market. 2. Bond Market
A market place where buyers and sellers are engaged in the exchange of debt securities, usually in
the form of bonds is called a bond market. A bond is a contract signed by both the parties where
one party promises to return money with interest at fixed intervals. 3. Foreign Exchange Market In
such type of market, parties are involved in trading of currency. In a foreign exchange market (also
called currency market), one party exchanges one country s currency with equivalent quantity of
another currency. 4. Predictive Markets

Christopher Reeve s My Hero
Christopher Reeve once said, A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere
and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. A person doesn t have to wear a cape to be a hero.
They can be people just like you and I. We have people in our everyday lives who are our heroes.
Many times, our heroes are our loved ones; the ones we look up to. My herois someone very special
to me. He has been there since day one and I wouldn t want to go a day without him by my side. As
cheesy as it might sound, my hero is my boyfriend, Max. Yes, he s my hero. It s not just because he
s my boyfriend; it s because he truly is my hero. Max so selflessly gives up his time and is always
willing to be there for me even when he is struggling himself.

Summary Of Italo CalvinoThe Adventure Of A Skier
As time passes, the world moves in a faster pace than ever, creating more chaos and instability
than ever for the individual. Everything, from sports to academics to achievements became a
race, and people start to lose themselves and their identities in this competitive world. Society is
now run by technology, where everything connects to each other. This new lifestyle can hinder
people from stepping out of society s bubble to have true self discovery. In this fast paced world,
people are stripped from the opportunity to step back and live a simplistic lifestyle, and are usually
condemned by many. Only recently, individuals have discovered this missing piece of inner peace
within themselves and activities such as yoga and fasting drastically increased, especially within
the millennial population. Also, terms about serenity from different religions such as yin yang, Om,
and Atman have popularized into a modern day fads and fashions. In his short story, The Adventure
of a Skier, Italo Calvinouses simplistic, repetitive diction to create a methodical tone that
ultimately suggests that isolation and self determination can help one find inner tranquility in
this world of chaos. The modern day lifestyle has a sense of hastiness of it that bears a burden to
the people. Calvino uses the contrasting ideas of heaviness and hastens to lightness. In the
beginning of this narrative, Calvino describes the disorder and impetuosity of something as
simple as standing in a line. That flurry of small disjointed gestures coursed through the line and
became frenzied at the front, gives the largest importance to the smallest details to increase the
disorder of this scene (Calvino, 1). The narrator uses words such as flurry, disjointed, and
frenzied to emphasize on the feeling of disarray (Calvino, 1). The simplistic diction ironically
amplifies the chaos. From the beginning to the end of this short story, the leading character is
referred as sky blue girl, without any other identity (Calvino, 1). She is always described to be
graceful in a condensed way. All her movements were as simple as possible and perfectly suited to
her person; she never exaggerated by a centimeter, never showed a hint of agitation or

Tragic Heroism in Shakespeare s Antony And Cleopatra Essay
In the tragedy Antony and Cleopatra , Shakespeare presents our protagonist Mark Antony as a
tragic hero. He does this by using a number of dramatically effective methods, including language,
staging techniques and structure. Aristotle defines a tragic hero as a character of noble stature
who has a tragic flaw (usually hubris which is over confidence/arrogance) and suffers a downfall
that is partially their fault but also due to factors beyond their control. The downfall they suffer
exceeds the crime but the tragic hero gains some sort of self awareness.
Before the audience meets Antony, Shakespeare presents us with two soldiers discussing Antony s
current debauched life. This is dramatically effective staging because they are acting ... Show more

Another soldier calls him the god of Jupiter which elevates Antony s status to that of a great
leader, because Jupiter was the leader amongst all the other gods. Philo compares him to Mars,
the god of war, which shows elevates his stature to be one of equal rank with a god. Caesar
recalls Antony s excellent soldiership and virtus qualities. Virtus was the Roman ideal of male
force and energy: military prowess coupled with devotion to one s honour and fame. Antony had
to drink/the stale of horses and eat strange flesh and the bark of trees in order to stay alive and he
was borne so like a soldier that thy cheek...lanked not. These striking images paint an unfathomable
scene of heroic endurance which the audience respects and admires.
The audience is privy to a private conversation in Caesar s home between Caesar and Lepidus,
who were the other two thirds of the triple pillar of the world the triumvirate. The triumvirate were
a powerful political and military force; they ruled the Roman Empire after the murder of Julius
Caesar. During this conversation, they discuss Antony s debauched life and his former greatness
in Caesar s home where Caesar feels free to express his opinions honestly and he declares that
Antony is a man who is abstract of all faults and someone who would give a kingdom for mirth.
This shows us how far he has fallen in Caesar s eyes as his tone would be scathing and I imagine
he would be pacing as he ranted about Antony

wanted to go back to his hometown and live with his parents and when he got a transfer to Delhi
he didn t waste a single moment in saying yes to the new project and heading towards Delhi.
Many of his friends were also moving out from Bangalore at the same time which only made his
decision easier. He felt that Caremark offered better career prospects, as it was a new project and

Sudhir rarely held an individual member of his team responsible if the team as a whole failed to
deliver for him the responsibility for any failure was collective. Ali remembered telling his
colleagues at Aviva that the ideal boss would be someone who did not interfere with his/her
subordinate s work. Ali wanted to believe that Ashish too was the non interfering type. If that
was the case, surely his non interference would only help Ali to grow. In Ali s first week at work,
he found the atmosphere at the office a bit dull. However, he was quite excited. The team had
been assigned a new project and was facing a few glitches with the new software. He thought
about the problem till late in the night and had come up with several possible solutions. Ali could
not wait to discuss them with the team and Ashish. Ali smiled to himself when he thought of how
Ashish would react when he told him that he had come up with several possible solutions to the
problem. He was sure he would be happy with him having put in so much effort into the project,
right from day one. Ali was daydreaming about all the praise that he was going to get when
Ashish walked into the office. Ali waited for him to go into his workplace, and after five minutes,
called him up, asking to see him. He asked Ali to come in after ten minutes. When Ali went in,

Human Geography In The Film A Bite Of China
In 2014, a Chinese documentary television series named A bite of China was popular in the world.
Chinese has been advocating food is the paramount necessity of the people , and create a splendid
food culture during the thousands of years. The seven episode documentary series not only shows
delicious Chinese food but only Chinese culture. Audiences could learn the migrate history of
Chinese people, current situation of education and economics growth in China through foods. I find
some concepts about human geography in the documentary.
During the class, we talked about the categories of the world system, and China belongs to Semi
Periphery due to the large land mass. Similarly, a country also has the categories, some cities are

As a country with huge population, population migration in China is a very common phenomenon.
The factors impacting population distribution we learned in class also showed in the
documentaries. In the developing countries like China, most people leave their hometown and
move to elsewhere is always for resource availability and political and economic situation. Young
people swarm into big cities to look for a better work or education opportunities. The national
college entrance examination in China is a crucial turning point for the fortune for millions of
young people. A lot of family with high school students move to bigger cities and let teenagers
study in a high school with higher education level in order to expect teenagers have better
performance in the exam. The tight learning schedule and precious breaking time force parents who
can afford it choose to accompany their children studying at school. Chinese parents devote their
time and energy to the next generation, they are willing to leave hometown and leave the situation
they are familiar with to strive for a better environment for their children. And I think this is a
special connection with parents and their children in

Eurocentric Misconceptions Against Eurocentrism
Eurocentric attitudes constantly place itself at the forefront of our understandings of the world.
Western civilization examines dance within the binary of the opposite. As a consequence, non
European artists and/or marginalized forms of dance experience great difficulty in merely existing
within the Eurocentric agenda. African danceserves as just one example of a form of dance that
struggles to find a position on the world stage. In this paper, I engage in an exploration of the

Reflection On Design And Design
There is a reoccurring theme I took from all the readings in this course, and that is that there is
more to engineering than just designing. You have to look at every project you have from all
perspectives, and it is very important for you to take all things into account. I chose this Systems
analysis diagram because it was a good way for me to group certain main ideas into three main
categories of thought. Thinking ethically, thinking before you act, and viewing your projects as a
two way street are all very important when working on in the engineeringfield.
Thinking ethically has been widely discussed in this course. There are many conceptions of what
defines ethics, but I think ultimately it means the greater good for all. In Catalano s Engineering
Ethics: Peace, Justice, and the Earth, he states that in order to be ethical, you must think
Morally Deep. He writes, A living being is best thought of not as a thing of some sort, but as a
living system, an ongoing life process. (Catalano, 2006). I have referenced this many times this
semester because I think it is a crucial to expanding your idea of all things to be considered. With
a morally deep approach, it forces you to consider all living beings which are ongoing life
processes not just breathing organisms. By other life processes it means things in the environment
like trees. While trees may not be breathing, they still have their own lifespan and therefore are a
life process. Defining all the other aspects

It predominantly addresses the high margin, high quality segment of the market, with little

post sales and technical service. This niche position has allowed it to maintain an ROE almost twice
as high as its nearest competitor.

Frye has not communicated in details and with transparency why the change as set in the plan
action was needed. Indeed, as Quaker s return on equity was twice as high as that of its nearest
competitor, since the 20 years, the need of change could not been interpreted as being obvious for
everyone. Therefore, this explains why regarding her memo addressing briefly the need of change
the DSM received (...) several complaints from his salespeople about its arbitrary nature.
d. She did not grasp the need to compensate being an outsider

managers had to spend a year working in the Head Quarter office to better understand the company
s culture, facilities, organization, and its practices. This policy has been introduced because most
transactions across organizational lines were conducted through personal contacts and relationships.
Frye was aware of this policy and the existence of use of informal communication channels.
However, she did not perceive that using phone calls, emails or memo where not suffisant to build
assistance and communication on her project.

Seated Statue Of Nehy Analysis
The Seated Statue of Nehy is a white limestone Egyptian sculpture from the New Kingdom
period dating back to 1250 1200 BCE with the measurements of 51 15/16 x 17 3/4 x 34 9/16
inches. The sculpture s accession number is 22.106. It was discovered in the Memphite
necropolis of Saqqara and was acquired by Henry Walters in 1924 (Egyptian Art New Kingdom

sculpture. It is typical of Egyptian sculpture to have an upright and stiff posture and that is
exactly how Nehy is portrayed. She is depicted like she would be in everyday life, but in an

Puritan Beliefs In The Salem Witch Trials
Soon prisons were filled with more than 150 men and women from towns surrounding Salem. Their
names had been cried out by tormented young girls as the cause of their pain. All would await trial
for a crime punishable by death in 17th century New England, the practice of witchcraft. This
excerpt from an article about the Salem Witch Trials embodies the concept of punishment which the
Puritans embraced. As shown, Puritans applied ideals of punishment and discipline to prevent
sinful behavior, which proves to beneficial in controlling such events. Many individuals
increasingly view Puritandoctrines in a negative light. However, these morals actually keep
communities well maintained and religiously aware of sin and its consequences. Puritan morals are
beneficial to societies because they encourage the avoidance of unholy activities, increased self
control, and moderation of behavior.
To begin with, Puritan communities largely condemned individuals for minor sins which usually
are not considered worthy of extreme punishment, such as excessive drinking. During the Industrial
Revolution in the colonial time period, the majority of male factory workers resorted to heavy
drinking to distract from the daily hardships and struggles which were prominent at the time. As a
result, alcohol was banned from the communities, leading to a major decrease in consumption.
Similarly, Puritans who condemned the ingestion of alcoholic beverages as immoral kept their
towns safe from

Analysis Of Walden By Henry David Thoreau
Walden, a series of 18 essays by Henry David Thoreau published in 1854, is a record of Thoreau s
experiment in simple living on the northern shore of Walden Pond, Massachusetts. Industrial
progress is a theme that Thoreau experiences while at Walden Pond. Even though Thoreau makes
some elaborate claims as to why industrial progress is destructive, the exact opposite is true; as
such advancement does much to benefit the relationships, economy and safety of any society.
Thoreau s overall philosophy condemns industrial progress. Thoreau believed that simplicity is
good for the soul and material possessions and money can become one s god. (www.walden.org)

Thoreau is buried near the graves of his friends Hawthorne, Alcott, Emerson and Channing. Ralph
Waldo Emerson wrote in his eulogy; The country knows not yet, or in the least part, how great a
son it has lost...His soul was made for the noblest society; he had in a short life exhausted the
capabilities of this world; wherever there is knowledge, wherever there is virtue, wherever there
is beauty, he will find a home. (Library of Harvard University) Thoreau, fascinated by technology,
saw a series of inventions that would radically change the world. In the mid nineteenth century he
saw the invention of the power loom, railroad and the telegraph, the industrial revolution. In
Thoreau s view, technology provoked an excitement that was counterproductive because it served
as a distraction from the important questions of life. Perhaps we are led oftener by the love of
novelty, and a regard for the opinions of men, in procuring it, than by a true utility. (Walden, 21).
Our inventions are wont to be pretty toys, which distracted our attention from serious things. They
are but improved means to an unimproved end, an end which it was already but too easy to arrive
at; as railroads lead to Boston or New York. We are in great haste to construct a magnetic telegraph
from Maine to Texas; but Maine and Texas; it may be, have nothing important to communicate.

Emmett Till Essay
Emmett till was a fourteen year old African American boy who lived in Chicago. He was a fairly
normal kid who was down visiting his family when he was brutally murdered for just flirting with
a white girl. He was too young to understand what he was doing. He was just doing it as a joke for
his cousins, which he soon figured out was life threatening. This act of violence is what started the

shot in the head. They protested, but there was nothing they could do.

Mahatma Gandhi Was The Father Of The Independence Movement
Mohandas Gandhi is considered the father of the Indian independence movement. When Gandhi
was 23 years old, he left his family behind and went to South Africa, arriving in British governed
Natal in May 1893. Gandhi arrived there and was hoping to earn a little bit of money and to
learn more about law; instead, he went from a very quiet and shy man to a resilient and potent
leader against discrimination. This all started when he took a business trip after he arrived in
South Africa. He boarded the first train of his journey at the Pietermartizburg station, railroad
officials told Gandhi that he needed to transfer to the third class passenger car. Even though he was
holding first class passenger tickets and refused to move, a policeman came and threw him off the
train. He also faced other challenges on his trip. He found out that this is a common problem with
the Indian community. After his experience, he decided to not let these injustices continue, and he
was going to fight to change these discriminatory practices. Gandhi spent the next twenty years
fight for Indian right in South Africa. During the first three years, Gandhi learned more about
Indian grievances, studied the law, wrote letters to officials, and organized petitions. On May 22,
1894, Gandhi established the Natal Indian Congress (NIC). Although the NIC began as an
organization for wealthy Indians, Gandhi worked diligently to expand its membership to all classes
and castes. Gandhi became well known for his

Billy Wilder Essay
4/13/12
Paper #3: Library Research
Billy Wilder
Billy Wilder s work today remains masterful and memorable. From his skilled screenwriting to his
directing, Wilder holds a key position in cinema history. Wilder s stylistic and thematic elements
are recognizable and give off a complex reflection of his American and European cultural
influences. I think that Billy Wilder should be considered an auteur even if he is not already
considered one, for his personal film style and the mere fact that his cynical vision allowed him to
create many admirable films across a number of genre boundaries throughout his career. However,
film critics tend to disagree and believe that Wilder was too cynical, while also complaining about
the lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sarris also argues that an auteur is a director whose films are formalistic. I think auteurism has
less to do with form and is further based off of a director s symbolic narrative structure. Wilder
uses a lot of symbolic narrative structure in his films and they played a huge role in American
pop culture. This is what NoГ«l Carroll, Professor of the Philosophy of Art at the University of
Wisconsin Madison, had to say about Sarris s formalistic theory on auteurism, In film studies, the
examination of the style or form of the individual film is usually subordinated to frameworks that
conceptualize the style or form of the individual film as exemplary of something else, usually the
personal style of a director, or a period style, or the style of an influential movement or school.
(Carroll, pg. 1).
Billy Wilder s film not only combine social realism, crime, moral degeneracy and humor; but they
represent cultural, political and personal identity through the characters and narratives he
constructs. Wilder directed a number of genre films ranging from comedy, film noir, romance,
drama, adventure and even fantasy. These different genre aspects of narrative and character are
essential to analyzing or critiquing Wilder s body of work and his significance as an auteur.
According to NoГ«l Simsolo, a famous French author, Wilder s thematic approach looks at the
world with a cynical eye, but... knows how to make people laugh.

He walks onto the next room. Doug approaches Morris s room, he glances in.
INT. MORRIS S PRIVATE ROOM DAY
Unable to recognize Morris, Doug is just about to walk to the next room. When out of the corner of
his eye, Morris stares at Doug. They lock eyes. Doug is completely appalled by Morris s
appearance, he thinks its another patient. Not realizing it is his friend.
He covers his mouth in disgust, taking a step backwards. Out of the previous patients, Morris is
in the worst condition. It looks as if Morris is going to die any second judging by the way he
looks, and how many machines are hooked up to him.

Doug knocks his knuckles onto the nurses station which is directly in front of Morris s room.
Later. We see a Nurse point towards Morris s room.
DOUG
No that s not him, I m looking for my friend Morris Goodman.
Doug pulls a picture out from his pants pocket of him and Morris (the photo that was on Morris s
desk). He points to Morris in the photograph. The Nurse disagrees with Doug and hastily points
straight ahead at Morris laying in bed.
Doug covers his mouth. His eyes immediately fill up with tears.

The vase of flowers are on Morris s bedside table. Doug stares at Morris completely speechless and

Individualism In America
When asked the question, How is Individualism as a value in the United States compared to other
democracies. one can produce many answers. But, the most logical reason by far is due to the
heightened opportunities for Americans to better themselves as opposed to other democracies.
In Figure 1.3, the value of individualism in America versus foreign democracies is statistically, and
very clearly, depicted in its favor. One reason being is that individualism is highly dependant on the
government giving the people the tools needed to achieve on their own, and that everyone should
be given the same opportunity to achieve success. America was built on opportunity, and this has
been proven time and time again throughout history. Rather it be by supporting capitalism and free
enterprise, or allowing both natives and immigrants to obtain an ... Show more content on

Upon granting citizenship to all persons in the United states, the government created an
environment in which anyone can be a part of something greater. No longer would immigrants
and slaves be treated of lower value, or given less. This was an immense step in allowing
workers to work for themselves, while at the same time also bettering the country as a whole due
to greater overall patriotism and employment rates. Any worker who is given fair opportunity,
free land, and rights far greater than their old country will be more than willing to go to war for
said country. This creates a strong military, a strong sense of nationality, and another reason for
Americans to support and value individualism. Without the governments constant efforts to direct
power away from the government and into its peoples hands, i doubt our country would be as
strong and individually based as it would today. Its no wonder than Americans are so proud of
their individually acquired successes in life, as its been done in history many times before

The Greenhouse Effect And Global Warming
The greenhouse effect and global warming are issues that are talked about by geologists all the
time. The greenhouse effect is a natural process that keeps the earth at temperatures that are
livable. Energy from the sun warms the earth when its heat rays are absorbed by greenhouse
gasses and become trapped in the atmosphere. Some of the most common greenhouse gasses are
water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane. If there were no greenhouse gasses, very few rays
would be absorbed and the earthwould be extremely cold. When too many rays are absorbed, the
earth s atmosphere starts to warm, which leads to global warming. Global warming can lead to
many problems that affect the environment in which we live.
In order to talk about global ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Methane in the atmosphere is generated by biological activity related to rice cultivation, leaks
in domestic and industrial gas lines, and the digestive process of domestic livestock, especially
cattle. An environmental effect of global warming is the fact that higher temperatures will lead
to a change in the water cycle. Some places may experience more rain. Warmer temperatures will
cause a greater amount of evaporation from lakes, rivers, and oceans. In some areas this could
be good, and in others it could be considered bad. In northern regions of the United States, an
increase in the temperature and amount of rain could actually extend the growing season of
crops. This would in turn mean more money for farmers in the northern region. It could also hurt
some farmers. Too much rain is bad for some crops. Certain areas will actually get less rain, which
would lead to more droughts and have a negative impact on crops. Warm and wet weather is
usually a factor that promotes tropical storms. Global warming would lead to tropical storms
appearing with greater frequency. More rain will also force plant life to adjust. Forests and plant life
migrate naturally, but scientists say that global warming would cause them to migrate at a much
faster rate. If the climate changes the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says, some forest
species in North America will shift by as much as 300 miles to the north

Effect Of The Sex Industry On Women
Sex work. It sounds harmless enough, attempting to make the sale and purchase of women s
bodies as legitimate as any job. Sex work, we are told, represents a feminist response to the
masculine hold on the traditional job market. We are further led to believe that it is empowering,
that these women are taking control of their sexuality and using it for their own purposes, turning
the tables on the patriarchy. The problem with this mindset, however, is that it is not based in
reality. The term sex work is meant to make exploitation of women s bodies through their
commercialization seem natural. For the purposes of this discussion, it should be noted that sex
work covers a wide range of different practices. Most notably, it covers prostitutionand the sale of
sex, but it also extends to the strip club industry and the porn industry, as all three of these feed off
of each other and emerge from the same broken system. The effects of the sex industryon women,
however, differs across racial and class boundaries, especially in prostitution, where women of
different ethnic backgrounds are often treated as commodities, to attracts certain consumers
interests for exotic tastes. Although the exploitation of women through sex work takes different
forms for women of different backgrounds, the sex industry as a whole is a fundamentally harmful
institution that profits from the commercialization and objectification of women and women s
bodies.

The Painted Bird By Jerzy Kosinsky
[A]nd only God, omnipotent indeed, knew they were mammals of a different breed
Mayakovsky. The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinsky is a horrific tale of heinous acts against
humanity and people in the time of World War II. The tales of humans being eating by rats, and
women being rapes, and men having their eyes gauged out are enough to make any person
cringe. All of these events are seen through the eyes of a six year old unnamed boy as he travels
and tries to survive the rugged and ever changing landscape of Eastern Europe during World War
II. The horrific events of the holocaust are represented by the use of animal imagery that allows
the reader to navigate the relationships between the wrong doers and the victims. When we first
encounter the boy in the novel he is being sent away by his parents to a village far away from the
war so that he will be able to survive. They thought that if he was not with him that he would
have a better chance of survival. The boy in not welcome in the villages of Eastern Europe, he is
described as being olive skinned, dark haired, and black eyed. (Kosinsky 3). The description of
the boy differs from the people in the villages. Because the people in the villages are of Arian
descent, having blonde hair and blue eyes, they consider the boy a Gypsy or a Jewish stray. They
often treated him like the scum of the Earth, and they would subject all kinds of physical and
mental abuse. The villages he stayed in had no schools or hospitals. The

Benefits Of Artificial Inseminating A Cow
Artificial insemination is a method of reproduction that allows beef producers to use bulls that
have superior genetics at an affordable price. Many producers of purebred and commercial beef
cattle profitably use artificial insemination in their cow herds and utilize artificial insemination to
control traits such as calving ease, milk production, and feed efficiency. Take my family for
example; every year we sync our show heifers estrus cycles together and artificially inseminate
them. Artificial inseminationallows us to pick sound, purebred bulls with low birth weights,

A CIDR is a T shaped device with flexible wings that move to form a rod to insert into the vagina,
and a tail is attached to make removal as easy as possible. The CIDR s nylon spine is covered
with a progesterone embedded silicone skin. The CIDR is inserted for seven days, which causes
the female s blood progesterone levels to rise rapidly, with maximum concentrations reached
within an hour of insertion. Progesterone levels are maintained at a constant level during the
following week. When the CIDR is removed, progesterone concentrations rapidly decrease.
Caution should be taken when handling CIDRs; always wear gloves to prevent exposure to
progesterone and the introduction of contaminants into the vaginas of other cows. The CIDR s
greatest advantage is to facilitate fixed time artificial insemination, where no estrus detection is
necessary. The protocol is simple, but there are some differences in timing for mature cows and
young heifers. For all females, the CIDR is inserted and a GnRH vaccine, such as Cystorelin or
Factrel, is injected at the same time. Seven days later, the CIDR is removed and the cow receives
a prostaglandin F2 injection, such as Lutalyse. In mature cows, artificial insemination should occur

Raymond s Run Character Essay In the story Raymond s Run by Toni Cade Bambara, Squeaky,
the protagonist, is a young girl who is in charge of taking care of her handicapped brother,
Raymond. She will protect him and take charge of him if she senses danger. Squeaky proves to a
memorable character as I read the story. She has proven to be memorable because she is confident,
protective, and mostly because she is nonconformist.
The first reason why Squeaky is a memorable character is because she is a confident character. For

got anything to say to my brother you say it so me. Thus we can say that squeaky is protective

drama and not let the girls get to him. MY second piece of evidence to show squeaky is
protective is when she is at the May Day races and put Raymond into a little swing even though
it is a tight squeeze . This evidence shows squeaky s protective side because she wants to put
Raymond somewhere safe where he is out of anyone s way and where she knows is a safe place
fro Raymond. My last piece of evidence to show squeaky is protective is when she says, Next
word outta anybody and i ll be there mother too. This shows squeaky is protective because when
someone was being rude or acting mean she took charge and protected Raymond from talking to
them and she stands up and talks when she feels something is wrong and won t go down without
fighting for what she knows and believes in. This evidence proves that squeaky is a memorable

1044). The author points out that women s body are objectified and with dress codes it
enhances the spotlight on parts of the females that would typically not be considered sexual
shoulders. It has been said over and over again that the way these girls are dressing is a cause for
a distraction for the male students (Zhou, 2015, para.11). In a way schools are allowing students
to continue this behavior for their future, making judgements on females based on what they are
wearing. This is where rape culture comes into play. Dress codes serve to normalize rape culture,
as women are pushed to feel ashamed of their body and what they show, as innocence as it may
seem. Sarah Gordon, a Girl Up Teen advisor, says rape culture, a building block of the patriarchy,
says that men have the license to do almost anything they want, that women are temptresses, and
that if a woman is a victim to a man s assault/harassment/rape, it is her fault (2016, para. 16).
Putting dress codes into play allow to continue the belief that women and girls are sexual objects
and should be defined by that. Putting less stress on what a woman is wearing will allow stronger,
happier women.

The As A World Of Perfection And Reality
Art is a collection of artworks that reflects a message for the audience to interpret. Each piece of
artwork is expressed in different forms that communicate an individual s thoughts and emotions to
another person. Every artist has their own individual style which makes them different from the
rest. Although artists have similar styles, viewers have their own interpretation when they are
analyzing a piece of art in depth. Philosophers claim the uniqueness of art comes from all the
creative ideas in one s mind. Nietzsche believes the appearance of objects matters more than reality
of objects but Dewey would disagree. Friedrich Nietzscheintroduces the art world of dreams and
reality. These are two different qualities that represents Apollonian and Dionysus art. According
to Nietzsche, he describes dreams as a world of perfection and reality as a world of imperfection.
In the excerpt The Birth of Tragedy, he writes, In our dreams we delight in the immediate
understanding of figures; all forms speak to us; there is nothing unimportant or superfluous
(Nietzsche 163). By dreaming, it is possible to fantasize about your desires positively. On the
other hand, reality forces you to become aware of your true thoughts and how you are currently
living your life. The author clearly explains the reality in which we live and have our being is also

Maturity In Tom Sawyer
Throughout multiple exciting adventures and dangerous explorations in the novel The Adventures
of Tom Sawyer , we see Tom Sawyer mature. He matures through the love of Aunt Polly, Becky,
Huck and other characters in the novel. In his search for treasure, Tom learns about personal
accountability. Even in everyday life, we watch him develop from a boyinto an adult. From a selfish
young, mischievous lad, Tom becomes a sincere, kind and responsible young man.
Before we continue, we should discuss what maturity is. According to Wikipedia, the definition of
maturity is a psychological term used to indicate that a person responds to the circumstances or
environment in an appropriate and adaptive manner. This response is generally learned rather than
instinctual, and is not determined by one s age. Maturity also encompasses awareness of the correct
time and place to behave, knowing when to act with appropriate emotion for the situation. Maturity
incorporates personal accountability, meaning you take ownership of situations you are involved
in. By following one s conscience, you are taking personal accountability.
During the adventures of Huck and Tom s treasure hunting, the two came across the antagonist,
Injun Joe. Earlier, Huck and Tom witnessed Injun Joe murder a doctor and put the blame on an
innocent man. The two juvenile boys had made a vow that neither of them would tell anyone since
they were scared that Injun Joe would come after them. This shows fear that most people would
experience in this situation. Knowing that an innocent man will be punished for an act he did not
commit, Tom s conscience convinced him to testify against Injun Joe, freeing a guiltless man.
Critics... view incidents such as Tom s encounters with Injun Joe...as confrontations between
innocence and evil which initiate Tom into the world of adult responsibilities and consequences.
Near the beginning of the book, Tom falls in love with a beautiful young girl, Becky. The
relationship that Tom and Becky shared is very childish and immature. When Tom mentions his
past girlfriend, Becky gets super emotional and upset because she thinks Tom is still in love with
her. Tom also claims that he will marry Betty even though

Of The Irresoubleness Of Diamonds, By Monica Ferrell
Grammar consists of a wide array of concepts, meanings, and different classes of words. It can be
defined as a linguistic system that exists in the mind of a speaker of a language, a written
description of a language, and an abstract notation of an ideal set of rules (of correct or proper
grammar) which can be encoded in a handbook (Studies in English Grammar Handbook, pg.7).
Monica Ferrell s, Of the Irresoubleness of Diamonds , Harmless, As Recalled by a Fairy Tale ,
Gerburt des Monicakinds , and Beautiful Funeral each employ four different grammatical issues
one of them being the known new contract. By incorporating these grammatical issues into her
work, Ferrell intends to develop a clear and sharp image to ignite the imagination of her readers.
The poems Of the Irresoubleness of Diamonds , Harmless, As Recalled by a Fairy Tale , Gerburt
des Monicakinds and Beautiful Funeral were written by poet and novelist Monica Ferrell.
Monica Ferrell was born in New Dehli. She earned her BA from Harvard University and MFA
from Columbia University (Poetry Foundation). Ferrell discusses the role of uncertainty in her
poems. She states, I m trying to let something that wants to come into being do so poetry as
uncovering, rather than invention or rhetoric, and a form of devotion and service . (Poetry
Foundation). By using several grammar techniques Ferrell paints a bright image for her readers
to ponder upon. Ferrell is an atypical poem and uses a variety of forms to convey her simple and
lyrical tone throughout them. One of the reasons that I chose her poems is because of the strong,
lyrical language she uses to convey the imagery and earnest tone. Monica Ferrell s poem, Of the
irresoubleness of Diamonds uses grammatical concepts such as attributive adjectives. There are
three examples where Ferrell uses attributive adjectives in her poem. One example where Ferrell
uses attributive adjectives is when she describes, Its delicate handle, the pictures painted there (line
3), the word delicate appears before the nounand is modifying it. Through this example Ferrell she
compares her love for someone to a teacup, perhaps implying that it could be the amount of feelings
she has for

Proctor is later found guilty and he is ordered to be taken to jail. With anger, Hale speaks out, I
denounce these proceedings, I quit this court (1151). Hale can no longer take part in a court
system that hangs innocent people. He publicly declares that the court s rulings are wrong
which reveal his frustration and his rejection to the court. Reverend Hale is no longer the same
man who had his faith in the court when he had first arrived in Salem. Over the course of the
play, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Reverend Hale has changed dramatically from the start of
the play to the end. At first, Hale is convinced that he is an expert of witchcraft and the truth is
found in his books. He also comes into Salem putting his faith into the court. As the play goes on,
Hale questions his belief because he realizes that many people are being convicted without definite
evidence. In the end of the play, Hale has no faith in the court. He realizes many people innocent
people have died through the courts rulings and therefore he can not be a part of it. Hale s character

Apsmart s Employee Turnover
Through our investigation, we have discovered the employee turnover rate at APPSmart Inc. is
immensely high in comparison to the industry average. This is an important issue that must be
quickly addressed. Turnover is the termination of an individual s employment with an organization
and can be permanent, temporary, voluntary or involuntary (Dessler Chhinzer, 2016). High
turnover rate at APPSmart can be due to the lack of compensation and benefits provided to the
employees. Employees working in the production plant are paid minimum wage and do not
necessarily receive compensation for overtime work. Therefore, if these employees are presented
with a better offer, they will likely consider leaving. Turnover can increase recruiting and training

Bribery In Beowulf
Clashing swords against hardened scaly skin, dragons, monsters, blood and gore, feast of drunken
celebrations and tales of legendary personal feats these are the ideas that engross our minds when
imagining the Scandinavian Anglo Saxon literature. Yet these classics, as beautifully and
memorable the words flow, have been touched by the minds of many hands, of many cultures,
causing differing and opposing ideology inflicted on main characters. Such as, in Beowulf, where
he is depicted as both heroic yet iniquitous, depending on which battle one reads. Beowulf character

Saxons and Norse Scandinavians, which took apart in rewriting the epic poem.... Show more content

Symptoms And Changes Of Depression
Depression is a mood disorder characterized by pervasive sadness and psychophysiological
changes like changes in sleep patterns, sexual desires, loss of pleasure in previously enjoyed things,
and even suicidal thoughts (Belmaker Agam, 2008, p. 55). Its rise in prevalence in Western society
means that students with depressionor depressive symptoms are more common in our schools. The
students experience difficulty in motivation and self esteem, and depression is often comorbid with
disorders like ADHD, anxiety, and learning disabilities. This means that students need additional
support in classrooms, and depression is very treatable with cognitive behavioral therapies.
Body
Increasing awareness of mental disorders like anxiety, ADHD, depression, OCD, eating
disorders, and PTSD, has increased public dialog about these disorders. Currently the World
Health Organization estimates that by 2020 depression will be the 2nd highest cause of
morbidity, poor health or diseased state, worldwide (Popa, 2012, p. 414). In this paper, I will
discuss the history of depression, its presence in classrooms, and how schools and teachers can
support the well being and success of their depressed students.
One of the biggest shifts in recognizing mental disorders like depression as real and dangerous
disorders was the suicide of Robin Williams, who struggled with severe depression and anxiety
related to Parkinson s disease ( Robin Williams , 2015). And while later evidence links the cause of

Creating A Good And Memorable Logo
Just assuming, when most people think of logo design, the image probably goes something like
this. A scruffy man, with a graphic T shirt is sitting in front of a Macintosh computer monitor, with
Photoshop open and putting the final touches on the changes of a logo he found in Google images.
This scenario, however plausible sounding, is usually incorrect. There are many different and
complicated steps that go into creating a logo, and even more steps that go into making a good one.
Drafts upon drafts, with variations upon variations, with different color swatches and different
color schemes, and dozens of meetings, with panels of people, with all different preferences and
hopeful intentions who knew all these different aspects went into... Show more content on

graphic designers consider in the first drafts of a logo. However, if the business owner doesn t
understand the reasoning and intentions behind certain decisions that designers make, then it is
unlikely that an effective logo will be created. Keeping with the business owner s journey to
create a good logo, the owner would probably unintentionally create a logo that fits in perfectly
with the current trend of their culture, but that would be a mistake. The outcome of a company
s popularity relies heavily on how well their logo can stand the test of time. If the logo doesn t
need to be changed every couple of months to keep up with the trends, the easier it will be for the
logo to become easily recognizable. A good logo doesn t have to be flashy; actually some of the
most memorable logos in history have been the simplest ones yet.

Ecstasy Use by Humans Essay
Ecstasy Use by Humans
In recent years the recreational use of Methamphetamine (MDMA or Ecstasy) had risen greatly. It
has been linked to the rave lifestyle. Ravers use the drug to heighten their experience while partying
and dancing to electronic music. Persons outside of the rave scene who enjoy the euphoria the drug
produces also employ it. Because of this Methylenedioxymetamphetamine is currently one of the
most popular drugs in the Western world. Clearly research on the effects of this drug is needed to
guard against uneducated use by the masses, which may have disastrous consequences. Oral
administration of MDMA results in a massive increase of extra cellular serotonin. Serotonin is a

Croft, Ph.D. Anthony Klugman, M.D., Torsten Baldeweg, M.D and John H. Gruzelier, Ph.D. the
authors of the aforementioned article. Their findings were published in The American Journal of
Psychology, issue # 158, volume 10, in October of 2001. (1) In their experiment 22 long term
MDMA users, 19 long term cannabis users, and 20 drug naГЇve comparison subjects were
evaluated in an attempt to determine the effect MDMA use has on serotonergic function in
humans. In order to acquire the necessary data measurements were made with EEGs
(electroencelphalagrams,) to measure brain activity in the frontal cortex where serotonin is very
important. EOGs (electrooculograms) were used to measure eye movements. These movements
were calculated as the difference between voltages above and below the left eye. In order to
measure the serotonin an auditory intensity dependence function was employed. 5 HT in the
primary auditory cortex (the part of the brain used to process sound stimulus) is thought to
operate as a protective mechanism by attenuating cortical response to loud auditory stimuli. This
means that auditory stimuli and the subjects response to said stimuli is a good measurement of
serotonin levels. (15,19). An example of this would be if the response to a 100 deci bell noise
would not be proportionately larger than the response to a noise with only 60 deci bells. This is a
particularly good way to measure 5 HT levels

Lack Of Visibility At The World Level
Much of Frances scientific output and contributions have been unrecognized because of lack of
visibility at the world level (Hassan). France s world shares in these fields declined significantly

Aquinas s Investigation Into What Is Truth
Aquinas s investigation into what is truth is systematic from the beginning. As opposed to earlier
attempts, Aquinas s strategy is not to start from the everyday usage of the term truth, but to start
from examining the very structure of the concept. The concept of truth is completely satisfied and
readily identifiable as one of the reinterpreted Thomistic transcendentals which find their roles only
in relation to human soul and being. In the first article of the first question of De Veritate, Aquinas
states that verum is the mode ... that is common, and consequent upon every being. According to
Aquinas, every concept of the human intellect is acquired by addition to ens, which the intellect
first conceives as, in a sense, the best... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unum expresses undividedness of being in itself. Aliquid expresses that being is divided from
others, bonum that it corresponds to the appetitive power, and verum that it corresponds to the
knowing power. The term verum ultimately expresses the common aspect of real beings which the
term being does not express and the aspect is that any being corresponds to the knowing power of
the soul. From this argument, two points are confirmed. First, the term verum corresponds to a real
aspect which belongs to a real being. Second, the aspect of being which verum expresses is not
special but common to all beings. The first element is the reality of verum and the second verum s
transcendentalism. Aquinas s basic understanding of truth of being is that it is real and
transcendental.
For Verum to be understood as real and transcendental, it means that it is not categorical. But
Aquinas says that the aspect of being which verum expresses is the correspondence of a being to
the knowing power. However, if correspondence is a kind of relation, verum would not be
transcendental but categorical, because it expresses a special mode of being, i.e., being ad aliquid.
Aquinas s theory of truth as transcendental is consistent in relation to the human intellect. His
theory of transcendental truth is self sufficient without any relation to the divine intellect. The fact
that Aquinas s theory of

A person doesn t have to wear a cape to be a hero. They can be people just like you and I. We have people in our everyday lives who are our heroes. Many times, our heroes are our loved ones; the ones we look up to. My herois someone very special to me. He has been there since day one and I wouldn t want to go a day without him by my side. As cheesy as it might sound, my hero is my boyfriend, Max. Yes, he s my hero. It s not just because he s my boyfriend; it s because he truly is my hero. • 4. Summary Of Italo CalvinoThe Adventure Of A Skier As time passes, the world moves in a faster pace than ever, creating more chaos and instability than ever for the individual. Everything, from sports to academics to achievements became a race, and people start to lose themselves and their identities in this competitive world. Society is now run by technology, where everything connects to each other. This new lifestyle can hinder people from stepping out of society s bubble to have true self discovery. In this fast paced world, people are stripped from the opportunity to step back and live a simplistic lifestyle, and are usually condemned by many. Only recently, individuals have discovered this missing piece of inner peace within themselves and activities such as yoga and fasting drastically increased, especially within the millennial population. Also, terms about serenity from different religions such as yin yang, Om, and Atman have popularized into a modern day fads and fashions. In his short story, The Adventure of a Skier, Italo Calvinouses simplistic, repetitive diction to create a methodical tone that ultimately suggests that isolation and self determination can help one find inner tranquility in this world of chaos. The modern day lifestyle has a sense of hastiness of it that bears a burden to the people. Calvino uses the contrasting ideas of heaviness and hastens to lightness. In the beginning of this narrative, Calvino describes the disorder and impetuosity of something as simple as standing in a line. That flurry of small disjointed gestures coursed through the line and became frenzied at the front, gives the largest importance to the smallest details to increase the disorder of this scene (Calvino, 1). The narrator uses words such as flurry, disjointed, and frenzied to emphasize on the feeling of disarray (Calvino, 1). The simplistic diction ironically amplifies the chaos. From the beginning to the end of this short story, the leading character is referred as sky blue girl, without any other identity (Calvino, 1). She is always described to be graceful in a condensed way. All her movements were as simple as possible and perfectly suited to her person; she never exaggerated by a centimeter, never showed a hint of agitation or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Tragic Heroism in Shakespeare s Antony And Cleopatra Essay In the tragedy Antony and Cleopatra , Shakespeare presents our protagonist Mark Antony as a tragic hero. He does this by using a number of dramatically effective methods, including language, staging techniques and structure. Aristotle defines a tragic hero as a character of noble stature who has a tragic flaw (usually hubris which is over confidence/arrogance) and suffers a downfall that is partially their fault but also due to factors beyond their control. The downfall they suffer exceeds the crime but the tragic hero gains some sort of self awareness. Before the audience meets Antony, Shakespeare presents us with two soldiers discussing Antony s current debauched life. This is dramatically effective staging because they are acting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another soldier calls him the god of Jupiter which elevates Antony s status to that of a great leader, because Jupiter was the leader amongst all the other gods. Philo compares him to Mars, the god of war, which shows elevates his stature to be one of equal rank with a god. Caesar recalls Antony s excellent soldiership and virtus qualities. Virtus was the Roman ideal of male force and energy: military prowess coupled with devotion to one s honour and fame. Antony had to drink/the stale of horses and eat strange flesh and the bark of trees in order to stay alive and he was borne so like a soldier that thy cheek...lanked not. These striking images paint an unfathomable scene of heroic endurance which the audience respects and admires. The audience is privy to a private conversation in Caesar s home between Caesar and Lepidus, who were the other two thirds of the triple pillar of the world the triumvirate. The triumvirate were a powerful political and military force; they ruled the Roman Empire after the murder of Julius Caesar. During this conversation, they discuss Antony s debauched life and his former greatness in Caesar s home where Caesar feels free to express his opinions honestly and he declares that Antony is a man who is abstract of all faults and someone who would give a kingdom for mirth. This shows us how far he has fallen in Caesar s eyes as his tone would be scathing and I imagine he would be pacing as he ranted about Antony ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Reflection On Design And Design There is a reoccurring theme I took from all the readings in this course, and that is that there is more to engineering than just designing. You have to look at every project you have from all perspectives, and it is very important for you to take all things into account. I chose this Systems analysis diagram because it was a good way for me to group certain main ideas into three main categories of thought. Thinking ethically, thinking before you act, and viewing your projects as a two way street are all very important when working on in the engineeringfield. Thinking ethically has been widely discussed in this course. There are many conceptions of what defines ethics, but I think ultimately it means the greater good for all. In Catalano s Engineering Ethics: Peace, Justice, and the Earth, he states that in order to be ethical, you must think Morally Deep. He writes, A living being is best thought of not as a thing of some sort, but as a living system, an ongoing life process. (Catalano, 2006). I have referenced this many times this semester because I think it is a crucial to expanding your idea of all things to be considered. With a morally deep approach, it forces you to consider all living beings which are ongoing life processes not just breathing organisms. By other life processes it means things in the environment like trees. While trees may not be breathing, they still have their own lifespan and therefore are a life process. Their names had been cried out by tormented young girls as the cause of their pain. All would await trial for a crime punishable by death in 17th century New England, the practice of witchcraft. This excerpt from an article about the Salem Witch Trials embodies the concept of punishment which the Puritans embraced. As shown, Puritans applied ideals of punishment and discipline to prevent sinful behavior, which proves to beneficial in controlling such events. Many individuals increasingly view Puritandoctrines in a negative light. However, these morals actually keep communities well maintained and religiously aware of sin and its consequences. Puritan morals are beneficial to societies because they encourage the avoidance of unholy activities, increased self control, and moderation of behavior. To begin with, Puritan communities largely condemned individuals for minor sins which usually are not considered worthy of extreme punishment, such as excessive drinking. During the Industrial Revolution in the colonial time period, the majority of male factory workers resorted to heavy drinking to distract from the daily hardships and struggles which were prominent at the time. As a result, alcohol was banned from the communities, leading to a major decrease in consumption. In Thoreau s view, technology provoked an excitement that was counterproductive because it served as a distraction from the important questions of life. Perhaps we are led oftener by the love of novelty, and a regard for the opinions of men, in procuring it, than by a true utility. (Walden, 21). Our inventions are wont to be pretty toys, which distracted our attention from serious things. They are but improved means to an unimproved end, an end which it was already but too easy to arrive at; as railroads lead to Boston or New York. We are in great haste to construct a magnetic telegraph from Maine to Texas; but Maine and Texas; it may be, have nothing important to communicate. (Thoreau Walden, 52)The ... He was a fairly normal kid who was down visiting his family when he was brutally murdered for just flirting with a white girl. He was too young to understand what he was doing. On September 19, 1955 Emmett s murder had became an outrage. Because blacks and women were not allowed to serve jury duty, Bryant and Milam were judged in front of an all white male jury. At the end of the case the two white men were found innocent. This really made a lot of chaos. To add to the madness, a couple months later they admitted the crime to Look magazine for four thousand dollars. Emmett s story brought attention to the intense racism in Mississippi. • 21. Mahatma Gandhi Was The Father Of The Independence Movement Mohandas Gandhi is considered the father of the Indian independence movement. When Gandhi was 23 years old, he left his family behind and went to South Africa, arriving in British governed Natal in May 1893. Gandhi arrived there and was hoping to earn a little bit of money and to learn more about law; instead, he went from a very quiet and shy man to a resilient and potent leader against discrimination. This all started when he took a business trip after he arrived in South Africa. He boarded the first train of his journey at the Pietermartizburg station, railroad officials told Gandhi that he needed to transfer to the third class passenger car. Even though he was holding first class passenger tickets and refused to move, a policeman came and threw him off the train. He also faced other challenges on his trip. He found out that this is a common problem with the Indian community. After his experience, he decided to not let these injustices continue, and he was going to fight to change these discriminatory practices. Gandhi spent the next twenty years fight for Indian right in South Africa. During the first three years, Gandhi learned more about Indian grievances, studied the law, wrote letters to officials, and organized petitions. On May 22, 1894, Gandhi established the Natal Indian Congress (NIC). Although the NIC began as an organization for wealthy Indians, Gandhi worked diligently to expand its membership to all classes and castes. Gandhi became well known for his ... From his skilled screenwriting to his directing, Wilder holds a key position in cinema history. Wilder s stylistic and thematic elements are recognizable and give off a complex reflection of his American and European cultural influences. I think that Billy Wilder should be considered an auteur even if he is not already considered one, for his personal film style and the mere fact that his cynical vision allowed him to create many admirable films across a number of genre boundaries throughout his career. Sarris also argues that an auteur is a director whose films are formalistic. I think auteurism has less to do with form and is further based off of a director s symbolic narrative structure. Wilder uses a lot of symbolic narrative structure in his films and they played a huge role in American pop culture. This is what NoГ«l Carroll, Professor of the Philosophy of Art at the University of Wisconsin Madison, had to say about Sarris s formalistic theory on auteurism, In film studies, the examination of the style or form of the individual film is usually subordinated to frameworks that conceptualize the style or form of the individual film as exemplary of something else, usually the personal style of a director, or a period style, or the style of an influential movement or school. (Carroll, pg. 1). Billy Wilder s film not only combine social realism, crime, moral degeneracy and humor; but they represent cultural, political and personal identity through the characters and narratives he constructs. Wilder directed a number of genre films ranging from comedy, film noir, romance, drama, adventure and even fantasy. These different genre aspects of narrative and character are essential to analyzing or critiquing Wilder s body of work and his significance as an auteur. But, the most logical reason by far is due to the heightened opportunities for Americans to better themselves as opposed to other democracies. In Figure 1.3, the value of individualism in America versus foreign democracies is statistically, and very clearly, depicted in its favor. One reason being is that individualism is highly dependant on the government giving the people the tools needed to achieve on their own, and that everyone should be given the same opportunity to achieve success. America was built on opportunity, and this has been proven time and time again throughout history. The greenhouse effect is a natural process that keeps the earth at temperatures that are livable. Energy from the sun warms the earth when its heat rays are absorbed by greenhouse gasses and become trapped in the atmosphere. Some of the most common greenhouse gasses are water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane. If there were no greenhouse gasses, very few rays would be absorbed and the earthwould be extremely cold. When too many rays are absorbed, the earth s atmosphere starts to warm, which leads to global warming. Global warming can lead to many problems that affect the environment in which we live. Methane in the atmosphere is generated by biological activity related to rice cultivation, leaks in domestic and industrial gas lines, and the digestive process of domestic livestock, especially cattle. An environmental effect of global warming is the fact that higher temperatures will lead to a change in the water cycle. Some places may experience more rain. Warmer temperatures will cause a greater amount of evaporation from lakes, rivers, and oceans. In some areas this could be good, and in others it could be considered bad. In northern regions of the United States, an increase in the temperature and amount of rain could actually extend the growing season of crops. This would in turn mean more money for farmers in the northern region. It could also hurt some farmers. Too much rain is bad for some crops. Certain areas will actually get less rain, which would lead to more droughts and have a negative impact on crops. Warm and wet weather is usually a factor that promotes tropical storms. Global warming would lead to tropical storms appearing with greater frequency. More rain will also force plant life to adjust. • 26. Effect Of The Sex Industry On Women Sex work. It sounds harmless enough, attempting to make the sale and purchase of women s bodies as legitimate as any job. Sex work, we are told, represents a feminist response to the masculine hold on the traditional job market. We are further led to believe that it is empowering, that these women are taking control of their sexuality and using it for their own purposes, turning the tables on the patriarchy. The problem with this mindset, however, is that it is not based in reality. The term sex work is meant to make exploitation of women s bodies through their commercialization seem natural. For the purposes of this discussion, it should be noted that sex work covers a wide range of different practices. Most notably, it covers prostitutionand the sale of sex, but it also extends to the strip club industry and the porn industry, as all three of these feed off of each other and emerge from the same broken system. The effects of the sex industryon women, however, differs across racial and class boundaries, especially in prostitution, where women of different ethnic backgrounds are often treated as commodities, to attracts certain consumers interests for exotic tastes. Although the exploitation of women through sex work takes different forms for women of different backgrounds, the sex industry as a whole is a fundamentally harmful institution that profits from the commercialization and objectification of women and women s bodies. All of these events are seen through the eyes of a six year old unnamed boy as he travels and tries to survive the rugged and ever changing landscape of Eastern Europe during World War II. The horrific events of the holocaust are represented by the use of animal imagery that allows the reader to navigate the relationships between the wrong doers and the victims. When we first encounter the boy in the novel he is being sent away by his parents to a village far away from the war so that he will be able to survive. They thought that if he was not with him that he would have a better chance of survival. The boy in not welcome in the villages of Eastern Europe, he is described as being olive skinned, dark haired, and black eyed. (Kosinsky 3). The description of the boy differs from the people in the villages. Because the people in the villages are of Arian descent, having blonde hair and blue eyes, they consider the boy a Gypsy or a Jewish stray. Although artists have similar styles, viewers have their own interpretation when they are analyzing a piece of art in depth. According to Wikipedia, the definition of maturity is a psychological term used to indicate that a person responds to the circumstances or environment in an appropriate and adaptive manner. This response is generally learned rather than instinctual, and is not determined by one s age. Maturity also encompasses awareness of the correct time and place to behave, knowing when to act with appropriate emotion for the situation. Maturity incorporates personal accountability, meaning you take ownership of situations you are involved in. By following one s conscience, you are taking personal accountability. During the adventures of Huck and Tom s treasure hunting, the two came across the antagonist, Injun Joe. Earlier, Huck and Tom witnessed Injun Joe murder a doctor and put the blame on an innocent man. The two juvenile boys had made a vow that neither of them would tell anyone since they were scared that Injun Joe would come after them. This shows fear that most people would experience in this situation. Knowing that an innocent man will be punished for an act he did not commit, Tom s conscience convinced him to testify against Injun Joe, freeing a guiltless man. Critics... view incidents such as Tom s encounters with Injun Joe...as confrontations between innocence and evil which initiate Tom into the world of adult responsibilities and consequences. Near the beginning of the book, Tom falls in love with a beautiful young girl, Becky. The relationship that Tom and Becky shared is very childish and immature. When Tom mentions his past girlfriend, Becky gets super emotional and upset because she thinks Tom is still in love with her. Tom also claims that he will marry Betty even though ... • 41. Of The Irresoubleness Of Diamonds, By Monica Ferrell Grammar consists of a wide array of concepts, meanings, and different classes of words. It can be defined as a linguistic system that exists in the mind of a speaker of a language, a written description of a language, and an abstract notation of an ideal set of rules (of correct or proper grammar) which can be encoded in a handbook (Studies in English Grammar Handbook, pg.7). Monica Ferrell s, Of the Irresoubleness of Diamonds , Harmless, As Recalled by a Fairy Tale , Gerburt des Monicakinds , and Beautiful Funeral each employ four different grammatical issues one of them being the known new contract. By incorporating these grammatical issues into her work, Ferrell intends to develop a clear and sharp image to ignite the imagination of her readers. The poems Of the Irresoubleness of Diamonds , Harmless, As Recalled by a Fairy Tale , Gerburt des Monicakinds and Beautiful Funeral were written by poet and novelist Monica Ferrell. Monica Ferrell was born in New Dehli. She earned her BA from Harvard University and MFA from Columbia University (Poetry Foundation). Ferrell discusses the role of uncertainty in her poems. She states, I m trying to let something that wants to come into being do so poetry as uncovering, rather than invention or rhetoric, and a form of devotion and service . (Poetry Foundation). By using several grammar techniques Ferrell paints a bright image for her readers to ponder upon. Ferrell is an atypical poem and uses a variety of forms to convey her simple and lyrical tone throughout them. One of the reasons that I chose her poems is because of the strong, lyrical language she uses to convey the imagery and earnest tone. Monica Ferrell s poem, Of the irresoubleness of Diamonds uses grammatical concepts such as attributive adjectives. There are three examples where Ferrell uses attributive adjectives in her poem. One example where Ferrell uses attributive adjectives is when she describes, Its delicate handle, the pictures painted there (line 3), the word delicate appears before the nounand is modifying it. Through this example Ferrell she compares her love for someone to a teacup, perhaps implying that it could be the amount of feelings she has for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Symptoms And Changes Of Depression Depression is a mood disorder characterized by pervasive sadness and psychophysiological changes like changes in sleep patterns, sexual desires, loss of pleasure in previously enjoyed things, and even suicidal thoughts (Belmaker Agam, 2008, p. 55). Its rise in prevalence in Western society means that students with depressionor depressive symptoms are more common in our schools. The students experience difficulty in motivation and self esteem, and depression is often comorbid with disorders like ADHD, anxiety, and learning disabilities. This means that students need additional support in classrooms, and depression is very treatable with cognitive behavioral therapies. Body Increasing awareness of mental disorders like anxiety, ADHD, depression, OCD, eating disorders, and PTSD, has increased public dialog about these disorders. Currently the World Health Organization estimates that by 2020 depression will be the 2nd highest cause of morbidity, poor health or diseased state, worldwide (Popa, 2012, p. 414). In this paper, I will discuss the history of depression, its presence in classrooms, and how schools and teachers can support the well being and success of their depressed students. In order to acquire the necessary data measurements were made with EEGs (electroencelphalagrams,) to measure brain activity in the frontal cortex where serotonin is very important. EOGs (electrooculograms) were used to measure eye movements. These movements were calculated as the difference between voltages above and below the left eye. In order to measure the serotonin an auditory intensity dependence function was employed. 5 HT in the primary auditory cortex (the part of the brain used to process sound stimulus) is thought to operate as a protective mechanism by attenuating cortical response to loud auditory stimuli. This means that auditory stimuli and the subjects response to said stimuli is a good measurement of serotonin levels. (15,19). • 51. Aquinas s Investigation Into What Is Truth Aquinas s investigation into what is truth is systematic from the beginning. As opposed to earlier attempts, Aquinas s strategy is not to start from the everyday usage of the term truth, but to start from examining the very structure of the concept. The concept of truth is completely satisfied and readily identifiable as one of the reinterpreted Thomistic transcendentals which find their roles only in relation to human soul and being. In the first article of the first question of De Veritate, Aquinas states that verum is the mode ... that is common, and consequent upon every being. According to Aquinas, every concept of the human intellect is acquired by addition to ens, which the intellect first conceives as, in a sense, the best... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unum expresses undividedness of being in itself. Aliquid expresses that being is divided from others, bonum that it corresponds to the appetitive power, and verum that it corresponds to the knowing power. The term verum ultimately expresses the common aspect of real beings which the term being does not express and the aspect is that any being corresponds to the knowing power of the soul. From this argument, two points are confirmed. First, the term verum corresponds to a real aspect which belongs to a real being. Second, the aspect of being which verum expresses is not special but common to all beings. The first element is the reality of verum and the second verum s transcendentalism. Aquinas s basic understanding of truth of being is that it is real and transcendental. For Verum to be understood as real and transcendental, it means that it is not categorical. But Aquinas says that the aspect of being which verum expresses is the correspondence of a being to the knowing power. However, if correspondence is a kind of relation, verum would not be transcendental but categorical, because it expresses a special mode of being, i.e., being ad aliquid. Aquinas s theory of truth as transcendental is consistent in relation to the human intellect. His theory of transcendental truth is self sufficient without any relation to the divine intellect.
