Ultrasound Therapy Lab Report
Objective: The principle of focused ultrasound therapy (FUS) is to elevate the pathological tissue
temperature rapidly therefore to ablate the target tissue. While absorbing the thermal energy from
ultrasound beam, the target tissue also have thermal exchange with surround tissues by conduction and
convection. The blood vessels can generate more effective convection on the proximity. If the target
pathological tissue locate the proximity of blood vessel, the thermal convective effect from blood flow
must be considered.
Thiel fluid is an advanced technology to store tissues, and it does not cause significant difference on
thermodynamics properties. Therefore the Thiel kidney is the idea specimen for the perfusion and
FUS therapy experiment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Thiel kidneys are placed into the sealed waterproof plastic bag, and the renal artery is used as the
inflow, while the renal vein as the outflow. A tube is connect to the plastic bag to extract the saline
water back to the heart lung machine to complete the circulation. Cable ties are required to close the
distal of the artery to guarantee the whole saline water is perfused into the kidney s blood circulation
network (Figure 1).
The simulator is placed under the image guided FUS surgical environment. Multiple image
technologies is used for the FUS therapy experiment. X Ray (OEC9900, GE, USA), MR scan (1.5T,
GE, USA) are used to image the perfusing model.
The ExAblate 2000 (Insighte, Haifa, Isreal) focused ultrasound is used to ablate the kidney perfusion
model. The result will state the effect of blood flow on FUS therapy. The parameters for MRgFUS in
this experiment are as follows: TE=100ms, TR=150ms, Flip Angle=60°, Slice Thickness=5mm.
Acoustic Power=20W, Duration Time=20s. The sonication target position were selected nearby main
vessels, approximately 5mm away from the vessesl. Each selected position were sonicated twice, one
under the conidtion with blood flow, while the other without. The overall flow speed is controlled at
500 mL/min for porcine kidneys and 200 mL/min for human kidneys. The temperature rises are

The Keiserschlacht or Emperor s Battle
In 1914, General Erich Ludendorff, Germany s key commander in World War I, along with General
Paul von Hindenburg, strategically placed the German Army in a series of three 25 mile trenches in
central France. This new position gave the German s a false sense of security, which led them to
believe that they would win World War I. At first, the onslaught and brute force of the offensive
proved itself well. The Kaiserschlacht, or Emperor s Battle, quickly turned around due to lack of
supplies and heavy casualties. Since the Central Powers were becoming more confident, they made
more mistakes and thus began losing battles and eventually the war. Greater numbers and strength of
the Allied Powers ultimately led to the slaughter and defeat of the Germans under Generals
Ludendorff and Hindenburg. Germany had the chance to end the war before the resources from the
United States could be deployed into France and Britain. In an advantage by numbers, fearless leader
Ludendorff set off to gain land for Germany and defeat the Allied powers once and for all. The
Germans knew that they had to conquer Europe before the Americans could train soldiers and ship
men and supplies to the front lines. The addition of Americans to the Allied Powers would
significantly impact the outcome of the war. Germany still believed that they could win the war.
German hope was increased when Russia withdrew from the war in 1917. Ludendorff, a former chief
of staff under General Hindenburg, was a

Informative Speech About The PAL Program
Informative Speech
Hi my name is Morgan Delgado and my informative speech is about the PAL program. David Green
said, You need an attitude of service. You re not just serving yourself. You help others to grow up and
you grow with them. Many high school students say they are too busy with schoolwork and
extracurricular activities to find time to volunteer. What if there was a program that allowed students
to help others during the school day? The Peer Assistance and Leadership or PAL program for short,
allows students to help others while having fun, earning school credit for the course, and getting
volunteer hours. The PAL program provides students with an opportunity to help at risk students,
volunteer in the community, and participate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each PAL is assigned 3 5 students, called PALees, who are identified by the teacher or counselor as
needing extra support. The elementary or intermediate students are referred for academic support,
behavioral issues, or social issues. It is the PALs job to cater to the need of each student they are
mentoring. The PAL visits each of these students once per week for 30 minutes during the school day.
Each week has a theme that the activity must follow. Some of the weekly themes include math,
reading, crafts, and technology. The PAL plans a new activity for each week to support the need of
each student. Many kids benefit from this program because they have someone who is a good role
model for them as well as someone they can count on.
PALs not only make a difference in the lives of students, but also in the community. PALs participate
in community service project including collecting school supplies, toy drives, and gift packages for
the armed forces. PALs also put on events for special needs students such as APE Field Day for all the
special needs students in the district. At this event students get to play games and have a chance to win
prizes. PALs also support school sports teams by attending games as a group. They support the players
by cheering for them and making

Adnan Masud Syed Case
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 11, states: Everyone charged with a penal offense
has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law in a public trial at which he
has had all the guarantees necessary for his defense (Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948).
In the case of Adnan, he was provided with both of these rights and guarantees, but just because he
was proven guilty in court does not mean he killed Hae Lee on January 13, 1999. On February 25,
2000, Adnan Masud Syed was found guilty of first degree murder for the strangulation of Hae Min
Lee, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and robbery (Francke, 2000). Although Syed is still in prison,

Perjury is evident throughout the case and Jay Wild s testimony, which ultimately changed the state s
case and the course of the trial. If the same quality and quantity of evidence were provided in any
other murder trial, it should still be unlikely that someone could be convicted of a crime that serious.
Adnan s first crime is an example of how our justice system is still flawed. Multiple physical and
substantial pieces of evidence are needed to prove that Adnan is guilty. In Adnan s first case, evidence
was ineffectively used and a large amount of evidence was left out. Looking at the case as a whole, the
state s case was largely based off of whether or not Adnan is capable of murder and the words of one
man. Adnan was poorly represented and his defense seemed unorganized and insignificant. Finding
Adnan guilty of Hae s murder based off of one man s testimony, who admitted to repeatedly lying, and
cell phone records that have been proven to be inaccurate is illogical. Analysis of new evidence in
comparison to previous evidence used to convict Adnan will show that he is, in fact, innocent. If
Adnan s second trial focusses more on relevant, new information rather than two pieces of
questionable evidence and Adnan s character, capability, or emotional connection to Hae, the jury
should find

How Hackers Can Protect Our Systems
In today s society, the term hacker is very well known across the world. It is scary to know that you
are being a victim of any individual who works with remote computers. People who use unauthorized
entries to other computers through communication networks such as the Internet, are known as hacker.
Since the technology has improved, all people should have information about hackers and how we can
protect our systems against them.
Where was this term born? The term hacker comes from an idea derived from a community of
computer programmers and systems designers, in the 1960s around the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology s, Tech Model Railroad Club and MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. A hacker is a
person who secretly gets access to a computer system in order to get information. They create
programs that are so complex, even the best programmers cannot conceive them. Many of the hackers
are probably between fourteen and eighteen years old. They earn a lot of money stealing important
information; also, they steal because they are paid for doing it; but, many people have become their
prey causing them emotional disturbances.
Since 1997, companies have received hacker attacks in their systems, making some lose a significant
amount of money. With this history attacks it is now important to find a method to combat them. They
work stealing our passwords, using the process password cracking, which works recovering passwords
from data that have been stored in or

Sliding Filament Thory, with Ref to Upper Arm.

3:2. Draw and label a diagram of a synovial joint, explaining the functions of each structure.
3:3. Distinguish between a hinge, pivot and a ball and socket joint with reference to named examples,

To understand the sliding filament theory, one should first look at the muscles. All movement through
the body is created and stopped by muscles. Muscles work in antagonistic pairs, that means that when
one muscle relaxes, it antagonistic pair will contract and vice versa. Muscle fibres are found in ...

The binding of ATP allows myosin to detach from actin. While detached, ATP hydrolysis occurs
recharging the myosin head, (Or resetting the myosin head) If the actin binding sites are still available,
myosin can bind actin again.
The collective bending of numerous myosin heads (all in the same direction), combine to move the
actin filament relative to the myosin filament. This results in muscle contraction in the upper arm.
In the presence of the biochemical adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the myosin and actin fibres would
slide past each other, effectively shortening the muscle. (Huxley).
Summary
Scientists have come a long way in the research relating to muscle contraction. In the past several
decades information has been added along the way and will certainly continue into the future. It is
fascinating to learn how the body moves. It relates to every one of us in every part of our day. As a
student I sit in amazement at the processes that are required in every small movement we can so easily
take for granted.

25 April 2017 Fandoms a Home to Many When one hears the word fan two mental images pop up,

Society s Demographic Transition
Demographic Transition To begin with a demographic transition is basically the changes that occur
within a society s population whereby these are changes from high levels of crude birth and death
rates with a low rate of natural increase to lower levels of crude death and birth rates yet still having a
low rate of natural increase and having a higher total population, and all of these changes that occurs
goes back to either developments in economy or changes in standard of living. Now as we all know
each and every country has once experienced and witnessed changes in their population either having
transformations in favor of the population or the opposite thus causing many disadvantages to the
population. This process of the transition consists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In ancient times up until today humans were still in stage one though now no country is any longer in
that stage, as every nation has now moved at least to stage two and has therefore experienced many
changes in their population according to().usually during the first stage people used to live on hunting
and gathering to get food and when there was enough food for everyone population used to increase
on the other hand if food was hard to find they usually saw a decline in their population. Whereas
stage two it s a stage of high growth which means there is a rapid decline in death rate yet having a
rapid growth in the population, therefore having a high natural increase, this is mainly because of
improvements in medicine or access to cleaner and healthier life. Usually, countries that experience an
improvement in their standard of living for example because of industrial revolutions they tend to
enter such a stage, such countries that entered this stage were North America and Europe. Then comes
the third stage is known as the stage of decreasing growth whereby BR declines while DR stays
declining and according to () NIR begins to moderate. In this stage, there still is growth though slower
than stage two a society enters this stage when people decide to have fewer children which goes back
to access to contraception and a better economic condition. Usually developed countries with a good
job and standard of living are in such stages which according to () that their economic conditions
encourage them to have fewer children. Finally stage four the stage of low growth in which there s a
very low BR and CR and the possibility of even a low NIR, A country reaches such a stage when CBR
is equal to CDR and the NIR is almost zero. This happens because women enter the labor force and

Sulphur Queen Essay
The Sulphur Queen was a 523 foot tanker that was originally intended to carry oil, but was converted
to carry sulphur. On Feb. 3, 1963, the ship sent a radio report that placed it 230 miles southeast of
New Orleans, La., according to a report by Time Magazine. Then nothing. There was no SOS and no
warning of trouble. The ship simply disappeared. Two weeks later, pieces of a raft, a life vest and a
broken oar washed up on Florida beaches. An investigation launched by the Coast Guard shortly after
the disappearance concluded that the vessel was nowhere near seaworthy and likely caught fire at sea.
Such a conclusion was not far fetched. According to the article, once, the Queen actually sailed into a
New Jersey port with fires smoldering, unloaded her cargo, and sailed off again still burning. There s
really no explanation for where the term bermuda comes from besides it being the name for a group of

Nietzsche s The Genealogy Of Morality
The Genealogy of Morals is a polemic view of morality written by the idiosyncratic German
philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. The first book develops on 3 fundamental concepts. The concept of
the Slave Morality, Ressitement, and the Aristocratic Morality. In the First book Nietzsche attempts to
show the distinction of Good vs. Evil through genealogy. A genealogy could be comparable to an
intricate etymology. A genealogy would be a historical approach to any philosophical question by first
determining the origin or source of a word. What first put me on the right track was this question:
what is the true etymological meaning of the various terms for the idea Good which have been coined
in various languages? (Page 17) Nietzsche does this with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the History of Sexuality Michel makes a genealogical analysis of the metamorphosis of power
relationships. Foucault claims that that in current hegemonic society there is a far more subtle system
of coercion grounded in the repressive hypothesis. (Spanos) This new view of power relations,
according to Foucault, represented power in essential notational terms. The repressive hypothesis, is a
trap, it also the relation between truth and power in modernity rests is a seductive deception. (Spanos)
The moment we assume we are free of the repressive hypothesis, is the exact moment we are caught in
it. The repressive hypothesis deals with the dichotomy between power and knowledge. Power is
opposed to knowledge, yet is complicit with it in ways that are unbeknown to us. This is analogous to
phusis and Alethia. Alethia is the revelment, the opposite of concealment. Phusis is the movement
between revealing and concealment. The more we think we know about a topic, there is an element
that always becomes more concealed to us. We assume knowledge gives us the ability to neutralize
power, but in fact it always the hegemonic influence of power to become stronger, in ways that won t
be apparent to us. A famous example of this is the Barbra Streisand effect. The Streisand effect occurs
when an individual tries to conceal or eradicate information, it has the polar effect and often makes the
information more readily available. A contemporary example of this would be the 2014 box office hit

R. E. M s Song Find The River
R.E.M s song, Find the River , has many shared images and symbols with Herman Hesse s novel,
Siddhartha . In reading both the book and Michael Stipes lyrics, one can imagine that Stipe was
familiar with the Hesse book. The book tells the story of Siddhartha, a young Brahmin who chooses to
leave the comfort of family and home to find his spiritual truth. During the story Siddhartha has a son
who decides that he must seek his own knowledge and comfort through materialism. It is possible to

The song begins with telling the listener that they need to slow down and consider a different path to
wisdom, Hey now, little speedy head, the read on the speed meter says, you have to go to task in the
city . The song encourages the listener to do as the speaker has done, I have got to leave to find my
way . This is heard in the beginning of Siddhartha, when he decides to leave his father s home, He had
begun to suspect that his worthy father and his other teachers, the wise Brahmins, had already passed
onto him the bulk and best of their wisdom, that they had already poured the sum total of their
knowledge into his waiting vessel and the vessel was not full. (pp.5). Stipe repeats the same idea when
he says, I have got to find the river, Bergamot and vetiver run through my head and fall away .
Bergamot and Vetiver are common incense tools used in Hindu temples and religious rituals, and the
speaker in Find the River , seems to say these tools run through his mind but are of no use, and that he
must find the truth through finding his river . He repeats this encouragement in the last stanza , There
is nothing left to throw of ginger, lemon, indigo, coriander stem and rose of hay. Strength and courage
overrides the privileged and weary eyes . Again, the speaker is imagining tools of his religion and
overcoming the weariness

Abstract
This paper discusses the immigration of Hispanics to the United States in which they faced prejudice,
segregation and racism. We will discuss such topics as dual labor market, affirmative actions, quotas,
instructional discrimination, reverse discrimination, glass ceilings, glass walls and glass escalators.
Hispanic workers are among the fastest growing segments of the U.S. labor force, said Jesse

Both services seek to ensure that, in terms of race and ethnicity, the group of officers commissioned in
the year 2000 roughly reflects the overall population: 12 percent African American, 12 percent
Hispanic, and 5 percent Asian. Department of the Navy officials point out that this represents a
significantly more aggressive goal than had been the case, when the focus for comparison had been on
college graduates; the more aggressive goal implies vigorous outreach and other efforts. Moreover, the
Navy and the Marine Corps have set specific year by year targets for meeting the 12/12/5 goal. (1995)
When taking affirmative action, one must be careful not to establish quotas. This would start to
become the glass ceiling, glass walls, or glass escalator. When a corporation, military, or business
starts to promote unqualified minorities to fill a quota, that is just a bad and discriminatory as being
racist or profiling. There has been great strides taken to counter discrimination in all ethnic groups, but
there is a long way ahead of society. I can identify with the minority groups. A study was conducted

Hispanics continue to be seriously discriminated against in employment throughout the country.

American Born Chinese Assimilation
The stories American Born Chinese by Gene Lang, Linh Lai by Rebecca Rosenblum and Tapka by
David Bezmozgis all follow the lives of immigrants and first generation born Canadians/Americans.
These stories are diverse both in the ethnicity of the characters and in their experiences. However, they
are all summative of the detriment of the immigrant experience, which is a universal struggle. These
stories, through their diversity and similarity, give the cumulative theme that assimilation often does
more harm than good, and that it widely contributes to isolation, loneliness and loss of identity.

It s not a Vietnamese name. It s not a Canadian name. It s a no name (3). Linh is forced into a new

his restaurant. Her uncle, on the other hand wishes for her to leave her old identity behind and

Morley Callaghan Symbols
Books are the foundation of diverse characters and themes, though are often overlooked; a reader
finds intrigue by the story rather than the meaning written between the lines of the written text. The
author works feverishly to bring these ideas forward through the variety of literary devices, however
the hard work put into the novel does not necessarily achieve recognition. The Loved and the Lost by
Morley Callaghan contains effective use of literary devices to develop the characters morals, and their
position in society concerning social status and societal isolation. The techniques that author skillfully
uses include flashback, dialogue and symbolism. Flashback works to characterize and shape each
character, while dialogue creates interactions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Callaghan excels in using symbolism with his knowledge on both society and the understanding of
what the images represent. Symbols work to break down a character and present their opinions on
society to gain a better understanding of what the individual believes in. Peggy Sanderson is an
advocate for change in the treatment of black culture and is constantly showing her respect for the
group that others oppress. A symbol that best describes Peggy s opinion is the river, which flows
around the city of Montreal. It was those who wanted a change who preferred the broad flowing river
(Callaghan 1), perfectly describing Peggy through the use of symbolism in nature. Peggy wants to see
change in the world and her strive for change is like a river that is constantly flowing. Water in a river
never stops and fresh water replaces it as it flows. Peggy never stops respecting the African American
culture and will always speak her mind on the subject, despite what others believe. Similar to the river,
the mountain is also an important piece of symbolism in the text. Symbolism creates a representation
of the societal mindset and the ways by which a society works. Segregation in the text is more than
common and the isolation between groups is prominent. In Callaghan s work, the white culture is
racist and oppresses the black culture, remaining stuck in their oppressive ways. The belief that their
ways should not change describes Catherine Carver, a young woman who has a divorce and engages
in a romantic relationship with McAlpine. Catherine is the daughter of Mr. Carver, an aristocrat who is
very set in his ways and does not believe in change, which he passes down to his daughter. In contrast
to the river, the mountain represents Catherine and the overall white culture at the time. A mountain is
firm and never moves nor does it change, which is why those who wanted

federal, state and local authorities makes for a unique operation that must be ever changing and
evolving to meet new and different threats. This massive undertaking falls directly under the

Clearly there have been no successful airline hijackings that resulted like 9/11 and that being the new
standard of achievement we are doing quite well. What we must focus on is the prevention of
something larger and possibly even more difficult, several coordinated small scale attacks.
Unfortunately there is no one size fits all plan that will work for land, sea and air borders. Each, as
outlined previously, pose unique and difficult challenges. One of the most pressing issues to border
security is illegal immigration. Not only is it a drain on the economy through entitlement programs but
is a security concern because we just don t know who is coming across the border. As a country one
solution is to cut off the incentive to illegally enter the country. Just the fact that you are very unlikely
to be caught much less deported for entering illegally is reason enough to sneak across the border.
Throw in the free medical, food stamps, housing assistance, and education along with the Holy Grail
of potential amnesty leading to citizenship and it only makes sense that someone struggling in Latin
American would do anything to get in. What we must work on is a working system for legal
immigration not the system of limited work visas, exile requests and family reunification requests that
we are working with now. We can also work with our neighbor to the south Mexico to continue to
stem the flow of narcotics as well as working

In this model the productivity of a firm in a given region and time is determined by the productivity of
firms in other regions and also other explanatory factors of firms in other regions. If both θ=0 and

region and time period is affected by the productivity of firm in another regions. Another possible case
can be when ρ=0 and θ=0 which will be Spatial Error Model. This model incorporates the effect of
shocks in dependent variable of other cross sectional units to productivity of region. We estimate the

Elapsed Time In The Classroom
The math lesson that my practicum partner and I performed in our classroom was a review of elapsed
time. The topic of our lesson was telling and writing time to the nearest minute and to solve word
problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes. The concept of elapsed time
is actually a relatively hard topic, especially at eight years old and having remembering it after
returning from spring break with pre PARCC anxiety. That being said, this review was beneficial for
the class. We began our lesson by facilitating a carpet discussion about the different strategies that
students prefer to figure out how much time has passed between events. I was very satisfied with how

I was happy with the pair sharing because the students can explain ideas in ways that I may have never
considered, and their explanation may help other students understanding. In addition, there is a great
sense of classroom community discourse that occurs with this specific class, their level of respect for
each other is incredible. Our lesson activity had the students rotating around the room and performing
different word problems for about 4 minutes at each station. I think the students liked that they were
able to move around. Also the amount of time we gave them was challenging and fun, without making
it too intense like a drill. When we went over the answers to the problems we had students come
demonstrate how they got their answer on the whiteboard and discuss why they chose the
method/strategy they did, which was good because some other students were able to observe and
learn. My main regret from this lesson is having the activity answers discussed and displayed with
students at their desks and not the carpet. With this specific group they are so much more engaged

Corporate Law Firms And Small Private Law Companies
1. A private law firm is a law firm that generates its income mainly from the attorney (and paralegal)
fees paid by clients (Statsky 35). This type of law firm includes the largest percentage of working
paralegals at 70%. A private law firm typically works in general practice, which means that they might
have multiple practice areas. Within the division of private law firms, there are two other subdivisions:
larger private law firms and smaller private law firms. Paralegals in larger private law firms typically
have better benefits and are paid more. They also usually specialize in one area of law, and there is a
likely a career ladder in that firm. On the other hand, the paralegals in smaller private law firms often
have more variety in their work, but they also may have a handful of clerical tasks to complete. While
there is not much of a career ladder, these paralegals tend to have more contact with clients.
Corporations can have in house law departments in which the only client is the corporation itself.
These in house law departments are usually headed by the general counsel, who acts as the chief
attorney. On average, there are about seventeen attorneys and five paralegals per corporate law
department. The paralegals typically have high pay and very good benefits. They do not have many
clerical tasks to complete, and a career ladder for paralegals exists. They tend to have a narrowly
defined role in corporate law departments. In the government, there are three

Problems in Air Traffic Control and Proposed Solutions
Problems in Air Traffic Control and Proposed Solutions In northern California this summer, the

In the late Sixties, Martin Luther King Jr. fought hard for equal rights. Before he was assassinated in
1968, he made a speech about his vision of human equality. I have a dream that my four children will
one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of
their character. (King) The Sixties were a turning point for racial equality. Because of leaders like

If we base our decisions on race or gender, we turn our back on the group that truly needs assistance:
the low income family. Race is present in every level of society, the lower class, the middle class, and
the upper class. Then why should middle and upper class minorities benefit today with special
privileges when they may have not been personally affected by discrimination? There are no policies
or procedures of affirmative action that prove an individual deserves special privileges. In theory, a
wealthy minority citizen would receive more advantages in society than an underprivileged or low
income white male. In this case, the underprivileged is in more need, but the determination of the
benefits is solely decided by ethnicity and not by proven hardship or financial need. The Center for
Equal Opportunity has expressed their disapproval of affirmative action specifically because it has
been an unnecessary benefit for wealthy minority business owners. The most disadvantaged group of
Americans are not blacks, Hispanics or women—they are the low income individuals who are
underprivileged.

The Abc Sitcom 2 Broke Girls
The CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls has had continuous success ever since it first aired in 2011. What
makes 2 Broke Girls different than many other TV sitcoms is that almost every member of the main
cast has a different rationality, making the show one of the most diverse sitcoms to ever exist. The two
broke girls are named Caroline and Max. Caroline has blonde hair, blue eyes, and a slim figure. She
grew up in a wealthy home, never had to work, and attended college. Caroline lived an upper class
lifestyle until her father was convicted of financial wrongdoings and lost everything. In contrast, Max
has brown hair, brown eyes, and a larger figure and has worked since she was very young. The two
girls are waitresses in a run down diner. In addition, the diner is owned by a very short Asian man
named Han and the cashier is an elderly black man named Earl. The sitcom follows their lives as they
learn how to deal with each other and their lower class lifestyles. Similar to many sitcoms, 2 Broke
Girls takes advantage of the diverse ethnic and racial stereotypes of the characters to make comedic
entertainment. While the comedy in the show does grab the attention of the audience, what also stands
out is the connection of the characters. All of the commonalities that come with living in similar
situations overpower their differences in race and ethnicity. Even though the characters stereotypes
and interactions are constantly being mocked for comedic material, they all have a special bond

Literary Analysis Of In The Lake Of The Woods
The Monster Inside the Man. No matter how well people think they are at keeping secrets, the truth
will always come out. In the book In the Lake of the Woods by Tim O Brien with John Wade is an
ambitious man who, since childhood, has been seeking acceptance and appreciation from others.
Many tragic events from his life are what shaped him and what led him to great heights to achieve
this. Until he loses his wife Kathy is when he realizes that the only acceptance and appreciation that he
needed was from her. O Brien s creation of John s character demonstrates the way the revelation of an
abhorrent secret can make one a monster in the eyes of many despite attempts to prove otherwise. As a
child, John Wade lived with his mother and father. His father was a charming and outgoing man. He
was the kind of person people liked to be around. I wish he was my father , (O Brien 67) a kid from
John s class said once. However, people did not know John s father the way he did. Mr. Wade was an
alcoholic, and all little John wanted from him was his rarely shown affection. During his childhood
John was husky and very interested in magic. His father constantly teased him about it, which affected
John s self esteem. When Mr. Wade died, John s wish for his father to be more affectionate to him was
buried in the same grave. In consequence, John developed an obsession with magic that helped him
cope with the grief that overcame him. It gave him a sense of control over the uncontrollable. He

Notes On On Land And Water By Kyle Dean
Terrestrialization on Land or in Water
By Kyle Dean
Intro.
The movement to land by plants has been a point of great interest for many researchers. The
complexity of the situation is in the characterization of those traits that were most essential to the
viability on land, and whether those traits developed prior to terrestrialization or post terrestrialization.
This complexity stems from the long branch of phylogeny leading to terrestrialization having an
incomplete fossil record due to environmental changes throughout time. The gold standard hypothesis
on terrestrialization introduced by Bower is accepted in the scientific community as the explanation
for terrestrial plant diversification of plant orders and families. Bower s hypothesis articulates, that the
evolution of antithetic alternating life cycles was instrumental in adapting to the terrestrial habitat.
(Harholt et al., 2016) In other words the development of the free living sporophyte and gametophyte
was critical to a plants ability to live on land. This information if taken only to mean the
diversification of land plant orders and families is accepted by most without question, for the
alternating life cycle is imperative to suitability of land plants; however, if Bower intended for his
hypothesis to be inclusive of the primordial terrestrialization then his hypothesis has encountered
some criticism. Stebbins and Hill in 1980 conducted research that concluded with the premise that
unicellular charophytes invaded

approach to working with adolescent clients. For instance, it has become easier to express what has
been learned through experience about the needs of the adolescent client especially with my internship

Art therapy with adolescents with depression can be a successful modality of treatment because it
allows the client to be able to control communication. The adolescent can create whatever they want
and can choose share what they choose. For some adolescents nonverbal communication is more
comfortable than attempting to put feelings into words. This is a new generation. Verbal
communication is pushed aside by the use of technology. The adolescent can also feel respected

In To Kill A Mockingbird, Scout enjoys things like playing outside with Jem and Dill and wearing
more tomboyish clothes (something I cover in body paragraph one). Because she enjoys playing
outside with Jem and Dill, this means she enjoys doing things boys typically do, like roughhousing
and dares. This, of course, affects her gender expression, which is explained in depth in paragraph
one, but that is something that is huge in her daily life. Because the citizens of Maycomb have such
stereotypical and constricting views on gender and what that entails, such as women are there to create
a home while men are outside and doing work, Scout gets a lot of disapproval over her clothes and
how she spends her time, especially from Aunt Alexandra. On page 83 of To Kill A Mockingbird,
revealing that Alexandra thinks Scout should spend her time playing with small stoves and tea sets
rather than outdoors with the boys. The desire for Scout to be playing with small stoves gives off a
slight patriarchal vibe, meaning that they are pushing cooking and homemaking on a girl that is under

really, Victoria couldn t blame them. But as the book goes on, you can tell that he has much more
control over his emotions than Victoria does, and he is very capable of doing things. A lot of this is
revealed by his reactions to Victoria s nitpicks. Whenever she tells him to keep his shirt tucked in or to

when he is getting coached by Mrs. Cavendish, (a.k.a, playing a piano with no strings in it while bugs

The Shadows Of Man By Jane Goodall Essay
In The Shadows of Man by Jane Goodall Primatology is the scientific study of non human primate
behaviors among wild apes, monkeys and other related animals in natural settings or in laboratories by
conducting lab experiments and studies on captive primates. A person who studies primatology is a
primatologist. There are many reasons for studying primates, but possibly the most significant reason
is to learn about the origins of humans. When studying primatology, one can easily observe the
behavioral similarities primates share with humans, and probably begin to understand how humans got
to where they are today. The reason anthropology studies primates over any other animal is because
primates are the closest living relatives to humans. One primatologist, who significantly surpassed
many others in her field, was Jane Goodall. Jane Goodall studied the behaviors of primates and other
animals as well, but she specifically studied chimpanzees. Goodall in her book, In the Shadows of
Man, shared her three groundbreaking discoveries she achieved through her extensive observations
and research. Goodall s three major discoveries were the complex social system chimps had lived, the
hunting and meat consumption process and the usage of tools. Goodall s research lead to massive

Lewis begins chapter two with God Almighty, by questioning the meaning of God s omnipotence. He
asserts that God s omnipotence means that God does not have the power to do anything but God does
have power to do anything that is consistent with his nature. God has the power to do all that is
intrinsically possible, not to do the intrinsically impossible. We may attribute miracles to him, but not
nonsense. Lewis then suggests that not even God s omnipotence could create men with free wills
without at the same time creating a relatively independent and unavoidable nature. Lewis establishes a
universe where free souls can communicate with one another and have free will. That man, possessing
this free will, may take advantage of the laws of

Analyzing Wilson s Disease
Wilson s disease is a well known leading cause of chronic liver disease in children. However it may
remain undiagnosed in a resource limited setting for a long period. We describe a six year male child
diagnosed Wilson s disease with extreme elevation of liver enzymes which is not reported earlier. The
diagnosis was also baffling because of inconsistency of other laboratory parameters.
Introduction
Wilson disease is one of the common metabolic liver disorders prevailing worldwide. The diagnosis is
always difficult in children [1]. It is also a chronic liver disease for which effective therapy is available
therefore, early diagnosis is crucial. However because of its varied range of clinical manifestation, at
times the diagnosis is clinically challenging. Early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diagnosis is further complicated when investigations does not support the condition.
Patient and observation
A six year male child presented with chief complaints of yellow discoloration of eyes and associated
history of passing high coloured urine for three months. It was associated with nausea, diffuse
abdominal pain and decreased appetite. There was no history of irritability, change in behaviour or
altered sleep pattern and no bleeding from any site. He had not received blood transfusion any time in
the past. There was no similar illness any of the family members. The child was admitted to a private
institution for a two week period, but as there was no improvement, he was referred to our institute. At
admission, he was afebrile and vitals were stable. General physical examination revealed mild pallor
and severe jaundice. Gastrointestinal systemic examination revealed moderate hepatomegaly along
with an enlarged left lobe of liver. There were no other clinical features suggestive of chronic liver
disease. Investigations revealed a total serum bilirubin of 15.6mg/dl with conjugated fraction of
13.40mg/dl.

Globalization And Its Impact On The World
The Past
Globalization, it could be argued, began when tribes first realized there were other tribes in the
surrounding areas. With different specialties and skills, these groups began to trade. While these
groups may not have been very geographically separated, the available world was expanding as more
and more people groups began to connect and interact. Landmarks in the development of globalization
can be traced through history: from the exchange of both goods and knowledge on the silk roads and
the discovery of the Americas to the inventions of the steam engine and the telegraph (Free Exchange,
2013). Through these milestones, the world was growing in terms of awareness, but shrinking in terms
of ability to travel, trade, and share ideas.
In a form that is more recognizable today, globalization began as the world began to open in waves, or
rather a tsunami, as Harold Sirkin and his colleagues theorize in Globality. Globality is the next step
after globalization; it is the new reality in which companies will be competing with everyone, from
everywhere, for everything (Sirkin, Hemerling, Bhattacharya, 2008, p. 1). There are a multitude of
factors that have created the conditions for globality to occur. There have been many waves of
globalization, like those that brought Japan, Mexico, Korea, and many other nations into the world
arena.
Unlike these waves of varying size, the tsunami is a series of low, powerful waves caused by an
undersea disruption that crash

The Business Administration Online Degree Completion Program
I am a senior in the Business Administration Online degree completion program and currently
working in the Accounts Receivable department at Fayetteville Technical Community College. I chose
to research and write on Duke University Hospital for two reasons. First, my youngest daughter and
sister in law were both patients at Duke that received excellent care. My daughter had a pediatric brain
tumor and had surgery at Duke in 1999 and my late sister in law had terminal cancer and unfortunately
passed away in 2000. They actually were patients at Duke requiring in patient care during the same
time period in January of 1999. Second, I am interested in the Administrative processes at Duke.
While my daughter received quality care and a great prognosis as she has been tumor free since her
surgery, the administrative side of Duke s processes was seriously lacking and I would like to learn
more about why this is the case. I have always been interested in the customer service side of any
business and the distinction between great and mediocre service. Even though, I currently work in
Accounts Receivable, customer contact and information plays a vital role in the performance of my
job and the reputation of my organization. Also, I have heard personal accounts of other patients and
family members having similar negative experiences with the scheduling, billing and patient
information aspects of Duke University Hospital. Leadership, Management and Motivation Duke

Analysis Of The Book The Trojan War A New History

Berry Strauss s The Trojan War a New History Book Review
Barry Strauss, professor of classics at Cornell University attempts to redefine a one of history s
biggest love affairs, the Trojan War. Strauss explains how certain events and characters from Homers
The Odyssey might have actually existed, but also uses modern discoveries from the Bronze Age to
compare Homers account to those of Egypt, the Middle East, and etc. While Homer s epic should not
be read as a historical document which recounts the Trojan War hundred percent accurately, it can still
be seen as document which embodies some historical truth. The novel as a whole explains the
customs, economic standing, fighting styles and beliefs of the Greeks. Strauss s writing style allows
for the book to be accessible to both students and historians. He argues that just like Franz Ferdinand
was the spark which ignited World War 1, Helen on the other hand was just a spark which escalated an
existing tension between the Greeks and Trojans. Strauss s personal input on the war itself gives the
novel a different outlook on the Trojan War because, it allows for readers to see beyond the facts and
make connections with ideas that Strauss had made with recent discoveries and Homers epic. Strauss
sectionalizes the book in 11 chapters, excluding the introduction and conclusion, and in each chapter
he covers a different aspect of the

Today, The United States Illustrates Many Circumstances
Today, the United States illustrates many circumstances of race in which a group of a given descent is
discriminated against solely based on their physical appearance, despite the high demand for equality.
Linda Darling Hammond states that the color line divides [populations] still... even in the 21st century
and will continue to divide people in future centuries ( Unequal Opportunity: Race and Education ).
Some debacles of race include those of a minority population being targeted, however the opposite is
true for those trying to become a part of a college or university. In the college application process, the
federal government requires the administrators to ask which race the applicant is from on their college
application, in order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During one point of the the film, the two of them went separately to a job application center in which a
white lady was working. To John, the lady was kind and had faith that he would definitely fulfil her
clients wishes for an employee without really knowing him, however, to Glen, she nearly immediately
lectures him about how laziness is not acceptable and will do him no good, despite the fact that he was
John s equal. To show how many instances, big or small, of racism are exhibited, even today, a news
article published by CNN, states that 49 percent of blacks and 18 percent of whites believe racism to
be a very serious problem ( Poll: Most Americans See Lingering Racism In Others ), particularly in
the college admissions process. Similarly, in the college this process, race is a large determiner
affecting whether or not a person is going to be accepted into any given university, but on the contrary,
whites face the hardship due to their lack of diversity. Whites, particularly males, have a harder time
being accepted into prestigious colleges because the colleges have a strong desire for diversity in their
student body, creating an easier, less rigorous academic standard for someone of a

Comparing Contents Of The Pedestrian And The Trip
The Pedestrian by Ray Bradbury, Contents of the Dead Man s Pocket by Jack Finney and The Trip by
Laila Lalami all have three literary element ideas in common. The characters all faced regret at some
point in the story. They all have similar themes and could have the same overall theme. They all make
decisions that create their conflicts. The three stories all have some way to be compared.
All three stories could have the same theme. They all teach us that things don t always go to plan. In,
Contents of the Dead Man s Pocket, the last sentence includes, As he saw the yellow paper... , Sail out
into the night and out of his life, Tom Benecke burst into laughter.... After being so close to death for
that paper, he laughs because he didn t expect it to end that ay at all. At the end of The Trip , the guard
takes him to a moldy cell... This didn t pan out the way he thought it would at all. In the beginning it

  • 2. Ultrasound Therapy Lab Report Objective: The principle of focused ultrasound therapy (FUS) is to elevate the pathological tissue temperature rapidly therefore to ablate the target tissue. While absorbing the thermal energy from ultrasound beam, the target tissue also have thermal exchange with surround tissues by conduction and convection. The blood vessels can generate more effective convection on the proximity. If the target pathological tissue locate the proximity of blood vessel, the thermal convective effect from blood flow must be considered. • 3. The Keiserschlacht or Emperor s Battle In 1914, General Erich Ludendorff, Germany s key commander in World War I, along with General Paul von Hindenburg, strategically placed the German Army in a series of three 25 mile trenches in central France. This new position gave the German s a false sense of security, which led them to believe that they would win World War I. At first, the onslaught and brute force of the offensive proved itself well. The Kaiserschlacht, or Emperor s Battle, quickly turned around due to lack of supplies and heavy casualties. Since the Central Powers were becoming more confident, they made more mistakes and thus began losing battles and eventually the war. Greater numbers and strength of the Allied Powers ultimately led to the slaughter and defeat of the Germans under Generals Ludendorff and Hindenburg. Germany had the chance to end the war before the resources from the United States could be deployed into France and Britain. In an advantage by numbers, fearless leader Ludendorff set off to gain land for Germany and defeat the Allied powers once and for all. The Germans knew that they had to conquer Europe before the Americans could train soldiers and ship men and supplies to the front lines. The addition of Americans to the Allied Powers would significantly impact the outcome of the war. Germany still believed that they could win the war. German hope was increased when Russia withdrew from the war in 1917. Ludendorff, a former chief of staff under General Hindenburg, was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What if there was a program that allowed students to help others during the school day? In the case of Adnan, he was provided with both of these rights and guarantees, but just because he was proven guilty in court does not mean he killed Hae Lee on January 13, 1999. On February 25, 2000, Adnan Masud Syed was found guilty of first degree murder for the strangulation of Hae Min Lee, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and robbery (Francke, 2000). Perjury is evident throughout the case and Jay Wild s testimony, which ultimately changed the state s case and the course of the trial. If the same quality and quantity of evidence were provided in any other murder trial, it should still be unlikely that someone could be convicted of a crime that serious. Adnan s first crime is an example of how our justice system is still flawed. Multiple physical and substantial pieces of evidence are needed to prove that Adnan is guilty. In Adnan s first case, evidence was ineffectively used and a large amount of evidence was left out. Looking at the case as a whole, the state s case was largely based off of whether or not Adnan is capable of murder and the words of one man. Adnan was poorly represented and his defense seemed unorganized and insignificant. Finding Adnan guilty of Hae s murder based off of one man s testimony, who admitted to repeatedly lying, and cell phone records that have been proven to be inaccurate is illogical. Analysis of new evidence in comparison to previous evidence used to convict Adnan will show that he is, in fact, innocent. If Adnan s second trial focusses more on relevant, new information rather than two pieces of questionable evidence and Adnan s character, capability, or emotional connection to Hae, the jury should find ... • 6. How Hackers Can Protect Our Systems In today s society, the term hacker is very well known across the world. It is scary to know that you are being a victim of any individual who works with remote computers. People who use unauthorized entries to other computers through communication networks such as the Internet, are known as hacker. Since the technology has improved, all people should have information about hackers and how we can protect our systems against them. Where was this term born? The term hacker comes from an idea derived from a community of computer programmers and systems designers, in the 1960s around the Massachusetts Institute of Technology s, Tech Model Railroad Club and MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. A hacker is a person who secretly gets access to a computer system in order to get information. They create programs that are so complex, even the best programmers cannot conceive them. Many of the hackers are probably between fourteen and eighteen years old. They earn a lot of money stealing important information; also, they steal because they are paid for doing it; but, many people have become their prey causing them emotional disturbances. Since 1997, companies have received hacker attacks in their systems, making some lose a significant amount of money. With this history attacks it is now important to find a method to combat them. In the presence of the biochemical adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the myosin and actin fibres would slide past each other, effectively shortening the muscle. (Huxley). The repressive hypothesis, is a trap, it also the relation between truth and power in modernity rests is a seductive deception. (Spanos) The moment we assume we are free of the repressive hypothesis, is the exact moment we are caught in it. The repressive hypothesis deals with the dichotomy between power and knowledge. Power is opposed to knowledge, yet is complicit with it in ways that are unbeknown to us. This is analogous to phusis and Alethia. Alethia is the revelment, the opposite of concealment. Phusis is the movement between revealing and concealment. The more we think we know about a topic, there is an element that always becomes more concealed to us. Morley Callaghan Symbols Books are the foundation of diverse characters and themes, though are often overlooked; a reader finds intrigue by the story rather than the meaning written between the lines of the written text. The author works feverishly to bring these ideas forward through the variety of literary devices, however the hard work put into the novel does not necessarily achieve recognition. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Callaghan excels in using symbolism with his knowledge on both society and the understanding of what the images represent. Symbols work to break down a character and present their opinions on society to gain a better understanding of what the individual believes in. Peggy Sanderson is an advocate for change in the treatment of black culture and is constantly showing her respect for the group that others oppress. A symbol that best describes Peggy s opinion is the river, which flows around the city of Montreal. It was those who wanted a change who preferred the broad flowing river (Callaghan 1), perfectly describing Peggy through the use of symbolism in nature. Peggy wants to see change in the world and her strive for change is like a river that is constantly flowing. Water in a river never stops and fresh water replaces it as it flows. Peggy never stops respecting the African American culture and will always speak her mind on the subject, despite what others believe. Similar to the river, the mountain is also an important piece of symbolism in the text. Symbolism creates a representation of the societal mindset and the ways by which a society works. Segregation in the text is more than common and the isolation between groups is prominent. In Callaghan s work, the white culture is racist and oppresses the black culture, remaining stuck in their oppressive ways. The belief that their ways should not change describes Catherine Carver, a young woman who has a divorce and engages in a romantic relationship with McAlpine. Catherine is the daughter of Mr. Carver, an aristocrat who is very set in his ways and does not believe in change, which he passes down to his daughter. • 19. Homeland Security And Border Security The concept of border security in the U.S. shares a complex and ever changing relationship with global economics, international crime, and terrorism. In this context border security includes the protection of not only land borders, but also sea and air ports of entry. The relationship between federal, state and local authorities makes for a unique operation that must be ever changing and evolving to meet new and different threats. This massive undertaking falls directly under the Department of Homeland Security. What we must focus on is the prevention of something larger and possibly even more difficult, several coordinated small scale attacks. Unfortunately there is no one size fits all plan that will work for land, sea and air borders. Each, as outlined previously, pose unique and difficult challenges. One of the most pressing issues to border security is illegal immigration. Not only is it a drain on the economy through entitlement programs but is a security concern because we just don t know who is coming across the border. As a country one solution is to cut off the incentive to illegally enter the country. Just the fact that you are very unlikely to be caught much less deported for entering illegally is reason enough to sneak across the border. Throw in the free medical, food stamps, housing assistance, and education along with the Holy Grail of potential amnesty leading to citizenship and it only makes sense that someone struggling in Latin American would do anything to get in. • 23. Corporate Law Firms And Small Private Law Companies 1. A private law firm is a law firm that generates its income mainly from the attorney (and paralegal) fees paid by clients (Statsky 35). This type of law firm includes the largest percentage of working paralegals at 70%. A private law firm typically works in general practice, which means that they might have multiple practice areas. Within the division of private law firms, there are two other subdivisions: larger private law firms and smaller private law firms. Paralegals in larger private law firms typically have better benefits and are paid more. They also usually specialize in one area of law, and there is a likely a career ladder in that firm. On the other hand, the paralegals in smaller private law firms often have more variety in their work, but they also may have a handful of clerical tasks to complete. While there is not much of a career ladder, these paralegals tend to have more contact with clients. Corporations can have in house law departments in which the only client is the corporation itself. These in house law departments are usually headed by the general counsel, who acts as the chief attorney. On average, there are about seventeen attorneys and five paralegals per corporate law department. The paralegals typically have high pay and very good benefits. There are no policies or procedures of affirmative action that prove an individual deserves special privileges. In theory, a wealthy minority citizen would receive more advantages in society than an underprivileged or low income white male. In this case, the underprivileged is in more need, but the determination of the benefits is solely decided by ethnicity and not by proven hardship or financial need. What makes 2 Broke Girls different than many other TV sitcoms is that almost every member of the main cast has a different rationality, making the show one of the most diverse sitcoms to ever exist. The two broke girls are named Caroline and Max. Caroline has blonde hair, blue eyes, and a slim figure. She grew up in a wealthy home, never had to work, and attended college. Caroline lived an upper class lifestyle until her father was convicted of financial wrongdoings and lost everything. In contrast, Max has brown hair, brown eyes, and a larger figure and has worked since she was very young. The two girls are waitresses in a run down diner. In addition, the diner is owned by a very short Asian man named Han and the cashier is an elderly black man named Earl. The sitcom follows their lives as they learn how to deal with each other and their lower class lifestyles. Similar to many sitcoms, 2 Broke Girls takes advantage of the diverse ethnic and racial stereotypes of the characters to make comedic entertainment. While the comedy in the show does grab the attention of the audience, what also stands out is the connection of the characters. The complexity of the situation is in the characterization of those traits that were most essential to the viability on land, and whether those traits developed prior to terrestrialization or post terrestrialization. This complexity stems from the long branch of phylogeny leading to terrestrialization having an incomplete fossil record due to environmental changes throughout time. The gold standard hypothesis on terrestrialization introduced by Bower is accepted in the scientific community as the explanation for terrestrial plant diversification of plant orders and families. Bower s hypothesis articulates, that the evolution of antithetic alternating life cycles was instrumental in adapting to the terrestrial habitat. (Harholt et al., 2016) In other words the development of the free living sporophyte and gametophyte was critical to a plants ability to live on land. This information if taken only to mean the diversification of land plant orders and families is accepted by most without question, for the alternating life cycle is imperative to suitability of land plants; however, if Bower intended for his hypothesis to be inclusive of the primordial terrestrialization then his hypothesis has encountered some criticism. This, of course, affects her gender expression, which is explained in depth in paragraph one, but that is something that is huge in her daily life. The Shadows Of Man By Jane Goodall Essay In The Shadows of Man by Jane Goodall Primatology is the scientific study of non human primate behaviors among wild apes, monkeys and other related animals in natural settings or in laboratories by conducting lab experiments and studies on captive primates. A person who studies primatology is a primatologist. There are many reasons for studying primates, but possibly the most significant reason is to learn about the origins of humans. When studying primatology, one can easily observe the behavioral similarities primates share with humans, and probably begin to understand how humans got to where they are today. The reason anthropology studies primates over any other animal is because primates are the closest living relatives to humans. One primatologist, who significantly surpassed many others in her field, was Jane Goodall. Jane Goodall studied the behaviors of primates and other animals as well, but she specifically studied chimpanzees. Goodall in her book, In the Shadows of Man, shared her three groundbreaking discoveries she achieved through her extensive observations and research. Goodall s three major discoveries were the complex social system chimps had lived, the hunting and meat consumption process and the usage of tools. • 40. Lewis God Almighty Chapter 1 Summary Lewis begins chapter two with God Almighty, by questioning the meaning of God s omnipotence. He asserts that God s omnipotence means that God does not have the power to do anything but God does have power to do anything that is consistent with his nature. God has the power to do all that is intrinsically possible, not to do the intrinsically impossible. We may attribute miracles to him, but not nonsense. Lewis then suggests that not even God s omnipotence could create men with free wills without at the same time creating a relatively independent and unavoidable nature. Lewis establishes a universe where free souls can communicate with one another and have free will. That man, possessing this free will, may take advantage of the laws of ... • 42. Globalization And Its Impact On The World The Past Globalization, it could be argued, began when tribes first realized there were other tribes in the surrounding areas. With different specialties and skills, these groups began to trade. While these groups may not have been very geographically separated, the available world was expanding as more and more people groups began to connect and interact. Landmarks in the development of globalization can be traced through history: from the exchange of both goods and knowledge on the silk roads and the discovery of the Americas to the inventions of the steam engine and the telegraph (Free Exchange, 2013). Through these milestones, the world was growing in terms of awareness, but shrinking in terms of ability to travel, trade, and share ideas. In a form that is more recognizable today, globalization began as the world began to open in waves, or rather a tsunami, as Harold Sirkin and his colleagues theorize in Globality. Globality is the next step after globalization; it is the new reality in which companies will be competing with everyone, from everywhere, for everything (Sirkin, Hemerling, Bhattacharya, 2008, p. 1). There are a multitude of factors that have created the conditions for globality to occur. There have been many waves of globalization, like those that brought Japan, Mexico, Korea, and many other nations into the world arena. Unlike these waves of varying size, the tsunami is a series of low, powerful waves caused by an undersea disruption that crash ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Business Administration Online Degree Completion Program I am a senior in the Business Administration Online degree completion program and currently working in the Accounts Receivable department at Fayetteville Technical Community College. I chose to research and write on Duke University Hospital for two reasons. First, my youngest daughter and sister in law were both patients at Duke that received excellent care. My daughter had a pediatric brain tumor and had surgery at Duke in 1999 and my late sister in law had terminal cancer and unfortunately passed away in 2000. They actually were patients at Duke requiring in patient care during the same time period in January of 1999. Second, I am interested in the Administrative processes at Duke. While my daughter received quality care and a great prognosis as she has been tumor free since her surgery, the administrative side of Duke s processes was seriously lacking and I would like to learn more about why this is the case. I have always been interested in the customer service side of any business and the distinction between great and mediocre service. Even though, I currently work in Accounts Receivable, customer contact and information plays a vital role in the performance of my job and the reputation of my organization. Also, I have heard personal accounts of other patients and family members having similar negative experiences with the scheduling, billing and patient information aspects of Duke University Hospital. • 44. Analysis Of The Book The Trojan War A New History Adrian Olivas September 8, 2015 Classics 40 Mr. Smith 4:00 Berry Strauss s The Trojan War a New History Book Review Barry Strauss, professor of classics at Cornell University attempts to redefine a one of history s biggest love affairs, the Trojan War. Strauss explains how certain events and characters from Homers The Odyssey might have actually existed, but also uses modern discoveries from the Bronze Age to compare Homers account to those of Egypt, the Middle East, and etc. While Homer s epic should not be read as a historical document which recounts the Trojan War hundred percent accurately, it can still be seen as document which embodies some historical truth. The novel as a whole explains the customs, economic standing, fighting styles and beliefs of the Greeks. Strauss s writing style allows for the book to be accessible to both students and historians. He argues that just like Franz Ferdinand was the spark which ignited World War 1, Helen on the other hand was just a spark which escalated an existing tension between the Greeks and Trojans. Strauss s personal input on the war itself gives the novel a different outlook on the Trojan War because, it allows for readers to see beyond the facts and make connections with ideas that Strauss had made with recent discoveries and Homers epic. Strauss sectionalizes the book in 11 chapters, excluding the introduction and conclusion, and in each chapter he covers a different aspect of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today, The United States Illustrates Many Circumstances Today, the United States illustrates many circumstances of race in which a group of a given descent is discriminated against solely based on their physical appearance, despite the high demand for equality. Linda Darling Hammond states that the color line divides [populations] still... even in the 21st century and will continue to divide people in future centuries ( Unequal Opportunity: Race and Education ). Some debacles of race include those of a minority population being targeted, however the opposite is true for those trying to become a part of a college or university. To John, the lady was kind and had faith that he would definitely fulfil her clients wishes for an employee without really knowing him, however, to Glen, she nearly immediately lectures him about how laziness is not acceptable and will do him no good, despite the fact that he was John s equal. To show how many instances, big or small, of racism are exhibited, even today, a news article published by CNN, states that 49 percent of blacks and 18 percent of whites believe racism to be a very serious problem ( Poll: Most Americans See Lingering Racism In Others ), particularly in the college admissions process. Similarly, in the college this process, race is a large determiner affecting whether or not a person is going to be accepted into any given university, but on the contrary, whites face the hardship due to their lack of diversity. Whites, particularly males, have a harder time being accepted into prestigious colleges because the colleges have a strong desire for diversity in their student body, creating an easier, less rigorous academic standard for someone of a ...
