Marilyn Monroe Theory Essay
Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe was all that we ever needed, an inspirational woman. Although she died over 50
years ago, she is still as much as a role model to what she was to young women in 1962.
When Marilyn was born
Marilyn was born on the 1st of June 1926. Her mother was Gladys Baker and her father was Martin
Edward Mortenson.
Marilyn s Death
Marilyn died on the 5th of August 1962. It was unsure about how she died. Because of that there are
three theories. The first theory is suicide. The cause of Marilyn s death was listed as a probable
suicide, but they never managed to find a suicide note. The second theory is Accidental drug
interaction. It is said that she had developed an addiction to Nembutal so she chose to let her doctor
wear her off the medication by switching to chloral hydrate but some people think that she secretly
continued taking Nembutal. The third theory is murder. It suggests that an individual or group
murdered her to keep her silence as when she met president John.F.Kennedy and his brother Robert
there were rumours of them both having affairs with Marilyn, so they payed someone to kill her so
they could keep their reputation and their careers.
When you think of Marilyn Monroe you might think of her enticing performance of Diamonds are a
girl s best friend from the movie Gentleman prefer blondes. For many women back then and
especially today she is much more than the dumb blondes she played in most of her movies. She was a
role model.
Her Family Life
The Marilyn we all know and love isn t really Marilyn Monroe. Her real name is Norma Jean
Mortenson. She was the girl who had been helplessly abandoned to a number of foster homes by her
mother and never even knew her father. Norma survived being smothered when she was 2 and when
she was 6 she was nearly raped. Later in her life she lived in an LA orphanage, where she earned 5
cents every month for her work in the kitchen. With that money she was forced to give 1 cent to the
nearby church every week.
Her Relationships
Out of the many relationships Marilyn had, her first marriage was with James Dougherty. She was
married to him from 1942 and then in 1946 they divorced. Her second marriage was with Joe
DiMaggio from 1954 to 1955. Her

Arctic Vs. Antarctica
Have you ever misapprehended the Arctic and Antarctica for the same thing? If you have, the mistake
is reasonable. They both have extremely cold temperatures and are just on opposite sides of the globe.
They have snow all year, and fantasies are made about igloos and eskimos. Although there are
similarities, there are two sides to the same coin.
Antarctica is a continent that is used for more of scientific study and holds 90% of earth s ice.
Antarctica is one big continent, meaning there are no other parts to Antarctica. Antarctica has even
reached the nice and breezy 128.6 degrees F. Henceforth, there are not many animals in Antarctica.
Both continents have extremely cold temperatures, and have two seasons instead of four. They have a

How Laura Kipnis Opposites Depicted In The Break-Up
The Break Up is categorized as a romantic comedy starring Jennifer Aniston, as Brooke Meyer, and
Vince Vaughn, as Gary Growboski. The film portrays what happens when individuals in a relationship
gets comfortable. Romantic comedies are typically funny with a happily ever after, but this movie was
more dramatic than funny. It gives us a glimpse of the actions taken at times to get the others attention.
The Break Up shows the heartache of what happens when people don t communicate, because
sometimes it is too late once the heart is so broken.
An escalation and Brooke asking, Why can t you do this one thing for me (The Break Up), leads to the
break up of the couple. In an essay from an excerpt in her book, Against Love: A Polemic, Laura

When people get comfortable in their relationship they tend to take advantage of the other. The
characters, Brooke and Gary, show a couple that fell into the slump of not truly talking and listening,
they quit showing interest in the others pursuits, and lost appreciation for each other. At the end of the
movie, Gary said, I m just saying we shouldn t wait so long the next time before we catch up, and
Brooke replied with, We have a lot more to talk about (The Break Up). Don t wait until the end to talk
to your significant other. Neither person realized how they got to this point in their relationship.
Brooke said, I just don t know how we got here. Our entire relationship, I have above and beyond for
you, for us. .........And I just don t feel like you appreciate any of it. I don t feel you appreciate me. All
I want is to know, is for you to show me you care (The Break Up). This suggests to viewers do not get
lazy on your relationship, remember to show one another appreciation for each other s time, and value
the fact they chose to be with you. Also, doing the crazy antics to get the other s attention is time
consuming and in the end often times is do not work. Brooke thought by breaking up with Gary he
would come to her apologizing and do the things she thinks he needs to do right, but it backfired on
her. Both characters tried to make each other jealous, which suggests to viewers it won t work and
could cause damage beyond

The World Of The European Union
Ava Dodge
Germany
Germany, now one of the most powerful states in the European Union, is most broadly defined as a
representative democracy. Citizens vote on the upper legislature, lower legislature, and state
representatives, known as the Bundestag, Bundesrat, and Länder respectively. The Bundestag goes on
to elect a leader or chancellor. This leader has less independent authority than the president of the
United States or the British Prime Minister, and is very dependent on parliamentary agreement to pass
laws. Thus, the German government would more specifically be labeled a parliamentary republic. A
parliamentary republic is a form of government in which the parliamentary legislature (elected by the
people) has more power than the head of state. Germany also has a federal style government,
consisting of the central government and sixteen separate states that share sovereignty of the region.
However, aside from the categories of education, internal policing, and local government, the federal
government carries a vast majority of the power. The individual states are represented at the national
level through the Bundesrat. The other legislative body, the Bundestag, is decided by a vote that
includes both district and party representatives. This is a combination of closed list proportional
representation and district representation. More specifically, each district gets a seat, and any
discrepancy in the percentage of district seats a party receives and the percentage of

Mother Tongue Literary Analysis
Mother Tongue by Amy Tan is an example of powerful family love that helps to overcome obstacles.
According to Reinhold Niebuhr, family life is too intimate to be preserved by the spirit of justice. It
can be sustained by a spirit of love which goes beyond justice. Therefore, a family is a large organism
that needs to be nourished and maintained. Mother Tongue is a sentimental and emotional story about
a great writer Amy Tan and her lovely mother who struggles from imperfect knowledge of the
language of the country in which she lives. Mother Tongue is one of the examples of a pure and honest
love in the family of immigrants, who tried to identify themselves in the new society and overcome
the language barrier. As a Chinese woman, Amy Tan, whose culture based on respect and veneration
of parents, supports and helps her mother on a long way to tide over her broken English. (Tan 119)
The connection between a daughter and a mother allows Amy to understand her mother s limited
language just by a heart. (Tan 119) Language is a very powerful and strong instrument, but the related
blood between the two main characters is capable to express everything without the words. Amy loved
her mother so much and did not want to hurt her feelings by calling her English broken or fractured ,
as if it were damaged and needed to be fixed, as if it lacked a certain wholeness and soundness . (Tan
119) Despite the global misunderstanding of society and her mother, Amy thinks that her mother s
language is vivid, direct full of observation and imagery. (Tan 119) It is her mother tongue and she is
ready to protect and support her in any situations. Almost every family of immigrants going through a
process of self identification in the new society and suffers from language limitation. Amy s mother
faced many problems because of her imperfect English. Amy said: when I was fifteen, she used to
have me call people on the phone to pretend I was she. (Tan 119) Like every normal person,
immigrant need to have a medical support, a bank account and a lot of simple vital things, to get
which becomes a big problem because of language limitation. The accident in the hospital showed

Baseball and Steroids
Confirmation/Argument Despite steroids having multiple negative effects on both athletes and the
game of baseball, they also have good effects too. The first positive effect that steroids provide would
be the fact that steroids help speed up recovery time. When a person is heavily stressed Cortisol is
produced to help the body and mind handle the stress. However, because cortisol is so strong; in the
process of trying to relieve stress it also damages muscle tissue and slows down the time it takes for
your body to recuperate. This is where steroids come in, Steroids help to reduce the production of
cortisol when your body is stressed. They can be used to help you recover from injuries or just to
allow you to exercise more (Swain, 2007, para. 1). In addition, steroids when taken correctly can be
used to treat medical conditions such as osteoporosis, anemia, arthritis, and even some forms of
cancer. Steroids increase the production of red blood cells, which successfully effects the treating of
anemia. They help increase bone density, so they are useful for patients suffering from osteoporosis.
Steroids are also used to treat blood disorders, arthritis, and some types of cancers (Swain, 2007, para.
1). Another positive attribute of steroids would be that they help to increase muscles and build strong
bones (Swain, 2007, para. 3). Steroids increase the amount of nitrogen in the body which allows for
the production of more protein in the body, which ultimately fuels the

The United Kingdom European Union Membership
On 23 June 2016, The United Kingdom European Union membership referendum took place in the
UK and Gibraltar. The result was decided by 33,577,342 eligible voters. 17,410,742 voters voted to
leave the European Union; 16,141,241 voters voted to remain in the European Union. On 24 June
2016, Jenny Watson, the Chief Counting Officer, announced the final result of the referendum leave.
This was a breaking news, and it caused a global attention. Countless information and news were
reporting by social media and networking. David William Donald Cameron, Prime Minister of the
United Kingdom issued a statement in 10 Downing Street that he will resign in October, and he would
continue to service to the British public in the coming weeks and month. He hopes that the new Prime
Minister leads the UK toward a right direction under the new situation. Meanwhile, the global
economy and international currency were affected by the referendum. Global stock markets were
falling down drastically and the British Pound did drop from $1.50 to $1.35, which was the lowest
value since the 1980s. Investors also lost heavily. For example, many financial analysts think that like
Warren Buffett and other successful investors probably lost billions of dollars on average after the
vote. In April 1975, there was a similar referendum held in the UK. At that time, 67.2 percent of voters
approved that the UK ought to stay in the European Union. After forty one years, the result is
different. The desire to

Light And Colour In The Starry Night
Light and Colour Vincent Van Gogh s Starry Night
The Starry Night is an oil on canvas painting by the Dutch post impressionist painter Vincent van
Gogh. Painted in June, 1889, it depicts the view (with the notable addition of an idealized village)
from the east facing window of his asylum room at Saint Rémy de Provence, just before sunrise. The
dominating colour palette in the painting is dark blue and black hues oppose the bright whites and the
yellows in the sky. The size of the painting is 29 in. by 36 ¼ in. The current location of the painting is
in the galleries of Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
The artist keeps his main focus of the canvas to be the night sky, keeping a part of it as a village,

He attempts to understand in great detail about the stars. As he wrote to his sister Willemien van Gogh
from Arles,
It often seems to me that the night is even more richly coloured than the day, coloured with the most
intense violets, blues and greens. If you look carefully, you ll see that some stars are lemony, others
have a pink, green, forget me not blue glow. And without labouring the point, it s clear to paint a starry
sky it s not nearly enough to put white spots on blue black. (678, 14 September 1888)
Van Gogh discovered new colours everywhere, especially at night. Peripatetically, this show explores
his special relationship with darkness. It provides a view of the tenderness, urgency and brilliance at
the core of his art, as well as the openness to nature that set it

The Tempest Power
In Shakespeare s play The Tempest, the usurpation of power is a big theme. Even the opening scene
introduces power struggles among the noblemen and sailors. We learn that the former Duke of Milan
Prospero s power was usurped by his brother, Antonio. Finally, Antonio advises Sebastian, the King of
Naples s brother, to follow suit. These complex power dynamics might be caused by a difference in
opinion. Everyone has their own vision of ideal government, and everyone is greedy for power; a
deadly combination. While there are many systems of government, I will be explaining the royal
adviser Gonzalo s system and how it compares to the Prospero s ruling when he held power. These
systems have much in common, but they also vary greatly. All forms ... Show more content on

Gonzalo explains that if he held power of the island, [he] would by contraries / Exècute all things.
(2.1.144 5) He knows that his system is contrary to how the majority of leaders rules. Since his
opinion is not popular, we immediately have reason to be skeptical of his ideas. He insists on a society
where Letters should not be known; riches, poverty, / And use of service, none. (2.1.147 8) By
eliminating class (riches and poverty) as well as education (letters), he hopes to create a free society
where citizens wouldn t need to worry about the impact of their actions, but only on their personal
fulfillment. All the better, in his opinion, that his subjects do not work, since the land would provide
everything they need: All things in common nature should produce / Without sweat or endeavor.
(2.1.156 7) Without any human effort, his natural order of government will collapse. His system is
similar to libertarianism because both of these systems seek to give the government a smaller role and
maximize individual choice. As in anarchism, everyone is free to do as they wish without the
establishment of an organized government or labor force. This idyllic commonwealth is a nice
thought, but there is a major hole in his logic. Antonio points out that [t]he latter end of his
commonwealth forgets the beginning. (2.1.154) Antonio means that Gonzalo s first proposition, that
he be the King on t, contradicts his last since very society he hopes to build would be run without
name of magistrate. Without a government, being the king is meaningless, especially since Gonzalo
believes the isle itself will bring forth / Of it ... all abundance. (2.1.159 60) (i.e. without the help of a
king.) Like Antonio, Alonso thinks that Gonzalo s utopia is nonsense: Prithee, no more; thou dost talk
nothing to me. (2.1.169) Alonso, King of Naples, has extensive

Goblin Market Is a More Effective Narrative Than The Lady of Shalott Christina Rossetti uses
narrative techniques and perspectives more effectively in her poem, Goblin Market than Alfred, Lord
Tennyson does in his ballad, The Lady of Shalott. A narrative is a text with a plot. Narratives are
important because they convey information and ideas to other individuals through a story. Important
narrative techniques include language, point of view, narration, speech (length of lines, rhyme), and
tense. Goblin Market uses simple vocabulary and lots of imagery, even from the very beginning of the
poem. Lines 5 30 describe the fruits that the Goblins sell in a way that appeals to the senses so that it

perspective in Goblin Market is that the narrator changes to a first person point of view from lines 160

from Laura s perspective permits an understanding of her frustrations and longings after tasting the

Different Cultures That We May Encounter As Therapists
Thus far in the course we have learned how important it is to have basic knowledge on various
cultures that we may encounter as therapists. According to Choudhuri, Santiago Rivera, Garrett
(2012), culture is defined as the personification of a worldview through learned and transmitted
beliefs, religious and spiritual traditions, psychological processes, values, and practices. Moreover, it
is a way of life that is shaped by ecological, historical, economic, and political factors on a specific
group of people (Choudhur et al., 2012). I have learned culture goes beyond just race and ethnicity.
Culture can be seen in the way people dress, the type of food they eat, the medicines they use, their
religious practices, the people they chose to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, there were only Spanish supermarkets, which are different than a Mexican market, which I
was interested to explore. From my understanding, in Philadelphia people of Spanish culture are
considered Dominican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, and other countries of Spanish decent. There are Puerto
Rican neighborhoods and Dominican neighborhoods but they all consider themselves part of the same
culture, which was interesting to me because in Texas, Mexicans were part of the Mexican culture and
Dominicans were a part of the Dominican culture.
Sources
In terms of sources, I happened to find two interesting articles exploring cultural components of a
Spanish supermarket. The first article I looked at was one that was a study of that what Spanish
consumers think about organic food. I choose this article because I was interested in exploring if
Spanish food can be healthy or organic. While I was in the market, I saw plenty of vegetables and
produce, but I was unsure if there were any organic products. The article explored the view of organic
food on the Spanish culture (Vega‐Zamora, Torres‐Ruiz, Murgado‐Armenteros, Parras‐Rosa, 2014). It
was viewed as higher value and more expensive product. Due to this view of organic food,
consumption is greatly impacted in the Spanish culture. Similar to the article above, I found another
article about Spanish culture and food,

Suicide In The Military
Mental health is an up and coming issue that is being brought to the attention of health care
professionals more and more each day. The United States military personnel are ones who often
experience mental health problems, like PTSD (Post traumatic Stress disorder) and MDD (Major
depressive disorder) due to being in the military. However, research has shown that the military health
system has been faulty at determining mental health issues within their healthcare system which has
led to increased suicide rates. The question is for active military or veterans, does early screening and

Oedipus The King Research Paper
Tragedies are events that cause great suffering, distress, and destruction, such as a serious accident,
crime or natural catastrophe. One example of a tragedy is Oedipus The King, written by Sophocles
around 441 B.C. Many events in this tragedy take place and cause the main character, Oedipus, to
reach his downfall. Oedipus intelligence, pursuit of truth, and hot temper all contribute to his
downfall. Oedipus intelligence is one thing that leads to his downfall. When Oedipus first came to
Thebes he had solved the riddle of the sphinx. Because of this, the Priest had come to him and asked
him to help them with the plague that has come to Thebes (39 43). The priest comes to Oedipus
saying, You freed us from the Shinx, you came to Thebes and cut us loose from the bloody tribute we
had paid that harsh, brutal singer (44 46). The village came to Oedipus because they felt that he could
help them. He had helped them before and he could help them again. If Oedipus did not defeat the
sphinx he would not have become king. They would not have found out that he killed King Laius
because they would still be hiding from the Sphinx. He would not have married his mother and the

Ring Of Roses Meaning
Ring of roses a poem and a game of children singing and dancing around in a circle. The famous
children s nursery rhyme Ring of Roses is believed to be based on the black bubonic plague that
struck Europe over the course of the 13th 16th century. In my opinion it makes sense when you
analyse and link each line of this nursery rhyme it can easily be interpreted to mean something relating
to the plague.
Over time the nursery rhyme has differed in verses. The lyrics changing depending on the cultures and
period in time it has been sung. As the poem has been passed down through the periods the
adaptations of modern language has effected it but overall the verses always seem to be of the same
meaning. There are typically two main verses to the poem but with many different versions of it.
Some of these versions only contain one verse. The version that I am analysing has two verses.
It begins with Ring a ring o roses . This line hypothetically refers to one of the first ... Show more

I believe this verse later came after the plague, druing the small pox epidemic hit. Small pox was a
deadly disease that held no limits and the symptoms were very similar to the plague. Eventually small
pox was controlled by a vaccine created by Edward Jenner in 1796. This vaccine was made of
cowpox. Edward Jenner developed the vaccine after he noticed that Milkmaids who had already had
cow pox did not catch small pox. Ironic, right? Cows in the meadow, cow pox. We all jump up could
mean we all avoid death thanks to the vaccine. Small pox striked from the 15th 18th century infecting
people during and very close to the bubonic plague time. This could have made it very easy for people
to confuse the first verse about the plague with small pox and then creating the second verse to be in
it. As the symptoms of small pox were very similar to the plague it s easy to confuse

The Beginning Of Civilizations On Education
The world we live in today is a very good example of a dystopia. Problems have riddled our societies
from race fighting, to bigotry, and even mocking people for choices about their bodies or genders.
There are many choices that have led to both the causes and the effects of what we live in now. Many
people are discussing how to turn our current situations around, this is how I will accomplish these
goals in my utopia. The beginning of civilizations starts on education, as future generations are taught
the ideals and beliefs of a society; this leads me to take the same exact step in implementing my
strategy. Basic education will be very similar to the current American system through high school.
Education will start with a strict adherence and following of my former credo. Continued education
through college will be payed for, but only for the most intelligent of the populace. The less intelligent
will be allowed to attend trade schools, or apprenticeships in any type of labor job. Outside learning
on one s own time is highly encouraged to continue to grow overall as a person, which also elevates a
person religiously. Not only for that reason but also to be able to get into college if they don t want to
have to go to technical school, or if they want to achieve a high position in the military. Fighting and
the establishment of militaries have been around pretty much as long as there have been disagreements
about different things. People are constantly fighting, which

Childhood Education And Special Education
What is my plan in life?
Vocation can be defined in many different ways depending on the context it is used in. In this case, the
dictionary defines vocation as a strong desire to spend your life doing a certain kind of work. Simply
put, it is the career path someone studies and decides to pursue throughout their life. I have chosen to
pursue Early Childhood Education and Special Education. I have discovered that my calling in life is
to be a Christian leader and serve others. I want to become a teacher to impact the lives of children
from all different backgrounds and generations. Be their role model and someone they can count on
100% of the time.
As a teacher, it is important to know how to apply literacy reading, writing, and speaking. These are
all important skills to have both in and out of the classroom. As a teacher, I will use all three to fulfill
my responsibilities. As an early childhood teacher, I will have to keep track of students progress. To
do this I will be required to compose evaluations and write ups for administration and parents eyes. It
would not be wise to have this document look like one of my students wrote it. The document will
have to look academic and formal, like a certified teacher wrote it. Writing is not all that I will have to
do, I will also have to know how to read. In the classroom, I will have an array of diverse learners
from all different cultures and backgrounds. Some of my students may know how to read, where
others may not. It

The Effects of Gender Bias on Elementary School Children...
The Effects of Gender Bias on Elementary School Children
It s a girl! or It s a boy! is typically the first thing parents hear after the birth of a child. This simple
statement of fact sets the groundwork for every interaction they will have with their daughter or son,
and for every experience that child will have throughout her or his life. Gender identity the private
experience of being female or male forms a core part of one s sense of self (Welker). The nature of this
private experience is enormously influenced by what we are taught it means to be a girl or a boy, and
these lessons are typically fraught with instances of gender bias what Beverly Stitt, author of Building
Gender Fairness in Schools, defines as a set of beliefs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In our society, males are the preferred sex. Mothers show a 2:1 preference for male children, and
fathers even more so (The Pinks and the Blues). Parents stereotype their child from birth: they think
that boys are more alert, more coordinated, stronger, bigger, and less attentive, while girls are softer,
weaker, and more attentive (Stockman). Research by Bloch at U. C. Berkeley revealed that parents
encourage differences in their children; with sons, parents emphasize achievement and value
independence and self reliance, while with daughters, parents emphasize proprieties and supervise
their daughters activities more than their sons (The Pinks and the Blues). I observed a videotape, titled
The Pinks and the Blues, of a family interview in which first the son and then the daughter were asked
to solve a puzzle with their parents present. With the son, Dad emphasized the cognitive aspects of the
task and checked for understanding, while Mom looked on. With the daughter, Dad emphasized the
affective relationship (the father daughter interaction) and stressed that the important thing was to
have fun, while Mom provided help to the point of interfering with the daughter s performance.
In addition to parents, the other primary agent influencing children at this age is the media, via
television. Little girls can watch Spiderman swing high

media, quoting a candidate, and posting an announcement for a candidate s rally or media appearance.
Although such tweets could have been representative of a positive leaning towards a candidate, we
focused our analysis only on the explicit, verbalized political expressions of the tweeters. All tweets

A hierarchical Bayesian model is developed in the inverse problem setup. The Bayesian approach
contains a natural mechanism for regularization in the form of a prior distribution, and a LASSO type
prior distribution is used to strongly induce sparseness. We propose a variational type algorithm by
minimizing the Kullback Leibler divergence between the true posterior distribution and a separable
approximation. The proposed method is illustrated on several two dimensional linear and nonlinear
inverse problems, e.g., Cauchy problem and permeability estimation problem. The proposed method
performs comparably with full Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) in terms of accuracy and is

Al Capone The Rich In The Great Gatsby
Money huggers, wealthy, rich, above everyone else in society; just words and phrases to describe a
man or woman or family with an immense amount of, well, money. Back in the fabulous time period
of the Roaring 20 s, a great number of people had that immense amount of money and held a fantastic
reputation of being wealthy. In F. Scott Fitzgerald s short story, The Diamond as Big as the Ritz,
Fitzgerald describes just a man with the wealth and power a diamond bigger than the Ritz Carleton
can give to one man and his family. Although many families were rich, but no one was this rich. Many
wealthy families came to their fortune in one of three ways: they married into an already wealthy
family, found an object of importance, then sold it for money, or they obtained their fortune illegally.
In the case of a young man by the name of Alphonse Gabriel Al Capone, who got his wealth and
riches in an extremely illegal manor. Born into a family of Italian immigrants and in the boroughs of
Brooklyn, Al was a Five Points Gang member and as a part of this gang, this is how Capone came
about to all of his money. (W p.3) When Alphonse began his career, he started off in several smaller
gangs, getting a feel for what it s like to always have to worry about if he is going to get whacked or
not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

sale, production, importation, and transportation of alcohol illegal. (W2 p. 1) And just like diamonds,
alcohol became an object of high demand. Young Mr. Washington, Percy s father, inherited his wealth,

Jacob And Rebekah Research Paper
Jacob (born around 2000 BCE) was the grandson of Abraham, the son of Isaac and Rebekah and twin
brother to Esau. Their family lived in Canaan, later called Israel, between modern day Egypt and
Syria. Jacob shepherded his father s sheep and worked in the kitchen, before later working for his
uncle Laban as shepherd and manager of his affairs. He married both his cousins, first Leah then
Rachel and had twelve sons. Jacob died at a very old age in Egypt.
Isaac asked his first born Esau to hunt for a delicious meal for him, after which he would give him a
special blessing which passes the promises of God (which had first been given to Abraham) from
father to eldest son. However, Jacob disguised himself as Esau and made Isaac a delicious meal, and
Isaac gave him the blessing instead. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

twelve sons who later became forefathers of the twelve tribes of Israel. Jacob wanted to reunite with
his family so he sent Esau a message asking for a kind welcome home, however Esau is heading

Registered Nurses
Introduction In this era of globalization, medical profession has become an important profession.
People have become aware of their medical rights. With this, the burden of hospitals and nurses have
increased. A number of research has been done on the conditions of nurses in hospitals. One of the
issues for hospitals is to keep the motivation level of nurses high. It has been observed that the
attrition rate of nurses has been high. This paper would discuss a research on these issues. The
research is a qualitative research that was conducted by Carol Isaac MacKusick and Ptlene Minick in

important factors for which nurses leave their job. The Hospitals are not able to create a friendly

The Massachusetts Model Of Healthcare Reform
THE MASSACHUSETTS MODEL OF HEALTHCARE REFORM
The Massachusetts model is considered by many to be the blueprint for the national health care
reform. It was introduced in the year 2006 and was fully implemented by 2010. The state previously
had a free care pool through which it funded the health care given to people who were uninsured and
ineligible for Medicare, Medicaid and private health insurance. The then federal government insisted
that either the state reduced this funding or it lost $385 million in Medicare funds (Lizza, 2011, June
6). The uninsured population in the state at that time was 10.9%, which was much less than the
national average of 15.8% (Day Nardin, 2011) making the state relatively more suitable for any health

Those with incomes between 150% and 300% paid a sliding scale premium and co payments. The
state also created a Commonwealth Care program providing subsidized private health insurance to
individuals with incomes less than 300% of poverty level and not eligible for Medicaid. This program
excluded illegal immigrants, immigrants in U.S. for less than 5 years and employees who declined
employer sponsored coverage.
EMPLOYER SPONSORED INSURANCE: Any employer with more than 10 employees was required
to provide them with health insurance and also to contribute a reasonable sum towards their costs or
he had to pay a penalty of up to $295 per employee annually. The revenue generated through this
would be used to cover costs of reform
INSURANCE EXCHANGE: They created an independent, easy to understand health insurance
exchange, called the Commonwealth Health Insurance Connector Authority. It provided citizens with
different insurance options and helped them make the appropriate choices. This agency also managed
the Commonwealth Care and the Commonwealth Choice programs. The Commonwealth Care offered
subsidized insurance to people earning less than 300% of poverty level while the Commonwealth
Choice offered unsubsidized insurance to people earning more than 300% of the FPL. This made
purchasing insurance plans simple and accessible.

I ve recently been doing training for work and used the training conference for my assessment. During
the training session, it was very apparent when the trainer answered a question in an irrelevant manner
and although she spoke in an upbeat manner, her responses could sometimes sound impersonal and
ambiguous. Since she spoke in the same friendly tone throughout, it was very hard to read her actual
feelings during it. I found that when I needed to ask a question, I would wait and see if someone else

has enacted certain laws that affect the corporation s activities and the insurance industry in general.
The regulation affects competition among the health insurance companies, and the insurance industry

Among the five forces of competition; existing competitive rivalry between suppliers, threat of new
market entrants, bargaining power of buyers, power of suppliers and threat of substitute products, the
most significant for UnitedHealth Group are threats for substitute products and rivalry among
competing firms. Given the fact that there are numerous healthcare insurance firms in the world; there

A Self Care Plan to Prevent Compassion Fatigue
A Plan For Self Care Against Compassion Fatigue
Brian Murrison
University of Kansas
Introduction
Working in the helping field has its many joys and privileges. Seeing a child, whose self esteem is at
the bottom, light up when he/she accomplishes a new task, see the growth an alcohol and drug addict
has made in treatment, or to see the family, that when they entered the door of your office, was on the
verge of separation, but now are communicating and working out their own needs with little assistance
from you, their therapist, is some of the most rewarding moments one can experience. However, to

overcome will not have an impact on you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another preventative step for the social worker is to seek out individual therapy for himself as a
manner in which to deal with the stressors associated with the helping profession. This has been
highly recommended by several instructors during my masters level education.
When I consider the risk factors discussed, I find that my weight and overall physical health are most
significant in placing me at risk of compassion fatigue. Failing to have a nutritious diet has caused an
increase in weight and multiple lower level health needs such as back pains and headaches. When you
factor this in with the stress of working a full time job and being a full time student, it compounds the
problem as eating tends to be my coping mechanism of choice. I also have minimal intimate
friendships due to lack of time to engage with others outside the workplace. A lack of these intimate
relationships fails to provide me an outlet to the stress that is outside my family. Given the source of
the stress is at work, confidentiality limits what I can and cannot say to my wife.
With those risk factors, two protective factors that I see benefiting me is my spiritual support system
and sense of strong professional boundaries. My faith has pulled me through so much. Having a solid
foundation in my faith has allowed me to always return to what it is that I believe and remember that it
is my relationship with

Essay on An Inside Look at Moral Panics
Moral Panics Opinions on personal and social matters are evergrowing and can be found in all forms
of media. Themes of sex and their regulation from all forms of figures and institutions influence the
public s perceptions of normality. The controversies of society that result in a heightened reaction
from the public is a moral panic. Reactions that result in these mass panics can be initiated by simple
facts about a certain taboo, and as generations change, so do the norms of that society, creating a flux
of opinions that can generate violent reactions. Judith Levine, the controversial author of Harmful to
Minors believed there was an argument against the public addressing the sexual habits of minors as
corrupt. One of many moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The merging of magical deeds with the idea that women were consorting with the devil made the
moral panic intense, increasing puritan panic. Because two taboos had become intertwined, the town
of Massachusetts became engrossed in the topic of witches. While men were also the victims, women
were the center of the burnings, and were usually seen as outcasts that exposed an area or town to a
negative reputation. This is highly sexist, as women had few lifestyle options, and if they deviated
from what was expected, they were at risk of being accused of witchcraft. Weeding out unpleasant
townsfolk was a major criteria for trials. In this period, women generally belonged to a father until
married. Outcasts usually defined women who were homeless and not married. This meant women
were dependent on men, working to please a male dominated society where their lives were strictly
controlled. Those who were raped were at fault for their victimization. Women in this age were solely
housewives, without an education and held no power or land. Perhaps the few freedoms females
enjoyed that were not advised by fellow colonial women were view with jealous eyes, and punished
by the resentful. Another interesting and ironic fact that the actual term witch hunts became used
metaphorically to describe moral panics in general. Even though the thought is sickening to modern
readers, the process of burning the accused was a legal act until 1750.

Bombardier Inc. is Canada based manufacturer of air and ground mobility solutions. Firm s
operational activity can be split into 4 units: Bombardier Transportation (BT), Bombardier
Aerostructures and Engineering Services (BAES), Bombardier Commercial Aircraft (BCA) and
Bombardier Business Aircraft (BBA). Firm s 2014 performance has been weak, the firm reported
USD 1,260 million net losses. However, it is important to note that the firm s recent troubles are
mainly associated with firm s aerial divisions rather than Bombardier Transportation. It is fair to say
that Bombardier s current vulnerable position was caused by firm s undue attention to its CSeries jets,
designed to compete with Boing s and Airbus s smaller commercial jets. Constant delays and cost

Mursi Woman
1) The Mursi woman talks about what she thinks is beautiful, which among other things involves
removing her eyelashes and undergoing other facial modifications. Many Europeans and North
Americans would not necessarily find these things beautiful. How do you explain those differences in
perspective?
The difference in perspective can be explained by how the people grew up. Growing up in America,
young girls have seen their moms and other women in their life wearing makeup such as eyeshadow
and mascara to bring out their eyes. Consequently, the girls believe that they will be beautiful if they
wear eyeshadow and mascara also. Likewise, few people in America wear facial piercings and
ornaments like the ones seen in the video. Consequently, people in America do not wear them as it is
not seen as normal to do so. Simply, the differences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Do you think the Mursi show the Europeans their authentic culture?
Since the people in this village dress just for show when the tourists come, they likely enjoy having
the tourists around. The woman is clear when she says she doesn t care if what she wears is not
customary, they simply want to please the tourists so that they will take photos. They are likely as
fascinated with the tourists as the tourists are with them.
The Mursi woman and her village are not completely showing the tourists their authentic culture as
the woman makes it evident that they dress in an almost completely different way when the tourists
come. However, they in part are still showing the visitors their culture as they cannot change things
such as how their homes are built and what they do for work simply because people are coming to
visit. Part of their culture must shine through no matter how hard they

The Novel Three Brothers Struggle Against The Outdated...
All through time, consecutive generations have rebelled against the values and traditions of their
elders. In all countries, including China, novel generations have required to find a different conduit
than that of their previous leaders. Conventional values become obsolete and are replace with what the
younger society deems as noteworthy. Family concentrates on this very subject. In the novel, three
brothers struggle against the outdated Confucian values of their elders. Alike in their dislike of the
traditional Confucian system of their grandfather, yet very different in their interactions with him and
others, begin to reach beyond the ancient values of Confucianism and strive for a breath of freedom.
Their struggles against the old values lead to pain, suffering and eventually achievement for the three
of them, however at a harsh price for two brothers.
The story of the first brother, Chueh hsin, is unquestionably the most upsetting and saddest in this
novel. Cheuh hsin has lived his entire life in reverence and constant conformity with his elders.
Although he is an enlightened person and does not unconditionally agree with many of the Confucian
values, which he follows, he feels that his position in the social hierarchy of the family leaves him no

Beethoven Biography Essay
Many questions go around about what day Ludwig Van Beethoven was born. Most do not know and
most likely will not ever know. They say that he was born a day or two before he was baptized on
December 17th, 1770. That was the beginning of one of the greatest musicians alive. Ludwig had two
younger brothers that had survived into adulthood. One was named Casper and the other was named
after their father Johann. His mother was a woman who stuck to her morals and his father was a man
who was a court singer, but he was more known for being an alcoholic than a musician. This is one of
the reasons Beethoven was closer with his mother rather than his father. Also, Beethoven s grandfather
was a well known musician which was a source of endless pride ... Show more content on

His father, Johann, taught him how to play instruments day in and day out. When March 28th 1778
rolled around, Beethoven performed for the first time in front of a crowd in Cologne. At that time
Beethoven was seven and a half years old, but his father said he was six years old. This always made
Beethoven think he was younger than he actually was. Beethoven s father could only teach him so
much, though, so he went to go be taught by a professional musician named Gottlob Neefe. Neefe
noticed how talented Beethoven was, so he decided to not only teach him about music but about the
works of philosophers as well. As Beethoven grew, he created pieces of music that became very
popular. His first piece, published before the age of twelve, was Nine Variations of C Minor. After that
piece came out, his teacher wrote in a magazine article about him saying he s to be, The next Mozart if
he keeps his work up. Prince Maximillian Franz, who was the prince of Austria at the time, knew
about Beethoven s music and decided to send him to Vienna to go meet Mozart in 1787 so he could

not forget his name! It will be spoken often! . Sadly, whilst Beethoven was in Vienna, he received a

Promotional Strategies Essay
How do I get my product/service out there? This is a question that many people who plan to begin
their own businesses, or even larger companies who have already established a name for themselves,
frequently ask. Your product or service may be the latest and greatest on the market today, but that
doesn t help you if no one knows it exists. You need to find someway to make yourself and your
product known.
That is where promotion comes into play. But what exactly is promotion? Well, www.dictionary.com
defines promotion as:
The act of promoting or the fact of being promoted; advancement.
Encouragement of the progress, growth, or acceptance of something; furtherance.
Advertising; publicity.
Essentially this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specialty advertising, etc.
So knowing this lets take a look at some media promotions.
My first example comes from 1986. The Atari had its day in the sun and had been retired to that big
cardboard box in the closet to make room for the new generation of video gaming system, the
Nintendo Entertainment System (N.E.S. Or Super Famicom, as it was called in Japan, which my first
example will show). Until now game consoles only offered little men made of black and white squares
running across a background also made of black and white squares. The N.E.S. offered so much more.
It gave you little men made of blocks running across backgrounds also made of blocks, but this time
with 8 bit color!
Of course a system is only as good as its games. That is where my example one comes in. This is a
Japaneses promotional commercial for The Legend of Zelda game1. This game is Nintendo s love
child. It allowed them to climb into the game market and remain there for more than 20 years.
See, to attract people s attention you need to exploit popular trends. Back in the 1980 dance music was
becoming very popular, what with the introduction of artists line Inxs and Cyndi Lauper. So Nintendo
made a bold move, hired a bunch of dancers, and turned the commercial into a music video.

Carbon Dioxide And Its Effect On Earth s World
In today s atmosphere, carbon dioxide (CO2) amounts to 400 parts per million (ppm), but it hasn t
always been that high, or low, depending on what we are comparing it to. It is a trace gas that is vital
to Earth s atmosphere and has been around since the creation of Earth s first atmosphere, which
occurred shortly after the planet s creation. The advent of Earth s second atmosphere happened when
lighter gases such as hydrogen escaped into space or were bound to molecules, leaving gases like
nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and other gases that were the product of volcanism to make up the majority
of the atmosphere. This volcanic activity was fueled by gases that came to Earth following the late
heavy bombardment of huge asteroids . Following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leading up to the present, levels of CO2 have fluctuated due to geochemical processes such
suspension of the gas in sediment, silicate rock weathering, and volcanism. Also, human activity plays
a large part in carbon deposition into the atmosphere predominantly through the burning of fossil fuels
and the cultivation of livestock. On a drastically larger time scale the carbon cycle is ever so slightly
reducing atmospheric CO2 , which will ultimately bring the concentration down near zero, causing all
life on the planet to be wiped out. The carbon cycle, including both terrestrial and aquatic processes, is
the foundation under which photosynthesis is possible. Aside from the carbon cycle, CO2 is a key
element in many other natural processes and phenomena such as the Greenhouse Effect and Global
Warming . After the advent of the second atmosphere, the atmosphere had ~100 times as much gas as
the current atmosphere , which contained a large amount of CO2 which is believed to have kept the
Earth from freezing over. Over the next few billion years the water vapor condensed to form oceans
and rain that started to absorb CO2. Eventually 50% of the carbon in the atmosphere would end up
suspended in the ocean. This caused ocean acidification, which is the decrease in the pH level of the
ocean. Plate tectonics played a large role in the gradual evolution of the atmosphere by transferring
carbon dioxide to and from large

Air Canada s Business Strategy Essay
Over the years Air Canada s business strategy has changed and has been reconstructed a number of
times. Air Canada s mission has always remained the same, connecting Canada and world (Air
Canada, 2016), but their visions and goals, have transformed.
Air Canada s early strategy was to grow the business, with minimal concern about their staff members
and customers. Without any benefits or rewards their staff felt underappreciated. Their customers felt
as though their feedback wasn t being heard but in the eyes of Air Canada as long as their business
was expanding, they were satisfied.
This was evident with the purchase of Canadian Airlines, in 1999 (The National, 2003). With the
purchase of this airline, Air Canada also inherited their estimated eight billion dollar debt (The

This week I will present by discussing and differentiating the main categories of a SOCF (Operations,
Investment, and Financing.) this discussion and differentiation is going to be supported by an example

SOCF. The statement of cash flows was applied by the FASB in 1987 to allow the managers to know
more about cash flows information. Because the income statement and the balance sheet are based on
the accrual biases. So, this statement is based on the cash biases; and it illustrates all the inflows and
the outflows of the cash during the period of reporting; and its main purpose to show the causes of the
change in cash from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In short, the part of the operating activities will not include any of the cash activities balances related
to Investing activities or financing activities.
Investing activities
Investing activities is the second part of the SOCF that illustrates all the cash in and out that was used
in the period of the report to make investments by using the money of the company.
That means Investing activities will include the cash activities balances that are related to the
noncurrent assets such as , long term investments, equipment, and loans to others (Heisinger Hoyle,
(2012)).
Financing activities
Financing activities is the third part of the SOCF that illustrates all the cash in and out that was used in
the period of the report and related to the noncurrent liabilities and owners equity. Kimball, (2016,
October 26) adds that financing activities include purchases of bonds and stock as well as dividend
payments. Some of the applicable ledger accounts include your capital equipment and paid in capital
accounts, notes and bonds payable, stock and retained earnings (para.4).
The differences between the three categories is as explained in the table below: operating activities

  • 2. Marilyn Monroe Theory Essay Marilyn Monroe Marilyn Monroe was all that we ever needed, an inspirational woman. Although she died over 50 years ago, she is still as much as a role model to what she was to young women in 1962. When Marilyn was born Marilyn was born on the 1st of June 1926. Her mother was Gladys Baker and her father was Martin Edward Mortenson. Marilyn s Death Marilyn died on the 5th of August 1962. It was unsure about how she died. Because of that there are three theories. The first theory is suicide. The cause of Marilyn s death was listed as a probable suicide, but they never managed to find a suicide note. The second theory is Accidental drug interaction. It is said that she had developed an addiction to Nembutal so she chose to let her doctor wear her off the medication by switching to chloral hydrate but some people think that she secretly continued taking Nembutal. The third theory is murder. It suggests that an individual or group murdered her to keep her silence as when she met president John.F.Kennedy and his brother Robert there were rumours of them both having affairs with Marilyn, so they payed someone to kill her so they could keep their reputation and their careers. When you think of Marilyn Monroe you might think of her enticing performance of Diamonds are a girl s best friend from the movie Gentleman prefer blondes. For many women back then and especially today she is much more than the dumb blondes she played in most of her movies. She was a role model. Her Family Life The Marilyn we all know and love isn t really Marilyn Monroe. Her real name is Norma Jean Mortenson. She was the girl who had been helplessly abandoned to a number of foster homes by her mother and never even knew her father. Norma survived being smothered when she was 2 and when she was 6 she was nearly raped. Later in her life she lived in an LA orphanage, where she earned 5 cents every month for her work in the kitchen. With that money she was forced to give 1 cent to the nearby church every week. Her Relationships Out of the many relationships Marilyn had, her first marriage was with James Dougherty. She was married to him from 1942 and then in 1946 they divorced. Her second marriage was with Joe DiMaggio from 1954 to 1955. Her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Arctic Vs. Antarctica Have you ever misapprehended the Arctic and Antarctica for the same thing? If you have, the mistake is reasonable. They both have extremely cold temperatures and are just on opposite sides of the globe. They have snow all year, and fantasies are made about igloos and eskimos. Although there are similarities, there are two sides to the same coin. Antarctica is a continent that is used for more of scientific study and holds 90% of earth s ice. Antarctica is one big continent, meaning there are no other parts to Antarctica. Antarctica has even reached the nice and breezy 128.6 degrees F. Henceforth, there are not many animals in Antarctica. Both continents have extremely cold temperatures, and have two seasons instead of four. They have a summer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Laura Kipnis Opposites Depicted In The Break-Up The Break Up is categorized as a romantic comedy starring Jennifer Aniston, as Brooke Meyer, and Vince Vaughn, as Gary Growboski. The film portrays what happens when individuals in a relationship gets comfortable. Romantic comedies are typically funny with a happily ever after, but this movie was more dramatic than funny. It gives us a glimpse of the actions taken at times to get the others attention. The Break Up shows the heartache of what happens when people don t communicate, because sometimes it is too late once the heart is so broken. An escalation and Brooke asking, Why can t you do this one thing for me (The Break Up), leads to the break up of the couple. In an essay from an excerpt in her book, Against Love: A Polemic, Laura Kipnis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When people get comfortable in their relationship they tend to take advantage of the other. The characters, Brooke and Gary, show a couple that fell into the slump of not truly talking and listening, they quit showing interest in the others pursuits, and lost appreciation for each other. At the end of the movie, Gary said, I m just saying we shouldn t wait so long the next time before we catch up, and Brooke replied with, We have a lot more to talk about (The Break Up). Don t wait until the end to talk to your significant other. Neither person realized how they got to this point in their relationship. Brooke said, I just don t know how we got here. Our entire relationship, I have above and beyond for you, for us. .........And I just don t feel like you appreciate any of it. I don t feel you appreciate me. All I want is to know, is for you to show me you care (The Break Up). This suggests to viewers do not get lazy on your relationship, remember to show one another appreciation for each other s time, and value the fact they chose to be with you. Also, doing the crazy antics to get the other s attention is time consuming and in the end often times is do not work. Brooke thought by breaking up with Gary he would come to her apologizing and do the things she thinks he needs to do right, but it backfired on her. • 5. The World Of The European Union Ava Dodge Germany Germany, now one of the most powerful states in the European Union, is most broadly defined as a representative democracy. Citizens vote on the upper legislature, lower legislature, and state representatives, known as the Bundestag, Bundesrat, and Länder respectively. The Bundestag goes on to elect a leader or chancellor. This leader has less independent authority than the president of the United States or the British Prime Minister, and is very dependent on parliamentary agreement to pass laws. Thus, the German government would more specifically be labeled a parliamentary republic. A parliamentary republic is a form of government in which the parliamentary legislature (elected by the people) has more power than the head of state. Germany also has a federal style government, consisting of the central government and sixteen separate states that share sovereignty of the region. However, aside from the categories of education, internal policing, and local government, the federal government carries a vast majority of the power. The individual states are represented at the national level through the Bundesrat. The other legislative body, the Bundestag, is decided by a vote that includes both district and party representatives. This is a combination of closed list proportional representation and district representation. More specifically, each district gets a seat, and any discrepancy in the percentage of district seats a party receives and the percentage of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Mother Tongue Literary Analysis Mother Tongue by Amy Tan is an example of powerful family love that helps to overcome obstacles. According to Reinhold Niebuhr, family life is too intimate to be preserved by the spirit of justice. It can be sustained by a spirit of love which goes beyond justice. Therefore, a family is a large organism that needs to be nourished and maintained. Mother Tongue is a sentimental and emotional story about a great writer Amy Tan and her lovely mother who struggles from imperfect knowledge of the language of the country in which she lives. Mother Tongue is one of the examples of a pure and honest love in the family of immigrants, who tried to identify themselves in the new society and overcome the language barrier. As a Chinese woman, Amy Tan, whose culture based on respect and veneration of parents, supports and helps her mother on a long way to tide over her broken English. (Tan 119) The connection between a daughter and a mother allows Amy to understand her mother s limited language just by a heart. (Tan 119) Language is a very powerful and strong instrument, but the related blood between the two main characters is capable to express everything without the words. Amy loved her mother so much and did not want to hurt her feelings by calling her English broken or fractured , as if it were damaged and needed to be fixed, as if it lacked a certain wholeness and soundness . (Tan 119) Despite the global misunderstanding of society and her mother, Amy thinks that her mother s language is vivid, direct full of observation and imagery. • 7. Baseball and Steroids Confirmation/Argument Despite steroids having multiple negative effects on both athletes and the game of baseball, they also have good effects too. The first positive effect that steroids provide would be the fact that steroids help speed up recovery time. When a person is heavily stressed Cortisol is produced to help the body and mind handle the stress. However, because cortisol is so strong; in the process of trying to relieve stress it also damages muscle tissue and slows down the time it takes for your body to recuperate. This is where steroids come in, Steroids help to reduce the production of cortisol when your body is stressed. They can be used to help you recover from injuries or just to allow you to exercise more (Swain, 2007, para. 1). In addition, steroids when taken correctly can be used to treat medical conditions such as osteoporosis, anemia, arthritis, and even some forms of cancer. Steroids increase the production of red blood cells, which successfully effects the treating of anemia. They help increase bone density, so they are useful for patients suffering from osteoporosis. Steroids are also used to treat blood disorders, arthritis, and some types of cancers (Swain, 2007, para. 1). Another positive attribute of steroids would be that they help to increase muscles and build strong bones (Swain, 2007, para. 3). Steroids increase the amount of nitrogen in the body which allows for the production of more protein in the body, which ultimately fuels the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Countless information and news were reporting by social media and networking. David William Donald Cameron, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom issued a statement in 10 Downing Street that he will resign in October, and he would continue to service to the British public in the coming weeks and month. He hopes that the new Prime Minister leads the UK toward a right direction under the new situation. Meanwhile, the global economy and international currency were affected by the referendum. Global stock markets were falling down drastically and the British Pound did drop from $1.50 to $1.35, which was the lowest value since the 1980s. Investors also lost heavily. For example, many financial analysts think that like Warren Buffett and other successful investors probably lost billions of dollars on average after the vote. • 10. The Tempest Power In Shakespeare s play The Tempest, the usurpation of power is a big theme. Even the opening scene introduces power struggles among the noblemen and sailors. We learn that the former Duke of Milan Prospero s power was usurped by his brother, Antonio. Finally, Antonio advises Sebastian, the King of Naples s brother, to follow suit. These complex power dynamics might be caused by a difference in opinion. Everyone has their own vision of ideal government, and everyone is greedy for power; a deadly combination. (2.1.147 8) By eliminating class (riches and poverty) as well as education (letters), he hopes to create a free society where citizens wouldn t need to worry about the impact of their actions, but only on their personal fulfillment. All the better, in his opinion, that his subjects do not work, since the land would provide everything they need: All things in common nature should produce / Without sweat or endeavor. (2.1.156 7) Without any human effort, his natural order of government will collapse. His system is similar to libertarianism because both of these systems seek to give the government a smaller role and maximize individual choice. As in anarchism, everyone is free to do as they wish without the establishment of an organized government or labor force. This idyllic commonwealth is a nice thought, but there is a major hole in his logic. Antonio points out that [t]he latter end of his commonwealth forgets the beginning. (2.1.154) Antonio means that Gonzalo s first proposition, that he be the King on t, contradicts his last since very society he hopes to build would be run without name of magistrate. One example of a tragedy is Oedipus The King, written by Sophocles around 441 B.C. Many events in this tragedy take place and cause the main character, Oedipus, to reach his downfall. Oedipus intelligence, pursuit of truth, and hot temper all contribute to his downfall. Oedipus intelligence is one thing that leads to his downfall. When Oedipus first came to Thebes he had solved the riddle of the sphinx. Because of this, the Priest had come to him and asked him to help them with the plague that has come to Thebes (39 43). The priest comes to Oedipus saying, You freed us from the Shinx, you came to Thebes and cut us loose from the bloody tribute we had paid that harsh, brutal singer (44 46). The beginning of civilizations starts on education, as future generations are taught the ideals and beliefs of a society; this leads me to take the same exact step in implementing my strategy. During the training session, it was very apparent when the trainer answered a question in an irrelevant manner and although she spoke in an upbeat manner, her responses could sometimes sound impersonal and ambiguous. Since she spoke in the same friendly tone throughout, it was very hard to read her actual feelings during it. I found that when I needed to ask a question, I would wait and see if someone else had the same question first and depending on how she was answering things, I typically did not bother. Failing to have a nutritious diet has caused an increase in weight and multiple lower level health needs such as back pains and headaches. Themes of sex and their regulation from all forms of figures and institutions influence the public s perceptions of normality. The controversies of society that result in a heightened reaction from the public is a moral panic. Reactions that result in these mass panics can be initiated by simple facts about a certain taboo, and as generations change, so do the norms of that society, creating a flux of opinions that can generate violent reactions. Because two taboos had become intertwined, the town of Massachusetts became engrossed in the topic of witches. While men were also the victims, women were the center of the burnings, and were usually seen as outcasts that exposed an area or town to a negative reputation. This is highly sexist, as women had few lifestyle options, and if they deviated from what was expected, they were at risk of being accused of witchcraft. Weeding out unpleasant townsfolk was a major criteria for trials. In this period, women generally belonged to a father until married. Outcasts usually defined women who were homeless and not married. This meant women were dependent on men, working to please a male dominated society where their lives were strictly controlled. Those who were raped were at fault for their victimization. Women in this age were solely housewives, without an education and held no power or land. Perhaps the few freedoms females enjoyed that were not advised by fellow colonial women were view with jealous eyes, and punished by the resentful. Another interesting and ironic fact that the actual term witch hunts became used metaphorically to describe moral panics in general. Many Europeans and North Americans would not necessarily find these things beautiful. How do you explain those differences in perspective? The difference in perspective can be explained by how the people grew up. Growing up in America, young girls have seen their moms and other women in their life wearing makeup such as eyeshadow and mascara to bring out their eyes. It is a trace gas that is vital to Earth s atmosphere and has been around since the creation of Earth s first atmosphere, which occurred shortly after the planet s creation. The advent of Earth s second atmosphere happened when lighter gases such as hydrogen escaped into space or were bound to molecules, leaving gases like nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and other gases that were the product of volcanism to make up the majority of the atmosphere. Leading up to the present, levels of CO2 have fluctuated due to geochemical processes such suspension of the gas in sediment, silicate rock weathering, and volcanism. Also, human activity plays a large part in carbon deposition into the atmosphere predominantly through the burning of fossil fuels and the cultivation of livestock. On a drastically larger time scale the carbon cycle is ever so slightly reducing atmospheric CO2 , which will ultimately bring the concentration down near zero, causing all life on the planet to be wiped out. The carbon cycle, including both terrestrial and aquatic processes, is the foundation under which photosynthesis is possible. Aside from the carbon cycle, CO2 is a key element in many other natural processes and phenomena such as the Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming . After the advent of the second atmosphere, the atmosphere had ~100 times as much gas as the current atmosphere , which contained a large amount of CO2 which is believed to have kept the Earth from freezing over. Over the next few billion years the water vapor condensed to form oceans and rain that started to absorb CO2. Eventually 50% of the carbon in the atmosphere would end up suspended in the ocean. This caused ocean acidification, which is the decrease in the pH level of the ocean. Air Canada s early strategy was to grow the business, with minimal concern about their staff members and customers. Without any benefits or rewards their staff felt underappreciated. Their customers felt as though their feedback wasn t being heard but in the eyes of Air Canada as long as their business was expanding, they were satisfied. This was evident with the purchase of Canadian Airlines, in 1999 (The National, 2003). With the purchase of this airline, Air Canada also inherited their estimated eight billion dollar debt (The National, 2003). Also inherited from the merger, were underappreciated employees and under trained employees who lacked morale (The National, 2003). In 2003, Air Canada filed for bankruptcy (The National, 2003), this was due to the large financial deficit, the economy and the underappreciated/paid employees. Although, this was a difficult time for the airline, this truly marked the change in how the airline is structured.
