2. How Does Hardy Use Imagery In The Convergence Of The Twain
Often times in poetry, authors use metaphors and imagery to relate thematic elements in their
writing to significant components of their personal life or general human nature. Frequently, poets
use their writing as a vehicle to subtly narrate their inner struggles or personal conflicts to the
audience. In the poem The Convergence of the Twain, author Thomas Hardy introduces the harsh
relationship between human vanity and the formidable power of nature. Due to Hardy s upbringing
in rural England, he often wrote about his isolated life and the hindrance that work and religion
had on his education. According to Wikipedia, Hardy also criticized those involved in English
Victorian society and the declining status of rural men and women. The recurring themes of man s
inferiority and the worthlessness of material values in Hardy s work can be attributed to his belief
that religion and human materialism are often at the root of unhappiness and mankind s inferiority
to nature. Similar to Hardy s frustration during his childhood, author Elizabeth Bishop grew up in
the early 1900s with an unstable familywhile struggling to find a place of belonging in society.
Prior to moving in with her grandparents, Bishop s father passed away before she was one year of
age and her mother suffered through serious mental instability until she was admitted to an
institution when Bishop turned five years old. In Bishop s poem The Fish, the author utilizes vivid
imagery to highlight the positive

3. Iodine Clock Reaction Lab Report
Abstract: In this iodine clock reaction, a set amount of a vitamin c solution was mixed with a
tincture of, red brown, Iodine solution in a starch solution. Immediately the solution becomes
clear and lacking in all color. This is due to the vitamin c molecules binding to the iodine
molecules. Thus, initiating a clock reaction in which the time it takes for a color change is
compared with the time it takes to produce a necessary amount of I2. By alternating between
different mixtures and concentrations of the reactants and measuring the time it takes for the
solution to turn blue black, which comes as a result of the I2 interacting with the starch, the
dependence of the reaction rate of the concentration can be shown. With a greater concentration
of the reactants, H2O2, I , and H+, in the reaction, the time needed for the color to change was less.
The individual orders for H2O2, I , and H+ are 1, 2, and 2 respectively. The overall order of this
reaction is 5, and the average rate constant is (k = 0.0544).
Introduction: The iodine clock reaction being performed is a simple experiment involving a vitamin
c solution, an iodine solution, and finally a hydrogen peroxide solution mixed at different
concentrations within a starch solution. This type of experiment allows scientists to work with and

5. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr s words on April 3, 1968 at Mason Temple in Memphis Tennessee
speaks through the ages and still grips me with an eerie feeling of prophetic conviction. King s
stirring words that night were classical pieces of rhetoric that will be preserved as a place mark
for the civil rights movement. When a sick, but yet powerful King bellowed out to the audience
I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the
promise land! ; he was eerily suggesting that his life may possibly be ending soon but the
movement continuing. This part of the speech is moving but yet stirring, and to many of the
people in attendance that night, disturbing. Here is this iconic figure telling a packed
congregation of weary, yet persistent people that he may not make the journey into the land that
produces a brighter day and better opportunities. This likens to the biblical story of Moses. After
leading the Children of Israel out of bondage for so long and tirelessly working to get them to
the land of Canaan Moses is told by God that he will not be the one to lead them into the land
flowing with milk and honey and that he will not enter therein at all. It is unnerving to think that
Martin knew that his time was at hand. That he had led his people as far as he could lead them.
The melancholy mood brought on by the thought of King s premature death turns into an emotional
cry of self assurance but also a dramatic exhale and a

6. The Theory Of International Relations Essay
Power and interests has always been the basis of the relationship among societies. As a result of the
quest along the history for the survival and development of the organized human groups around the
world, the international orders emerged to set how states relates to each other based on the amount
of power that they have and the interests they share at different moments of the history. With the
evolution of societies, international orders changes because of a major clash between great powers
where it is necessary a zero sum situation. To explain this, the paradigms of international relations
will be the main tool. The rise of an international order is a result of the accumulation of power
by a few big actors that are searching for hegemony. This is the idea that realist paradigm
proposes, and it is useful to understand how the countries related each other during the major
part of the history (from ancient times to middle age), where big empires and kingdoms divided
the globe. Anarchy is the natural state of things , and then power is the source of order that
allowed to the great powers to survive by taking resources from weak states under its protection.
Through the realist lens, great powers fought each other for raw materials and colonies, and the
actors (states) were personified by only one person (the emperor or king) using their big armies as
tool to impose only their interests. Alliances were a classical way of agreement, motivated only for
the need to balance power

7. Analysis Of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle And The Harvest...
Change is one of the most difficult things to do, it is always difficult to find what to change let
alone how to change. However, one of the key messages a writer can convey to an audience is
human compassion or empathy, to inspire action or change, and to bring about a deeper
understanding of the world. Both writer Upton Sinclairs fiction writing The Jungleand the non
fiction writing The Harvest Gypsies by John Steinbeck inform the reader of the difficulties faced
by immigrants and migrant workers. However while the author of The Jungle , Upton Sinclair, uses
descriptive details that show the plight of the immigrants, it is the deeper understanding of the
difficulties faced from the families in John Steinbeck s The Harvest Gypsies that are more
efficacious in evoking compassion and inspiring change.
In 1906 Upton Sinclair worked side by side with immigrants in the meatpacking industry
endeavoring to reveal what genuinely goes on within the factory walls. While doing so, Upton
Sinclair uses details that evoke compassion while bringing out a deeper understanding of their
world. In the fictional writing The Jungle, the author Upton Sinclair uses details such as ate as
much raw blood as food , mile after mile and describes the immigrant s journey as an endless vista
of pain and uncleanliness. Sinclair describes the journey of the immigrants as a journey of endless
suffering. It is the amount of suffering that the immigrants go through that evoke compassion while

8. Analysis Of The Book The Hardy Boys
The Hardy Boys series written by various authors, all under the pseudonym Franklin W. Dixon
has been around for a very long time. Their first appearance was in 1927, and they have survived
numerous reboots and reprints since then. Part of their charm, especially for kids, is that, unlike
Sherlock Holmes and other popular detectives, they are teenagers. Like their readers, they have
school, chores, and church on Sunday. This essay will focus, as far as plot is concerned on the
first book The Tower Treasure, the differences between the Hardy Boysand typical detective fiction,
as well as on the cultural impact of the books. The Tower Treasure begins with the sons of private
detective Fenton Hardy running an errand for their father. The errand and their lives are almost cut
short, however by a speeding car that nearly runs them off the road. They survive the incident, and
continue on, completing their errand successfully. They then detour to the farm of Chet Morton, a
school chum of the Hardy boys [who] lived on a farm about a mile out of Bayport (Dixon 14).
On the way to Chet s they discover the car that almost killed them overturned. They examine the
wreck to find that it has been abandoned. Upon arriving at Chet s, they discover that his jalopy,
the Queen has been stolen. They drive into their hometown of Bayport, where they run into Callie

9. Prenatal Care During The United States Essay
Prenatal care in the United States was not the way is today, there have been some improvements
in regards to prenatal care. The number of pregnant women who received prenatal care has
increased over the past 75 years (Zolotor and Carlough, 2014). Today, medical providers deliver
more integrated services, which includes evidence based screening, counseling, medical care, and
psychosocial support.
In the past, in the United States the majority of women delivered at home with no anesthetics;
women might have received assistance through a family doctor, including midwife care (Thomas,
2011). A radical change happened by the 1960s, when hospital childbirths had become the norm,
the pain of the experience was reduced by epidural anesthesia controlled by a physician. Pregnant
women received education on breastfeeding and other topics during their medical visits (Thomas,
2011).
Prenatal care policies were implemented to reduce infant mortality rates and poor birth outcomes.
Over the past several years commissioners recommended improving access to prenatal care. In
1980 congress initiated the expansion of Medicaid eligibility for pregnant women for the purpose
of improving prenatal care (Schlesinger and Kronebusch, 1990.) Some states integrated the Aid to
Families programs with Dependent Children care (AFDC) to assist women who live at the poverty
level and do not qualify for Medicaid until they become pregnant.

Working capital = Current assets Current liabilities
Note that the figure for net current assets appear almost in the centre of a balance sheet, and is a

Creditors due after more than one year shows the longer term liabilities of the bsiness.
Total net assets is calculated by taking away all the liabilities (both current and long term) from all
of the assets (both current and long term).

I.INTRODUCTION
Branding is a plan for earning product reputation and for making sure that the world knows about it
and believes in it too.
Branding is the process by which companies distinguish their product offerings from the
competition. Brands are created by creating a distinctive name, packaging and design. (Egan

Lean manufacturing is an incorporated socio technical framework, which involves a bundle of

Realism in Stephen Crane.
When a conflict between two powers reaches its peak, the war becomes inevitable. This usually
leads to the change in roles among men and women. Men turn into soldiers and women turn into
field nurses. . Living under critical conditions, one could die easily just by walking out the street or
starving to death due to uncontrollable hysteria. In such situations, one could truly reveal his
personality by either saving themselves or other individuals. .For that reason, Stephen Crane s short
story A Mystery of Heroism portrays the hidden heroism act that revolves around the main
character, Collins. Through the challenges and problems that Collins encounters , Crane
exemplifies the belief that war is cruel and meaningless.
From the beginning , Crane shows us war is all about destruction, demolition and nothing more but
blood. He does this by introducing a character named Fred Collins, who is described as an ordinary
soldier who knows nothing about the purpose of the war. In the story, the character is going
through a mysterious battle where shells and bullets fire endlessly. In this battle, the bodies of
many young soldiers appear to be dead. In addition, the field is endlessly being filled up with the
flowing blood. The author characterizes the scene by saying, A lieutenant of the battery rode down
and passed them, holding his right arm carefully in his left hand. This quote expresses an irony

1. Introduction:
What is reinsurance? Why do insurance companies go through the process of insuring policies
before transferring them to other entities? Reinsurance is a method which involves insurers insuring
their own respective risks with reinsurance firms. Firstly, an important function of reinsurance is to
ensure that the insurance operations of company s doesn t eventually lead to detrimental financial
losses. Catastrophes, unexpected liabilities, and a series of large losses that might be too great for
an individual insurer to absorb can be handled through reinsurance (McIsaac and Babbel ... Show

Also from time to time insurance companies are offered the opportunity to insure risks that are very
large or complex or simply unusual. In these situations facultative reinsurance is the best alternative
(Wehrhahn 2009).Secondly, treaty reinsurance was devised to solve some of the adverse features of
the facultative method. The treaty method is highly popular mainly because it is not as
cumbersome or as time consuming as the facultative method (Irukwu 1982). Treaty reinsurance
involves the negotiations between the insurance company and reinsurer before creating a
reinsurance contract. Under a treaty reinsurance arrangement all risks that are defined to be object
of the agreement are ceded automatically to the reinsurer, and the reinsurer agrees to accept all
those risks (Wehrhahn 2009). Reinsurers creating treaties, would not individually analyse each risk
related to the treaty. Instead they would review the insurance company in question and base their
decision related to the expertise of the company, its risk attitude, its track record, the expected
amount of business to be reinsured and other technical aspects (Wehrhahn 2009).
Reinsurance plays an important role in helping to stabilise the profitability of insurance companies.
In a sector where there can be large swings in losses are liable to occur, reinsurance offers a
method which lessens the financial effects for insurers

In this case, however, the Waivers bargained for in the AIA contract are neither rights, claims,

upon the express waiver that Metropolitan gave, which serves as a negative defense to National
Surety s breach of contract claim. Additionally, National Surety relies on Allstate Ins. Co. v.

to arbitration is not immediately tendered the way a waiver is. Rather, an arbitration clause is an
executory right that may be invoked in the future. As such, the executory arbitration clause may be
modified via subsequent agreement, but a waiver may not because it is tendered upon when the
waiver is given. Contrary to Metropolitan s averment before the Circuit Court and National Surety

exercised in the future or a right possessed by anyone at all. Rather, a waiver is a present
relinquishment of a right that is tendered at

Depending on the protocols they need to support, packets tend to be constructed in the standard
packet format. Packet formats generally include a header, the body containing the message data,
also known as the payload, and sometimes a footer which is also known as the trailer. The packet
header shows the destination of the packet and often shows the length of the data in the message.
The packet footer contains data that implies the end of the packet, such as a special sequence of

This story is about an Indian boy from a poor reservation with an alcoholic father, who wishes
for a better life. In order to achieve this better life, Junior decides to move to another school in

He then states that his decision to move schools is a one way street , by saying so Alexie is
showing the readers that in their culture once you betray your tribe in any way you are shunned
in a sense. If he was to change his mind and go back to his former school on the reservation, he
would be beaten and ridiculed. By doing so Alexie is furthering the cultural understanding of the
text. Likewise, he does so in a similar way with the unwritten rules that were previously
mentioned. The Spokane Indians held these rules in such high regard that when Junior actually
followed these rules and struck his bully in the face, the bully just stood in awe. In Junior s
society the logical thing to do would be to attack when you are highly insulted. But on the
contrary, this new society did not follow his rules, nor did they have any of their own. By giving

unlike logos, was a bit difficult to identify in this specific story. However, the diction used by the
author made the story more realatable to the typical high school and/or college audience. Alexie
chose to use the diction that your everyday average college kid would use. Simple phrases used by

The decrease in membership in fraternities and sororities has occurred due to negative
representation in media and criminal reputations. However, students should join fraternities and

should also become members to be a part of a group life in which you are essentially guaranteed
lifelong friendships and a thriving social life. Although the monetary cost may be high and the
superficial representation in media makes fraternity and sorority members look daft and trouble

for your academic and extracurricular activities. The words fraternity and sorority can define any

Most Kenyans are heavy tea and coffee drinkers and do not consider a meal to be complete without

Nigerians generally have a wider variety of food than Kenyans, partly due to the Nigerian tropical
climate and vegetation that offers a larger variation of foods in comparison to the mostly dry and
unfertile land of Kenya. The common items on the Nigerian menu range from various finger foods
to more filling items. The finger foods include chin chin, crunchy little donuts cut into tiny
squares about one centimeter long and one centimeter wide, kose, little fried bean cakes with
onions and red peppers, suya, kabobs that are generously seasoned with cayenne pepper and
staked on sticks between slices of tomatoes, and fried sweet plantains lightly sprinkled with salt.
The more filling foods include pounded yams and egusi soup. Yams, the staple crop in Nigeria,
are like gigantic potatoes often the length of a grown man s arm. The yams are boiled and then
pounded in a mortar to create a dish dissimilar in taste but similar in looks to mashed potatoes.
Egusi soup is prepared from a melon seed that is ground into a powder and then combined with

Defining each character separately allowing the audience the ability to follow a storyline with a
conceptualized look defined prior to a performance was, and is needed as part of preproduction
preparations. Early performers were generally male, therefore costuming was needed for gender
disguise so as to create the illusion of the opposite sex. In Asia, the men would dress up as
women. Young men also played women in the plays during the 1500s and 1600s. Many of these
young teenage boys were very sickly and often died at a very young age. This was a direct result
of skin eating diseases caused by the white, led based face paint they were forced to wear during
performances; a very sad and gruesome ending to such a short life. Costuming also helps create
other character building imagery such as age. The leading characters will always have more detail
and design to make them stand out and relate a sense of trust to the audience. Styles and technique
have changed significantly over the centuries but have maintained basic principles of clothing
design yet geared towards pushing the out the character s personality and traits in its appearance.

30. Mccarthy Writing Style In Mccarthy s The Road

the elements that make the author s work unique? In other words, how is the work different from
others you ve read? Consider diction, style, text structure, setting, characters, etc.
In The Road, McCarthy writing style is minimalistic and poetic, but at times when he s describing
something lost to the world, his writing becomes more archaic in word choice while still retaining
its simplicity. Early in the book, McCarthy states He rose and stood tottering in that cold autistic
dark with his arms outheld for balance while the vestibular calculations in his skull cranked out

addition to these unusual words, McCarthy also has an odd way of phrasing them together (e.g.

When defining great literature, graphic novels are often the last source scholars and educators
consider. In general, graphic novels are seen as low brow, mass culture entertainment or as
pedagogical tools (Long 6). In recent years graphic novels have proven to be worthy of being
considered great literature and valuable tools in the classroom. Comic books should not be viewed
simply as aesthetic objects, but rather as texts which function when read by their audience within a
specific context. Our education curriculums are heavily relied on reading comprehension, which
has proven to be a struggle for visual learners. Graphic novels offer value, variety, and new
medium for literacy that acknowledges the impact of visuals. Novels such as Mausby Art
Spiegelman and The Sandman (vertigo) by Neil Gainman, not only appeal to visual learners, but are
useful across all curriculums. Maus and The Sandman offer different style narratives and visuals
that reflect the diverse nature of graphic novels. The variety in compositions between these two
demonstrate the strengths of the graphic novelgenre, and how they can be considered valuable
sources of education. The use of word image combination allow the reader of graphic novels to

compression, the visual components of graphic novels help portray the context in a medium that is
easier for these learners to digest. Maus by Art Spiegelman is one of

Introduction
When entering new markets, multinational corporations (MNCs) often form strategic alliances
with local companies. An alliance is where two or more organisations integrate to form a strategic,
business relationship (Finlay, 2000). The potential benefits of such alliances include access to
knowledge and resources, building a global network, market access, recognition and access to a
distribution network which can all provide MNCs with a competitive advantage in a foreign
market. However, MNCs also face many challenges when forming alliances in other countries
including loss of intellectual property, different expectations, various challenges of globalisation
(e.g. more stringent regulations being imposed on foreign firms), ethical and cultural considerations
and change management. This essay will focus on two of these challenges in depth change
management and cultural adaptation. However within these sections, certain other topics will also
be considered including leadership, innovation and diversity and globalisation. This essay will
critically discuss and analyse these challenges drawing on real world examples, academic theory
and additional research. It will also highlight and consider potential solutions to these challenges.
Change management

organisational change necessary to integrate two businesses which may have different cultures,

Poetry; a gift from the gods of literature, blessing all those that read it with intellect and
awareness of very important issues or even a fun piece of writing to indulge in. Throughout
history, many influential writers have made an impact on society with their writing. Raymond
Carver, an award winning writer, wrote many poems and stories throughout his career that
shaped writing for many other poets. Carver was born into a family of poverty and from a
young age, he did not have an ideal relationship with his parents due to the strong use of alcohol
by his father. Later on in his life, Carver became an alcoholic and tried to distance himself from
everyone around him and a career in life. It was very clear that he was going down a very negative
path; Carver got into a toxic marriage, was diagnosed with cancer, was hospitalized for his
drinking problems many times and was going to die. Once he moved to California and found his
passion for literature, his whole life seemed to have turned around. He began to feel happier, quit
drinking, divorced his first wife and married the love of his life, Tess Gallagher. Carver typically
writes stories, but also poems based on his life experiences. In Raymond Carvers Late Fragment, a
heavily enforced message is that it is not necessary to dwell on the smaller things in life because

Although there are two sides of the debate pro choice and pro life, arguments are mainly
centered around the Roe v. Wade decision, women s rights and state restrictive laws. Women
faced many difficulties before Roe V. Wade case. After the case the court made abortions
available to women in the United States. Some consider abortions immoral, which is why
abortion is a heavy topic. People believe in misconceptions that are based off of skewed facts

will cause bigger problems such as deaths from illegal abortion, women and children dying from
starvation. Making abortions illegal will not stop anything, women might go back to getting
unsafe and illegal abortion resulting in many deaths. Pro choice believers support the right to

43. The Origins Of The Viking Age
One of the most interesting times in medieval history is the era known as the Viking Age. When
these fierce sea borne raiders rummaged and plundered European sea ports of their valuables
and treasures. These Scandinavian inhabitants were known to most of the world as a barbaric
group, when in reality, there style of attacking had more skill than the world had seen. They
struck fear and intimidation into their victims and made the whole European seaboard quake in
angst for their arrival. Not only did they want to inflict fear into Europe as well as raid them
from their treasures, the Scandinavians were also looking to expand their kind to other parts of
Europe due to the lack of land in Scandinavia. One of the first things most citizens of the world
think of when you say Scandinavian is Vikings. However, this is not 100% accurate. The term
Viking was not a ethnicity or group of people, it was a job description. It did not apply to women,
children or slaves of the time, only the Scandinavian men. The Vikings were not illiterate, however,
they were also not able to write letters and letters of things they partook in. They did something
similar to other Germanic cultures and used a style of runic inscriptions. In the Viking society, their
law was fairly straight forward. They took into account the crime committed, but also the worth of
the victim before dealing out the punishment. Interestingly enough, however, individual rank also
played a factor in this decision. For

44. Personal Health Improvement Plan
Personal Health Improvement Plan Background In early January of 2016, I embarked on a new
challenge to improve my overall health. Looking back in the past 4 years, I know that I have
always found myself happiest when I was regularly exercising. Exercising decreased my anxiety
and depression and overall I was in a great mood. The idea behind setting up this challenge was
that I wanted to challenge myself to get to my old self, where I had an overall positive energy. I
set a goal that in the next 4 months, I wanted to lose 10 pounds. The pounds was a measurement
to see about the intensity of the workout, so I wanted to challenge myself a little bit more than
just going out for runs. Since I know that medical school is a very busy place, I figure that I
would be able commit to run at least 5 days per week. Methods I would lose 10 pounds by
running at least 5 times per week. The progress and the success of this goal would be measured
based on how much weight I lose as I get toward the end of the 4 months time period. This was
an attainable goal, since I have had previous experience in running. Running is important to me
because overall it improves not just my weight but also my moods and gives me overall peace. At
the start of the project this was very important to me on a scale of 1 to 10; I had rated it an 8 as

Running was great and I was able to follow 5 days per week for the first two weeks before I went

expectation of 10 pounds by altering my diets. So now I include more vegetables, eat 3 times and
snake in between per meal. I have been trying to improve my mood by sleeping more, which
means basically getting 8 hours per night. But once exams have settled down I am hoping to pick

Maluma, the colombian reggaeton singer who is from Medellin Colombia, and Pitbull, the hip hop
reggaeton singer who s from Miami Florida, share some familiar similarities and vast differences in
their background and songs. Both Maluma and Pitbull sing and rap to reggaeton music. With this in
mind, reggaeton originated in Puerto Rico and is considered hip hop and latin american music.
Reggaetonis also sung in spanish. Maluma began his music career in 2010 while Pitbull began in
2001. Uniquely, both singers perform live for their fans and neither of them are retired yet.
Although Maluma started out at a much later period than Pitbull, he still has the same tone as
Pitbull does in his songs. Maluma and Pitbull can each carry out beautiful vocal sounds and
harmonize to music wonderfully. Correspondingly, they are extremely professional singers. For
example, Maluma sings with a lot of low yet powerful vocals while Pitbull sings with medium to
high pitched vocals. In general, the better they sound to their audience, the more they will rise to
fame. Another key point is that they both feature other artists in some of their songs. Maluma and
Pitbull can influence people to learn more about their culture, learn about their musical influence,
and learn about their albums and visit them live in concert to experience an amazing show.

Abstract
The goal of this paper is to make people aware of the excessive forms of control measures which
California control laws enforce. The laws need to be changed to loosen the burden on anyone
Californian who desire to legally purchase a gun for protection. Buyers are prejudged as potential
problems to the community rather than solely on their legal record, merit of good intentions, and
right for self preservation. Law abiding California citizen will continue to be treated as convicted
felons and other people with violent past.
Thesis
California gun control laws are not focus on the overall wellbeing of the public. This current law
encourage the people who are commenting crimes. Most legal buyers are prejudged as a potential
threat; prior to purchasing a gun, rather than on their proper paperwork and qualifications. During
this process criminals are still obtaining weapons illegally and using them. The laws which prevent
personal protection with a gun most be changed in order to control and deter the increasing threat
from predators.
California (CA) gun control laws should be revised to provide every CA law abiding person a fair
opportunity to purchase and possess firearm for protection. Law aiding citizens who desire self
protection are the ones being wronged. Most criminals do not walk in a store and attempt to
purchase a weapon by legally registering for sell and ownership. Many petitions and proposals to

48. What the Two Proposals in Pride and Prejudice Reveal...
Pride and Prejudice is a novel fixated on marriage: throughout, all the action occurs within scenes
devoted to either the talk of marriage or actual proposals. This cannot be expounded more than
within the very first line: It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a
good fortune must be in want of a wife . Here, at the beginning of the novel, a definite, though
somewhat sarcastic, statement introduces the main theme of the novel marriageand, possibly more
importantly, not love.
The stark divide between love and marriage shown right the way through cannot be comprehended
fully by the twenty first century reader: in today s society marriage and love are mutually
exclusive you very rarely get one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the reason both proposals are declined: Elizabeth is of a mind that she will not marry for
social security or for money only love could tempt her into matrimony. The first proposal is from
Mr Collins, a man to whom Elizabeth was not even his first choice; Jane, the eldest and most
beautiful, was his first fancy, but when informed that she had been privately engaged, he swiftly
switches to Elizabeth, who is equally next to Jane in birth and beauty . His introduction to
Elizabeth is not a pleasant one, although he is too ignorant to notice; she finds him a conceited,
pompous, narrow minded, silly man . Her observation is quite correct, and illustrated to the greatest
affect in his proposal speech.
Collins does not seem to possess his own conception of love: he intends to get married merely
because it is the particular advice and recommendation of Lady Catherine de Bourgh, his patron
and first love . He even goes so far as to explain this to Elizabeth within his proposal; Mr Collins
you must marry, Chuse...a gentle woman for my [Lady Catherine s] sake , showing his complete
inaptitude to understand the feelings of others. No mutual acquaintance and love between each
other was needed. Marriage, to Collins, was only a right thing for every clergyman in easy
circumstances . Apart from explaining in his highly verbose manner that he is marrying because he
was told to, he

In Steven Johnson s persuasive essay Watching Tv Makes You Smarter, he defies what our culture

our culture enjoys the simple pleasures so that is what the media companies are feeding us with.
But, Johnson states that based on what the show 24 suggests, the exact opposite is happening: the
culture is getting more cognitively demanding, not less (1). The growing interest of TV programs
with complex mental faculties involves three primary elements: multiple threading, flashing arrows
and social networks (2). Multi threading in the media world began in 1981 with the arrival of the

50. Stylistics By Robert Frost
STYLISTIC ANALYSIS IN POEM ENTITLED
STOPPING BY WOODS ON A SNOWY EVENING
BY ROBERT
I. Introduction
The word stylistics is derived from style. Stylistics is a branch of Linguistics which deals
with different styles. It refers to the study of appropriate use of words or language in a sentence
or writing. Widdowson (1975, p 3) defines stylistics as the study of literary discourse from a
linguistic orientation‖. He added by saying that stylistics is the link between literary criticism and
linguistics. And has (as yet at least) no independent branch of its own. He also says that stylistics
involves both literary criticism and linguistics, as its morphological construction suggests: the

The writer #39;s style

Robert Frost in his poem is being observed in this study.
Materials and Methods
I.1 Materials
The material was taken in Robert Frost s poem entitled Stopping by Woods on a Snowy
Evening . Robert Frost (1874 1964) Robert Frost, an American poet, was born in San Francisco,
California. He is a well known modern poet. He is generally regarded as a poet, teacher, and a
man of wisdom. He had a profound knowledge of literature, history, science and philosophy.
Frost is a philosophical poet from the start.
51. His aim was not writing poems for charming rustic but philosophical anxiety, stoical sadness
which were obvious in his later work. Philosophical poetry deals with questions about life, death
and man #39;s destiny in the universe. Frost also raises such questions though his answers are vague
and often equivocal (Khan, Raffique and Saddique, 2014). quot;Stopping by Woods on a Snowy

52. Mitchell And Trenchard s Influence On The Development Of...
National security requirements exercised the most significant influence on the development of
airpower in Europe and the United States before the Second World War (WWII), because nations
on both sides of the Ocean had to cope with the multifaceted disastrous results of World War I
(WWI) and airpower seemed to be the answer for future wars. Primarily, understanding the context
and consequences of WWI is vital to apprehend airpower theorist like Douhet, Mitchell and
Trenchard and their revolutionary thoughts on airpower. The development of aircraft in the at the
beginning of the twentieth century challenged not only military leadership but national security of
modern states. The basic question was: How will aerial bombing of enemy territory fit... Show more

He was mainly influenced by the ideas of airpower from the Italian General Douhet. Likewise, he
postulated the potency of airpower and considered as the most decisive element in future wars.
Further, he argued, that airpower would make Army and Naval forces almost superfluous. The
United States, other than Great Britain, had a different perspective of its geopolitical situation.
Because of the two Oceans on either side of their country, felt they could afford to be more
complacent about developments in aviation. Although General Mitchell was a strong proponent for
strategic bombing American airmen had a more distant perspective on bomber aircraft and the use
in future wars. But, both, British and American airpower theorist believed that bombers are an
offensive weapon. According to the American national security guideline bomber aircraft,
especially shortly after WWI, would be employed as a defensive weapon. Mitchell argued, that
airpower, by making wars shorter, would offer a way around the stalemate and slaughter seen in the
Great war. This clearly underpins how Mitchell visualized and enforced national security
requirements. Similar to the British reaction to the rise of Nazi Germany during the mid 1930s,
Congress endorsed increasing expenditures for the US Army Air Corps: From 30 million in 1935
to over 83 million in 1939. Additionally, key actors

53. Cultural Diversity In The Film And Television Industry
In addition to considering myself a champion of the supporting cast of the films and shows I
regularly watch, I also do appreciate and value diversity within the film and television industry.
While I may not voice my concerns publicly about the traditional lack of diversity within the
industry, I regard this issue as one amongst a whole host of others that are vital to the ongoing
success of this business. For whatever reason, I tend to have a heart for Asians within the
industry who have exceptional talent and deserve to be recognized. In the case of Nelson Wong, I
have noticed his work for several years now, so reaching out and asking him a few questions about
his career is an action that matches perfectly not only with my own beliefs and value system, but
certainly with the Hallmark network as well. Although the Christmas movies are past, I am honored
to be able to share the career and thoughts of this astounding actorand benevolent human being.

54. Being A Man In The Wonderer And Beowulf

English 2322.102

To Be or Not To Be .. a Man
Being a man during the medieval period meant a lot more than being a man in the twenty first
century. There were certain expectations, and above all, different aspects when it came down to
what being a man was. Some things that are very evident are kinship, brotherhood, male to male
relationships, and bonding. While reading The Wonderer and Beowulf, it is very easy to pick out
spots where these different aspects are shown. So, how exactly do we know how these acts are
being portrayed?
While reading Beowulf, right off the back the reader can get a sense of what being a man means.
There is a bond of unity from the very beginning. Brotherhood and kinship go hand in hand
because even though Beowulf did not need any help from the men who traveled with him, they all
stood by him and were there for moral support. The relationships between men seemed like they
were a lot more important, than those with women. Not only are women rarely mentioned during
this time, but when they were, they were often portrayed as damsels in distress. This is where
kinship and brotherhood go hand in hand. Just because these men were not of the same bloodline,
that did not make them any less of a family. There was always constant support, especially for
Beowulf, and no one ever really went against each other.
The bonding between men can be seen in two different ways in Beowulf. One way it can be seen
is the fact

The European Union and the United Kingdom have a long history. Winston Churchill himself is
credited with bringing about the idea for the EU as a United State of Europe . Many in the U.K
are now starting to feel that this may not be the best alliance the U.K could be in. The EU is seen
by many Brits as being too much oversight for too little gains. The U.K does not even identify as
majorly European, and therefore believe they should not have the oversight of the EU. The United
Kingdomleaving the EU should be seen as a major issue, and may be a reality by the end of the
decade. If this were to happen it would have major geopolitical effects on the EU as a whole. The
idea of the U.K not being wholly European is nothing new, the first... Show more content on

This wording only allows for the two possibilities, but Cameron would prefer a third option. The
Conservatives want to somehow work out a deal with the EU to allow the U.K to stay as a free
trade partner but not to be bound by EU policy. Germany has heavily opposed a special U.K
status, but is not opposed to the idea of multiple statuses within the EU for members. If the
referendum passes before these reforms are made the U.K will leave the European Union, this leads
most to expect that the U.K would quickly sign free trade agreements with all the other European
nations. Brits currently favor cession with 50% of those polled favoring it, and 36% not
favoring it. The U.K perspective on this is that many people support this, but there is a divide
between the public and the corporate world. The U.K identify closer to countries like Australia,
Canada, and the U.S than they do with the EU. This feeling of being British, not European has
only helped strengthen the argument for cession. The major group not supporting cession is
large corporations, while in the EU It is far easier for them to do business than if they had to deal
with a renegotiated Eurozone. Many Brits do not see the EU to be giving them much benefit, this
is perhaps the primary reason for leaving the EU. The EU costs Britain quite a bit of pounds each
year to maintain relations with them, and many brits say it is time for the U.K
