Graham Greene s collection Twenty One Stories the works vary greatly in topic,
character, plot and place. While the themes in several of the stories compliment the
other, one element of craft and its effect that is most prominent is the dialogue. In the
story A Drive Through the Country the nameless protagonist sneaks out of the house
to meet her troubled lover Fred. As they drive through the country, Fred s impulsive
behavior amplifies and both their lives are suddenly at risk. In The Basement Room a
young boyleft home with the house keepers for a weekend also leaves his house
without supervision. When he returns he witnesses a violent, haunting event. It is
obvious through the summary that both stories hold suspense. However, it is Greene
s construction of dialoguewhere the suspense forms and heightens. The narration that
takes place before or in between the moments of dialogue show us that the characters
do not say what they mean, therefore their fates and the stories future goings on hold
mystery. If they do not discuss their fears, desires, curiosities, will they ever get what
they want? Will they escape possible danger? These are the questions readers ponder
during the crucial moments of dialogue and without these questions the stories would
lack mystery and suspense. For it is through Greene s straightforward narration,
coupled with dialogue, that bring readers intrigue, mystery and ultimately leads us to
care about the characters and the stories endings.

taking the opportunity to attend Oregon State University is my everyday most
outstanding accomplishment. Back home all my family and friends tend to settle, I
was surrounded by great and ambitious people who would not take steps because
they lived in fear of the unknown or being uncomfortable. I know that if I decided to
not attend a universityaway from home then I would have probably gone into the
same cycle of attending a university down the street, working a job, living at home,
and not really being passionate or on fire for what I was doing because all of it would
have come so easy for me. There was no risk, as a person I need to be uncomfortable
because being uncomfortable is what makes me move. If I get everything handed on

48. How Millercoors Creates Up Porter s Five Forces
The fourth force that makes up Porter s Five Forces is the bargaining power of
buyers. For MillerCoors specifically, the main buyers are distributors. The
distributor controls the price by setting it on profit margins. In addition, distributors
are consolidating and increasing in power. For example, in 1970 there were 5,000
distributors; today there are only 2,500 distributors. The distributors are also
eliminating new competition. Two examples of this are how MillerCoors puts
pressure on itself to carry its own brandand how there are more and more regulations
on beer. Because of these reasons, there is more power to current distributors than
there was in the past.

Some of the weaknesses that I could think of are that the company has one very
large competitor that represents 50 percent of the market share instead of several
semi large competitors, so gaining the majority of the market share is a difficult task.
The second weakness is that the beer brewing industry has slow industry growth,
while the wine industry is growing much more rapidly. In terms of opportunities and
threats, MillerCoors has several opportunities that it could capitalize on. The
opportunities that stand out to me are the foreign market explosive growth, financial
markets, innovation, and increasing the awareness of sustainability issues among
consumers and employees. If MillerCoors took advantage of these opportunities, it
would find great success in several different realms of the competitive market. As
far as threats go, there are three main ones that face MillerCoors. The first one is the
competition that the company faces, the second one is the overall falling beer
consumption that is happening worldwide, and the third one is the growing
popularity of microbreweries and craft beer. These threats can also be seen as
opportunities, though, such as homing in on the creation of more microbreweries in
its market to keep up with the growing popularity and developing

By the phrase of controlled socially, it means that the girls movement and circle of
contact are restricted and closely being watched by him. For example, the four girls

Saturdays, the girls stayed home. No school activity, no friends, no parties, no
shopping trips. Nothing took them out of the house. The four girls will stay home
the whole day and have tea with Ah Kong in order to please him where he wanted
them to constituted his sense of home yet their voices were to be heard like
cheerful music in the background, but never loudly or intrusively which is the
ideal way of spending Saturdays for him. The dominance is shown as he set the
rules and made it compulsory for the girls to follow his ways by staying in as well
as not talking to loudly to each other. There is also a line that goes like, Saturday
tea was when he considered himself a successful father .. where he is indicating that
he enjoys playing the master for the weekend role as it is also the time where he
shows that he is a dominant one in the family as the entire family listens to him and

50. The Federal Open Market Committee
Abstract
The Federal Reserve System has three branches: the Board of Governors, The
Federal Open Market Committee, and Reserve Banks. The Federal Reserve
System (Fed) supplies and regulates America s money to all the banks. The Board
of Governors is the main authority of the three branches of the Fed, and it
supervises other banks. The Federal Open Market Committee is the most prominent
policymaker of the three branches and regulates the supply of money in the
economy. Federal Reserve Banks serve other banks, this is why they are called
banker s banks. There are twelve Federal Reserve Banks which represent different

Without the Fed, closing of banks would be ordinary because they would not receive
money from the System, allowing them to grant more loans and have more money in
their reserves. Without the lending power of the Federal Reserve System, our
economy would suffer from lack of investment and would not be the leading
economic force it is today. The early American settlers had no need for a central
banking system. Barter was the form of payment for many years in America.
Without the Federal Reserve System, Americans today may still be using barter as
a form of payment. Before there was a banking system Americans paid for goods
and services by trading cows or corn, or another product that they grew from their
land. Even on the prairies many pioneers used barter for payment as opposed to
coins and banknotes. It was not until urbanization, industrialization, and an
increase in population that the need for a larger quantity of money and and
national banking system arose. The country already had one form of currency, the
next step was to produce more money and establish more banks as to make these
resources more readily available for all Americans. Many early banks did not have
the reserves to supply the surplus of money that was demanded or needed to repay
loans. When banks did not have this money they were forced to close and this
created a crisis called a bank panic. A particularly severe bank panic in

Opposition to the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Century English Family of Love:
Not so Lovely
Intro
A Dutch man, Hendrik Niclaes, has been credited with the foundation of the Family
of Love. It is difficult to find details of Niclaes life, such as specific dates and
location of pivotal events. Yet it is thought that Niclaes is born around 1502. Though
the exact date and location is unknown it is known that Niclaes preoccupation with
religion began with the parents he was born to. His parents were devout Christians
and as he grew older Niclaes began to ask questions about his faith, which his father
found difficult to answer.
When Niclaes was approximately eight years of age he and his father engaged in a
discussion about what the Passion of Jesus Christ really meant for Christians. For
Niclaes, he could not under stand if Jesus had died to atone for the sins of
humanity, why at that point was humanity not sinless. When his father was unable
to answer his son s questions with any degree of satisfaction they consulted a
spiritual advisor, who was an Observant Franciscan friar. After the boy, Niclaes,
and the friar had a talk the friar was reputedly moved by Niclaes. He was fascinated
with the boys solemnity and, much like the boys father, was unsure of how to
answer the questions Niclaes still posed. Due to this questioning Niclaes parents
insisted that he not read at home, yet after much pleading they allowed Niclaes to
keep his preferred book, which was about the
52. Creatine Literature Review
Literature Review: Creatine Supplementation
Introduction
Creatine is a natural substance that occurs in the body, it is also a supplement that has
been tested by numerus athletes over the years to see whether it has a positive effect
on performance. However, there is anecdotal evidence that suggests creatine
supplementation may be the cause of negative side effects such as dehydration, the
increase of muscle cramping and an increase in blood pressure. One way the
supplementation of creatine can improve performance is by aiding the resynthesise
ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate
) stores within the body in order to produce energy at
a quicker rate therefore the most common athletes to take creatine are high intensity
power athletes who are repeated actions multiple times. Such as those doing long
distance events such as cycling, swimming and running, it may also be used as a
way of recovery for sprinters. A study carried out by Kreider R.B et al. (1998)
concluded that there were increases in the performance of isotonic lifting and
sprinting during agility after taking creatine supplements. Although creatine has been
believed to help recovery, research undertaken by Stroud et al. (1994), would suggest
that there was no difference in the recovery periods. This review of literature will
examine as to whether creatine should be recommended to athletes based on current
research.
Main Body
Creatine is classified as a nutritional supplement this is because it is a naturally
