Zion National Park
The area of Zion National Park is two hundred and twenty nine square miles located in the
Southwestern United States near Springdale, Utah. A prominent feature is Zion Canyon which is
fifteen miles long and up to eight hundred meters deep, cutting through the Navajo Sandstone by
the North Fork of the Virgin River. The lowest elevation is 3,666 feet at Coal Pits Wash and the
highest elevation is 8,726 feet at Horse Ranch Mountain. Located at the junction of the Colorado
Plateau, Mojave Desert, and Great Basin regions, the park s unique geography and variety of life
zones allow for unusual plant and animal diversity. The four life zones that can be found in Zion

Side Effects Of Cyber Bullying
Social media is a phrase that we throw around a lot these days, often to describe what we post on
sites and apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and others. The social part: refers to
interacting with other people by sharing information with them and receiving information from
them. The media part: refers to an instrument of communication, like the internet (while TV,
radio, and newspapers are examples of more traditional forms of media). Social media are web
based communication tools that enable people to interact with each other by both sharing and
consuming information. However, social media may have some side effects such as
cyberbullying, which may have negative impacts on the life of people, especially children and
teenagers. Cyberbullying can be defined as aggressive, intentional actions performed by an
individual or a group of people via digital communication methods such as sending messages and
posting comments against a victim. Different from traditional bullying that usually occurs at
school during face to face communication, cyberbullying on social media can take place anywhere
at any time. For bullies, they are free to hurt their peers feelings because they do not need to face
someone and can hide behind the Internet. For victims, they are easily exposed to harassment since
all of us, especially youth, are constantly connected to Internet or social media. As reported
cyberbullying victimization rate ranges from 10% to 40%. In the United States,

Yeah, course not. I mumbled pulling the covers over my head, snuggling further into their warmth.

Relate A Real-World Case Study On The Payment Card System
1. Relate a real world case study on the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS)
standard noncompliance and its implications. Failure to protect sensitive customer data can result
in serious Business losses and other major negative impacts in business operations. Card Systems
Solutions and its successor has been known for the world s largest client data comprise ever since.
This was due to failure to properly protect sensitive card information of millions of customers cards
it processed during its operation. The company kept sensitive personal information for its clients of
which it had no useful reason to store it. The said information was stored in the company s network
which proved insecure following a SQL injection attack that saw millions of card information
compromised thus leading to a huge loss due to fraudulent purchases using the stolen information
from the company s system.
This incident saw the FTC identify several practices that could have possibly led to the breach.
These included failure to use strong passwords, failure to employ sufficient measure to restrict
system access to computers and the internet, some of which were low cost and easy to establish
measures nevertheless, the company did not carry out regular tests to assess the vulnerability of
their system to the outside world, a situation that made them vulnerable to even the simplest
attacked.
Data breaches like these have serious implications for the business operations and could even lead
to the collapse of the whole system, where the law is applicable the Company s systems are put
under supervision to make sure they meet the newest regulation for financial data protection and
regular auditing to make sure the system is stable and secure.
2. Distinguish how the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a standard and
not a law, and how it defines requirements for information systems security controls and
countermeasures.
PCI DSS is a fundamental standard established by major credit companies to create a baseline on
how personal information on cardholders, their transactions, and other sensitive information is
collected, transferred to requesting parties and most importantly how the above data

Apple And Foxconn Case Study
Assessment 2 Case Synthesis: Apple and Foxconn
Introduction
The consumer electronics magnate Apple Inc. has been accused of labor abuse in its Asian supply
chain. The acquiescence of underage labor, excessive working hours and illegitimate low wage in
China based Foxconn factories is clear evidence of corporate social responsibility (CSR) omission.
In fact, such acquiescence is the result of an exploitation chain, with Apple at the top, Chinese
workers at the bottom and Foxconn in between.
Key issues
Low bargaining power and labor market disequilibrium
The inelasticity of labor supply curtails the bargaining power of workers and places them at a
disadvantage against their employer. Most of Foxconn employees are underprivileged and
consequently undereducated. The first feature deprives them of alternatives other than working to
support their families and the second pronounces that they are unqualified for many occupations
other than mechanical chores on the assembly line. This scarcity of options enables Foxconn to
impose harsh working schedule, cut wages and suppress the resistance of the tractable workers.
Because of the one child policy and aging population, the younger generation is unlikely to ... Show

Exploiting Foxconn s fear of contract termination, Apple offers low prices for widgets which
reduce its own expenditure but slash Foxconn s profit margin. The low marginal revenue compels
Foxconn to minimize its production cost by cutting wages. To maintain its share in the ever
changing consumer electronics market, Apple has to frequently revise its production forecasts and
consequently its orders for widgets. It is impossible to meet such urgent demand which exceeds
Foxconn s regular productivity, so the underpaid employees are forced to

Thomas Hobbes Perfect Social Contract
Hello Professor and Fellow Classmates,
With the topic of the discussion for this week, I agree with the ideas of both the philosophy.
They have some good point of views that I think if we could combine them together, we would
have a perfect Social Contract. Hobbes created Social Contract in the 17th Century when the
world was wild and dangerous to him. People was too self interested that they would do whatever
it took to survive. He called it state of nature , a place where life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish,
and short . He believed that we need Social Contract and a good government to protect and guide
us. His purpose was to bring safety, freedom, and peaceful environment to the society. Therefore,
he believed we are all self interested

In Kecia Ali’S Book “Sexual Ethics And Islam” We Are
Given
In Kecia Ali s book Sexual Ethics and Islam we are given a unique perspective on various
subjects within Islam. The chapters deal with topics that have been widely ignored or partially
approached, she addresses them in a way that seeks to not only spark a conversation but ensure
the conversation is uncensored and gets to the root of the issue. Of the nine chapters this book,
chapter six was perhaps the most significant because it is here that we are given a firm grasp on
what Ali is aiming to convey with this book. Through an analysis of this chapter it will become
clear that this chapter was used to fully develop her idea of readdressing what is considered
Islamic, the actions of Muslims, the way scholars justify beliefs, and issues... Show more content on

A similar point is made in chapter 7 about the word muslimmun and how it can be used to refer
to both men and women (Ali, 148). Furthermore, we also see Ali contesting a verse that suggests
men have authority and are responsible for women but only in financial terms then when a
woman supports herself the man no longer has authority or responsibility (Ali, 153). Here we see
Ali furthering the idea from chapter 6 because she is displaying how women have progressed and
in modern day many women are independent; therefore, its important to look back at verses like
this and view them as a product of their time as Ali suggests about sunna and hadith as a whole (Ali,
128). As previously stated, Ali asks if perhaps Islamis what Muslims practice in their daily lives.
However, she debunks that because Muslims lives vary and what some do contradicts the
authoritative texts. In my previous analysis of how translation can be manipulated, a patriarchal
undertone was present and it is also present when dealing with the subject of the daily lives of
Muslims. This undertone is present throughout the book and is heightened in this chapter.
Ali states that FGC (female genital circumcision) is not merely a customary practice incorrectly
understood as having religious authority (Ali, 131). This is stated

Disadvantages Of Salting
Initially created as a response to the decline in union membership, salting is a program where union
members are encouraged by their union to seek employment at a non union company. Once the
individual(s) are hired, they begin to promote unionization. Their union may provide them with a
union wage in addition to their regular rate of pay. There are three different types of salting. The
first is in cases where union jobs are not available. When this occurs, union members are
encouraged to look for employment at nonunion companies and on their own time. They are also
encouraged to speak to the benefits of unionization with their fellow coworkers. Union members, in
these cases, are not compensated by the union. The second type of salting

Tet Offensive Book Report
I was pretty lucky to find this book because it directly focuses on my research question. This book
spotlights the Tet Offensive and the lasting effects that it had on America s involvement in the
Vietnam War. James Willbank s thesis states that the Tet Offensive was a pivotal event in the
Vietnam War that forever changed America s commitment to the cause. The organization of the
book is very well thought out. At first, he gives the audience a quick overview of the events
leading to the Tet Offensive. The author then separates each major event of the Tet Offensive
(Saigon/Embassy, Hue, Khe Sanh) into easy to read chapters. Willbanks then wraps up with the
media s involvement in the war and how it influenced the public s opinion.

Wizard Of Oz Archetypes
The classic fantasy The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a story written by L. Frank Baum, who
suffered from a heart condition. Since he was unable to participate in many activities as a teen he
resulted in writing, allowing him to escape the real world and live through his fantasies. Starting in
Kansas and moving into the Land of Ozit is the reoccurring patterns of symbolic and situational
archetypes that bring the story to life. Although originally written as a piece of children s
literature, it is a story that people of all ages love. Literature has the ability to take readers to
another place better than the real world. Expressive use of vivid colours throughout the Land of Oz,
unfortunate situations that lead to newfound friendships and Dorothy s purposeful journey allows
readers to visualize how life would be living in a childhood fantasy.
Firstly, the symbolism of colour plays a major role in expressing various emotions throughout
the story. In the beginning, Dorothy sees nothing but the great grey prairie on every side (Baum
3); surround by grey Dorothy feels drained and unhappy. Kandinsky a Russian painter and art
theorist sates it is soundless and motionless... grey expresses a hopeless stillness the greyness of
her home life emphasizes how boring the real world can seem at times. In contrast, the Land of
Oz is full of bright vivid colours and beautiful sights (Baum 7) representing a dream world full of
adventure and excitement. As Dorothy arrives in Oz she is

Joey Skizzen Character Analysis
Much of Joey Skizzen s adult life is consumed by the task of discovering his real identity,
whether it be done by learning more of his father s past and his life in Austria, or by crafting a
new, American persona. Throughout the novel, Joey s name regularly changes to better fit his
social circumstances; he adopts a Jewish name to flee Austria, an American one to enter America,
goes by Joey during his school days, and then adopts Joseph during his search for employment. He
remains detached from his negligent father for the vast majority of the novel, meaning that he

Backup And Recovery Essay
[h1] 5 Signs Your Backup and Recovery Solution Needs Help
Meta description: Companies need to assess their backup and recovery to ensure it doesn t lack
coherence, visibility, sufficient storage, and ability to recover current data.
How confident is your business in its backup and recovery solution? Many companies set up their
backup and recovery strategy and simply put faith in its ability to work in the event of an outage.
Most companies treat backup and recovery like an umbrella. They only think about it when it rains.
The 2016 State of Disaster Recovery report found that 40% of companies fail to test their backup
and recovery regularly, doing so only once a year.

As data volumes increase, so do the capacity demands placed on your backup and recovery
resources. If your business hasn t planned for workload increases, you may not have enough room
to store all your backup data.
To prepare for future backup capacity needs, your business needs to be able to scale easily. Data
management tools also help to lessen the burden of backing up data. Compression and deduplication
make backing up and archiving information more efficient.
[h2] 4) Dependence on On site Infrastructure
The consequences of natural disasters and ransomware attacks are lessons in why backing up on
site is unwise. The same gale force winds or flood that takes out your primary storage will disable
your on site backup systems. Recent incarnations of ransomware automatically delete backup files.
In the current risk landscape, using a colocation site or cloud data center for backup makes more
sense. If your primary data center is compromised, your vital data will be safe at a secondary
location.
[h2] 5) Lack of Access to Current Data
Today s companies rely on real time analytics to make the right business decisions. Setting rapid
recovery time (RTOs) and point objectives (RPOs) is the key to accessing fresh data after an
outage. The faster your business can recover data without losing much information, the better.
If your company backs up infrequently, you may not be able to meet recovery point

Offensive action and the liberation of towns and cities would lead to an uprising against the US
their belief was the South Vietnamese soldiers were tired and weary soldiers, dislocated peasantry,
fractious youth and widely discontented layers of South Vietnamese society were ready to join the

this campaign. The Tet Offensive also aided in changing the view and minds of the American
people as this was the same time, live televised coverage of the war was a harsh reality to so many
Americans which had changed their views on the Vietnam War. President Johnson became
increasingly unpopular to the point he had chosen not to seek re election during the following
Presidential campaign. The Tet Offensive was the true turning point for US involvement in the
Vietnam War, it was the catalyst for Nixon s campaign to bring troops back home and pulling out

Symbols In Esperanza Rising By Pam MuГѓВ±oz Ryan
Esperanza Ortega of El Rancho de las Rosas is a young Hispanic girl that must overcome
strenuous obstacles in order to help her family. The novel Esperanza Rising by Pam MuГ±oz Ryan
has many symbols that contribute to the theme, but one of the major motifs present is the process
of crocheting the quilt. This symbol lasts throughout the entire book, but the message only gets
stronger for this symbol goes hand in hand with the storyline. Esperanza is an only child in her
family, and during this time it was not acceptable for women to own land. When Esperanza s
papa gets killed there were no other men in the family, so the land that Esperanza had grown up
on and loved would soon all be taken away. Unless her mama sacrificers herself and... Show more

The crochet technique of making mountains and valleys applies greatly to everything that
Esperanza goes through on her migration to California. This symbol is both in a literal and a
figurative sense. Esperanza literally starts at the top in Mexico. She lives on acres of land in a
beautiful vineyard, she has servants, and is well educated. But when trouble arrives, Esperanza
must go to the bottom of the valley in California. Here she has nothing; she lives in a small
house in an immigrant farm, she works hard every day, and she does not know any English. Life
as she knew it had completely changed. Migrating to a new place that is unknown, everyone is
new, and the language is not known is a grueling change and as a young child this must have
been very difficult for Esperanza to handle. In Esperanza s eyes every step she takes just brings
her lower and lower into the valley. Nothing seems to be going right, it is almost as if the
figurative mountain Esperanza must climb keeps growing taller. In Esperanza s eyes she was
taken from her perfect world and placed into a world where she could no longer feel the heart
beat of the earth (MuГ±oz Ryan 92). This was detrimental to her, for she had no idea what to do
next; she had given up. Esperanza finally began to understand her new life, but as soon as mama
became ill, Esperanza s world shattered all around her again. She no longer had papa, abuelita, or
mama by her side. She was all alone and it was up to her to climb up the

The History Of Environmental Policy In Brazil
Under the Special Secretariat of the Environment, framework was established to mirror that of the
United States Environmental Protection Agency. In 1974, the Industrial Pollution Control and
Prevention Law identified major metropolitan regions as environmentally critical which in turn
made SEMA in charge of the zoning guidelines. A year later, additional legislation was passed to
refine the state s responsibilities in environmental management and enforcement by allowing city
and state governments to regulate industrial and manufacturing operations. The following year, in
1976, the establishment of national air standards were developed to monitor and regulate particulate
matter, ozone, nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The SENEM is responsible for administering the National Environmental Fund and distributing
resources in support of the Brazilian environmental policies. The National Environment Council
(CONAMA) was created to serve the Secretary for the Environment as an advisory council and to
set environmental and occupational standards and establish regulatory requirements for pollution.
(Durmmond Barros Platiau, 2006) Over the next decade the new Brazilian Constitution, solidified
four key principles of Brazil s environmental policy. Primarily it established minimum air and water
standards at the federal level, and allowed the state the ability to strengthening them to fit their
particular environmental concerns. Secondarily, it allowed for flexibility in regulating pollution
generated by various industries and limit their impact on the local ecosystem. In practicality, this
segment established ecological reserves on the federal level and state governments to influence the
establishment of industrial parks or zones. As of the early 2000s, only Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro
and Santa Catarina have actively applied these industrial zoning management authorizations. Third,
permits became integral on the state level to keep control over the environmental management
system controlling regulated releases into the environment. Finally, the ability levy fines and
system of appeals were integrated into the law allowing regulators

The Fish By Elizabeth Bishop
The Fish by Elizabeth Bishop is a very colorful poem filled with lots of different outcomes than
our usual expectations. The poem is very symbolic through its use color and the fish it describes.
The poem is also written in free verse, which you could relate to the nature of the fish. It is set on a
boat in the middle of the ocean, with the ocean symbolizing chaos, the nature of the poem. The fish
causes some conflict within this poem. First, the fish changes the speaker s expectation of how
events will occur. We can infer that the speaker did not find catching the fish as fulfilling as she
thought she would have. Based on the long debating and dangling of the fish, it is obvious that the
speaker feels at least moderately conflicted about

German Influence On American Culture
The groups project I will be analyzing is German and my partner will analyze Iranian. I will be
doing research on the first, second, and third waves of German. I will explore the three major
themes: why German migration to U.S, Assimilation, and what did the contributions or how did
they influence American culture. From this research I learned that German immigrants and their
children identity meant maintenance of their language and religious institutions. That the Germans
left their homeland for freedom from military, religious, political oppression, and for economic
reason. Since German was overpopulation that individual who lived in rural communities can t get
jobs in the cities. Which made many German to leave Germanyto America. Upon

Would anyone engage in smoking cigarettes if each cigarette had an effect written on the side, such

The Woman Card Was Written By Jill Lepore 27 Essay
The woman card was written by Jill Lepore 27 june 2016, and I have found several of her articles
relevant to my research. Lepore seems to be very educated in politics, and I find her articles to
be very well researched and informative. Her articles seem to be relevant to everyone in general,
she wants the readers to be informed and make educated opinions. Lepore likes to talk about the
past and contrast it to the present. This is a very great way to inform readers of the history and
sacrifices women had to go through to get where we are today. The women s party has only been
around 100 years, this year, and without it, our country would not be where it is today. I thought
that Hillary was going to be the first women president, instead we have the first president who
has never held a political office. Clinton spoke to women when she debated and when she was at
rallies. She reached out to women specifically trying to earn their vote, and with all the protests
lately she seemed to have reached a lot of women, as well as men. Most of the time women are
more compassionate, understanding, and motherly, whereas men are not. It has taken a long time
for women to accomplish the things we have, and Lepore talks about this in several of her articles.
This article illuminates my bibliography topic because it lets people know the history behind
women and voting as well as each of the candidates and their affiliations. This article even talks

The Teaching Of English As A Foreign Language Essay
The growing influence of western powers in the south east region, including Thailand, made it
inevitable for the people to interconnect with outsiders. Moreover, the impact of World War II,
Anglo American economic, technology, scientific and cultural activity has come to dominate the
world as the whole, as a result, English has become the primary global lingua franca (Darasawang,
Reinders, Waters, 2015, p. 2) . The teaching of English as a foreign language (TEFL) in Thailand
has initially started from the mid 19th century and it still plays the predominant role in Thai
educationnowadays. The national English curriculum made a major paradigm shift in mandating
English as a compulsory subject in schools and universities. The English teaching method was
influenced by western educational ideology of values system or classical humanism where
knowledge is seen as a set of revealed truths possessed by the teacher whose task is to pass it on to
the learners (J. L. Clark, 1987cited in Darasawang, Reinders, Waters, 2015).Thus, the dominant
teaching method has been grammar translation . Todd (2005cited in Darasawang, Reinders and
Walter, 2015, p.3) stated that
English teaching in Thailand has been dominated by the traditional talk and chalk approach where
classrooms are teacher centered and explanation of English grammar given in Thai
predominate...this traditional approach is still the most common...
This statement reflects a scenario of a typical English classroom as a

Sam Gribley s My Side Of The Mountain
My Side of the Mountain begins with a diary entry by Sam Gribley, which he writes while he is
holed up inside a tree in the Catskill Mountains during a blizzard. He claims that he is snug and
safe. When the entry ends, a slightly older Sam explains that before that blizzard arrived he
worked for months building his house in the tree, learning to make fires, collecting stores of
food, and so on. When winter arrived he had plenty of supplies, but he was still scared. Luckily
he stayed safe and warm through the storm. When it was over, he knew he had made the right
choice when he ran away from his crowded New York apartment to live in the woods. At this
point in the story, the focus shifts back to the beginning of Sam s experience. It is May when he
leaves New York with a penknife, a ball of chord, an ax, and $40 as well as a flint and steel for
making fires. He has told his father that he plans to find his great grandfather s farm in the
Catskill Mountains and live there. His father says that every boy should try some such adventure
at least once in his life. He wishes Sam good luck but clearly expects him to be home... Show more

During these early days, Sam is constantly uncomfortable, especially from hunger. He does not

Lord Of The Flies Asch Conformity Experiment
In Lord Of The Flies the boys are faced with a choice of who to follow such as in the Asch
Conformity Experiment when they were faced with the challenge of being different and choosing
what they thought was right. The Lord Of The Flies shows how when faced to make a choice the
main factor that will sway the decision is surrounding peers. In the Asch ConformityExperiment the
test subjects were asked to match a certain line length with one of three choices. Asch had told all
but one subject what line to choose and when the one subject that had not been told what choice
to choose most all the time picked the same line as the others. The times that the subject picked
the right answer was when there was another subject that was told to pick the right choice this
made the subject feel as he was not alone. When the boys in Lord Of The Flies are alone on a
decision that they have chosen they decide to follow the crowd that has the most followers not

Analysis Of A Certain Lady By Dorothy Parker
Love, by definition, is an intense feeling of affection, associated with attachment. Love can be
very painful for many people since they end up getting hurt by the person they love. With the
power love possesses, it has been used throughout literature in plays, books, poems, essays, and
more. Dorothy Parker was a writer starting when she was in her twenties. Over the years, she began
writingher own books, which became very popular. She expanded her writing style through her
career and became very well known for how realistic and blunt her writing was. In the poem A
Certain Lady, Dorothy Parker uses symbolism to convey a theme of how damaging lovecan be. For
example, Parker describes eager lips to show her attraction to him, even though he was causing
her pain by not being faithful. She also describes that her heart is dying over and over every time
he tells her of his excursions with other women. Parker seems regretful by the way she ends her
poem, and the characters are never described individually.
Symbolism is used throughout Parker s poem, creating an unclear connotation. She uses words
such as eager lips to show how intense her emotions are. She feels so very strong for her
companion that she is longing for, that she is hopeful for him to come back to her. Even though
she misses him and wants him to come back from his trips, it is bittersweet for her because he
always tells her about what exactly he has been doing while he was away. Parker also uses
symbolism as she writes that her heart dies over and over, each time her companion explains how
he has been with other women. This could represent that her love is dying for him each time he
cheats on her, or that she is so disappointed in him that she cannot give him her whole heart.
Though she seems desperate sometimes throughout the poem, I believe the female character is a
strong woman who may just be intimidated by the man she loves, or even scared of what might
happen if she were to leave.
Parker ends the poem with a regretful, mysterious tone. The last lines of the poem read And what
goes on, my love, while you re away, You ll never know. Ending the poem with the uncertainty of
not knowing what really happens when he is away really allows for

Brief Biography And Accomplishments Of Oprah Winfrey
Brief Biography and Accomplishments Oprah Winfrey is an icon and role model to men and
women all over the world. Many would find it difficult to pinpoint her greatest accomplishment
as Oprah has affected the lives of so many in catastrophic ways. However, Oprah wasn t someone
who was simply brought up on sums of money, she created her own luck and surpassed traumatic
obstacles that continued to sculpt her into the woman she is today. For Winfrey it all began
when she was born in 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She had a less than traditional upbringing
since her parents were never married and drifted apart, leaving Oprah in the care of her
grandmother. This is where she learned to read and write and develop the speaking skills that
she carried with her through her carrier. As a child she developed these skills through poetry
recitals and other public speaking events. Winfrey s troubles began around the age of 9 when
she started to act out. Her lack of parental supervision left Winfrey extremely vulnerable as she
sought attention elsewhere. Before the age of 10 Winfrey was sexually abused by various men,
including her teenage cousin and mother s boyfriend. Winfrey felt ashamed and held this
experience a secret with her for years to come. As Winfrey continued to act out her mother
shipped her off to live with her father in Tennessee. He was a strict disciplinary figure, something
Winfrey greatly lacked in her life, and it was this man who changed her life drastically. My

It has become fan favorites all over the world. It will literally take you out your seat in fear. Can
you guess which one it is? It is indeed the genre of horror. Horror has been around for ages in
entertainment and when it hit the games back in the late 1980s it wasn t as popular as it is now.
The game that started it all was Resident Evil 1 for PlayStation 1. As a kid, most remember
playing this game and enjoying every moment of the jump scares and total rampage. It was a
horror game that also added the factor of a third person shooter, surviving in a whole lot of
different scenarios, having you stay up for hours trying to complete the whole game and explore
every crevice of the game. The franchise is one of the most popular of them all. Another
example of the more popular games that came out back in 2014 is Five Nights At Freddy s. The
franchise has then released many more games after that ranging from Five Nights At Freddy s 1
all the way to 4, Five Nights At Freddy s World and Five Nights At Freddy s : Sisters Location.

Grimm vs Disney Essay
Chelsea Cruz Professor Blevins April 12, 2012 English 101 Grimm vs. Disney Most people
cannot imagine coveted childhood fairytale with pure sadistic characters, blood, death and
neglect. Disney motion pictures have depicted their classic fairytales by painting picture of
princess with a loving parent, a dead parent, and a wonderful outlook on life with just the hope
of dreams coming true. Many people cannot fathom the idea of a beloved fairytale containing the
dark acts of rape, torture, and cannibalism. After all, Snow White s apple was just meant to put

In the Disney tale, her father is depicted as a loving and caring man whose most sacred is his
daughter Cinderella. In Grimm s version the two stepsisters are not ugly but actually beautiful
with evil inside them. The step sisters continuously abuse and mistreat Cinderella and her father
doesn t die but instead turns a blind eye to the situation and lets it continue. As the story
continues it is clear that Cinderella s father abandons her. After the ball Disney ends their story
with the prince searching for the maiden who fits the shoe. Cinderella is locked away so she
wouldn t be able to try it on the glass slipper and then is rescued by her furry friends. She then
shows that the shoe is indeed hers and she and the prince live happily ever after. In Grimm s
version, although a lot more graphic, we are told that in a desperate attempt to fit the coveted
shoe, the step sisters cut off pieces of their feet and trick the prince until two crows relay him a
message exposing their deficit. The crows then pluck out the eyes of the step sisters and they,
along with their black hearted mother, are left as beggars. Disney s version doesn t go into
detail about the consequences of the Cinderella s step relatives. Grimm s tale conveys a story of
a girl whose morals, soul, and faith in God and her mother s words are what defines her beauty.
They reinstate this point by describing even the step sisters as works of beauty. By

Venous Thromboembolism And Pulmonary Embolism
Venous Thromboembolism
Venous thromboembolism (VTE), including both deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary
embolism (PE), is reognised as the leading cause of preventable in hospital mortality. DVT is the
formation of blood clots in a deep vein usually the large veins in the leg or pelvis. The most
serious complication of a DVT is that the clot could dislodge and travel to the lungs, becoming a
life threatening blood clot in the lungs, pulmonary embolism. When a blood clot breaks loose and

present mainly in the superficial veins and, for this reason this pathology is often called
thrombophlebitis. It is a disorder that can occur in all races and ethnicities, all age groups, and both
genders. Despite a marked increase in federal and national efforts to raise awareness and
acknowledge the need for VTE prevention, VTE continues to remain as an important and growing
public health problem. Unfortunately, VTE recurs frequently and is commonly overlooked, affects
both hospitalized and non hospitalized patients, and results in long term complications including
chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTPH) and the post thrombotic syndrome (PTS).

The Lottery
Society follows traditions that have been passed down over time, although, many do not know the
origin. The short story The Lottery contains several symbols that were important throughout the
story. Old man Warner is a fabulous example of a man stuck in the old traditional way of thinking.
The old box, which hold papers, is another example the original tradition that has been around as
long as one can remember. Additionally, the stones also represent death and participation of the

symbols within The Lottery that show the deeper meaning of what the lottery represents.
In The Lottery , old man Warner is stuck in his old traditional ways and feels the lottery is a

tradition that has remained constant since the traditions, the stoning is another part of the tradition

  • 3. Side Effects Of Cyber Bullying Social media is a phrase that we throw around a lot these days, often to describe what we post on sites and apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and others. The social part: refers to interacting with other people by sharing information with them and receiving information from them. The media part: refers to an instrument of communication, like the internet (while TV, radio, and newspapers are examples of more traditional forms of media). Social media are web based communication tools that enable people to interact with each other by both sharing and consuming information. However, social media may have some side effects such as cyberbullying, which may have negative impacts on the life of people, especially children and teenagers. Cyberbullying can be defined as aggressive, intentional actions performed by an individual or a group of people via digital communication methods such as sending messages and posting comments against a victim. Different from traditional bullying that usually occurs at school during face to face communication, cyberbullying on social media can take place anywhere at any time. For bullies, they are free to hurt their peers feelings because they do not need to face someone and can hide behind the Internet. For victims, they are easily exposed to harassment since all of us, especially youth, are constantly connected to Internet or social media. As reported cyberbullying victimization rate ranges from 10% to 40%. In the United States, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Failure to protect sensitive customer data can result in serious Business losses and other major negative impacts in business operations. Card Systems Solutions and its successor has been known for the world s largest client data comprise ever since. This was due to failure to properly protect sensitive card information of millions of customers cards it processed during its operation. This incident saw the FTC identify several practices that could have possibly led to the breach. These included failure to use strong passwords, failure to employ sufficient measure to restrict system access to computers and the internet, some of which were low cost and easy to establish measures nevertheless, the company did not carry out regular tests to assess the vulnerability of their system to the outside world, a situation that made them vulnerable to even the simplest attacked. • 9. Apple And Foxconn Case Study Assessment 2 Case Synthesis: Apple and Foxconn Introduction The consumer electronics magnate Apple Inc. has been accused of labor abuse in its Asian supply chain. The acquiescence of underage labor, excessive working hours and illegitimate low wage in China based Foxconn factories is clear evidence of corporate social responsibility (CSR) omission. In fact, such acquiescence is the result of an exploitation chain, with Apple at the top, Chinese workers at the bottom and Foxconn in between. Key issues Low bargaining power and labor market disequilibrium The inelasticity of labor supply curtails the bargaining power of workers and places them at a disadvantage against their employer. Most of Foxconn employees are underprivileged and consequently undereducated. The first feature deprives them of alternatives other than working to support their families and the second pronounces that they are unqualified for many occupations other than mechanical chores on the assembly line. They have some good point of views that I think if we could combine them together, we would have a perfect Social Contract. Hobbes created Social Contract in the 17th Century when the world was wild and dangerous to him. People was too self interested that they would do whatever it took to survive. He called it state of nature , a place where life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short . He believed that we need Social Contract and a good government to protect and guide us. The chapters deal with topics that have been widely ignored or partially approached, she addresses them in a way that seeks to not only spark a conversation but ensure the conversation is uncensored and gets to the root of the issue. Of the nine chapters this book, chapter six was perhaps the most significant because it is here that we are given a firm grasp on what Ali is aiming to convey with this book. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A similar point is made in chapter 7 about the word muslimmun and how it can be used to refer to both men and women (Ali, 148). Furthermore, we also see Ali contesting a verse that suggests men have authority and are responsible for women but only in financial terms then when a woman supports herself the man no longer has authority or responsibility (Ali, 153). Here we see Ali furthering the idea from chapter 6 because she is displaying how women have progressed and in modern day many women are independent; therefore, its important to look back at verses like this and view them as a product of their time as Ali suggests about sunna and hadith as a whole (Ali, 128). As previously stated, Ali asks if perhaps Islamis what Muslims practice in their daily lives. However, she debunks that because Muslims lives vary and what some do contradicts the authoritative texts. In my previous analysis of how translation can be manipulated, a patriarchal undertone was present and it is also present when dealing with the subject of the daily lives of Muslims. This undertone is present throughout the book and is heightened in this chapter. Ali states that FGC (female genital circumcision) is not merely a customary practice incorrectly understood as having religious authority (Ali, 131). This is stated ... Lepore seems to be very educated in politics, and I find her articles to be very well researched and informative. Her articles seem to be relevant to everyone in general, she wants the readers to be informed and make educated opinions. Lepore likes to talk about the past and contrast it to the present. This is a very great way to inform readers of the history and sacrifices women had to go through to get where we are today. The women s party has only been around 100 years, this year, and without it, our country would not be where it is today. I thought that Hillary was going to be the first women president, instead we have the first president who has never held a political office. Clinton spoke to women when she debated and when she was at rallies. She reached out to women specifically trying to earn their vote, and with all the protests lately she seemed to have reached a lot of women, as well as men. Most of the time women are more compassionate, understanding, and motherly, whereas men are not. It has taken a long time for women to accomplish the things we have, and Lepore talks about this in several of her articles. This article illuminates my bibliography topic because it lets people know the history behind women and voting as well as each of the candidates and their affiliations. This article even talks about the Republican Party that was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Teaching Of English As A Foreign Language Essay The growing influence of western powers in the south east region, including Thailand, made it inevitable for the people to interconnect with outsiders. Moreover, the impact of World War II, Anglo American economic, technology, scientific and cultural activity has come to dominate the world as the whole, as a result, English has become the primary global lingua franca (Darasawang, Reinders, Waters, 2015, p. 2) . The teaching of English as a foreign language (TEFL) in Thailand has initially started from the mid 19th century and it still plays the predominant role in Thai educationnowadays. The national English curriculum made a major paradigm shift in mandating English as a compulsory subject in schools and universities. The English teaching method was influenced by western educational ideology of values system or classical humanism where knowledge is seen as a set of revealed truths possessed by the teacher whose task is to pass it on to the learners (J. L. Clark, 1987cited in Darasawang, Reinders, Waters, 2015).Thus, the dominant teaching method has been grammar translation . Todd (2005cited in Darasawang, Reinders and Walter, 2015, p.3) stated that English teaching in Thailand has been dominated by the traditional talk and chalk approach where classrooms are teacher centered and explanation of English grammar given in Thai predominate...this traditional approach is still the most common... Sam Gribley s My Side Of The Mountain My Side of the Mountain begins with a diary entry by Sam Gribley, which he writes while he is holed up inside a tree in the Catskill Mountains during a blizzard. He claims that he is snug and safe. When the entry ends, a slightly older Sam explains that before that blizzard arrived he worked for months building his house in the tree, learning to make fires, collecting stores of food, and so on. When winter arrived he had plenty of supplies, but he was still scared. Luckily he stayed safe and warm through the storm. When it was over, he knew he had made the right choice when he ran away from his crowded New York apartment to live in the woods. At this point in the story, the focus shifts back to the beginning of Sam s experience. It is May when he leaves New York with a penknife, a ball of chord, an ax, and $40 as well as a flint and steel for making fires. He has told his father that he plans to find his great grandfather s farm in the Catskill Mountains and live there. • 36. Analysis Of A Certain Lady By Dorothy Parker Love, by definition, is an intense feeling of affection, associated with attachment. Love can be very painful for many people since they end up getting hurt by the person they love. With the power love possesses, it has been used throughout literature in plays, books, poems, essays, and more. Dorothy Parker was a writer starting when she was in her twenties. Over the years, she began writingher own books, which became very popular. She expanded her writing style through her career and became very well known for how realistic and blunt her writing was. In the poem A Certain Lady, Dorothy Parker uses symbolism to convey a theme of how damaging lovecan be. For example, Parker describes eager lips to show her attraction to him, even though he was causing her pain by not being faithful. She also describes that her heart is dying over and over every time he tells her of his excursions with other women. Parker seems regretful by the way she ends her poem, and the characters are never described individually. Symbolism is used throughout Parker s poem, creating an unclear connotation. She uses words such as eager lips to show how intense her emotions are. She feels so very strong for her companion that she is longing for, that she is hopeful for him to come back to her. Even though she misses him and wants him to come back from his trips, it is bittersweet for her because he always tells her about what exactly he has been doing while he was away. Parker also uses symbolism as she writes that her heart dies over and over, each time her companion explains how he has been with other women. This could represent that her love is dying for him each time he cheats on her, or that she is so disappointed in him that she cannot give him her whole heart. Though she seems desperate sometimes throughout the poem, I believe the female character is a strong woman who may just be intimidated by the man she loves, or even scared of what might happen if she were to leave. Parker ends the poem with a regretful, mysterious tone. The last lines of the poem read And what goes on, my love, while you re away, You ll never know. Ending the poem with the uncertainty of not knowing what really happens when he is away really allows for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many would find it difficult to pinpoint her greatest accomplishment as Oprah has affected the lives of so many in catastrophic ways. However, Oprah wasn t someone who was simply brought up on sums of money, she created her own luck and surpassed traumatic obstacles that continued to sculpt her into the woman she is today. For Winfrey it all began when she was born in 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She had a less than traditional upbringing since her parents were never married and drifted apart, leaving Oprah in the care of her grandmother. This is where she learned to read and write and develop the speaking skills that she carried with her through her carrier. As a child she developed these skills through poetry recitals and other public speaking events. Winfrey s troubles began around the age of 9 when she started to act out. Her lack of parental supervision left Winfrey extremely vulnerable as she sought attention elsewhere. Before the age of 10 Winfrey was sexually abused by various men, including her teenage cousin and mother s boyfriend. Winfrey felt ashamed and held this experience a secret with her for years to come. As Winfrey continued to act out her mother shipped her off to live with her father in Tennessee. He was a strict disciplinary figure, something Winfrey greatly lacked in her life, and it was this man who changed her life drastically. My ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the story continues it is clear that Cinderella s father abandons her. After the ball Disney ends their story with the prince searching for the maiden who fits the shoe. Cinderella is locked away so she wouldn t be able to try it on the glass slipper and then is rescued by her furry friends. Venous Thromboembolism And Pulmonary Embolism Venous Thromboembolism Venous thromboembolism (VTE), including both deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), is reognised as the leading cause of preventable in hospital mortality. DVT is the formation of blood clots in a deep vein usually the large veins in the leg or pelvis. The most serious complication of a DVT is that the clot could dislodge and travel to the lungs, becoming a life threatening blood clot in the lungs, pulmonary embolism. When a blood clot breaks loose and travels in the blood, this is called a venous thromboembolism. An inflammatory reaction is usually present mainly in the superficial veins and, for this reason this pathology is often called thrombophlebitis. It is a disorder that can occur in all races and ethnicities, all age groups, and both genders. Despite a marked increase in federal and national efforts to raise awareness and acknowledge the need for VTE prevention, VTE continues to remain as an important and growing public health problem. Unfortunately, VTE recurs frequently and is commonly overlooked, affects both hospitalized and non hospitalized patients, and results in long term complications including chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTPH) and the post thrombotic syndrome (PTS).
