Fdi Drawbacks
Arguments against FDI in Retail in India 1. Predatory Pricing With its incredibly deep pockets
Wal Mart will be able to sustain losses for many years till its immediate competition is wiped
out. This is a normal predatory strategy used by large players to drive out small and dispersed
competition. This entails job losses by the millions. 2. Labour Displacement Another factor is that
it can only expand by destroying the traditional retail sector. Till such time we are in a position to
create jobs on a large scale in manufacturing, it would make eminent sense that any policy that
results in the elimination of jobs in the unorganised retail sector should be kept on hold. If we
assume 40 mn adults in the retail sector, it would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wal Mart has a clearly defined anti union policy aimed at preventing its work force from gaining
any collective bargaining power which could result in increased wages, covered health benefits
and job security. 10. As per International Farm Comparison Network (IFCN) data, milk producers
in the US got only 38 per cent share of the consumer s dollar spent on milk, while the rest was
earned by the processor and retailer. In the United Kingdom, the milk producers got only 36
percent. However, in India, the milk producer gets more than 70 per cent of the consumer s
rupee on an average. Moreover, the milk producer affiliated to co operatives get more than 80
per cent share of the consumer s rupee. In the US, the farmer s share in the consumer s price has
declined from 52 per cent in 1996 to 38 per cent in 2009, while in the UK it has declined from 56
per cent in 1996 to 38 per cent in 2009. This decline clearly demonstrates that the milk producers
suffer when the share of organised retail increases. 11. If we take the total retail sales in India to
be Rs. 312180 crore approximately (which is around 11% of India s GDP at factor cost at
current prices in 2004 05), turnover per employee for the Indian retail sector comes to around Rs.
78045 (taking total employment of 4 crore). In contrast, the turnover per employee for Wal Mart

Altruism Or Self-Interest Research Paper
Citizenship: altruism or self interest?
What does it mean to be a citizen? Or what does it mean to be a republican citizen? Every thinker
will give a different definition to the concept of citizenship through history. Sometimes their
definition will nuance just slightly. In the classical definition of citizenship, Aristotle and some
other thinkers see the citizen as an active, political being (P35). An active citizen is the one who
will get involved in the activities of her or his community. In the self govern republic, the citizen
will get involve in the political life. However, the political requires some sacrifice, at least one
has to dedicate her or his time at the expenses of his personal life. In fact, Dagger suggests states
that the citizen has to be prepared to [...] set aside their private interest when necessary for the
public as a whole (P17). Many will interpret this as a need for the citizen to sacrifice his personal
interest for others, the community. Therefore, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Dagger, the republican conception acknowledges that even the good citizens should
not forsake self interest altogether (P19). How does it work then? How can you be very active in
your community and still be able to aim your own goal? Tocqueville will explain that they go
together. He stated that paying taxes, serving on jury, obeying the laws and attending public affairs
require time [...], but such sacrifices are necessary if we want to preserve republican government
and continue to enjoy the rights of the citizens. In other words, the citizens know they have to
seek the good for their community because this will also allow them to achieve their personal
goal as well. They will participate in the government, they will participate when it comes to make
law because they want to protect their right of self govern. Also, they will obey to these laws
because this is the only way to preserve their own

Character Response To The Burden Of A Guilty Conscience
1.Choose one of the following characters: Waregrave, Vera, Macarthur, Lombard. In a paragraph,
discuss the character s response to the burden of a guilty conscience. You must include a quote to
support your analysis.

to visit Soldier Island. Vera Claythorne is a former governess who us working as a games mistress

Motifs are recurring structures; contrasts or literary devices that can help develop the text s major
themes. In a paragraph, explain how these both function as motifs in the novel. Be sure to also
explain the effect these motifs have on the characters.
a.The recurring motifs of the poem and the soldier figurines correlate together in the novel And
Then There Were None. The poem Ten Little Soldiers guides the plot in its direction and directs
the next murder. In the beginning of the novel there were ten soldier figurines on the dining
room table. However, every time someone was killed, by the way described in the poem, one of
the figurines would be removed. Rogers was the first one to notice the start in this trend. After the
death of his wife and Anthony, Rogers nervously tells Dr. Armstrong There s only eight, sir! Only
eight! It doesn t male sense, does it? Only eight ... (106). The poem plays a powerful affect on Vera
Claythorne the most. She gets so caught up in the poem that she even kills herself to fulfill the last
line.
3.How does Agatha Christie break the rules of a traditional detective story ?
a.In a traditional detective story, there is a crime that is committed and a detective comes and

Merck River Blindness
Merck and River Blindness (Onchocerciasis)
In understanding the decision Merck made to donate medicines, we need to start by understanding
the motivations and core values behind the company that undertook the actions. We can get some
insight into these by examining and understanding their company mission statement:
The mission of Merck is to provide society with superior products and services, innovations, and
solutions that improve the quality of life and satisfy customer needs to provide employees with
meaningful work and advancement opportunities and investors with a superior rate of return.
Analysis of the mission statement identifies several Merck stakeholders and what Merck envisions

If his company had not acted on his information, after he challenged all the way to the upper most
board member or investor community, he would have been morally obligated to take his
information to another company or to the public for others to develop.
Because the company is donating these drugs and has made the donation public, it should follow
that the consumers for their other drugs understand that there is some residual increase in costs
to them for other drugs in order to pay for those donations. From a business point of view, Merck
is probably taking every possible measure to reduce the overhead costs of production but at the
end of the day, all they are really donating are the compounds used to formulate the drugs, whatever
minimal packaging has been the least costly and most effective, and a willingness to accept
possible future liability if their drug backfires on them with unforeseen side effects. It would be
unreasonable to assume that they will operate at a complete loss for this donation.
My personal reaction to having to contribute towards or pay for some part of the drug would be
feeling as if I am doing my part in the eradication of river blindness by using Merck drugs. If I
were Merck, I would even market my other products with that information so that consumers can
also share in the sense of good that they provide by using Merck drugs. I don t think there would be
anything morally wrong with capitalizing on this

Essay On Learned Helplessness
The Effects of Uncontrollable and Unpredictable Events on Anagram Solving Learned helplessness
(LH) is related to behavior and psychological disorders found in humans and animal containing the
potential to affect their health negatively. This is often associated when an individual experiences
a sense of powerlessness after being in similar circumstances repeatedly and begins to feel as a
consistent failure. An analysis was made to examine the effects of uncontrollability and
unpredictability behaviors in an anagram task (Winefield Tiggemann, 1978). Psychologist Seligman
had accidentally discovered this concept of learned helplessness while conducting a study on dogs
that were expected to receive an electrical shock after hearing a tone. This phenomenon learned
helplessness has been hypothesized as the process to acquire knowledge from the expectation

In addition, people would overall find the task hard, will become frustrated and will not be able to
complete the task in one minute. Two evaluations were taken in the anagram performance that
collected the data for the number of fail attempts to solve the anagrams and the mean of responses
potential (Henderson Lohr, 1982). The individuals responses to the questionnaires were more
affected negatively than positive. Participants were mostly frustrated by having to solve the
anagram. Even though there wasn t a time limit, the participants felt as if they didn t meet the one
minute rule and felt as if they weren t smart enough. As mentioned by Harris Tryon (1983), they
implicated the nature of the instructions as an important variable for producing response deficits
and the different effects should result from telling a subject (correctly or incorrectly) that he or she

William s Monologue
William felt the ever so soft caress of her fingers across his nametag. A thud the equivalent of the
deep, concussive boom of fireworks unleashed during the grand finale of a July 4th cascade
pounded in his chest. William s knees turned to Jell O. He stumbled backwards into the table and
managed to steady himself without upending the entire array of refreshments. A piece of half eaten
miniature carrot caught in his throat. William coughed in a reflexive fit, but the burst of air failed
to dislodge the meddlesome vegetable from his throat. Terror gripped William as the once easy
breathes refused to traverse the carrot. The panic intensified when the specter of someone giving
him the Heimlich maneuver in front of this exotic woman materialized in his mind. William
punched his chest with his right fist, buckled over, and coughed violently. The carrot dislodged and
launched from his mouth, landing with a wet thwack on the floor next the woman s high heeled foot.

William struggled to steady his breath. His eyes burned with tears. Oh, uh, yeah, I m fine.
Wrong tube, William stammered. Here, take a sip of water, the woman said, extending her half

Evian bottle glistened with peach flavored lip gloss. William slurped from the bottle; the sweet
nectar of peaches flowed with the refreshingly cool water across his tongue and down his throat.
He drank as though he had just marched across Death Valley without a canteen, his tongue working
violently at the bottle, desperately chasing the sweet nectar that once adorned the woman s lips.
The water disappeared from the bottle in three gigantic swigs. William lowered the bottle and
exhaled. You sure you re alright? The woman asked. Yes, William answered, forcing the words
from his mouth. Come on. Let s sit

The progressive era in the United States is associated with political reforms and social change.
During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the United States power was experienced across the globe.
Business firms experienced immense growth making some owners excessively rich. On the other
hand, the American people experienced unhappiness owing to some problems at home. Workers in
the huge corporations did not experience considerable changes in their lives. Employees were
subjected to severe working conditions, which were exposed by muckrakers among other people.
Railroad charges for shipping crops were very high, which gave farmers immense problems.

Sinclair exposed the presence of insects and rats in meat packing plants, which could have a
significant effect on people s health. Some individuals in the federal government knew of the
conditions in such plants but made no interventions. However, the publishing of the book The
Jungle caused pressures from authorities, including President Roosevelt, which led to the enactment
of the Meat Inspection Act. Other writers, such as Ida Tarbell, exposed unethical business
competition techniques, such as that of the Standard Oil Company, which pushed competitors from
the market.
The unhealthy living conditions in the overcrowded slums were also exposed by writers. The
New York s Wall Street was also targeted by some writers as few individuals controlled the flow
of money in the entire nation. These writers were referred to as muckrakers. President Roosevelt
compared them to people raking up the muck without doing any good (Cocks, Holloran, Lessoff,
2009). However, the muckrakers are recognized for exposing the ills that threatened to damage the
United States society. The works of such writers also stimulated policymakers to seek alternative
ways of doing things. Muckrakers played a significant role in exposing scandals, corruption, and
wastes, which could not have detected by the general population.
Child labor was also an issue that attracted immense interests during the

Laboratory Test (1) Stool for Occult Blood
Normal findings: A normal finding would be no occult blood in the stool sample provided by the
patient.
Explanation: A stool for occult blood test is used to determine if there is blood in the stool. Most
times a patient cannot always see if blood is present in their stool so this test would be performed
to rule out positive findings. Blood usually will pass in such small amounts that the only way to be
sure is with the chemical that is used in an occult blood test.

In Giacomo s case, like most actors in the business today, he has a varied and solid body of
works within his repertoire, and I could have easily asked him about any number of his movies
and shows, and I am convinced I would have sensed the same kind of zeal and positivity in his
answers. While I always relish the responses of my interviewees, I derive immense satisfaction
from actors who view every film and show in an optimistic light, tied to specific and pleasant
memories. While I m not naive enough to believe that every single role is a dream come true nor

Although, sometimes our minds can get away from us with absent mindedness. This occurs when
we do not pay enough attention to a bit of information when we should be encoding it; it often
occurs when our attention is divided. For example, we may get distracted while walking a dog by a
butterfly or a strange noise and with this distraction, it can cause our attention to stray from the
dogЕ› surroundings to that object. If this occurs, the dog may escape from our grasp and into
possible danger like traffic. But ARC does have rules that may prevent this even with absent
mindedness; walkers have to have the leash around their wrist and in their hands to prevent
runaway dogs. Absent mindedness can also occur in a less dangerous matter. It could occur when
cleaning kennels. Since we are so used to cleaning the same kennel walls every week, we may
space out while hosing down the walls or spraying solution to sanitize them. Because at that point,
we are just going through the motions.
These routine motions are called algorithms. Algorithms are defined as step by step procedures
or methods that always produce the correct solution; a routine. The algorithm for the dog
kennels at ARC are actually very simple, but critical for the building and the dogs. For cleaning

The Theory Of Behavioral Finance
1. Introduction
Efficient market hypothesis had been a topic of significant interest to the academicians,
practitioners and the corporate executives for a long period. Under Eugene Fama s(1965) survey, it
is reflected that there is a turning point of the modern finance by efficient market hypothesis.
However, there had been a shift in the focus to the theory of behavioral finance (Shiller, 2003)
recently. Behavioral finance is the financial structure which supplements various parts of finance
(Gallagher, 2003). It is the module which supports and displays the behavior of the investment
managers and assists in the overall process of management. Therefore, behavioral finance is a
unique art which is required to be selected in order to understand the outcomes of interactions
between the investment managers and the corporates. Given this background, this essay examines
how the behavioral finance has challenged the efficient market hypothesis and the implications of
behavioral finance for investment managers.
2. Definition and concept of efficient market hypothesis
According to Eugene Fama s (1970), with the rise in the information, there is rapid spreading of the
information which is immediately incorporated in the security prices. This is called the efficient
market hypothesis and it is associated with random walk theory. The random walk theory which
suggests the randomness of changes in a series of price forms the basis of efficient market
hypothesis. Thus, the

death, El Santo is still an icon of Mexican popular culture. Even though the comic book that
originally facilitated him to gain an enormous celebrity status is long gone, his films are still

Huerta would go on to be the most celebrated wrestler in lucha libre. Santo is featured in 54 films,

The Killings And Destruction Of Cultures Throughout The...
History is told in many different ways, and the truth that lies in the stories told, can sometimes be
blurred by different perspectives. Comparing four cases of genocide which formed in the United
States, Australia, British India and German Southwest Africa, allows for a better comprehension of
genocide as defined by the UN Convention. The four cases raise question as to why we can
consider the cases to be genocide, and what similarities and differences each case has.
Considering the UN definition , I acknowledge all but the British Indian case to be genocide.
There are multiple similarities between the mass killings and destruction of cultures in the US,
Australia, and German Southwest Africa, which align with the classification of genocide, but in
the case of British India, it doesn t align. Using The Historiography of Genocide by Dan Stone,
Victoria s Ghost by Mike Davis, To Kill A People by John Cox and Genocide by Adam Jones, I
will articulate arguments about the genocides found in each case.
In the year 1608, pilgrims arrived to Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts where Indians fed them and

Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Pros And Cons

convincing, very painful claim over this land and another no less powerful, no less convincing

hotbed for controversial opinions and arguments. One pressing issue in today s time is whether or
not the United States should continue to support what seems like a never ending conflict. The
United States Government should continue to pressure Israelinto a two state solution in order to

As the world becomes more industrialized and interdependent, the need for good relations in
areas increases, especially with countries near Israel. The Middle East is becoming a more
prominent player in global relations today, making their alliance extremely valuable to those
who have it. The United States relationship with countries in the Middle East is a pressing topic
as terrorism in this region grows. By pressuring Israel into creating two states, the United States
can help decrease the hostile relations between them and countries Palestine is allied with, which
include Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan among many other arab nations. According to Chas W.
Freeman of the Middle East Policy Council, our main conflict with the arab states stems from
our alliance and support of Israel while they continue to oppress Palestinians. Thus, two states
would lead to a relaxation in these relations. As discussed in the paragraph above, two states
would also lead to the creation of the first two democracies in the Middle East. Through shared
political views, relations in the area will improve as well. Therefore, the pressure of the United
States to create two states will boost relations with countries in the Middle East, which is vital in

The Animal Of The Zoo
Many zoos around the world have captive breeding programs in which they take animals from
the wild and breed them in captivity and the offspring of these species become the entertainment
of the public. Seeing the new panda bear cub exhibit can bring major business to the zoos, but
when the new set of cubs arrive what is to be done with the old cubs? When there is no profitable
use or need for an animal in the zooit is considered a surplus. Surplus animals, if they re lucky, will
be transferred to another program that need more of that particular species. Most of the time,
however, the zoo will cull the extra animals. Also, when a zoo feels as though the social
structure of an animal family is crumbling, many zoos will cull any extra babies or euthanize the
troublemakers. It is considered Zoothansia. According to One Green Planet, U.S. zoos favor the
use of contraception to limit the number of unwanted pregnancies amongst animals, however in
Europe, killing surplus animals is standard practice . Recently, there was a very public culling of
a giraffe names Marius in the Copenhagen Zoo. The zoo has determined that Marius s traits were
too common in the breeding pool he was in so he was considered useless. Marius, the 18 month
old giraffe, was culled in front of a group of students visiting the enclosure. This sent an uproar
through the animal rights movements as well as the general public simply because the giraffe could
have been transferred to another zoo rather than

People build fences to keep intruders out and to keep their house safe. When August Wilson
wrote Fences all the characters had different reasons on why they wanted to build a fence or try
to get out of the fence. In the story, the fence can also be seen as symbolic of the the things Troy
wants to keep out the things that are different. In the dialogue between him and Cory, Cory said
Tell mama I ll be back for my things. and Troy say, They ll be on the other side of that fence

that separates them from one another. Rose wanted a fence built to keep her familyin and other

The Importance Of Japanese Culture And Society
In societies across the world, religion has always had the ability to unite the people into
communities through its rituals and celebrations. Japanese society is a major example of how
people can join together as a community to celebrate their unique beliefs. However, this would then
often raise the question of which came first; the close knit community who started the religion, or
the religion that jumpstarted everything and brought people together. The truth of the matter is, if
one were to look at Japanese culture and society, it is rather apparent that ancient religions such as
Buddhism and Shintoform rituals and traditions which would then later shape the ceremonies that
the community partake in. These ceremonies are essentially festivals that villages put together to
show respect and acknowledgement for a certain religion or an important event. Festivals are done
with the most dedication among everybody in a villageor town, and it is this dedication that proves
how important festivals are to the community. Essentially, the religion is the driving force behind a
culture s communal bond, and it is the festivals such as the Kenka Matsuri, Namahage Matsuri, and
the Gion Matsuri that are physical representation of this union. However, these religious festivals
have proven to lose its religious background and tradition and start to converge into a celebration of
the community itself. A very well known festivalthat Japan usually takes pride in is the Kenka
Matsuri, or also

Vineland is set in California in 1984, the year of Ronald Reagan s reelection. The story details the
free spirit of rebellion of that decade through flashbacks by its characters. The novel describes the
traits of the fascistic Nixonian repression and its War on Drugs that occurred in U.S. society from
the 1960s to the 1980s. The central quest is that of a daughter for her absent mother, and while the
process by which the two are united involves an impressive accumulation of information about
international corporate practices and structures, the history of the Left in California, the effects of
Reaganomics and the War on Drugs, and the popular culture of the 1980s, there are no

The tension between satisfying our credulity and satisfying our skepticism, as David Lodge puts
it differently energises each of Fowles s first three novels. Realism can also be seen as an
ancestrally impure and precautious synthesis of history, romance and allegory; and from this
point of view character is the problematising of the relations between its consistent parts that
characterize much contemporary British fiction including Fowles s. The formal agony and
hesitation co exist; with immense formal energy and inventiveness in problematic fictions such
as Doris Lessing s The Golden Notebook, Augus Wilson s No Laughing Matters and differently
in Iris Murdock s The Black Prince as well as Fowles s The French Lieutenant s Woman. These
novels carry the currently inescapable and romance theories of insubordination. They leave the
reader as Lodge has suggested with a paradox about the relations between art and life. The reality
principle is never allowed to lapse entirely indeed, it is often involved to expose the artificiality of
conventional realistic illusion....This kind of novelistic, I am talking about referring a loyalty to

Andy Warhol Pop Art Era
Andy Warhol , was one of the most iconic painters to date. Known for his unconventional takes
on images varying from Marilyn Monroe to soup cans, his love of bright colors and bold patterns
brought these images to life and helped pave his way as a major figure in the pop art movement.
His work really set the tone of the Pop ArtEra. It pulled in a lot of pop culture and always made
some kind of statement, whether noticeable or not contrary to the previous generation. For
example, when Andy was discussing his Campbell s Soup Cans painting he said I used to drink
it. I used to have the same lunch every day, for 20 years, I guess, the same thing over and over
again. Which can really tell you how times were back then, he was a child of poverty just like
many people in that time period.
His parents were immigrants to the United States, Pavol and Julia Warhola by way of the Czech
Republic, on August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was one of three sons, his brothers
names , John and Pavol Warhola. Around the age of 8 Andy was un fortunately diagnosed with

drawing lessons. So you could kind of say it was a bittersweet occurrence that he contracted the

The Rise Of The Crusades
The crusades was a very important thing in history that not only affected the Western era, but the
entire world. The crusades can be the event that is accredited with the way that society looks at
holy wars or wars of religion. Reasons for the crusades are the threat that the Turks presented to
Christian territories, massive spread of Christianity, and for pilgrimage (completing God s will).
The Turks presented a huge threat to Christians. Muslims were set out on conquest of Christian
territories. Although the Byzantium s were able to hold on important regions Greece and Asia
Minor the Turks did capture much of Byzantium land. To add to all of this the Turks destroyed
some churches ... and seized pilgrims. (page 6) Of coarse the Byzantium was not okay with this.
Pope Gregory VII made plans early in 1074 to ride up against the Turks. He saw the Byzantium
invasions as the perfect opportunity to employ Europe s warriors in the service of God. (page 6)
The spread of Christianity can partly be credited to Pope Urban II. Pope Urban II lifelong goals
was to reform the Catholic Church. In 1095 Alexius I Comenus was in battle with the Turks and
requested aid to help him defeat them. This request was just what Pope urban II needed so that he
could follow his goal. Pope Urban II created the Council of Clermont on November 27, 1095. He
called that the Christians stand up and fight together for the freedom of other Christians. Pope
Urban II said, The Christians in ... of Muslim rule.

Jonathan Edwards Role In The Constitution Of The Five Nations
The Role of Nature in the Iroquois League and Jonathan Edwards work Emilee N. McFalls
Carolinas College of Health Sciences ENG 231
Nature plays a major role in not only the Iroquois League but also in Jonathan Edwards work.
When it comes to the Iroquois League s Constitution of the Five Nations, their references of nature
seem to serve as a way to connect humans with the natural world. For Edwards, he used nature a
bit differently. He used nature in his sermons to give his congregations a better picture of the
images he was trying to convey. The Constitution of the Five Nations uses images of nature all
throughout the Binding Laws. There are references to trees and even animals. Roots have spread
out from the Tree of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He used symbols of nature to better convey his message of Hell to both believers and non
believers. Edwards used images of fire, water, wind, clouds, spiders, and snakes in order put
some fear into the hearts of his audience. The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as
one holds a spider or some loathsome insect over the fire, abhors you and is dreadfully provoked;
His wrath towards you burns like fire; He looks upon you as worthy of nothing else but to be
cast into the fire; He is of purer eyes than to bear to have you in His sight; you are ten thousand
times more abominable in His eyes than the most hateful and venomous serpent is in ours.
(McMichael Leonard, 2011, p. 162) Within this passage alone, it is evident that Edwards used
nature all throughout his sermon. When explaining God s wrath, Edwards compares the wrath
to water. The wrath of God is like great waters that are damned for the present, they increase
more and more and more, and rise higher and higher, till an outlet is given; and the longer the
stream is stopped, the more rapid and mighty is its course when once it is let loose. (McMichael
Leonard, 2011, p. 161) Often, when water is used as a symbol it is meant to show a cleansing
effect. Whether he was using the symbol of water to show that the salvation that can come from
God alone can cleanse our dirty hearts, or if he was leaning more towards the image of Noah and
the Ark when God completely wiped out the entire human population. Granted, God did promise
that he would never flood the earth again. Whichever image Edwards was leaning towards, his
audience still got the point that he was trying to make. Edwards knew what He was doing when he
preached this sermon. He felt that it was appropriate to put the fear of God into his congregation
and basically scare them into

Human trafficking suggests the selling and purchasing of humans as property. In order for human
trafficking to be successful it requires at least two willing participants, one who is eager to sell and
one who is eager to buy. Every year, somewhere around 600,000 and 800,000 individuals are
trafficked internationally, as indicated by the U.S. Bureau of State. These numbers include men,
women, and children. But these numbers do exclude individuals that are trafficked inside the same
countries they live in. People are bought, sold and traded constantly in the world of human
trafficking. Trafficking can be put into different categories. There are different types of trafficking.
Although, the three most common are sex trafficking, forced labor and debt bondage. There are a
few laws set up to battle human trafficking, both on a national and international scale. More efforts
from law enforcement agencies, human rights organizations, women and children s rights
organizations can help stop human trafficking. Law enforcement agencies can concentrate on
trafficking as an infringement of criminal laws, the human rights system concentrates on trafficking

Developmental Theories, Erikson And Freud Essay
What is development? Development is A progressive increase in the function of the body.
(growth and development book) As a nurse it is vital to understand what development means
and how people develop, especially children. In this essay I will talk about two very important
developmental theories, Erikson and Freud. In addition, compare their similarities and their
differences. Erikson was a psychologist who was greatly influenced by Freud. Although
influenced by Freud there are some differences in there developmental stages. Erikson believed
that development in an individual was molded by society, culture, and environment. While Freud
s belief was that development is in some way is influenced by the fixation of sexual interest of
different areas of the body. The stages in Erikson s development theory outline how important
social experiences can shape us. While Freud s theory is mainly based on ones sexuality.
Additionally the other significant difference between Erikson s and Freud s theories is the
outcome of a particular stage. Erikson believed that the outcome of a certain stage was not
permanent and that it could be changed later on in life. While Freud presumed that if an individual
became fixated on a stage problems associated with that stage would be carried on through life. On
the other hand, there are many similarities between the two developmental theories. Both Erikson
and Freud believed that each task must be completed or the conflict must be resolved in

The Colonies Of The United States Essay
In the 1607, the Virginia Company sent three ships over to America in search of finding gold and

After the land had failed to produce gold or silver, the Virginia Company began to sell the land for
property which started the colonization of what is to start the spark of the thirteen colonies. Great
Britain began to colonize in the present day United States of America by creating the Thirteen
Colonies. The colonies, which can be divided into three separate regions: Northern, Middle, and
Southern, have been formed by different groups of people who have helped to shape the region
which they belong to. Colonist came over in search of many opportunities. Opportunities to find
new jobs and religious freedom gave the colonist hope while travelling across the Atlantic. The
cultural blend that made up the colonies led to different colonies to form amongst them. The
geographical characteristics of the colonial regions helped shape what the colony is most beneficial
for. The northern colonies consist of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New

Religion At The University Of Dayton
As a private, religious institution, the University of Dayton requires students to obtain an education
that includes religion courses. This can be seen as advantageous in the eyes of society, further
preparing young adults for the future. The academic study of religion at the University of Dayton is
beneficial to American society because it educates, enlightens, emphasizes the university s mission,
and aids students in their future endeavors.
Because of the diversity amongst the university s student population, some of the information

According to William Portier, they learn about the groundbreaking events for each religion, such as
the Passover meal, the eucharist, [and] the pilgrimage to Mecca (Portier 53). The text What Do

Merchant Of Venice Theme Analysis
The Merchant of Venice
Question:
The Merchant of Venice was a play about a Jewish moneylender who plots to cut off a pound of
flesh from a Merchant whom he has a history with. Revenge was the central theme of Shakespeare s
play The Merchant of Venice . However, there are other themes throughout the text, namely
friendship and prejudice, that help to emphasise revenge as the central theme of the play.
Revenge is an integral part of the play and characters in the play. Revenge is what drives Shylock,
seeking to obtain revenge on Antonio. In a way, Jessica seeks revenge for the hell that her father
made at home. In Venice, during the time of Shakespeare, Jews were not seen as humans. They
were alienated for their beliefs and due to the belief that Jews were responsible for the death of
Christ. As a result of this alienation, Jews were forced to wear red hats whenever going out,
which made them ripe for the picking for abuse and discrimination. Such discrimination has
been laid down on Shylock, with Antonio spitting on him and calling him a cut throat dog . As
seen in Scene Act 1, Scene 3, Antonio, even after receiving a loan, I am as like to call thee so
again, To spit on thee again, to spurn thee too. This shows how unthankful Antonio is towards
Shylock, simply because he is a Jew. It is no wonder why Shylock seeks revenge on Antonio. When
asked by Salanio what good a pound of flesh will do, Shylock simply states To bait fish withal: if it

Gap Five Forces
Five Forces Model is a framework used in the analysis of industry structure and profitability. This
model evaluates the ability of company to assess their standing in the industry. Understanding the
industries is essential for any firm to be successful. This model evaluates the risk of entry by
potential competitors; rivalry among established companies; substitute products; bargaining power
of buyers and bargaining power of suppliers.

Bargaining Power of Buyers
Since there are various competitors and substitutes in the apparel industry, buyers have variety
products that they can choose. Consumer s switching costs therefore are low as there are large
among of different brand name in the market, such as Target, Wal Mart, Abercrombie amp; Fitch
and J.Crew etc. Hence, companies have to work hard to retain the consumers through
differentiation of their products or cost leadership. For instance, majority of buyers were willing to
pay for Gap s moderately priced clothing. On the average, the price of the products which produced
by Gap Inc. s was lower than Abercrombie amp; Fitch, such as the price range of man s tee was
US$30 $40 while Gap offered US $ 19.5 29.5 for the same type of products. Consumers therefore
have some power but not high in apparel industry, due to the low switching costs.
In clothing industry, risk of rivalry among existing firms and threat of substitute products are high;
bargaining power of buyers are moderate; threat of new entrants and bargaining power of suppliers
are low.

Pluripotent Stem Cell Essay
A review on Induction of Pluripotent Stem Cells from Mouse Embryonic and Adult Fibroblast
Cultures by Defined Factors
В¬Stem cells are yet undifferentiated cells, with the potential capability to further divide
indefinitely, and the ability to give rise to more specialized cell types. Embryonic stem(ES) cells
are of especially great importance due to their pluripotency and hence ability to differentiate to
cells of all three germ layers. Due to the great replicative powers of these cells, they may be used
to treat degenerative diseases, or injuries to the nervous system. However, as these ES cells are
extracted from blastocysts, an ethical dilemma arises, not to mention potential rejection of foreign

The 24 candidate genes were then introduced to mouse embryonic fibroblast(MEF); when grown,
no single candidate was capable of activating the Fbx15 locus. Conversely when all 24
candidates were expressed Yamanaka and Takahashi were able to obtain multiple G418 resistant
colonies. The experiment was repeated, and six colonies were chosen. Out of these six, four
displayed morphology and proliferation properties which were highly similar to ES cells. Reverse
transcriptase PCR(RTPCR) revealed several ES cell markers, and further analysis provided evidence
that it was a combination of some of the 24 factors which induced pluripotency.
To find the specific combination required to induce pluripotency, Yamanaka and Takahashi
observed the effect of removing certain factors. A total of ten factors were noted to have critical
effect on the early growth of cells; removal of any of these ten factors resulted in no colony growth
within the first ten days of culturing. Furthermore, when these ten genes were combined, Yamanaka
and Takahashi noted that the resulting cells were more similar to ES cells than cells with all 24
factors were transduced. Out of these ten factors, further factors were withdrawn; when factors Oct
Вѕ or Klf4 were removed no G418 resistant colonies formed. Moreover, when Sox2 was removed
minimal colonies formed. While resistant colonies still formed despite the removal of c Myc, the
colonies had a distorted morphology from regular ES cells (Figure 1). The

For example, Peter says to George, I wish you were dead (Bradbury). Compared to the onset of
the story where Peter acted courteously toward his parents by informing them he would not arrive
for dinner, now, Peter wishes for the demise of his father. The nursery assumes the central role in
foreshadowing the climax of The Veldt where Peter and Wendy murder George and Lydia. In the
story, Bradbury compares the hot sun to the lions paws (Bradbury). Kattelman refers to this simile,
which foreshadows the parents deaths and heightens the imagery: Not only does it heighten the
description of George s sensation by making the sun s heat seem much more tangible, it also
foreshadows the ending of the story (Kattelman). Everything worsens for George and Lydia from
the onset of the short story, leading to the climax, where Bradbury writes that the lions physically
lay their paws on the throats of George and Lydia. Bradbury uses these instances of foreshadowing
to develop the theme technology affects quality of familial relationships. Furthermore, Bradbury
develops the theme technology affects quality of familial relationships through the use of conflict
between the parents and children. A conflict develops over the use of the Happylife Home s
nursery, which allows them to reenact any event they think of to the ultimate visual, auditory,
gustatory, olfactory, and kinesthetic precision. Peter and Wendy want the machines to remain alive

How Did Chinese Culture Influence The Qing Dynasty
From the Shang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, Chinese culture had influence to neighboring and
some distant countries, at the same time China also transformed by other influence. One of the
dominating traditional belief with which China interacted with the world was a vassal or tributary
formation. It basically believed itself to be the center of civilization and other small states as
tributaries or vessels like a river with small tributaries. It was essentially an arrangement under
which all types of contracts between the Chinese and non Chinese states were practices to put in
place a structure that diplomatically allowed Chinese values and beliefs to develop (Sen and Nair

On the other hand, the rulers of north, the Mongols, Jurchen and Xiongnu had to be countered
and it led the foreign policy to be assertive at times especially under the Ming Dynasty. In the
third century B.C. Qin Dynasty in the North had emerged which build up a powerful state by
internal reforms and creation of a powerful army. However, the most famous and far reaching
project was the building of Great Wall of China to contain the nomadic horsemen from the north.
Most of the construction of it was carried out in the Ming Dynasty and it was a symbolic boundary
that acted as a shield from any attack (Ebery, 204).
Overall, the Chinese were though at one hand encouraged the trade, but at certain points became

the commodities. To them, this posed a threat to their security and identity. The Chinese saw it a

Why The World Should Be A Bit More Scotland Summary
Why The World Should Be A Bit More Scottish
By Eilidh Elliot
Amongst the thick accents and the locks of ginger hair under a constant cover of rain lies a country
wrapped in tartan and populated with the boisterous clans of the Scots. Throughout centuries
Scotland has produced innovative ideas, accomplished writers and highly decorated athletes. The
rolling hills and the multiple munros and the great depths of the lochs scattered around northern
scotland all add to the natural beauty of the country. Even though the weather is bleak and
miserable this just adds to the character of the place. Here in this land of vast beauty live the world
s greatest people the Scots!
In order to fully understand When you picture a scot you probably imagine a round, exuberant
man stomping down the road cladded fully in tartan, a ginger beard framing his face holding in
one hand a whisky and in the other a bagpipe. But that I m afraid it s simply just not true. Us scots
aren t just what the stereotypes claim. Despite that there is some truth behind them they don t
define us, no small amount of words can truly describe a true scot in all of their glory. One of the ...

Scotland s rich and complex history [9]. The history of Greyfriars Bobby shows the values that
Scots hold dear, love and limitless loyalty, which the rest of the world would greatly benefit
from. In times more recent our olympic success also shows the hardworking and ambitious
nature of the scots. Chris Hoy is one of the most successful olympians athletes of all time, he has
won 7 medals 1 silver and 6 gold [10]. Overall Scotland s history is rich and growing richer every

The Influence Of Francisco Franco On Spain
Spain Spain is a country located in the Iberian Peninsula of South West Europe. During the early
1900 s Spain had a democratic government, but like most, there were always people who did not
support their system. In Spain s case it was a man named Francisco Franco. He has left a
tremendous mark within Spains and the U.S history. He had gone into dictatorship during his rule,
told people of his very own country that they could not express their culture, and he has affected the
world in more way than most know. Francisco Francohad always criticized and judged the way
Spain had ruled their government (History.com Staff, 2009). He believed their ways were unethical,
so he took matter into his own hands. He started a Second... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One being that he had inspired one of the most famous paintings by one of the most famous
painters. Picasso had painted Guernica during the time of Franco s rule. More importantly during
the time of the Spanish Civil War. It had showed the tragedies and the suffering the war had put
many through (Pablopicasso.org Staff, 2009). That painting in particular has inspired so many
artists. Franco was responsible for that seeing as he was the one who caused the Spanish Civil
War. Hitler had reached out and asked if he could test out new weapons on Spain s soil. Franco
had made an agreement with Hitler and agreed to him testing new weapons out. That had started
the Spanish Civil War because Hitler didn t care where or who he tested his weapons on. Many
people had suffered because of that. One of the most important reasons people should know about
Franco was that because he had agreed to Hitler testing the weapons out, that gave him a big
opening. The Spanish Civil War was a pre war that gave Hitler the opportunity to test out weapons
that they would use for World War II. That was one of the most significant mistakes that Franco

My Paper On Cultural Identity
My paper was based on the first topic about how someone s life history can tell you about their
cultural identity. The person I interviewed was a second generation 32 year old immigrant from
Mexico. She is a very kind person, with such an adventurous personality. My plan was to ask
several questions about her life, as well as what she has faced. This is so I can learn more from her
and her culture. I asked a couple of questions about her life and practices to figure out how family
and changes helped her adapt to what culture she identifies with growing up. My first heading will
consist of her childhood growing up, the cultureshe grew up with and how her family plays the
important part of her culture. My second will consist on her adult changes and her identityshe has
formed. I will then explain how her experiences have helped shaped her through her life and what
she talks about during the interview as well as any other stories she would like to contribute.
To begin with, she was born in Tijuana, Mexico. She was homeschooled after she finished middle
school because her parents believed it to be better for her to remain home to teach her how they see
fit. Her connection with her parents was not that good, but they still bonded during holidays and
cultural traditions. She identifies with the American culture more than a Mexican culture, despite
her mother being Mexican; she did not live a Mexican lifestyle or celebrated much Mexican
holidays growing up. I thought this was

Runaways Portrayed In The Film Rain
In the film Rain, a young girl is visually distressed and hiding out in a phone booth while it is
storming outside. She makes a desperate phone call at two in the morning to reconnect with her
parents. The film shows how a troubled teenage girl reaches out to her mom for help because
she has ran away from home, was pregnant and drunk and she just wanted her mom to listen to
what she had to say. The teenager was sorry that she ran away. Always trying to escape that home
not so sweet home feeling . Teenagers like to run away from home because they don t want to
follow their parents rules or if they have a boyfriend/girlfriend that their parents don t approve of;
causes them to want to run off. Mostly it s shame that makes runaways run .... Show more content

In my opinion the video imply s that she ran away because her mom wouldn t listen to her. When
her mom listened, she finally wanted to come home. Tired, impatient, or distracted parents may
want to limit listening and cut the communication off . Parents cut off communication because if
the parent has a long day at work, they don t want to come home to problematic situations. For
example, if their child is failing class and skipping school and the parent is telling their kid so
many times to pick up their grades and to stop skipping class, but the kid continues to do all of
that so the parent is no longer going to have patience and is no longer going to listen, therefore
the communication is going to be cut off. The girl also says in the video, to her mom, I wanted to
tell you, but all you do is talk and tell me what to do . The girl claims that her mother had all the
answers to everything, but would never listen to what she needed. The key to managing parental
communication with their adolescence is, I believe, showing respect for adolescent change . Parents
struggle to use active listening skills and they tend to cut off their children when they are speaking.
A full hearing affirms the value of what the teenager has to communicate, All you have to say about
this is worth my listening to, just as I hope all I have to say is worth listening for you . SENTENCE
Parental communication must encompass more ignorance, conflict and unfamiliarity so they can
stay connected to their daughter or son while adolescence grows them

Scotland Pros And Cons
For a number of centuries, Highlanders have remained in the Highlands of northern Scotland. This
influential group of inhabitants, imagined bulked together in clans and having wardrobes solely
composed of tartan kilts, have been referenced throughout the recent years in popular literature and
film. These unique culture references, however, may not correctly illustrate the true depiction of
the modern day Highlander. Previously competent in the affairs of war, revolution, and politics,
Highlanders today lead a much more rural and relaxed lifestyle. Once dominated by prominent
towns, clans, and populations, the historical Highlands today contain people scarce and far
between, usually in rural villages loyal to an agrarian lifestyle. The larger... Show more content on

Those in support were often called Jacobites, and planning for revolution was done in utmost
secrecy. At the beginning of the revolution, the Highlanders did well defending themselves against
the English brutalities. In the Battle of Prestonpans, Highlanders captured nearly one thousand
English soldiers and wounded hundreds, which gave them Jacobian pride to continue the
revolution (Forty five, 2014). However, all ideals of revolution ended at the Battle of Culloden.
Leading up to the Battle of Culloden (April 16, 1746), the Highlanders hadn t been fed for days
and had little protection or shelter from the harsh Highland weather. Due to the underwhelming
force of the Highland Jacobites, the battle lasted less than an hour. There were over 1500
Highlander fatalities, a striking difference to only fifty English fatalities. On their way home from
the tremendous victory, the English stopped by any Highland villages on the way and rid of each
Highlander they saw. Houses, barns, and memories were burnt to the ground in the reigning terror
of the English on their way back from Culloden (Magnusson, 2000, p. 617). This, the last pitched
battle on British soil, remains a haunting reminder to the Highlanders to this

Analysis Of The Movie Birth Of A Nation
Give a description of a scene that incorporates a more modern language of filmmaking via shots,
lighting, editing. Birth of a Nation has a lot of scenes the movie itself is 3 hours long however
in one specific scene D.W. Griffith manages to incorporate many modern filmmaking techniques.
The scene in which Flora goes to retrieve water and is abruptly met by Gus incorporates many
modern techniques. In this scene we see the use of close up shots to focus on character reactions
from both Gus and Flora. We also see the use of close ups to focus on objects other characters are
looking at such as Flora looking at a squirrel in a tree. Finally, we also see the use of natural
lighting in this scene as the entirety of the scene is shot outside. This an instance of a form of
cinematic realism that is confused for the reality of reconstruction politics after the death of
Lincoln. What stereotypes are perpetrated in this film? The film consistently perpetuates
stereotypes that the African American community are less than human and more like animals. This
is done through how they act, the film itself depicts them as being uncivilized. Within the film
there are scenes where many African American characters have taken political office and are
shown taking their shoes off and being lazy, and eating food openly during political hearings. The
film also depicts most African Americans as being evil or criminals. The film itself shows Gus
attempting to harm Flora due to her refusing

Acute Pancreatitis
The Endocrine system is in charge of making sure your body works the way it should. It works by
sending chemical messages through your body to make sure it works efficiently. The Endocrine
system affects pretty much every cell and organ in your body. This system includes every single
gland in your body that makes hormones. These glandsinclude the pituitary gland, parathyroid
glands, adrenal glands, thyroid gland, Pancreas, ovaries in females and testicles in males. These
collection of glands produce and secrete (release) hormones directly into the blood stream. These
hormones target specific cells in an organ, this is to control metabolism, growth and development,
tissue function, sexual function, reproduction, sleep and mood. This is to help the body work the
way it is suppose to. Homeostasis is the process of maintaining a constant internal environment
including temperature, water content, available energy, oxygen and the concentration of wastes

Symptonms include abdominal pain, your abdomen may become swollen and vomiting. Most
of the time it settles in a few days but sometimes it becomes severe. Acute pancreatitis is mostly
cause by drinking a lot of alcohol and gallstones. There are enzymes in your body (digestive
chemicals) that the Pancreas creates, they then become active d and start to digest your
Pancreas. This leads to multiple chemical reactions that cause inflammation on the Pancreas.
This is what happens during Acute Pancreatitis. The consequences that acute pancreatitis has on
your body is very serious. It can lead to multi organ damage/failure. Really bad cases of Acute
Pancreatitis can lead to hypovolemiv shock which is a condition where the liquid portion of
your blood (plasma) is too low, Severe blood and fluid loss can leave the heart not being able to
pump through enough blood to your body and parts of your body could possible become oxygen
deprived (low in

  • 2. Fdi Drawbacks Arguments against FDI in Retail in India 1. Predatory Pricing With its incredibly deep pockets Wal Mart will be able to sustain losses for many years till its immediate competition is wiped out. This is a normal predatory strategy used by large players to drive out small and dispersed competition. This entails job losses by the millions. 2. This occurs when we do not pay enough attention to a bit of information when we should be encoding it; it often occurs when our attention is divided. For example, we may get distracted while walking a dog by a butterfly or a strange noise and with this distraction, it can cause our attention to stray from the dogЕ› surroundings to that object. If this occurs, the dog may escape from our grasp and into possible danger like traffic. But ARC does have rules that may prevent this even with absent mindedness; walkers have to have the leash around their wrist and in their hands to prevent runaway dogs. Absent mindedness can also occur in a less dangerous matter. It could occur when cleaning kennels. Introduction Efficient market hypothesis had been a topic of significant interest to the academicians, practitioners and the corporate executives for a long period. Under Eugene Fama s(1965) survey, it is reflected that there is a turning point of the modern finance by efficient market hypothesis. However, there had been a shift in the focus to the theory of behavioral finance (Shiller, 2003) recently. Behavioral finance is the financial structure which supplements various parts of finance (Gallagher, 2003). It is the module which supports and displays the behavior of the investment managers and assists in the overall process of management. Therefore, behavioral finance is a unique art which is required to be selected in order to understand the outcomes of interactions between the investment managers and the corporates. Given this background, this essay examines how the behavioral finance has challenged the efficient market hypothesis and the implications of behavioral finance for investment managers. 2. The four cases raise question as to why we can consider the cases to be genocide, and what similarities and differences each case has. Considering the UN definition , I acknowledge all but the British Indian case to be genocide. The zoo has determined that Marius s traits were too common in the breeding pool he was in so he was considered useless. Marius, the 18 month old giraffe, was culled in front of a group of students visiting the enclosure. This sent an uproar through the animal rights movements as well as the general public simply because the giraffe could have been transferred to another zoo rather than ... • 25. The Importance Of Japanese Culture And Society In societies across the world, religion has always had the ability to unite the people into communities through its rituals and celebrations. Japanese society is a major example of how people can join together as a community to celebrate their unique beliefs. However, this would then often raise the question of which came first; the close knit community who started the religion, or the religion that jumpstarted everything and brought people together. The truth of the matter is, if one were to look at Japanese culture and society, it is rather apparent that ancient religions such as Buddhism and Shintoform rituals and traditions which would then later shape the ceremonies that the community partake in. These ceremonies are essentially festivals that villages put together to show respect and acknowledgement for a certain religion or an important event. Festivals are done with the most dedication among everybody in a villageor town, and it is this dedication that proves how important festivals are to the community. Essentially, the religion is the driving force behind a culture s communal bond, and it is the festivals such as the Kenka Matsuri, Namahage Matsuri, and the Gion Matsuri that are physical representation of this union. However, these religious festivals have proven to lose its religious background and tradition and start to converge into a celebration of the community itself. The story details the free spirit of rebellion of that decade through flashbacks by its characters. The central quest is that of a daughter for her absent mother, and while the process by which the two are united involves an impressive accumulation of information about international corporate practices and structures, the history of the Left in California, the effects of Reaganomics and the War on Drugs, and the popular culture of the 1980s, there are no epistemological impasses or withheld revelations (Hite 719).... His work really set the tone of the Pop ArtEra. It pulled in a lot of pop culture and always made some kind of statement, whether noticeable or not contrary to the previous generation. The crusades can be the event that is accredited with the way that society looks at holy wars or wars of religion. Reasons for the crusades are the threat that the Turks presented to Christian territories, massive spread of Christianity, and for pilgrimage (completing God s will). The Turks presented a huge threat to Christians. Muslims were set out on conquest of Christian territories. Although the Byzantium s were able to hold on important regions Greece and Asia Minor the Turks did capture much of Byzantium land. To add to all of this the Turks destroyed some churches ... and seized pilgrims. (page 6) Of coarse the Byzantium was not okay with this. Pope Gregory VII made plans early in 1074 to ride up against the Turks. He saw the Byzantium invasions as the perfect opportunity to employ Europe s warriors in the service of God. When it comes to the Iroquois League s Constitution of the Five Nations, their references of nature seem to serve as a way to connect humans with the natural world. For Edwards, he used nature a bit differently. He used nature in his sermons to give his congregations a better picture of the images he was trying to convey. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He used symbols of nature to better convey his message of Hell to both believers and non believers. Edwards used images of fire, water, wind, clouds, spiders, and snakes in order put some fear into the hearts of his audience. The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a spider or some loathsome insect over the fire, abhors you and is dreadfully provoked; His wrath towards you burns like fire; He looks upon you as worthy of nothing else but to be cast into the fire; He is of purer eyes than to bear to have you in His sight; you are ten thousand times more abominable in His eyes than the most hateful and venomous serpent is in ours. (McMichael Leonard, 2011, p. 162) Within this passage alone, it is evident that Edwards used nature all throughout his sermon. When explaining God s wrath, Edwards compares the wrath to water. The wrath of God is like great waters that are damned for the present, they increase more and more and more, and rise higher and higher, till an outlet is given; and the longer the stream is stopped, the more rapid and mighty is its course when once it is let loose. (McMichael Leonard, 2011, p. 161) Often, when water is used as a symbol it is meant to show a cleansing effect. Whether he was using the symbol of water to show that the salvation that can come from God alone can cleanse our dirty hearts, or if he was leaning more towards the image of Noah and the Ark when God completely wiped out the entire human population. Granted, God did promise that he would never flood the earth again. Whichever image Edwards was leaning towards, his audience still got the point that he was trying to make. Edwards knew what He was doing when he preached this sermon. He felt that it was appropriate to put the fear of God into his congregation and basically scare them into ... In this essay I will talk about two very important developmental theories, Erikson and Freud. In addition, compare their similarities and their differences. Erikson was a psychologist who was greatly influenced by Freud. Although influenced by Freud there are some differences in there developmental stages. Erikson believed that development in an individual was molded by society, culture, and environment. While Freud s belief was that development is in some way is influenced by the fixation of sexual interest of different areas of the body. The stages in Erikson s development theory outline how important social experiences can shape us. While Freud s theory is mainly based on ones sexuality. Additionally the other significant difference between Erikson s and Freud s theories is the outcome of a particular stage. Erikson believed that the outcome of a certain stage was not permanent and that it could be changed later on in life. While Freud presumed that if an individual became fixated on a stage problems associated with that stage would be carried on through life. • 39. Merchant Of Venice Theme Analysis The Merchant of Venice Question: The Merchant of Venice was a play about a Jewish moneylender who plots to cut off a pound of flesh from a Merchant whom he has a history with. Revenge was the central theme of Shakespeare s play The Merchant of Venice . However, there are other themes throughout the text, namely friendship and prejudice, that help to emphasise revenge as the central theme of the play. Revenge is an integral part of the play and characters in the play. Revenge is what drives Shylock, seeking to obtain revenge on Antonio. In a way, Jessica seeks revenge for the hell that her father made at home. In Venice, during the time of Shakespeare, Jews were not seen as humans. They were alienated for their beliefs and due to the belief that Jews were responsible for the death of Christ. As a result of this alienation, Jews were forced to wear red hats whenever going out, which made them ripe for the picking for abuse and discrimination. Such discrimination has been laid down on Shylock, with Antonio spitting on him and calling him a cut throat dog . As seen in Scene Act 1, Scene 3, Antonio, even after receiving a loan, I am as like to call thee so again, To spit on thee again, to spurn thee too. This shows how unthankful Antonio is towards Shylock, simply because he is a Jew. It is no wonder why Shylock seeks revenge on Antonio. Out of these six, four displayed morphology and proliferation properties which were highly similar to ES cells. Reverse transcriptase PCR(RTPCR) revealed several ES cell markers, and further analysis provided evidence that it was a combination of some of the 24 factors which induced pluripotency. To find the specific combination required to induce pluripotency, Yamanaka and Takahashi observed the effect of removing certain factors. A total of ten factors were noted to have critical effect on the early growth of cells; removal of any of these ten factors resulted in no colony growth within the first ten days of culturing. Furthermore, when these ten genes were combined, Yamanaka and Takahashi noted that the resulting cells were more similar to ES cells than cells with all 24 factors were transduced. Out of these ten factors, further factors were withdrawn; when factors Oct Вѕ or Klf4 were removed no G418 resistant colonies formed. Moreover, when Sox2 was removed minimal colonies formed. • 45. The Influence Of Francisco Franco On Spain Spain Spain is a country located in the Iberian Peninsula of South West Europe. During the early 1900 s Spain had a democratic government, but like most, there were always people who did not support their system. In Spain s case it was a man named Francisco Franco. He has left a tremendous mark within Spains and the U.S history. He had gone into dictatorship during his rule, told people of his very own country that they could not express their culture, and he has affected the world in more way than most know. Francisco Francohad always criticized and judged the way Spain had ruled their government (History.com Staff, 2009). He believed their ways were unethical, so he took matter into his own hands. Picasso had painted Guernica during the time of Franco s rule. More importantly during the time of the Spanish Civil War. It had showed the tragedies and the suffering the war had put many through (Pablopicasso.org Staff, 2009). That painting in particular has inspired so many artists. Franco was responsible for that seeing as he was the one who caused the Spanish Civil War. Hitler had reached out and asked if he could test out new weapons on Spain s soil. Franco had made an agreement with Hitler and agreed to him testing new weapons out. That had started the Spanish Civil War because Hitler didn t care where or who he tested his weapons on. Many people had suffered because of that. One of the most important reasons people should know about Franco was that because he had agreed to Hitler testing the weapons out, that gave him a big opening. The Spanish Civil War was a pre war that gave Hitler the opportunity to test out weapons that they would use for World War II. That was one of the most significant mistakes that Franco made during his time of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. My Paper On Cultural Identity My paper was based on the first topic about how someone s life history can tell you about their cultural identity. The person I interviewed was a second generation 32 year old immigrant from Mexico. She is a very kind person, with such an adventurous personality. My plan was to ask several questions about her life, as well as what she has faced. This is so I can learn more from her and her culture. I asked a couple of questions about her life and practices to figure out how family and changes helped her adapt to what culture she identifies with growing up. My first heading will consist of her childhood growing up, the cultureshe grew up with and how her family plays the important part of her culture. My second will consist on her adult changes and her identityshe has formed. I will then explain how her experiences have helped shaped her through her life and what she talks about during the interview as well as any other stories she would like to contribute. To begin with, she was born in Tijuana, Mexico. She was homeschooled after she finished middle school because her parents believed it to be better for her to remain home to teach her how they see fit. Her connection with her parents was not that good, but they still bonded during holidays and cultural traditions. She identifies with the American culture more than a Mexican culture, despite her mother being Mexican; she did not live a Mexican lifestyle or celebrated much Mexican holidays growing up. I thought this was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Runaways Portrayed In The Film Rain In the film Rain, a young girl is visually distressed and hiding out in a phone booth while it is storming outside. She makes a desperate phone call at two in the morning to reconnect with her parents. The film shows how a troubled teenage girl reaches out to her mom for help because she has ran away from home, was pregnant and drunk and she just wanted her mom to listen to what she had to say. The teenager was sorry that she ran away. Always trying to escape that home not so sweet home feeling . Teenagers like to run away from home because they don t want to follow their parents rules or if they have a boyfriend/girlfriend that their parents don t approve of; causes them to want to run off. Mostly it s shame that makes runaways run .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion the video imply s that she ran away because her mom wouldn t listen to her. When her mom listened, she finally wanted to come home. Tired, impatient, or distracted parents may want to limit listening and cut the communication off . Parents cut off communication because if the parent has a long day at work, they don t want to come home to problematic situations. For example, if their child is failing class and skipping school and the parent is telling their kid so many times to pick up their grades and to stop skipping class, but the kid continues to do all of that so the parent is no longer going to have patience and is no longer going to listen, therefore the communication is going to be cut off. The girl also says in the video, to her mom, I wanted to tell you, but all you do is talk and tell me what to do . The girl claims that her mother had all the answers to everything, but would never listen to what she needed. The key to managing parental communication with their adolescence is, I believe, showing respect for adolescent change . Parents struggle to use active listening skills and they tend to cut off their children when they are speaking. A full hearing affirms the value of what the teenager has to communicate, All you have to say about this is worth my listening to, just as I hope all I have to say is worth listening for you . SENTENCE Parental communication must encompass more ignorance, conflict and unfamiliarity so they can stay connected to their daughter or son while adolescence grows them ... • 48. Scotland Pros And Cons For a number of centuries, Highlanders have remained in the Highlands of northern Scotland. This influential group of inhabitants, imagined bulked together in clans and having wardrobes solely composed of tartan kilts, have been referenced throughout the recent years in popular literature and film. These unique culture references, however, may not correctly illustrate the true depiction of the modern day Highlander. Previously competent in the affairs of war, revolution, and politics, Highlanders today lead a much more rural and relaxed lifestyle. Once dominated by prominent towns, clans, and populations, the historical Highlands today contain people scarce and far between, usually in rural villages loyal to an agrarian lifestyle. The larger... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those in support were often called Jacobites, and planning for revolution was done in utmost secrecy. At the beginning of the revolution, the Highlanders did well defending themselves against the English brutalities. In the Battle of Prestonpans, Highlanders captured nearly one thousand English soldiers and wounded hundreds, which gave them Jacobian pride to continue the revolution (Forty five, 2014). However, all ideals of revolution ended at the Battle of Culloden. Leading up to the Battle of Culloden (April 16, 1746), the Highlanders hadn t been fed for days and had little protection or shelter from the harsh Highland weather. Due to the underwhelming force of the Highland Jacobites, the battle lasted less than an hour. There were over 1500 Highlander fatalities, a striking difference to only fifty English fatalities. On their way home from the tremendous victory, the English stopped by any Highland villages on the way and rid of each Highlander they saw. Houses, barns, and memories were burnt to the ground in the reigning terror of the English on their way back from Culloden (Magnusson, 2000, p. 617). This, the last pitched battle on British soil, remains a haunting reminder to the Highlanders to this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Analysis Of The Movie Birth Of A Nation Give a description of a scene that incorporates a more modern language of filmmaking via shots, lighting, editing. Birth of a Nation has a lot of scenes the movie itself is 3 hours long however in one specific scene D.W. Griffith manages to incorporate many modern filmmaking techniques. The scene in which Flora goes to retrieve water and is abruptly met by Gus incorporates many modern techniques. In this scene we see the use of close up shots to focus on character reactions from both Gus and Flora. We also see the use of close ups to focus on objects other characters are looking at such as Flora looking at a squirrel in a tree. Finally, we also see the use of natural lighting in this scene as the entirety of the scene is shot outside. This an instance of a form of cinematic realism that is confused for the reality of reconstruction politics after the death of Lincoln. What stereotypes are perpetrated in this film? The film consistently perpetuates stereotypes that the African American community are less than human and more like animals. This is done through how they act, the film itself depicts them as being uncivilized. Within the film there are scenes where many African American characters have taken political office and are shown taking their shoes off and being lazy, and eating food openly during political hearings. The film also depicts most African Americans as being evil or criminals. The film itself shows Gus attempting to harm Flora due to her refusing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It works by sending chemical messages through your body to make sure it works efficiently. The Endocrine system affects pretty much every cell and organ in your body.
