Examples Of Poverty In America
Poverty in America: Is the American Dream an Impossible One? America, a land full of promises that
are not granted elsewhere. Recently what many refer to as the American Dream is becoming an
impossible dream. For the reason that, people now cannot get ahead in life financially, students are
having a debt that is holding them back, and medical care is becoming unaffordable. Money seems to
be one of the problems in reaching that dream. Financially, the people are struggling to reach that
dream. According to the Oxford Journals, The middle class has not seen it wage rise in 15 years...the
middle class in this nation is falling . The middle class has fallen ever since a crisis in 2008 that is
making that dream disappear slowly. On top of the middle class having problem the rate of income has
gone up. Profits rose five times faster than wages , was a comment Goldman Sachs said about the
rising of income. In the financial part of the world the American dream is becoming an endless road.

students are leaving with debts. The cost of the colleges and universities has gone up that more and
more students leave with debt. This debt they leave with affects the future of this students. This debts

Patrick Reed Research Paper
The world is infatuated with celebrities and people of power. Whether the person is the President of
the United States or Kim Kardashian, everyone has the dream of having dinner with someone of high
social class. All of the magazine cover in the checkout lane of Publix have pictures of celebrities or
athletes on them. There are so many celebrities that I would like to have a conversation with; however,
the person that I chose to meet is PGA Tour player Patrick Reed. He is my favorite pro golfer and has
been since he turned pro in 2011. He is an amazing golfer and even better person. I want to have
dinner with Patrick because he attended a state college, is a successful PGA Tour player, and was a
member of the Ryder cup team. The first reason why I incline to have dinner with Patrick Reed is that
he attended a state college instead of a Big 10 college with a good golf team. Patrick was able to get
good grades while continuing his golf career at the same time. At the dinner table, I would ask him
how maintained both grades and golf at the same time. Patrick Reed not only maintained his skills
while going to college, but strengthened his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This would give me the opportunity to ask Patrick Reed all about the steps to becoming a professional.
The most important thing that must be asked about his practice schedule. I need to find out what his
practice routine was when he was trying to become a pro and ask if his routine has changed any since
he became a pro. Finding out what his favorite part about being a successful golfer would be a
privilege. Then I desire to ask Patrick what his least favorite part about being a celebrity is. I am going
to ask Patrick Reed what it is like warming up at a PGA Tour event, or ask how it feels to make the

Public Shame, By Hester Pryne During The French Revolution
Public shame was pervasive through its public executions and social upheaval during the French
Revolution. The French Revolution resulted in over 40,000 deaths, many by the guillotine where
citizens would gather around to savor or loathe the decapitation of an accused person. No one could
escape ignominy caused by the malfunctions of the four anarchies. Nevertheless, people were publicly
executed or tortured for many false accusations that ended in complete violence and disruption. The
cost of public shame was futile and if it was not so eminent in the French Revolution, then possibly
there could have been better results. In like manner, the price of public shame is a detrimental thing
that can cause someone to feel so desperate that their only option is to take their life. Over numerous
centuries, there are various forms of public shame that adulterate the confidence of people who are the
victims. Public shame may not include scaffold or guillotine gatherings as it did in earlier eras, but can
be illustrated in social media posts, news, or articles that excessively humiliate a person. The impacts
of public shame are countlessly horrific that they eliminate any possible benefits. Hester Pryne in The
Scarlet Letter was publicly shamed and forced to wear an immense A on her bosom for her sin of
adultery which of course led to people labeling her as the biggest sinner in the world. Rude comments
similarly flowed into a modern day case of adultery with Monica Lewinsky. Her

CASE STUDY ON HURRICANE KATRINA
2
The events leading up to, during, and following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 found the local, state, and
federal levels of government clashing, leading to a chaotic and ineffective governmental response.
During this time, the Department of Homeland Security contained
FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, only a few years after its creation.
However, this was the first major natural disaster the relocated FEMA. This intergovernmental clash
involved a few different major actors, including President George W. Bush, FEMA Director,

Without a qualified leader, the rest of the agency is doomed to being uncoordinated and less
competent overall.
Uncoordinated Response
Perhaps the biggest reason for governmental failure in response to Hurricane Katrina was the inability
for local, state, and federal actors to coordinate effectively. The first step for intergovernmental
involvement was taken by Louisiana Governor Kathleen B. Blanco when she declared a state of
emergency in Louisiana and asked for federal assistance (Stephens
Wikstrom, 2007, p. 248). President Bush followed suit and allowed FEMA to provide assistance and
federal funds. Soon after, New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin ordered an evacuation of all people from
the city, many of whom fled to the Superdome and Convention Center.
The first intergovernmental clash involved the Louisiana National Guard. President Bush had asked to
take control of the National Guard, but Governor Blanco refused. Meanwhile, those in the Superdome
and the Convention Center needed to be evacuated still. While FEMA officials could not agree which
level of government would provide the service, the state National Guard

Explain the Social Learning Theory
Explain the Social Learning Theory, making reference to two relevant studies.
By Tanisha Sabhaney
Behaviouristic theories of learning are essentially theories of conditioning and emphasize the role of
reinforcement in learning. One of the mot predominant theories is Albert Bandura s social learning
theory, which assumes that. People learn through observing others behavior, attitudes, and outcomes
of those behaviors which is called observational learning, that is an indirect form of learning known as
vicarious learning and indirect forms of reinforcement which is called vicarious reinforcement

An example of verbal aggression was, Pow! and Sock him in the nose . After ten minutes the
experimenter entered and took the child to a new room which the child was told was another games
room. In stage two (Aggression Arousal) the child was subjected to mild aggression arousal . The
child was taken to a room with relatively attractive toys. As soon as the child started to play with the
toys the experimenter told the child that these were the experimenter s very best toys and she had
decided to reserve them for the other children. In Stage three the next room contained some aggressive
toys and some non aggressive toys. The non aggressive toys included a tea set, crayons, three bears
and plastic farm animals. The aggressive toys included a mallet and peg board, dart guns, and a 3 foot
Bobo doll. The child was in the room for 20 minutes and their behavior was observed and rated
though a one way mirror. Observations were made at 5 second intervals therefore giving 240 response
units for each child. Other behaviors that didn t imitate that of the model were also recorded e.g.
punching the Bobo doll on the nose. Bandura thus observed children who observed the aggressive
models made far more imitative aggressive responses than those who were in the non aggressive or
control groups. There was more partial and non imitative aggression among those children who has
observed aggressive behavior, although the difference for non imitative aggression was small. The

Women In Marji s Persepolis
Persepolis, a graphic novel enriched by the autobiographical narrative of Marjane Satrapi, covers her
coming of age in the politically unstable Iran in the 1980s. Specifically, the novel concerns defining
events in Marji s character development and in accordance, her ideological perspectives; the Iranian
Revolution followed by the rise to power of the fundamentalist Khomeini (1979), the Iraqi Iranian
War (1980), and personally, her uncle Anoosh s death. Moreover, Marji s contrasting perceptions of
her dynamic and arbitrary world as both as a child and an adolescent are strongly translated into her
portrayal of different social groups: women, fundamentalists, intellectuals (such as Marji s parents),
and others. In particular, there is a strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, Marji s mother is presented to the audience as a revolutionary as she participated in political
protests and her photo was published in all the European newsletters (Satrapi 15). Although Marji
describes her mother s actions in a proud register, her mother is scared of her individuality as women
are encouraged to follow specific norms, and in consequence, result looking and acting similarly. This
idea, in analysis, can be interpreted as an influence to Marji s developing identity and her interaction
with the world. Satrapi deploys visual rhetoric to convey meaning from her black and white images of
the women population, most significantly, when wearing the veil. For example, Marji illustrates the
veiled women in black to have similar properties as they are covered and only their faces are apparent,
in contrast to the protesting women in white that have different hair lengths suggesting different
identities (Satrapi 5). It can be analyzed that Satrapi s use of graphic weight in contrast between the
black veil and the white revolutionaries not only conveys Marji s internal conflict, but also
demonstrates her mother s influence in Marji s opinion on women; the fundamentalist woman versus
the modern woman (Satrapi

Water And Its Effects On Human Activities
Perhaps water is one of the most important elements for both evolution purposes and sustenance of
life on earth. On the other hand, water sustains environment and gives support to the livelihood. It is
good to note that availability of fresh water plays a big role in improving the quality of human life and
overall progress of mankind in various spheres of life that are significantly dependent on it. In
addition, water promotes equality between nations and also between the rich and poor within the same
country. Access to fresh water improves human behaviour which also involves various ways on which
we adopt to the environment. Water that is of good quality is impacted by human activities which in
turn lead to good health implication, economic growth, and poverty alleviation and in all aspects
development. However, there has been high increase in competition for water day after another due to
collapsing of major ecological systems and catchment areas, depletion of ground water areas and
diminishing river flows. Since the time of immemorial water has been a social fabric in various social
systems including in religious ceremonies.

Valjean s Internal Conflict In Les Mise Segarables
Valjean s Internal Conflict
In Les Misérables a storyline of tragedy introduces a character named Valjean who has had a rough
life. From being into prison to living in the streets, he meets a bishop who changed his life. Valjean s
future seems to go smoothly until another character comes into play his parole officer Javert. Javert is
now put into a situation that could either ruin the good in him or the people around him. When
adapting a novel into other mediums, such as a movie or a musical, there are details about internal
conflict that are lost, and potentially added. This is the case when adapting Les Misérables by Victor
Hugo, the song Who Am I? from the musical, and the 1998 film adaptation.
In the novel of Les Misérables Valjean, internal conflict can be seen in a more descriptive form rather
than a visual form compared to the film. Valjean s internal conflict starts off when inspector Javert
brings Monsieur Madeleine who is Valjean news about that the convict Valjean who has been found
and will be put on trial and sent to prison. Valjean fights within himself trying to make the right
decision of either to speak up and take the blame for being the real Valjean or let this innocent man go
to prison for him and live his life with this burden. Valjean can be seen going back and forth in the
novel about if he should turn himself in or stay a free man. He gives reasons why he should not go and
speak up for the innocent man. One of those reasons being The

(Lundberg 2008).Schein is recognized as one of the most influential writers on corporate culture.
Schein interprets the historical factors concerning the origins of cultures through group and leadership
theory (1985: 148 150). As a result, he imposes a preordained structure on to the history of
organizational cultures, namely the story of a founder. As Schultz (1995: 25) points out, rather than
study the specific histories of organizations, Schein invokes psychological theories of the
psychodynamic makeup of leaders (1985: 172). He uses these to paint an idealised picture of how
organizations begin to create cultures through the actions of founders (Schein 1985: 221). This rests
on an assumption that culture and leadership are really two sides of the same coin (Michael Stephen
1999). Modernist believes that there is a positive correlation between organizational performance and
the strength of corporate culture. For them, strong organizational culture is getting people to agree. An
example of modernist perspective organization would be McDonalds. Workers in a McDonald s
restaurant are given a tight job description with clearly defined `movements´, which also includes
guidelines what to say to customers. Modernist therefore, focuses a lot on leader s power on
understanding culture in the organization to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

How Multiprocessing Is The Fastest And Most Reliable Way...
In the computer world, multiprocessing is currently the fastest and most reliable way to create faster

In order to understand the impact of multiprocessors, it is important to understand what they are and
what multiprocessing is. According to _________ Critcklow, author of _______________, the
definition of multiprocessing is independent and simultaneous processing accomplished by the use of

however, __________ Baer, author of ___________, gives another definition of multiprocessing.
According to Baer, The ANSI Vocabulary of Information Processing defines multiprocessing as a
system, broadly, as a system composed of two (or more) processing units under integrated control.
Both definitions though slightly different align showing what multiprocessing truly is; the only
difference is the complexity of their explanations. The computer industry has been using
multiprocessors since computers were first introduced to the public. These were implemented so early
in computers because there are so many advantages using them. Even in the early stages of
multiprocessors, they were still faster than uniprocessors. According to _________ Barney, author of

The Rolls Royce Limited Effect On The Company Essay
In this report we are going to discuss about the Rolls Royce Limited which exports aero engines to
US. In 1978 and 1979 to maintain the export sales and won huge engine contracts Rolls Royce entered
in contracts that were fixed in the dollars. While entering into the contracts exchange rate was about
$1.80 for one pound and expected to fall over $1.65 so they did not cover their dollar cover exposure.
By the end of 1979 £ 1 = $2.12. So Rolls Royce suffered loss of £58 million in 1979 in spite of
increased sales because Rolls Royce s operating costs (wages, components and debt servicing) are
incurred in sterling. Appreciation of home country resulted in foreign exchange risk and economic
exposure. So here in this report we are providing the factors that led to the economic exposure and
inflation affect on the company. We are providing various financial and non financial alternatives that
Rolls Royce should consider while entering in the contract to eliminate or reduce the Exchange risk.

Health Care Reform Law Is Not A Burden On The Medical...
Fraud has many faces and can be found in almost every industry to include Health Care. In all
business aspects, there is always the ten percent that finds a way to conduct business the dishonest
way and therefore rules, regulations and laws are put into place to keep the honest businesses honest
and provide loopholes for those that are conducting business in the gray areas. In the Health Care
Reform Law which was signed into law by President Barack Obama in March of 2010, require health
care providers to return overpayments by Medicare and Medicaid. In the Act, medical health care
providers and suppliers are governed by the stipulations that require them to render repayment from
overpayments within 60 days of being identified along with a written explanation of why the
overpayment is being returned. When a strong and effective compliance program is in place the rules
and regulations of the Health Care Reform law are not a burden on the medical providers.
As research has shown, for providers and medical suppliers who submit bills for payment to Medicare,
Medicaid, manage care organization or any form of a Medicare Advantage plan will eventually
receive an overpayment of some type. (Scheininger Samuel s, 2010). In some cases these
overpayments may in fact be the result of an honest mistake. In other cases some of these
overpayments may be intentional and the result of a health care fraud of scheme. When Medicare and

The And Of The Czech Republic
Introduction
Bury carbon dioxide 100 miles into the Earth and heat it to about 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit. Then
place it under the pressure of 725,000 pounds per square inch and quickly rush towards the earth s
surface to cool. What would that result in? A diamond (Bain Company, 2011 p.3). Otherwise known as
the quintessential token of love and promise. Diamond consumption, particularly diamonds as
engagement rings, is much higher in the United States in comparison to the Czech Republic, due
primarily to better brand development, which we can see in the synonymous nature of diamonds
equating to love, and a stronger, more developed consumerist mentality.
History The word diamond comes from the Greek word adamas meaning adamant or unbreakable. As
mentioned before, the diamond crystals form deep within the mantle of the earth at intense pressures
and temperatures, and then are blasted towards the surface in the course of violent eruptions, which
can be referenced in figure 1. The tradition of giving a ring to the woman who has agreed to become
the bride dates back centuries. Anthropologists believe this tradition originated from a roman custom
indicating their husbands ownership (americangemsociety.org). Worn on the left hand on the finger
nearest to the pinky, it was believed that there lay a vein, the vena amoris, that lead to the heart. This
idea of the vein was popularized by Henry Swinburne in A Treatise of Spousals in 1686

Theme Of Honesty In The Crucible
An unknown speaker once said, A real man will be honest no matter how painful the truth is. A coward
hides behind his lies and deceit. This quote relates to characters in The Crucible, by Arthur Miller,
such as John Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, and Giles Corey. Each person took action and stood up for what
was right. Faced with tough decisions, many characters throughout the play are severely tested by
others in their surroundings because of the ways they lie, the ways they make false accusations, and
the ways that they ultimately die for a cause. At the beginning of the play, Abigail Williams lies to
avoid trouble. She tries to protect her life over the life of others instead of doing the right thing by
being honest about what happened in the woods. She lies multiple times in the play accusing others of
witchcraft, although it was false. When the courts put Abigail to the test to see if she tells the truth, she

An Illustration of State-Society Relations in Turkey Essay...
The Kemalist understanding of the secular and secularism which has characterised the institutional
and legal framework of Turkish society since the foundation of the Republic is tightly linked to the
concept of modernity. A legacy of the Enlightenment, modernisation theses hold that as reason
supplants superstition, religion s influence on society will recede. If Kant held thatt the spread of
knowledge and reason would mean [...] holding religion within the bounds of reason (Benhabib,
2010:452), Weber went further to argue that modernisation would mean dispensing with religion
altogether in the name of modern reason and an emancipated society (ibid). Such approaches were
instrumental to the Kemalist project of Westernisation of Turkish ... Show more content on

It is on this legacy that Mustafa Kemal founded the Turkish Republic in 1923: a centralised secular
nation state. He built upon the secular institutions of the Tanzimat period and did away with the
Islamic ones to foster modernisation (to which secularisation was seen as inseparable). From a
process, secularisation turned into a project; one that would be implemented from above (Yilmaz,
2002:114). So secularism was adopted as one of the founding principles of the Turkish Republic. In
this regard, it needs to be understood with reference to the other five, and particularly to statism,
nationalism, and reformism. While Islam was held responsible for the collapse of the Ottoman empire,
secularism would be key to modernising state and society and to elevating the nation to the level of
contemporary civilisation (Shambayati and Kirdis, 2009:767). Reference to a civilising mission could
hardly be made clearer. By making the state, but also society, secular, the Kemalist project also wants
to create a new national identity. One that would not call upon ethnic or religious affiliation, but on a
secular version of Turkishness. In a Weberian logic, it was assumed that by excluding Islam from the
public sphere, its social significance would gradually erode (Fuat Keyman, 2007:219). Secularism
therefore became the official ideology of the state and the identity of the state elite (Hakan Yavuz and
Esposito, 2003:xxii).
However, Ataturk did not

It s Time to Refresh
A healthy diet that includes fruit is important, as it increases your energy leaving you feeling
refreshed. The artist of this Del Monte image captures the idea of refreshment in this magazine
advertisement for Del Monte s new fruit cups called Fruit Refreshers.
The first thing that grabs your attention in this advertisement is how the image jumps off the page at
you in vibrant detail. The negative space is in black giving the focal point the ability to capture it s
audience s attention the way the fruit cup, centered on the page, is tipped and surrounded by a splash
of liquid like the cup has been tossed into a pool of water. In the upper left corner is the phrase, It s
Time to REFRESH! This simple sentence makes a powerful statement of direction, inviting you to try
their new product. This powerful image is balanced with the addition of a woman sharing her
excitement as she leaps up in a joyful expression of feeling alive and refreshed. The color palette used

The artist gives movement to this woman by using angles and lines appropriately. While the image is
at a standstill, you can see movement in how her arms and legs are elegantly positioned in diagonal
positions. This creates directional movement as her right arm reaches up and her left arm extends
downward and towards the side. He right legs is also positioned in a display of movement how it is
bent at the knee and swinging in front of her left leg. If I were to imagine how this image was to look
in a few seconds of video, I believe the woman is leaping up and proclaiming how refreshed and alive
she feels. She, also, has water splashing away from her upper arm as if she is splashing around in a

Elo Boosting and the Impact it has on High and Low Level Play in League of Legends (Draft 1)
Ranked queue in League of Legends provides competitive players an arena in which they can test and
hone their skills against other like minded opponents and see how skilled they are relative to the rest
of their region and fellow gamers. It is a great environment for players who thrive in a competitive
atmosphere and players of all ranks receive some sort of reward, with larger rewards earned the higher
one s rank is. The most competitive players, who are often the highest ranked, earn prizes often in
cash, gaming hardware worth a significant amount of money or in game currency, glory and possibly
even a career. Unfortunately, there are a good amount of individuals that wish to bypass the trials of
ranked play and attain rewards that they themselves cannot earn. As in any competitive environment,
cheaters will inevitably exist and League of Legends is no exception. Those that do not wish to endure
the stress of ranked or are unable to climb with their own skill will cheat. This form of cheating in
League of Legends, called elo boosting, is highly frowned upon by the community and its developers,
is a punishable offense, undercuts the skill necessary to attain certain ranks and degrades the
sportsmanlike and competitive nature of the game at all tiers and divisions of the game.

The Welfare System Of The United States
In The United States there is the aid that we refer to as the Welfare system. There is usually a very bad
stigma behind the name welfare system but during the 1930 s The Great Depression affected roughly
sixty percent of families who were barely living and it was not because of bad choices. (Jensen, C.,
2014). During The Great Depression the welfare system was a useful tool the many modifications to
the structure over the years has not changed the focus of the systems main focal points.
The Welfare system can be divided into two different classes these would be social and economic
classes. The social aspect includes any plan brought forth to help poverty level members of the
community and asset in there need with financial support. Then there is economic support it is a class
because it is there to aid the society that can sustain themselves and their children due to circumstance
such as adversities, untrained labor ability, and disabilities. In so many situations the older public and
the single this includes the divorced parents may also qualify for assistance. To be given benefits, most
programs require that there be verification of needs that has been evaluated and set at a basic state to
state standard. This is because welfare misuse in the past has made it more difficult and threatened the
reliability of the system. A frequent thing that is used is what is called the means test, which estimates
income and compares individuals to the set standard of living. When a

Religion In The Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer is a number of stories put together. The narrator is the
author himself. The stories are told by pilgrims who are headed to Canterbury to visit the remains of
Thomas a Becket. The character the Host insists that everyone tells two stories. One on the way there
and one on the way back to make the trip less tiresome. There are some important details to
understand when reading the poem. The first one is the values of the people in the middle ages. The
people s values consist of chivalry, feudalism, Thomas Becket and religion. Next is the influence and
expansion of Christianity throughout. The author uses the characters to portray different messages.
And lastly the author s characterization plays a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Roman Catholic Church became corrupt after Thomas Becket died, but he also had a major
impact on the church and the pilgrims. One obvious example is how the pilgrims go on a journey to a
sacred place. His death caused members of the clergy to take unprecedented liberties leading to
corruption in the church. An example of a religious character is the Pardoner. The Pardoner represents
the corruption of the church because he is a dishonest person. The Pardoner says I preach for nothing
but for greed or gain (98). This shows he is only in for the money. It also shows that the relics he sells
is fake. He sells fake relics just to get money from the others. He takes the last coin of an old and poor
widow without any guilt. He also tells a moral story about greed, but yet he is just as greedy. Out
come the penece, and specially for myself, for my exclusive purpose is to win and not at all to
castigate their sin (76 78). This quote shows his greed and shows how corrupt he is to his people.
Chaucer also demonstrates christian aspects through his characters by announcing the monk, nun, and
the friar. All three, are figures that are embodied in a church. Chaucer uses blatant satire in his
characters to show how corrupt the church is. We can tell Chaucer understands the meaning of
Christianity. He uses irony throughout to display the satire and the

Essay about History of Nature and Nurture
Abstract Nature vs. nurture has been discussed by philosophers in the past and by scientists most
recently. Philosophers such as Plato argued that all knowledge was inherited through your parent and
when you were told something you didn t learn it you were just reminded of it. Aristotle however
argued that all humans were born with a blank slate and built on it with influence from there
environment. In the 1700 s the empiricists and the internalists took over the argument. They fought
through letters explaining there point of views and denouncing the others. This leads to Pavlov
coming up with the idea of behaviorism in the early 1900‘s. Behaviorism became the new wave of

Two philosophers, G.W. Leibniz and John Locke, were main representatives of their respected
explanations. Leibniz promoted the internalism point of view. Cowie states, ...Leibniz s position on
this issue is, of course, that the tabula is far from rasa: ‘The soul inherently contains the sources of
various notions and doctrines, which external objects merely rouse up... (Cowie, 1999, p. 7). Leibniz
argued against Locke and other empiricists stated that ...there is no way ideas which come into the
mind from outside can be formed into beliefs and judgments without the operation of specific internal
mechanisms (Cowie, 1999, p. 17). At the same time, John Locke and his fellow philosophers
campaigned for empiricism. Like Aristotle, the philosophers believed that humans thoughts and
actions were determined not by innate factors, but by the their unique experiences (Ashcraft, 1998).
Locke argued against the internalists by examining different human processes such as logic and
reasoning. He would ask how it was possible to use logic and reasoning if people were born with all of
the knowledge they would ever acquire (Cowie 1999, p. 19). The contrasting views of the two groups
had begun the nature vs. nurture debate, which would linger in the fields of philosophy and
psychology for decades. A point should be made that even though the interalists and empiricists felt
strongly about their theories, the

The United Kingdom And The People s Republic Of China...
September 26, 1984 the United Kingdom and the People s Republic of China release the Joint
Declaration, a document detailing the then future handover of the island of Hong Kong and its
surrounding territories from British colonial rule, to rule by the PRC. Exactly thirty years later,
hundreds of students rush over the security barricades of the central government building in Hong
Kong with anger, tenacity, and fear in their eyes. Many are still youths, students from local secondary
schools exercising their disappointment of modern Hong Kong in the only way they believe they can:
protest, beginning a series of events now known as The Umbrella Movement. Four days earlier,
however, hundreds had begun gathering around that building, unhappy with the current political
system in place in Hong Kong, furious at the way the Beijing government of the PRC seemed to be
closing in and suppressing their social and political freedoms. Though the protests were meant to be
relatively peaceful demonstrations, the large collections of people disrupted traffic and business
throughout Hong Kong. Soon Hong Kong police forces were called in to disperse the crowds, and
when protesters refused to leave, the police resorted to the use of pepper spray and tear gas, causing an
uproar among witnesses. In response, to protect themselves from the tear gas, protesters began
carrying umbrellas to use as shields, thus the movement was dubbed The Umbrella Movement. In the

The Effects Of Workplace Violence On The Workplace
According to The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health workplace violence is
described as any physical assault, threatening behavior or verbal abuse that takes place in the
workplace. Violence includes all behaviors ranging in aggressiveness from verbal harassment to
murder. Currently there is no law that requires protection for violence which occurs in the workplace.
However some states throughout the country has reached out to legislation an established prevention
programs. As of today, in 30 states (Florida not being one of them) if found guilty of workplace
violence, employees and patients can be charged with a felony and face increased penalties.
Workplace violence is a highly serious occupational risk, both domestically and globally. Violence in
the workplace accounts for nearly nine hundred deaths and almost two million nonlife threatening
assaults each year. The numbers are expected to be higher. But over the years facilities and nurses
have failed to report occupational assaults. Many nurses believe violence is a part of the job. However,
violence isn t part of a nurses the job description. Workplace violence doesn t always have to be
physical. It varies from offensive behavior, verbal, emotional, physical and unfortunately murder.
Evidence shows, healthcare and social workers are three times more likely to experience violence than
any other professionals. Many nurses may practice in a more vulnerable setting, such as the

Analysis Of Luther The Reformer By Kittelson
Martian Luther
The book Luther The Reformer, by James Kittelson focused on the life, death and work of Martian
Luther. Luther came from humble beginnings, born the son of a peasant. From these humble
beginnings, Luther unintentionally created a revolution within the world of the church and an empire
of Protestantism. Luther was not the person to start this spark nor did he want to create a new religion,
rather his idea was to reform the church , but it was his views that were carried forth and spread. He
was simply in the right place at the right time. Luther created a ripple effect that has shaped religion
into what it is today. Whether we realize it or not, these teaching and views of Luther affect every

key concept in my mind because it sets the stage for why Luther writes what he writes. He takes the
passages in the Bible and examines how they apply to us and our salvation. He evaluates what the
possible implications are for our salvation. This is the fundamental view of the protestant church. It is
the view that the Protestant church has focused on so intently. It is no longer us being told what the
Bible means, but it is us interpreting it for ourselves. It is this thought that has brought us to where we
are today. It has been both beneficial, in terms that the people now have the Bible in their language

The Causes Of Racial Tensions In WWII
Racial Tensions in America WWII America has always been a place of great racial tensions. From
colonial times to the present day, The United States has always been racially contested. However, in
the onslaught of WWII these tensions reached new levels and different levels. Americans came to fear
the Japanese, Japanese Americans, and Mexican Americans. While many believed that these racially
based fears were unjustified, due to the racial ideas already in place, the violence and aggression that
occurred during the war, propaganda, and the government s actions, these fears were not as unrealistic
as they may appear today. During the time leading up to the onslaught of the Second World War, the
Japanese had never been considered much of a threat on the international stage. The Japanese had
stayed unindustrialized and rather primitive until this time. As far as White Europeans were concerned
the Japanese were little men . They were not at all anywhere near comparable to the sophisticated and
racially, economically, morally, and physically superior Whites of the Western Hemisphere (Dower

away. On December 7, 1941 , the Japanese military attacked Pearl Harbor, and continued to have

A Public Health Assessment ( Pre Pha )
SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
In this Preliminary Public Health Assessment (Pre PHA), we evaluated exposure of the Milneburge
neighborhood community to contaminants in response to their public health complaint with the City of
New Orleans. . The homeowners in the neighborhood started to complain of nausea, headache, and
dyspnea when they work in their back yards and reported water runoff and soil erosion from the waste
management site. So, they were really concerned about their children health because they used to play
in the area. As a result of that, we evaluated some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Polycyclic
aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are chemical compounds found in nature or released from burning of
coal, oil, tobacco, and wood. Some of these compounds are toxic to lung, liver, and skin. By such Pre

Canterbury Tales Working Class Analysis
The Canterbury Tales is an abstract showstopper in which the splendid creator Geoffrey Chaucer
searched out to finish different objectives. Chaucer composed his stories amid the late 1300 s. This
puts him comfortable start of the decrease of the Middle Ages. Truly, we realize that a working class
was simply beginning to come to fruition as of now, because of the developing business industry.
Chaucer had the capacity see the significance and future achievement of the working class, and
composed his work considering them. Realizing that the white collar class was not intrigued by
elevated philosophical writing, Chaucer composed his role as a greatly silly and engrossing piece that
would be additionally intriguing to his crowd. Likewise, Chaucer ... Show more content on

The more the planning process facilitate public participation, the more community will be aware of
the planning function as a democratic and community force; 8. Participatory planning, open to radical

These 8 propositions provide a basis from, which to explore the ramification of public participation,
both as a concept and as a decision making technique. The need of public participation in planning is
more clearly expressed by Bolan (1967), No matter how we improve our substantive knowledge of
how cities function, and no matter how we improve our capabilities in information handling,
operations research, and prediction, if there is not a corollary development of community s capacity
for improved decision making within the framework of democratic process, there is the real possibility
that heavy investment in the current forms of city planning techniques will have been in vain. 2.0

14, 1912. The night the unsinkable Titanic struck an iceberg and sank to the bottom of the Atlantic
Ocean. Walter Lord was only ten years old when he first had an interest in what happened the night
the Titanic sank (Holt, Rinehart and Winston). He thought how exciting it would be to investigate all
that went on that night. At the age of ten he talked his parents into taking him on the Olympic, the
sister of the Titanic, so he could learn more about the historic night of when the Titanic did not live up
to its expectations. Mr. Lord tracked down and met with people who was aboard the ship that survived
to ask them questions about the night. He asked questions that varied from what they thought was
happening when the ship hit the iceberg to what all was going on when everyone finally realized they
had to evacuate the ship. According to the New York Times, Walter Lord was born Oct. 8, 1917. He
attended private schools in Baltimore and graduated in 1939 from Princeton University (The New
York Times). Mr. Lord also wrote other books, The Good Years, A Time to stand, The Past That Would
Not Die, Incredible Victory, The Dawns Early Light, Lonely Vigil, The Miracle of Dunkirk, and The
Night Lives On (The New York Times). Mr. Lord was a very well known person, and a lot of people
looked up to him. The New York Times states, In 1994 the Society

Emma s View Of Love
Emma Bovary allows herself to be destroyed by the people she encounters and her obsession with
falling in love. Emma is not happy with herself and her relationship so she looks for other people to
fill the void. Emma never really realizes that she is the root of all of the troubles in her life. If she were
more in touch with reality, she would realize that she needs to work on herself before blaming her love
interests for not being like the men that she has read about in the past. Emma has a very unrealistic
perception of love. Emma is unable to fall in love with anyone because she will always be dissatisfied.
She destroyed her own marriage before it even started because of her preconceived idea of love.
Charles is absolutely in love with Emma and would do anything for her but she does not feel the same
way about him due to her fairytale idea of love. It seems as if she is not capable of separating her real
life romances from the romance novels that she read when during her time at the convent.
In Gustave Flaubert s novel, Madame Bovary, Emma Bovary is unknowingly a slave to her desires.
Emma is so infatuated with the thought of falling in love that it causes her to experience many
problems in every aspect of her life. For example, Emma is married to Charles Bovary, however, she
is not particularly in love with him. Most people get married because they are in love with each other
and want to spend the rest of their lives together. Nevertheless, the thought of spending the

Mothers And Daughters In Eudora Welty s The Joy Luck Club
Perhaps the most intriguing and interesting biographical theme that is repeated throughout the novels
is the traditional mother daughter dynamics and expectations. The importance of family and filial
respect for parents is a crucial part of East Asian culture. The family has and still is often called the
basic social unit in China (Welty 198). In Asian culture children are required to be obedient and
respectful in all cases to their parents (Welty 253). Mother and daughter relationships are an especially
intriguing dynamic because in the traditional cultures, women were often second class and did not
retain much respect. This idea is explored in The Joy Luck Club as Ying ying St. Clair says I know
this because I was raised the Chinese way: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Daughters saw their mothers to be lost in the past. When Thanh is unable to adjust to the American
way of life Mai thinks, But somehow at that moment, my mother imperfect and unable to adjust, died
in my mind (Cao 70). This separation often contributed to the feelings of being lost and unable to live
in harmony. Ying ying St. Clair in The Joy Luck Club reiterates this idea of separation and
misunderstanding as she describes her relationship with her mother as lost, unseen, and unheard (Tan
64). The power in the relationships between mother and daughters, however, is strong and immigrants
can overcome their differences and find restoration and healing. Thanh describes her powerful
connection with her daughter when she writes, It will always be there, of course. Even Mai has
worked her way into accepting that fact, the fact of our connection, strong and steady like the heart s
vascular valves (Cao 169). The conclusion of The Joy Luck Club follows this theme of the
unbreakable bond between mothers and daughters, even when facing the challenges of Asian
assimilation. Jing mei Woo, the daughter who is plagued the most with her unfulfilled duties as a
daughter, travels to China to meet her older Chinese sisters. She describes, Together we look like our
mother. Her same eyes, her same mouth, open in surprise to see, at last, her long cherished wish (Tan
332).

Care For Health Campaign Essay
The care for health campaign was the first family planning promotion to be done in Russia and it
helped increase the use of modern contraceptives by 12%. It was part of the women´s reproductive
health program (WRHP) which involved training of health care providers, advocacy and research.
This intervention resulted in increase in family planning counselling for women, longer continuation
rates of contraceptives and increase in clinic attendance for family planning in the intervention areas.
This program was birthed in 1994 by the US Agency for international development to improve the
health of children and women by promoting the change in the current family planning communication
and service delivery system resulting in a greater ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The objectives of a campaign should resonate with the strategy (Myanmar, 2013). This is the point
where one asks questions such as what do I need to do to achieve the overall goal of the campaign? In
this case, one of the campaign objectives was to increase knowledge and positive attitudes towards
modern contraceptives. In so doing, the campaign would be meeting the overall strategy which was to
bring family planning to the public arena and to highlight its importance.
Choosing an age bracket is also essential as one is able to seclude the target audience in order to make
the campaign strategy more effective. The age bracket for women chosen was 18 30. This was also an
appropriate age since it is the prime age for reproduction.
One of the activities done was to disseminate the family planning message through national television.
The airtime was donated by the prime minister then. This was effective as the message reached
women throughout Russia and the neighboring countries. The campaign also used a disco event to
promote family planning communication.
The second reading (A Mainstream Product Continues to Shed its Taboo Past) is a case study about

history and background of the use of the vibrators. As seen from the reading, hysteria, a female

Marginalization Of Women Analysis
Sometimes, I feel discriminated against, but it does not make me angry. It merely astonishes me. How
can any deny themselves the pleasure of my company? It s beyond me. Zora Neale Hurston
The discourse of investigation into marginalization that involves ethnicity, displacement and gender
began in 1980 and 1990. Marginalization of women, struggles of lower castes and economically
backward communities haunted the nation even after decolonization. Therefore we can say
postcolonial works are the documentary commentaries on poverty, caste, gender discrimination and
oppression. Marginalization of women comprising suffering of different sections found its way into
the literary discourse through the Fourth World .
Women novelists across cultures explore women s position which moves from exaltation,
victimization to self assertion. The creative writings of the colonial and postcolonial women novelists
like Kavery Nambisan, portrays Double ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Mahabharatha, Draupadi had to accept the fate of marrying five men, Gandhari was tricked to
marry a blind king. Kunti had to experience widowhood for no fault of hers besides, there had been
the practice of Sati and related issues in ancient Indian society.
Later the colonial exploitation was in harmony with superior forms of political and economic
organization which encouraged marginalization of women by making them conform to patriarchy. The
concept of naritva was stressed by the nationalist like Gandhi nearly fifty years before the wave of
women s emancipation began and grew as dominant, perilous and insurmountable force but this as
usual was suppressed.
After Independence Indian writers focused on the construction of imaginary communities and
individuals, but the focal point of women writers of twentieth century is the issue of marginalization
of women and a struggle for gender equality (Tharu and Lalitha

Martin Luther And The Christian Church
Martin Luther was an Augustinian monk who believed the grace of God alone would justify fall
humans. Luther one day translated the Bible into German unknowingly beginning the start of a radical
religious revolution. Luther wanted to reform the Christian church of abuses. He wanted to return the
church to its roots of Christianity and take away moderation. Luther believed in the reading of
scriptures and finding the truth from within them. Robert Kolb believed, Luther was filled with the
dynamism that sprang from his spiritual conviction. (267) He believed Luther inspired others to have a
personal relationship with God and to inspire hope. Luther is depicted by many as a friend and a foe.
People took his materials and thoughts and made them into ideas that could be used for their own
purposes. Martin Luther has shaped the institutions and life of Christendom. He influenced his
followers as a churchman and a teacher. Lutheran churches came to think of Luther as a prophetic
hero and authority of faith. Some believed he was a servant of God, a prophet and the eschatological
angel. Followers of Luther set about to change the institutions and ideas that were helping to keep the
world together. Three conceptions of Luther s emerged and grew even beyond his years. First, Martin
Luther was seen as a prophet and becoming the primary authority in the church. Luther made
challenges that brought to light the doubts of the old religious system. Martin Luther and his adherents

Whether the person is the President of the United States or Kim Kardashian, everyone has the dream of having dinner with someone of high social class. All of the magazine cover in the checkout lane of Publix have pictures of celebrities or athletes on them. There are so many celebrities that I would like to have a conversation with; however, the person that I chose to meet is PGA Tour player Patrick Reed. He is my favorite pro golfer and has been since he turned pro in 2011. He is an amazing golfer and even better person. I want to have dinner with Patrick because he attended a state college, is a successful PGA Tour player, and was a member of the Ryder cup team. The first reason why I incline to have dinner with Patrick Reed is that he attended a state college instead of a Big 10 college with a good golf team. • 4. Public Shame, By Hester Pryne During The French Revolution Public shame was pervasive through its public executions and social upheaval during the French Revolution. The French Revolution resulted in over 40,000 deaths, many by the guillotine where citizens would gather around to savor or loathe the decapitation of an accused person. No one could escape ignominy caused by the malfunctions of the four anarchies. Nevertheless, people were publicly executed or tortured for many false accusations that ended in complete violence and disruption. The cost of public shame was futile and if it was not so eminent in the French Revolution, then possibly there could have been better results. In like manner, the price of public shame is a detrimental thing that can cause someone to feel so desperate that their only option is to take their life. Over numerous centuries, there are various forms of public shame that adulterate the confidence of people who are the victims. Public shame may not include scaffold or guillotine gatherings as it did in earlier eras, but can be illustrated in social media posts, news, or articles that excessively humiliate a person. The impacts of public shame are countlessly horrific that they eliminate any possible benefits. Hester Pryne in The Scarlet Letter was publicly shamed and forced to wear an immense A on her bosom for her sin of adultery which of course led to people labeling her as the biggest sinner in the world. Rude comments similarly flowed into a modern day case of adultery with Monica Lewinsky. Her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Lundberg 2008).Schein is recognized as one of the most influential writers on corporate culture. Schein interprets the historical factors concerning the origins of cultures through group and leadership theory (1985: 148 150). As a result, he imposes a preordained structure on to the history of organizational cultures, namely the story of a founder. As Schultz (1995: 25) points out, rather than study the specific histories of organizations, Schein invokes psychological theories of the psychodynamic makeup of leaders (1985: 172). He uses these to paint an idealised picture of how organizations begin to create cultures through the actions of founders (Schein 1985: 221). This rests on an assumption that culture and leadership are really two sides of the same coin (Michael Stephen 1999). Modernist believes that there is a positive correlation between organizational performance and the strength of corporate culture. For them, strong organizational culture is getting people to agree. An example of modernist perspective organization would be McDonalds. Workers in a McDonald s restaurant are given a tight job description with clearly defined `movements´, which also includes guidelines what to say to customers. Then place it under the pressure of 725,000 pounds per square inch and quickly rush towards the earth s surface to cool. What would that result in? A diamond (Bain Company, 2011 p.3). Otherwise known as the quintessential token of love and promise. Diamond consumption, particularly diamonds as engagement rings, is much higher in the United States in comparison to the Czech Republic, due primarily to better brand development, which we can see in the synonymous nature of diamonds equating to love, and a stronger, more developed consumerist mentality. History The word diamond comes from the Greek word adamas meaning adamant or unbreakable. As mentioned before, the diamond crystals form deep within the mantle of the earth at intense pressures and temperatures, and then are blasted towards the surface in the course of violent eruptions, which can be referenced in figure 1. The tradition of giving a ring to the woman who has agreed to become the bride dates back centuries. Anthropologists believe this tradition originated from a roman custom indicating their husbands ownership (americangemsociety.org). This quote relates to characters in The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, such as John Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, and Giles Corey. Each person took action and stood up for what was right. Faced with tough decisions, many characters throughout the play are severely tested by others in their surroundings because of the ways they lie, the ways they make false accusations, and the ways that they ultimately die for a cause. At the beginning of the play, Abigail Williams lies to avoid trouble. She tries to protect her life over the life of others instead of doing the right thing by being honest about what happened in the woods. She lies multiple times in the play accusing others of witchcraft, although it was false. When the courts put Abigail to the test to see if she tells the truth, she fails and drags most of the town down with her. Unlike Abigail, Elizabeth has always been known for her honesty. Ultimately, when Danforth and Hawthorne put her up to the test she fails to tell the truth and kills John. John, attempting to save himself, confesses to witchcraft. The Kemalist understanding of the secular and secularism which has characterised the institutional and legal framework of Turkish society since the foundation of the Republic is tightly linked to the concept of modernity. If Kant held thatt the spread of knowledge and reason would mean [...] holding religion within the bounds of reason (Benhabib, 2010:452), Weber went further to argue that modernisation would mean dispensing with religion altogether in the name of modern reason and an emancipated society (ibid). It is on this legacy that Mustafa Kemal founded the Turkish Republic in 1923: a centralised secular nation state. He built upon the secular institutions of the Tanzimat period and did away with the Islamic ones to foster modernisation (to which secularisation was seen as inseparable). From a process, secularisation turned into a project; one that would be implemented from above (Yilmaz, 2002:114). So secularism was adopted as one of the founding principles of the Turkish Republic. In this regard, it needs to be understood with reference to the other five, and particularly to statism, nationalism, and reformism. While Islam was held responsible for the collapse of the Ottoman empire, secularism would be key to modernising state and society and to elevating the nation to the level of contemporary civilisation (Shambayati and Kirdis, 2009:767). Reference to a civilising mission could hardly be made clearer. By making the state, but also society, secular, the Kemalist project also wants to create a new national identity. One that would not call upon ethnic or religious affiliation, but on a secular version of Turkishness. In a Weberian logic, it was assumed that by excluding Islam from the public sphere, its social significance would gradually erode (Fuat Keyman, 2007:219). Secularism therefore became the official ideology of the state and the identity of the state elite (Hakan Yavuz and Esposito, 2003:xxii). However, Ataturk did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The stories are told by pilgrims who are headed to Canterbury to visit the remains of Thomas a Becket. The character the Host insists that everyone tells two stories. One on the way there and one on the way back to make the trip less tiresome. There are some important details to understand when reading the poem. One obvious example is how the pilgrims go on a journey to a sacred place. His death caused members of the clergy to take unprecedented liberties leading to corruption in the church. An example of a religious character is the Pardoner. The Pardoner represents the corruption of the church because he is a dishonest person. The Pardoner says I preach for nothing but for greed or gain (98). This shows he is only in for the money. It also shows that the relics he sells is fake. He sells fake relics just to get money from the others. He takes the last coin of an old and poor widow without any guilt. He also tells a moral story about greed, but yet he is just as greedy. Out come the penece, and specially for myself, for my exclusive purpose is to win and not at all to castigate their sin (76 78). This quote shows his greed and shows how corrupt he is to his people. Chaucer also demonstrates christian aspects through his characters by announcing the monk, nun, and the friar. All three, are figures that are embodied in a church. Philosophers such as Plato argued that all knowledge was inherited through your parent and when you were told something you didn t learn it you were just reminded of it. Aristotle however argued that all humans were born with a blank slate and built on it with influence from there environment. In the 1700 s the empiricists and the internalists took over the argument. At the same time, John Locke and his fellow philosophers campaigned for empiricism. Locke argued against the internalists by examining different human processes such as logic and reasoning. He would ask how it was possible to use logic and reasoning if people were born with all of the knowledge they would ever acquire (Cowie 1999, p. 19). September 26, 1984 the United Kingdom and the People s Republic of China release the Joint Declaration, a document detailing the then future handover of the island of Hong Kong and its surrounding territories from British colonial rule, to rule by the PRC. Exactly thirty years later, hundreds of students rush over the security barricades of the central government building in Hong Kong with anger, tenacity, and fear in their eyes. Many are still youths, students from local secondary schools exercising their disappointment of modern Hong Kong in the only way they believe they can: protest, beginning a series of events now known as The Umbrella Movement. Four days earlier, however, hundreds had begun gathering around that building, unhappy with the current political system in place in Hong Kong, furious at the way the Beijing government of the PRC seemed to be closing in and suppressing their social and political freedoms. Though the protests were meant to be relatively peaceful demonstrations, the large collections of people disrupted traffic and business throughout Hong Kong. Soon Hong Kong police forces were called in to disperse the crowds, and when protesters refused to leave, the police resorted to the use of pepper spray and tear gas, causing an uproar among witnesses. In response, to protect themselves from the tear gas, protesters began carrying umbrellas to use as shields, thus the movement was dubbed The Umbrella Movement.
