D G Gang Rape Advert
Television commercials or print ads are often developed that rely on unusual creative tactics and
have very little relevance to the product or service being advertised. Creative personnel in
agencies defend the use of these ads by noting that they are novel and provide a way to break
through the high level of clutter on television and in magazines. Evaluate the pros and cons of this
argument. Find an example of a television commercial or print ad that takes an unusual creative
approach and discuss whether you feel it is effective or ineffective.

An affective IMC strategy implies thorough understanding of their customers and the identification
of the market (demographic) since a product cannot broadly apply to all consumers. D G are
targeting young men teenagers, middle and upper class professionals, metrosexual couples and
people that are employed in artistic and innovative industries such as interior designers.
Why should these categories buy D G products? What is the perceived value customers gain when
purchasing D G products? Marketers are aware that some teenagers and young men find it difficult
to socialize with women. This advert is informing this category that with D G products socializing
with women becomes an easy task (Women will fall for you!).
The black box at the background and the white opening symbolize their liberal and rebellious
attitude. They are challenging the viewers to think outside the box (lateral thinking black box).
They are provoking the viewer to reflect and dig deeper, to search for the connotative meanings
behind the rape scene. The background portraying the clouds gives the notion of paradise and
transmits the feeling that the woman is giving consent. In other words they are saying that this is
not rape but a heavenly experience. This idea might appeal to metrosexual couples. D G is making
a statement that they cater for people who are open minded (white opening).
One might argue that the idea behind using these images

Indian Ocean Trade Network
Trade was an integral part of survival and income during the common era. Between 600 C.E. and
1450 C.E, the Indian Ocean trade network and the Trans Saharan trade network had Arab traders
travel and change the way sea trade developed and became extraordinarily successful. Trade created
communication and familiarity between people of different background and where they reside
from. Communication of people lead to diversification of culture, creating unions of people starting
enormous perceptions of culture. The Trans Saharan trade and the Indian Ocean trade were very
similar yet very different. Items that were exchanged through trading were a bit different and the

Solar Power And Solar Energy
Solar energy is capable of providing a cleaner energy than most forms of energy generation, and
solar energy is able to be generated economically. Solar energy reduces the amount of harm to
the environment from energy generation, by providing a cleaner alternative. Solar energy also
provides jobs for construction and installation of solar powered technologies. The cost of
installing solar panels can vary greatly, but its long term benefits outweigh the costs. Typically a
solar panel system is a three kilowatts to eight kilowatts system that cost fifteen thousand to forty
thousand dollars to install, total cost depends on circumstances of installation. However tax
credits and incentives help recoup a portion of the cost in the first year, the savings of electricity
cost makes installing the system profitable in under 10 years (Maehlum). Purchasing the system
requires a large loan, however paying the loan can be substantially better than paying utility bills
when the investment will eventually be paid for. If the system is large enough to handle the
requirements of the household, the only payment for electricity will be the cost of the loan.
Making loan payments instead of paying utility bills is predictable, and any excess energy will
be used as a credit for months were the owner s energy use may exceed the generated amount.
Within10 years of financing the solar panels, the cost of the solar panels will already made up by
the cost savings from not paying for utility

Woman At Point Zero Personification
In the Middle Eastern culture, women held relatively no power during the 19th century and were
taken advantage of in the Arabic culture. El Saadawi struggles to exert her voice and power in
society because she refuses to conform to society s expectations. Nawal El Saadawi exemplifies
the motif of eyes in her novel, Womanat Point Zero. They live in a strictly patriarchal society but
Firdaus challenges this belief through her fervent eye contact. El Saadawi shows this through her
fictional character, Firdaus, who creates an intimate connection between various characters via the
motif of eyes and uncovers the characters true intentions.
The reader s first encounter with eyes is shown through the intimate connection between Firdaus
and her mother. El Saadawi employs an anaphora, They were eyes that watched me...... Show more

El Saadawi demonstrates personification by giving eyes the ability to die as if they are much
more than just a pair of organs, they have the ability to feel. Firdaus realizes that she never truly
experiences love because all of the people that Firdaus thinks she loved took away the shine in
her eyes. She no longer saw the beauty in people once they broke her. Firdaus saw how people,
like Ibrahim used for alternative purposes and that mentally killed her. El Saadawi could no
longer give herself to love because she refuses to feel any emotion, as though something had
closed up inside (El Saadawi 83). Firdaus never gets to experience real love and she knows that. El
Saadawi demonstrates how men chase materialistic desires over everything. The social status of
Egyptian men was highly dependent on their occupation, Ibrahim prioritizes his social status over
his emotional connection with Firdaus because society forces Ibrahim to believe that his value is

Essay Comparing The Marriage Of Figaro And Twelfth Night
A common discussion between the sexes is the omnipotent power that men seem to hold over
women in all societies. Why do men always have the social advantage over women? Both
Shakespeare s Twelfth Night and Beaumarchais The Marriage of Figaro show that there is indeed
a social stigma placed on women where women are not allowed as much freedom to either fight
back against a suitor or choose not to accept a suitor s love and choose another. Shakespeare s
Twelfth Night focuses mainly on the negative stigmas against women, while Beaumarchais The
Marriage of Figaro places most of the blame for perpetuating the stigmas on the aristocracy,
especially the men within the aristocracy (i.e. the Count). Both texts examine the social role
women play in society, and both texts critique the societal norms that restrict women.

Towards the beginning, Suzanne expresses her dislike of the positioning of her and Figaro s
bedroom. She is afraid that the Count will somehow distract Figaro enough for him to lie with
her. The fact that she even considers this a possibility reveals a great problem: in her position as a
servant of the aristocracy and as a young woman, Suzanne is likely to fall prey to powerful men,
just because they have power over her. The Countess, too, is in a similar position, although she is of
the aristocracy. The Countess is held strictly accountable for the rumors that she was engaging in an
affair, even though the Count himself is attempting to engage in his own affair with Suzanne. The
Count accuses the Countess of unfaithfulness and doesn t even consider that his own attempt at an
affair is an account of his own unfaithfulness. Suzanne also encounters this issue when the Count
uncovers Cherubin, and Cherubin is discovered in her room: You wanted to be alone so you could

Homeland Security And Homeland Security
After the 9/11 attacks, the growing threat of terrorism has required the United States to return to the
drawing board on homeland security and rethink its relationship with homeland defense. Although
seemingly similar, each entity serves its own mission, its own responsibilities, duties, and
operations in the protection of the United States, its assets, and territories. Homeland security is a
joint national effort to prevent terrorism and provide protection and support in response to threats
and national disasters in the United States. It seeks to reduce American vulnerability and increase
recovery and resiliency of the nation and its people should a terrorist attack occur. Homeland
defense is the protection of the United States and its territories against threats, both, foreign and
domestic and includes providing support to civil authorities during national disasters. Furthermore,
we will examine the role homeland security and homeland defense plays in the protection of our
critical infrastructure and identify areas of vulnerability as well as discuss currents efforts being
made to ensure its security. Homeland security is a unified national effort that involves both
civilian and military government agencies. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was
established in November of 2002, following the wake of 9/11, when the president signed in to law
the Homeland Security Act of 2002. Its mission is to prevent and deter terrorism, protect and

Magical Houses Made Of Bamboo Analysis
In the Ted Talk Magical Houses Made of Bamboo, the speaker (Elora Hardy) and her team work
hard to build these breathtaking homes out of bamboo. First, Hardy and her team harvest bamboo
for their homes. Not only does bamboo have the compressive strength of concrete, but it is also
extremely light compared to its size. The bamboo is transported to where the home is going to be
built. Secondly, since bamboo cannot last a lifetime on its own, the team adds borax which can
increase the bamboo s lifetime. Borax turns bamboo into a viable buildingmaterial. Then, Hardy
and her team make a 3D blueprint of the house that they are constructing. The team considers
everything when it comes down to details. After that, an experienced team of architects and
designers bend and change the shape of the bamboo to fit their needs for the actual house. The team
must use plenty of creativity to make their design truly astonishing. For example, in the video, To

unprotected bamboo will most likely be eaten to dust by insects. However, Hardy and her team

The SOP procedures for preparing and validating calibrations in Section 8 and for validating sample
data in Section 12 must be followed unless it is apparent that the QC in the mandated method or
regulations are more stringent.
QC Analyst Evaluation
Section 12 of each technical SOP details the QC requirements that a based on the method or the
2009 TNI Standard. This section of the SOP provides the analyst with the guidance to identify,
correct and report QC activities before final review by management.
Although each SOP has its own specific QC requirements based on the reference method, Table 3 is
an example of a summary table found in technical SOPs. This table shows the requirement the
acceptance criteria, the frequency (which can vary based on method) and the corrective actions the
analyst takes.
Section 3, Analytical Corrective Action Reporting in DOC D4001 lists the steps the analyst takes to
record QC requirement exceedances. When any of the QC checks listed above are out of
compliance, the analyst initiates a Corrective Action Report (CAR) noting the exceedance, the
actions taken and their outcome. The analyst forwards the CAR to management (primarily the QA
Coordinator). Any decision qualify results is made by management.

When presented with the word community I think comradery, a group of people whom give one a

communities all at once. My ethnic background, involvement, and gender have all played huge
role in this self identification. I feel as if I am part of a series of communities not only on my

There Will Come Soft Rains By Ray Bradbury
The story There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury is a story about a post apocalyptic time in
the year 2026 when all humans have perished. The question at hand is why is the house the main
character of the story, and that is the question we aim to answer. With a lack of human, animate
characters Ray Bradburyaims to personify objects and being of the house. The house is automated
and functions seamlessly without human aid despite being created by human inventors and
builders. The inanimate objects and characters of the house are characterized as one and are
personified as to be the main character of Ray Bradbury s short story. The house greats the morning
by making breakfast and turning on the sprinklers the wall where the sprinkler is nearby revealed
the silhouette of a family burnt into it, the only remnants of human life in the area. The author tells
us that it is the last house standing. The first evidence of the house being personified is when the
dog enters and dies. The robotic mice enter from the wall and clean up the remnants. The house

`` The Power Of Context `` By Sherry Turkle
As the world advances technologically, globalization becomes inevitable, forcing multiple
environments on the individual. How one is able to adapt to these colliding worlds will determine
their experiences in the future. We see how the virtual world and the physical world collide in a
narrative written by Sherry Turkle called Alone Together. She discusses how children interact with
technological toys that are able to evoke emotions such as love. Understanding what effect the
environmenthas on us is one of the main topics presented by Malcolm Gladwell in his narrative
titled The Power of Context. Gladwell defines the environment as what we experience in our
immediate social and physical worlds. In The Mega Marketing of Depression in Japan, written by
Ethan Watters we see how a large company, GlaxoSmithKline, manipulates a society by imposing a
new environment on their already existing environment. As the environment changes, humans will
adapt with it to alleviate the stress that comes with living in multiple and conflicting environments.
One would have to adapt their behavior and thoughts, changing their traditional experiences of the
self they once had. In order to adapt to multiple environments humans use coping mechanisms such
as hybridity. The use of hybridity in a rapidly globalizing world, however, risks the extinction of an
environment and therefore a culture, permanently changing the experience of the self of an
individual. Humans live with a pluralistic

Classical Music And Its Influence On The Culture Of...
Poetic Dissonance Classical music is earnest music engendered in the traditions of Western music.
Many great composers were born in that era kenned as the mundane practice period. For my
classical project I went to the Music Center s Walt Disney concert hall. It has had many famous
classical performances over the past few years. I witnessed something unique and enlightening
when I entered the orchestraperformance and heedfully aurally perceived all of this solemn music. I
discerned many famous composers this evening. Their denominations were Paul Hindemith, Pyotr
Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Benjamin Boone, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Arturo Marquez conducted by
Thomas Loewenheim. The pieces performed were Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes of Carl
Maria von Weber; Allegro, Turandot: Scherzo, Andantino, March, Concert for Violin in D major;
Allegro Moderato, Waterless Music, Symphony in D minor; Revolutionary Petrograd, Razliv,
Aurora, Dawn of Humanity, and Danzon. I optically discerned many people and instruments being
played all over the theater. Mostly everyone I optically discerned was professionally dressed up.
The instruments being played were the violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet,
bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, tuba, percussion, and piano. The most
fascinating thing I cerebrated was intriguing was that they endeavored integrating water as an
instrument in the waterless music piece and it genuinely sounded congenial. When I entered the

The Gulf Of Tonkin Resolution
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was a resolution that stated that the
president could take any and all action necessary in Vietnam. This was spurred by a supposed
attack on a United States gun boat in the Gulf of Tonkin. A point of comparison to the Gulf of
Tonkin Resolution could be the declaration of war following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. On
December 7th, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) launched a large bombing mission against
the ships and the soldiers at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After this event, the original idea to try and keep
the United Statesout of World War II was abandoned and the United States began to churn out
military equipment and supplies to combat the Axis powers. In both cases, the seemingly correct
thing to do was considered to be obvious.
Reagan s Tear Down the Wall speech Ronald Reagan s Tear Down the Wall speech commanded
Mikhail Gorbachev to dismantle the Berlin Wall, which divided Berlin between the Capitalist West

Booker T. Washington s Alabama Exposition Address. In Washington s speech, he discusses how
African Americans would be dedicated workers alongside whites if whites cast down their buckets
to African Americans to help them to find work. In Washington s mind, allowing African
Americans to have economic prosperity would, in turn, allow them to finally be free. This is

Prime Minister Gillard continued to convey her support during a speech to congress where she

Thesis
This research paper argues the Seasonal Workers Program can help stabilize the South Pacific by
influencing regional economies. Moreover, the program reinvigorates Australian leadership in the
region, reducing the likelihood of increased Chinese influence and therefore supports the strategic
intent of the US.
Why the Rebalance Strategy?
President Barak Obama announced to the Australian parliament in November 2011 that the United
States had commenced a review to establish key strategic interests in order to guide budgetary and
defense priorities. The US Pivot to the Pacific strategy commenced with President Obama declaring
he had directed my national security team to make our presence and mission in the Asia Pacific a
top priority. A forecast reduction in military commitments in the Middle East would allow resources
reallocation to the Pacific region to strengthen relationships with partner nations and counter a rise
in Chinese strength. Therefore, this begs the question why has the US postured to the Pacific?
The period immediately prior to the 2011 announcement saw a gradual increase in US diplomatic
interest within the Pacific region. Prior to this recent increase, the lack of US diplomatic support
gave regional partners the impression the US role in regional affairs was on the decline just as
Chinese influence was increasing. According to political

The Theme Of Forgiveness In The Power Of One Peekay
Forgiveness can have different reason for forgiving and different ways it would effect a person.
There is forgiving someone for just being rude or calling someone names. There is forgiving
someone for harming them mentally or physically. No matter the reason for forgiving someone the
impact can be big on the person doing the forgiving. In The Power of OnePeekay and a few others
forgive people for harming them or just insulting them. Peekay is the one who forgives people
most often. Peekay was still able to forgive the Judge after he wronged him multiple times. He
still had it in his heart to do so. Peekay also would forgive the Judge because he realized that what
the Judge had done to him had improved him physically and mentally. Even though Peekay was
able to forgive people that didn t mean he was able to forget the things they had done to him. He
was still hurt by the way they treated him. In The Power of One, Bryce Courtenay uses the theme
of forgivenessto demonstrate how Peekay can forgive after many hardships, how Peekay can
forgive someone because the way they wronged him helped him later in life, and how forgiving
doesn t always mean forgetting. Courtenay expresses the theme of forgiveness by using Peekay as
an example of how someone can forgive even after many hardships. Throughout the story Peekay is
continuously having struggles with bullies, losing people, and trying to start his boxing career. The

examines the global economic and political forces and highlight the importance of human elements

What Is Mlk Legacy
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a caring and passionate leader and symbol for change, provided
inspiration to encourage the integration of the American society, with the inequality for the colored
people. To fully appreciate MLK s legacy, one has to understand his importance during the
American Civil Rights Movement. The American Civil Warwas growing, which could have very
likely led to the fall of the strongest nation in the world.
MLK knew that the nation would fall if we kept fighting. His solution averted a war between the
races. During the Cold War, the Soviets would have loved the fighting that was taking place in
America. Dr. King prevented violent actions that could have very seriously weakened America.
Today, America has a remembrance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first building block that he talks about was to determine whether injustices are alive. If a
corruption is found and flourishing, the society as a whole must correct the injustice with peace. A
society cannot look away and justify an action that could be damaging to a population. People
must study the fairness of capital distribution within their communities. For example, on present
day minimum wage, can someone live at a standard that they would desire? Do we find suffering
within that group? A society that answers yes to these questions must come to the conclusion that
corruptions are still here today. The second building block Dr. King described is self purification.
MLK, one of six colored people who were among hundreds at the integrated Crozer Theological
Seminary, had to go through the self purification process. A activist for change has to go through a
process where an sync occurs, with the catalyst and society that has to be changed. The catalyst
must know their preconceptions, prejudice, and feelings towards the ones who they try to change.
When the activist has reached a certain level of self purification, they can start adding on to the the

Essay On The Things They Carried
The Things They Carried provides a personal view into the minds of soldiers, and tells us the
emotional and psychological costs of war. First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross is stationed in Vietnam
in the middle of the war. He seems to be a man in love, or more like a man in love with the idea
of a lady named Martha. He ends up changing from a love struck, blind man into a firm, leading
soldier. In this story, the characters do the things they do because of desires and motivations. In The
Things They Carry, Tim O Brien underlines the setting, items that characters humped (O Brien,
2009, pg. 3) or carried, and the characters themselves to set the theme. The story takes place during

surgical tape and comic books and all the things a medic must carry, including M M s for

Henry Dobbins carries a twenty three pound unloaded M 60 with approximately fifteen pounds

I Am The Product Of Clark County Educational System Essay
Reflection
Introduction
Writing has never been my forte. Nevertheless, this is not to say that I could not write. Throughout
the semester with the assigned reading assignments and the given practical writing exercises I have
come to grasp a vague understanding, I had never been taught how to write essays correctly. I am
the product of Clark County Educational system. I have always struggled through my last classes
and hoped to get out of my struggles this semester. One the greatest challenges that I faced was the
distinction that existed among different types of writings that are performed within the English
language. I did not understand how the distinction between a narrative essay, report essay and an
analytical essay, argumentative essay, and reflective essay among other types of essays. I just
thought all was the same regarding content and structure.
Additionally, this semester has, however, had an influence on my writingskills and ability a great
deal. Before this class, I began my papers with plain facts. The readings and the writing conducted
throughout this semester have enabled me to understand the wrongs and the rights encompassed
within the English language. Before engaging in writing, I started by discussing my thoughts and
impressions with my peers or basically a brainstorming session. Finally, finishes up with a computer
search on the subject assigned. Furthermore, the overview and the in depth study conducted on the
topic was very helpful. I became

Hedda Gabler Role In Society
In the play Hedda Gabler, Henrik Ibsen has clearly shown the audience how the end of the 19th
century has influenced his own portrayal of his characters and their role in society. It is important
to take into consideration the expectations placed upon women at that time and to understand the
limited roles they had to play in society. However in Ibsen s play, he has decided to show an ideal
society by giving a greater amount of freedom to women by showing them to be more independent.
These ideologies have been shown through the character of Hedda Gablerand the play is a reaction
to how society would react to a woman with such liberties . Through the setting of the play, the
feeling of entrapment of Hedda Gabler is going to be explored: a feeling... Show more content on

When Mrs. Elvsted leaves a bouquet of flowers on the piano, it s a symbol of gratitude. I believe
that the flowers depict relationships that Hedda has with people. However by the end of act 2
most of the flowers have been removed showing that her relationships with other characters have
become limited. This is further brought across through to the audience because they are placed
in glasses and vases which are very fragile objects; ones that can easily be broken just like Hedda
s relationships with other people. This could be one of the reasons why she decides to take her
own life with the pistol. Her relations with other people gradually dissipate and she believes that no
one understands her as she has different perspectives. The feeling of frustration and anger could

Verbal Irony In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
The crooked toothed dentist looks downward upon his fearful client. Wait, a crooked toothed
dentist? Ironic, isn t it. Irony is a clever literary device that many authors use to make the
audience stop and ponder what has been said, emphasize a central topic or idea, or do both.
Nathaniel Hawthorne, being the exceptional author that he is,uses each of the three types of irony,
verbal, dramatic, and situational, to affirm his simple truth, Be true! Be true! Be true! throughout
his novel. This chair is as comfortable as sitting on nails. Verbal irony is when a character or
narrator says something the expresses the opposite of what is actually meant and, moreover, it is
quite effortless to incorporate into a novel. Sarcasm and verbal irony... Show more content on

If he had simply confessed to his crime earlier, Chillingworth may not have chosen to seek
vengeance seeing that the reverend has already reaped what he sowed. While the firefighters of
New York City are out on duty, their fire station burns down. Situational irony is when what
happens directly contradicts what was expected to happen. In the case of Hawthorne s novel,
situational irony is shown predominantly in the final scaffold scene. Dimmesdale, on the scaffold
with Hester and Pearl, confesses his sin to the onlookers below and he assumes that his guilty
conscience will be cleansed and he will live on a happy life. Conversely, though, he collapses on
the scaffold and promptly dies. To quote the bible, from John 8:32 Then you will know the truth,
and the truth will set you free. Dimmesdale s confession to the community set him free of
Chillingworth s grasp, as well as his human binds. As the reverend, he must believe in the Christian
s version of the afterlife, so his death brought to him arguably by God himself, frees him of the
terrible puritan community. Irony has been a staple in literature centuries before Hawthorne s time
and continues to work centuries later in today s writing. The first

Muslims should not be judged by their race, or what their past race members have done. Also,
many other people are persecuted because of their race. Such as Indigenous people who are being

It is necessary to know about the variation of effects of hypoxia if any on the persons depending
on their age and sex. As the effects of hypoxia may or may not present for a long time, it is
necessary to conduct tests on the pilots regarding hypoxia for each flight or in some airlines,
they test pilots for the effects of hypoxia before each flight (Sharma L: 2007) so that necessary
medication could be given. However, according to Good W.A (1991, 104) the performance of the
pilots might be degraded with both prescribed and over the counter medications as well as by the
medical conditions for which they are taken (Good W.A; 1991, 104). Normally, the medicines of
hypoxia are sedative, tranquilizer or antihistamine. These medicines make a pilot much more
susceptible to hypoxia (Good W.A; 1991, 104) and hence it is necessary for the pilots to minimize
the use of over the counter medicines. In addition to the above precautions alcohol can impair the
pilot even many hours after its consumption and digestion due to hangover. The impairment of pilot
may cause flight accidents and some of the major accidents give ground to the argument that

Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin Essay
Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney :
Eli Whitney was the inventor of the cotton gin and a pioneer in the mass production of cotton.
Whitney was born in Westboro , Massachusetts., on Dec. 8, 1765, and died on Jan. 8, 1825. He
graduated from Yale College in 1792. By April 1793, Whitney had designed and constructed the
cotton gin, a machine that automated the separation of cottonseed from the short staple cotton fiber.
Eli Whitney s machine could produce up to 23 kg (50 lb) of cleaned cotton daily, making southern
cotton a profitable crop for the first time, but Whitney failed to profit from his invention, imitations
of his machine appeared, and his 1794 invention was not upheld until 1807.

Background on the Cotton Gin
The cotton gin is a device for removing the seeds from cotton fiber. Simple devices for that
purpose have been around for centuries, an East Indian machine called a charka was used to
separate the seeds from the lint when the fiber was pulled through a set of rollers. The charka was
designed to work with long staple cotton, but American cotton is short staple cotton. The cottonseed
in Colonial America was removed by hand, usually the work of slaves.
Eli Whitney s machine was the first to clean short staple cotton. His cotton engine consisted of
spiked teeth mounted on a boxed revolving cylinder which, when turned by a crank, pulled the
cotton fiber through small slotted openings so as to separate the seeds from the lint a rotating
brush, operated via a belt and pulleys, removed the fibrous lint from the projecting spikes.
The gins later became horse drawn and water powered gins and cotton production increased, along
with lowered costs. Cotton soon became the number one selling textile.
After the invention of the cotton gin, the yield of raw cotton doubled each decade after 1800.
Demand was fueled by other inventions of the Industrial Revolution, such as the machines to spin
and weave it and the steamboat to transport it. By mid century America was growing three quarters
of the world s supply of cotton, most

Essay about Land Without Bread
Land Without Bread by Luis Bunuel There are numerous ethnographic surrealist films that have an
intriguing relationship to aesthetics and politics. A film that exemplifies this relationship is Las
Hurdes: Tierra Sin Pan (Land Without Bread). This film is only 27 minutes and is directed by the
infamous Luis Bunuel in 1933. Bunuel was a Spanish filmmaker of the 1920 s to the 1970 s. He is

Alberca with the watching of a strange and barbaric ceremony. Once the people of the town are
drunk with wine, the expedition continues to an uninhibited monastery. Afterwards, we move on
to the first village of Las Hurdes, where numerous young girls eat bread dipped in the water of a
small stream. At the local school, starving children study geometry and educational moral
lessons. Arriving in another village, the expedition meets a choir of idiots and then finds a
young girl ill in the street. Land Without Bread then surveys the Hurdanos diet of potatoes,
beans, pork, and honey. The scene where a goat falls off a mountain and a donkey is covered
and killed by bees is staged unbeknownst to the viewer. A short lived essay on mosquitoes and
malaria leads into a portion on illness and dwarfism, caused by hunger, by lack of hygiene, and
by incest. . As the camera pans across some graves marked with crosses, we hear that, despite the

Universities or TCUs are the other) federally designated by law and therefore, cannot increase in
number with an act of Congress (Li, 2007). In other words, every time an HBCU closes its doors,
we get one step closer to the elimination of the historical and consequential institutions. To
understand the significance of these institutions one must understand the context in which these
institutions were established. In the most basic sense, HBCUs were established because of racism
(Evans, Evans, Evans, 2002). Prior to the Civil War, few universities espoused the mission and goal

Evaluation Plan For Project Development And Implementation
An evaluation plan is one of the most critical elements of a project because it helps to measure the
project s success. In addition, the evaluation plan provides information that allows for adjustments
/improvements during project development and implementation. According to Howlett, et. al., there
are four types of evaluations (Benchmark Evaluation, Formative Evaluation, Summative Evaluation
and Impact or Outcome Evaluation.) My organization has opted to utilize the Benchmark
Evaluation type. Howlett, et. al., describes the Benchmark Evaluation as follows, before you begin
your work, you must document the current situation so that measurements taken during and after
project implementation can be compared to the starting point. (Baseline) (p.124) There are,
however; some aspects of the other Evaluation types that can be beneficial. For example, the
Formative Evaluation allows for collecting continuous feedback from participants in the program,
which will enable the program to be revised, if needed. The Summative Evaluation allows for
collecting data on the impact of a program after a year of operation in the community. Lastly, the
Impact or Outcome Evaluation type evaluates what has changed with individuals, groups, the
community and/or the knowledge base as a result of the project. The Benchmark Evaluation, which
we have chosen as our primary evaluation tool, will provide data that can be used to assess the larger

Helmut Schwab and Sri Aurobindo presented two examples of using the term cosmopsychology in
this expanded, non astrological context. The Dutch physician Matthijs Cornelissen of the Indian
Psychology Institute used the term cosmopsychology in regards to the teachings of the Indian
teacher Sri Aurobindo (1872 1950).6 Aurobindo called his cosmopsychology or spiritual
psychology integral yoga. His teachings have also been referred to as integral psychology and as
integrality. Integral yoga is based on Hinduism s Advaita Vedanta (not two) or non dual philosophy.
According to Aurobindo, consciousness pervades the universe and manifests in a range of
gradations. Consciousness undergoes both involutionary and evolutionary phases. Its involutionary
phase is seen as the creation of matter and the physical universe. Its evolutionary phase is seen in
the evolution of life and the spiritual development of humanity. Aurobindo s teachings focused
primarily on the ongoing evolution of consciousness by means of the spiritual development of the
individual. Aurobindo described three systems of mind or consciousness: (1) the surface/outer
/frontal consciousness (typically gross state), consisting of physical, vital, and mental levels of
consciousness; (2) a deeper/psychic/soul system behind the frontal in each of its levels (inner
physical, inner vital, inner mental, and innermost psychic or soul; typically subtle state); and (3) the

Alcohol Abuse And Alcohol Use Disorder
A brief history of alcohol and its use, alcohol has been around since the birth of man. Alcohol has
been used for medical reasons, as well as recreational use. As far as historians can tell, the abuse of
Alcohol had been around just as long. But people haven t considered it some type of disorder until
the 19th century. In 1819, German Doctor C. W. Hufeland coined the term Dipsomania.
Dipsomania was the uncontrollable craving for alcohol. In 1849, Dipsomania became known as
Alcoholism. In the 1920 s, Alcoholism was so bad and out of controll, that America had a
Prohibition Period in which alcohol was illegal. In the DSM IV, there were two different and
distinct disorders (or subtypes) involving alcohol. Both of these disorders (or subtypes) had their

South Africa and the AIDS Crisis
The AIDS crisis has been a very controversial issue in the history of South Africa beginning in
1982. During this time South Africa has made a government transition from apartheid to a
democracy. Since many national issues needed to be address, the AIDS crisis was pushed aside,
leaving a pandemic in the process. Many factors have contributed to the issues including: poverty,
social instability, high levels of sexually transmitted infections, the low status of women, sexual
violence, migrant labor, limited access to quality medical care, and a history of poor leadership in
the response to the pandemic. After three decades of controversy in South Africadealing with issues
involving the government, medicine, and conflict the country is still feeling the after effect today
regarding the largest AIDSpandemic.
In 1982 the first case of AIDS in South Africa was diagnosed in a homosexual white man who
was believed to contract the disease while in California. Later that year two hundred and fifty
random blood samples were taken from homosexual men living in Johannesburg, the virus
infected 12.8% of the men. When AIDs was first diagnosed, many Africans believed it was only a
disease for homosexuals and drug addicts, this did not prove to be the case. The first death of a

Doing Business in Saudi Arabia Essay
International Business
Saudi Arabia s Dynamic Culture
Introduction The American way of business differs from many other countries across the world.
Each company has their own set of tactics that they use to close big deals. Businesses from Saudi
Arabia, on the other hand, tend to do things a bit differently. They take pride in getting to know the
individuals from the other company before even disclosing any information to them. Meetings
sometimes take place in less than formal locations such as coffee shops and cafes. The religious

(Martinez Carter). When doing business internationally, it is important to consider how businesses
operate within their culture. In western societies such as our own, businesses tend to be deal
focused where people are more task oriented. Independence and personal initiative characterize
U.S. communication style because the U.S. work culture is very outcome oriented (Martinez
Carter). Saudi Arabia, on the contrary, follows a relationship focus culture, where people put
dealings with friends ahead of business dealings. In Saudi Arabia they are part of a family
centered society where trust of others is highly correlated with the degree of familiarity with them
(Daniels 48). It is uncommon for businesses here to take a long time to decide if they will partake
in a business transaction. Patience is important when conducting business in Saudi Arabia since
decisions are made slowly and in a bureaucratic manner (McLaughlin). The relationship focus
businesses will not be so quick to conduct a business deal. They would rather take the time and
learn about the business and individuals they are dealing with.
The deal focused businesses like to get right to business with as little time wasting as possible. It
can not be determined that one is better than the other. However it is more reasonable to follow
what your culture defines as more common. The Saudi way of life is based around religion and

Garcinia Cambogia
Garcinia cambogia extract is a weight loss pill that was advertised by Dr. Oz during a segment
on his daytime talk show. Dr. Oz introduced the product using persuasive language to provoke
viewer interest, claiming the pill is the magic ingredient to lose weight without diet or exercise.
He explained that garcinia cambogia extract is found in the rind of tamarind fruit from
Southeast Asia and that the fruit is known to have medicinal benefits. Dr. Oz stated that garcinia
cambogia may have more promise than other weight loss products because it reduces body fat
and suppresses appetite. The active ingredient found in garcinia cambogia, hydroxycitric acid
(HCA), aids to block an enzyme which makes fat. HCA also increases the release of the
hormone serotonin, which reduces the craving for food. Additionally, garcinia cambogia can
decrease total cholesterol and triglycerides, with potential improvement in leptin and insulin
resistance in the obese. The product was advertised during the segment to target women who are
seeking an easy alternative to lose weight fast. This is apparent as the majority of the studio
audience is composed of middle aged women who represent the intended population. By allowing

Civil Society And Globalization Essay
A globalized society creates an increasingly complicated set of forces and factors that bring
people, cultures, markets, and beliefs together. The improvement of technology, transportation,
and communication means that in the last century businesses, governments, and people are
being drawn into greater proximity with one another. As a result, the notion of civil society is
slowly being challenged because state borders are no longer containers of society , meaning that
the state is no longer a fixed unit of sovereign space (Agnew, 59). One of the key phenomenon of
globalization is the emergence of a global civil society. Global civil society refers to the vast
assembly of groups operating across borders and beyond the reach of... Show more content on

Therefore, global civil society and globality/globalization are two ideas that are inherently linked
and interdependent on the definitions of one another. Globalization is a key concept that engenders
a set of terms that embody it. Terms like interconnection, interdependence, liberalization, etc make
us think of a global situation that is marked by intense interaction and interdependence between
country units (Scholte, 237). Therefore, global civil society is what defines relations and social
connections in a globalized world where territorial location, territorial distance, and territorial
borders do not have a determining influence because the idea of place as territorially fixed is
diminishing (Scholte, 237). An important concept of civil society is its influence on civic activity
on a domestic scale and the influence that activity has on the organization of national politics. A
large reason why the development of global civil society occurred was in response to the changing
political environment as a result of globalization. According to Scholte, new geography has ended
the state s effective monopoly on governance that developed under conditions of territorialism
(241). In other words, in the new post sovereign world policies and administration does not
adequately reflect citizenship and democracy because these ideals no longer center around the state.
That is why global civil society is the attempt of citizens to

Why I Am N Д’
Am nД“ zha The sun was ascending so fast on the horizon when Aika and I blundered through
the market as we way back from jogging on the Kuala Lumpur street. The aroma of coffee
permeated the market s air. As we were walking, I stopped after identifying some fascinating
small portrait sneaking at the corner of a chair. Wait, I need to see something, I beamed to Aika.
She whipped her head and when I looked, shooting one last glance toward her, she shooed me
with her right hand in the air. Then, she indicated she was going to grab some cappuccino from
Starbuck located in the middle of the street. I gave her the signal and diverted my attention on
the miniature. I edged slowly into the chair and I crouched down to pick the portrait, to get a
better look. My eyes irresistibly draw to the crack at the center of the portrait. I put it back, with
my brown eyes lit up at the price tag, who had introduced into shrinking cost. I walked away
from the stall and as I rambled down the street to rejoin Aika. I saw a diary located on the
sidewalk. It was bounded by brown paper, twine wrapped around it and a dusty plastic flower at
the center. I took a step to pick it up on the highest shelf. Then my heart began to hammer in my
ribcage, as I slid the flower on the right side, eyes widened to the name written in swirly black ink,
it was my name. An image viewed in my head of writing a diary. I d never written in swirly black
ink before, or even kept a notebook. The scorching heat

The Impact Of Globalization And Global Impacts Of Culture
Globalization and global trend of culture have defined the processes in which we share and
connect ourselves, others, and the world. Globalization can take on many different shapes and
forms in its free flow of goods and services across national boarders. As we know globalization is
an integration of business and trade among different organizations. So, when there is an
international interaction that can easily affect people s cultural, environmental and social life in
one way or the other that can easily create a disorder in growth and could impact the local human
right in different ways. Cultureis one the many things affected by globalizationthrough different
ways of international trading processes. Nations have been tackling to preserve their indigenous
cultures and mores from the influential cultures in different ways. The Canadian Magazine Dispute
is one of the many examples of culture and trade disputes that create conflict of benefits between
Canadaand the US.
The Canadian Magazine Dispute is a dispute between US and Canada which was occurred in 1995,
with implications for cultural concerns that turned into a trade dispute concerned the selling of
magazines in Canada. Even though the Canadian federal government stated as protecting local
cultures as to describe the enforcement of entry of foreign printed magazines, but it s more about
the competiveness of the local printers and financial interest verses the American magazines. The

Colonization of the New World
Colonization of the New World
The discovery and colonization of the New World was one of the most significant and influential
events in the known history of mankind. It has shaped our present by changing the course of our
past and is a time of such great significance that it would be all but impossible to understand
today without at least some comprehension of the why s of yesterday. What was it that drove
such a myriad of people to risk so much to tame the wild and vast lands we now know as and call
the Americas. What were the reasons, motivations, causes, events, and possibilities that captured the
minds and hearts of so many different peoples from such divers backgrounds? What led them to

According to Howard Zinn it was for the Gold. Zinn claims that it was money and power that were
driving forces behind Columbus. He tells us that Spain promised him a 10% cut of all the gold
found, governorship of any new found lands, and the new title of Admiral.[2] Gold and the
regulation thereof are the primary focuses of Columbus letter to the King and Queen of Spain,
thought to have been written around the year 1492, but definitely written after the his initial
discovery.[3] So whether wholly or in part it appears that riches and power were factors
contributing to Columbus decision to risk so much. After all he made multiple trips across the
Atlantic not just one. So apparently he was concerned with more than just the discovery of a trade
route. Columbus discovery was made possible by the Spanish Crown therefore all new found
lands were claimed in the name of Spain and a Spanish flag planted on the soil thereof in testament
to this fact. Spain was still a catholic nation at this time and the Spanish monarchy still
acknowledged the Pope as the dominant spiritual authority on the Earth. However it would not be
long after Columbus discovery that all of Europe would be shaken to its very foundation and set
ablaze in what we now call the Protestant Reformation. This revolution in spiritual thought was the
result of a simple

  • 2. D G Gang Rape Advert Television commercials or print ads are often developed that rely on unusual creative tactics and have very little relevance to the product or service being advertised. Solar energy reduces the amount of harm to the environment from energy generation, by providing a cleaner alternative. Solar energy also provides jobs for construction and installation of solar powered technologies. The cost of installing solar panels can vary greatly, but its long term benefits outweigh the costs. Typically a solar panel system is a three kilowatts to eight kilowatts system that cost fifteen thousand to forty thousand dollars to install, total cost depends on circumstances of installation. However tax credits and incentives help recoup a portion of the cost in the first year, the savings of electricity cost makes installing the system profitable in under 10 years (Maehlum). Purchasing the system requires a large loan, however paying the loan can be substantially better than paying utility bills when the investment will eventually be paid for. If the system is large enough to handle the requirements of the household, the only payment for electricity will be the cost of the loan. Making loan payments instead of paying utility bills is predictable, and any excess energy will be used as a credit for months were the owner s energy use may exceed the generated amount. • 6. Essay Comparing The Marriage Of Figaro And Twelfth Night A common discussion between the sexes is the omnipotent power that men seem to hold over women in all societies. Why do men always have the social advantage over women? Both Shakespeare s Twelfth Night and Beaumarchais The Marriage of Figaro show that there is indeed a social stigma placed on women where women are not allowed as much freedom to either fight back against a suitor or choose not to accept a suitor s love and choose another. Shakespeare s Twelfth Night focuses mainly on the negative stigmas against women, while Beaumarchais The Marriage of Figaro places most of the blame for perpetuating the stigmas on the aristocracy, especially the men within the aristocracy (i.e. the Count). The Countess, too, is in a similar position, although she is of the aristocracy. The Countess is held strictly accountable for the rumors that she was engaging in an affair, even though the Count himself is attempting to engage in his own affair with Suzanne. The Count accuses the Countess of unfaithfulness and doesn t even consider that his own attempt at an affair is an account of his own unfaithfulness. We see how the virtual world and the physical world collide in a narrative written by Sherry Turkle called Alone Together. She discusses how children interact with technological toys that are able to evoke emotions such as love. Understanding what effect the environmenthas on us is one of the main topics presented by Malcolm Gladwell in his narrative titled The Power of Context. Gladwell defines the environment as what we experience in our immediate social and physical worlds. As the environment changes, humans will adapt with it to alleviate the stress that comes with living in multiple and conflicting environments. One would have to adapt their behavior and thoughts, changing their traditional experiences of the self they once had. President Barak Obama announced to the Australian parliament in November 2011 that the United States had commenced a review to establish key strategic interests in order to guide budgetary and defense priorities. Throughout the semester with the assigned reading assignments and the given practical writing exercises I have come to grasp a vague understanding, I had never been taught how to write essays correctly. I am the product of Clark County Educational system. I have always struggled through my last classes and hoped to get out of my struggles this semester. One the greatest challenges that I faced was the distinction that existed among different types of writings that are performed within the English language. I did not understand how the distinction between a narrative essay, report essay and an analytical essay, argumentative essay, and reflective essay among other types of essays. I just thought all was the same regarding content and structure. Additionally, this semester has, however, had an influence on my writingskills and ability a great deal. Before this class, I began my papers with plain facts. The readings and the writing conducted throughout this semester have enabled me to understand the wrongs and the rights encompassed within the English language. Before engaging in writing, I started by discussing my thoughts and impressions with my peers or basically a brainstorming session. Finally, finishes up with a computer search on the subject assigned. Furthermore, the overview and the in depth study conducted on the topic was very helpful. I became ... Hedda Gabler Role In Society In the play Hedda Gabler, Henrik Ibsen has clearly shown the audience how the end of the 19th century has influenced his own portrayal of his characters and their role in society. It is important to take into consideration the expectations placed upon women at that time and to understand the limited roles they had to play in society. However in Ibsen s play, he has decided to show an ideal society by giving a greater amount of freedom to women by showing them to be more independent. These ideologies have been shown through the character of Hedda Gablerand the play is a reaction to how society would react to a woman with such liberties . • 26. Verbal Irony In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter The crooked toothed dentist looks downward upon his fearful client. Wait, a crooked toothed dentist? Ironic, isn t it. Irony is a clever literary device that many authors use to make the audience stop and ponder what has been said, emphasize a central topic or idea, or do both. Nathaniel Hawthorne, being the exceptional author that he is,uses each of the three types of irony, verbal, dramatic, and situational, to affirm his simple truth, Be true! Be true! In the case of Hawthorne s novel, situational irony is shown predominantly in the final scaffold scene. Dimmesdale, on the scaffold with Hester and Pearl, confesses his sin to the onlookers below and he assumes that his guilty conscience will be cleansed and he will live on a happy life. Conversely, though, he collapses on the scaffold and promptly dies. To quote the bible, from John 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Dimmesdale s confession to the community set him free of Chillingworth s grasp, as well as his human binds. As the reverend, he must believe in the Christian s version of the afterlife, so his death brought to him arguably by God himself, frees him of the terrible puritan community. Whitney was born in Westboro , Massachusetts., on Dec. 8, 1765, and died on Jan. 8, 1825. He graduated from Yale College in 1792. By April 1793, Whitney had designed and constructed the cotton gin, a machine that automated the separation of cottonseed from the short staple cotton fiber. Eli Whitney s machine could produce up to 23 kg (50 lb) of cleaned cotton daily, making southern cotton a profitable crop for the first time, but Whitney failed to profit from his invention, imitations of his machine appeared, and his 1794 invention was not upheld until 1807. Background on the Cotton Gin The cotton gin is a device for removing the seeds from cotton fiber. Simple devices for that purpose have been around for centuries, an East Indian machine called a charka was used to separate the seeds from the lint when the fiber was pulled through a set of rollers. The charka was designed to work with long staple cotton, but American cotton is short staple cotton. The cottonseed in Colonial America was removed by hand, usually the work of slaves. Eli Whitney s machine was the first to clean short staple cotton. His cotton engine consisted of spiked teeth mounted on a boxed revolving cylinder which, when turned by a crank, pulled the cotton fiber through small slotted openings so as to separate the seeds from the lint a rotating brush, operated via a belt and pulleys, removed the fibrous lint from the projecting spikes. The gins later became horse drawn and water powered gins and cotton production increased, along with lowered costs. Cotton soon became the number one selling textile. After the invention of the cotton gin, the yield of raw cotton doubled each decade after 1800. Demand was fueled by other inventions of the Industrial Revolution, such as the machines to spin and weave it and the steamboat to transport it. In addition, the evaluation plan provides information that allows for adjustments /improvements during project development and implementation. According to Howlett, et. al., there are four types of evaluations (Benchmark Evaluation, Formative Evaluation, Summative Evaluation and Impact or Outcome Evaluation.) My organization has opted to utilize the Benchmark Evaluation type. Howlett, et. al., describes the Benchmark Evaluation as follows, before you begin your work, you must document the current situation so that measurements taken during and after project implementation can be compared to the starting point. (Baseline) (p.124) There are, however; some aspects of the other Evaluation types that can be beneficial. For example, the Formative Evaluation allows for collecting continuous feedback from participants in the program, which will enable the program to be revised, if needed. The Summative Evaluation allows for collecting data on the impact of a program after a year of operation in the community. Lastly, the Impact or Outcome Evaluation type evaluates what has changed with individuals, groups, the community and/or the knowledge base as a result of the project. As a result, the notion of civil society is slowly being challenged because state borders are no longer containers of society , meaning that the state is no longer a fixed unit of sovereign space (Agnew, 59). Globalization is a key concept that engenders a set of terms that embody it. Therefore, global civil society is what defines relations and social connections in a globalized world where territorial location, territorial distance, and territorial borders do not have a determining influence because the idea of place as territorially fixed is diminishing (Scholte, 237). An important concept of civil society is its influence on civic activity on a domestic scale and the influence that activity has on the organization of national politics.
