A Mock Prison Environment By Philip Zimbardo
Philip Zimbardo, who categorizes himself as good fell victim to the situation of the Stanford
Prisons Experiment (SPE). Even though it was a mock prison environment, Zimbardo fell heavily
invested in his role as superintendent and lead investigator of the SPE, whose main concern is to
make sure the SPE continues running, led him to accept that his actions were normal. Which in
turn allowed him to ignore his moral conscience; allowing for the suffering from the participants
surrounding the SPE. When Zimbardo came to the decision to end the program, disconnecting from
his both his roles he was able to realize that he was not in control, that the situation had controlled
his logic affecting his actions. Zimbardo states, The negative... Show more content on

The situation of the SPE controlled the Zimbardo and relieved him of conscience that allows him

capable of evil when they have accepted their situation.

while serving in United States military for the navy seal as a sniper he accepted his situation
that required him to perform evil acts. Kyle is what we call an all American boy. He was raised
in the church on a Texas ranch. He enjoyed the outdoors. Eventually, Kyle joined the United
States Military. When he left the military, highly decorated. He started his own security
business. In addition, started working with veterans and helping his fellow soldiers that were
struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD). If we were going to label Kyle and
put him under a category, Kyle is a good person. Kyle was raised in a proper home, served his
country, contributed to society and served his community. However, during his tour in
Afghanistan, he would transform into another person once he accepted his situation he was no

Explain The Conflict Perspective
The conflict perspective, on the other hand notes that power plays an integral role in defining
what should be regarded as devious behavior. The group in power, such as Jerry Springer and
Maury impose to the people what is deviant and punished on stage while seemingly entrenching
what they regard as good even if it does not go down well with what society deems acceptable.
Further, the conflict theory provides another alternative to the perspective on social life regarding
talk shows. This perspective stresses that society is made up of groups that are competing with one
another for scarce resources. There seem to be some power struggles in the midst of the alliances
or cooperation that may prevail on the surface. The machinery of control represents

How Have New Emphases And Interpretative Lenses Is History
How have new emphases and interpretative lenses emphasizing history from below affected the
more traditional subfields of political, military, diplomatic, and sectional history and how do they
affect world history. During the past century these four subfields have evolved within themselves to
rise from their traditional methodologies of study to incorporating social and cultural historiography
to better analyze their subject matter; while turning from an inner study, as it applies to the United
States, towards a more world view. The authors of this week s reading project s a theme or
commonality that has affected their subfield from the turn of the century until now. They all
mention Frederick Jackson Turner s reading of his famous paper, The Significance of the Frontier
in American History, where he argued that frontier settlement, and not institutional and spiritual
inheritance from the Old World, accounted for the origins and peculiar development of American
democracy. This was the first time interpretations of social and cultural were utilized in the studies
of particular subfields that started the Progressive era that lasted until the start of World War II.
During this period studies were from the bottom up versus the old top to bottom approach; going
from the great men and great events, to the study of the ordinary people and incorporating
previously neglected groups like women and black. Following the war the counter Progressive or

Benefits Of A New Allergy Medicine
After conducting a research experiment to find the benefits of a new allergy medicine, it has
been discovered that Wilf Whitmore had made a simple error in his calculations of the dosage
used. The dosage Whitmore was using was ten times bigger than what he had thought. This error
was discovered by Whitmore s professor, Dr. Sparrow, who is the only who has discovered the
error. There are many different things, both good and bad, that Dr. Sparrow could do to handle the
situation, but if she choses not to do anything she is making a very unethical decision.
Some of the things that we know to be true are that Dr. Sparrow had a few doubts about Whitmore
s understanding of science and his scientific abilities. It is shown that Dr. Sparrow had reasonable
doubt due to the fact that Whitmore had indeed messed up the experiment. We also know that
many other people had doubts about the potency of the drug. This is due to the fact that it was so
efficient at the low doses Whitmore had originally claimed he was using. Another fact given to us
is that Whitmore had left because he was nervous about his career in academic research and decided
to leave the scientific field to pursue an education at law school. Lastly the most important fact that
we know if that WHitmore definitely messed up his calculations and was using a dose that was ten
times bigger than what he had thought. This is incredibly important because it throws the entire
experiment off and falsifies the results.

Essay on Koala
Marsupials
The Koala
Among the many different marsupials in the world, there is one that stands out and is recognized,
not only for its looks, but also for the hardships that it deals with in being a koala. The koala
originated in Australia, and was discovered by trappers around the time of 1798. Many rare and
exotic animals have been found in Australia, because of its remoteness and isolation from most of
the civilized world. Australia has been described as a huge ark, a giant lifeboat, cut off from
contact with the rest of the world and carrying with it a group of unique creatures (Serventy 1975).
The creatures that inhabit Australia are made up of many different classifications of animal groups
that have found themselves all living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once on the tree it can either jump foot by foot up until they reach safety, or slowly climb to any
given point in the forest by climbing from tree to tree.
The koala is also a fantastic swimmer. Although they are very strong swimmers they seem to be
somewhat clumsy moving along with almost all of its body submerged. There are several
sightings of the koala swimming in bays and along reefs in order to avoid walking on land and
take the risk of running into predators.
Mating season in the jungles of Australia is extremely noticeable, due to the call of the koala
during this time. The koala s call is described as a harsh, grating sound, like a handsaw going
through a thin board (Phillips 1990). There is one story in which a man was working with a
chain saw when he looked up and saw a large koala coming toward him. The animal grabbed him
by the pants and bit his leg and wrist, when it was captured and placed in a box the animal made
a very loud, growling cry (Serventy 1975). It is believed that when the koala heard the noise of
the chain saw it felt it had to defend its territory with any means necessary. When the baby koala is
born it is just a little bit bigger than a human fingernail. During its youth it spends its time in its
mothers pouch, just like the ever famous Australian animal the kangaroo. While in the pouch there
are the teats of the mother for the baby to feed on. The mother koala can continue all of her daily
routine with the baby in the pouch. When the

Women s Magazines Are Littered With Beauty Advertisements
Women s magazines are littered with beauty advertisements. On one page, a mascara ad
promises thick and long lashes as a symmetrically faced woman holds the wand to her eyes. Her
skin is pore less and she appears mechanical.. Turn the page and an actress/model stands with legs
the circumference of an arm. She is modeling jeans, yet they are barely on her body. This kind of
advertisingdoes not end at the actual advertisements. The truth is that the magazineitself is an
advertisement of its reader s inadequacy. Furthermore, the magazine as a whole serves as an
advertisement to a woman s assumed lack of confidence. Almost every product featured in
popular women s magazines is a paid placement. It s no secret that magazine publications are
struggling as more consumers migrate to online platforms. Without subscriber funding,
publications are forced to fund their company in various ways similar to how a person will work
many jobs in order to pay rent. Paid promotional articles and features fill this gap created by
declining subscribers. This makes all of the adverts and all of the articles about fat loss and shiny
hair even more trivial and unsubstantial. This issue could be excused, but it remains hard to ignore
considering how much lack of diversity factors into this nook of the publication world.
Cosmopolitan s slogan is Fun. Fearless. Female. which indicates that it is geared towards an
audience of women that is young and old, multi racial, thick or thin. The contents

Kurt Lewin s Change Management Theory
Change management theory:
In order for the initiative of bedside handover with the use of ISBAR framework to be implemented
and work efficiently, a change management theory can be applied. One change management theory
that is commonly used amongst nurses in different specialty areas is Kurt Lewin s change
management theory. This theory is of particular relevance to my initiative as in the last stage of the
theory involves sustainability which is of great importance when it comes to delivery quality care.
Lewin s change management theory involves three steps; unfreeze, change and refreeze. From
Lewin s perspective, the process of change begins with creating the perception that change is
needed, then moves onto the actual desirable level of change and lastly, solidifying the new
behaviour as the new normal (Burnes, 2004). In Lewin s first stage, unfreezing is about
encouraging people to think about the current situation and helping them realise the need for
change (Kassean Jagoo, 2005). The first move is therefore is to raise awareness for the need for
change by communicating the proposed change to all those who are going to be affected by the
initiative, such as the patients, charge nurse and nurses. Making research articles about the
benefits of bedside handover available for people to read is another way to raise awareness. Lastly,
displaying posters of the new initiative around the ward can be done as another tool to help
implement the change. For the change

The Pros And Cons Of Capitalism
On December 25, 1991, the hammer and sickle of the Soviet Union lowered for the last time.
After 69 years of enjoying a place in history as a world superpower, the massive territory dissolved
into 12 independent states. The Bush administration watched in awe as their main enemy crumbled
to dust. This was another victory for freedom, democracy, and capitalism. Communism, which lives
by the abolition of private property, is the exact opposite of capitalism, where individuals own their
own property and make money dependent on how much they work. There have been very few
communist countries, and all have been lead by dictators. Which form of economy is better? On
one end of the economic spectrum is capitalism. Capitalism is attributed to the Western world and
allows the common person to buy property. By definition, Capitalism is an economic systemin
which capital goods are owned by private individuals or businesses. The production of goods and
services is based on supply and demand in the general market (market economy), rather than
through central planning (planned economy or command economy), (Investopedia 1). This means
that people own everything and the profits of their property go to them. People and businesses also
control production and distribution of goods and the transfer of wealth. The positives of capitalism
are that people have opportunity to be wealthy and live life in comfort by working hard and
contributing to society. This feature attracts many immigrants

Types Of E Learning Synchronous And Asynchronous
Through research I have learned that there are two types of e learning synchronous and
asynchronous. Synchronous referring to a specific hour where both parties meet for the course.
Asynchronous is using computer sources for course material and contact with instructor is done
through online programs (Bubatu). Synchronous it the type of training one would expect from a
traditional classroom training. However, today s traditional classroom training also incorporates e
learning tools. Whether the instructor is using a power point presentation, video, or material
found on a website, it s important to recognize that technology has become very important for
classroom training. Besides my high school years, I have yet to see an educator teach with only a
book in hand. As technology changes, so does asynchronous training. Newer methods of online
training become available every day. E Learning has been around for decades. Knowing that e
learning is constantly changing before our eyes, let s look at how e learning has evolved over time.
According to Nicoleta Florea, There are three generations of e learning. First generation referring to
print based correspondence. Second generation refers to the use of multimedia an instructor
available. Third generation is training done by individuals/teams with little to no guidance from an
educator . First generation training was successful but obviously had its downfalls. Print based
training gave individuals access to training but no one to

Glycogen In Muscle And Liver Tissue Lab Report
Post Mortem Presence of Glycogen in Muscle and Liver Tissue
Background
There are four main classes of macromolecules: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids.
For this experiment the main focus will go to the carbohydrates, more specifically the
polysaccharides. Polysaccharides consist of three or more sugar molecules linked together (
macromolecules ) or one sugar derivative are called homopolysaccharides.( polysaccharides 1)
Homopolysaccharides are glucose that includes glycogen and starch, which is the storage of
carbohydrates in animals and plants.( polysaccharides 2) During the second lab of this course, one
of the technique to determine if something had polysaccharides in it was using the Iodine test.
Starch and glycogen units have a unique geometry that is different from cellulose and chitin which
have ОІ 1,4 bonds. ( macromolecules ) The specific geometry of the link in starch and glycogen

Glycogen is indicated by the colour change of iodine from brown to dark blue. Both the muscle
and liver tissue will be tested in the same manner. First, 0.5 grams of tissue will be cut finely with
a scalpel and then transferred to a test tube. Next, the test tube will be filled with 10 mL of distilled
water and 0.1 mL of an iodine solution. Lastly, the solution shall be decanted from the test tube into
a cuvette and its reflection tested with a photospectrometer that has been calibrated to a distilled
water and iodine solution. If the solution contains glycogen, the photospectrometer will show a
reflection peak in the blue/purple spectrum of light (400nm 500nm). If glycogen is not present in
solution no peaks should be present in the 400nm 500nm wavelength as the photospectrometer was
normed to a distilled water and iodine solution. All of the tests will be performed three times per

information concerning the behavior of the humans and hopefully will lead to more effective
studies in the future.
Based on these observations, it is evident that we are not on our own planet of Nacirema and the
beings of this planet are not like us at all. However, much has been learned from our trip here
about the personalities and motives of these residents. Nonetheless, I believe that based on our
findings we will not be making a trip back here until we have prepared ourselves enough in the

Portrayal Of Servants In Volpone
The portrayal of servants in Shakespeare s and Jonson s plays is contrasting. In Jonson s city
comedies servants are depicted as unethical, manipulating their masters greed and egocentrism in
order to fulfill their own plans and goals. On the other hand, in Shakespeare s pastoral comedies
servants are portrayed as loyal, devoted, reliable and helpful to their masters.
To be more specific, in Jonson s city comedy Volpone the city is portrayed as a dog eat dog,
antagonistic competitive world which is profit orientated, where everything is commodified. In
other words, it is a society that is governed only by greed and profit. Therefore, almost all of his
characters are greedy for power, money, food, alcohol or sex. Jonson satirizes that kind of
characters because he wants his theater to be educating. In the end, usually such greed, such
deception, such immoral behaviors are punished.
Interestingly, the character names in Volpone reveal their personalities elements. Jonson s
connection to Aesop s Fables is obvious, as all the character names in Volpone recall animals,
insects or birds. For example Volpone means fox in Italian, Mosca means Fly etc. In that sense,
Volpone draws from a tradition of Aesopian beast fables. Jonson wants to create an allegory of
greed and also emphasizes that social and religious principles yield to greed and avarice; human
beings are reduced to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In particular, Jonson presents his servants as deceitful, greedy and unfaithful in order to emphasize
on the society s corruption. Thus, Jonson is didactic and his agenda is to satirize the folly in the
city, to show that things are not right, to show that people should change, that we should go back
and find our ideals, that we should go beyond our materialism. What is more, his satire involves
representatives from all classes, from the servants to the thieves and pickpockets, to merchants,

Future Choice Analysis
For these criterion, I ranked each of my alternatives accordingly. For tuition, I found that the best
choices for me based on that criteria would be either CU Boulder or Mines. Both of these
schools have generally the same tuition, and both are the lowest out of my choices. The lowest
ranked choice is MIT for this criteria, due to the fact that it is over $70,000 to attend for a tuition
year. The other choices generally ranged from $40,000 $50,000. For the criteria of the size of the
campus, I found that both Colorado School of Minesand Vanderbilt both appealed to me the most.
Colorado School of Mines has a decent campus with under 20,000 students. Vanderbilt in its whole
may have many students, but its Collegeof Engineering is also decent in its size. The lowest rank
college is Harvard. Even though it is a private college, I feel that the size of the campus does not
fit well with the small, inclusive size that I am looking for. The other colleges vary in between
with their size, and in all honest, they are sizes that I am apathetic to. When choosing the
colleges that I applied for, I automatically only applied to the colleges that I knew had my major.

car fan. He was born in Kyabram and moved to Melbourne when he was 5 years old, where he
was raised in St Albans. As cousins we naturally met as children, and for as long as I can

Pros And Cons Of School Shootings
School shootings are terrifying and a big problem in today s society. Schools have added
lockdown drills, bullet proof glass and metal detectors. School should be a safe area for children
to learn instead of fearing for their life. Instead of buying metal detectors and hiring more
officers, there is a much easier solution in order to decrease and prevent school shootings. We
have to be more alert about securing weapons at home and being aware of suspicious behavior at
school in order to keep children and faculty safe. As a child left for school one morning, his parents
thought that he had been acting very odd and different. Even with their suspicion, they said
goodbye and let their son go to school.
It wasn t till later when they had noticed an empty spot in their gun case where a pistol and shotgun
used to sit. They rushed to the school and while searching through the halls for their son, their ears
echoed with a gunshot from one of the classrooms. Following the gunshot, they rushed into the
classroom and immediately disarmed and physically detained their son until police arrived. The
only damages the son had caused, was a plate sized hole in the ceiling. If the parents had gotten to
the school even one minute later, their son could have been labeled as a murderer.
It is sickening to know that a child was able to sneak past his parents, teachers, and students with
two firearms on his body. His parents were lucky they arrived when they did because many of
people could have been hurt or even worse murdered. Obviously, the child that brought the two
firearms to school should be the one punished, but what about the parents. The parents that did not
have a weapon that could easily end someone s life, properly locked up or hidden away. If parents
are going to carelessly leave firearms unlocked with ammo nearby, what is stopping a child from
doing wrong with that firearm? Leaving firearms unlocked with any aged child around, hoping they
don t touch it is a dangerous and irresponsible act.
When school shootings occur, the individual that brings the weapon to school should be the one
punished. However, when the parents irresponsibly leave a firearm unlocked they should face a
punishment as well. 68% of school

pieces incorporate primitivist imagery into their engagement with the surreal. However, where
Matta uses this imagery to further Freudian shock value and bring forward abject discomfort, Lam

The Roaring Twenties And Progressivism
The Roaring Twenties, the Jazz Age, the Age of Intolerance, and the Age of Wonderful
Nonsense are all the names given to the 1920s era (Roaring). People flocked to cities to be part
of this great industrial boom that was taking place. The 1920s was a period of economic
prosperity and glamor, but in time, the glitter of the era would be brushed away to expose the
grime that lay just below the surface (Roaring). The people responsible for this great reveal were
called Progressives. The Roaring Twentiescannot exist without Progressivism. An ideal example of
the relationship between the Roaring Twenties and Progressivism is found in two novels, Upton
Sinclair s The Jungle and F. Scott Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby. In approximately 515 pages
combined, the entire era is put on display. The Great Gatsby shows the charm and fortune
associated with the Roaring Twenties, and The Jungle shows the corrupt and monopolistic features
of the era. Mutually, these novels provide a realistic window for future generations to look back in
time, even though both are entirely fiction, and see how society used to be. They coexisted just as
The Roaring Twenties coexisted with Progressivism, and how the flappers and millionaires
coexisted with the immigrants. However, the authors had quite opposing purposes in mind for what
their novels would accomplish in their lifetime, or what they would symbolize to future

Body Language Of A Silent Film
Language developed tremendously through the use of silent films in the 1800s and early
1900s. A silent film is that which consists of only the picture, and no sound. This was an era of
truly transformative filmmaking, forcing writers and producers to have to step out of a
comfort zone in order to allow purely visual expressions to touch their audiences and convey
their stories. This was achieved through a greater emphasis on facial expressions and body
language. Firstly, one of the greatest movies in the silent era was that by Keaton, Sherlock Jr.
This film encompasses all the core principles of telling a story through silence and overcoming
the cinematic boundaries of its day. The key to achieving this is through the direct
expressiveness of the body language of the actors alongside the plot and how Keaton
specifically selected the scenes. The film begins with a love story between a wealthy girl
(Kathryn McGuire) and a projectionist at a local movie theatre. His dream to become a detective
is what drives the film. A memorable scene in the movie is that in the candy shop when Keaton
goes to buy the chocolates for the girl. This was performed entirely in pantomime, allowing the
audience to get in touch with the film, and comprehend his desperation to woo the girl. He
shadows Crane, who is larger in size than he is, mimicking his body language and gestures. This
was done using a tracking shot. Keaton s framing techniques were clear enough to tell the story,
particularly when

The Culture of Ancient Egypt
Language and System of writing
The system of writing that the ancient Egyptians used is called Hieroglyphics coming from the
two Greek words hieros meaning holy and glyphe meaning writing. Hieroglyphics are a series of
pictures drawn from one side of the page to the other. Hieroglyphics can be read and written from
left to right or right to left depending upon which way the human and animal characters are facing.
If the characters face the left then you read from the left to the right. Each hieroglyph represents a
single sound, but as the Egyptians wrote sentences and words they took advantage of the vowels so
they are still trying to figure them out today. There are two basic types of hieroglyphs ideograms
and phonograms. Often the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Government in Ancient Egypt was ran on theocracy, which meant that there was a ruler who
was recognized as deity. The pharaoh couldn t run this all by himself so he had a hierarchy of
rulers and leaders below him who ran different parts of the government. This would mean that the
pharaoh would command the hierarchy and they would fulfil their roles and jobs as priest, scribes,
vizier etc.
Reliable supply of food and water
The Ancient Egyptians are indebted to the Nile River because it has supplied them with water
and nutrients in the soil for them to grow the crops that they need to survive for many centuries.
The predictability of the Nile s flooding allowed the Egyptians to inquire deep into the
agriculture of their land in order for them to grow all these crops such as the grains, fruits and
vegetables that they used to eat. The Egyptian diet however revolved heavily around several
primary crops, especial cereals and barley. The Egyptians would also grow Einkorn Emmer
where grown to make bread. Pulses, beans, lentils, later chickpeas and fava beans were also
grown. Root crop such as radishes, onions, and garlics were grown along with salad crops like
lettuce and parsley. The Egyptians artwork motive was fruit, suggesting that this was also a major
part of agricultural living.

Laura Keene s The American Theater Business
Mary Frances Moss, better known as Laura Keene, is a British woman who took the American
theatre business by storm. Laura Keene is truly an inspiration. With her roots as an incredibly
talented actress, Laura Keene managed to branch out and accomplish many incredible feats that no
one thought possible for a woman in her time. She was the first woman in the United States to
manage her own theatrecompany, and although all of the odds were stacked against her, she came
out triumphant. Her legacy is one of hope, and the promise that anyone can achieve greatness so
long as they never give up.
On July 20th, 1826, in the city of Winchester, England, Mary Frances Moss was born. Her
parents, Jane Moss and Thomas King were ecstatic to be welcoming their fourth child into the
world, and their other children, Edward, Hannah, and Thomas, were all equally excited to meet
the newest edition to their family. Jane Moss was revered as a well educated woman, and
wanted to raise her children to be just as knowledgeable as she. Inspired particularly by Mary
Wollstonecraft s writings on the controversial topic of women s education, Jane Moss strongly
believed in educating her daughters just as meticulously as her sons. Mary was described as being
a sunny little girl with auburn hair and large, honey brown eyes; she could always be found with
her nose in a book, and oftentimes, she would practice reciting Shakespeare, and rehearsing until
her performance was flawless. In addition to her

Truth About Cigarette Advertising
Truth About Cigarette Advertising
Two lithe, tanned bodies lazily languish near a limpid river. The heads of the two persons are
thrown back in poses of a supremely confident nature. Their facial features, though, are
indistinguishable amidst the ephemeral haze which envelops them. Curiosity piqued and intently
surveying the scene, one then notices the cigarettes dangling from the fingers of the pair.
Advertisements such as this are now ubiquitous to the point of annoyance. These attempts to entice
consumers to buy cigarettes are not simply trumped up exaggerations, as is the case with other
products. Cigarette companies market their products with blatant lies. No one is shown with
yellowed teeth or suffering from a hacking cough. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, Camels utilizes the iconic figure of a smiling Santa Claus to proffer their product unto
magazine readers. Every American knows about good Ol St. Nick, even if they aren t Christian,
and associates him with fun times with family and friends. This measure therefore, is nothing short
of a devious attempt to insinuate that cigarette smoking is a wholesome and popular pursuit of the
American public, on par with activities such as eating apple pie and watching a game of baseball.
The focus on magazine advertising shifted to the entertainment industry with the advent of
television and motion pictures in the middle of the 20th century. Popular actors became idols who
were imitated by legions of adoring fans. Suddenly, here was a new avenue through which
cigarettes could be marketed! This gave rise to the sickening practice of product placement in films
whereby cool characters were seen smoking cigarettes. Clearly, smoking then became viewed as
cool by impressionable moviegoers who attempted to mimic their stars. On April 1, 1970 though,
President Richard Nixon signed the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act, banning cigarette
advertisements on television in the United States from January 2, 1971 onward. In a typically crafty
response to this measure, some tobacco companies attempted to circumvent the ban by marketing
new brands of cigarettes as little cigars .

Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech
Al Gore s speech titled Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech is a powerful work of literature which
serves two purposes. The first purpose is stated in the title to accept his award of the Nobel Peace
Prize. The second intent he had when writing the speech was to reiterate his points that awarded
him the honor in the first place. The speech explains his passion for the problem in our world that
is the climate change and how much we pollute our earth. To give a short gist of what his cause
was, the following quote offers much insight to the regretful aspect of our society that he is
passionate about fixing. He says So today, we dumped another 70 million tons of global warming
pollution into the thin shell of atmosphere surrounding our planet,... Show more content on

His call to actions is for us to choose between two futures. He goes on to explain further by
challenging the reader to challenge assumption as well as repetition. Challenging us to question
the repetition that would eminently happen if we don t unify and majorly change our actions.
His persuasion is made very strong and hard hitting when he says we are standing at the most
fateful fork in that path. So I want to end as I began, with a vision of two futures each a palpable
possibility and with a prayer that we will see with vivid clarity the necessity of choosing
between those two futures, and the urgency of making the right choice now. Reading this quote
gives the feeling of being very inspired and feeling empowered. That being said, I feel Gore
should have given more concrete action that he proposes we take. He should have said things
such as we should stop allowing every person to drive a motor vehicle as much as they please. If
he d said something along those lines, it puts a specific concern in mind and helps along the
putting the reality of better, healthier world into fruition. He also could have proposed that
perhaps every person who owns a vehicle be required to plant a tree once a year. His speech was
powerful with lots of drawing of parallels, a lot of analogies, and many accounts of making
associations. While he is lacking a concrete and specific remedy for our current situation, maybe
it is okay. Perhaps all we need is to see that we do have a choice in how we can influence the
world, and the rest is up to us to draw from the inspiration and coordinate our own, personal next

DNA Profiling Essay example
From cases such as OJ Simpson to Chandra Levy, DNA profiling also called DNA fingerprinting
or DNA typing has played a major role in the criminal justice system. The law enforcement
community uses DNA profiling to rule out or identify suspects. Unlike hair microscopy, bite mark
comparisons, shoe print comparisons, and firearm tool mark analysis, DNAtyping has been
developed through massive scientific research and has undergone meticulous scientific evaluation
(Innocence Project). DNA is a foolproof method of identifying a perpetrator of a crime.
Like fingerprints, DNA is unique, with the exception of identical twins; no two people have the
same DNA. DNA profiling is a technique that can identify the person responsible of a violent ...

With over three million base pairs in the human gene, forensic scientists are able to distinguish a
person s genetic makeup.
. DNA profiling was first introduced to the criminal justice field in the mid 1980 s (DNA
Initiative). DNA profiling was first described in 1984 by Alec Jeffreys, a geneticist at the
University of Leicester in Britain (Aronson, 7). Dr. Jeffreys found that the genes that have no
function, called junk DNA is where most of the variation is used for DNA profiling (Aronson 9).
This region contains DNA sequences that repeat over and over again. Alec Jeffreys determined that
the number of repeated sections at different locations vary from individual to individual (DNA
Initiative). Consequently these repetitive regions became known as variable number of tandem
repeats or VNTR s.
RFLP or restriction fragment length polymorphisms became the first scientifically accepted DNA
analysis method in the United States (Jones). The repeat segments are cut out of the DNA strand
by a restrictive enzyme that acts like scissors and the resulting fragments are sorted out by
electrophoresis (Saferstein 391). However, there are some drawbacks using the RFLP method in the
forensic science community. The RFLP technique requires a large amount of DNA and must be of
high quality and cannot be degraded (Jones). Forensic scientists and the law enforcement

Also, her tone is encouraging to herself and those who receive a personal meaning from it.
Her tone leads us to her message, which is that Christina Aguilera is, indeed, satisfied with
herself and everything she is. She explains that despite whatever anyone says, she will not be
discouraged in any means. She wants the reader and listener to comprehend that she doesn t need
anyone to dishearten her of what exactly she is. She expresses to the reader and listener that she,
herself will not be stressed by others negative disapproval. Her purpose is to basically state that she
is who she is and no one will change that and addresses someone that there opinion would not

Analyzing the word, beautiful in this stanza, one should perceive that she is not actually singing

reveals that her thoughts and emotions are of worth and value and they are of her opinion. They
are consumed through her, and no one else and if anyone disagrees, she does not take that into

His parents did, and Lily did, and so did all of his group members and friends. But there were a
few exceptions: Jonas himself, and a female Five who he had noticed had the different, lighter
eyes, (pg. 20 Lois Lowry). Only those with light eyes would become the next Receiver of
Memory, which is why it was such an important detail. In the Giver movie, it was changed into a
birthmark. That birthmark was shaped like a triangle and in the movie, all Receivers of
Memory had them. The third main difference between The Giver book and the movie was the
Chief Elder s role. In the Giver book, the Chief Elder was not much of an important character,
The initial speech at the Ceremony of Twelve was made by the Chief Elder, the leader of the
community who was elected every ten years, (pg. 51 Lois Lowry). However, the Chief Elder
played an important role in the Giver movie. In the book, the Chief spoke in a few chapters
during Ceremonies and that was all. The Giver movie s Chief Elder always watched Jonas
closely. She started becoming suspicious of Jonas, and so she would warn Jonas mother and The

Reflective Essay On Hispanic Food
When first beginning this assignment, I thought of choosing Vietnamese food because I miss
having Vietnamese food for most of my meals, which was a luxury when I lived at home with
my parents. Also, I have not fully prepared a Vietnamese dish or meal myself, as cooking never
appealed to me. However, as I thought more about it, I would just be returning to the comforts of
what I had already known instead of challenging myself and expanding my experiences.
Eventually, I decided to pursue learning more about the Hispanic food culture because I greatly
enjoy Hispanic food, whether it is Americanized Hispanic foods such as burritos or enchiladas
from restaurants like Taco Bell or La Paz, or traditional, authentic foods I have had at my
Hispanic friends houses. I love exploring the infinite variety of ethnic dishes this world has to

prepare it myself. This assignment gave me the opportunity to go out and adventure into

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) Essay
You have probably heard and may even have used the term hyperactivity. The notion is a modern
one: there were no hyperactive children 50 to 60 years ago. Today, if anything, the term is applied
too often and too widely. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP)
estimates that all teachers have in their classrooms at least one child with ADHD(Simmons, RG.
1993).
Actually, hyperactivity is not one particular condition: it is a set of behaviors such as excessive
restlessness and short attention span that are quantitatively and qualitatively different from those
children of the same sex, mental age, and socioeconomic status (Gutskey, T.R. 1991).

marijuana are mind altering. All of the changes are caused by chemicals that affect the brain.
More than 400 chemicals are in the average marijuana plant. When smoked, heat produces even
more chemicals. Different weather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a receptor receives information, it causes changes in the nerve cell.
The chemical in marijuana that has a big impact on the brain is called THC
(tetrahydrocannabinol). It is the main active chemical in marijuana. Scientists recently discovered
that some areas in the brain have a lot of THC receptors, while other have very few or none. These
clues are helping researchers figure out exactly how THC works in the brain. One region of the
brain that contains a lot of THC receptors is the hippocampus, which processes memory. When
THC attaches to receptors in the hippocampus, it weakens short term memory.
The hippocampus also communicates with other brain regions that process new information into
long term memory. In the brain, under the influence of marijuana, new information may never
register, and may be lost from memory.
In some people, marijuana can cause uncontrollable laughter one minute and paranoia the next.
That s because THC also influences emotions, probably by acting on a region of the brain called
the limbic system. THC can make something as simple as driving a car really dangerous. Some of
THC s effects are useful in the world of medicine, like preventing nausea and blocking pain. The
trick is for scientists to get these results without the harmful effects.
Researchers recently found out the brain makes a chemical,
anandamide,

Analysis Of Two Dimensional Electrophoresis ( Ief )
TWO DIMENSIONAL ELECTROPHORESIS (IEF)
The different methods of separations of a mixture, to get one particular constitute of the mixture
are available now. The separation methods are based on the charge present and on migration rate
and on applied electric field are known as electro kinetics methods. Many methods are available
which are based on the electro kinetics method. Methods like electrophoresis, isotachophoresis,
isoelectric focusing and related techniques are available for the separation the components from the
mixture. This separation of molecules depend upon the many parameters like temperature, pH,
ionic strength, viscosity, applied electric field, concentration of electrolyte, surface charge, net
charge of molecule etc. These parameters are very important for separation.
Electrophoresis is the technique which monitors the charge of the molecule under the electric field
applied and separates the molecule by considering parameters like electrophoretic mobility, charge,
size of the molecule.
Isoelectric focusing requires constant electric charge with the different pH gradient on the gel and
due to this molecules get separated according to their isoelectric point.
Isotachophoresis uses different electric field with the combination of pH gradient for the separation
of the molecules or charged species.
п‚· Electrophoresis:
The basic principle of electrophoresis involves the separation and isolation of charged molecules
due to their differential migration in a buffer

Trial By Ordeal
Intro:
Trial by ordeal and judicial punishment are practices that were relied on as pre modern judicial
institutions.
It will be argued in this paper that by examining the historical circumstances surrounding their
emergence and their use, it is possible to come to an understanding of the role they played in these
societies as well as well as their appeal.
Trial By Ordeal
Trial by ordeal was a judicial institution relied on in medieval era in England and the European
Continent. Ordeals were used to determine someone s guilt or innocence by putting the accused
through a physically painful act and relying on a sign from God to pronounce their guilt
(Langbein, 2008, p.44). For example, one method used in England was ordeal by hot iron. ... Show

The view started to emerge in the Middle Ages that the state should take a more active approach
in dealing with violence. The emergence of the idea that the state should regulate society and
keep order materialized in the concept of the king or queens peace. The concept of the king s
peace made previously private ways of dealing with violence a public matter, thus developing a
body of public law of crime that had not existed before (Langbein, 2008, p.31). Through the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Network Virtualization
.2 Network Virtualization
In computing, network virtualization is the process of combining hardware and software network
resources and network functionality into a single, software based administrative entity, a virtual
network. Network virtualization involves platform virtualization, often combined with resource
virtualization.
Network virtualization is categorized as either external virtualization, combining many networks or
parts of networks into a virtual unit, or internal virtualization, providing network like functionality
to software containers on a single network server.
In software testing, software developers use network virtualization to test software under
development in a simulation of the network environments in which the software ... Show more

fundamental point is that there is a LOT of data transfer capacity that is never equally used and
that implies squandered power, space and cooling (which cost more than the gear itself). When you

Organizational Performance Of The Amc
Prior to the arrival of Andy Falender, there were three prominent problems plaguing the
organizational performance of the AMC. These problems consisted of: 1) the decentralization of
decision making to the local chapters, 2) the financial stability of the organization, and 3) the
growth of the organization. These problems presented themselves as troublesome for the
organization, hindering its ability to perform accordingly. Looking first at the problemof
decentralization of the decision making process, the organization was based in Boston where both
club and council meetings were held; however, as the AMC grew, there was an increase in the
formation of local chapters extending from New York, to Maine. While these chapters produced...

Despite the benefits of having organizational goals, the concept in itself includes complications.
Rianey (2014) suggests that the complications include that goals are always multiple. Due to the
number of goals an organization may have, research indicates that differing goals is quite common
amongst organizations. In the AMC s case, the separation between the national and individual
chapters have created the appearance that the organization as a whole has a number of goals,
although more likely than not these goals are more associated with an individual chapter. Rainy
(2014) argues that these differing goals often times create goal conflicts within an organization,
leading to organizational ineffectiveness. With this in mind, it is quite clear to see the ways that the
organization can be impacted by the multitude of organizational goals impacting the ability of the
organization to be impactful.
The second problem plaguing the AMC was their inability to remain financially stable. Unlike the
financial growth and stability the individual chapters were receiving, the national organization
faced significant financial problems [which resulted] in a major projected budget deficit. To
attempt to solve this problem, the AMC resorted to taking out substantial loans , but had cash flow
problems [that] were leading to frequent delays in paying bills when

decrease in the demand between years. The analysis shows that the demand is ever increasing
for microwave category products. The perceived advantage of using microwave foods has
increased as the life of people is becoming more and more complex. The advantages could be
summarized as time saving, greater appeal since it is a gourmet meal and the variety provided.
The multi use of the products at any time of the day in the form of breakfast, dinner, as well as
lunch, is the reason for the high appeal of these products. The use of products from the microwave

The process of segmenting and profiling allows better decision making to the ones handling
markets and its differences. The significance is added to the geographic and other variables
which make help differentiate the product in the group of target customers. The differences in
consumer preference and behavior are because of the changes in their perception regarding the
features of the product, the usage dimensions, purchase readiness and the emotional connection
with the brand. The point of equilibrium, i.e. the point where demanded quantity is equal to
supplied quantity is given by the following equation, where QD= Quantity demanded, QS=
Quantity supplied QD = 5200 42P + 20PX + 5.2I + .20A + .25M QD = 5200 42P + 20*600 +
5.2*5500 + .20*10000 + .25*5000 QD = 42P + 38650 QS = 7909.89 + 79.1P Here, 26770 42P =
7909.89 + 79.0989P Or, P = $286.38 QD is 14742 units Thus, the point of equilibrium is at price
of $286.38 and quantity of 14742 units. Given the scenario, there is the high importance of
customer profiling for the purposes of market segmentation. For this, the identified variables of the
profile need to be considered. The target market for the whole food industry is determined by the
target customers, followed by which the market size determination will occur. Microwave industry
is a low cost one, and thus, the survival of this industry depends on the adequacy of capital and

Norton s original version was just a cylindrical bullet with a hollow base on one
end.(historynet.com) After the original invention of Norton there were various other type of
minie balls that were created to improve on the previous versions. The first improvement came
from a man named William Greener a man from London who in 1836 created a more oval
shaped bullet with a flat bottom.(Historynet.com) In 1849 two French army captains, Claude E
Tienne Minie and Henri Gustave Delvigne, created the more well know shape of the minie ball
made from soft led with four rings that would work with the rifled that had a riffled barrel that
they made.(Historynet.com) The name for the Minie ball comes from one of the creators of the
official minie ball Claude E tienne Minie. Lastly before its use in the civil war James Burton
adapted it with a hollow base for easier use in mass production and less cost. The impact the
previous versions of the minie ball had on wars prior to the Civil shows how much influence the
design has. It went through many steps to become its final product during the civil war, the design
was improved so much that it become one of the reasons so many people ended up being killed
instead of being just injured. The design let the rifle be loaded much faster, shoot farther, and be
more deadly.

How Is Miss Emily Grierson A Dynamic Character
Upon reading William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, one discovers several colorful characters,
including one Miss Emily Grierson of Jefferson, Mississippi. Readers uncover her quirks and
specific character traits as seen through the eyes of the townspeople who are highly interested in
the goings on in her life. Miss Emily Grierson is a round yet static protagonist who is lonely,
unyielding to change, and overcome by her unfortunate life circumstances, and as such she should
not be considered a mad womanas many readers might accuse her of being.
Miss Emily lived her life almost throughout on display before the town of Jefferson and
ultimately this resulted in her lack of socialization and human interaction. The fault in this matter
lies with her father, the respected mayor of Jefferson, who protected her and kept her under
thumb, driving away every suitor that came to call. People came to picture poor Miss Emily as a
slender figure in white in the background, her father a spraddled silhouette in the foreground, his
back to her and clutching a horsewhip, the two of them framed by the back flung front door
(Faulkner 35). In this visualization, her father clearly stood between her and the real world as a
threatening and domineering figure. One might believe that such a prominent figure would interact
with the public on a daily basis in a positive manner, but it appears that the Grierson status only
encouraged the prying eyes of the townspeople to impede on Miss Emily s

Essay on Fenian Movement
Fenian Movement
The word Fenian comes from Irish folklore. It is described as an ancient group of knights who
were independent and had a form of nationalism for their homeland of Ireland. According to the
legend, Irish rebels who were known as knights gave up a chance for world dominion by leaving
their country to keep Ireland alive, through their pride for the country. In 1848, a movement struck
in Ireland, to achieve independence from England by using force. The movement was led by a
group of revolutionaries called Young Ireland. This movement was led by William Smith O Brian.

Death and famine were causing the people to suffer in Ireland.
Landlords were trying to find the problem to the deaths. Landlords knew exactly what to do.
They evicted hundreds and thousands of peasants, because the work was not getting done
(Considine 76). Unemployment was the view of the workers due to soldiers coming home from
the Napoleonic Wars and more people were dying from disease. As the farmlands of Ireland
were being cleaned out, over the period of time, emigration increased at an excessive rate. Many
Irish residents left for America and other English speaking countries. During the famine, nearly
one million people sought a new and richer life in the United States. Ship owners crowded
hundreds of Irish onto boats, later labeled coffin ships (Ruddy 43). These ships reached port
only after losing a third of their passengers to disease, hunger and other causes. While Britain
provided much relief for Ireland s starving population, many Irish criticized Britain s delayed
response and further blamed centuries of British political oppression to underline the causes of the
famine. As depression continued in Ireland, two million more people left to seek this new life. But
even leaving wasn t the cure. The Irish were already stressed out due to the economy caused by its
Poor Law System.
Due to the Poor Law system, the Irish people weren t

Mambo Dance History
The mambo genre and dance style have a linked history. Since its origins in Cuba, Mambo has
evolved into many dance forms, each one sporting different footwork and moves. All of these new,
fast pace movements originated from the basic Mambo dance, which was popularized by
DГЎmaso PГ©rez Prado. The lively mambo song, Mambo No. 5 was composed and performed
in 1952 by the Cuban Mexican band leader Perez Prado. He was famously known as the King of
the Mambo . Prado recorded numerous mambos and when he ran out of inspiration, he would
simply number them. Mambo No. 5 was the most famous out of a series of 8 mambos.

Phase 3 Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)
Critical Thinking Questions:
How will you ensure your company is an EEO Employer?
As with our student population, we at the Northwestern Academy believe our teachers and
faculty should be as talented as possible. This is the reason that qualifications are the primary
consideration when considering potential applicants for our faculty. Race, religion, sex and
gender will not be factors in who is hired. However, diversity not only brings advantages in terms
of educational benefits, but it also can spur a sense of creativity in the minds of our students and
faculty. Because of this, we will provide clear information to our all of our candidates over a broad
range of mediums to find many different types of candidates. Even though a portion of our
professors come from Northwestern University, some will come from outside of the Northwestern
system, and we require these candidates to be just as qualified as the ones that come from within
the Northwestern system.
A point of differentiation between Northwestern Academy and other schools is that our professor
turnover rate is slightly higher than the industry average (due to professors advancing in the world
of academia). This will lead to a constantly changing faculty. The interviewprocess will be the
same for all applicants, and will thus help us make decisions primarily based on an applicant s
qualifications, and help us maintain a talent standard in terms of faculty. Examples of

  • 2. A Mock Prison Environment By Philip Zimbardo Philip Zimbardo, who categorizes himself as good fell victim to the situation of the Stanford Prisons Experiment (SPE). Even though it was a mock prison environment, Zimbardo fell heavily invested in his role as superintendent and lead investigator of the SPE, whose main concern is to make sure the SPE continues running, led him to accept that his actions were normal. Which in turn allowed him to ignore his moral conscience; allowing for the suffering from the participants surrounding the SPE. When Zimbardo came to the decision to end the program, disconnecting from his both his roles he was able to realize that he was not in control, that the situation had controlled his logic affecting his actions. Zimbardo states, The negative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chris Kyle, who a lot of us have come to know as the American Sniper is a good person, but while serving in United States military for the navy seal as a sniper he accepted his situation that required him to perform evil acts. Kyle is what we call an all American boy. He was raised in the church on a Texas ranch. He enjoyed the outdoors. Eventually, Kyle joined the United States Military. When he left the military, highly decorated. He started his own security business. In addition, started working with veterans and helping his fellow soldiers that were struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD). If we were going to label Kyle and put him under a category, Kyle is a good person. Kyle was raised in a proper home, served his country, contributed to society and served his community. However, during his tour in Afghanistan, he would transform into another person once he accepted his situation he was no longer Kyle but Devil of Ramadi (Thomas), who has a total of 160 confirmed kills. Kyle states, His mission in Iraq was simple: provide what the military calls overwatch protection so the Marines under his gaze could do their jobs without fear of insurgent ambushes. • 3. Explain The Conflict Perspective The conflict perspective, on the other hand notes that power plays an integral role in defining what should be regarded as devious behavior. The group in power, such as Jerry Springer and Maury impose to the people what is deviant and punished on stage while seemingly entrenching what they regard as good even if it does not go down well with what society deems acceptable. Further, the conflict theory provides another alternative to the perspective on social life regarding talk shows. This perspective stresses that society is made up of groups that are competing with one another for scarce resources. There seem to be some power struggles in the midst of the alliances or cooperation that may prevail on the surface. The machinery of control represents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Have New Emphases And Interpretative Lenses Is History How have new emphases and interpretative lenses emphasizing history from below affected the more traditional subfields of political, military, diplomatic, and sectional history and how do they affect world history. During the past century these four subfields have evolved within themselves to rise from their traditional methodologies of study to incorporating social and cultural historiography to better analyze their subject matter; while turning from an inner study, as it applies to the United States, towards a more world view. The authors of this week s reading project s a theme or commonality that has affected their subfield from the turn of the century until now. They all mention Frederick Jackson Turner s reading of his famous paper, The Significance of the Frontier in American History, where he argued that frontier settlement, and not institutional and spiritual inheritance from the Old World, accounted for the origins and peculiar development of American democracy. This was the first time interpretations of social and cultural were utilized in the studies of particular subfields that started the Progressive era that lasted until the start of World War II. During this period studies were from the bottom up versus the old top to bottom approach; going from the great men and great events, to the study of the ordinary people and incorporating previously neglected groups like women and black. Following the war the counter Progressive or consensus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Benefits Of A New Allergy Medicine After conducting a research experiment to find the benefits of a new allergy medicine, it has been discovered that Wilf Whitmore had made a simple error in his calculations of the dosage used. The dosage Whitmore was using was ten times bigger than what he had thought. This error was discovered by Whitmore s professor, Dr. Sparrow, who is the only who has discovered the error. There are many different things, both good and bad, that Dr. Sparrow could do to handle the situation, but if she choses not to do anything she is making a very unethical decision. Some of the things that we know to be true are that Dr. Sparrow had a few doubts about Whitmore s understanding of science and his scientific abilities. It is shown that Dr. Sparrow had reasonable doubt due to the fact that Whitmore had indeed messed up the experiment. We also know that many other people had doubts about the potency of the drug. This is due to the fact that it was so efficient at the low doses Whitmore had originally claimed he was using. Another fact given to us is that Whitmore had left because he was nervous about his career in academic research and decided to leave the scientific field to pursue an education at law school. Lastly the most important fact that we know if that WHitmore definitely messed up his calculations and was using a dose that was ten times bigger than what he had thought. This is incredibly important because it throws the entire experiment off and falsifies the results. Although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on Koala Marsupials The Koala Among the many different marsupials in the world, there is one that stands out and is recognized, not only for its looks, but also for the hardships that it deals with in being a koala. The koala originated in Australia, and was discovered by trappers around the time of 1798. Many rare and exotic animals have been found in Australia, because of its remoteness and isolation from most of the civilized world. Australia has been described as a huge ark, a giant lifeboat, cut off from contact with the rest of the world and carrying with it a group of unique creatures (Serventy 1975). The creatures that inhabit Australia are made up of many different classifications of animal groups that have found themselves all living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once on the tree it can either jump foot by foot up until they reach safety, or slowly climb to any given point in the forest by climbing from tree to tree. The koala is also a fantastic swimmer. Although they are very strong swimmers they seem to be somewhat clumsy moving along with almost all of its body submerged. There are several sightings of the koala swimming in bays and along reefs in order to avoid walking on land and take the risk of running into predators. Mating season in the jungles of Australia is extremely noticeable, due to the call of the koala during this time. The koala s call is described as a harsh, grating sound, like a handsaw going through a thin board (Phillips 1990). There is one story in which a man was working with a chain saw when he looked up and saw a large koala coming toward him. The animal grabbed him by the pants and bit his leg and wrist, when it was captured and placed in a box the animal made a very loud, growling cry (Serventy 1975). It is believed that when the koala heard the noise of the chain saw it felt it had to defend its territory with any means necessary. When the baby koala is born it is just a little bit bigger than a human fingernail. During its youth it spends its time in its mothers pouch, just like the ever famous Australian animal the kangaroo. While in the pouch there are the teats of the mother for the baby to feed on. The mother koala can continue all of her daily routine with the baby in the pouch. When the ... • 7. Women s Magazines Are Littered With Beauty Advertisements Women s magazines are littered with beauty advertisements. On one page, a mascara ad promises thick and long lashes as a symmetrically faced woman holds the wand to her eyes. Her skin is pore less and she appears mechanical.. Turn the page and an actress/model stands with legs the circumference of an arm. She is modeling jeans, yet they are barely on her body. This kind of advertisingdoes not end at the actual advertisements. The truth is that the magazineitself is an advertisement of its reader s inadequacy. Furthermore, the magazine as a whole serves as an advertisement to a woman s assumed lack of confidence. Almost every product featured in popular women s magazines is a paid placement. It s no secret that magazine publications are struggling as more consumers migrate to online platforms. Without subscriber funding, publications are forced to fund their company in various ways similar to how a person will work many jobs in order to pay rent. Paid promotional articles and features fill this gap created by declining subscribers. This makes all of the adverts and all of the articles about fat loss and shiny hair even more trivial and unsubstantial. This issue could be excused, but it remains hard to ignore considering how much lack of diversity factors into this nook of the publication world. Cosmopolitan s slogan is Fun. Fearless. Female. which indicates that it is geared towards an audience of women that is young and old, multi racial, thick or thin. The contents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Kurt Lewin s Change Management Theory Change management theory: In order for the initiative of bedside handover with the use of ISBAR framework to be implemented and work efficiently, a change management theory can be applied. One change management theory that is commonly used amongst nurses in different specialty areas is Kurt Lewin s change management theory. This theory is of particular relevance to my initiative as in the last stage of the theory involves sustainability which is of great importance when it comes to delivery quality care. Lewin s change management theory involves three steps; unfreeze, change and refreeze. From Lewin s perspective, the process of change begins with creating the perception that change is needed, then moves onto the actual desirable level of change and lastly, solidifying the new behaviour as the new normal (Burnes, 2004). In Lewin s first stage, unfreezing is about encouraging people to think about the current situation and helping them realise the need for change (Kassean Jagoo, 2005). The first move is therefore is to raise awareness for the need for change by communicating the proposed change to all those who are going to be affected by the initiative, such as the patients, charge nurse and nurses. Making research articles about the benefits of bedside handover available for people to read is another way to raise awareness. Lastly, displaying posters of the new initiative around the ward can be done as another tool to help implement the change. For the change ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Capitalism On December 25, 1991, the hammer and sickle of the Soviet Union lowered for the last time. After 69 years of enjoying a place in history as a world superpower, the massive territory dissolved into 12 independent states. The Bush administration watched in awe as their main enemy crumbled to dust. This was another victory for freedom, democracy, and capitalism. Communism, which lives by the abolition of private property, is the exact opposite of capitalism, where individuals own their own property and make money dependent on how much they work. There have been very few communist countries, and all have been lead by dictators. Which form of economy is better? On one end of the economic spectrum is capitalism. Capitalism is attributed to the Western world and allows the common person to buy property. By definition, Capitalism is an economic systemin which capital goods are owned by private individuals or businesses. The production of goods and services is based on supply and demand in the general market (market economy), rather than through central planning (planned economy or command economy), (Investopedia 1). This means that people own everything and the profits of their property go to them. People and businesses also control production and distribution of goods and the transfer of wealth. The positives of capitalism are that people have opportunity to be wealthy and live life in comfort by working hard and contributing to society. This feature attracts many immigrants ... • 10. Types Of E Learning Synchronous And Asynchronous Through research I have learned that there are two types of e learning synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous referring to a specific hour where both parties meet for the course. Asynchronous is using computer sources for course material and contact with instructor is done through online programs (Bubatu). Synchronous it the type of training one would expect from a traditional classroom training. However, today s traditional classroom training also incorporates e learning tools. Whether the instructor is using a power point presentation, video, or material found on a website, it s important to recognize that technology has become very important for classroom training. Besides my high school years, I have yet to see an educator teach with only a book in hand. As technology changes, so does asynchronous training. Newer methods of online training become available every day. E Learning has been around for decades. Knowing that e learning is constantly changing before our eyes, let s look at how e learning has evolved over time. According to Nicoleta Florea, There are three generations of e learning. First generation referring to print based correspondence. Second generation refers to the use of multimedia an instructor available. Third generation is training done by individuals/teams with little to no guidance from an educator . First generation training was successful but obviously had its downfalls. Print based training gave individuals access to training but no one to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Portrayal Of Servants In Volpone The portrayal of servants in Shakespeare s and Jonson s plays is contrasting. In Jonson s city comedies servants are depicted as unethical, manipulating their masters greed and egocentrism in order to fulfill their own plans and goals. On the other hand, in Shakespeare s pastoral comedies servants are portrayed as loyal, devoted, reliable and helpful to their masters. To be more specific, in Jonson s city comedy Volpone the city is portrayed as a dog eat dog, antagonistic competitive world which is profit orientated, where everything is commodified. In other words, it is a society that is governed only by greed and profit. Therefore, almost all of his characters are greedy for power, money, food, alcohol or sex. Jonson satirizes that kind of characters because he wants his theater to be educating. In the end, usually such greed, such deception, such immoral behaviors are punished. Interestingly, the character names in Volpone reveal their personalities elements. Jonson s connection to Aesop s Fables is obvious, as all the character names in Volpone recall animals, insects or birds. For example Volpone means fox in Italian, Mosca means Fly etc. In that sense, Volpone draws from a tradition of Aesopian beast fables. • 15. Future Choice Analysis For these criterion, I ranked each of my alternatives accordingly. For tuition, I found that the best choices for me based on that criteria would be either CU Boulder or Mines. Both of these schools have generally the same tuition, and both are the lowest out of my choices. The lowest ranked choice is MIT for this criteria, due to the fact that it is over $70,000 to attend for a tuition year. The other choices generally ranged from $40,000 $50,000. For the criteria of the size of the campus, I found that both Colorado School of Minesand Vanderbilt both appealed to me the most. Colorado School of Mines has a decent campus with under 20,000 students. Vanderbilt in its whole may have many students, but its Collegeof Engineering is also decent in its size. The lowest rank college is Harvard. Even though it is a private college, I feel that the size of the campus does not fit well with the small, inclusive size that I am looking for. The other colleges vary in between with their size, and in all honest, they are sizes that I am apathetic to. His name is Lee Bektash, and he is a driver for FIAT Chrysler (who supply the car) and Mopar Racing (who supply all the parts). He s the number one drag car racer in Australia, as well as holding the world record for the quickest time with a small block powered car and naturally aspirated car for the quarter mile 6.87 seconds, clocked at a speed of 200.14mph. I recently spoke to Lee about a few things; his childhood, and the reasons he became such a huge car fan. He was born in Kyabram and moved to Melbourne when he was 5 years old, where he was raised in St Albans. As cousins we naturally met as children, and for as long as I can remember he has always had an affinity with cars and the faster the better. • 18. Pros And Cons Of School Shootings School shootings are terrifying and a big problem in today s society. Schools have added lockdown drills, bullet proof glass and metal detectors. School should be a safe area for children to learn instead of fearing for their life. Instead of buying metal detectors and hiring more officers, there is a much easier solution in order to decrease and prevent school shootings. We have to be more alert about securing weapons at home and being aware of suspicious behavior at school in order to keep children and faculty safe. As a child left for school one morning, his parents thought that he had been acting very odd and different. Even with their suspicion, they said goodbye and let their son go to school. It wasn t till later when they had noticed an empty spot in their gun case where a pistol and shotgun used to sit. They rushed to the school and while searching through the halls for their son, their ears echoed with a gunshot from one of the classrooms. Following the gunshot, they rushed into the classroom and immediately disarmed and physically detained their son until police arrived. The only damages the son had caused, was a plate sized hole in the ceiling. If the parents had gotten to the school even one minute later, their son could have been labeled as a murderer. It is sickening to know that a child was able to sneak past his parents, teachers, and students with two firearms on his body. His parents were lucky they arrived when they did because many of people could have been hurt or even worse murdered. Obviously, the child that brought the two firearms to school should be the one punished, but what about the parents. The parents that did not have a weapon that could easily end someone s life, properly locked up or hidden away. The two drawings were completed within 12 years of each other, and they seem be in conversation as surrealist compositions. Both pieces incorporate primitivist imagery into their engagement with the surreal. However, where Matta uses this imagery to further Freudian shock value and bring forward abject discomfort, Lam uses primitive symbology to discuss notions of Afro Cuban identity through a cubist and surreal lens. • 20. The Roaring Twenties And Progressivism The Roaring Twenties, the Jazz Age, the Age of Intolerance, and the Age of Wonderful Nonsense are all the names given to the 1920s era (Roaring). People flocked to cities to be part of this great industrial boom that was taking place. The 1920s was a period of economic prosperity and glamor, but in time, the glitter of the era would be brushed away to expose the grime that lay just below the surface (Roaring). The people responsible for this great reveal were called Progressives. The Roaring Twentiescannot exist without Progressivism. An ideal example of the relationship between the Roaring Twenties and Progressivism is found in two novels, Upton Sinclair s The Jungle and F. Scott Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby. In approximately 515 pages combined, the entire era is put on display. The Great Gatsby shows the charm and fortune associated with the Roaring Twenties, and The Jungle shows the corrupt and monopolistic features of the era. Mutually, these novels provide a realistic window for future generations to look back in time, even though both are entirely fiction, and see how society used to be. They coexisted just as The Roaring Twenties coexisted with Progressivism, and how the flappers and millionaires coexisted with the immigrants. However, the authors had quite opposing purposes in mind for what their novels would accomplish in their lifetime, or what they would symbolize to future generations. • 21. Body Language Of A Silent Film Language developed tremendously through the use of silent films in the 1800s and early 1900s. A silent film is that which consists of only the picture, and no sound. This was an era of truly transformative filmmaking, forcing writers and producers to have to step out of a comfort zone in order to allow purely visual expressions to touch their audiences and convey their stories. This was achieved through a greater emphasis on facial expressions and body language. Firstly, one of the greatest movies in the silent era was that by Keaton, Sherlock Jr. This film encompasses all the core principles of telling a story through silence and overcoming the cinematic boundaries of its day. The key to achieving this is through the direct expressiveness of the body language of the actors alongside the plot and how Keaton specifically selected the scenes. The film begins with a love story between a wealthy girl (Kathryn McGuire) and a projectionist at a local movie theatre. His dream to become a detective is what drives the film. A memorable scene in the movie is that in the candy shop when Keaton goes to buy the chocolates for the girl. This was performed entirely in pantomime, allowing the audience to get in touch with the film, and comprehend his desperation to woo the girl. He shadows Crane, who is larger in size than he is, mimicking his body language and gestures. This was done using a tracking shot. Keaton s framing techniques were clear enough to tell the story, particularly when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first purpose is stated in the title to accept his award of the Nobel Peace Prize. The second intent he had when writing the speech was to reiterate his points that awarded him the honor in the first place. The speech explains his passion for the problem in our world that is the climate change and how much we pollute our earth. To give a short gist of what his cause was, the following quote offers much insight to the regretful aspect of our society that he is passionate about fixing. His call to actions is for us to choose between two futures. He goes on to explain further by challenging the reader to challenge assumption as well as repetition. Challenging us to question the repetition that would eminently happen if we don t unify and majorly change our actions. His persuasion is made very strong and hard hitting when he says we are standing at the most fateful fork in that path. So I want to end as I began, with a vision of two futures each a palpable possibility and with a prayer that we will see with vivid clarity the necessity of choosing between those two futures, and the urgency of making the right choice now. Reading this quote gives the feeling of being very inspired and feeling empowered. That being said, I feel Gore should have given more concrete action that he proposes we take. He should have said things such as we should stop allowing every person to drive a motor vehicle as much as they please. If he d said something along those lines, it puts a specific concern in mind and helps along the putting the reality of better, healthier world into fruition. He also could have proposed that perhaps every person who owns a vehicle be required to plant a tree once a year. His speech was powerful with lots of drawing of parallels, a lot of analogies, and many accounts of making associations. While he is lacking a concrete and specific remedy for our current situation, maybe it is okay. DNA profiling was first introduced to the criminal justice field in the mid 1980 s (DNA Initiative). DNA profiling was first described in 1984 by Alec Jeffreys, a geneticist at the University of Leicester in Britain (Aronson, 7). Dr. Jeffreys found that the genes that have no function, called junk DNA is where most of the variation is used for DNA profiling (Aronson 9). This region contains DNA sequences that repeat over and over again. Alec Jeffreys determined that the number of repeated sections at different locations vary from individual to individual (DNA Initiative). Consequently these repetitive regions became known as variable number of tandem repeats or VNTR s. RFLP or restriction fragment length polymorphisms became the first scientifically accepted DNA analysis method in the United States (Jones). The repeat segments are cut out of the DNA strand by a restrictive enzyme that acts like scissors and the resulting fragments are sorted out by electrophoresis (Saferstein 391). However, there are some drawbacks using the RFLP method in the forensic science community. The RFLP technique requires a large amount of DNA and must be of high quality and cannot be degraded (Jones). Forensic scientists and the law enforcement community ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) Essay You have probably heard and may even have used the term hyperactivity. The notion is a modern one: there were no hyperactive children 50 to 60 years ago. Today, if anything, the term is applied too often and too widely. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) estimates that all teachers have in their classrooms at least one child with ADHD(Simmons, RG. 1993). Actually, hyperactivity is not one particular condition: it is a set of behaviors such as excessive restlessness and short attention span that are quantitatively and qualitatively different from those children of the same sex, mental age, and socioeconomic status (Gutskey, T.R. 1991). Today most psychologists agree that the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Still others may get lost in the directions along the way. Marijuana can cause people to lose focus on events around them. For some it makes them more aware of their physical sensations. For others, there are numerous other effects. The chemical in marijuana that has a big impact on the brain is called THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). It is the main active chemical in marijuana. Scientists recently discovered that some areas in the brain have a lot of THC receptors, while other have very few or none. These clues are helping researchers figure out exactly how THC works in the brain. One region of the brain that contains a lot of THC receptors is the hippocampus, which processes memory. When THC attaches to receptors in the hippocampus, it weakens short term memory. The hippocampus also communicates with other brain regions that process new information into long term memory. In the brain, under the influence of marijuana, new information may never register, and may be lost from memory. In some people, marijuana can cause uncontrollable laughter one minute and paranoia the next. That s because THC also influences emotions, probably by acting on a region of the brain called the limbic system. THC can make something as simple as driving a car really dangerous. Some of THC s effects are useful in the world of medicine, like preventing nausea and blocking pain. The trick is for scientists to get these results without the harmful effects. Analysis Of Two Dimensional Electrophoresis ( Ief ) TWO DIMENSIONAL ELECTROPHORESIS (IEF) The different methods of separations of a mixture, to get one particular constitute of the mixture are available now. The separation methods are based on the charge present and on migration rate and on applied electric field are known as electro kinetics methods. Many methods are available which are based on the electro kinetics method. Methods like electrophoresis, isotachophoresis, isoelectric focusing and related techniques are available for the separation the components from the mixture. This separation of molecules depend upon the many parameters like temperature, pH, ionic strength, viscosity, applied electric field, concentration of electrolyte, surface charge, net charge of molecule etc. These parameters are very important for separation. Electrophoresis is the technique which monitors the charge of the molecule under the electric field applied and separates the molecule by considering parameters like electrophoretic mobility, charge, size of the molecule. Isoelectric focusing requires constant electric charge with the different pH gradient on the gel and due to this molecules get separated according to their isoelectric point. Isotachophoresis uses different electric field with the combination of pH gradient for the separation of the molecules or charged species. п‚· Electrophoresis: The basic principle of electrophoresis involves the separation and isolation of charged molecules due to their differential migration in a buffer ... These problems consisted of: 1) the decentralization of decision making to the local chapters, 2) the financial stability of the organization, and 3) the growth of the organization. These problems presented themselves as troublesome for the organization, hindering its ability to perform accordingly. Rianey (2014) suggests that the complications include that goals are always multiple. Due to the number of goals an organization may have, research indicates that differing goals is quite common amongst organizations. In the AMC s case, the separation between the national and individual chapters have created the appearance that the organization as a whole has a number of goals, although more likely than not these goals are more associated with an individual chapter. Rainy (2014) argues that these differing goals often times create goal conflicts within an organization, leading to organizational ineffectiveness. With this in mind, it is quite clear to see the ways that the organization can be impacted by the multitude of organizational goals impacting the ability of the organization to be impactful. The second problem plaguing the AMC was their inability to remain financially stable. Unlike the financial growth and stability the individual chapters were receiving, the national organization faced significant financial problems [which resulted] in a major projected budget deficit. The fault in this matter lies with her father, the respected mayor of Jefferson, who protected her and kept her under thumb, driving away every suitor that came to call.
