African American Criminal Justice System
The Criminal Justice System: African Americans Throughout History in The United States
Introduction: In recent years police departments have been brought into the public eye based on
the public belief that police brutality has become a norm within the police system in recent years.
Yet this has occurred for decades in police departments, not only that but there are multiple forms
of brutality to take account of in the criminal justice system specifically towards African
Americans. The criminal justice system has become accustomed to creating a system of racial
control after the ending of the Jim Crow Era. Causing every level of the system to work in a way
that limits the freedom of African Americans the most common being that of police misusing...

(Kilgore, 2014) Kilgore is saying that because of all the prisons that have been created in towns
they look like they are just prisons laying around. You can take such as Chicago it has Cook
County jail located near a park and areas where people live within less than a mile away. Not
only that but at least within a two mile range there are also schools surrounding it. Less than 5
miles away there is also a juvenile correction center and even a detention center. Many of these
places are in minority areas where crime tends to be high . So, you can see what Kilgore was

The Is A Successful Sports Team Loses Its Place
Sometimes, a historically successful sports team loses its place. This may happen suddenly
without apparent cause, or gradually as stars age and are unable to be replaced. One such
professional team that appears to be going through this process, at least to me, is the 2015
Seattle Seahawks. They ve been to the Super Bowl two years in a row and seemed poised for yet
another superlative season at the beginning of the year. Yet, through seven games they ve been
nothing if not mediocre. What has caused this drop in production? The Seahawks didn t lose
many key players during the offseason and even added some players who appeared to be destined
to become superstars with the team. The answer, I believe, lies in the loss of their identity.... Show

But I believe that there is value in becoming lost. Many of the team s young players have
experienced nothing but success in the NFL. They must learn how to overcome adversity and
hold the lead late in games. If they do happen to save the season, it would be great opportunity
for the players to grow as professional athletes and prepare for future triumph. This principle is
applicable to more than just football. We can learn valuable lessons from a loss in almost any
context. Losing forces us to think hard about our identities and be humble, whether we re part of
an NFL team or just small, innocent children. Once, long ago, much like the 2015 Seattle
Seahawks, I became lost. I was merely a wee lad, not much older than three or four years, on a
family vacation with my sister, parents, and grandparents. We were staying in Port Townsend,
Washington in an old military style duplex. The pale blue double door house had the feeling of a
1950 s movie, rather quaint and homey. An ancient apple tree towered over my head just outside
the window, too tall for me to climb, yet tempting enough for me to try. My family and I were
leaving the duplex to attend some long forgotten tourist activity, when I, the little boy with a vibrant
tie dyed t shirt, had to return to the house to retrieve my blue fleece jacket. The beginning of fall
weather was just cold enough to

Essay about Sex Pistols and Censorship
Sex Pistols and Censorship
Punks have always been known for pushing the envelope, but the Sex Pistols pushed it farther
than anyone to date in the genre of punk music. The Sex Pistols boisterous lyrics and edgy
appearance led for them to be heavily censored by the radio and print media and even banned in
many places, Britain and abroad.
They were like nothing seen or heard before. Their torn clothes and spiked hair sent a visual
message that they did not care what others thought. The band was actually put together by Malcolm
McLaren, who used the band as an advertisement for his fetish clothing store. Their chains, tight
leather, and torn clothes have since been associated with punk.

The band has to tour under various names such as S.P.O.T.S. (The Sex Pistols On Tour Secretly),
because they are banned by many national governments. Their performances were crazy and
lengendary. Bassist Sid Vicioushelped the band gain notoriety with his insane performances. One
night nobody was payin any attention to me, so I thought I d commit suicide, Vicious said. So I
went in the bathroom broke a glass and slashed my chest with it. It s a really good way to get
attention. I m going to do it again particularly since it doesn t work. They all said I didn t cut
myself enough to be realistic and ignored me. He laughed, then added You better not make a fool
of me in this article.
After being dropped by E.M.I. for their disgraceful.... agressive...behavior, the band quickly
resigned to A M Records, who subsequently dropped them six days later by executives who were
worried about the band s message. The only label that would sign them was the hippie label
Virgin. The Pistols released the single God Save the Queen under Virgin in May of 1977, only to
have it banned soon thereafter by BBC Radio. Virgin managed to get Boots s, Woolworth, and
W.H. Smith stores lift their ban and agree to stock the band s new single Pretty Vacant / No Fun.

The Movie The Golden Eagle
The moment did become better. South of us, soaring high in the sky appeared an eagle. Not a
bald eagle, but perhaps a golden and it appeared to be closing in on our location as it dropped in
altitude. Mesmerized, eyes locked in on the free bird, it ensued on a flight pattern directly at our
position. The closer it moved in, the swifter it soared. Suddenly, the realization set in that it was
too late to lunge for a camera. The bird rapidly appeared in such proximity the details of the
underside wings were sharply in focus. Holly claims the bird s flight pattern locked in on her,
and I believe her. For a brief moment, an uncomfortable feeling besieged me as I couldn t
understand the bird s intentions of being that close in flight. An actual goose bump or two
appeared while a mild chill jettisoned down my back. It was captivating and eerie at the same
time. The golden eagle flew directly over Holly swooshing past and soaring out over the ravine.
If either Holly or I had hastily searched for a camera, we would have missed the amazing display
of soaring free. As with Tim, Holly and I would also have missed the spectacle if we d chosen to
pursue the glacier. Locating Tim against the blended landscape became easier as he neared our
location. Only a few minutes out, I developed an eagerness to hear a report of what he d seen, and
to what distance he managed to the glacier. His return marked a 45 minute absence and he
mentioned the ice still remained roughly an hour from his reach.

Literature Review On The Sound Of Music
Anukaran Jain
The Sound of Music Review
What makes a musical appealing? Perhaps it is the melodious songs that leave a lasting
impression, or maybe its appeal lies in its dramatic acting that touches the hearts of its audience.
Nonetheless in the case of Sound of Music, by Howard Lindsay and Richard Crouse, this musical
spectacle proves itself by crafting a complete narrative, having an accomplished and versatile cast,
and strongly relating to the audience.
In order for a musical to capture the attention of its audience, the mix between music and acting
have to be perfect. The Sound of Music gets around this problem by flawlessly integrating songs
with the story to create a truly unique and complete narrative. This can be shown by the pairing
of at least one song with every scene. Furthermore each song adds to the existing storyline in
order to further refine it. For instance, in Scene 5, when Maria, played by Jill Christine Wiley,
meets the children of the Von Trapp family, she teaches them about music. Hence the song Do
Re me is sung by the characters. Not only is this song a part of the musical, but it also adds to
the performance by being used as a means to enlighten the children about the Sound of Music.
Another example is that of the song in scene 6, when Rolf and Lisel, played by Chad B Campbell
and Keslie Ward respectively, secretly meet up and sing and dance in the rain. Again, the piece,
Sixteen Going on Seventeen acts as an apparatus for adding to the plotline by

CFD Via Large Eddy Simulation Case Study
In chapter 3, it was shown that CFD via Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence closure is
capable of simulating ABL wind characteristics with a better agreement in compare to target
theoretical wind profiles for open terrain condition rather than the other turbulence closures of k
Оµ and Reynolds Stress Model (RSM). It is because LES uses a spatial filtering operation to
separate the larger eddies (which are more anisotropic) and smaller eddies (which are nearly
isotropic). However, the prescribed inlet velocity in chapter 3 for CFD model of the open jet
facility was a uniform windover the height of test section, and it was the rule of planks arrangement
to produce the final target wind profile. Furthermore, in chapter 4, some important... Show more

For wind engineering applications and simulation of flow around buildings, the validation can be
defined into two main phases, including: (1) wind flow characteristics validation; and, (2)
validation of simulated pressures on surfaces of building [99]. In this chapter, the CFD LES is
carried out to simulate the inflow turbulence content in such a way to compensate the lack of large
eddies in the flow. The generated transient inflow should possess natural wind characteristics with
both time (temporal) and space (spatial) correlations.
In this chapter, in order to make certain that the developed CFD LES model of a low rise
building and the inlet wind velocity fluctuations are in accordance to real world ABL properties,
the full scale benchmark data from the Wind Engineering Research Field Laboratory (WERFL)
at Texas Tech University (TTU) are used as field recorded wind pressure and velocity data. In
addition, wind tunnel measurement from NIST/UWO and open jet testing at LSU are compared
with CFD LES results. The effects of correlation of wind loading on the roof of low rise buildings
are investigated for each cases as well. In addition, the values of peak pressure coefficients are
compared with external pressure coefficients, GCp, specified for components and cladding (C C)
in ASCE 7 10.

Teenagers In Creon By Sophocles Antigone
When a teenager rebels they do so because they are under minded by authority. One example is
illustrated in Persepolis, Mrs. Nasrine, Marjane s maid, is distraught over her son s life having
a worth of a plastic key (Satrapi 99). Mrs. Nasrine s son is promised luxuries in the afterlife if they
die in war (Satrapi 100). This simple view of a teenager s life and their usage leads teenagers to
rebel. Marjane s cousin, Shahab also recalls seeing the teenagers being thrown into the field and
faced with immediate death (Satrapi 101,102). Iranian teenage boys are shown to be simply fodder
to the IranIraqi War and while they hold the future of a nation, the regime only sees them as pawns.

In Persepolis, Marjane s teacher claims since the Islamic Republic has been found there has
been no political prisoners. Marjane calls out her teacher in lying to the whole class and
dispenses her experience with her Uncle Anoosh, a prisoner under the Shah but executed by the
Islamic Republic (Satrapi 144). Marajane was faced with immediate applause from her
classmates and praise from her father (Satrapi 144, 145). Support is shown as a symbol of
agreement and thus her classmates and father supporting her depicts her rebellion as justified.
Primarily, more necessary in the case of her classmates as they would have been lied to from
authority which can be noted as brainwashing. Support of a teenager s rebellion can be shown
again with Joshua Wong s activism. Joshua s parents, Grace and Roger Wong, praise their son s
efforts to change Hong Kong, ...we are very proud of all that he is doing to make Hong Kong a
better place for his generation and our generation. (Branigan). Not only is Joshua supported by
his parents, but the citizens of Hong Kong through social media, claiming him to be a hero of the
whole pro democracy movement (Branigan). The support Joshua Wong is offered is an example
of a teenager representing a whole body of people. Joshua Wong s efforts and rebellion is deemed
justifiable and necessary as he is not just representing his views and his want for

Essay on Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy
According to the website www.cpal/geocities.org, I found some valuable information to help me
with my report about exceptionalities in students. This website was almost like a tutorial that
walked step by step through the disability, causes, and treatments.
I found that in definition the words Cerebral Palsy are used to describe a medical condition that
affects control of the muscles. Cerebral means anything in the head and palsy refers to anything
wrong with control of the muscles or joints in the body. If someone has cerebral palsy it means that
because of an injury to their brain (that s the cerebral part) they are not able to use some of the
muscles in their body in the normal way (that s the palsy part). Children ... Show more content on

Changes in muscle tone let us move.
In this website I also learned that there are several types of CP. I wrote the different types below to
help understand each one individually.
1. Spastic Cerebral Palsy
If muscle tone is too high or too tight, the term spastic is used to describe the type of cerebral
palsy. Children with spastic CP have stiff and jerky movements because their muscles are too tight.
They often have a hard time moving from one position to another or letting go of something in
their hand. This is the most common type of CP. About half of all people with CP have spastic CP.
2. Ataxic Cerebral Palsy
Low muscle tone and poor coordination of movements is described as ataxic CP. Kids with
ataxic CP look very unsteady and shaky. They have a lot of shakiness, like a tremor you might
have seen in a very old person, especially when they are trying to do something like write or turn
a page or cut with scissors. They also often have very poor balance and may be very unsteady
when they walk. Because of the shaky movements and problems coordinating their muscles, kids
with ataxic CP may take longer to finish writing or art projects.
3. Athetoid Cerebral Palsy
The term athetoid is used to describe the type of cerebral palsy when muscle tone is mixed
sometimes too high and sometimes too low. Children with athetoid CP have trouble holding

Essay on Racism and The Latino Community
In this world we are constantly being categorized by our race and ethnicity, and for many people it
s hard to look beyond that. Even though in the past many stood up for equality and to stop racism
and discrimination, it still occurs. In this nation of freedom and equality, there are still many people
who believe that their raceis superior to others. These beliefs are the ones that destroy our nation
and affect the lives of many. The people affected are not limited by their age group, sex, social
status, or by their education level. Their beliefs can cause them to attack other groups verbally or
in silence and even reaching to the point of violence. All of this occurs because we can t be seen

These racist groups take advantage especially of the illegal Latino population in doing these things,
because they believe they have no rights due to their illegal status here in the United States. Also
these groups know that many of these Hispanics will not go to police to report these incidents of
discrimination and abuse, because they are fearful that in doing so they might get deported.
They also discriminate the legal Latinos, because in their eyes they are the same as the illegal
ones. The article also portrays the horrific actions of discrimination racist extremist do against
Latinos. Eviatar reports the examples of the abuse by stating, a young mother was arrested and
jailed when she asked to be paid for her work in a Tennessee cheese factory; a migrant bean
picker whose life savings were confiscated by police during a traffic stop, and a rapist in Georgia
going unpunished because his 13 year old victim is undocumented (par 3). The hate they feel
towards this minority group, cause them to commit acts that are unjustifiable. They inflict pain and
psychological suffering to Hispanics. This behavior is the cause racism, that as you see can harm to
other ethnicities at a great level. Racialism also comes to play in this case, because these groups
believe that they are biologically superior to Hispanics and other ethnicities and races as well. Our
race does not make us superior to others, yet they still believe in that it does. Enculturation

Nile River Impact Of Egypt
The Nile River helped Egypt economically, socially, and religiously, and as a result Egypt was
named the Gift of the Nile because of the given history of these great waters. The Nile has
continued for centuries to provide whats necessary for the people of Egypt and their daily lives.
The Nile River is truly a blessing to these people and Egyptwould not be the same without it.
Without the Nile, Egypt would have remained a hot desert. The people would have not been able to
survive because there was no way of getting food, water, and other basic needs to survive. The Nile
River was considered the Gift of the Nile because of the many ways the river provided for the land.

1/3 of Egypt are farmers and all of these farmers in Egypt were very dependent on the Nile River.
Egypt s farmers were depending on the river to flood the area, so that there would be fertile
lands. With fertile lands, the farmers were able to plant crops, that wouldn t die and be healthy.
The main crops that were planted in Egypt were cotton, corn, wheat, barley, rice, sugar cane,
sorghum, fruits, vegetables, and dates. Every year, when the Nile River flooded, the soil was
filled with nutrients for all these crops to grow. One thing that the Nile River really helped with,
was that the river provided so many jobs to many people living in Egypt. Without the Nile River,
there would be many unemployed, which means many that were impecunious. Having so many
people with little money meant that for those who did work, they wouldn t get as much money
because a lot of the people wouldn t be able to afford anything.
Some of these jobs included farmers, because of the flooding so the farmers could plant crops.
Then there were fishermen, who could fish from the Nile River to sell out to the people which
was another way of having food. Without the river, there could be no fishermen to go fishing as
the river. Another important job were the sailors, which would move the boats up and down the
river. Obviously, without the river there could be no sailors. For the sailors to do their job, there
had to be ship builders that would

Working While Attending High School
I think that it is inconvenient for adolescent to work while attending high school. Although the
really is that many adolescents are obtaining part time employment while in high school. According
Santrock (2014) It is estimated that 80 to 90 percent of adolescents are employed at some point
during high school(p.387). I do agree that there are some potentially positive influences. Some of
the advantageous that a working adolescent may experience are the development of autonomy,
social learning, and intergenerational harmony and contribute to the continuity between
adolescence and adulthood (Greenberger Steinberg, 1981. p.691). However, I believe that there are
much more disadvantages than advantageous. One of the disadvantages is that they may not have
time for school, family, and friends. An adolescent s first priority should be obtaining a higher
education. When they work they may place more emphasis on their employment instead of their
education. Also, they may become stressed out to fulfill their numerous commitments. They will

They are absent more and reported that they did not enjoy school as much. If an adolescent
works long hours it may affect them both physically and mentally (Larson, 2009, p.387). For
instance, one reason is they will have to balance their school obligations and work obligations.
One research study found that it was not just working, but the long hours that affected their
grades (Greenberger Steinberg, 1986. p.691). This can cause a great deal of stress in their life.
For instance, if an adolescent works at McDonalds waiting on customers they may feel stress in
ensuring that they meet the expected time frames and to provide customers with a quick and
accurate service. Exposure to job stress is related to alcohol and marijuana use for both boys and
girls (Greenberger Steinberg, 1986.

Discrimination In Workplace
There are laws against discrimination and many work places are breaking them. Discrimination can
happen anywhere but it most happens in the workplace. People get discriminated against every day
because of either their race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disabilities. In 2014 there
were 88,778 discriminationin the work place cases. Out of the 88,778 cases there were 31,073 race
cases, 26,027 sex cases, 3,549 religion cases, 20,588 age cases, and 25,369 disability cases (Twenty

Even though there are numerous laws protecting discrimination workplaces are still violating those
laws. Some people are careless and inconsiderate about others that they do not even realize that they

they cannot change. Getting discriminated against is not a good feeling at all it makes them upset,
angry and sometimes less than human. If someone feels they are getting discriminated against they
should report it immediately before it gets worse. Race discrimination is the number one type of
discrimination in America. Gender discrimination can happen to either men or women. Religion
discrimination often occurs when one does not respect ones religious practices or religious
clothing. Sexual orientation discrimination can occur to a person because of their sexual choices.
Age discrimination occurs when someone feels as if someone is not fit for a job because of his

Bathroom Analysis
The lights in the bathroom reflect off of every crevice, even the clear glass shower hidden in the

Nietzsche s Philosophy On The Priestly Figure
Friedrich Nietzsche puts forth the image of the priestly figure in what seems to be a positive
and negative manner. Priests are the greatest haters in the world but they are also the most
intelligent (p.17). Nietzsche s position, according to me, seems ambivalent due to the context in
which he refers to them is altering. There is no clear light in which the priestly figure is shown
to be inherently positive or negative. In this paper, I will bring in his claims, explicate Nietzsche
s standpoint on the priestly figure and how they are ambiguous as they are not thoroughly
positive or negative. To begin with, Nietzsche was a relentless critic of morality and questioned
the concept of good and bad. Similarly, he proposed a question on whether the self is an
affirmation of good or negation of evil. He establishes that good/evil and good/bad come from
two distinct origins, where the two good s radically oppose each other. For Nietzsche, this is
what seems like the slave morality, which says that evil equates to what is good and the master
morality that equates bad to good. Slave morality proposes that if you are evil then I am good
while the master morality says if I am good, then you bad. This is essentially who the priest is.
They are those who feel powerless in situations where there is physical power present. A venomous
hatred is then manifested for the powerful as they are supposed to be spiritually powerful people.
This also lies in ressentimentof the weak that

largely believed that such practices misrepresent the underlying reported financial performance of
firms, instantaneously conflicts key core aims of accounting to provide consistent and comparable

Bearing in mind the prevailing issue of creative accounting, one cannot help but to question the
accuracy of the data, be it to a small degree, presented in data sources such as prospectuses and
annual reports. It is fair to say that the evidences presented in for example table 4 and 5 give a
logical support to the assertions and observations made by the author.
Overall, I believe the author has been successful in terms of providing the reader an understanding
and depths as to what are the key drivers behind the use of this practice. The paper lightly attempts
to outline an important question why or for how long these motivators and constraints support
creative accounting schemes appear to go undetected. Shah (1998) concluded that despite Tesco
pursuing similar policies to that of Burton, it had a healthy underlying performance and so had
fewer repercussions on the firms. Consequently, it does not only identify and state factors and
answer his own questions pertaining to the title of this paper, but also infers logically from the
evidence that it s a combinations of a strong mix of the UK financial reporting environment as an
explanation to why the concept flourished in the 1980 s. Shah (1998) defines this environment as
where accounting numbers are important, management are powerful, and auditors, press and
analysts were weak and inconsistent in restraining

General Idi Amin Dada And The Act Of Killing
In both documentaries, General Idi Amin Dada and The Act of Killing, the authors spent a
considerable amount of time with the perpetrators of mass murder. In The Act of Killing Joshua
Oppenheimer gets access to the executioners, gangsters and paramilitary leaders who carried out
millions of mass killings. In General Idi Amin, Barbet Schroeder spent time with the third Ugandan
President and one of the greatest mass murderers, Idi Amin Dada. Schroeder was able to document
his firsthand account of events. These documentaries demonstrate the kind of extraordinary access
the authors were given and their ability to document the unspeakably painful truth.
In both documentaries, the perpetrators seem to have the impression that they are in control of the
documentary. For instance, in The Act of Killing, the executioners set up every scene playing as
victim and perpetrators, and even going as far as hiring other locals to play as victims. They acted
as if they were the producers of the film by creating the conditions, like choosing costumes,
applying makeup, and setting up the villages to burn them down. Throughout the documentary, the
executioners directed the content and edited the scenes. Likewise, Anwar Congo, one of the most
brutal executioner, took the responsibility of sitting in the director s chair. He exclaimed that it is
important to tell the story of the killings in a step by step process. This shows how the author is

My Best Friends Big Day Essay
My Best Friends Big Day My best friend, Malory, and I have been best friends for twelve years.
Malory was like the sister I never had. We did absolutely everything together; you very rarely
spotted one of us without the other tagging along. Sadly, in March of 2014 my best friend was
stolen from me. The thief s name was Jordan. He practically swept her off her feet and took off
running with her. When you were around them you couple almost feel the love in the room, and
when they looked at each other you could see the sparkle in their eyes. On September 7th, 2015
they were on a trip to Fort Lee Virginia. They were out eating dinner and when dessert came out it
was a slice of cake and a plate with the words Will You Marry Me? . Of course she said yes, but
that was the day I realized I was going to have to give my best friend away to her better half. I
could not believe we were planning a wedding; I could have sworn we were just two little blonde
headed goofballs that swore that boys had cooties. It started to sink in the day she picked out her
wedding dress. I was unable to go with her when she picked it out, but when I received a picture of
her in the dress I cried like a baby. The dress was an off white, floor length lace gown that fit her
like a glove. Not only did I cry because she looked beautiful, but because it was one step closer to
the big day. Shortly after she picked out her gown she texted me asking if I would be her maid of
honor. Even though I pretty much

Roe V. Wade
In the notorious pro choice court case, Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court stated that the definition
of privacy is, broad enough to include a woman s decision whether or not to terminate her
pregnancy , and this right , the court believed, was founded upon the concept of personal liberty.
However, the aborting of children is not a liberty nor is it a duty that God has given to any of the
four jurisdictions of authority. On the contrary, God has given each jurisdiction the duty to defend
the life of the unborn. Life has always been properly considered, in the United States, as a God
given unalienable liberty that no man can take from the innocent. Tragically, in one hundred and
ninety seven years, the definition of liberty from time time of... Show more content on

Wade. The court concluded that personal liberty, as the justices defined it in Roe v. Wade, is
founded in the Fourteenth Amendment s concept of personal liberty and restrictions upon state
action, as we feel it is, or, as the District Court determined, in the Ninth Amendment s reservation
of rights to the people, is broad enough to encompass a woman s decision whether or not to
terminate her pregnancy. The court goes further, to explain, The Constitution does not define
person in so many words. Section 1 of the Fourteenth Amendment contains three references to
person. The first, in defining citizens, speaks of persons born or naturalized in the United States.
The word also appears both in the Due Process Clause and in the Equal Protection Clause. Person
is used in other places in the Constitution... But in nearly all these instances, the use of the word is
such that it has application only postnatally. None indicates, with any assurance, that it has any
possible pre natal application. Personal liberty, as defined by the supreme court, is broad enough
to encompass a woman s decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy , but it is no broad
enough to encompass a baby s right to life. Life and all other unalienable rights, the justices claim,
are only protected after birth. This philosophy of law is founded upon man centered truth.
Therefore, the court s definition of liberty promotes the self interest of the mother with no regard to
interest of the

The Complexities and Themes in The Wind in the Willows by...
The story The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame is considered by many critics as being
one of many children s classics that every child should read. This book has had many editions,
most of them illustrated, unlike our version; also, we can find various versions of this story as
films. This story at first glance seems to be a very good children s novel, with animals and
adventure, however it is much more than that, first of all this book has very complex words in it
that even I had to look up. In despite of this, the story has themes and adventures that are very child
oriented. The themes of friendshipand adventure are what tie this whole book together. A book
plot is present in the book, however, it is not what ties the book and it is not very present until the
end of the book. To begin, the themes are what tie this book together. This is obvious as the book
progresses and that no real plot is evident until the middle of the book. This is because most of the
chapters can be read separately as their own stories. This shows that to Kenneth Grahame, the plot
of the story is not what is important but rather the morals and the themes that he will make very
apparent. One of the themes that Kenneth Grahame incorporates into the story, that is present
until the end is the idea of friendship and of good friends. The whole story is showing how Mole,
Badger and Rat who are very good friends to Toad even though Toad does not appreciate them and

Essay on Jim Jones as a Prophet
Jim Jones as a Prophet
November 18, 1978 it all ended. Jim Jones and his
followers committed mass suicide in Guyana, South
America. The history of Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple
is still studied a great deal today. Why did all those
people follow Jones? Were they forced, were they brain
washed, or was Jones just that charismatic. In
this paper we will probe deep into Jonestown and answer
some of these questions. We will be using Max Webber s

so what kind of prophet was he. We will also compare and
contrast Webber s theories of charismatic leadership at
an attempt to understand Jim s activities, successes, and

California Jones appeared to be out primarily for his own

After the subversive tactics of the Peoples Temple,

the perfect utopian society, Guyana South America. Here
they named their society Jonestown. The Church made
everything they needed and were essentially isolated from
the rest of the world. In Guyana, Jim was becoming less

so everyone had somewhat of stock invested, making Jim
less important. When Jim saw his importance fading, he
faked numerous injuries to gain attention. Jim claimed to
have cancer although an autopsy showed no cancer was
present in his body. Even though Jones forbid the use of
drugs, he became dependent on barbiturates and
painkillers. His excuse was that he needed them for the
pain of his non existent injuries. Then as quickly as it
grew it ended. The People Temple killed a congressman
coming to observe their life style. Knowing the
repercussions of this Jones organized a revolutionary
suicide that proved to everyone that they would not

9.There are different types of gargoyles! In the second season s story arc (nicknamed by the fans

Essay on Brain Development in Victims of Child Abuse
Child abuse is a widespread problem in America and beyond. Every year more than 3 million
reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving more than 6 million children(1a).
For many years, experts believed that the negative effects of child abuse, such as emotional
problems, flashbacks to traumatic events, and even learning problems, were psychological
phenomena only, able to be cured with therapy. Now, however, beliefs are being changed with the
help of tools such as MRI imaging, able to detect actual changes in brain anatomy, and it appears
that what doesn t kill you may still permanently weaken you, at least when it comes to child abuse.

The water soluble neurotransmitters, on the other hand, only last for seconds (3). This persistance
of the stress hormones makes it hard for the brain to return to its natural, unstressed state.
The brain develops in such a way that it leaves itself vulnerable to these negative influences. The
prenatal brain develops an overabundance of neurons, some of which are then carefully eliminated
before age 4 (5). In a process similar to this, the amount of synapses between neurons is built up
during early childhood and then pruned back for the next 30 years of life (5). These two processes
are both disturbed by elevated levels of stress hormones (5). The two centers of the brain with the
most postnatal changes, including the growth of new neurons after birth, are the hippocampus,
which is part of the limbic system, and the cerebellar vermis (6). The hippocampus is in charge of
creating and retrieving memories, working together with the other parts of the limbic system, such
as the amygdala, which records the emotions for each memory. The vermis controls the production
and release of two of the catecholamine neurotransmitters, dopamine and norepinephrine (6). Both
the vermis and the limbic system have higher concentrations of receptors for the stress hormone
cortisol than anywhere else in the brain (6). Due to this fact, these still developing areas are the
most vulnerable to the damage done by elevated levels of stress hormones.

this felt need. People of color, specifically African Americans, need to be understood. This is the
only group in the room that does not have an identity. When looking at the group, each man could

Yutaka (Japanese), Hugh (Mexican/Irish) and Roberto (Mexican/Latino/Chicano), Gordon

Codes and Conventions of Genres Essay
Codes and Conventions of Genres
A genre is a particular type of commodity . It has characteristic features that are known to and
recognised by the audiences because the same formula is reproduced many times.
Genre is a French word meaning that refers to types or categories of media products. Soap operas,
situation comedies, police series, quiz shows and news programmes are just some of the genres to
be found in television. Genres are identified by the particular conventions they use which are
recognised through regular contact. Conventions are any elements which are repeated in such a
way that they become familiar, predictable and associated in their use with a particular genre. ...

Black or female newsreaders, for example, have been appearing more frequently in recent years
therefore representing equality in society. However if generic conventions are simply repeated
over and over the films made could be dull and too predictable. The filmmaker relies upon
conventions but also mixes them with his or her own version and ideas in order to produce a
successfully constructed form of genre.
Nearly all stories in any genre are about situations which are disrupted by a problem for e.g., a
peaceful village is wrecked by robbers and one of the children is taken hostage, the villages find
try to find ways of getting the child back the good guy is used to help the narrative along and
therefore resolves the problem. The purpose of the story provides tension for the audience, as on the
other hand the audience wish the problem to be solved but on the other hand the audience want the
story to continue in order to maintain the pleasure. Narratives have to operate strategies for both
moving towards a solution and yet simultaneously putting it off by complaints.
Genres are popular because they deal with universal dilemmas and appeal to universal needs. For
example, the dilemmas could be the hero or heroine fighting to clear his or her name; good finally
overcoming evil. Genres are entertaining in their own ways

Clifford Geertz s Focus on the Power of Religion
Clifford Geertz has focused more on the symbolic power of religion. He has talked about the fact
that it is the symbolic power of religion that has a strong influence on the people. It is the religion,
in accordance to Clifford that helps the people in understanding the place that the people have in
the world. The actions that are undertaken by the people are also defined by the religion. Based on
the arguments that have been given by Clifford, it can be added here that there is a great effect
of religion and the religious values on the kind of politics being observed in the nations (Pals
309). When we talk about the religion, it can be added here that we are talking about the set of
beliefs as well as the ethical values, which are used in the creation of the world and the ways in
which the world is managed. So where does the symbolic state of religion stand in the modern
political world. One of the main facts that need to be mentioned here is that politics is related
with the development certain motivations in men. These motivations need to be powerful and
long lasting. It has been found in the case of the definition of religion by Geertz. He has added
that religion provides a set of symbols that develop long lasting, modulations in the people. There
is no doubt about the fact that the politics and democracy has more to do with the development of
strong states and nations. There needs to be a general order of existence in the nations and states,
which leads to strong

Free Will Scandal In Philosophy Analysis
For centuries, philosophers and scientists alike have debated the nature of consciousness, human
freedom, and moral responsibility. Quantum Mechanics (QM) would indicate that on the smallest,
most fundamental scale of the universe, indeterminism is logically true, and provides room for free
will theory in our universe. Alternatively, adequate determinismproposes that macroscopic events
can be statistically predicted with impressive precision, but that the unpredictability of microscopic
events has no noticeable effect on the macroscopic world. There are other subcategories of
determinism and indeterminism, all of which bring interesting perspectives on the nature of the
reality, and all of which have a large impact on moral responsibility.... Show more content on

For example, there are some philosophers who believe that our genes determine our future entirely,
and some philosophers that believe our actions are dictated by environmental conditioning (Doyle
2001, p. 147). These two perspectives are both faulty and inaccurate. Our genes, however, are only
hereditary units that determine the characteristics of our bodies. Although this may have some
effect on the way we act, most of the information stored in the brain is accumulated throughout life.
This does disqualify biological determinism alone as an explanation for our actions, although it can
still be treated as a contributing factor in a more complete theory of determinism. For example, in a
free will theory that uses O Connor s definition of free will, some biological genetic processes
could explain our primal, animalistic desires, that cause us to act out of character . The
behavioral (environmental) determinism perspective argues that the environment we are reared
in has a massive effect on our perspective on reality; thus, it can be used to predict the decisions
we will make in a given circumstance. This does not, however, prove that all of life is
determined by causal chains, as is posited by determinists, it simply bolsters the idea that nurture
plays a large role in developing our character. It provides no evidence to show that a certain
childhood environment is somehow indicative of the likelihood of certain specific decisions in a
certain situation. Adequate determinism, arguably the most rational of all deterministic schools of
thought, is guided by statistical laws, and does not claim to be able to predict everything perfectly.
It only claims to predict things that have been sufficiently experimented and explained by classical
laws in the macroscopic world and, thus, does not claim to explain issues presented by QM that are
contradictory to

Secular Humanism Essay
The fall 1986 Tennessee court decision on alleged secular humanism in Holt, Rinehart, Winston
textbooks illustrates the continuing controversy over that term.
The term secular humanism is used today to castigate a wide spectrum of our populous. The
derision with which the term is used suggests images of horrid, grotesque monsters. In reality,
however, the term merely consists of two sorely misunderstood words. In combination they suggest
a virus, though singly they are innocuous, if not healthy.

4, pp. 69 ff.), Humanism recognizes the value and dignity of man and makes him the measure of all
things or somehow takes human nature, its limits, or its interests as its theme.
Humanism describes the emphasis that was revived in the Renaissance when the Liberal Arts were
used to distinguish man from beasts. Through letters or scholarship was sought a rebirth of spirit
and spiritual freedom and justification of the claim to rational autonomy. In essence, the
Renaissance was a revival of the capacities and powers of the ancients.
The version of secular humanism expressed in the Humanist Manifesto (I 1933 and II 1973) is
actually naturalism, wherein there is no qualitative difference between man and animal, nor any
supernatural. Man supposedly evolved from lower forms of life and does not possess a soul.
According to secular humanism, man does have reason and will, which he should exercise to
realize human personality. The Humanist Manifestos also explicitly deny the sinful nature of man.
This form of secular humanism is actually a repudiation of true humanistic values. The secular
perversion of humanism is anthropocentrism (self expression/affirmation and human autonomy),
moral relativism, and atheism. A Christian world view contradicts this version of humanism.
A key distinction between naturalistic secular humanism and Christianity would be the view of life
after death. Secular humanism, being limited to this world, would not acknowledge

on, the narrator s tone grows drastically more ecstatic. In these scenes we are exposed to athletes
who are performing in their athletic peak . At first we are given a swimmer who seems really
intrigued as he leads a race. Afterwards a soccer player confidently sweeps at a soccer ball with the
voice over of Oscar commenting,

A Polytheistic Religion
Being a polytheistic religion, Hindus worship multiple Gods. Although a lot of the different
gods are said to be different avatars of the trimurti, in a sense, each God represents an ideal
quality or role one must follow to in order to follow their Dharma. As shown in a lot of the
readings each God has a different quality and these qualities in a sense serve as model behaviors
a true believer must follow in order to follow the path of Dharma. For example, Goddess Durga,
is considered to be a very good role model of Feminist movements in India. It is said that she
represents the the violent and destructive qualities of the Mother Goddess (Shakti). She is known
to protect mankind from the evil by destroying evil forces such as selfishness, anger,

The House Of Mirth By Edith Wharton
In The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton, Lily Bart is a woman with a gambling problem who
further anticipates to marry a man of vast fortune by going to parties. In The Great Gatsby by Scott
F. Fitzgerald, Jay Gatsby is a wealthy man who gained his wealth through criminal activity and
throws parties. In between the both of these novels and the worlds of the two characters, the
common themes of wealth and marriageare shared. Lily and Jay have similar characteristics: Jay
uses his wealth to impress and Lily is interested in marrying a man for his fortune, but turns down
eligible bachelors because she feels that she can do better. Perhaps it d be in both of their best
interests to marry each other. The theme of marriage in The Great Gatsbyis portrayed differently
than it is in The House of Mirth. Being that the two books were originally written in the early
1900s, the values of both wealth and marriage are similar and dissimilar to that of modern times.
The way that marriage in The Great Gatsby appears as is that despite the fact that the spouses
happen to be unfaithful to one another, a sense of loyalty remains present. For example, Daisy
Buchanan, Jay Gatsbys love interest, is married to Tom. Tom is having an affair with Myrtle
Wilson, who is also married to someone else. The ironic turn of events occurs when Tom suspects
that Daisy and Jay are the ones that are having an affair. However, a particularly small shred of
loyalty within Tom and Daisy s marriage is best shown

Vasopressin Hormone Research Paper
The author Julianna Kettlewell, a BBC News Online science staff member, uploaded an article on
Wednesday June 16, 2004 which gives us information on how a new gene can alter the Don Juan
of voles to go from not caring for their wives or children to an excellent home loving husband. She
describes how a new gene called vasopressin boosts pair bonding in voles. Before this experiment,
the prairie voles would not have sentimental relationships with their partners and have multiple
partners at once, likely due to the fact that scientists found that the voles had little vasopressin (V1a)
receptors in their forebrain, known as the ventral pallidum region. Scientists hypothesized that if
they would inject these vasopressin hormones into the forebrain section they would get a taming
effect and make a loving husband.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The former playboys, they stated, changed their ways into the prefect husband. They now focused
on one female, even while others tried to tempt them. The scientists believe that when the voles
have sex with the females the vasopressin hormone is released, and captures by the V1a receptors
which in turn give them a reward system . We think what happens is when the voles mate,
vasopressin activates the reward center, and it really makes the animals pay attention to who they
are mating with, co author Larry Young, from Emory University, Georgia, US, told BBC News
Online. (Kettlewell,

Using Hitler As An Example Of Cultural Relativism
Cultural relativism and subjective relativism was pretty interesting to me, after reading this
chapter I sort of having a better understanding of why have arguments at times. As humans, we
are stuck in our ways and we think that our ways and actions are always right, but that is not
always the case other people might not see it the way we do. Being humans we have to
understand that everyone has their own way of learning, and reading this chapter gave me a new
perspective on that. In my opinion using Hitler as an example was not the best choice. I will never
understand why people Hitler thought that taking someone else life is the right thing to do, but
who am I to disagree with their way of thinking. Unfortunately, Hitler is not the only person

African American Criminal Justice System The Criminal Justice System: African Americans Throughout History in The United States Introduction: In recent years police departments have been brought into the public eye based on the public belief that police brutality has become a norm within the police system in recent years. Yet this has occurred for decades in police departments, not only that but there are multiple forms of brutality to take account of in the criminal justice system specifically towards African Americans. The criminal justice system has become accustomed to creating a system of racial control after the ending of the Jim Crow Era. Causing every level of the system to work in a way that limits the freedom of African Americans the most common being that of police misusing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. The Is A Successful Sports Team Loses Its Place Sometimes, a historically successful sports team loses its place. This may happen suddenly without apparent cause, or gradually as stars age and are unable to be replaced. One such professional team that appears to be going through this process, at least to me, is the 2015 Seattle Seahawks. They ve been to the Super Bowl two years in a row and seemed poised for yet another superlative season at the beginning of the year. Yet, through seven games they ve been nothing if not mediocre. What has caused this drop in production? The Seahawks didn t lose many key players during the offseason and even added some players who appeared to be destined to become superstars with the team. The answer, I believe, lies in the loss of their identity.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But I believe that there is value in becoming lost. Many of the team s young players have experienced nothing but success in the NFL. They must learn how to overcome adversity and hold the lead late in games. If they do happen to save the season, it would be great opportunity for the players to grow as professional athletes and prepare for future triumph. This principle is applicable to more than just football. We can learn valuable lessons from a loss in almost any context. Losing forces us to think hard about our identities and be humble, whether we re part of an NFL team or just small, innocent children. Once, long ago, much like the 2015 Seattle Seahawks, I became lost. I was merely a wee lad, not much older than three or four years, on a family vacation with my sister, parents, and grandparents. We were staying in Port Townsend, Washington in an old military style duplex. The pale blue double door house had the feeling of a 1950 s movie, rather quaint and homey. An ancient apple tree towered over my head just outside the window, too tall for me to climb, yet tempting enough for me to try. My family and I were leaving the duplex to attend some long forgotten tourist activity, when I, the little boy with a vibrant tie dyed t shirt, had to return to the house to retrieve my blue fleece jacket. The beginning of fall weather was just cold enough to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about Sex Pistols and Censorship Sex Pistols and Censorship Punks have always been known for pushing the envelope, but the Sex Pistols pushed it farther than anyone to date in the genre of punk music. The Sex Pistols boisterous lyrics and edgy appearance led for them to be heavily censored by the radio and print media and even banned in many places, Britain and abroad. They were like nothing seen or heard before. Their torn clothes and spiked hair sent a visual message that they did not care what others thought. • 5. The Movie The Golden Eagle The moment did become better. South of us, soaring high in the sky appeared an eagle. Not a bald eagle, but perhaps a golden and it appeared to be closing in on our location as it dropped in altitude. Mesmerized, eyes locked in on the free bird, it ensued on a flight pattern directly at our position. The closer it moved in, the swifter it soared. Suddenly, the realization set in that it was too late to lunge for a camera. The bird rapidly appeared in such proximity the details of the underside wings were sharply in focus. Holly claims the bird s flight pattern locked in on her, and I believe her. For a brief moment, an uncomfortable feeling besieged me as I couldn t understand the bird s intentions of being that close in flight. An actual goose bump or two appeared while a mild chill jettisoned down my back. It was captivating and eerie at the same time. The golden eagle flew directly over Holly swooshing past and soaring out over the ravine. If either Holly or I had hastily searched for a camera, we would have missed the amazing display of soaring free. As with Tim, Holly and I would also have missed the spectacle if we d chosen to pursue the glacier. Locating Tim against the blended landscape became easier as he neared our location. Only a few minutes out, I developed an eagerness to hear a report of what he d seen, and to what distance he managed to the glacier. His return marked a 45 minute absence and he mentioned the ice still remained roughly an hour from his reach. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Literature Review On The Sound Of Music Anukaran Jain The Sound of Music Review What makes a musical appealing? Perhaps it is the melodious songs that leave a lasting impression, or maybe its appeal lies in its dramatic acting that touches the hearts of its audience. Nonetheless in the case of Sound of Music, by Howard Lindsay and Richard Crouse, this musical spectacle proves itself by crafting a complete narrative, having an accomplished and versatile cast, and strongly relating to the audience. In order for a musical to capture the attention of its audience, the mix between music and acting have to be perfect. The Sound of Music gets around this problem by flawlessly integrating songs with the story to create a truly unique and complete narrative. This can be shown by the pairing of at least one song with every scene. Furthermore each song adds to the existing storyline in order to further refine it. For instance, in Scene 5, when Maria, played by Jill Christine Wiley, meets the children of the Von Trapp family, she teaches them about music. Hence the song Do Re me is sung by the characters. Not only is this song a part of the musical, but it also adds to the performance by being used as a means to enlighten the children about the Sound of Music. Another example is that of the song in scene 6, when Rolf and Lisel, played by Chad B Campbell and Keslie Ward respectively, secretly meet up and sing and dance in the rain. Again, the piece, Sixteen Going on Seventeen acts as an apparatus for adding to the plotline by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. CFD Via Large Eddy Simulation Case Study In chapter 3, it was shown that CFD via Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence closure is capable of simulating ABL wind characteristics with a better agreement in compare to target theoretical wind profiles for open terrain condition rather than the other turbulence closures of k Оµ and Reynolds Stress Model (RSM). It is because LES uses a spatial filtering operation to separate the larger eddies (which are more anisotropic) and smaller eddies (which are nearly isotropic). However, the prescribed inlet velocity in chapter 3 for CFD model of the open jet facility was a uniform windover the height of test section, and it was the rule of planks arrangement to produce the final target wind profile. Furthermore, in chapter 4, some important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For wind engineering applications and simulation of flow around buildings, the validation can be defined into two main phases, including: (1) wind flow characteristics validation; and, (2) validation of simulated pressures on surfaces of building [99]. In this chapter, the CFD LES is carried out to simulate the inflow turbulence content in such a way to compensate the lack of large eddies in the flow. The generated transient inflow should possess natural wind characteristics with both time (temporal) and space (spatial) correlations. In this chapter, in order to make certain that the developed CFD LES model of a low rise building and the inlet wind velocity fluctuations are in accordance to real world ABL properties, the full scale benchmark data from the Wind Engineering Research Field Laboratory (WERFL) at Texas Tech University (TTU) are used as field recorded wind pressure and velocity data. In addition, wind tunnel measurement from NIST/UWO and open jet testing at LSU are compared with CFD LES results. The effects of correlation of wind loading on the roof of low rise buildings are investigated for each cases as well. In addition, the values of peak pressure coefficients are compared with external pressure coefficients, GCp, specified for components and cladding (C C) in ASCE 7 10. Mrs. Nasrine s son is promised luxuries in the afterlife if they die in war (Satrapi 100). This simple view of a teenager s life and their usage leads teenagers to rebel. Marjane s cousin, Shahab also recalls seeing the teenagers being thrown into the field and faced with immediate death (Satrapi 101,102). This website was almost like a tutorial that walked step by step through the disability, causes, and treatments. I found that in definition the words Cerebral Palsy are used to describe a medical condition that affects control of the muscles. Cerebral means anything in the head and palsy refers to anything wrong with control of the muscles or joints in the body. If someone has cerebral palsy it means that because of an injury to their brain (that s the cerebral part) they are not able to use some of the muscles in their body in the normal way (that s the palsy part). I wrote the different types below to help understand each one individually. 1. Spastic Cerebral Palsy If muscle tone is too high or too tight, the term spastic is used to describe the type of cerebral palsy. Children with spastic CP have stiff and jerky movements because their muscles are too tight. They often have a hard time moving from one position to another or letting go of something in their hand. This is the most common type of CP. About half of all people with CP have spastic CP. 2. Ataxic Cerebral Palsy Low muscle tone and poor coordination of movements is described as ataxic CP. Kids with ataxic CP look very unsteady and shaky. They have a lot of shakiness, like a tremor you might have seen in a very old person, especially when they are trying to do something like write or turn a page or cut with scissors. They also often have very poor balance and may be very unsteady when they walk. Because of the shaky movements and problems coordinating their muscles, kids with ataxic CP may take longer to finish writing or art projects. 3. Even though in the past many stood up for equality and to stop racism and discrimination, it still occurs. In this nation of freedom and equality, there are still many people who believe that their raceis superior to others. These beliefs are the ones that destroy our nation and affect the lives of many. The people affected are not limited by their age group, sex, social status, or by their education level. Their beliefs can cause them to attack other groups verbally or in silence and even reaching to the point of violence. These racist groups take advantage especially of the illegal Latino population in doing these things, because they believe they have no rights due to their illegal status here in the United States. Also these groups know that many of these Hispanics will not go to police to report these incidents of discrimination and abuse, because they are fearful that in doing so they might get deported. They also discriminate the legal Latinos, because in their eyes they are the same as the illegal ones. The article also portrays the horrific actions of discrimination racist extremist do against Latinos. Eviatar reports the examples of the abuse by stating, a young mother was arrested and jailed when she asked to be paid for her work in a Tennessee cheese factory; a migrant bean picker whose life savings were confiscated by police during a traffic stop, and a rapist in Georgia going unpunished because his 13 year old victim is undocumented (par 3). The hate they feel towards this minority group, cause them to commit acts that are unjustifiable. They inflict pain and psychological suffering to Hispanics. This behavior is the cause racism, that as you see can harm to other ethnicities at a great level. Racialism also comes to play in this case, because these groups believe that they are biologically superior to Hispanics and other ethnicities and races as well. Nile River Impact Of Egypt The Nile River helped Egypt economically, socially, and religiously, and as a result Egypt was named the Gift of the Nile because of the given history of these great waters. The Nile has continued for centuries to provide whats necessary for the people of Egypt and their daily lives. The Nile River is truly a blessing to these people and Egyptwould not be the same without it. Without the Nile, Egypt would have remained a hot desert. Egypt s farmers were depending on the river to flood the area, so that there would be fertile lands. With fertile lands, the farmers were able to plant crops, that wouldn t die and be healthy. The main crops that were planted in Egypt were cotton, corn, wheat, barley, rice, sugar cane, sorghum, fruits, vegetables, and dates. Every year, when the Nile River flooded, the soil was filled with nutrients for all these crops to grow. One thing that the Nile River really helped with, was that the river provided so many jobs to many people living in Egypt. Without the Nile River, there would be many unemployed, which means many that were impecunious. Having so many people with little money meant that for those who did work, they wouldn t get as much money because a lot of the people wouldn t be able to afford anything. Some of these jobs included farmers, because of the flooding so the farmers could plant crops. Then there were fishermen, who could fish from the Nile River to sell out to the people which was another way of having food. Without the river, there could be no fishermen to go fishing as the river. Another important job were the sailors, which would move the boats up and down the river. Although the really is that many adolescents are obtaining part time employment while in high school. According Santrock (2014) It is estimated that 80 to 90 percent of adolescents are employed at some point during high school(p.387). I do agree that there are some potentially positive influences. Some of the advantageous that a working adolescent may experience are the development of autonomy, social learning, and intergenerational harmony and contribute to the continuity between adolescence and adulthood (Greenberger Steinberg, 1981. p.691). However, I believe that there are much more disadvantages than advantageous. One of the disadvantages is that they may not have time for school, family, and friends. • 15. Nietzsche s Philosophy On The Priestly Figure Friedrich Nietzsche puts forth the image of the priestly figure in what seems to be a positive and negative manner. Priests are the greatest haters in the world but they are also the most intelligent (p.17). Nietzsche s position, according to me, seems ambivalent due to the context in which he refers to them is altering. There is no clear light in which the priestly figure is shown to be inherently positive or negative. In this paper, I will bring in his claims, explicate Nietzsche s standpoint on the priestly figure and how they are ambiguous as they are not thoroughly positive or negative. To begin with, Nietzsche was a relentless critic of morality and questioned the concept of good and bad. Similarly, he proposed a question on whether the self is an affirmation of good or negation of evil. He establishes that good/evil and good/bad come from two distinct origins, where the two good s radically oppose each other. For Nietzsche, this is what seems like the slave morality, which says that evil equates to what is good and the master morality that equates bad to good. Slave morality proposes that if you are evil then I am good while the master morality says if I am good, then you bad. This is essentially who the priest is. They are those who feel powerless in situations where there is physical power present. A venomous hatred is then manifested for the powerful as they are supposed to be spiritually powerful people. It is fair to say that the evidences presented in for example table 4 and 5 give a logical support to the assertions and observations made by the author. Overall, I believe the author has been successful in terms of providing the reader an understanding and depths as to what are the key drivers behind the use of this practice. The paper lightly attempts to outline an important question why or for how long these motivators and constraints support creative accounting schemes appear to go undetected. General Idi Amin Dada And The Act Of Killing In both documentaries, General Idi Amin Dada and The Act of Killing, the authors spent a considerable amount of time with the perpetrators of mass murder. In The Act of Killing Joshua Oppenheimer gets access to the executioners, gangsters and paramilitary leaders who carried out millions of mass killings. In General Idi Amin, Barbet Schroeder spent time with the third Ugandan President and one of the greatest mass murderers, Idi Amin Dada. Schroeder was able to document his firsthand account of events. These documentaries demonstrate the kind of extraordinary access the authors were given and their ability to document the unspeakably painful truth. In both documentaries, the perpetrators seem to have the impression that they are in control of the documentary. For instance, in The Act of Killing, the executioners set up every scene playing as victim and perpetrators, and even going as far as hiring other locals to play as victims. They acted as if they were the producers of the film by creating the conditions, like choosing costumes, applying makeup, and setting up the villages to burn them down. Throughout the documentary, the executioners directed the content and edited the scenes. Likewise, Anwar Congo, one of the most brutal executioner, took the responsibility of sitting in the director s chair. We did absolutely everything together; you very rarely spotted one of us without the other tagging along. Sadly, in March of 2014 my best friend was stolen from me. The thief s name was Jordan. When you were around them you couple almost feel the love in the room, and when they looked at each other you could see the sparkle in their eyes. On September 7th, 2015 they were on a trip to Fort Lee Virginia. They were out eating dinner and when dessert came out it was a slice of cake and a plate with the words Will You Marry Me? . Of course she said yes, but that was the day I realized I was going to have to give my best friend away to her better half. I could not believe we were planning a wedding; I could have sworn we were just two little blonde headed goofballs that swore that boys had cooties. It started to sink in the day she picked out her wedding dress. I was unable to go with her when she picked it out, but when I received a picture of her in the dress I cried like a baby. The dress was an off white, floor length lace gown that fit her like a glove. Not only did I cry because she looked beautiful, but because it was one step closer to the big day. The court goes further, to explain, The Constitution does not define person in so many words. Section 1 of the Fourteenth Amendment contains three references to person. The story The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame is considered by many critics as being one of many children s classics that every child should read. This book has had many editions, most of them illustrated, unlike our version; also, we can find various versions of this story as films. This story at first glance seems to be a very good children s novel, with animals and adventure, however it is much more than that, first of all this book has very complex words in it that even I had to look up. In despite of this, the story has themes and adventures that are very child oriented. The themes of friendshipand adventure are what tie this whole book together. A book plot is present in the book, however, it is not what ties the book and it is not very present until the end of the book. To begin, the themes are what tie this book together. This is obvious as the book progresses and that no real plot is evident until the middle of the book. This is because most of the chapters can be read separately as their own stories. This shows that to Kenneth Grahame, the plot of the story is not what is important but rather the morals and the themes that he will make very apparent. One of the themes that Kenneth Grahame incorporates into the story, that is present until the end is the idea of friendship and of good friends. The prenatal brain develops an overabundance of neurons, some of which are then carefully eliminated before age 4 (5). In a process similar to this, the amount of synapses between neurons is built up during early childhood and then pruned back for the next 30 years of life (5). These two processes are both disturbed by elevated levels of stress hormones (5). The two centers of the brain with the most postnatal changes, including the growth of new neurons after birth, are the hippocampus, which is part of the limbic system, and the cerebellar vermis (6). The hippocampus is in charge of creating and retrieving memories, working together with the other parts of the limbic system, such as the amygdala, which records the emotions for each memory. The vermis controls the production and release of two of the catecholamine neurotransmitters, dopamine and norepinephrine (6). Nearly all stories in any genre are about situations which are disrupted by a problem for e.g., a peaceful village is wrecked by robbers and one of the children is taken hostage, the villages find try to find ways of getting the child back the good guy is used to help the narrative along and therefore resolves the problem. The purpose of the story provides tension for the audience, as on the other hand the audience wish the problem to be solved but on the other hand the audience want the story to continue in order to maintain the pleasure. Narratives have to operate strategies for both moving towards a solution and yet simultaneously putting it off by complaints. Genres are popular because they deal with universal dilemmas and appeal to universal needs. For example, the dilemmas could be the hero or heroine fighting to clear his or her name; good finally overcoming evil. Genres are entertaining in their own ways ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Clifford Geertz s Focus on the Power of Religion Clifford Geertz has focused more on the symbolic power of religion. He has talked about the fact that it is the symbolic power of religion that has a strong influence on the people. It is the religion, in accordance to Clifford that helps the people in understanding the place that the people have in the world. The actions that are undertaken by the people are also defined by the religion. Based on the arguments that have been given by Clifford, it can be added here that there is a great effect of religion and the religious values on the kind of politics being observed in the nations (Pals 309). When we talk about the religion, it can be added here that we are talking about the set of beliefs as well as the ethical values, which are used in the creation of the world and the ways in which the world is managed. So where does the symbolic state of religion stand in the modern political world. One of the main facts that need to be mentioned here is that politics is related with the development certain motivations in men. These motivations need to be powerful and long lasting. It has been found in the case of the definition of religion by Geertz. He has added that religion provides a set of symbols that develop long lasting, modulations in the people. There is no doubt about the fact that the politics and democracy has more to do with the development of strong states and nations. There needs to be a general order of existence in the nations and states, which leads to strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Free Will Scandal In Philosophy Analysis For centuries, philosophers and scientists alike have debated the nature of consciousness, human freedom, and moral responsibility. Quantum Mechanics (QM) would indicate that on the smallest, most fundamental scale of the universe, indeterminism is logically true, and provides room for free will theory in our universe. Alternatively, adequate determinismproposes that macroscopic events can be statistically predicted with impressive precision, but that the unpredictability of microscopic events has no noticeable effect on the macroscopic world. There are other subcategories of determinism and indeterminism, all of which bring interesting perspectives on the nature of the reality, and all of which have a large impact on moral responsibility.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, there are some philosophers who believe that our genes determine our future entirely, and some philosophers that believe our actions are dictated by environmental conditioning (Doyle 2001, p. 147). These two perspectives are both faulty and inaccurate. Our genes, however, are only hereditary units that determine the characteristics of our bodies. Although this may have some effect on the way we act, most of the information stored in the brain is accumulated throughout life. This does disqualify biological determinism alone as an explanation for our actions, although it can still be treated as a contributing factor in a more complete theory of determinism. For example, in a free will theory that uses O Connor s definition of free will, some biological genetic processes could explain our primal, animalistic desires, that cause us to act out of character . The behavioral (environmental) determinism perspective argues that the environment we are reared in has a massive effect on our perspective on reality; thus, it can be used to predict the decisions we will make in a given circumstance. This does not, however, prove that all of life is determined by causal chains, as is posited by determinists, it simply bolsters the idea that nurture plays a large role in developing our character. It provides no evidence to show that a certain childhood environment is somehow indicative of the likelihood of certain specific decisions in a certain situation. Adequate determinism, arguably the most rational of all deterministic schools of thought, is guided by statistical laws, and does not claim to be able to predict everything perfectly. It only claims to predict things that have been sufficiently experimented and explained by classical laws in the macroscopic world and, thus, does not claim to explain issues presented by QM that are contradictory to ... • 36. Secular Humanism Essay The fall 1986 Tennessee court decision on alleged secular humanism in Holt, Rinehart, Winston textbooks illustrates the continuing controversy over that term. The term secular humanism is used today to castigate a wide spectrum of our populous. The derision with which the term is used suggests images of horrid, grotesque monsters. In reality, however, the term merely consists of two sorely misunderstood words. In combination they suggest a virus, though singly they are innocuous, if not healthy. Humanism describes the emphasis that was revived in the Renaissance when the Liberal Arts were used to distinguish man from beasts. Through letters or scholarship was sought a rebirth of spirit and spiritual freedom and justification of the claim to rational autonomy. In essence, the Renaissance was a revival of the capacities and powers of the ancients. The version of secular humanism expressed in the Humanist Manifesto (I 1933 and II 1973) is actually naturalism, wherein there is no qualitative difference between man and animal, nor any supernatural. Man supposedly evolved from lower forms of life and does not possess a soul. According to secular humanism, man does have reason and will, which he should exercise to realize human personality. The Humanist Manifestos also explicitly deny the sinful nature of man. This form of secular humanism is actually a repudiation of true humanistic values. The secular perversion of humanism is anthropocentrism (self expression/affirmation and human autonomy), moral relativism, and atheism. A Christian world view contradicts this version of humanism. A key distinction between naturalistic secular humanism and Christianity would be the view of life after death. Secular humanism, being limited to this world, would not acknowledge ... The House Of Mirth By Edith Wharton In The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton, Lily Bart is a woman with a gambling problem who further anticipates to marry a man of vast fortune by going to parties. In The Great Gatsby by Scott F. Fitzgerald, Jay Gatsby is a wealthy man who gained his wealth through criminal activity and throws parties. In between the both of these novels and the worlds of the two characters, the common themes of wealth and marriageare shared. Lily and Jay have similar characteristics: Jay uses his wealth to impress and Lily is interested in marrying a man for his fortune, but turns down eligible bachelors because she feels that she can do better. Perhaps it d be in both of their best interests to marry each other. The theme of marriage in The Great Gatsbyis portrayed differently than it is in The House of Mirth. Being that the two books were originally written in the early 1900s, the values of both wealth and marriage are similar and dissimilar to that of modern times. The way that marriage in The Great Gatsby appears as is that despite the fact that the spouses happen to be unfaithful to one another, a sense of loyalty remains present. For example, Daisy Buchanan, Jay Gatsbys love interest, is married to Tom. Tom is having an affair with Myrtle Wilson, who is also married to someone else. • 41. Vasopressin Hormone Research Paper The author Julianna Kettlewell, a BBC News Online science staff member, uploaded an article on Wednesday June 16, 2004 which gives us information on how a new gene can alter the Don Juan of voles to go from not caring for their wives or children to an excellent home loving husband. She describes how a new gene called vasopressin boosts pair bonding in voles. Before this experiment, the prairie voles would not have sentimental relationships with their partners and have multiple partners at once, likely due to the fact that scientists found that the voles had little vasopressin (V1a) receptors in their forebrain, known as the ventral pallidum region. Scientists hypothesized that if they would inject these vasopressin hormones into the forebrain section they would get a taming effect and make a loving husband.... We think what happens is when the voles mate, vasopressin activates the reward center, and it really makes the animals pay attention to who they are mating with, co author Larry Young, from Emory University, Georgia, US, told BBC News Online. Using Hitler As An Example Of Cultural Relativism Cultural relativism and subjective relativism was pretty interesting to me, after reading this chapter I sort of having a better understanding of why have arguments at times. As humans, we are stuck in our ways and we think that our ways and actions are always right, but that is not always the case other people might not see it the way we do. Being humans we have to understand that everyone has their own way of learning, and reading this chapter gave me a new perspective on that.
