Acidification of the surface of the water is a major problem in areas of the
northeastern United States, in eastern Canada, and in southern Scandinavia, it also
occurs in other parts of the world as well (Baker Schofield, 1982). The acidification
on the surface of water causes many fish populations to decline in soft water aquatic

attention; particularly, within the therapeutic setting. It was refreshing to see that
finally, within this chapter these topics among other were finally being addressed in
further depth than before. What was particularly striking in this week s readings was
the role of privilege and awareness.
In the article by Hernandez Wolfe and McDowell (2012), the idea to shift the focus
on oppression to a focus on privilege in counseling and psychology is imperative.
After reading the article I find this useful seeing that once this shift can be made,
awareness of privilege and lack of privilege becomes essential to help elicit action for
change. Although it was mentioned that sometimes action is not always achieved, the
awareness piece is becoming increasingly important, especially in counseling
psychology. As mentioned in the article, moving from oppression, focused to
privilege focused reminded me a little of solution focused therapy. Focusing on the
positives and strengths to elicit change. Although privilege is not necessarily a
strength, it is an important concept to focus on. Understanding that, many people

Gay marriage has been in hot debate for a while now. What once was shunned in
almost every culture and society is now creeping into our laws and customs as
normal and even acceptable due to the increase of radicals found in Anglo Saxon
societies such as the US and UK. Fueled by the recent revolutions of women and
interracial groups, homosexuals (a group less than 1 percent of the world s
population), have finally taken a stand. Marriage has been a union of opposite sexes
for nearly 5000 years and now has come into such scrutiny that it has taken on the
attention of the Supreme Court. On April 28th, 2015, the Supreme Court began the
case of Obergefell v. Hodge, the dispute which would settle the legalization of gay
marriage in the entire US. From such a case, the question arises: Should gay

counterintuitive argument that understandings of human are produced through

This paper reports the results of a pilot study of polybrominated flame retardents in
household dust collected for a small sample of households in Plymouth. It finds
significant levels of pentaBDE especially in bedrooms. The most likely cause is the
continued use of pentaBDE within polyurethane foam in mattresses and other
bedroom furniture, in spite of the ban by the European Court of Justice in 2004.
Further work is called for in order to examine whether this reflects the widespread
continued use of mattresses and furniture bought before 2004. A larger sample size is

On August 9, 2014, a young, unarmed, 18 year old, black man named Michael
Brown was shot to death six times by 28 year old, white police officer Darren Wilson
in Ferguson, Missouri, a town just outside of St. Louis, Missouri. Some say Officer
Wilson was protecting his life, I call it police brutality. The brutality has led to an
uproar of all day protesting and looting, and cops and even the National Guard are
working double time to keep everything under control. There are many things that
led up to the shooting. At 11:54 am on August 9, 2014, Michael Brown and his
friend Dorian Johnson were recorded on a convenience store security camera
leaving the store with a $48.00 box of Swisher Sweet Cigars. At that time, a dispatch
went out over police radio reporting the crime, a strong armed robbery (Freivogal).
According to Grandstrandlaw.com, a strong armed robbery ... occurs when there is
no deadly weapon used during the robbery (Frederick). With this in mind, we cannot
assume that Michael Brown had a gun. We can also not say that he may have had a
gun, but just decided to not show it to the convenience store clerk in order to
intimidate him or her during the robbery. When Brown and Johnson left the store,
they had a ten minute walk to get back to where they lived. When they were walking
