The Outsider Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "The Outsider" can be a challenging endeavor that requires a
deep understanding of the subject matter. The difficulty lies not only in the need for a
comprehensive grasp of the literary work or concept but also in the ability to convey insightful
analysis and critical thinking. Exploring the nuances of being an outsider, whether in a societal
context or within the realm of literature, demands a keen awareness of the various factors that
contribute to one's sense of alienation.
To create a compelling essay, you must navigate through the intricacies of character development,
thematic elements, and the broader implications of the outsider motif. Delving into the
psychology of characters who exist on the margins of society, and understanding their
motivations and conflicts, requires a thoughtful and nuanced approach. Additionally, connecting
these insights to broader cultural or philosophical contexts adds another layer of complexity to
the writing process.
Moreover, articulating your thoughts in a coherent and engaging manner is crucial. Balancing a
deep analysis with clarity and conciseness can be a delicate task, as you aim to captivate your
reader while delving into the profound aspects of the outsider theme.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "The Outsider" demands a combination of literary acumen,
critical thinking, and effective communication skills. It is an intellectually challenging task that
requires a careful examination of the subject matter from multiple perspectives. However, the
satisfaction derived from successfully navigating these challenges and presenting a compelling
narrative is undoubtedly rewarding for any avid writer or literature enthusiast.

GAAP is implemented through measurement principles and disclosure principles.
Measurement principles recognize and determine the timing and basis of items that
enter the accounting cycle and impact the financial statements, such as the period in
which transactions will be recorded. Disclosure principles determine what specific
numbers and other information are essential to be presented in financial statements.
Basically, GAAP is concerned with: the measurement of economic activity; the time
when such measurements are to be made and recorded; the disclosures surrounding
this activity; and the preparation and presentation of summarized economic
information in financial statements.
Although smaller companies are not required to use GAAP, there are certain
situations, such as obtaining credit or seeking investors, which require, by contract,
those companies to also follow GAAP when preparing their financial statements.
Using GAAP helps the business and
Tumor Suppression Genes Research Paper
Tumor Suppression Genes
Introduction
Cell replication and division is vital for growth and development. The mechanisms
associated with replication of DNA are very precise. However, there can be errors at
times and when these errors occur there could be problems in reproduction process.
Some of these errors can cause uncontrolled cell growth causing tumor formation.
There are genes within the human genome that prevent this uncontrolled growth
from occurring. These genes are known as tumor suppression genes. They work in a
very specific way and are vital for proper growth. Though they fix errors, the tumor
suppression genes can malfunction or be malformed at times as well. When these
errors occur, there can be serious consequences.

Oncogenes are genes that work in the opposite way of tumor suppression genes. They
cause uncontrolled growth of cells and are activated when tumor suppression genes
become inactive. An example of this can be found in the mutation that causes
Retinoblastoma. This is a condition that is found within the eye which is caused by a
malfunctioning tumor suppression gene. The tumor suppression gene that
malfunctions in retinoblastoma is the RB1 gene. This malfunction causes the
activation of oncogenes. This ultimately leads to cells in the retina growing
uncontrollably and causing tumors and cancer to develop in the eye.
Tumor Suppression Genes and Caner Recently, a lot of research is being done
involving tumor suppression genes and cancer. Scientists have been testing tumor
suppression genes in gene therapy experiments. In these experiments the tumor
suppression genes are injected into cancer cells and tumors. These genes are able to
causes the cancer cell to die via apoptosis. Though it has yet to become a treatment for
cancer, the future looks promising using this method.
The Grand Inquisitor Summary
The Grand Inquisitor sees the humans as very lowly creatures. When discussing the
repercussions of Jesus having allowed humans free will, he mentions how You
[Jesus] judged men too highly, for they are slaves, of course, though rebellious by
nature (137). He previously had told Jesus that he had failed to enslave the people by
miracle. If Jesushad shown miracles as the work of Godand not let people have their
own free will, Jesus would have enslaved the people thousands of years ago by
showing them true power and might. They would have followed the teachings of
religionbecause they had seen before their eyes. Now the church had to wait for the
people to have faith freely in their minds. Because of Jesus failure to enslave the
people after
Social Darwinism And Charles Darwin s The Time Machine
The Time Traveler s theory was very similar and clearly reflected Darwin s main
points. One of the real social hypotheses of the late nineteenth century adjusted
Charles Darwin s speculations on development to legitimize nineteenth century social
stratification between the rich and poor. In Origin of the Species, Darwin contended
that diverse conditions supported the propagation of those species whose changing
qualities most appropriate them to survive; their posterity, thus, would be better
adjusted for the new condition, as would their posterity, et cetera.
Social Darwinism as often as possible manhandled this idea of characteristic
determination. Evolution does not prompt the perfectibility of any species, as is for
the most part seen, yet to the expanding flexibility and many sided quality of an
animal categories. Social Darwinism overlooked this thought and battled that the
social condition was much similar to the vicious common habitat, and that the
individuals who succeeded were organically bound to do as such and to proceed in
their walk to human flawlessness. =
Wells spots the gaps in this contention. In The Time Machine, the wonderful Eloi
appear, at in the first place, to be the ideal tenants of a propelled age. However, the
Time Traveler soon finds that the progressions of human progress have enfeebled the
Eloi; with no squeezing prerequisites for survival, they have turned out to be feeble,
sluggish, and moronic. While their human progress has
Dutch and Belgium Organ Donation Acts Essay example
Assignment III B: Dutch and Belgium Organ Donation Acts.
In Belgium there is a different post mortem organ donation law than in The
Netherlands, although they both have the same main purpose: they seek to increase
the supply of donors.
In Belgium it is presumed that each citizen has consented to the harvest of organs
following death unless an objection to such a harvest was recorded, an opt out
system. Belgium combines presumed consent with a practice of inquiring into the
wishes of the next of kin. One advantage of presumed consent is that there is no
need to refer to drivers licenses or donor cards, which may not be carried at the
relevant time. Another is that distraught family members do not need to make a
positive decision to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under no circumstances can organs or tissues be removed if the deceased has
indicated that he or she does not want this (1).
In my opinion, the Belgium presumed consent system would be more effective in
terms of the aim of the law. It is possible that only the more advantaged or educated
groups in Belgium society would be aware of their right to opt out and the less
advantaged would take no steps, more through ignorance than through a willingness
to donate. Although this seems immoral, it will increase the supply of donors. The
Dutch full decision system can be very effective, if every citizen would actually send
in the form. In an ideal world every Dutch citizen would respond, stating their
consent or not, and every Belgium citizen would respond if they would not consent.
In an ideal world it would not matter which system a country would use, both systems
would increase the supply of donors.
Since we do not live in an ideal world, we have to make a choice. Either an immoral
more effective system, or a moral less effective system. The Dutch system is to be
preferred from a moral point of view; People who do not want to donate organs and
through ignorance do not know they have to send in a form if they do or do not want
to donate organs will not have their human rights violated. As in Belgium there
human rights will be violated, but, since the person is already dead, cannot complaint
that their rights have been violated, which
Symbolism Of Danger In The Skeleton Key
Symbolisms of Danger After watching The Skeleton Key, director Iain Softley,
portrays a young 25 year old female, Caroline Ellis attends nursing school that takes
a job as a caregiver for a stroke victim; living in a secluded, decrypted mansion,
surrounded by a bayou in Terrebonne Parrish known as: New Orleans.
Consequently, while rummaging through the attic of the house, she comes across
some Hoodoo paraphernalia dating back to the 1920 s. Although; notwithstanding,
after talking with Violet Devereaux, the owner, Caroline still doesn t believe,
decides to do some investigating of her own on Hoodoo. Will she believe or will
she still hold true to her own beliefs? Iain Softley did an amazing job with all the
specific objects, effects, sounds, and other details used to help intensify the mood
with anxiety, suspense, and horror. Until now, I ve not realized how the comparisons
of these items relate to symbolisms; how they play such a vital role in literature, lead
to clues and nevertheless, add meaning to the story. Moreover, The Lottery, Shirley
Jackson, delineates a small village of 300 people on a clear, fresh summer day
preparing for their traditional lottery. Anxious men and women gather together
smiling, talking about rain, crops and equipment; meanwhile, children collecting
stones had stated they broke into boisterous play (Jackson 1). All the while, waiting to
hear the name of the winner announced. Conversely, it has a twisted ending, resulting

Descriptive Essay About My Small House
Clink! Bang! Crash! The my closet is overflowing once again. My small house is
maybe a little too small. I walked to the kitchen to get something to eat. I see the
kitchen closet is overflowing with pots and pans, again. The kitchen has a polished
wooden floor easy to slip on if you re wearing socks. Our kitchenis small, but big
enough to put items on the shining counter. I looked out to our backyard, I spot some
fluffy looking white bunnies hopping along, eating the carrots I left out for them. I
dragged my body down the long hallway to my motherand father s room. I complain,
This house doesn t have enough space! My parents lookat each other with a
depressed look and sigh, We need to find a new house. The next morning it was a
Saturday, I got dressed in so comfortable clothes and headed towards the living
room. I sat on the light brown colored couch. The couch had different patterns,
including the pillows. I picked up the remote and flicked on some TV shows. I
was in the middle of watching a show, when My mom and dad come to me with an
excited look on their morning faces. The light came in, shining on them like they
re on stage. There was a long silence, you could hear a pin drop. I looked at my
mom then dad and did it again. Until my dad finally spat it out, We found a house
were going today and seeing it! I felt my excitement was about to burst. At the end
of the car ride, I stepped out the car door. I heard the crunch of the rocks as I stepped
Colombia Research Paper
Drug Trafficking, civil unrest, and kidnapping are commonly associated with
Colombia. However, a closer look at the South American Country, which is slightly
less than two times the size of Texas, reveals not only a very rich culture that centers
on fine arts and language preservation, but also a country that strives for economic
progress and effective government. All of which is typically overshadowed by the
notorious guerilla warfare and drug cartels.
On July 20, 1810, Colombia declared its independence from Spain. During the 300
years leading up to that date, the Spainards controlled the country after overpowering
the indigenous population. Many indigenous people were forced into slavery; in
addition, slaves from Africa were imported. As a result of the harsh rule of Spain,...

Based on where they live, members of the population fall into one of three
Colombian cultures: the interior, the coastal, or the countryside. These cultures
each have very distinct customs and traditions that set them apart from each other.
Food, music, and clothing differ depending on region. For example, in the interior
region, which is rural, breakfast consists of pork, rice and beans, sweet plantains,
and a large steak with fried eggs. In the coastal region, meals consisting of seafood
are more common. In addition, styles of music vary between regions. Currulao is a
type of music played in the coastal region as it uses rain and rivers as its central
themes. In the interior region, the Bambuco and Guabina forms of music, which
center on themes of mountains, the earth, and lakes, are prominent. In the interior
region, men usually wear loose fitting pants and women wear loose fitting skirts, as
they work in fields. In more urban regions, among professionals, the style of clothing

Music Of The 60s Help Shape Modern Australian Society
In what ways did music in the 60s help shape modern Australian society People
today are still living off the table scraps of the sixties. They are still being passed
around the music and the ideas. This was pronounced by Bob Dylan, a folk musician
of the sixties: an era in which the music heavily influenced the culture of the time and
continues to influence the music and culture today. The music and artists of the 60s
influenced radio and television, the music, fashion and lifestyles of the people,
particularly youth, heavily influenced the popular culture Australia, USA, Britain and
other Western Countries. The music of the swinging 60s especially influenced the

the more vocal surf pop, commonly associated with the Beach Boys. This then

music with lyrics more about cars and girls to appeal to teenaged boys. The
influences of the surf music that came out in the 60s can be seen in today s surf
music, with bands such as The Break, Los Fantasticos, and The Sharkskins clearly
expressing the likes of 60s surf musician Dick Dale. By mid 60s, the rock n roll
stars including Elvis Presley, Johnny Horton, Lloyd Price and other acts that were
popular earlier in the decade and the previous decade and even the newer surf music
began to be overtaken by the British bands that emerged and dominated the charts.
The British Invasion acts include Beatles, The Animals, The Who, Herman s

acid rock movements had filtered into Australia. This type of music then evolved
into progressive rock and other genres of music that are still popular today. Music has

Narrative Essay On Count Dracula
Count Dracula Max, Gypsie come out of the woods and back in the cabin Count
Dracula is up!!! yelled their Mom. Coming! Max yelled and the two twins ran
back to their cabin. Mom can you tell us about the story of Grandpa Mark and his
encounter with Count Dracula? asked Max You said you would the next time we

Grandpa was going out in the woods to hunt for deer, he came upon a deer dead on
the ground. He looked down at the deer to see what looked like two fang marks
dung into the side of the deer. Wondering what had happened he looked around to
find a trail of blood. When he followed the trail of blood to a dark cave. When he
heard a sudden whoosh from inside and screeching the hair on the back of his neck
began to rise. He walked in with his gun pointed forward. When he saw a shadow
of a monster on the wall, he pointed the gun towards the shadow when a rat crawled
out. Thinking of how silly he had been thinking there was something weird in the
cave as he was walking out he suddenly was picked off the ground and banged
against the wall falling unconscious. When he woke he found two red eyes staring
straight at him. The eyes were nothing compared to the bats glistening fangs and
huge size. He looked to see his gun behind his back. Slowly he picked it up, shot the
bat and ran for all he was worth. Finishing the story she told the two it was time to go
to bed. Okay Mom Gypsie said. As

1. Why is information security a management problem? What can management do
that Technology cannot?
Management is an information problem due to the fact that policymaking and
training of securing systems from users fall into the responsibility of their role. These
responsibilities can include limiting access as well as disabling certain functions that
are not related to the organizations function. Management can set policies that may
arise due to improper uses or manipulations of systems and asses the threats that are
unknown due to the introduction of new hardware and software. 2. Why is data the

5. What is information extortion? Describe how such an attack can cause losses, using
an example not found in the text.
Information extortion happens when an insider or outsider gain information about an
organization and demands some form of compensation in exchange for the
information. An example could be something like a person creating a code to obtain
information of how to enter a restricted part of the network and having the ability to
mask their identity and hide within the system. Using that info, a person could sell
the company an intrusion /detection or firewall software in exchange for the codes.
6. Why do employees constitute one of the greatest threats to information security?
The employees are considered the greatest threats due to the daily interaction of the
company s data. The employee can also forget to log off, send the data to people in
email attachment to either inside or outside the company as well as someone actually
passing along passwords to access to the system. 7. What measures can individuals
take to protect against shoulder surfing?
A measure to take would be to install a screen filter to distort the view of the monitor
as well as being aware of your surrounding when entering certain information such as
passwords. 8. How

The main strength of the Geely Automotive Holdings, Ltd. is their focused research

(which is significant when compared to Toyota s 5% investment) in research and
development and focus much of their company s efforts on their Geely Automobile

Since 2008, they have had some ups and downs due to their acquisition of Volvo, but
they are still relatively strong when in comparison to their Chinese competitors.
Weaknesses
China has long been considered a nation that produces poor quality products. All
Chinese products have long had a reputation for shoddy workmanship in the eyes of
overseas consumers and the abysmal failure of the Landwind SUV, made by Chinese
automaker Jiangling Motors, during its international safety test that scored 0 out of 5
in passenger cab protection surely didn t create an exception for their automobile
products (Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner, 2010). This puts Geely automotive at an extreme
disadvantage when compared to their industry competitors (such as Toyota, Chrysler,
and Volkswagen etc.) in overseas markets as they will need to work hard to
differentiate their brands from the detrimental brand recognition of other Chinese
product based company s. They have not attempted to remedy this weakness directly
(by advertising industry crash test comparisons, promoting the life span of their
vehicle in comparison to competitors etc.); however, they have attempted to work
around it by focusing on their research and development which increases product
innovation and gives Geely unique and hard to imitate competitive advantages. This
weakness of perceived poor quality by their overseas consumers will
King Arthur Literary Analysis
The name King Arthur appears throughout a countless amount of literature, stories,
cinema, and legend. King Arthur has always been a long standing icon of heroism,
and heroism is a theme mankind takes pleasure in romanticizing. Arthurian
Romance is the classic example of good versus evil, knights in shining armor,
forbidden love, and sorcery; the basic elements of a romanticized tale. And in a dark
time where religion clashed, empires fought in epic battles, and the people of Britain
suffered from poverty and disease, Arthurian legend was needed to lift the spirits of
the hopeless. Arthurian Romance is an accurate portrayal of the time period better
known as the Medieval Ages because it takes the woes and misfortunate events of that

This split was born from disputes over whether the Pope could marry and
iconoclasm (similar to worshipping false idols) and the use of local languages in
church. They were even in dispute regarding the nature of God. The Crusades were
another religious dispute. The Crusades were military campaigns undertaken by
European Christians of the eleventh through the fourteenth centuries to take other the
Holy Land and convert Muslims to Christianity. The First Crusade was a response
to the Seljuk Turks conquering the Holy Land (present day Israel and Palestine).
However, most of these conquests were failures and achieved nothing except for
interactions with the Arab world (in both beneficial and devastating ways). Lastly,
there was the Inquisition. This was a formalized interrogation and persecution
process of heretics (including satanic or witch like behavior). Punishment for people
suspected of heresy was torture and execution. The Church in the Middle Ages is
clearly an influential factor of these times. The Medieval Ages also saw quite a bit of
political changes. The Carolingian, established by Charles Martel, ruled present day
France, Belgium, Germany and Northern Italy. His grandson, Charlemagne
established the Holy Roman Empire. In the North, Vikings and other Scandinavian
became notorious for raiding Roman Catholic monasteries. In France, Vikings were
referred to as Normans. They conquered Anglo Saxon England in 1066. As mentioned

Ripeness
1Introduction
Fruits are commercially vital and nutritionally crucial food constituent. Forming an
element of a balanced diet, fruits supply essential growth governing factors required
for good health and play a critical role in human nutrition. Distributed widely in
nature, their economic values are influenced by comparatively short ripening period
and short post harvest life. The assessment and maintenance of the quality of fruits
and vegetables are very difficult task. The timely detection of fruit ripeness is very
important as it is related to the profitability and also competitiveness of the
producers as well as processors. During harvesting and handling it is common that
fruits are subject to damage because it is not possible always to
Case Study Of Tesla Motors
Tesla Motors is a very unique automotive company in that it produces vehicles that
are powered by electricity. This is a fairly new market and one more and more
people are investing in. Each year, more and more people are purchasing vehicles
that rely on electricity to operate, thus companies that produce such vehicles are
generating income. Tesla, specifically, is making a lot more profit than they are

In 2015, Tesla sold 10,045 Model S cars which was a 55% increase in sales of this

are doing, how many expectations they are exceeding increasingly each year, the
massive amount of profit annually, and the growing market of electric motor
vehicles, I believe Tesla Motors will be around for quite some time and, with this
information, I confirm it is a stable company. The goal of Tesla Motors is to create
affordable mass market electric vehicles in an effort to reduce carbon emissions,
along with water and land pollution generated by oil and gasoline, two required
ingredients in the operation of ordinary motorized vehicles that control 99% of

SUNY Oswego-Personal Narrative
By the end of last summer I had everything packed and I was ready to go. I
completed the checklist and reviewed it once more. School supplies, check;
bedding, check; clothes, check; refrigerator, check; TV, check; food, check; etc.
Finally, I was able to gain independence from my parents and everything else I had
left behind at home. Early in the morning of late August 2014, I was off to college. I
believed that SUNY Oswego was the best fit for me both education and socially wise.
SUNY Oswego is known for its windy and cloudy climate since it sits right on Lake
Ontario and is known for its Business Program.
Soon, I was unpacking my items into one of the hundreds or maybe even

the darkness that was consuming me but nothing was working. I tried going out to
dinner with friends , joining different clubs, putting on music, and turning on all
the lights. Every day and night I would wait for the routine Skype call from my
closest friend back home. I would take any chance I could get to go home and visit
the friends and family I left lacked at Oswego. Finals flew right by and so did
winter break. Soon enough, I was back at Oswego for the Spring Semester. However
I moved dorms, hoping this would fill the empty hole that was consuming me. It was

Micro Controller At Mega
Micro Controller AT Mega 328 In the area of control and automation, the need for
some processing unit became indispensable in a wide variety of applications. Among
these, microcontrollers stand as a lower cost alternative, satisfactory reliability,
simplicity, reduced consumption energy, however, with limited memory capacity and
processing.
A microcontroller contains a processor, memory access and peripheral input
/ output. It is a microprocessor that can be programmed for specific functions, in
contrast to other general purpose microprocessors (such as those used in PCs).
Basically, the use of a microcontroller is in the processing of data from one of your
peripherals, with the set of output data. For example, send data via serial port or
generate a reaction in system as an LED light.
The architecture of a microcontroller generally consists of a core processing, bus and
Peripherals:
Processing core consists of the data processor (calculations, flow control program,
etc.) and administration of peripherals.
Bus is divided into data and address, is on the lines of communication between the
processor and peripherals.
Peripherals characterize the set of features available by the microcontroller and are
controlled by the processor. For example, memory, serial port, parallel port and AD

The Pine Is The Oldest Living Organism On The Planet
Growing in only six states the bristlecone pine is the oldest living organism on the
planet. At 4,765 years old the Methuselah is the oldest documented living
bristlecone there is, being almost 1,000 years older than its counterparts of the
species. The age of this tree can be determined by the amount of rings that are found
when the inner truck is exposed. There is where the truth of the extraordinary tree
and its undeniable ability to outlive all other organisms lies. The bristlecone having
the ability to outlive all other organisms can be questioned but instead of asking how
it lives so long it should be questioned on the reasons for its lengthy pace to die.
The bristlecone pine is known to grow in the White Mountains of eastern California.
In that area conditions are not most desirable and ideal for plants to grow, however
the bristlecone has managed to withstand the harsh conditions and surpass the hands
of time. The White Mountains are an area that experiences short summers with a
season for growing only being measured at several weeks. These mountains also
adhere to strong dry winds that travel against rocky souls. These type of conditions
cause any rain water that may fall to either drain off to fast for the plant to absorb or
the water to just evaporate (Matthews, M). With such harsh conditions it is amazing
that the bristlecone is still standing as the oldest living organism, unless it is because
of these harsh conditions that the tree has such longevity.

impulsively. When you deal with the passive aggressive person, try to remain calm
and give them the attention they seek in some portions so you do not get
overwhelmed. When you are dealing with a passive aggressive boss, you need to
let them think they have the control and just continue to do the work as you were
trained, unless something has changed in the policy. Conclusion Passive
aggressive people are attention seekers and they want people to hear them even if
the way they present themselves is not very professional. Each person you deal
with may unconsciously be passive aggressive and you have to learn how to not be
drawn into the vicious circle. Learning how to take those people with a grain of salt
and allow yourself the chance to decompress after work or find a trusted person in
your life you can vent
Role Of Religion In African American Culture
In today s society, people are including less religion and faith in their daily lives. In
fact, religion is apart of our culture. It plays an important role in our faith and
culture despite how people secularize it. We learn where we descend from and how
being religious had always been apart our whole life. Anthropologists included how
religionhelps us understand big questions in order of us to grow, be better people. So
as to understand, we have religious rituals like receiving communion or even
attending mass on Sunday s. Society nowadays would rather separate from religious
connection and influence. Society is slowly moving away from the Church but we
can prevent that by showing how important religion is in our culture. African culture

The first recorded violence between Arabs and Jews in 1882, and only increased as
more Jewish people immigrated to Palestine, and the development of Palestinian
nationalism. The massive influx of Jewish immigrants to Palestine was perceived
by the Arab population as a threat to their national identity. During the 1920 s
relations deteriorated between the Arab and Jewish populations, and led to
hostility between the two group becoming more intense. In 1921 the first major
riots in Palestine against the Jewish population erupted, the Jaffa riots. The
escalation of tensions between the two groups led to the 1929 Palestine riots. In
these riots Jews were massacred in Hebron, and devastation took place in
Jerusalem and Safed. Finally, there was the 1936 39 Arab revolt in Palestine.
During the revolt, Palestinian Arabs rioted and murdered Jews. The revolt was
instigated by the Supreme Muslim Council in 1936. The outbreaks of violence
were responded to by the British with several reports, inquiries, and commissions.
The Haycraft Commission of Inquiry in 1921, the Shaw Report in 1930, the Peel
Commission of 1936 37, the Woodhead Commission of 1938, and the White Paper
of 1939. A two state solution was proposed as an end to the conflict in the Peel
Commission, and was the first to do so. The proposed solution was to separate
Palestine into two states, one Jewish state and one Arab
Stanford Prison Experiment Analysis
The Lord of the Flies book is very similar to the movie, Stanford Prison Experiment.
The book is about some kids surviving a plane crash and living on a stranded island.
The boys find themselves without any parents or anyone in charge, so they find
themselves a chief, leading to drama and many conflicts. Throughout the many
conflicts, William Golding, author of the novel, shows how important power can
be in desperate times and how it can change a person within time of being in
command. Characters like Ralph, Jack, and Piggy represent the types of people
when it comes to power. The film, The Stanford Prison Experiment (SPE), was a
huge attempt to investigate the psychological effects of anticipated power, focusing
on the struggle between prisoners and prison officers. It was conducted at Stanford
University between August 14 20, 1971, by a research group led by psychology
professor, Philip Zimbardo. It is clear in both Golding s novel and Zimbardo s
experiment that it is human nature to abuse one s power.
Throughout the story, power is a great factor in the book, as it is in the Stanford
experiment. In The Lord of the Flies, Ralph was the high chief as Zimbardo was the
high president of the experiment. Ralph had all the great qualities to be a good
leader except one, which was to have the intellect to come up with ideas for all the
kids. Without having the smarts, Ralph struggled to brainstorm ideas for the group to
survive on the island. Although Piggy, another character
Trigger Finger Research Paper
Introduction
Trigger finger (stenosing tenosynovitis) is a condition that causes a finger to get stuck
in a bent position. Each finger has a tough, cord like tissue that connects muscle to
bone (tendon) and is surrounded by a tunnel of tissue (tendon sheath). To move your
finger, your tendon needs to slide freely through the sheath. Trigger finger happens
when the tendon or sheath thicken, making it difficult to move your finger.
Trigger finger can affect any finger or thumb. It may affect more than one finger.
Mild cases may clear up with rest and medicine. Severe cases require more treatment.
What are the causes?
Trigger finger is caused by a thickened finger tendon or tendon sheath. The cause of
this thickening is not known.
What increases the risk?
The following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

finger.
Being unable to straighten your finger.
How is this diagnosed?
This condition is diagnosed based on your symptoms and a physical exam of your
finger(s).
How is this treated?
This condition is treated by:
Resting your finger and avoiding activities that make symptoms worse.
Wearing a finger splint to keep your finger in a slightly bent position.
Taking NSAIDs to relieve pain and swelling.
Injecting medicine (steroids) into the tendon sheath to reduce swelling and irritation.
Injections may need to be repeated.
Having surgery to open the tendon sheath. This may be done if other treatments do
not work and you cannot straighten your finger. You may need physical therapy after
surgery.
Follow these instructions at home:
Use moist heat to help reduce pain and swelling as told by your health care provider.
Rest your finger and avoid activities that make pain worse. Return to normal
activities as told by your health care provider.

Narrative Essay About Paintball
One day many years ago I went paintballing, this was no ordinary paintball session
as it was the first time I had went in North Carolina and the first time I got to use a
bunch of new gear that I had gotten that Christmas. At first it seemed like a pretty
normal day I woke up, ate, got dressed for paintball which requires about 2 shirts
and pants at least this is my setup, then once we got everything in the car me and
my cousin got in the back and were fairly excited as it was his first time and my first
time in North Carolina, now keep in mind that we were about 10 at the time so this
was a good 5 years ago, after the uneventful trip there we finally pulled up into the
place s parking lot which was made of gravel and it was really uneven, after we
preceded to get all of out stuff out of the car and find ourselves a spot to set up we
went to go get out day passes, all this seemed pretty normal and easy, after getting...

out there and had a lot of fun and learned a few good lesson. So basically what you
can take from this lesson is to not play paintball unless your expected to get hit and
possibly even hurt, but also on a more serious note I learned that when you are with
family and friends and something happens to you don t let that ruin the experience
that other may have unless you are seriously worried about your condition. So yeah
that will make you think twice about going paintball on a hot summer day with two

International Space Station Research Paper
Leadership in history is important. Humanity has shown that they leave a lasting
legacy in history. The launch of the International Space Station was no exception.
This launch was an example of what humanity could do together. After an era of

Biomedical Appliances And The Destruction They Bring
Biomedical Appliances and the Destruction They Bring In the ever growing industry
of biomedical sciences, many devices have the potential to cause harm to the
environment. They have to be treated with such caution and have drastic disposal
measures in place to make sure no damage is done to the environment. Yes, these
steps are incredibly important with devices such as these, but why use a product with
such devastating potential? With today s modern technology and brilliant scientists
should put more effort into creating more environmentally friendly biomedical
technology whilst still having the same benefits. The world today is ever changing
and technology is progressively advancing each and every day. Laura Cabrera wrote
an article in which she discusses the effect humans have on the environmentand how
the environment affects them. The goal of the article is to discover how biomedical
science can be further developed by understanding the environmental impact of
humans. Technological advancements have yielded positive economic growth,
improved standards of living, and provided new ways of protecting humanhealth. At
the same time, technology has contributed to widespread negative changes in the
environment that include global climate change, deforestation, suburban sprawl,
ecosystem loss, and increased health risks from exposure to radiation, toxicants, and
stress (Cabrera 1). Whereas this technology can be lifesaving and a great benefit to a
modern health, it can
The Yellow Wallpaper By Charlotte Perkins Gilman Essay
I don t like to look out of the windows even there are so many of those creeping
women, and they creep so fast. I wonder if they all come out of that wallpaper as I
did? the woman behind the pattern was an image of herself. She has been the one
stooping and creeping. The Yellow Wallpaper was written by Charlotte Perkins
Gilman. In the story, three characters are introduced, Jane (the narrator), John, and
Jennie. The Yellow Wallpaper
is an ironic story that takes us inside the mind and
emotions of a woman suffering a slow mental breakdown. The narrator begins to
think that another woman is creeping around the room behind the wallpaper,
attempting to break free , so she locks herself in the room and begins to tear down
pieces of the wallpaper to rescue this trapped woman. To end the story, John unlocks
the door and finds Jane almost possessed by the woman behind the wallpaper.
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s feminist background gives a feminist standpoint in The
Yellow Wallpaper because the narrator s husband, John acts superior to the narrator.
One can pick out the connections between the author and the narrator in the story
fairly easy if there is knowledge of Gilman s life. For example, the piece titled Why
I Wrote The Yellow Wallpaper by Gilman, she states that she suffered from a severe
and continuous nervous breakdown, similar to what the narrator went through in The
Yellow Wallpaper. Also, she said her doctor concluded there was nothing wrong with

Describe The Sculpture Of Trajan
This sculpture comes from the Romans, specifically, the era of high imperial art.
During this era, Rome was ruled by Trajan during 98 117 CE, which is also the time
period for this sculpture. The lighting is slightly dramatic, creating stark lights and
darks in the figure. It gives it a sense of authority. The hair is in the Roman style, and
is similar to that of Augustus. This marble sculpture s head is of the emperor
Trajan, and it was a bust of some sort. However, the nude body was later added. The
sculpture is in a variation of contrapposto, with the the right arm contracted and
fingers spread out. The full open sculpture makes Trajan seem more youthful, which
applies more culturally to the Greeks, who are concerned with beauty and
Eating Meat By Mckiibeben Analysis
The Life of Livestock Meat and animal products such as milk and eggs are some of
the most consumed products in the world, this means that these products are in high
demand. The livestock tend to live in bad conditions, they are injected with
antibiotics and emit gasses into the atmosphere that contribute to climate change.
These are some of the factors that cause people to become a vegan. Freelance writer

Elvis Presley, By Jerry Leiber And Mike Stoller
Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi, though his twin
brother sadly did not make it. Presley came from very a humble background with
working class parents, though his family had little money they moved around a
lot. But they had very strong faith. Elvis went with his parents to church where he
heard gospel music spiking his interest in music. At the age of eleven he received
his first guitar as a birthday present form his mother. He also won his high school
talent show then soon after his graduation he begin to work in the music industry.
He soon created his fist record, the record label owner Sam Phillips took Presley
under his wing and in 1954 he got his big break and released his first single. Sadly,
Presley passed on August 16th 1977 at the age of 42. His death was caused by
heart failure do to his drug use. (biography.com). Jailhouse Rock was written by
Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller that first became a hit for Elvis Presley. When the
song begins I hear a string and a percussion instrument that seem to be keeping the
beat, the two instruments are what I believe to be a string guitar and a type of snare
drum. I would say that the tempo of this piece varies from adagio in the beginning
but changes to an allegro tempo as the song progresses. The guitar pattern seems to
be dividing the beats into equal parts. I also believe that he adds a rhythmic feel to
the song by highlighting and slightly lengthening the first note of each pair which
A Comparison Of Judges 11 And The Buddhist Katha
Upanishad
The Biblical text Judges 11 and the Buddhist Katha Upanishad both deal with people
receiving an unexpected outcome. To be more specific, two fathers and their children
get something they did not naturally expect considering their previous actions. The
major difference between the two texts is that one involves a tragic outcome that
resulted from good intentions, while the other story plays out in reverse. The
children who are affected by their father s obligations then become the unknowing
heroes of their respective stories and must deal with the consequences. Sacrifice is
the main driving factor that causes the families to receive an unexpected fate. Judges
11 illustrates this through Jephthah s plight. He is introduced as one of the major
judges of Israel and he faces the Ammonites. While asking for Godto... Show more

Food Additive
INTRODUCTION
The use of food additives is an emotional topic which continues to provoke
consumer concern. Despite modern day associations food additives have been
used for centuries. Food preservation began when man first learned to safeguard
food from one harvest to the next and by the salting and smoking of meat and fish.
The Egyptians used colors and flavorings, and the Romans used saltpeter
(potassium nitrate), spices and colors for preservation and to improve the
appearance of foods. Cooks regularly used baking powder as a raising agent,
thickeners for sauces and gravies, and colors, such as cochineal, to transform good
quality raw materials into foods that were safe, wholesome and enjoyable to eat. The
overall aims of traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Colors are used to add or restore color in a food in order to enhance its visual appeal
and to match consumer expectations. The processing of peas and the preparation of
jams can lead to loss of color, and hence food colors can compensate for these losses.
Some colors are used purely for visual decoration on cakes and confectionery items.
Masking or disguising inferior quality is unacceptable uses of color.
The primary reasons for adding colors to foods include: * To offset color loss due
to exposure to light, air, extremes of temperature, moisture and storage conditions *
To compensate for natural or seasonal variations in food raw materials or the effects
of processing and storage to meet consumer expectations (Masking or disguising
inferior quality, however, are unacceptable uses of colors.). * To enhance colors that
occur naturally but at levels weaker than those usually associated with a given food.

Looking at my graph i can come to a conclusion that the left side of my graph is
going upward so F(x) is approching positive infinity. The left side isnt pointing
upward or downward so i had to look at my equation to determine what f(x) is.
Since the leading coefficient is negative the right side of the graph is going down ,
so f(x) approches negative infinity.
Local extrema is basically all local maximums and minimums on a functions graph.
Local extrema occurs at criticla points on the graph where the derivative is zero or
undefined. To find the exact number of a local extrema using your polynomial ,
first find the first derivative of f using the power rule. Then you will set the
derivative to zero and solve for x. The values you get are the critical points which
is also your local extrema. To find the local extrema in your calculator all you have
to do is enter the equation into Y=. Then hit GRAPH and look for the max value
first. To find the max value just go to calculate and choose maximum. Then move
your cursor to the left when they ask you for left bound and hit enter and it will tell
you that you locked the position and just repeat the bounds for the right side too.
When it asks for guess just hit enter and the coordinates of he max value will appear.
I had atleast 4 local extrema.

Analysis of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night
It happened at 12:07. Blood spilled on the cold grass floor. The helpless animal was
lying on Mrs. Shears front yard, dead. In the novel The Curious Incident of The
Dog In The Night Time, the main character is presented to have superhero s mind
set. At this point you might be wondering what this story is about. Well, to start
off, it s about a 14 year old boy who has a developmental disorder called Asperger s
Syndrome. In this condition, you re very socially restrained and shy. Christopher
John Francis Boone is the main character of the book. He is a smart and rather
curious boy who very aware of his surroundings. Christopher is very intellectual for
his age (14). He was the person who realized that Wellington, the dog died. On the
first page it says: It was 7 minutes after midnight. The dog was lying on the grass in
the middle of the lawn. Its eyes were closed. (1) He then picked up Wellington to
see how he died. Unfortunately, he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. When
Mrs. Shears saw him holding the dead dog in his hands, she immediately assumed
that he had killed Wellington. The police came over, interrogated Chris and asked
him questions quite fiercely. Another thing you should know about Chris is that he
does not like people to touch him. As a result, when the policeman touched him,
Chris acted aggressively, leading to his arrest for assaulting a police man. Whenever
there is a mystery unsolved, Christopher wants to do everything he can to solve it. He

The Million Year Picnic Essay
While growing up, you might find yourself in a sort of limbo. There is a time
when you are between a child and an adult, between young and grown. This is
exactly the case for Timothy, the protagonist in Bradbury s The Million Year Picnic
(1946). He senses parts of the adult world that are hidden from his younger brothers,
while retaining a childlike uncertainty and confusion. This paper seeks to analyze and
interpret Timothy s character as well as the short storys narration, setting and themes.
The story unfolds on the planet Mars. It is October in year 2026, yet it is summer on
Mars. The planet is covered in crumbling cities, canals and multicolored deserts. The
family visits in the wake of a great war that eradicated all human and extraterrestrial
life there. Because of the barren atmosphere on Mars, there is a strained feeling in
the family. They talk in whispers when walking through the abandoned cities (p. 179,
l. 14). Both parents are also very tense from the beginning of the trip. The father is
trembling when packing the camp (p. 173, l. 5) and the mother is unusually quiet
throughout most of the novel. She seldom comes with any comments or remarks.
When noticing a bird, the father also gets frightened (p. 174, l. 1) and he has a pulse
beating in his cheek (p. 175, l. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Timothy s family start their life over on Mars and Earth has to rediscover balance
and harmony. Once they land on Mars, the father listens to the atomic radio and
tells his wife, it s over at last, (p. 177, l. 18). To his son Michael he says that there
is no more Minneapolis, no more rockets, no more Earth (p. 178, l. 32). He
explains to everyone how every world station now is silent, but there is a possibility
that their great grandchildren will hear them again. This is if Earth becomes
peaceful once again. Much later, he claims that Earth has been killed (p. 180, l. 40).
Earth must start over and regain a sort of
Comparing Satire in Canterbury Tales, Pride and
Prejudice...
Use of Satire in Canterbury Tales, Pride and Prejudice and The Rape of the Lock
Jane Austen and Alexander Pope had had a myriad of writing styles and techniques
from which to express the desired themes of their works. Satire, however, seemed to
be the effective light hearted, yet condescending, tool that enabled them to surface the
faults and follies of their moral and elite society. In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, satire
is used to the full extent in revealing the glutton within a pious and sacrificing nun,
the vain hunter within a poor and meditative monk, and the vulgarity within a
honorable woman of society. In Pride and Prejudice and The Rape of the Lock,
Austen and Pope use contrasting forms of satire to obtain the ... Show more content

She believes in speaking her mind, exercising her wit with books, and falling in
love with a man s character and soul rather than his yearly income. Elizabeth s
character is essential to the satirical purpose of the novel because it clashes loudly
with the vanities that society holds so dearly, and forces society to see how it
blindly debases itself by believing in the importance of appearance and status rather
than self importance and individuality. Austen further mocks society through Mary,
Elizabeth s younger sister. Mary conspicuously tries to defy the standard rules of
proper ladies in society by refusing to dance at the balls, reading books in public,
and using a verbose vocabulary to create the illusion that she is a well
accomplished woman. However, these actions only make her motives of being an
individual to receive praise from society more obvious, adding another element of
character satire to the novel. Pope s The Rape of the Lock is a mock epic that uses
hyperboles to fill an otherwise absurd and unimportant situation with pompous
splendor; therefore, with the additional extravagancies, the situation becomes even
more trivial. For example, in Pope s poem a lord cuts a lock of hair from the head
of a lovely maiden. The actual occurrence of such a trivial matter in Pope s society
had caused great alarm, influencing him to light heartedly ridicule the people
involved in the situation by creating a
Theme Of Everyday Use
The story Everyday Uses begins with a Mother talking about her daughters,
Maggie and Dee. Dee is outgoing, beautiful, and judgmental; she searches for
things that may give her life purpose. Family values are of very little importance to
Dee. She finds her significance more in her appearance than in endearment to the
people of with whom she has shared her life, due to her insecurities. Then, there is
her little sister Maggie, a small, shy girl, who has large insecurities due to her
appearance. She also walks with a limp, due to a fire that occurred at her old house
when she was younger. Maggie maylack external beauty but, she has internal beauty;
a caring heart and she loves her Mother. The love that Maggie has for her mom is in

In every way shape and form, you would think that they were nothing alike unless
you looked at their hearts. By appearance, they are different. Dee is beautiful and
very much into fashion, unlike her sister who is said to be unattractive. Their level
of education levels are different. Dee was able to go to the Augusta school after
her mother raised the money, whereas Maggie has very little education. Their
personalities are a world apart. Dee is outgoing, spunky, and not afraid to say what
she is thinking. Maggie is shy and jealous of her sister, but she has a generous heart.
All though the sisters are different, their insecurities link them together in a unique
way. In conclusion I can say in Alice Walker s story Everyday Uses, the two sisters
Dee and Maggie differ in appearance, education, and attitude, but they both have deep

Hannon, L. (2002). Criminal opportunity theory and the relationship between poverty
and property crime. Sociological Spectrum, 22(3), 363 381. doi:http://dx.doi.org

Hannon, Analyzes the level of poverty present in neighbourhoods in Austin, Texas
and Seattle, Washington and the rates of property crime in those areas. Hannon
looks for any correlation between the data he is analyzing to determine if poverty
does in fact have a strong positive effect on crime rates.
Hannons findings show that there is a defined relationship between the variables,
this relationship can be either positive or negative depending on the manipulation
of variables. Should poverty worsen, crime rates would increase, however if the
level of poverty in an already extremely poor neighbourhood were to be alleviated,
you could see a marked decrease in crime rates. This would however not necessarily
be the case when examining a community with low to moderate levels of poverty due
to what is referred to as opportunity saturation, this means that although there is an
increase in worthwhile targets, this does not increase the number of possible
offenders, which will not simply offend more because they have a plethora of new
targets, they will simply just offend at the same rate with greater ease.
James Galbraith s Time To Ditch The U
In his article Time to Ditch the NAIRU, published in the Journal of Economic
Perspective, James Galbraith has addressed an alternative view on the controversial
NAIRU, or the natural rate of unemployment. His argument is well presented in four
parts: the non compelling theoretical cases for the natural rate; the mismeasure of the
NAIRU and the shortcomings of the short run Phillips curve; professional
disagreements and discussions on the location of the NAIRU, and lastly, costs and
benefits of using the natural rate of unemploymenta policy guide tool. This response
paper will critically analyze Galbraith s view and provide a personal viewpoint on
the main ideas related to the NAIRU, in context particularly presented by Galbraith
and the world s economy in general.
In Unsolved Theoretical Questions , Galbraith suggests the current and past debates
about the concept of the NAIRU, and then raises several concerns about the validity
and usefulness of the natural rate. The idea of the natural rate was invented by
Milton Friedman (1968) and Edmund Phelps (1968). Specifically, it was Friedman s
presidential lecture that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Galbraith mentions that the United States has not experienced wage led inflation
since the 1950s, while the main factors that accelerated inflation were oil
production, or dollar devaluation. Another interesting question is bought up Why
are no general equilibrium theorists proposing the NAIROP (natural rate of oil
production) or the NAIRODD (natural rate of dollar devaluation). According to the
old Phillips curve model, if real wage has been stable or falling, can we conclude
that the economy has always been above the NAIRU, and the inflation rate should
have been falling as a result? (But it actually did not, because of other mentioned
The Clouds by Aristophanes Essay
The Clouds by Aristophanes Relevant in Today s World
The Clouds by Aristophanes, is a play centrally concerned with education.
Aristophanes employs satire to illustrate his conservative beliefs. It is intended to
show readers that in the tendency to philosophical subtleties lies the neglection of the
real needs of the Athenians. According to Aristophanes, philosophical speculation
only acts to shake the established foundations of accepted religion, gods, and ideals
of morality.
Specifically, as it was even discused in The Apology,
Aristophanes believed that philosophical attitudes held by the
Sophists enabled those who held them to convince others of wrong or weaker beliefs
simply by sounding as if they knew what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In doing some background research into why this would be, I discovered that
Aristophanes religious undertones could stem from the fact that Athenians were
trying to harmonize science and religion. When new scientific theories were starting
to surface and be questioned, many people couldn t even consider them without
sounding as if they were committing treason against the state. Aristophanes turns to
religion in order to remind his audience that both religion and science have to be
equally open to questions, critique, and even in Aristophanes case, satire. This
suggestion, that certain things need to be equally suceptable to to critique and
questions can also be seen through the way that
Aristophanes suggests there is both a problem with the accepted model of a well
rounded education, and the newer model brought about by such philopophers as the
Sophists. Aristophanes saw the danger in not questioning an accepted theory or
belief. Despite the fact I agree with Johnson in that Aristophanes may be a
staunch defender of old values, Aristophanes saw that if something widely accepted
was left unquestioned for too long, it would become idle. Basically, an idea that I
believe should be applied more in the world we live in today a traditionally accepted
theory
Wisdom In The Chosen By Chaim Potok
Wisdom is precious. If one does not grasp it tightly, it may all too soon fade away.
In the book The Chosen, Chaim Potok writes of three people who show wisdom in
both their deeds and speech. They display it randomly, not only in serious events or
critical descisions. It comes spontaneously to them, and that is worth admiration.
Reuven, Danny, and Mr. Malter all share the quality of wisdom.
When Reuven s eye gets hit by a baseball, he is confined to live in the hospital for a
few days. During his stay there, he uses alot of his free time in thought. On one of
his Father s visits, Reuven tells him, I wish I was outside now...I envy them being
able to walk around like that. They don t know how lucky they are (227). He
recognizes that people are more thankful after they loose something. Reuven also
realizes for himself that he should appreciate the things he has before they are taken
from him. This in its self is wisdom. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Reuven does not appreciate his apology and greets it with resentful
bitterness. Instead of shrugging off Reuven s rage and hurt as not his problem ,
Danny, without a second thought, comes back the next day to try to talk it out. He
came up the aisle and stood alongside my [Reuven s] bed, wearing the same clothes
he had the day before (204). Danny wisely refused to let Reuven dwelve in his anger,
even though he risked being yelled at and shamed a second time. Due to this casual,
but prudent, act he unknowingly found his future best

Balanced Reactions Lab
The purpose of this lab was to use empirical evidence to determine the type of
chemical change and be able to write these changes as balanced reactions. We found
that 9 out of 16 reactions yielded precipitates and 1 had a color change (Cu(NO3)2 x
KI). To set up this experiment, we combined different solutions in a well plate. 3
drops of Ca(NO3)2, Cu(NO3)2, Ni(NO3)2, and Zn(NO3)2 were put into wells A1 to
A4, B1 to B4, C1 to C4, and D1 to D4 respectively. Next, 3 drops of KI, KOH,
Na2C2O4, and Na2SO4 were placed in wells A1 through D1, A2 D2, A3 D3, and
A4 D4 respectively. We then let the solutions sit awhile before recording our
observations. In wells A2, A3, A4, B2, B3, C2, C3, D2, and D3, precipitates formed.
Also, in well B1 had a color change but no precipitate.... Show more content on

The reason why Na2SO4 only reacts with Ca(NO3)2 is because when sulfate
combines with calcium (or Ag, Sr, Ba, Pb), it becomes insoluble. In the other
reactions, copper, nickel, and zinc were all soluble when combined with sulfate.
Also, no precipitate formed when mixed with KI because both elements in the
molecule are soluble when combined with other elements, except for Ag, Pb, and
Hg when combined with a halide. This lab shows that some elements and ions are
soluble while others are not and that there are some exceptions to the rule. During
our first try, my group had few errors. In our B4 well, a precipitation reaction
occurred when in actuality, there should not have been

Adoption And Foster Care Act
It s about my entire life, it s not just about my childhood. I want to know that I m
going to have someone to walk me down the aisle. That I m going to have
grandparents for my children. Mary (a girl in foster care). Adoption and foster care
is used as a solution to a child not having an adequate home, but because of its many
issues, the child is put into an unfavorable position and left with an uncertain future.
Foster careis when a child is placed into a home and waits for a familyto adopt them.
Adoptionis the act of taking legal responsibility of a child and to protect them . On
paper, it sounds likes like an act of kindness, but adoption and foster care has many
issues tied to it. Due to the many problems of adoption and foster care, such as the
environment in a foster home, the behavior of their peers, mental instability, the
adoption process, a child that experienced it impact their life negatively, as
demonstrated in The Murderer s Daughter by Randy Susan Meyers. The
environments of different foster homes changes but there are many with a horrid
environment that could cause many issues for the child. In some foster homes
there is a deficit of healthy food for the children. In the novel, Lulu, an orphaned
girl who lived in a group home with her sister and the protagonist of The Murderer
s Daughter, the girls at Duffy was infected with ache and the fault was our greasy
meals, so I tried to eat the best stuff Duffy served. Of course, I couldn t do that every

am one of many people who have experienced a mixture of both the opportunities
this country provides for people, but the inequalities that follow me in my path of

GAAP is implemented through measurement principles and disclosure principles. Measurement principles recognize and determine the timing and basis of items that enter the accounting cycle and impact the financial statements, such as the period in which transactions will be recorded. Disclosure principles determine what specific numbers and other information are essential to be presented in financial statements. Basically, GAAP is concerned with: the measurement of economic activity; the time when such measurements are to be made and recorded; the disclosures surrounding this activity; and the preparation and presentation of summarized economic information in financial statements. Although smaller companies are not required to use GAAP, there are certain situations, such as obtaining credit or seeking investors, which require, by contract, those companies to also follow GAAP when preparing their financial statements. Using GAAP helps the business and
  • 3. Tumor Suppression Genes Research Paper Tumor Suppression Genes Introduction Cell replication and division is vital for growth and development. The mechanisms associated with replication of DNA are very precise. However, there can be errors at times and when these errors occur there could be problems in reproduction process. Some of these errors can cause uncontrolled cell growth causing tumor formation. There are genes within the human genome that prevent this uncontrolled growth from occurring. These genes are known as tumor suppression genes. They work in a very specific way and are vital for proper growth. Though they fix errors, the tumor suppression genes can malfunction or be malformed at times as well. When these errors occur, there can be serious consequences. What ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oncogenes are genes that work in the opposite way of tumor suppression genes. They cause uncontrolled growth of cells and are activated when tumor suppression genes become inactive. An example of this can be found in the mutation that causes Retinoblastoma. This is a condition that is found within the eye which is caused by a malfunctioning tumor suppression gene. The tumor suppression gene that malfunctions in retinoblastoma is the RB1 gene. This malfunction causes the activation of oncogenes. This ultimately leads to cells in the retina growing uncontrollably and causing tumors and cancer to develop in the eye. Tumor Suppression Genes and Caner Recently, a lot of research is being done involving tumor suppression genes and cancer. Scientists have been testing tumor suppression genes in gene therapy experiments. In these experiments the tumor suppression genes are injected into cancer cells and tumors. These genes are able to causes the cancer cell to die via apoptosis. Though it has yet to become a treatment for cancer, the future looks promising using this method.
  • 4. The Grand Inquisitor Summary The Grand Inquisitor sees the humans as very lowly creatures. When discussing the repercussions of Jesus having allowed humans free will, he mentions how You [Jesus] judged men too highly, for they are slaves, of course, though rebellious by nature (137). He previously had told Jesus that he had failed to enslave the people by miracle. If Jesushad shown miracles as the work of Godand not let people have their own free will, Jesus would have enslaved the people thousands of years ago by showing them true power and might. They would have followed the teachings of religionbecause they had seen before their eyes. Now the church had to wait for the people to have faith freely in their minds. Because of Jesus failure to enslave the people after
  • 5. Social Darwinism And Charles Darwin s The Time Machine The Time Traveler s theory was very similar and clearly reflected Darwin s main points. One of the real social hypotheses of the late nineteenth century adjusted Charles Darwin s speculations on development to legitimize nineteenth century social stratification between the rich and poor. In Origin of the Species, Darwin contended that diverse conditions supported the propagation of those species whose changing qualities most appropriate them to survive; their posterity, thus, would be better adjusted for the new condition, as would their posterity, et cetera. Social Darwinism as often as possible manhandled this idea of characteristic determination. Evolution does not prompt the perfectibility of any species, as is for the most part seen, yet to the expanding flexibility and many sided quality of an animal categories. Social Darwinism overlooked this thought and battled that the social condition was much similar to the vicious common habitat, and that the individuals who succeeded were organically bound to do as such and to proceed in their walk to human flawlessness. = Wells spots the gaps in this contention. In The Time Machine, the wonderful Eloi appear, at in the first place, to be the ideal tenants of a propelled age. However, the Time Traveler soon finds that the progressions of human progress have enfeebled the Eloi; with no squeezing prerequisites for survival, they have turned out to be feeble, sluggish, and moronic. While their human progress has
  • 6. Dutch and Belgium Organ Donation Acts Essay example Assignment III B: Dutch and Belgium Organ Donation Acts. In Belgium there is a different post mortem organ donation law than in The Netherlands, although they both have the same main purpose: they seek to increase the supply of donors. In Belgium it is presumed that each citizen has consented to the harvest of organs following death unless an objection to such a harvest was recorded, an opt out system. Belgium combines presumed consent with a practice of inquiring into the wishes of the next of kin. One advantage of presumed consent is that there is no need to refer to drivers licenses or donor cards, which may not be carried at the relevant time. Another is that distraught family members do not need to make a positive decision to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Under no circumstances can organs or tissues be removed if the deceased has indicated that he or she does not want this (1). In my opinion, the Belgium presumed consent system would be more effective in terms of the aim of the law. It is possible that only the more advantaged or educated groups in Belgium society would be aware of their right to opt out and the less advantaged would take no steps, more through ignorance than through a willingness to donate. Although this seems immoral, it will increase the supply of donors. The Dutch full decision system can be very effective, if every citizen would actually send in the form. In an ideal world every Dutch citizen would respond, stating their consent or not, and every Belgium citizen would respond if they would not consent. In an ideal world it would not matter which system a country would use, both systems would increase the supply of donors. Since we do not live in an ideal world, we have to make a choice. Either an immoral more effective system, or a moral less effective system. The Dutch system is to be preferred from a moral point of view; People who do not want to donate organs and through ignorance do not know they have to send in a form if they do or do not want to donate organs will not have their human rights violated. As in Belgium there human rights will be violated, but, since the person is already dead, cannot complaint that their rights have been violated, which
  • 7. Symbolism Of Danger In The Skeleton Key Symbolisms of Danger After watching The Skeleton Key, director Iain Softley, portrays a young 25 year old female, Caroline Ellis attends nursing school that takes a job as a caregiver for a stroke victim; living in a secluded, decrypted mansion, surrounded by a bayou in Terrebonne Parrish known as: New Orleans. Consequently, while rummaging through the attic of the house, she comes across some Hoodoo paraphernalia dating back to the 1920 s. Although; notwithstanding, after talking with Violet Devereaux, the owner, Caroline still doesn t believe, decides to do some investigating of her own on Hoodoo. Will she believe or will she still hold true to her own beliefs? Iain Softley did an amazing job with all the specific objects, effects, sounds, and other details used to help intensify the mood with anxiety, suspense, and horror. Until now, I ve not realized how the comparisons of these items relate to symbolisms; how they play such a vital role in literature, lead to clues and nevertheless, add meaning to the story. Moreover, The Lottery, Shirley Jackson, delineates a small village of 300 people on a clear, fresh summer day preparing for their traditional lottery. Anxious men and women gather together smiling, talking about rain, crops and equipment; meanwhile, children collecting stones had stated they broke into boisterous play (Jackson 1). All the while, waiting to hear the name of the winner announced. Conversely, it has a twisted ending, resulting in a brutal
  • 8. Descriptive Essay About My Small House Clink! Bang! Crash! The my closet is overflowing once again. My small house is maybe a little too small. I walked to the kitchen to get something to eat. I see the kitchen closet is overflowing with pots and pans, again. The kitchen has a polished wooden floor easy to slip on if you re wearing socks. Our kitchenis small, but big enough to put items on the shining counter. I looked out to our backyard, I spot some fluffy looking white bunnies hopping along, eating the carrots I left out for them. I dragged my body down the long hallway to my motherand father s room. I complain, This house doesn t have enough space! My parents lookat each other with a depressed look and sigh, We need to find a new house. The next morning it was a Saturday, I got dressed in so comfortable clothes and headed towards the living room. I sat on the light brown colored couch. The couch had different patterns, including the pillows. I picked up the remote and flicked on some TV shows. I was in the middle of watching a show, when My mom and dad come to me with an excited look on their morning faces. The light came in, shining on them like they re on stage. There was a long silence, you could hear a pin drop. I looked at my mom then dad and did it again. Until my dad finally spat it out, We found a house were going today and seeing it! I felt my excitement was about to burst. At the end of the car ride, I stepped out the car door. I heard the crunch of the rocks as I stepped
  • 9. Colombia Research Paper Drug Trafficking, civil unrest, and kidnapping are commonly associated with Colombia. However, a closer look at the South American Country, which is slightly less than two times the size of Texas, reveals not only a very rich culture that centers on fine arts and language preservation, but also a country that strives for economic progress and effective government. All of which is typically overshadowed by the notorious guerilla warfare and drug cartels. On July 20, 1810, Colombia declared its independence from Spain. During the 300 years leading up to that date, the Spainards controlled the country after overpowering the indigenous population. Many indigenous people were forced into slavery; in addition, slaves from Africa were imported. As a result of the harsh rule of Spain,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on where they live, members of the population fall into one of three Colombian cultures: the interior, the coastal, or the countryside. These cultures each have very distinct customs and traditions that set them apart from each other. Food, music, and clothing differ depending on region. For example, in the interior region, which is rural, breakfast consists of pork, rice and beans, sweet plantains, and a large steak with fried eggs. In the coastal region, meals consisting of seafood are more common. In addition, styles of music vary between regions. Currulao is a type of music played in the coastal region as it uses rain and rivers as its central themes. In the interior region, the Bambuco and Guabina forms of music, which center on themes of mountains, the earth, and lakes, are prominent. In the interior region, men usually wear loose fitting pants and women wear loose fitting skirts, as they work in fields. In more urban regions, among professionals, the style of clothing is typical to that of the United

  • 11. Music Of The 60s Help Shape Modern Australian Society In what ways did music in the 60s help shape modern Australian society People today are still living off the table scraps of the sixties. They are still being passed around the music and the ideas. This was pronounced by Bob Dylan, a folk musician of the sixties: an era in which the music heavily influenced the culture of the time and continues to influence the music and culture today. The music and artists of the 60s influenced radio and television, the music, fashion and lifestyles of the people, particularly youth, heavily influenced the popular culture Australia, USA, Britain and other Western Countries. The genre started out as a more instrumental genre, with pioneering bands like Dick Dale and the Del Tones, usually with leading electric guitars but soon evolved into the more vocal surf pop, commonly associated with the Beach Boys. This then evolved into a genre known as Hot Rod Rock, which is was instrumental surf rock music with lyrics more about cars and girls to appeal to teenaged boys. The influences of the surf music that came out in the 60s can be seen in today s surf music, with bands such as The Break, Los Fantasticos, and The Sharkskins clearly expressing the likes of 60s surf musician Dick Dale. By mid 60s, the rock n roll stars including Elvis Presley, Johnny Horton, Lloyd Price and other acts that were popular earlier in the decade and the previous decade and even the newer surf music began to be overtaken by the British bands that emerged and dominated the charts. The British Invasion acts include Beatles, The Animals, The Who, Herman s Hermits, Tom Jones, and Donovan. By the late 1960s, the American psychedelic and acid rock movements had filtered into Australia. This type of music then evolved into progressive rock and other genres of music that are still popular today. Music has always been the barometer
  • 12. Narrative Essay On Count Dracula Count Dracula Max, Gypsie come out of the woods and back in the cabin Count Dracula is up!!! yelled their Mom. Coming! Max yelled and the two twins ran back to their cabin. Mom can you tell us about the story of Grandpa Mark and his encounter with Count Dracula? asked Max You said you would the next time we came to our cabin in Nebraska. Ok, I guess she told the two twins One day your Grandpa was going out in the woods to hunt for deer, he came upon a deer dead on the ground. He looked down at the deer to see what looked like two fang marks dung into the side of the deer. Wondering what had happened he looked around to find a trail of blood. When he followed the trail of blood to a dark cave. When he heard a sudden whoosh from inside and screeching the hair on the back of his neck began to rise. He walked in with his gun pointed forward. When he saw a shadow of a monster on the wall, he pointed the gun towards the shadow when a rat crawled out. Thinking of how silly he had been thinking there was something weird in the cave as he was walking out he suddenly was picked off the ground and banged against the wall falling unconscious. When he woke he found two red eyes staring straight at him. The eyes were nothing compared to the bats glistening fangs and huge size. He looked to see his gun behind his back. Slowly he picked it up, shot the bat and ran for all he was worth. Finishing the story she told the two it was time to go to bed. Okay Mom Gypsie said. As

King Arthur has always been a long standing icon of heroism, and heroism is a theme mankind takes pleasure in romanticizing. Arthurian Romance is the classic example of good versus evil, knights in shining armor, forbidden love, and sorcery; the basic elements of a romanticized tale. And in a dark time where religion clashed, empires fought in epic battles, and the people of Britain suffered from poverty and disease, Arthurian legend was needed to lift the spirits of the hopeless. Among these, microcontrollers stand as a lower cost alternative, satisfactory reliability, simplicity, reduced consumption energy, however, with limited memory capacity and processing. A microcontroller contains a processor, memory access and peripheral input / output. It is a microprocessor that can be programmed for specific functions, in contrast to other general purpose microprocessors (such as those used in PCs). Basically, the use of a microcontroller is in the processing of data from one of your peripherals, with the set of output data. For example, send data via serial port or generate a reaction in system as an LED light. The architecture of a microcontroller generally consists of a core processing, bus and Peripherals: Processing core consists of the data processor (calculations, flow control program, etc.) and administration of peripherals. Bus is divided into data and address, is on the lines of communication between the processor and peripherals. Peripherals characterize the set of features available by the microcontroller and are controlled by the processor. For example, memory, serial port, parallel port and AD converter. Microcontrollers are typically used in automation and control products and peripherals, such as control systems of automotive engines, remote controls, machines, etc.

At 4,765 years old the Methuselah is the oldest documented living bristlecone there is, being almost 1,000 years older than its counterparts of the species. The age of this tree can be determined by the amount of rings that are found when the inner truck is exposed. There is where the truth of the extraordinary tree and its undeniable ability to outlive all other organisms lies. The bristlecone having the ability to outlive all other organisms can be questioned but instead of asking how it lives so long it should be questioned on the reasons for its lengthy pace to die. The bristlecone pine is known to grow in the White Mountains of eastern California. In that area conditions are not most desirable and ideal for plants to grow, however the bristlecone has managed to withstand the harsh conditions and surpass the hands of time. The White Mountains are an area that experiences short summers with a season for growing only being measured at several weeks. These mountains also adhere to strong dry winds that travel against rocky souls. These type of conditions cause any rain water that may fall to either drain off to fast for the plant to absorb or the water to just evaporate (Matthews, M). With such harsh conditions it is amazing that the bristlecone is still standing as the oldest living organism, unless it is because of these harsh conditions that the tree has such longevity. It may

Throughout the many conflicts, William Golding, author of the novel, shows how important power can be in desperate times and how it can change a person within time of being in command. Characters like Ralph, Jack, and Piggy represent the types of people when it comes to power. The major difference between the two texts is that one involves a tragic outcome that resulted from good intentions, while the other story plays out in reverse. The children who are affected by their father s obligations then become the unknowing heroes of their respective stories and must deal with the consequences. Sacrifice is the main driving factor that causes the families to receive an unexpected fate. Judges 11 illustrates this through Jephthah s plight. Despite modern day associations food additives have been used for centuries. Food preservation began when man first learned to safeguard food from one harvest to the next and by the salting and smoking of meat and fish. The Egyptians used colors and flavorings, and the Romans used saltpeter (potassium nitrate), spices and colors for preservation and to improve the appearance of foods. Cooks regularly used baking powder as a raising agent, thickeners for sauces and gravies, and colors, such as cochineal, to transform good quality raw materials into foods that were safe, wholesome and enjoyable to eat. Colors are used to add or restore color in a food in order to enhance its visual appeal and to match consumer expectations. The processing of peas and the preparation of jams can lead to loss of color, and hence food colors can compensate for these losses. Some colors are used purely for visual decoration on cakes and confectionery items. Masking or disguising inferior quality is unacceptable uses of color. The primary reasons for adding colors to foods include: * To offset color loss due to exposure to light, air, extremes of temperature, moisture and storage conditions * To compensate for natural or seasonal variations in food raw materials or the effects of processing and storage to meet consumer expectations (Masking or disguising inferior quality, however, are unacceptable uses of colors.). * To enhance colors that occur naturally but at levels weaker than those usually associated with a given food. Use of Satire in Canterbury Tales, Pride and Prejudice and The Rape of the Lock Jane Austen and Alexander Pope had had a myriad of writing styles and techniques from which to express the desired themes of their works. Satire, however, seemed to be the effective light hearted, yet condescending, tool that enabled them to surface the faults and follies of their moral and elite society. In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, satire is used to the full extent in revealing the glutton within a pious and sacrificing nun, the vain hunter within a poor and meditative monk, and the vulgarity within a honorable woman of society. She believes in speaking her mind, exercising her wit with books, and falling in love with a man s character and soul rather than his yearly income. Elizabeth s character is essential to the satirical purpose of the novel because it clashes loudly with the vanities that society holds so dearly, and forces society to see how it blindly debases itself by believing in the importance of appearance and status rather than self importance and individuality. Austen further mocks society through Mary, Elizabeth s younger sister. Mary conspicuously tries to defy the standard rules of proper ladies in society by refusing to dance at the balls, reading books in public, and using a verbose vocabulary to create the illusion that she is a well accomplished woman. However, these actions only make her motives of being an individual to receive praise from society more obvious, adding another element of character satire to the novel. Pope s The Rape of the Lock is a mock epic that uses hyperboles to fill an otherwise absurd and unimportant situation with pompous splendor; therefore, with the additional extravagancies, the situation becomes even more trivial. For example, in Pope s poem a lord cuts a lock of hair from the head of a lovely maiden. The actual occurrence of such a trivial matter in Pope s society had caused great alarm, influencing him to light heartedly ridicule the people involved in the situation by creating a

Hannons findings show that there is a defined relationship between the variables, this relationship can be either positive or negative depending on the manipulation of variables. Should poverty worsen, crime rates would increase, however if the level of poverty in an already extremely poor neighbourhood were to be alleviated, you could see a marked decrease in crime rates. This would however not necessarily be the case when examining a community with low to moderate levels of poverty due to what is referred to as opportunity saturation, this means that although there is an increase in worthwhile targets, this does not increase the number of possible offenders, which will not simply offend more because they have a plethora of new targets, they will simply just offend at the same rate with greater ease.

Aristophanes employs satire to illustrate his conservative beliefs. It is intended to show readers that in the tendency to philosophical subtleties lies the neglection of the real needs of the Athenians. According to Aristophanes, philosophical speculation only acts to shake the established foundations of accepted religion, gods, and ideals of morality. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In doing some background research into why this would be, I discovered that Aristophanes religious undertones could stem from the fact that Athenians were trying to harmonize science and religion. When new scientific theories were starting to surface and be questioned, many people couldn t even consider them without sounding as if they were committing treason against the state. Aristophanes turns to religion in order to remind his audience that both religion and science have to be equally open to questions, critique, and even in Aristophanes case, satire. This suggestion, that certain things need to be equally suceptable to to critique and questions can also be seen through the way that Aristophanes suggests there is both a problem with the accepted model of a well rounded education, and the newer model brought about by such philopophers as the Sophists. Aristophanes saw the danger in not questioning an accepted theory or belief. Despite the fact I agree with Johnson in that Aristophanes may be a staunch defender of old values, Aristophanes saw that if something widely accepted was left unquestioned for too long, it would become idle.
