Lionel Messi Research Paper
Maradona is one of the greatest soccer players of all time. He was considered to be the greatest

What Is The Relationship Between George And Ophelia Naylor...
Gloria Naylor s Mama Day
George and Ophelia grow up in significantly different environments with exposure to vastly
dissimilar experiences; their diverse backgrounds have a profound impact on the way they interpret
and react to situations as adults. George and Ophelia both grow up without their parents, but for
different reasons. George grows up at the Wallace P. Andrews Shelterfor Boys in New York. The
Shelter s strict surroundings did not provide the warm and inviting atmosphere that a mother
strives for in a home. The employees at the Shelter are not loving people, (p. 23) but they are
devoted to their job, and the boys. At a young age, Ophelia loses her mother. We learn very little
about her apparently absent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, when he sees Ophelia twice in one day, he doesn t know what to think. He has a successful
life at the age of 31, and that just goes to prove that you got nothing from believing in crossed
fingers, broken mirrors, spilled salt a twist in your gut in the middle of a Third Avenue coffee
shop. (p.33) When people have a gut feeling like George has in the coffee shop, they usually try
to do something about it; and when the same person they had that feeling about walks into their
office 30 minutes later, they usually consider it an act of fate. But George isn t a man of those
beliefs; in fact he almost forgets about Ophelia until the letter comes from her. Ophelia, on the
other hand, believes in fate. Not to say she knew they were going to marry each other because
they meet twice in one day, but she doesn t completely forget as George does. She grows up with
magic and believes that you can feel and hear things if you choose to.
George and Ophelia approach the interview process from different perspectives, as well. In her
independent and determined manner, she left Willow Springs to venture off into the real world.
The grades she makes in school and the fact that she survives the obstacles of life in New York
City are due to her headstrong, independent attitude. The people of Willow Springs demonstrated

Software Testing For Software Development Lifecycle
Abstract At the end of 20th century software industry started booming. From then, not only it has
never looked back, but it s continuously growing at a very high rate. Customers always prefer
quality software products and hence software quality is at the heart of any successful business that
develops software. Software testingenables once to quantify the software quality and hence testing
has become an integral and very important part of the software development life cycle. There s this
saying that humans make mistakes all the time which should enough to conclude that the software
developed by humans needs to be tested of bugs and intended functionality to ensure a high quality

A software tester s job is to attempt to break the system in every possible way so that all faults
will be detected, which will therefore increase the likelihood of delivering fault free software to the
customer.
This coursework familiarizes students with software testing tools and techniques such as unit
testing frameworks, Design of Experiments, Regression Testing, Code Coverage analysis, Static
code analysis and reliability testing.
II.PROBLEM STATEMENT
To provide an overview of the various tools and techniques available for software testing, the
coursework comprised of five assignments. Each assignment was to study, how to use an existing
testing tool or technique to aid the process of verification and validation of the software.
The first assignment was based on Software Unit Testing Framework. To ease the process of
writing tests most of the programming languages have their unit testing frameworks. For instance
Junit, a go to the unit testing framework for Java, allows developers to write repeatable tests in
Java. Junit is by far the most famous Unit testing framework and has become de facto standard
format. Moreover it has been an inspiration for other relatively new programming languages such as
PyUnit for Python. The unit testing frameworks

Case Study Formula 1
Q1. What do you need in order to succeed in Formula One? The case studies emphasise that all
three racing teams focussed on different strategies. Their strategies changed within the environment
and circumstances, but what is overwhelmingly evident is that a team needs all the elements to be
in synergy and for focus to be on every aspect of the strategy. As the old adage, A team is only as
strong as its weakest link. This means that in order to be successful and to maintain success, you ve
got to get all the elements right, the overall package, the budget, the designer, the engine, the
drivers, the organisation and every aspect, from what is deemed most important to the least

Whilst all of these technological developments were taking place in the F1 arena, Ferrari chose to
focus on it s long term strategy which focused on the development of the V6 turbocharged engine.
This essentially meant that their drivers were now competing with cars that no longer held a
competitive advantage, in fact the cars were now considered inferior. The fundamental flaw in this
instance was that Ferrari had ignored the change in trends in the immediate environment and stuck
to what they felt worked. The strategy was to exploits their strengths but neglected the opportunities
that presented themselves. They had failed to respond to an immediate threat, thus exposing their
weaknesses and allowing themselves to retrogress to the extent that Ferrari was no longer
considered a threat. This was further compounded by the problems that were being experienced
between Audetto and Laude, Ferrari s strength was derived somewhat from the relationship
between Team Boss and Driver and with Audetto not being able to accomplish this, it impacted on
the performance of the team. In addition, the heavy reliance on the driver, meant that the team was
left at the mercy of it s driver, this was evident when Laude was unable to compete for six weeks,
this allowed the competition to close in on the lead that Ferrari had established. What

Bess s mother was overly expressive about cleanliness and more often than not, she would openly
convey the importance of it as well as hand washing within their home. Bess, at the time was lost
as to why her mother would stress cleanliness so strongly and so often. This caused Bess to resist
her mother s demands at home pertaining to cleanliness but, she did comply with her mother s
value system in school (Meyer, Chapman amp; Weaver, 2009, p.44). Bess was of very high
intellect, extremely hardworking, meticulous and very successful in school.
During late adolescence, Bess began acquiring erotic fantasies but could control them by
completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Bess had no problems maintaining friendships with
guys; however sexual and romantic relationships were what posed a challenge. While a senior in
high school, Bess dated a college guy who frequently asked for sex, in which Bess refused. One
drunken night, they engaged in sex and from and for a period of several weeks they had sex
daily. Bess became pregnant and her mother immediately arranged for an abortion. Afterwards,
Bess continued to have vague anxieties about dating, marriage, having a family, and other related
issues (Meyer, Chapman, amp; Weaver, 2009, p. 45). Bess was determined to work even harder to
cope with these anxieties. Similar to her mother s model of cleanliness, Bess too began
experiencing these symptoms.

My Papa Waltz Analysis
In this poem My Papa Waltz by Theodore Roethke, the writer is describing a relationship
between a father and son. The relationship is characterized by a form of dance which is waltzing.
This dance was taught by the father to the son. Throughout the poem, the writer uses aggressive
words such as death, knuckle, buckle, and beat letting it be known that this is not a pleasant
poem. This poem is from the viewpoint of the innocent child that is why it is possible to see the
truth in this poem. In the poem, the child is being hurt by his father. The writer tries to beautify a
father hurting his child with a beautiful dance, the speaker does this to make the beaten readable
so he used the waltzing metaphor. You would think this is a nice moment between a father and his
child but instead, it is just a cover up of what s really going on in this home.
He used the word beat in this line which refers to a musical beat but also physical assault comes to
mind as well. You beat time on my head. They were, in fact, waltzing to music, but he was also
getting beat in the process. The beaten is taken place directly in this scene which is being described
by the son. By now the dance was becoming more physical. It is so much commotion going on with
this dance that they re hitting things in the house, the father is not stopping because he is too
drunk. Their beginning to move around the house more. They only start hitting things in the kitchen

Media Plan For Izze Sparkling Soda
Instructor assignment #4: Media Plan for IZZE Sparkling Soda
The media we chose to put an emphasis on is radio, Internet and cable television. The percentages
for each are radio 40%, Internet 30% and cable television 30%. For radio we have strategically
chosen to place our advertisements on the weekday morning drive time from 6am to 10am and on
weekends from 7pm to midnight. The vehicles chosen for Internet are the websites iTunes, ESPN
and iHeart Radio. For Cable Televisionservices we have chosen the vehicles Spike TV, Food
Network and ION.
There are numerous reasons why we decided to put the largest emphasis on radio. For one, our
demographic is males 18 34 and according to the PowerPoint, we learned that males at that age are a

According to the United Nations Report, 1.5 billion Internet users are male, while 1.3 billion
are female. This statistic supports our decision for choosing this specific medium. In Media
Mark, we searched both Other Regular Soft Drinks and Sparkling Water. We compared the two
reports and selected the highest reach/index numbers. The vehicles we found specific to our
target audience are iTunes, which has a reach of 35,600,000 and an index number of 135, ESPN
with a reach of 36,455,000 and an index number of 111 and iHeart Radio, which had a reach of
12,771,000 and an index number of 117. Other websites that we considered but did not choose
were Pandora (46,726,000/109) and NFL (17,898,000/110). From this research we were able to
determine that our target had an interest in music and sports. This further supports our decision to
place a larger emphasis on radio.
From the PowerPoint, we learned that Cable Television is a highly persuasive medium because
it offers sight, sound and motion. It also reaches a large audience and specifically captures the
attention of our hard to reach target (males 18 34). We chose Cable Television over other
mediums because it provides narrowcasting opportunities to focus in on specific targets. The
vehicles that we chose within this medium are Spike TV with a reach of 35,794,000 and an index
number of 120, Food Network with a reach of 56,594,000 and an

Level Privacy Settings Should Be Good For Protect People...
Topic 3: Issue 1: High level privacy settings would be good to protect people from what they say
and post. It would also allow people to only show certain people what they are posting. If people
don t want to upload a picture of themselves I don t think they should be aloud to upload a picture
of someone else. Even with consent this could be considered false advertisement and could lead
to more problems. If someone doesn t want a picture of themselves on social media they should

Deleting someone s personal page should be their decision and not the decision of the social

The user would have to specifically give permission to people before they were aloud to see
what they were posting. There would be a legal requirement that no one on social media would
be aloud to use someone else picture or name. Even with consent. You would only be aloud to
use the default settings, which would include a blank photo and no name. Facebook, Twitter,

Marriage Viewpoints over the World
Wedding is the celebrating party where a couple decided to be united in marriage. Every country
has different tradition, cultures, social classes and religion for wedding. However, the United
States has a large population, and it includes many types of people who come from different
countries over the world. Therefore, The U.S. has a very diverse cultural and traditional
environment, especially in marriage. Based on the number of American couples married in 2010
by Marriage Rate in America , and it shows that the number of marriages in 2010 was less than
the previous year, but why did it happen? Are people afraid of marriage? Or what does it really
mean? Some people say it is just the way that people live together. After that, are the happy?
Marriage is not an easy issue because there are different traditional points of view about it on over

In India, marriage is a mean that relies on the parents decisions. For example, Marriages in India
are arranged marriages, they are forcing two people to get married. Marriages in this country is
not a relationship of love for two people, but a connection between two families. Moreover, in this
type of arranged marriage, the husband and wife have never met each other, and they have to live

experience of eight kids in the 1999 Scripps National Spelling Bee, and was captured by the 2002

preparing for the bee, the movie still captures what the students went through during the spelling

Abstract
The Callinectes sapidus also known commonly as the Maryland Blue Crab, is a crustacean found
in the Chesapeake Bay. The blue crab is found in aquatic environments, most often in estuaries. It
characterized by it s blue claws. The blue crabs undergo a life cycle of: zoeae, megalop, juvenile,

Callinectes sapidus comes from the order of Decapods, whereby it s carapace has now evolved to

It shares ancestral background with shrimp and lobsters. They are omnivores with their prey being
mussels, fish, plants, and smaller blue crabs (Society). Although the Blue Crab is well established
within its ecosystem it is highly sensitive to environmental and habitat changes ( Blue Crab,
Maryland State Crustacean , 2016). The detrimental conditions of the Chesapeake Bay have
affected the populations of Blue Crabs along with over harvesting.
Life Cycle The life cycle of a Blue Crab involves Zoeae, Megalops, Juveniles, and Adulthood
(Zinski, 2006) ( Blue Crab Life Cycle, 2016). Mating occurs only once for female crabs. Female
crabs undergo a pubertal mold which is indicative of a sexually mature state in their life cycle.
During the pubertal molt females release pheromones which attract males. The actual ritual of
mating does not occur until females molt their shells (Zinski, 2006). At which point females will
then retreat to high salinity water to begin spawning. Spawning will occur for the first time 2 9
months after mating. Interestingly, males will protect females during the period which females
have molted and it is at this point in which mating occurs (Hill, 2004). As previously mentioned
Blue Crabs are highly susceptible to changes in environmental conditions. As an example, larvae
require high salinity waters. Larvae require salinity of at least 20 ppt and below that threshold,
there is poor likelihood of survival ability.

The Reform Movements of America
American History Essay Prior to the Civil War, the United States experienced several different
reform movements. These movements included the temperance movement, education movement,
prison movements, women s rights movement, and the anti slavery movement. When glanced
together, there may initially seem to be little connection between these various different
movements. However, they were actually supported by a common theme, the liberation of the
human spirit. This idea that all humans should be free provided the support for all of the different
movements. The temperance movement was based on the idea that humanity should be free from
its own vices. The education movement linked knowledge and freedom. The prison reform
movement was not based on physical liberation, but on the idea that the spirit crushing punitive
emphasis of old fashioned prisons would not create any possibility of change in the inmates. The
women s rights movement was based upon the notion that women should not be treated as inferior
to men because of gender. Finally, the anti slavery movement did not focus solely on the idea that
slavery, as an institution, was inherently bad because it deprived people of their physical liberty
without just cause, but also on how slavery was practiced in the antebellum South and the
indignities that accompanied it. The temperance movement is one of the least understood of all the
reform movements because, while it had a tremendous impact on American society, its

Moving To A New School Essay

19 September, 2015
As an easy going person, I have never thought of the world as a harsh place. However, after going
through an intimidating incident, my view on the world is forever changed. Being bullied helped
me understand what some kids are going through everyday, and I have come to realize that bullying
needs to come to an end.
I never once believed I would be bullied; I expected every person I talked to, to treat me fairly.
Moving to a new school and a new place changed the way I portrayed others. I came from a small
town, with about 4,000 people, to a city with ten times more the population. The city was large
and so was my new school. I was so scared of what was to come of my new school. My mother
felt bad for me and introduced me to her friend s daughter, Jordan. Jordan is my age and she was
going to the same school I was. We became friends before school started and made plans of doing
homework and sitting together at lunch. I told her my worries of finding my classes and making
friends. I even told her about the cute boy, who was now my next door neighbor, Kenny. Jordan
and I quickly became friends and I was beginning to become confident on attending a new school.
Little, did I know, that becoming her friend would change my perspective on life, forever.
I eventually learned to choose my friends wisely on my first day of sophomore year. I walked into

How Will You Measure Your Life
The powerful motivator in our lives isn t money; it s the opportunity to learn, grow in
responsibilities, contribute to others, and be recognized for achievements . This quote comes from
an article written for the Harvard Business
Review, How Will You Measure Your Life by Dr. Clayton Christensen. Money cannot buy true
happiness. True happiness comes from finding meaning and purpose in one s life and acting on
that purpose. However, money for some people means everything. They believe money can buy
fame, power, or even a life.
Consequently, they attempt to find a job with high salary in order to comfort their lives. In my
opinion, the most important factors in measuring a life are satisfaction in career, accomplishing our
wishes, and helping others. To begin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, I try to pursue my dream by focusing on making a good grade and gaining experience at
university as much as possible. The first thing to do for success is to create a strategy for your life,
then do it. As mentioned in the article How will you measure your life , your goal means nothing if
you are not investing the resources to reach it. Accomplishing your dream means you have already
succeeded in your life. Finally, contributing to community can be the measurement of success.
Some people make change to the billion people s lives by brainstorming inventions, making the
healthy environment, solving social problems, and finding cures for diseases. For example,
Paveena Hongsakul, a Thai woman, built the organization called Paveena foundation. The purpose
is to help female victims of violence. Life will be measured as valuable if you have contributed to
the well being of others. Between a poor teacher and a wealthy drug dealer, some may think that the
drug dealer s life is more valuable since he has more money. However, the wealthy drug dealer do
not contribute anything to community, other than causing people to drug addictions. The teacher

Shall the Fundamentals Win by Harry Emerson Fosdick
Perhaps the most powerful, fluent, and forceful paper promoting liberal Christianity is indeed
Harry Emerson Fosdick s 1922 sermon Shall the Fundamentalists Win? . Fosdick seemed as if he
was a very captivating human being in history during his time of existence. He wrote one of the
most engaging papers that I have yet to read thus this far. It was definitely a wise decision to go
ahead and read the two articles discussing fundamentalismto catch me up so that I did not have
trouble keeping up with Fosdick s movement that he established in his sermon. Initially, I believe
that the arising church is, amongst other things, is a rectifying of liberalismfor a postmodern age.
And I m convinced that the same claims made by Fosdick in 1922 are just what we hear form
emergents today. There is nothing new that lies under the sun today. It is only natural that the
specifics argued for by the modernists are not those of the postmodern emergents. I m
dumbfounded that Fosdick s opening strategy is to compare and contrast fundamentalist with the
evangelical churches . Fortunately, Fosdick was writing during a time in period when liberals
were actually pleased with living up to their name. He does however accidentally refer to liberalism

Ender s Game Theme
Thesis based on graphic organizer: Critically acclaimed novel Ender s Game, has a brilliant
combination of layered themes that blur the lines of morality, a suburb plot which produces a wide
scope of world within the story, and a robust style that yields clear meanings that are supplemented
with harsh truths.
Review of secondary source The popular Science fiction novel Ender s Game has been read and
enjoyed by a countless number of people for years. The book is well known for the main
character and child genius Ender Wiggin, who experiences vicious internal conflict throughout the
story, Ender is also subject to a lot of pressure as he is the only person that can end the war in the

A Comparison Of The Five Characters In The Catcher In The Rye
Today I m dining with 5 characters from the novel The Catcher in the Rye, who I consider close
friends; the characters are Holden Caulfield, Ackley, Jane Gallagher, Phoebe Caulfield, and
Stradlater. By the end of our Chinese dinner we all received a fortune cookie! The first to open
their fortune cookieswas Holden. His fortunesaid, Don t be unreal, this is only appropriate for
Holden because throughout the book he struggles with accepting reality and learning how to
cooperate with it. Ackley struggles to open his fortune cookie, but he got there. His fortune said,
Lying is always your first choice, but it will become your last resort once you become the lie
yourself. This made complete sense considering Ackley was always lying about his sexual
encounters; he kept his message to himself. Jane opens hers to see a surprise, You know you re
respected and loved, embrace it. Jane is one of the few people Holden enjoys. This gave a hint to
Jane, it left her puzzled. Phoebe, Holden s younger sister opened her fortune cookie with a sly
look on her face. She read her fortune aloud, Sunshine. She got this message because her
innocence would be the sunlight to Holden s day. Soon the sexy bastard (a nickname Holden gave
to his roommate Stradlater) at the table got to his fortune cookie. The fortune cookie said, Gross.
Stradlater is embarrassed and decides not to share his fortune with the table. This fortune was
accurate because he is very unhygienic at Home. Everyone

Pros And Cons Of Naplan
HSC Minimum Standards: Missing the Real Concern
NAPLAN, the assessment program launched almost 9 years ago and already a subject of criticism
and controversy, is becoming increasing intertwined with education in NSW. The NSW Education
Standards Authority has attempted to address what they call falling standards in the NSW education
system, implementing harsher standards that mean preventing students failing to receive a Band 8
from receiving a HSC. These minimum standards , backed by former minister for education
Adrian Piccoli, have already garnered considerable attention and criticism. Already many parents
believe that their children will no longer be able to obtain a HSC, and they will do anything to try
and push up their child s result adding to the environment of already competitive pressure which
we see in schools throughout NSW, and further fuelled by so called NAPLAN practice books and
aggressive private tutoring.
Although I admit NAPLAN is a useful assessment tool, we use it for the wrong purposes. It is
irrational for use NAPLAN to as a student s indicator of eligibility to sit for the HSC: it has ... Show

creation of such a test based education system is expected to contribute to wider segregation of
underperforming and academically successful students, which may see HSC turnout numbers
plummet. NAPLAN results are grossly inadequate to elect students which are deemed below the

Stereotyping Culture
Recently, President Donald Trump signed the memorandum to approve the construction process for
the Dakota Access Pipeline that will travel to Iowa and connect to a pipeline in Illinois. Native
American tribes, and other Cherokee citizens who have disagreed were protesting on site in North

Arthur Dimmesdale in The Scarlet Letter Essay
The Scarlet LetterArthur Dimmesdale Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale, a main character in Nathaniel
Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter, proves to be a sinner against man, against God and most
importantly against himself because he has committed adultery with Hester Prynne, resulting in an
illegitimate child, Pearl. His sinning against himself, for which he ultimately paid the price of
death, proved to be more harmful and more destructive than this sin of the flesh, and his sin against
God. Socrates said, Knowthyself, and Shakespeare said, To thine own self be true. If Reverend

Dimmesdale portrays himself very ironically. He is a very well respected reverend and yet, has,
for the last 7 years, worked on preaching the word of God, especially while he urges the
congregation to confess openly to repent unto God. While, in reality, Dimmesdale is the one
whoneeds a clean conscious. He feels like he needs to confess not only to the town but also too
himself. Halfway through the novel
Dimmesdale has yet to reveal the truth, which, so far, has been devouring him, physically and
mentally. Since this good reverend is so spiritual, he cannot reveal his truths to the town so
simply. He is of the Puritan faith and being a follower of that, the sin of adultery is a very grand
sin. The whole town would look down on him as if he were a hypocrite. Which in fact, he is, but
his sin of adultery in that town would have been scoffed at just as Hester s has. The reverend is so
well liked by the townsfolk that
Hawthorne states, They fancied him the mouthpiece of Heaven s messages of wisdom, rebuke,
and love. In their eyes, the very ground on which he trod was sanctified. ( 139 ) How else can the
reverend live without revealing his identity? He has been doing it for seven years, and it must be
hard for him, mentally and physically. Mentally, his whole body shuts down because he cannot take
it anymore, even though he does not give in to confess yet. He has become emaciated because he

Allan Ball and directed by Sam Mendes in 1999 is a unique piece that demonstrates many
sociological themes throughout the development of the plot. The characters strive to portray

Lester he is living his life as a ritualist. He goes to work every day because that is what he is

Psychology And The Legal System. Paper 1. With Recent...
Psychology and the Legal System
Paper 1With recent legislative issues making the news, one topic that has received a great deal of
attention is that of indeterminate sentencing. This is the imposition of a sentence with no
mandatory release date or set period of sentence to be served. Instead, one s sentence length is
determined by the inmate s conduct while in prison. Upon successful completion of requirements
the inmate may be returned to society, but it is possible that they will be kept behind bars for the
remainder of his/her natural life. There are many issues that have come to light with indeterminate
and determinate sentencing, such as how successful was the inmate? Is there really rehabilitation

The problem with indeterminate sentencing is that it often puts too much power into the hands of
the parole board which then can lead to arbitrary and discriminatory results. It has been seen that
minorities and prisoners without connections receive overly harsh decisions of the parole boards
while less deserving offenders are being released early.(Portman, 2017) Even with some of the
issues at hand indeterminate sentencing is making a comeback. This is now happening even more
as our prisons are becoming overcrowded. In turn, allowing more room for judicial or parole board
discretion. Prosecutors are exercising discretion when they decide which of many arrests to charge
and for what particular crime. Juries exercise discretion in not convicting defendants who killed
under circumstances that may have justified their actions. A jury may opt to exercise discretion
when it deliberates the fate of the alleged perpetrator. Parole boards also have the opportunity to
excise discretion when they decide whether to commute a death sentence to life
imprisonment.(Greene, E., Heilbrun, K. 2014 pg. 10 11) This is being seen in many states where
rehabilitation is available and viewed as a reasonable attainable outcome for offenders.Determinate
sentencing began to spread widely during the 1970s and 1980s and is now the rule in many states.
(Portman, 2017) In the late 1970s, a rising crime rate, concern over individual rights, and a distrust

Essay on The Ontological Argument
The Ontological Argument
The Ontological argument is a group of different philosophers arguments for the existence of God.
Ontological literally means talking about being and so in this case, that being is the existence or
being of God. The main component of the Ontological argument can be found in the Anselms
Proslogion which is a short work that tries to demonstrate both the existence and the nature of God.
His main aim in writing the Proslogion is not to directly prove the existence of God but to
moreover, to show the relationship between faith and reason. Anselm wanted to understand the
object of the belief. He is also not trying to defend his belief against the atheist and neither is he
trying to convince the atheist that God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(b) Examine the responses of various scholars to this argument
Various philosophers did question Anselm s argument in favour of the existence of God.
One of these philosophers was Gaunilon, Anselm s contemporary who argued against Anselm s
first form of his argument. Gaunilon said that Anselm s sense and reasoning would bring about a
ridiculous conclusion if it was applied to any other field other than the existence of God. He
attempts to set up an argument which is parallel to Anselm s ontological argument by using the
example of a perfect island. Gaunilon using the idea of this perfect island came to the conclusion
that for it to be a perfect island, it must exist both in mind and reality. This conclusion is ridiculous.
Therefore, Anselm argued back at Guanilon by saying that that the most perfect island is part of
the contingent world so cannot endure the same reasoning as is used for the most perfect
conceivable being . This indicates that Anselm is justifying why his principle does not apply to the
perfect island example and he seems to be highlighting the importance of the idea of his second
form of the argument which is that of necessary existence He is stressing the point that God is
unique and that the reasoning of the ontological argument applies only to the most conceivable
perfect being which has necessary existence.
Descartes moderated the ontological argument and said that a supremely perfect being

Analysis Of Daniel Kahneman s The Surety Of Fools
Voltaire once said, Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is an absurd one. We live in a
world that is constantly changing and does not grant the certainty that people desire. But, people
want the stability of knowing what is going to happen; this is why certainty is absurd. In his essay
The Surety of Fools, Daniel Kahneman provides examples of people using a phenomenon he calls
the illusion of validity. These people strongly believe their actions cause a specific outcome, when
in reality there is statistical evidence that shows their actions have no direct correlation with the
outcome. While Kahneman argues the illusion of validity comes partially from people s tendency
to make quick decisions without fully conveying the causes, it really stems from people s fear of
uncertainty from having a lack of knowledge. Other fields of academia, such as science and
economics, have admitted that uncertainty grounds their thinking processes. Kahneman is
inaccurate in neglecting to mention that it is the fear of uncertainty that really causes the illusion
of validity. Kahneman argues that the illusion of validity comes from fast thinking because it is
prone to doubt. Meaning, people naturally think quickly because they need a reason and so they do
not have time to question their explanation. However, Kahneman neglects to mention that fast
thinking roots itself in the fear of uncertainty. Kahneman begins his essay by describing his
experience in evaluating

Key Features Of Image Enhancement
A.Image enhancement Image enhancement is the process of adjusting digital images so that
the results are more suitable for display or further image analysis. For example, you can remove
noise, sharpen, or brighten an image, making it easier to identify key features. Image
enhancement mainly includes some process: A.1 Convert a Colored Image into Gray Image
Every digital image mainly comprises of three components or it is made up of three colors that
is RGB (Red Green and Blue) and each image is represented in a 3 dimensional which is very
difficult to analysis and process. Therefore to overcome some difficulty initially each image is first
converted into a gray image which is made up of white and black components of varying intensity.

So on, it moves until the end of a column and calculate the total sum of differences between
adjacent pixels. At the end, an array containing the column wise sum is created. The same
process is carried out to find the vertical array. In this case, rows are processed instead of
columns. A.4 Filtering out Unwanted Regions in an Image Once the arrays are passed through
a low pass digital filter, a filter is applied so that to remove undesirable areas from an image
which includes the horizontal and vertical components of array with low values. Generally low
value indicates the plain areas with characters it is due to the fact that intensity of each
neighboring pixel of plain areas contains a similar intensity or pixel values such that during
horizontal and vertical processing the difference between them is negligible but in case of edges
and specially numeric characters the difference between adjacent pixel is high due to variation of
intensity, which results into a high array value for such part of an image. Therefore, the required
area of region of interest with probable number has a high values while areas with small value are
undesirable and such regions are filtered out by applying a certain threshold. In this algorithm, the
threshold is equal to the average value of an array. Both row and column vectors are passed through
a filter with this threshold, so that the final output

seven years after India gained independence from British colonial rule. Thus, it can be concluded
that the book is either took place during the Raj Period or shortly after gaining independence.
Rukmani, from a family of four daughters, was married off to a poor tenant farmer named Nathan

nation that was already involved in the war. Living in the home front was difficult and there

fronts was a very important part of all the efforts that went towards winning the war.
Governments became involved with new issues such as rationing, manpower allocation, home
defense, evacuation in the face of air raids, and response to occupation by an enemy power.
There were people who needed to help deal with all these major problems. Because so many men
were off fighting in the war, it was mostly up to the women to take care of all the work in the home

Should Geroge Have Killed Lennie
As people may know, George Milton is accused for the murder of Lennie smalls instantly killing
him in the back of his head. But George is innocent and there was a method to this behind all this
madness. First it must be understood that George had two decisions: To kill Lennie? Or let
Lennie live and take him to trial? Since Lennie was George s best friend whom he took care of
all the time because he was mentally disabled so, obviously George did not want to watch his
friend be tortured and killed in such an inhumane, harsh manner which explains why George

Wife Lennie has killed other things before such as a mouse that he found, and a puppy on the

sense to why George would have simply no other realistic choice but to kill him. Lastly, Lennie
would have been shot regardless. Curley wanted to shoot Lennie but if he were to have shot him

The Utilization Of Ancient Greek Values
The utilization of Ancient Greek values through the use of characters in Medea
Throughout the play Medea written Euripides, an assortment of unique characters are presented to

Ancient Greece. This is true to a certain degree but Euripides intended it to be more than their
standard social roles. Euripides utilizes characters such as the all women choir, King Creon, Medea

The Choir s disgust of King Creon is evident in the scene where he appeared to banish Medea
from Corinth, the First Woman said I have seen this man s arrogance, I watched and heard him. I
am of Corinth, and I say that Corinth is not well ruled. (Jeffers 12) Followed by the Second
Woman saying The city where even a foreigner, suffers unjustly the rods of power is not well
ruled. (Jeffers 12) The repeated phrase is not well ruled undoubtedly shows their displeasure
under his rule along with the Choir s constant criticism of him throughout their dialogue. The
women are also sympathetic towards Medea as would any other citizen would feel because of the
traumatic events that had just occurred to Medea. When judging Medea s actions, no one protest
more to her plots then the women, First Woman I think you ought to persuade Medea to come
from the dark dwelling, and speak with us, before her heart breaks. (Jeffers 6) The women are
attempting to persuade Medea from her dark thoughts but to little avail because Medea ultimately
commits her revenge. Despite the women s simplistic appearance in the play, Euripides exploits
their role to represent the vast number of ordinary Greek citizens and to counsel Medea on her
actions.
Another similar role the audience will recognize is the presence of a tyrannical ruler in the play,
this role is placed in the hands of King Creon, the ruler of Corinth. King Creon s

Robert Sternberg s Theory Of Love
Love in terms of a relationship can be described as an experience between two people sharing
mutual feelings, understandings and the enjoyment of being with one another. What love is varies
from person to person; Psychologist Robert Sternberg came up with the triangular theory of love
stating there are three main components for any loverelationships. Another psychologist Elaine
Hatfield suggests that there are two basic types of love for relationships. On the other hand, an
anthropologist Helen Fisher explains that love is a primarily a human mating motivational drive,
rather than an emotion (Fisher, H. 2004). With these three theories of love, this essay looks at the
different ways of how love can or cannot survive in a love relationship.... Show more content on

As long as at least either passion, intimacy or commitment is present, a certain type of love will
exist and survive. The similarities between Sternberg s theory to Hatfield s passionate
companionate love shows that to prolong a love relationship requires passion, intimacy and
commitment. As we get used to the relationship and we are not afraid our partner will leave us,
so we re not as focused on the craving as we once were. Hence, the triangular theory of love serves
as a good reminder to both short term and long term love relationships of what a good loving
relationship. While this model covers three very important core elements of a love relationship, it
does not cater other factors that might have an effect. For instance, people will experience
numerous changes throughout their life time, perhaps accidents can cause people to suffer from
brain damage which result the inability to love someone. Cultures can cause profound impact on
how people experience love, the triangular theory of love covers most types of relationship but
not all. The effect of cultural difference can be further discussed with examples. Be love simply a
human mating drive or emotional states, it still remain as a very complex matter that perhaps
words can t fully cover the entire spectrum of it. I believe that love on its own will always survive
as it is a natural part within us, however in the context of one particular love relationship, love can
only survive with mutual understandings and efforts for one

In recent years, the similarities between the main parties, Labour and the Conservatives, have
increased in comparison to the differences between them. Traditionally, the parties were dissimilar
in ideology and policy, however now they are much more similar, but differ in the way in which
they want to implement their policies. Also, whilst both parties are somewhat internally divided,
the Conservatives are more so than Labour in terms of the issue due to Brexit. Brexit continues to

Troy Turlowitzki Aka Tto Research Paper
Troy Tulowitzki aka Tulo As baseball season right around the corner some teams are in need of
offence and defense. People say the best way person to full these jobs is Troy Tulowitzki.
Experts call him the best shortstop of our time. But is he really? What is he worth? Should you
trade for him? Is Tulo really the best shortstop of our time? Let s take a close look at this
statement. In so far a ten year career, he has hit 232 doubles, 24 triples, 193 homeruns, with an
outstanding 674 runs batted in (RBIs). With an overall batting average with a pleasant .297.
Just shy of that perfect .300. Also he is a five time all star. Including 2 Gold Gloves and 2 Silver
Sluggers. Lastly Tulo as committed 74 errors in 10 years with an unassisted triple play only 8
others players have done that in this history of the MLB. Honus Wagner is the best shortstop
ever. In ten years of his career he has Wagner hit 348 doubles in his first ten years, he hit 125
triples, hit 49 home runs, Honus had 923 RBIs, with an above perfect batting average of .345
but a sad 326 errors. Wagner never saw an all star game and never won an award. Tulo is a bit
under Honus Wagner but it was a different game. When Wagner played games went 22 innings
and they always played because only 10 people were on a team. But Troy is way above Honus in
defense. Troy usually leads in fewest errors is a perennial Gold Glove winner. As you can tell Tulo
puts up good numbers and even is better than the best shortstop ever in most subjects.... Show more

Creatine Supplements
Protein Powders and Creatine:
Are they beneficial?
Anyone from ordinary people to fitness junkies to professional athletes and Olympians, can benefit
from protein powders and creatine supplements. According to Richard Kreider of the University of
Memphis, it is more than a supplement for athletes... it helps you maintain muscle mass and that has
long term health benefits . These supplements are meant to accommodate a healthy diet, not to be a
replacement for food. When used correctly, creatineand protein powders are beneficial for
everyone.
High quality protein supplements can be very beneficial for weight loss. When trying to lose
weight, it is essential to lose fat instead of muscle tissue. According to Lisa Leupp, adequate
protein is essential for maintaining lean muscle mass . If you are dieting and weight loss is
coming from muscle mass, you will have less energy and will not be able to perform as long. It has
been established that an average adult should take .36 grams of protein per pound of body weight.
If the diet is a reduced calorie diet, than even more protein should be consumed to maintain muscle
(Leupp). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Total Health also states that Whey protein contains all essential and non essential amino acids and
is an excellent source of glutamine and the branched chain amino acids that are necessary for new
cell growth (Leupp). In a past study, it was found that men with high cholesterol lowered their
numbers by taking creatine. Another more recent study showed that creatine supplements not only
help protect the heart muscle from damage, but it can also help post op patients exercise at a
greater intensity

Exploring The Mind Of A 1960s Teenage Boy
Paper II Draft III Exploring the Mind of a 1960s Teenage Boy A P (1961), written by John
Updike, explores the social conventions of the early 1960s and delves into the mind of a
teenage boy named Sammy. Over the decades, occurrences that are considered socially
acceptable have changed drastically. For example, in 2015, it is nearly commonplace to spy girls
walk into stores in just their bathing suits even in Thomasville, Georgia, despite the fact that the
town is two hours from the nearest beach. However, in the 1960s, the much more conservative
time in which the story A P is set, such an act was quite scandalous. The short story tells of one
summer day when three teenage girls wandered into a small town A P grocery store, wearing...

with a good tan (18)... He calls this girl simply Plaid because of her swimsuit. Next, he spies ...a
tall one, with black hair that hadn t quite frizzed right, and one of those sunburns right across
under the eyes, and a chin that was too long (19)... This girl he refers to as Big Tall Goony
Goony because not only was she tall, but she appeared to fit his prototype ( imagined appearance
yes, I m bringing psychology into my paper) a goon. Finally, Sammy spotted ...the third one, that
wasn t quite so tall. She was the queen. She kind of led them, the other two peeking around and
making their shoulders round (19). True to the way he described her, Sammy called this girl
Queenie because she appeared to be the leader of the group their queen. It was immediately
obvious that Sammy was drawn to this girl because while he briefly described the other two, he
spent a large amount of time throughout the story describing and assessing the character of
Queenie. Throughout the story, Sammy is quick to make inferences on the people s personalities,
including the girls. When Sammy first noticed the girls, he inferred that Queenie was the leader,
and ...you get the idea she had talked the other two into coming in here with her, and now she was

Ethos And Pathos In The Achievement Habit By Bernard Roth
Ethos, Logos, and Pathos If one was told they could fly without wings or on an airplane, would
they believe it? Or if they were promised they could walk on water, would they still try? Probably
not, correct? Knowing a person s creditability is key before you make the decision to put faith in
them or to trust them or not. In the novel The Achievement Habit written by Bernard Roth, while
still showing emotion towards his audience, Roth makes sure to have reliable credentials and logic
behind his reasoning. Roth has a passionate attitude and strong morals about what he preaches in
chapter two, Reasons are Bullshit that is reassuring and fitting to the reader. His communication is
established through personal relations and stories,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He knows everyone in life struggles. He simply is encouraging the reader to stop finding excuses
and continue improving themselves by stop handing out excuses and reasons. A wise man once
wrote You can t do anything about the length of your life, but you can do something about its
width and depth. Evan Esar. Justifications in life simply set one back from becoming great; which
is what Roth does a stellar job explaining it in this chapter. Roth s appeal of pathos initially rubs
the reader to be a little angrier, seeing that he believes that every reason is just an excuse. However,
it s the disciplinarian theory he is using to do two things. One, it wakes up the reader and grabs
their attention and two, to make the reader think and question the excuses or reasons they have
been dealing with in their personal life. Everyone needs a reason to do anything, but there s no logic
behind every reason. The reason behind going to the grocery store, is to buy food so one doesn
t starve in the middle of the week. The reason behind a person going to the hair salon is to feel
better about their personal image. The reason of going to the gas station is to fuel up a car with
gasoline. Roth agrees with reasons controlling everything by saying Our society loves reasons.
Perhaps the illusions that there is a single known reason for each thing we do is comforting. (Roth

Persuasive Speech About Fish
A child s first pet is a notable milestone of growing up. Some children get to adopt a dog or cat,
others a hamster or guinea pig, but one of the most common starter pets today is, of course, a
fish. Fish are seen as one of the easiest pets to own, and are good for those with little time or who
want little commitment to care. Unlike a time consuming and expensive puppy who will need
toys, a bed, a leash, food, vet care, house training, and more, all you need for a fishis a bowl, some
water, and food.. Right? Wrong.
Many of us have been through it. You go to a pet store and stare at the wall of rectangular tanks,
all packed full of different kinds of fish. You pick out a handful that catch your eye, maybe three or
four goldfish, and a tank that seems big enough for your new friends. After all, they grow to the
size of the tank anyway, right? You grab a small can of the flaky, not at all appetizing fish food,
and maybe some rocks and decorations for your new tank. You get everything home and your fish
acquainted, only to find that 3 weeks later they re all dead. It s a bummer, but not surprising, when
has anyone ever said goldfish have a long life expectancy anyway?
What many people do not know, though, is how wrong all of this is. Goldfish can live for up to
20 years, but they often die prematurely due to being kept in bowls or small tanks. It is
recommended that double tailed goldfish (the type suited for aquariums) still have 20 gallons of
water for each fish. This is

False News Bias Essay
Everyday, billions of people read websites, magazines, newspapers, or watch television segments
so they are informed on what is happening in the world. The news is something that so many
people rely on and check constantly. What people aren t aware of however, is that so much of
what they are being told is a lie. False newsis a growing and constant issue in today s society. Fake
news spreads rapidly, changing people s views on the world constantly. However, putting an end
to this media trend has proved to be a struggle. Fake news comes from countless places and spreads
at an alarmingly fast rate. Usually, false stories start as a hoax on a small scale website, blog, or
even social media post. A journalist from a slightly bigger news... Show more content on

Most of this has to do with the fact that fake news is biased. People like and share the
information that aligns or confirms their beliefs and disregard the information that does not.
According to a recent analysis, information can bring people together or drive them apart... Fake
news is divisive . On the other hand, real news brings the people who agree even closer and
persuades the ones who do not. With fake news ruining the flow of this common ground, people
have become more and more divided on certain topics (Donath). One important aspect of society
that has been completely bombarded with false information is the Presidential Election. In fact,
as election day got closer and closer, the most popular stories were derived from false
information (Obama). That is a big problem because as voters were trying to make an educated
decision on who to vote for, they were being told information that was not even true. Some
people say that fake news could have even altered the election results. But why are people
believing all this? In order for a piece of information to change someone s opinion on something,
they obviously have to truly believe and buy into that information. False news sources have been
working to develop ways to get people to think what they are saying is true. One way to do this is
by confusing the viewer just enough to not know what is true. Another way is by making their
sites look extremely professional and falsely crediting information to trustworthy places ( Fake
News and the Internet Shell Game ). Unfortunately, once fake news is produced and in the public,
it can change people s views on the

Rural Beggars In The Ballet Class By Edgar Degas
are going onto the field after the harvest and picking up the leftovers of corn. They are a type of
rural beggars in an old traditional way. At the distance grain stack are seen piled up and the
people who harvested them are bent over exhausted after harvesting all the crops. Large bundles
of grain are visible in the background. In the foreground the three women are seen working
almost in a solitary manner, collecting the leftovers to feed their families. On close observation
it is seen that they have a white cloth tied around their hips which looks a bit heavy indicating
they have been collecting these leftovers for a while. Yet this amount is very small compared to
the enormous harvest in the background. A man sitting on a horse can be seen in the background
which looks like he is supervising the work done by the harvesters. He pays no attention to these
three women at all. Even though these women are some kind of beggars they still appear strong
and well fed. The colour used on the women is contrasting to the background. They are bent and
hence and below the horizon line. Their bent over round shape somehow blends and adds a rhythm
to the piles of harvest in the background. Millet is trying to convey this harsh truth in a soft manner

Degas attended the opera and was fascinated by the ballet dancers. He was allowed backstage by
a friend. He studied every movement of the dancers, their body language, each pause and every
expression on their faces. In his painting the dancers are seen stretching and adjusting their outfits.
His fascination was more towards the rehearsal than the performance on stage. The dancers in his
painting are seen playing with their hair and ribbons giving little attention to their master. They
look exhausted in the painting. Even though this is the work of an impressionist a little bit of
perspective can be seen on observing the floor of the room in the

The Potential Causes And Possible Treatment Of Exercise...
The potential causes and possible treatment of exercise addiction
Unquestionably, physical activity complements the quality of life for an individual, while
exercising on a regular basis results in many benefits. Nevertheless despite the great benefit of
sport, many experts commonly agree that physical activity may be harmful. One of the
unfavourable areas within sport, which is frequently examined by researchers, is exercise addiction.
The predominance of exercise addiction is quite rare in reality, but when present conflicting
consequences can be calamitous (De Coverley Veale, 1987; Szabo, 2007).
Szabo (1998) proposed that those addicted to exercise will experience a more compelling
withdrawal than dedicated exercisers. A comprehensive manner to distinguish between both sets of
individuals may be through the actions and intentions for exercise of the individuals. Exercise
addiction between an athlete which is healthy and an exercise addict may be sharing very similar
levels of training; the difference is the mental approach and attitude taken by each individual. The
individual addicted to exercise is unable to see the real value in unnecessary exercise and is
resolute in pursuing his sport despite it being against his best interest.
The definition of exercise addiction is complemented by six common symptoms of exercise
addiction: mood modification, salience, withdrawal symptoms, relapse, tolerance and personal
conflict (Brown, 1993; Griffiths, 2005).

Purpose: To investigate the Law of Conservation of Mass using the reaction between vinegar
(acetic acid) and baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
Hypothesis: Open system:
If the reactants are mixed then the mass of the remaining products will be the same as before
because it will only overflow and will not have anywhere else to go.
Close system: If the reactants are mixed then the mass of the remaining products will change

A: Chemical reaction procedure 2: The evidence that a chemical reaction was occurring was there
was a bit of fizzing with the bubbles. The liquid and solid formed into a gas which also inflated the
balloon and you cannot reverse that.
3.Q: How did the final mass of the system compare with the initial mass of the system for each
procedure? Use the class data in Q1. Justify your results.
A: Procedure 1: The final mass and initial mass from procedure 1, the numbers were very close to
each other, and most of them had 0.3 0.5 g change in mass. These were all correct because
everyone used their equipment s properly and did not cause any human error sources. There was
one outlier incorporated in the data that I did not include but it had big change in mass because
maybe they did not follow the procedure properly.
Procedure 2: The final mass and initial mass from procedure 2, the initial mass and final mass
numbers were very close to each other, but as a class everyone had different results but they are a
few commons. This maybe because the wind or the electronic balance was not set at

How Is Harrison Bergeron Violated
The story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. explains that people are being forced to wear
handicaps to make everyone equal in every aspect. Also, a man called Harrison Bergeron was
sent to prison without a trial because the government believed that he was planning to overthrow
the government but later on he escapes. It also explains that Harrison goes to the TV studio
where a ballerina had given the news to the public and claims that he is the Emperor of
everyone. He soon told everyone that he was going to select an Empress and so, a ballerina stood
up and became his Empress. Harrison and the ballerina soon started to dance and kissed. As they
were dancing Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicap General, came in and shot both Harrison and

Another law that was violated was amendment VIII.(n.d., 1791) This law was violated when the
Handicap General used cruelty punishment which was death.(Vonnegut, 1961) These were some
laws that were violated.
To solve the problems in Harrison Bergeron I have proposed a new legislation. This new
legislation is explaining that law enforcement may not kill a person before going to trial to find
the person s correct and fair punishment. What this legislation is saying that no police officer,
sheriff, or etc. are allowed to kill a person before going to trial to find the accused person correct
punishment. There will be no exceptions in this law. This is the new legislation I have

  • 3. What Is The Relationship Between George And Ophelia Naylor... Gloria Naylor s Mama Day George and Ophelia grow up in significantly different environments with exposure to vastly dissimilar experiences; their diverse backgrounds have a profound impact on the way they interpret and react to situations as adults. George and Ophelia both grow up without their parents, but for different reasons. George grows up at the Wallace P. Andrews Shelterfor Boys in New York. The Shelter s strict surroundings did not provide the warm and inviting atmosphere that a mother strives for in a home. The employees at the Shelter are not loving people, (p. 23) but they are devoted to their job, and the boys. At a young age, Ophelia loses her mother. He has a successful life at the age of 31, and that just goes to prove that you got nothing from believing in crossed fingers, broken mirrors, spilled salt a twist in your gut in the middle of a Third Avenue coffee shop. (p.33) When people have a gut feeling like George has in the coffee shop, they usually try to do something about it; and when the same person they had that feeling about walks into their office 30 minutes later, they usually consider it an act of fate. But George isn t a man of those beliefs; in fact he almost forgets about Ophelia until the letter comes from her. Ophelia, on the other hand, believes in fate. Not to say she knew they were going to marry each other because they meet twice in one day, but she doesn t completely forget as George does. She grows up with magic and believes that you can feel and hear things if you choose to. George and Ophelia approach the interview process from different perspectives, as well. In her independent and determined manner, she left Willow Springs to venture off into the real world. The grades she makes in school and the fact that she survives the obstacles of life in New York City are due to her headstrong, independent attitude. The people of Willow Springs demonstrated ... Their strategies changed within the environment and circumstances, but what is overwhelmingly evident is that a team needs all the elements to be in synergy and for focus to be on every aspect of the strategy. As the old adage, A team is only as strong as its weakest link. This means that in order to be successful and to maintain success, you ve got to get all the elements right, the overall package, the budget, the designer, the engine, the drivers, the organisation and every aspect, from what is deemed most important to the least important, all play an essential part of sustaining a winning... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whilst all of these technological developments were taking place in the F1 arena, Ferrari chose to focus on it s long term strategy which focused on the development of the V6 turbocharged engine. This essentially meant that their drivers were now competing with cars that no longer held a competitive advantage, in fact the cars were now considered inferior. The fundamental flaw in this instance was that Ferrari had ignored the change in trends in the immediate environment and stuck to what they felt worked. The strategy was to exploits their strengths but neglected the opportunities that presented themselves. They had failed to respond to an immediate threat, thus exposing their weaknesses and allowing themselves to retrogress to the extent that Ferrari was no longer considered a threat. This was further compounded by the problems that were being experienced between Audetto and Laude, Ferrari s strength was derived somewhat from the relationship between Team Boss and Driver and with Audetto not being able to accomplish this, it impacted on the performance of the team. In addition, the heavy reliance on the driver, meant that the team was left at the mercy of it s driver, this was evident when Laude was unable to compete for six weeks, this allowed the competition to close in on the lead that Ferrari had established. • 7. My Papa Waltz Analysis In this poem My Papa Waltz by Theodore Roethke, the writer is describing a relationship between a father and son. The relationship is characterized by a form of dance which is waltzing. This dance was taught by the father to the son. Throughout the poem, the writer uses aggressive words such as death, knuckle, buckle, and beat letting it be known that this is not a pleasant poem. This poem is from the viewpoint of the innocent child that is why it is possible to see the truth in this poem. In the poem, the child is being hurt by his father. The writer tries to beautify a father hurting his child with a beautiful dance, the speaker does this to make the beaten readable so he used the waltzing metaphor. You would think this is a nice moment between a father and his child but instead, it is just a cover up of what s really going on in this home. He used the word beat in this line which refers to a musical beat but also physical assault comes to mind as well. You beat time on my head. They were, in fact, waltzing to music, but he was also getting beat in the process. The beaten is taken place directly in this scene which is being described by the son. By now the dance was becoming more physical. It is so much commotion going on with this dance that they re hitting things in the house, the father is not stopping because he is too drunk. It also reaches a large audience and specifically captures the attention of our hard to reach target (males 18 34). Although the Blue Crab is well established within its ecosystem it is highly sensitive to environmental and habitat changes ( Blue Crab, Maryland State Crustacean , 2016). The detrimental conditions of the Chesapeake Bay have affected the populations of Blue Crabs along with over harvesting. Life Cycle The life cycle of a Blue Crab involves Zoeae, Megalops, Juveniles, and Adulthood (Zinski, 2006) ( Blue Crab Life Cycle, 2016). Mating occurs only once for female crabs. Female crabs undergo a pubertal mold which is indicative of a sexually mature state in their life cycle. During the pubertal molt females release pheromones which attract males. The actual ritual of mating does not occur until females molt their shells (Zinski, 2006). At which point females will then retreat to high salinity water to begin spawning. Spawning will occur for the first time 2 9 months after mating. Interestingly, males will protect females during the period which females have molted and it is at this point in which mating occurs (Hill, 2004). As previously mentioned Blue Crabs are highly susceptible to changes in environmental conditions. As an example, larvae require high salinity waters. Larvae require salinity of at least 20 ppt and below that threshold, there is poor likelihood of survival ability. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Reform Movements of America American History Essay Prior to the Civil War, the United States experienced several different reform movements. These movements included the temperance movement, education movement, prison movements, women s rights movement, and the anti slavery movement. When glanced together, there may initially seem to be little connection between these various different movements. However, they were actually supported by a common theme, the liberation of the human spirit. This idea that all humans should be free provided the support for all of the different movements. The temperance movement was based on the idea that humanity should be free from its own vices. The education movement linked knowledge and freedom. The prison reform movement was not based on physical liberation, but on the idea that the spirit crushing punitive emphasis of old fashioned prisons would not create any possibility of change in the inmates. The women s rights movement was based upon the notion that women should not be treated as inferior to men because of gender. Finally, the anti slavery movement did not focus solely on the idea that slavery, as an institution, was inherently bad because it deprived people of their physical liberty without just cause, but also on how slavery was practiced in the antebellum South and the indignities that accompanied it. However, after going through an intimidating incident, my view on the world is forever changed. Being bullied helped me understand what some kids are going through everyday, and I have come to realize that bullying needs to come to an end. I never once believed I would be bullied; I expected every person I talked to, to treat me fairly. Moving to a new school and a new place changed the way I portrayed others. I came from a small town, with about 4,000 people, to a city with ten times more the population. The city was large and so was my new school. I was so scared of what was to come of my new school. My mother felt bad for me and introduced me to her friend s daughter, Jordan. Jordan is my age and she was going to the same school I was. We became friends before school started and made plans of doing homework and sitting together at lunch. I told her my worries of finding my classes and making friends. I even told her about the cute boy, who was now my next door neighbor, Kenny. Jordan and I quickly became friends and I was beginning to become confident on attending a new school. Little, did I know, that becoming her friend would change my perspective on life, forever. I eventually learned to choose my friends wisely on my first day of sophomore year. How Will You Measure Your Life The powerful motivator in our lives isn t money; it s the opportunity to learn, grow in responsibilities, contribute to others, and be recognized for achievements . Shall the Fundamentals Win by Harry Emerson Fosdick Perhaps the most powerful, fluent, and forceful paper promoting liberal Christianity is indeed Harry Emerson Fosdick s 1922 sermon Shall the Fundamentalists Win? . Fosdick seemed as if he was a very captivating human being in history during his time of existence. He wrote one of the most engaging papers that I have yet to read thus this far. It was definitely a wise decision to go ahead and read the two articles discussing fundamentalismto catch me up so that I did not have trouble keeping up with Fosdick s movement that he established in his sermon. Initially, I believe that the arising church is, amongst other things, is a rectifying of liberalismfor a postmodern age. And I m convinced that the same claims made by Fosdick in 1922 are just what we hear form emergents today. There is nothing new that lies under the sun today. It is only natural that the specifics argued for by the modernists are not those of the postmodern emergents. I m dumbfounded that Fosdick s opening strategy is to compare and contrast fundamentalist with the evangelical churches . Fortunately, Fosdick was writing during a time in period when liberals were actually pleased with living up to their name. He does however accidentally refer to liberalism within the body of his sermon but his opening comparison is between fundamentalist and the evangelical churches , even before he introduces the reader to liberal opinions . Upon successful completion of requirements the inmate may be returned to society, but it is possible that they will be kept behind bars for the remainder of his/her natural life. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem with indeterminate sentencing is that it often puts too much power into the hands of the parole board which then can lead to arbitrary and discriminatory results. It has been seen that minorities and prisoners without connections receive overly harsh decisions of the parole boards while less deserving offenders are being released early.(Portman, 2017) Even with some of the issues at hand indeterminate sentencing is making a comeback. This is now happening even more as our prisons are becoming overcrowded. In turn, allowing more room for judicial or parole board discretion. Prosecutors are exercising discretion when they decide which of many arrests to charge and for what particular crime. Juries exercise discretion in not convicting defendants who killed under circumstances that may have justified their actions. A jury may opt to exercise discretion when it deliberates the fate of the alleged perpetrator. Parole boards also have the opportunity to excise discretion when they decide whether to commute a death sentence to life imprisonment.(Greene, E., Heilbrun, K. 2014 pg. 10 11) This is being seen in many states where rehabilitation is available and viewed as a reasonable attainable outcome for offenders.Determinate sentencing began to spread widely during the 1970s and 1980s and is now the rule in many states. Ontological literally means talking about being and so in this case, that being is the existence or being of God. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (b) Examine the responses of various scholars to this argument Various philosophers did question Anselm s argument in favour of the existence of God. One of these philosophers was Gaunilon, Anselm s contemporary who argued against Anselm s first form of his argument. Gaunilon said that Anselm s sense and reasoning would bring about a ridiculous conclusion if it was applied to any other field other than the existence of God. He attempts to set up an argument which is parallel to Anselm s ontological argument by using the example of a perfect island. Gaunilon using the idea of this perfect island came to the conclusion that for it to be a perfect island, it must exist both in mind and reality. This conclusion is ridiculous. Therefore, Anselm argued back at Guanilon by saying that that the most perfect island is part of the contingent world so cannot endure the same reasoning as is used for the most perfect conceivable being . This indicates that Anselm is justifying why his principle does not apply to the perfect island example and he seems to be highlighting the importance of the idea of his second form of the argument which is that of necessary existence He is stressing the point that God is unique and that the reasoning of the ontological argument applies only to the most conceivable perfect being which has necessary existence. • 31. Analysis Of Daniel Kahneman s The Surety Of Fools Voltaire once said, Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is an absurd one. We live in a world that is constantly changing and does not grant the certainty that people desire. But, people want the stability of knowing what is going to happen; this is why certainty is absurd. In his essay The Surety of Fools, Daniel Kahneman provides examples of people using a phenomenon he calls the illusion of validity. These people strongly believe their actions cause a specific outcome, when in reality there is statistical evidence that shows their actions have no direct correlation with the outcome. While Kahneman argues the illusion of validity comes partially from people s tendency to make quick decisions without fully conveying the causes, it really stems from people s fear of uncertainty from having a lack of knowledge. Other fields of academia, such as science and economics, have admitted that uncertainty grounds their thinking processes. Kahneman is inaccurate in neglecting to mention that it is the fear of uncertainty that really causes the illusion of validity. Kahneman argues that the illusion of validity comes from fast thinking because it is prone to doubt. Meaning, people naturally think quickly because they need a reason and so they do not have time to question their explanation. (Jeffers 6) The women are attempting to persuade Medea from her dark thoughts but to little avail because Medea ultimately commits her revenge. Despite the women s simplistic appearance in the play, Euripides exploits their role to represent the vast number of ordinary Greek citizens and to counsel Medea on her actions. Another similar role the audience will recognize is the presence of a tyrannical ruler in the play, this role is placed in the hands of King Creon, the ruler of Corinth. King Creon s ... Robert Sternberg s Theory Of Love Love in terms of a relationship can be described as an experience between two people sharing mutual feelings, understandings and the enjoyment of being with one another. What love is varies from person to person; Psychologist Robert Sternberg came up with the triangular theory of love stating there are three main components for any loverelationships. Another psychologist Elaine Hatfield suggests that there are two basic types of love for relationships. On the other hand, an anthropologist Helen Fisher explains that love is a primarily a human mating motivational drive, rather than an emotion (Fisher, H. 2004). With these three theories of love, this essay looks at the different ways of how love can or cannot survive in a love relationship.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As long as at least either passion, intimacy or commitment is present, a certain type of love will exist and survive. The similarities between Sternberg s theory to Hatfield s passionate companionate love shows that to prolong a love relationship requires passion, intimacy and commitment. As we get used to the relationship and we are not afraid our partner will leave us, so we re not as focused on the craving as we once were. Hence, the triangular theory of love serves as a good reminder to both short term and long term love relationships of what a good loving relationship. While this model covers three very important core elements of a love relationship, it does not cater other factors that might have an effect. For instance, people will experience numerous changes throughout their life time, perhaps accidents can cause people to suffer from brain damage which result the inability to love someone. Cultures can cause profound impact on how people experience love, the triangular theory of love covers most types of relationship but not all. The effect of cultural difference can be further discussed with examples. Be love simply a human mating drive or emotional states, it still remain as a very complex matter that perhaps words can t fully cover the entire spectrum of it. I believe that love on its own will always survive as it is a natural part within us, however in the context of one particular love relationship, love can only survive with mutual understandings and efforts for one ... Starting out slow and building up more and more every week or so really helped me enjoy doing cardio. Mixing up your cardio routine is also a must when trying to build muscle and shred fat. People tend to think that more is better such as you need to run miles upon miles every day. In so far a ten year career, he has hit 232 doubles, 24 triples, 193 homeruns, with an outstanding 674 runs batted in (RBIs). With an overall batting average with a pleasant .297. Just shy of that perfect .300. Also he is a five time all star. Including 2 Gold Gloves and 2 Silver Sluggers. Lastly Tulo as committed 74 errors in 10 years with an unassisted triple play only 8 others players have done that in this history of the MLB. Honus Wagner is the best shortstop ever. In ten years of his career he has Wagner hit 348 doubles in his first ten years, he hit 125 triples, hit 49 home runs, Honus had 923 RBIs, with an above perfect batting average of .345 but a sad 326 errors. Wagner never saw an all star game and never won an award. Tulo is a bit under Honus Wagner but it was a different game. When Wagner played games went 22 innings and they always played because only 10 people were on a team. But Troy is way above Honus in defense. Exploring The Mind Of A 1960s Teenage Boy Paper II Draft III Exploring the Mind of a 1960s Teenage Boy A P (1961), written by John Updike, explores the social conventions of the early 1960s and delves into the mind of a teenage boy named Sammy. Over the decades, occurrences that are considered socially acceptable have changed drastically. For example, in 2015, it is nearly commonplace to spy girls walk into stores in just their bathing suits even in Thomasville, Georgia, despite the fact that the town is two hours from the nearest beach. However, in the 1960s, the much more conservative time in which the story A P is set, such an act was quite scandalous. Justifications in life simply set one back from becoming great; which is what Roth does a stellar job explaining it in this chapter. Roth s appeal of pathos initially rubs the reader to be a little angrier, seeing that he believes that every reason is just an excuse. However, it s the disciplinarian theory he is using to do two things. One, it wakes up the reader and grabs their attention and two, to make the reader think and question the excuses or reasons they have been dealing with in their personal life. Everyone needs a reason to do anything, but there s no logic behind every reason. The reason behind going to the grocery store, is to buy food so one doesn t starve in the middle of the week. The reason behind a person going to the hair salon is to feel better about their personal image. The reason of going to the gas station is to fuel up a car with gasoline. Roth agrees with reasons controlling everything by saying Our society loves reasons. Perhaps the illusions that there is a single known reason for each thing we do is comforting. (Roth 41.) ... • 45. Persuasive Speech About Fish A child s first pet is a notable milestone of growing up. Some children get to adopt a dog or cat, others a hamster or guinea pig, but one of the most common starter pets today is, of course, a fish. Fish are seen as one of the easiest pets to own, and are good for those with little time or who want little commitment to care. Unlike a time consuming and expensive puppy who will need toys, a bed, a leash, food, vet care, house training, and more, all you need for a fishis a bowl, some water, and food.. Right? Wrong. Many of us have been through it. You go to a pet store and stare at the wall of rectangular tanks, all packed full of different kinds of fish. You pick out a handful that catch your eye, maybe three or four goldfish, and a tank that seems big enough for your new friends. After all, they grow to the size of the tank anyway, right? You grab a small can of the flaky, not at all appetizing fish food, and maybe some rocks and decorations for your new tank. You get everything home and your fish acquainted, only to find that 3 weeks later they re all dead. It s a bummer, but not surprising, when has anyone ever said goldfish have a long life expectancy anyway? What many people do not know, though, is how wrong all of this is. Goldfish can live for up to 20 years, but they often die prematurely due to being kept in bowls or small tanks. It is recommended that double tailed goldfish (the type suited for aquariums) still have 20 gallons of water for each fish. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to a recent analysis, information can bring people together or drive them apart... Fake news is divisive . On the other hand, real news brings the people who agree even closer and persuades the ones who do not. With fake news ruining the flow of this common ground, people have become more and more divided on certain topics (Donath). One important aspect of society that has been completely bombarded with false information is the Presidential Election. In fact, as election day got closer and closer, the most popular stories were derived from false information (Obama). That is a big problem because as voters were trying to make an educated decision on who to vote for, they were being told information that was not even true. Some people say that fake news could have even altered the election results. But why are people believing all this? In order for a piece of information to change someone s opinion on something, they obviously have to truly believe and buy into that information. False news sources have been working to develop ways to get people to think what they are saying is true. One way to do this is by confusing the viewer just enough to not know what is true. Another way is by making their sites look extremely professional and falsely crediting information to trustworthy places ( Fake News and the Internet Shell Game ). • 48. The Potential Causes And Possible Treatment Of Exercise... The potential causes and possible treatment of exercise addiction Unquestionably, physical activity complements the quality of life for an individual, while exercising on a regular basis results in many benefits. Nevertheless despite the great benefit of sport, many experts commonly agree that physical activity may be harmful. One of the unfavourable areas within sport, which is frequently examined by researchers, is exercise addiction. The predominance of exercise addiction is quite rare in reality, but when present conflicting consequences can be calamitous (De Coverley Veale, 1987; Szabo, 2007). Szabo (1998) proposed that those addicted to exercise will experience a more compelling withdrawal than dedicated exercisers. A comprehensive manner to distinguish between both sets of individuals may be through the actions and intentions for exercise of the individuals. Exercise addiction between an athlete which is healthy and an exercise addict may be sharing very similar levels of training; the difference is the mental approach and attitude taken by each individual. The individual addicted to exercise is unable to see the real value in unnecessary exercise and is resolute in pursuing his sport despite it being against his best interest. The definition of exercise addiction is complemented by six common symptoms of exercise addiction: mood modification, salience, withdrawal symptoms, relapse, tolerance and personal conflict (Brown, 1993; Griffiths, 2005). ...
