Essay On Personal Goals
Writing an essay on the topic of personal goals can be both challenging and introspective. The
difficulty lies in the need to articulate one's aspirations, ambitions, and the steps to achieve them
in a coherent and compelling manner. It requires a delicate balance between self-reflection and
effective communication.
Firstly, delving into one's personal goals necessitates a thorough examination of one's values,
passions, and long-term objectives. It requires a deep understanding of oneself, which can be a
daunting task as it involves introspection and self-analysis. Choosing the right goals to highlight
and discuss is crucial, as it sets the tone for the entire essay.
Crafting the essay itself poses its own set of challenges. One must convey their thoughts in a
clear and organized manner, ensuring that the essay has a logical flow. Developing a strong
introduction that captures the reader's attention, followed by well-structured body paragraphs
that delve into specific goals and the motivation behind them, demands careful planning and
attention to detail.
Moreover, maintaining a balance between humility and confidence is vital. While the essay
should showcase personal achievements and ambitions, it is equally important to acknowledge
challenges and areas for growth. Striking this balance requires finesse, as the essay should come
across as genuine and self-aware rather than boastful or overly self-critical.
Additionally, the task involves expressing oneself eloquently. Finding the right words to convey
emotions, determination, and the essence of personal goals requires a mastery of language. The
essay must engage the reader and evoke a sense of connection, prompting them to empathize
with the writer's journey and aspirations.
In conclusion, writing an essay on personal goals is a demanding task that requires self-
reflection, effective communication skills, and a keen understanding of the audience. It is an
opportunity for individuals to articulate their dreams and ambitions, making the process both
challenging and rewarding.

time in recreation activities. The United States is the breeding place for International
casinos. People from every part of the world visit the casinos in the United States for

Managing Casinos
Undoubtedly, casino industry is one of the profitable industries in the United States.
Setting up a casino with a huge investment may be easier. However, management of
casinos requires much groundwork for the casino managers. Traditional way of
running the casino is no longer viable in the current scenario. The days have gone
when casino meant only a few slot machines for people s entertainment. Tough
competition in the casino industry made the task of casino managers more complex.
The first important step in casino management is finding efficient personnel. They are
responsible to manage the daily operations of casino. The manager must be smart,
skillful, intelligent and alert. It has been noticed that one manager run several casinos
in an area. The obvious reason is the difficult in finding efficient professionals.
Space is a major factor in the casinos. Visitors to casino prefer a broad area, which
will make them comfortable to move around. Now a days, most of the prominent
casinos have bigger buildings and wider space. Floor space should be enough for
gaming and other actions. There are some casinos that have more than 60,000
square feet floors. Caesars Atlantic City provides a 124,720 square foot casino
floor space, which is one of the largest gaming areas in Atlantic City. The Harrah s
Atlantic City casino is spread over an 112,918 square feet area (Hashimoto, et al,
310).
People Kill People During The Holocaust
Over 11 million people were killed during the Holocaust. The way they were killed
was terrible and wrong. Not only would the SS kill people, they would also separate
families from each other. One man was the man responsible for all of this. He was the
most important figure in the holocaust because without him, there wouldn t have
been one.
While reading the book NIGHT I learned a lot about the Holocaust that I never even
thought could happen. Such as all the ways they were killing people, how they
would separate people from their families, and how cruel the camps actually were. I
knew that jewish people were getting killed but I only thought they were shot. While
reading, I found out they were also burned, worked to death, suffocated, beat
The World Bank s Support For The Construction Of The

A World Bank Failure
This paper explores the World Bank s support for the construction of the Nam Theun
2 Dam, located in the Lao People s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), in Southeast
Asia. The problems created by this project are examined along with the question of
whether or not international financial institutions (IFI), such as the World Bank
(herein after referred to as
the Bank ) are able to provide assistance in an objective, unbiased and responsible
manner.
Nam Theun 2 Dam
Project Overview
Completed in 2010, the Nam Theun 2 Dam (herein after referred to as NT2 ), is a
1070 Megawatt hydroelectric dam located on the Nam Theun River in central Lao
PDR. Tokyo based Mekong Watch, a non governmental organization (NGO),
estimates NT2 s cost at US$1.45 billion, one of the largest public works projects in
Lao PDR s history. The dam flooded a 450 square kilometer area, creating the Nakai
Plateau reservoir. A principle component of the project included selling ninety to
ninety five percent of NT2 s electrical power to neighboring Thailand (2013).
Project Goals
In 2006, The World Bank Groups Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency
(MIGA), reported that the average daily income of Lao PDR citizens was less than
US$1, lower in rural areas, and that limited options existed for generating income. At
that time, MIGA projected that the NT2 would generate close to US$1.9 billion in
foreign exchange earnings over the dam s twenty five year lifespan (through the

It is with this introduction to water resource management that direct reference to the
Australian Drinking WaterGuidelines (ADWG) is made to substantiate the severity of
consequences related to misuse of water treatment plant.
It is noted that the ADWG is not a mandatory set of standards, though it does provide
the guiding principles defined by the Australian Federal Government to issue high
quality water for personal use, i.e. drinking (ADWG, 2013). The guide considers the
monitoring of water and the systematic approach worth following to ensure the water
entering the plant can be measured for quality on a basis of different variables so as
to determine the effectiveness of plant items used in the reverse osmosis system and
hence the quality of the output water.
The reverse osmosis system utilised has been designed as a result of theoretical
capacity and works at varying levels of water input and output. It is important to
manage the system so the resulting water quality of water leaving the system is
useable for the different purposes that it may be used for, such as drinking water,
agricultural, plant cooling and cleaning and dissipation into existing natural
waterways.

The Molly Maguires
Who were the Molly Maguires? Did they really exist? These are questions asked by
many people today. Some historians wonder if the Molly Maguires really did
bring their secret society from England to the United States, or if the incidents
blamed on them were just random accidents on which officials needed to place a
blame. We may never actually know... There are many ideas about how the Molly
Maguires got their name. One of the most popular is that Molly was a poor widow,
who was evicted from her home after the landlord s agent apparently, severely
abused her and her daughter . The group adopted this name in homage to the Molly
and her bravery. Another theory is that Molly s home was used as the first meeting
place of this new secret... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These crimes were then blamed on the Mollies in order to, hopefully, suppress their
extreme resistance. Many mine owners intimidated miners into complying with what
they wanted by maiming and murdering those suspected of union activism. The trials
for those who were believed to be involved with the Molly Maguires were merely
protocol. Society, the government, and the Catholic Church had already convicted
them. The man who acted as the state prosecutor in some of the cases is quoted to
have said, The name of a Molly Maguire being attached to a man s name is sufficient
to hang him . In many of the trials, the evidence was circumstantial at best and the
witnesses were supplying obviously false information. According to information
recently gathered by historians, the men charged were by no means absolutely guilty,
although it cannot be proved they were completely innocent. Throughout labor
history, there were many strike, as well as many acts of violence committed by both
the miners and the mine owners and bosses. Interestingly enough, none of this history
is taught in many schools across the country. In A History of the United States , a
tenth grade history textbook, there is only one paragraph stating: Miners in the
eastern Pennsylvania coal fields organized a secret
Suffering and Identity in Donne and Wit
One s identity may be questioned when suffering; ultimately suffering is what
creates one s sense of self or what destroys it. The poetry of John Donne and the
play W;t, 1993, by Margaret Edson, both illustrate and explore a sense of suffering
and identity. In John Donne s poetry, suffering, both emotionally and physically
allows the speaker to understand their identity in more depth, in comparison to
Margaret Edson s play, W;t, Vivian s suffering
leads her identity to be stripped away.
In Donne s sonnet, If poysonous mineralls we are shown suffering religiously and
emotionally, through one s sin s, questioning god s justice, which leads to a
realisation of one s identity. In Margaret Edson s play, W;t, Vivian s emotional

And I their Mapp, who lie Flat on this bed . He describes his body as a map, a
metaphor for his life being a journey, which his doctors attempt to read in order to
discover his illness and his suffering and ultimately where his journey ends. In
reference to Cartography, Donne refers to bearings, using the imagery of a map to
point out that what we see on the western edge of a flat map is also to be found on
the eastern edge, showing that he believes life and death are connected to each
other. In the final stanza, Donne feels joy at the though of death as he feels he will
recover his identity by reuniting with the lord. In the final stanza, he returns to the
idea of the first stanza, summing up the poem s central message with the use of a
paradox. Therefore that he may raise the Lord throws down. This paradox shows
that to rise up to heaven, one must be thrown down by death, so therefore one must
suffer to be accepted and united in a place where one s identity is established. His
extreme suffering has purged and prepared him for paradise.
Vivian s physical suffering is caused by her illness, which slowly deteriorates her
identity. In W;t, Vivian s physical character is enhanced by her power through
Language and it s discourse. As time progresses, cancer slowly cause s her to suffer
physically, and therefore inverts her powerful identity. On page 25, Vivian s body is

Jane Austen s Pride And Prejudice
Benjamin Disraeliance once said, Characters do not change. Opinions alter, but
characters are only developed . This quote exemplifies that viewpoints can always
have a sudden shift at any point of time, but a persons moral qualities must be
established over time. In Jane Austen s novel, Pride and PrejudiceElizabeth Bennet is
the main character who is a lady in the Regency Era. Elizabeth lives in Longbourn
with her parents, Mr and Mrs Bennet and her four sisters. In the beginning of the
novel, Elizabeth s prejudice mindset and strong opinion blinds her from realizations
happening around her. Soon, Elizabeth s prejudice disappears allowing her to open
up and fall in love. Throughout Jane Austen s novel, Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth...

Darcy unravels how Elizabeth does what most women would have never done,
deny a dance. Additionally, Elizabeth clarifies that she does not move closer to beg
for a partner . This proves that she is fine with being alone and not dancing, unlike
most women of the 19th Century. She also illustrates how women s minds work
around men that appeal to them. By stating how a lady s imagination is very rapid
it clarifies that she understands that ladies fantasize about a future that may never
occur. Elizabeth discusses three stages of the imagination . She first states
admiration meaning once a lady finds a characteristics that pleases them, such as
wealth, they instantly go to the second stage which is to fall in love. After being in
love for a short time frame, the lady wants to transition to matrimony which is
getting married. These three steps occur is a short period of time, which is not
what Elizabeth wants to involve herself in. This provides how Elizabeth does not
believe in the common view of love being about wealth, because she feels as if it is
not a clear, absolute feeling since it is rushed since she values the true definition of
love being, an intense feeling of deep affection . In summary, Austen
Moses And The Ten Plagues
MOSES AND THE TEN PLAGUES In the story of Moses and the Ten Plagues which
stretches from Exodus 7 12, God begins with pure lies. First, God says to Moses and
the elders of Israel to say to the king of Egypt, The LORD God of the Hebrews has
met with us and now let us go, we beseech you, three days journey into the
wilderness that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God (3:18). This is a lie because
what God is actually trying to do is find a way to get the Israelitesout of Egypt
permanently and as quickly as possible, not just for a three day religious retreat.
And He also says that when they leave Egypt they will take the spoils with them
(3:21 22) despite the whole Thou shalt not steal thing. Then from Exodus 7 12 there

Humanitarian Intervention Does Not Become A
Smokescreen...
ensure humanitarian intervention does not become a smokescreen for bullies (Weiss,
2004: 142). This is precisely what the ICISS has achieved with its report
Responsibility to Protect.
As has been echoed in this essay the ICISS focuses on the notion that with
sovereignty comes responsibility, specifically the responsibility to protect human
rights (Evans et al., 2001: 12). Thus, it is primarily the duty of the state to uphold
human rights. However, Where a population is suffering serious harm, as a result of
internal war, insurgency, repression or state failure, and the state in question is
unwilling or unable to halt or avert it, the principle of non intervention yields to the
international responsibility to protect (Evans et al., 2001: XI). It is here were the
emphasis is drawn to those who need the intervention rather than the nation
intervening (Weiss, 2004: 138). This is important, as intervention is no longer a right
of the intervening state (i.e. in so far as they can exploit the situation) but rather a
responsibility of states to protect those most vulnerable, hence the shift from the
terminology of intervention to responsibility .
What this framework consequently does is make the correct weigh up between
sovereignty and human rights by creating a connection between the two (Sarkin,
2008: 52). Moreover, this allows for real and effective action to be undertaken for
those who require it. It accomplishes this by a precise framework for both the criteria

art has some of the most intriguing images to offer. Art galleries, museums, art

colors chosen. Granted, not all art has a deeper meaning beyond whatever the artist
splattered onto a blank canvas. In that case, it s all in the eye of the beholder.

The Symbols And Similarities Of Captain America And
Theseus
Throughout human history, heroes have served as symbols of hope, sacrifice, and
inspiration. Modern superheroes and ancient Greek heroes inspire societies with their
impressive and heroic feats. Theseus and Captain America are no exception, they are
legendary heroes of major significance. Captain America and Theseus symbolize a
heros importance through their similarities and differences. They both sacrifice their
lives for others safety, are symbols and champions of their people, and teach different
life lessons in their stories.
A similarity Captain America and Theseus share is how they sacrifice their lives for
other people s safety. In the movie Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain

Therefore, Captain America s actions and choices turned him into a heroic symbol
for his people. In the book Mythology, Theseus was praised as a champion by the
people of Athens, because he rid of the bandits, Greece rang with the praises of the
young man who had cleared the land... he was acknowledged as a hero (150). Like
Captain America, Theseus has become the champion of his world. He was
recognized as a hero for his brave deeds, and becomes a symbol of hope. Captain
America and Theseus each are champions of their world and symbols of strength,
another important factor of the hero. They also teach different lessons of life through
their story.
The story of Captain America teaches about the need for courage, while Theseus
story teaches to not jump to conclusions. In the film Captain America: The First
Avenger, Steve bravely decides to sneak behind enemy lines to rescue hundreds of
American soldiers, You saved nearly 400 men...Your a hero (Captain America: The
First Avenger). Steve bravely sneaked behind German lines to release hundreds of
men, including his best friend. No other soldier beside Steve would have the
courage to perform such a task. Captain America s story elaborates on the need for
courage to perform any dangerous tasks. In the novel Mythology, Theseus father kills
himself in desperation after seeing black flags of death on Theseus ship, It was to

Moore Vs Hlobo
This essay will explore the contrasts and similarities that can be taken from two
drawings. Henry Moore s, Standing figures of 1940 and Nicholas Hlobo s, Macaleni
Iintozomlambo of 2010. It will discuss the comparisons that can be made about the
colour schemes, composition and subject matter of the pieces. This will also include
an evaluation of how the time scales and influences of the period have affected the
final outcomes of the two artists. The two pieces actually share many more
similarities than first hits the eye after deconstructing all of the components listed.
Henry Moore is typically renowned for the many sculptures mused by the human
form, typically the female form. He began his artistic venture in 1919 where he
attended Leeds School of art, here he met Barbra Hepworth and was inspired
greatly by her. He then received many scholarships leading to the opportunity to
travel around the world, it was early Mexican and Aztec that mostly inspired his
work. His first commissioned piece was in 1928 and named West Wind. In order to
create his pieces he did however create unfinished drawing plans of organic
compositions that he could imagine creating to a much larger scale. These were often

Johnson s Seagrass And Its Effects
Johnson s Seagrass is a small, fragile seagrass that reproduces asexually. As a
consequence, it s range is limited to 200 kilometers in length of river mouths and
tidal rivers off the coast of Florida, making it the seagrass with the most limited
distribution in the world. It s leaves are about 2 5 cm in length. This seagrassis
tolerant of variations in salinity but is not tolerant of damage caused by human
boating activities and actions including anchoring and dredging. This species of
seagrass is so easily moved that it is uprooted by the turbidity caused from boat
propellers. Halophila Johnsonii is also threatened by poor water quality including
runoff and low oxygen levels. Johnson s seagrass was declared a threatened species

More specifically, Important ecological and economic functions of seagrass beds
have been widely acknowledged, notably their importance to fisheries and their
role in preventing coastal erosion and siltation of coral reefs (Erftemeijer and
Lewis. 2006). Coral reefs are already disappearing at astonishing rates and siltation
is even more detrimental to their survival. Since the number of acres of seagrass
off the coast of Florida has decreased significantly in the past 65 years, it is
especially concerning that Johnson s seagrass reproduces asexually because The
plant has a reduced capacity to repopulate an area if lost due to human or
environmental perturbations (Johnson s Seagrass Recovery Team, 12).
The objective of this research is to determine whether or not Johnson s seagrass
endangerment is correlated to the amount of detrimental pollutants that humans are
putting in aquatic ecosystems such as excess nitrates and oil from dredging. The
critical prediction in this experiment is that as the concentration of a pollutant in the
water Johnson s seagrass grows in increases, the amount of growth decreases over
time. The dry weight of the plant over time would decrease when grown in polluted
water when comparing the dry weight of the plant when grown in clean water.
The Flint River located in western Georgia is quite unpolluted and will be fit to
reproduce these clean water conditions in the laboratory.

If his mother does not allow him to take iniative then he will feel guilt for his
attempts at independence. He may also be in the industry vs. inferiority stage.
This means he should be aware of his responsibilities such as homework and chores.
He should be able create a sense of industry, if praised and rewarded by his mother. If
not, then he will feel inferior. He would also be influenced by his peers and teachers.
However, this is merely how is should be, but is not how it is for Eric. Lack of
iniative is not the problem. Without a parental figure present, Eric was forced to
take on too much iniative and make too many decisions on is own. He feels no guilt
in being independent but according to Erikson, should feel inferior due to the lack of
praise and reward from his mother.

knowledge of the world through reorganization and they move to higher levels of
psychological functioning. Piaget looked at how kids think of themselves and their
environment, when moving through each stage. In these stages, children select what
they see and they interpret. In the preoperational stage, ranging from ages 2 7,
children should have a mastery of language and use words to represent objects. In this
stage, children cannot use developmental capacities systematically. They are quite
egocentric,
Comparing The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Sumerian
Flood
The seemingly similar flood stories of the Sumerians, found in The Epic of
Gilgamesh, and of the Israelites, described in Genesis, portray the power that the
deities had over the creatures of Earth and their abilities to determine the existence of
mankind to their liking, whether or not the reason is sensible. Mesopotamian culture
believed that the gods created mankind to do their bidding on earth and to provide
for them. As opposed to the Sumerians sole reason for mankind, there are many
implications as to why the Israelites Godcreated man. Some say God created man as a
part of his eternal plan to lead man to eternal life; others believe that man is a part
of God s plan to defeat evil and by putting faith in God, Satan can be defeated....

The Epic of Gilgamesh describes the livid flame from the torches of the judges of
hell and Enlil smashing the land like a cup. This flood was an extremely violent
event that lasted six days and nights. In the end, the gods seemed to rejoice about a
surviving human as he offers them a sacrifice. Ishtar denies Enlil of the sacrifice
because this ordeal was mainly his doing and Ea, in short, says that when man
sins, he should not be punished too hard. The value of man to the Sumerian gods
seems greater than the value of man to the Israelites God. Man was created in
Mesopotamia to serve the gods and provide for the gods through offerings; Enlil s
irresponsibility almost cost the gods everything. Man s relationship to God is
more of a familial one, where man finds comfort in Him and mankind is God s
children. Despite this amorous relationship, the flood in Genesis carried on
exceedingly longer than that of the Sumerian s, lasting one hundred and fifty days,
but this detail is more or less looked over because the positive relationship is then
reinforced when God promises Noah that never again will all life be cut off... never
again will there be a flood to destroy the earth... to destroy all
The Simpsons as a Sitcom Essay
The Simpsons as a Sitcom
The Simpsons is an example of an American sitcom. A sitcom is situation comedy,
which is when the same setting and same characters appear in every episode.
Examples of sitcoms are programs such as The Crosby Show and more recent
sitcoms such as Friends . Sitcoms surfaced in the 1950 s in America showing the
ideal family. Slowly sitcoms started to show the reality of life and dealt with social
issues such as divorce and unemployment. Sitcoms have become very popular

expect. A good example of this structure is shown in one Simpson s episode called
Roasting on an open fire. It starts of or orientates when the family are at a school
production for Christmas setting the scene and letting the audience know that it has
something to do with Christmas. Then comes the complication when Bart gets a
tattoo and they have to use all their Christmas money to get it removed. Also Homer
doesn t get his Christmas bonus. To resolve this Homer gets another job as father
Christmas but doesn t get enough money. He bets it on a dog and loses everything.

Supply Chain Game Board Game
The object of the game is to meet customer demand for cases of beer through the
distribution side of a multi stage supply chain with minimal expenditure on back
orders and inventory. There are four stages, manufacturer, distributor, supplier,
retailer, with a two week communication gap of orders toward the upstream and a
two week supply chain delay of product towards the downstream. There is a one
point cost for holding excess inventory and a one point cost for any backlog (old
backlog + orders current inventory). In the board game version, players cannot see
anything other than what is communicated to them through pieces of paper with
numbers written on them, signifying orders or product. The retailer draws from a
deck of cards for what... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suppliers, manufacturers, sales people, and customers have their own, often
incomplete, understanding of what real demand is. Each group has control over
only a part of the supply chain, but each group can influence the entire chain by
ordering too much or too little. Further, each group is influenced by decisions that
others are making. This lack of coordination coupled with the ability to influence
while being influenced by others leads to what Stanford s Hau Lee refers to as the
Bullwhip Effect. It refers to the effect that the amount of periodical orders amplifies
as one moves upstream in the supply chain towards the production end. Even in the
face of stable customer demand small variations in demand at the retail end tend to
dramatically amplify upstream the supply chain with the effect that order amounts
are very erratic, and can be very high in one week and almost zero in the next
A Research Study On Photosynthetic Active Radiation
All sites in the study were sampled over a one to two week time frame during each
sample period to reduce any effect that might be associated with changing
temperature or light availability, between weeks or months. Photosynthetic active
radiation (PAR) was measured every 15 min, using an Odyssey light logger (Data
flow systems, Christchurch, New Zealand) to monitor changing light availability
across days and weeks. Light loggers were placed at a subset of sites in an area
adjacent to the stream under similar light conditions as the stream channel. The
percentage of shading from streamside trees at light logger stations was calculated
and used to convert measured light to full sunlight and values across all sites were
averaged to create... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A mean value of turbidity over each day the sonde was deployed was used as the
estimate of base flow turbidity.
Siphon samplers, constructed similarly to Graczyk et al. (2000), were used to
collect water samples during storm flows. They were positioned next to the stream
at 10 and 30 cm above base flow. Additionally, base flow unfiltered grab samples
were collected from the thalweg of each stream during each sample period and
stored on ice until returning to the laboratory. Subsets of both the storm and base
flow grab water samples were stored at 20ВєC until analysis for total nitrogen (TN)
and total phosphorus (TP). Total nitrogen was analyzed using a Shimadzu TOC V
CSH equipped with the TNM 1 analyzer (Shimadzu Scientific Instruments,
Columbia, MD). For TP analysis, water samples were digested using persulfate and
then analyzed for SRP using the standard colorimetric molybdate/ascorbic acid
method (APHA 2005). Geometric means were calculated for TN and TP annually
from two base flow and two storm flow samples, due to the expectation that both
base flow and storm flow conditions drive patterns of algal biomass and GPP. The
geometric mean reduces the influence of extreme values and allows for a better
estimation of annual nutrient concentrations than the arithmetic mean.
Algal Biomass Two cobble samples from three sets of riffles and pools across each
study reach were used to determine algal biomass. Each cobble was scraped and the
Filibuster Case
Filibuster A filibuster was first intended to let a minority opinion be heard during a
senate meeting. It allowed any senator the right to speak. It later became a way for
a senator to halt the progress of a bill. The rule was first allowed back in 1806.
When it began to become a problem senate urged President Woodrow Wilson to
pass a rule called cloture. Cloture was a way for the senate to vote to end a
filibuster. It was put in place in 1917. The problem was, it didn t vote out many
attempts at a filibuster because cloture required a 2/3 vote to end a filibuster.
Filibusters were commonly used during the 1960 s to help southerners to halt the
progress of civil right legislation. The most known being the Civil Rights act of
1964. The proposed

Agency Theory Essay
QUESTION 1 (i)
AGENCY COSTS IN DEBT CONTRACTING
The agency theory examines the relationship between the principle and agent under
the assumption that that individuals act in their own self interest in order to
maximise their personal wealth. This conflict of interest creates agency costs that
are borne by the principle. The agency problem is apparent in debt contacting
relationships where the firm is assumed to be acting in the interests of its
shareholders when borrowing money from the debt holders. Agency costs are
incurred by the debt holder when a firm engages in opportunistic behaviours in an
attempt to expropriate wealth away from its debt holder. As a result, the debt holder
faces an increased risk of lending the funds to the firm. There are four common
opportunistic actions that firm can take in order to expropriate wealth from its debt
holder
PAY EXCESSIVE DIVIDENDS
Black (as cited in Smith and Warner, 1979) states that there is no easier way for a
company to escape the burden of debt than to pay out all of its assets in the form of
dividend, and leave the creditors holding an empty shell . In this situation, the firm
promises the debt holder to maintain a consistent dividend policy at the time of
borrowing funds but later increases the rate of dividends. According to Smith and
Warner (1979), the increase in dividend policy reduces the value of the debt and
ultimately, increases the risk to the debt holders. The firm is being opportunistic
because debt holders
Essay on Abuse of Power in Catch-22
The Abuse of Power Exposed in Catch 22
In 1955, Joseph Heller wrote Catch 22. The story takes place on a small island in
the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Italy. As the story progresses, it follows the
actions of a man named Yosarrian and his companions in his squadron. Many of the
men begin with high rank and others are promoted throughout the novel. As these
men come into power, one of Heller s themes is explicitly shown; as men achieve
power, they become compelled to abuse it.
The story begins with Yosarrian in a hospital. He is there with a pain in his liver that
fell just short of being jaundice. The doctors were puzzled by the fact that it wasn t
quite jaundice. If it became jaundice they could treat it. If it ... Show more content on

Well, go ahead and cut already if you re going to. Make the incision (420). The
doctors have no regard for Yosarrian s wishes, they just want to do what ever they
want. The problem is that they are able to. As doctors, they are assumed to be
trustworthy people, but they abuse that trust and use their position of power to do as
they please.
One of the most incompetent men in the outfit is Colonel Cathcart. He is a man
who is obsessed with improving his own rank at any cost, including the lives of the
men he commands. Throughout the story, Colonel Cathcart tries to think up of
schemes that could get his picture in The Saturday Evening Post. Maybe if we say
prayers, they ll put my picture in The Saturday Evening Post (188). Throughout the
novel, Colonel Cathcart also raises the number of missions needed to go home. He
does this to make his unit look superior to others. He has no regard for the lives of
his men, he only thinks of himself. Men like Colonel Cathcart become corrupt with
power and crave more of it. They abuse their high rank to promote themselves. They
are willing to sacrifice almost anything to make a small gain in power.
Lieutenant Scheisskopf is one of the most absurd characters in Catch 22. He is

Ellen Foster, Lord Of The Flies, And To Kill A Mockingbird
This world is full of inspiring, thoughtful, and hardworking people. Its full of crises
and hard life decisions people make everyday. The books Ellen Foster, Lord of the
Flies, and To Kill a Mockingbird all capture these qualities of humankind. They are
full of savagery, plane crashes, racial issues, child abuse, and perseverance. All three
novels connect by how tenacious people are when they are required to overcome
adversity.
In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, there is a plane crash which abandoned a
large amount of boys with no parental guidance on an island stranded. The boys
struggled to survive through the whole book. The boys are desperate to eat
something other than fruit, so they try and try to kill a pig, but have a of trouble
with it. These boys though did not give up. They surrounded the covert but the
sow got away with the sting of another spear in her flank. The trailing butts
hindered her and the sharp, cross cut points were a torment. She blundered into a
tree, forcing a spear still deeper; and after that any of the hunters could follow her
easily by the drops of vivid blood .(Golding 196?) This quote shows how
determined the boys were to get meat. This scene was known as the rape scene
because the boys wanted to kill a pig so bad for the meat and the power. This book
displayed the ability that boys could survive on their own even though there might
have been some major conflicts they had to face.

Remebering Vimy Essay
Whether it be depictions of the noble savage or a red clad, horse riding Mountie
patrolling the northern nation, Canadians have a knack for creating a mythical
element to their past. Deconstructing national myths has become a burgeoning field
of academic inquiry as evidenced by monographs such as Daniel Francis in his book
National Dreams: Myth, Memory, and Canadian History. A central event in the
Canadian consciousness, with much national sentiment attached to it, is that of Vimy
Ridge. On April 9, 2007 over thirty five hundred high school students from across
Canadacongregated at the newly restored Canadian National Vimy Memorial near

This essay examines the myth formation of Vimy Ridge in the English Canadian
myth symbol complex. Through an examination of the military achievements upon
which the Vimy myth is based, global and local views of the success at Vimy, the
foundation of Vimy as national myth will be examined. The cultural aftershock
shown through the magnitude of published poetry and construction of a National
Monument, and how the Battle of Vimy Ridge is taught in English Canadian
secondary education systems will divulge an analyse of Vimy Ridge as an active part
of the English Canadian imagined community s myth symbol complex ninety years
after its conception. Although among Allied powers, the Battle of Vimy Ridge
remains only a part of the much larger British offensive, the Battle of Arras. For
Canadians, however, Vimy is perpetuated through Canadian history as the birthplace
of English Canadian nationhood from a time when it lacked a strong global presence
on the international stage.
Before an examination of the perpetuation of Vimy as a national myth within
Canadian society can occur, the term myth itself must be clarified. Myth will neither
be viewed as a pejorative or positive term, nor as quaint stories or falsehoods. Rather,
in accordance with the definition of myth provided by Clarence Bolt, myths are
deeply (often unconsciously) held beliefs and values that provide people with

Analysis Of Marquette University s Marketing And...
Marquette University had many successes building its brand through a strategic
social media strategy. According to the case study, members of The Office of
Communications and Marketing supported and participated in the conception and
planning stages to help structure an effective social media strategy. In addition to the
research and information gathered internally, the universityalso engaged with a variety
of audiences, not physically on the campus, to further extend its market research and
brand. Marquette University s marketing and communications team s strategy for
social media is focused on engagement, dialogue, bridging of information, and
community. This strategy aligns with the university s mission, the search for truth,
the discovery and sharing of knowledge, the fostering of personal and professional
excellence ( About Marquette: Our Mission, n.d.).
I think the digital efforts by the Marquette University were effective because of the

Essay about Eliyahu M. Goldratt s The Goal
The Goal
Here are the principles behind the dramatic turnaround story in The Goal.
The goal of a manufacturing organization is to make money. Jonah poses this as a
question: What is the goal? and Rogo actually struggles with it for a day or two, but
any manager or executive that can t answer that question without hesitation should be
fired without hesitation.
But then again, the goal isn t clear to everyone. One of the characters in the book, an
accountant, responds to an offhand comment about the goal with a confused The
goal? You mean our objectives for the month? That s sureto strike a chord with a lot
of readers.
At an operational level, measure your success toward the goal with these three

Decrease the unit of work. If you ve got people idle, you can afford to have them do
their work in smaller chunks. Under a cost accounting model, this hurts their
efficiency by removing certain economies of scale. But you have much faster turn
around time. Everyone s more flexible. Work flows more smoothly. (Well, this is
what the book says.)

The Goal A Process Engineering Novel
I read Eliyahu M. Goldratt s novel The Goal the other night, instead of sleeping.
The book has two parts. In the first 264 pages, a manufacturing plant manager turns
his failing plant into a tremendous success. That part of the book ends with the
manager s promotion to a position with oversight over several failing plants. In the
second part of the book (73 pages), the manager prepares for his new job by trying to
deduce a repeatable process of ongoing improvement. He s trying to make sense of
what happened in the first part of the book so he ll have half a chance of repeating
that success on a greater scale.
For now, I ll set aside considerations of why The Goal is a novel, how effective it is
as a book, whether it succeeds as literature, and so on. This article is primarily about
the ideas behind the book, and why some are valuable while others are probably quite
useless.
How to Turn Around a Failing Plant
The first part of the book is about a manufacturing plant.
Subprime Mortgages And The Mortgage Crisis
Mortgage securities are crucial when it comes to the availability and cost of housing
in the United States. This paper will analyze the mortgage securities market, and how
the market functions. It will also focus on the subprime mortgages created from 2000
to 2006. Suggestions will be presented that would protect against the types of
problems experienced in the mortgagesecurities market from 2006 through 2009.
Mortgage securities are considered an ownership interest in mortgage loans made by
mortgage companies, commercial banks and other private entities to finance the
borrower purchase home or other property. Mortgage securities were created when
the servicers pool loans for sale to investors. The investors receive payments of
principal and interest when mortgage loans are paid off by homeowners.
Investors in the secondary market often purchase mortgage securities after they are
issued. Large institutions make investments in mortgage securities when they are
issues. Other dealers in a secondary market sometimes redistribute securities.
Mortgage securities are issued by the Government National Mortgage Association
(Ginnie Mae), or by government sponsored enterprises (GSEs) such as the Federal
National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage
Corporation (Freddie Mac) (Freddie Mac, 2002).
Mortgage securities are often priced at a higher yield that corporate or Treasury
bonds. The opportunities for profit are also greater. Mortgage
Revolutions And Analysis Of Petrus
During a reading of the novel Disgrace and analysis of Petrus, my mind wandered to
the aftermath of the revolution in my home country Serbia. After fifty five years of
rule, the oppressive communist regime was finally overthrown and regular citizens
could be heard, with almost contagious optimism, saying I breathe with full lungs
again . However, while we had many benefits of adopting democracy and joining the
international institution, one part of the population quickly started theft of ex
government companies; bribery and corruption were rampant within the new
democratic ruling class. That brings me back to my analysis; while the situation is
not fully comparable, the actions and behavior of Petrus in the novel Disgraceby J.M
Coetzee symbolize positive as well as negative power shift and socio economical
changes of long oppressed majority black population in post apartheid South African
society. Much the same what my home country experienced after the establishment of
the new democratic institution, in a power vacuum, sometimes immoral people who
committed unlawful acts rise first in the hierarchy of the new society. All the
revolutions or transformation of the state have brought us advancements of
humanity, but also the dark reign of terror; we all can remember examples of French
and Russian revolution. I will present to you that J.M. Coetzee showed us both sides
of that transfer of power in the character of Petrus. First, the position of the black
majority in

very informal meeting that everyone seemed to already be acquainted. All the
members directed each other by name and I was welcomed by, what seemed to be,
a regular attendee as well as a new member. I sat down and initiated conversation

This put the topic more towards forgiveness rather than anything else. The only
topic discussed, as I recall, was forgiveness. Many members gave their accounts of
moments in which they felt sorry and how they handled the situation. I will refrain
from going into further detail about any of the members of the group to keep their
anonymity. The meeting concluded with the serenity prayer. I was not familiar
with this prayer so I just held the hands of those near me and bowed my head out of
respect. Specific attendees of the meetings appeared more active and attentive
than others. Some of them seemed as though they did not want to be there and
looked miserable. About one or two of the members even fell asleep a couple of
times. Maybe some members went because they had to or because they just
wanted to help tell themselves that they are trying. This really interested me
because it is important to take notice that some people go and progress due to
being active and others are just forced. In the case of being forced it is very easy to
go to the meeting and just not be attentive or active. During the meeting I felt very
enlightened. The topic of forgiveness is very broad and is even relevant in my own
life. The viewpoint on the topic was very different and interesting. They talked
more about being forgiving of ourselves because we are the ones that cause
ourselves to react negatively to life s daily hassles and stressors. They also spoke on

The Cownership Of Native Americans In The Native
American...
Until the 1600 s a tribe living in the Eastern Woodlands of America called the
Shawnees inhabited the lands west of the Appalachian Mountains in areas between
the Ohio Valley and the Mississippi River, this tribe has faced many hardships and
were left feeling resentful for all the unjust they ve encountered. My why question
is derived from reading chapter 16 of World Together World Apart Volume 2 and its
relevant to our course because no one really discusses how the American settlers
colonized the Native Americans and how Tribes are still having negative effects
from this history, why did so many people from the Shawnees tribe in the Ohio
Valley gather around to listen to the prophecies from a ShawneeShaman in 1805? To
answer this question, I will focus on how the Shawnees faced constant disownership
of their land by European settlers, the aftermath of American settlers migration to the
western country , and how Tenskwatawa visions motivated people.
From 1662 1794, the Shawnees dealt with constant warfare and dislocation from
foreign forces. First being dragged into the French and Indian conflict, and having to
deal with the repercussions of the French losing the war against the British, then the
British losing against the Americans, which would create an influx of American
settlers to the western country . In the book Shawnee!: The Ceremonialism of a
Native Indian Tribe and Its Cultural Background by Howard James he discusses the
role the Shawnees played during the

Florence Nightingale Values
Whether the time be hundreds of years ago or today, Florence Nightingale
demonstrates the same nursing values as nurses today. What would the nation do if
Florence Nightingale did not notice the unsanitary conditions of the military
hospitals? The uncleanliness of the hospitals would kill the patients before the
diseases do. Nightingale left an impact on the history of nursing. Nightingale s strong
values influence the future nurses of today (Stichler, 2014).
Florence Nightingale was the founder for nursing. Even though Nightingale s family
was against the career of nursing, she pursued her passion of learning to care for the
ill. She strived to help the people sick and in need. Nightingale showed her caring
heart when she helped cure soldiers during the Crimean War. She showed her
compassion as she helped the wounded soldiers from the battlefield. Over time,
Nightingale noticed the unsanitary conditions at the base hospital. Since the
conditions were extremely unsanitary, Nightingale recorded the mortality rate of the
soldiers. According to her data, the soldiers hospitalized were seven times more likely
to pass away from unsanitary environments and not injuries from the battlefield. After
the environmental conditions improved, the mortality rate decreased from 60% to
2%. With the help of fresh fruits and vegetables, Nightingale helped improve the
mortality rate drastically. Nightingale brought attention to the unsanitary
environments of the hospital.
Marx Vs Simmel
As expressed on page 259, Simmel attributes the rise in value of an item based on
the desire for it and the quantity of which there is. Should an item that is popular
and in demand by a multitude of people at the same time the value goes up to
accommodate the particular circumstances. As far as Marx goes, they stand at
opposite sides of the ring in terms of how they find value. Marx finds value through
the amount of labor time invested alone whereas Simmel bases it on the amount of
sacrifice required to obtain the item and the amount of desire for said item.
Interestingly enough I find few things to have high value aside from those that
contain sentimental value. I don t appreciate materialism in the least but because of
my position in a society

Key Women s Issues in HR
We have to pass pay equity for women workers. It is not acceptable that women are
making 78 cents an hour compared to men, said democratic candidate Bernie
Sanders in a speech to the National Press Club in March of this year. 52 years after
the Equal Pay Act was passed, working women in the United States still face a gender
pay gap no matter what career they are in and while we have made progress since
1963, recently any improvement on the wage disparity has remained stagnant.
Woman have historically been treated unequally to men despite their non majority
status, and even to this very day in the year 2015 are still treated unequally and
discriminated against in the workforce.

Then, a little over a year later Title VII of Civil Rights Act of 1964 helped strengthen
the Equal Pay Act by prohibiting employee discrimination based on sex and almost
half a decade later President Obama passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which
also helped strengthen the original Equal Pay Act as well as removed the statute of
limitation on filing for gender pay discrimination ( Everything You Need to Know
about the Equal Pay Act ).
Despite all of the efforts by politicians in the last decade, the gender pay gap in the
United States still continues to persist. A study conducted by the Pew Research
Center in the fall of 2014 looked at how the gender pay gap between men and
woman has narrowed, but still persisted. Over 30 years ago, a woman made 64
cents to the dollar that a man made fast forward to 2015 and women earn 79 cents
to a man s dollar. Despite this increase, the pay gap still persists and recently has
been shrinking much more slowly; from 1980 to 1990 the pay gap shrunk 11
cents, but only shrunk 3 cents between 1990 and 2000 and 6 cents more between
2000 and 2012. In spite of the gains made to narrow the gap, why does it still
persist? Many women have taken a significant amount of time off of work to care
for family members or quit all together according to those surveyed by the Pew
Research Center, 39% took time off to care for family, 42% had to reduce their
hours, and 27% quit work

Potential Therapeutics For Treating Type 2 Diabetes
Mellitus
Bromophenols have been identified as potential therapeutics for treating type 2
diabetes mellitus (T2DM) due to their suspected tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B)
inhibitory activity. A new series of bromophenol analogues will be synthesised and
their PTP1B inhibitory activity will be tested in in vitro enzymatic assays to
elucidate their mechanism of action as PTP1B inhibitors.
Background and Introduction
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic disease that is caused by insulin
resistance of the peripheral tissues and impaired insulin secretion of the pancreatic ОІ
cells.1 Both conditions result in reduced glycemic control, which can lead to
hyperglycemia. Despite the availability of a wide range of anti diabetic drugs to treat
T2DM, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bromophenols have attracted much attention as potential PTP1B inhibitors due to
their suspected anti diabetic activity.4 Bromophenols occur naturally in marine
organisms such as algae, mollusks and jellyfish. (В±) Polysiphenol (1, figure 1) is
an example of a bromophenol that can be extracted from the marine algae
Polisiphonia Ferulecea.5 After the Braddock group successfully achieved the first
total synthesis of (В±) polysiphenol and the separation of its enantiomers, they
collaborated with the Woscholski group to test their inhibitory activity in PTP1B
enzymatic assays.6,7 Both enantiomers of polysiphenol were essentially found to be
identical in PTP1B inhibitory activity. Thus polysiphenol, as single enantiomers,
cannot be responsible for the observed inhibition. This implicates a chemical
change of polysiphenol into a non chiral form is likely to take place under the
conditions of the assay. One possibility is the formation of a para quinone methide
species (4, figure 1), which in turn can tautomerise into an ortho quinone methide
species (5, figure 1). Thus there are various possible reactive species that might be
responsible for the observed inhibition of PTP1B. The formation of quinones
highlights a red flag in drug discovery due to their highly reactive nature. Quinones
are Michael acceptors that are known to cause toxicity in vivo by covalently binding
to nucleophilic sites on proteins and DNA.8 Consequently, quinones

The first one we re going to talk about is when he was 2 years old, he fell on the
toilet seat and had to get stitches under his eyebrow. A couple of years later when
he was 4 years old, his uncle playfully tossed him in the air, and dislocated his
shoulder and had to go to the hospital so that the doctor could put his shoulder back
in place. Then, when he was 6 years old, while playing tag he ran under a bridge
which while he was running under it, a wooden plank fell on his head, and cracked
his skull open, and he started bleeding a lot, but he wasn t taken to the hospital.
Another memorable incident for him that wasn t an injury, was when he was 12

Poor Matriculation Results in South Africa
Poor educational standards and Matriculation results in South Africa A Case Study
Introduction
Poor educational standard is an issue which has been discussing globally.
Matriculation is an important stage in the educational life of a student. The reason
being it is a turning point or point of departure to different destinations. So utmost
guidance and care must be given to students who are on that stage to get the desired
outcome. Here the researcher is trying to analyse the various reasons behind the poor
performance of learners. The researcher has decided to limit the study to South
African matric examination. So the problem is what are the factors contributing to
poor educational standards and matriculation results in South Africa? ... Show more

It is crystal clear that there are disparities in the quality of education that township
and former model C schools receive. Many well off pupils attend former Model C
schools, which are still well resourced. Conversely, the majority of poor pupils
attend poorly resourced township and rural schools, which are not capable of
providing education to a satisfactory standard. The Sunday Times released a survey
in late 2009 revealing the Top 100 schools in the country. More than 90 of these were
former Model C schools. It is likely that South Africa s former Model C schools are
responsible for the majority of the country s university entrants. The Minister of Basic
Education, Angie Motshekga, was correct in her statement.
Process
Based on the factors discussed above, there are numerous factors contributing to the
poor educational standards and matriculation results. Some drastic actions are needed
to eliminate or reduce the effect of these negativities. So, the recent review of the
New Curriculum Statement (NCS) suggested that some early steps that should be
taken. * The report highlighted textbooks as a major contributory factor and called
for the simplification of procurement and distribution policies, currently different in
each province. * They also urged English to be taught as an additional language
from Grade 1 (as current policy states) rather than Grade 3 (as seems to be common
Shoko Asahara Cult
At first, the religion of Shoko Asahara, Aum Shinrikyo, now the cult Aleph was not
the dangerous and threatening organization its image is associated to be now. In fact,
there was a time where Asahara and Aum Shinrikyo members had taken up an attitude
similar to that of a humble missionary. However, the Aum Shinrikyofaith, as well as
Asahara, had been obsessed with some of the philosophies of the Bible, the Book of
Revelation in particular, and had an unfortunate turnaround, which resulted in the
religion s currently bad reputation. This cult is a perfect example to show what Paul
meant when he said that false christs pretend to be holy servants of God. Originally
named Chizuo Matsumoto, Shoko Asahara was one of seven children and... Show

The religion also holds the claim that Asahara is the only person to have attained the
highest level of consciousness and that he is in the state of Nirvana; Asahara even
claimed to be Christ. Tibetan beliefs of extrasensory experiences are also included in
the Aum Shinrikyo faith, with clairvoyance, levitation, and the ability to see through
walls being some of these extrasensory abilities that Asahara promoted and claimed
to have (news.bbc.co.uk; fas.org). According to John Pike, the Aum Shinrikyo faith
strongly promoted Shiva, the god of destruction, and thus put a particular emphasis
on Armageddon, or the end of the world. Asahara claimed salvation from this
destruction for those who reached higher levels of consciousness by going through
him, the Supreme Master ; their reincarnated states would hold a special status
amongst others. Apparently, this Armageddon was going to involve a third world
war in 1997 that would be initiated between Japan and the United States; one
supposed goal of Aum Shinrikyo was their involved their salvation activities during
this time and the revival of the Japanese nation after the collapse of their country.
Members of Aum Shinrikyo were also very anti Semitic, and put part of the blame
for this onto the Jews (fas.org). Putting the skeptical claims of extrasensory
experiences aside for now, the beliefs of Aum Shinrikyo concerning the Bible,
Jonathan Kozol The Shame Of The Nation Analysis
Award winning writer and public lecturer, Jonathan Kozol wrote an essay that was
published in Harper s Magazine and was also adapted from his book, The Shame of
the Nation: The Restoration of Apartheid Schooling in America. This essay
essentially discusses the injustice of the school systems and how predominately white
districts thrive while African Americandistricts are left without basic needs.
Kozol uses of New York City as an example of the unfair financial inconsistencies
towards specific counties or cities in the state. The author argues, the gross
discrepancies in teacher salaries between the city and its affluent white suburbs have
remained persistent (354). He continues his argument stating that the median salary
for teachers in an African American community in 1997 was $43,000 while in
suburban white communities the salary was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, at the opposite extreme along the economic spectrum in New York are
numerous children who receive no special opportunities of superb schooling
programs simply because they are not as financially fortunate as their white
counterparts (Kozol 354 355). To reason with this iniquitous reality, Kozol quotes
Marian Warner, a novelist who has written several books for children, stating, There
are expensive children and there are cheap children, just as there are expensive
women and cheap women (354). Kozol continues by explaining that governmentally
administered degradation in the value of children in poor communities fundamentally
begins before the age of five, which would be when they would start their years in
formal education in public education. In actuality, in begins during infancy, when a
populous amount of children are born into poor districts and are locked out of the
opportunities privileged children are
An Analysis Of Nevermind s Cover Art
Nevermind s cover art was one such political statement, a clear expression of disgust
towards capitalism. (Bickerdike, 2014)
Never mind the English idiom don t judge a book by its cover . As a consumerist
society, we tend to instinctively make assumptions based on initial appearance. Since
the invention on the LP back in 1948, the recording industry adapted the concept of
the cover art as to visually represent the artists and music. Music albums across the
world are sold inside universal sleeves branded with a particular image allowing the
work to be instantly recognisable amongst all others. The cover art of Nirvana s
1991 release Nevermind has prevailed to be one of the most recognizable album
covers of all time. The image reflects the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word Nirvana is written in bold and formal capital letters and is underlined.
This could connote a sense of seriousness while communicating WE ARE
NIRVANA. THIS IS OUR ALBUM. THIS IS OUR MESSAGE. Sitting underneath
the bold band name, the never mind font is slightly warped. The warped font can
connote with feeling of being submerged underwater, further linking with cover art s
intended ideology. Observing the two words together could interpret a deeper
meaning. The meaning of the world nirvana according to an online dictionary is
defined as a place or state characterized by freedom from or oblivion to pain, worry,
and the external world. (Dictionary.com) The word never mind dismisses the literal
meaning on the world and the warped font illustrates nirvana as a distorted reality,
further implying the message behind the art s political

A Report On The Night
Everyone sleeps at certain times. Chicago s imminent seeming glow from the
lights is starting to flicker and dim. Windows turn off, second by second. The
window cleaning personnel raise themselves up on their scaffolds to start their
nightly work; cleaning each window of Willis Tower, home of the Skydeck. An
ABC News helicopter flies by with four passengers aboard. I am one of those
passengers a news reporter, reporting a standstill traffic jam. To imagine myself as
just a maraca shaped dot in the sky is above my, so to say, Imagination limit. Three,
two, one, on air. The televisor hands me the script and works with his filming duties.

I was excited I got my internet back after two weeks of doing enormous amounts of
work on the laptops at school; and they were not easy to type on. It was not much
of a surprise that I would think of that first. I do play my games every day, but I got
cold, so I went to get some hot cocoa from the kitchen. I walked to the kitchen, and
saw a bowl with buttered popcorn filled halfway to the top. I picked up a hot
chocolate mix packet labeled Swiss Miss Open here. I ripped it open and some
coffee brown dust flew out of the top. I grabbed a mug and poured all of the
contents in the mug. I set the microwave for one minute and thirty seconds. I didn t
think even how much time I set the microwave to because I dashed from my
laptop. Once I logged onto my computer, I smelled a heavy stench of smoke, and it
was not by a cigarette being lit. I rushed back to the kitchen and there was the
microwave, but I could not see it. Flames engulfed the microwave in mere seconds.
I tried to cease the flame with water but it didn t touch it. Time froze at that single
moment, and so did my mind. I couldn t think, I couldn t talk, I couldn t even
move. The water fell beside the fire, not even inching toward it. I woke up my mom
as soon as possible and tried to get out everyone else but I was trapped. I was
cornered and my only way is no possible way. I was staring off into space. The
constant, obnoxious beeping of the microwave rung in my head like a
Community Pool Research Paper
Imagine it s 100 degrees outside and there is nothing to do, and you just wish there
was a way to cool down. You don t want to use an AC, or a fan because you want to
be outside and do something productive. This is why a community pool is needed
in Eldred, kids will want something to do when it s hot outside, but there is nothing
to do since it s so hot out. Pools can solve the problem because they cool you off
fast and can be relaxing. An hour of swimming can burn up to 650 calories, also
swimming is the most popular recreational activity for children and teens ages 7 to
17, and is also the 4th most popular sport or activity in the U.S., swimming is also a
great way to relieve stress too.

There could be fundraisers to help fund the pool, like sales, or sell early
memberships to people for cheaper. There could be people to volunteer for helping
with the construction. The local fire hall could use the water they have to help fill
the pool after the construction is finished. There could also be a fee to get in to
help pay for the pool and supplies for it, because many supplies are needed for
pools, which is where fundraisers will have hopefully made enough money to buy
supplies to last a while. With the whole membership thing, you get to get in for free
but you pay a certain amount depending how many times you go in, but you don t
pay full price like people without the membership would, you would get like fifty
percent off, but you don t pay it on the spot, you pay it every few
Bob Marley, Reggae Artist And Icon
Bob Marley is a world renowned reggae artist and icon that uses his musical genius
to shed light on the social injustices of the effective working class people around the
world. Bob Marley s distinguishing characteristics in his songs resulted in his
success, especially love and openly political songs. Another distinguishing
characteristic of Marley is that the Rastafarian religion and the political roots in
which it came from to guide the music and lyrics.
The music genre Reggae was popularized in Jamaica in the late 1960 s. Although
today reggae is more generalized to Jamaican dance music. According to the article
Local and Foreign: The Popular Music Culture of Kingston, Jamaica, before Ska,
Rock Steady, and Reggae by Robert Witmer in actuality, reggae was influenced by
traditional mento and calypso music. American popular music at the time was even
added such as American jazz, rhythm and blues. Soon evolved out of the earlier
genres of ska and rocksteady. In terms of style, reggae has a very unique style that
includes elements of jazz, blues, mento, calypso, and African music, which resulted
in the positive reception of the music worldwide. (1) The most important element of
reggae is the offbeat rhythm created by a piano or guitar and sometimes the
combination of both. The reggae genre has a slow tempo that gives the music a
relaxing rhythm heartening it back, once again, to its island roots.
The most prominent and important instrument in reggae is the bass. It holds a
Comparison Between the Analects and Confessions Essay
Comparison between the Analects and Confessions
Both St. Augustine s Confessions and Confucius s Analects are important teachings
that have great influence on people around the world in the ancient time and
nowadays. Both doctrines discuss ethical values of the society back in the time as we
can find some similarities between the two. However, there are significant differences
between Confucius and St. Augustine s experiences and believes since they are living
in different environment at time period. Their profound differences are the factors
that contributed to shape the distinct cultures between the West and the East today.

Augustine openly criticized his family s wrong because God was his heart and the
only truth (II, 5).
Another difference between Analects and Confessions is the different believes
about one s self and the Truth. Confucius believed that the Truth of life, ren, was
the virtue and benevolence of human; while St. Augustine believed that God is the
Truth, the heart of goodness (Confessions, II, 5). In the teachings of Confucius,
Analects, there was no specific God; Confucius focuses on the men himself and as
his character develops within the society, as He believed that it is Man who
capable of broadening the Way (Analects, XV, 29). Confucius believed in the
importance of rites and ceremonies. A gentleman according to Confucius should be
aware of his action and be thoughtful. For example, he should avoid a certain colors
and materials for clothes on different occasions (X, 6), or he should not sit when his
mat was not straight (X, 12). On contrary, St. Augustine believed that one should
only be obedient to God since He was the only Truth. St. Augustine, as other
Christians, believed that God created this world and created men with his image, so
that men must look up to God, turn to him for forgiveness; He then would protect
His people, and they would no longer suffer (Confessions, IV, 31).
Although there are differences between the Analects and Confessions, they have a
common belief in treating others in the society; both teach people

Essay On Personal Goals. Professional Short-Term Goals in Nursing Essay Example Topics and ...

  • 1. Essay On Personal Goals Writing an essay on the topic of personal goals can be both challenging and introspective. The difficulty lies in the need to articulate one's aspirations, ambitions, and the steps to achieve them in a coherent and compelling manner. It requires a delicate balance between self-reflection and effective communication. Firstly, delving into one's personal goals necessitates a thorough examination of one's values, passions, and long-term objectives. It requires a deep understanding of oneself, which can be a daunting task as it involves introspection and self-analysis. Choosing the right goals to highlight and discuss is crucial, as it sets the tone for the entire essay. Crafting the essay itself poses its own set of challenges. One must convey their thoughts in a clear and organized manner, ensuring that the essay has a logical flow. Developing a strong introduction that captures the reader's attention, followed by well-structured body paragraphs that delve into specific goals and the motivation behind them, demands careful planning and attention to detail. Moreover, maintaining a balance between humility and confidence is vital. While the essay should showcase personal achievements and ambitions, it is equally important to acknowledge challenges and areas for growth. Striking this balance requires finesse, as the essay should come across as genuine and self-aware rather than boastful or overly self-critical. Additionally, the task involves expressing oneself eloquently. Finding the right words to convey emotions, determination, and the essence of personal goals requires a mastery of language. The essay must engage the reader and evoke a sense of connection, prompting them to empathize with the writer's journey and aspirations. In conclusion, writing an essay on personal goals is a demanding task that requires self- reflection, effective communication skills, and a keen understanding of the audience. It is an opportunity for individuals to articulate their dreams and ambitions, making the process both challenging and rewarding. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any other writing tasks, various services are available, such as HelpWriting.net, where professional writers can provide support in crafting compelling and personalized essays tailored to individual goals and aspirations. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Managing Casinos Undoubtedly, casino industry is one of the profitable industries in the United States. Setting up a casino with a huge investment may be easier. However, management of casinos requires much groundwork for the casino managers. Traditional way of running the casino is no longer viable in the current scenario. The days have gone when casino meant only a few slot machines for people s entertainment. Tough competition in the casino industry made the task of casino managers more complex. The first important step in casino management is finding efficient personnel. They are responsible to manage the daily operations of casino. The manager must be smart, skillful, intelligent and alert. It has been noticed that one manager run several casinos in an area. The obvious reason is the difficult in finding efficient professionals. Space is a major factor in the casinos. Floor space should be enough for gaming and other actions. There are some casinos that have more than 60,000 square feet floors. Caesars Atlantic City provides a 124,720 square foot casino floor space, which is one of the largest gaming areas in Atlantic City. The Harrah s Atlantic City casino is spread over an 112,918 square feet area (Hashimoto, et al, 310).
  • 3. People Kill People During The Holocaust Over 11 million people were killed during the Holocaust. The way they were killed was terrible and wrong. Not only would the SS kill people, they would also separate families from each other. One man was the man responsible for all of this. He was the most important figure in the holocaust because without him, there wouldn t have been one. While reading the book NIGHT I learned a lot about the Holocaust that I never even thought could happen. Such as all the ways they were killing people, how they would separate people from their families, and how cruel the camps actually were. I knew that jewish people were getting killed but I only thought they were shot. While reading, I found out they were also burned, worked to death, suffocated, beat

A World Bank Failure This paper explores the World Bank s support for the construction of the Nam Theun 2 Dam, located in the Lao People s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), in Southeast Asia. The problems created by this project are examined along with the question of whether or not international financial institutions (IFI), such as the World Bank (herein after referred to as the Bank ) are able to provide assistance in an objective, unbiased and responsible manner. Nam Theun 2 Dam Project Overview Completed in 2010, the Nam Theun 2 Dam (herein after referred to as NT2 ), is a 1070 Megawatt hydroelectric dam located on the Nam Theun River in central Lao PDR. Tokyo based Mekong Watch, a non governmental organization (NGO), estimates NT2 s cost at US$1.45 billion, one of the largest public works projects in Lao PDR s history. The dam flooded a 450 square kilometer area, creating the Nakai Plateau reservoir. A principle component of the project included selling ninety to ninety five percent of NT2 s electrical power to neighboring Thailand (2013). Project Goals In 2006, The World Bank Groups Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), reported that the average daily income of Lao PDR citizens was less than US$1, lower in rural areas, and that limited options existed for generating income. At that time, MIGA projected that the NT2 would generate close to US$1.9 billion in foreign exchange earnings over the dam s twenty five year lifespan (through the export of

It is with this introduction to water resource management that direct reference to the Australian Drinking WaterGuidelines (ADWG) is made to substantiate the severity of consequences related to misuse of water treatment plant. It is noted that the ADWG is not a mandatory set of standards, though it does provide the guiding principles defined by the Australian Federal Government to issue high quality water for personal use, i.e. drinking (ADWG, 2013). The guide considers the monitoring of water and the systematic approach worth following to ensure the water entering the plant can be measured for quality on a basis of different variables so as to determine the effectiveness of plant items used in the reverse osmosis system and hence the quality of the output water. The reverse osmosis system utilised has been designed as a result of theoretical capacity and works at varying levels of water input and output. It is important to manage the system so the resulting water quality of water leaving the system is useable for the different purposes that it may be used for, such as drinking water, agricultural, plant cooling and cleaning and dissipation into existing natural waterways. As well as the Australian Federal Government
  • 6. The Molly Maguires Who were the Molly Maguires? Did they really exist? These are questions asked by many people today. Some historians wonder if the Molly Maguires really did bring their secret society from England to the United States, or if the incidents blamed on them were just random accidents on which officials needed to place a blame. We may never actually know... There are many ideas about how the Molly Maguires got their name. One of the most popular is that Molly was a poor widow, who was evicted from her home after the landlord s agent apparently, severely abused her and her daughter . The group adopted this name in homage to the Molly and her bravery. Another theory is that Molly s home was used as the first meeting place of this new secret... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These crimes were then blamed on the Mollies in order to, hopefully, suppress their extreme resistance. Many mine owners intimidated miners into complying with what they wanted by maiming and murdering those suspected of union activism. The trials for those who were believed to be involved with the Molly Maguires were merely protocol. Society, the government, and the Catholic Church had already convicted them. The man who acted as the state prosecutor in some of the cases is quoted to have said, The name of a Molly Maguire being attached to a man s name is sufficient to hang him . In many of the trials, the evidence was circumstantial at best and the witnesses were supplying obviously false information. According to information recently gathered by historians, the men charged were by no means absolutely guilty, although it cannot be proved they were completely innocent. Throughout labor history, there were many strike, as well as many acts of violence committed by both the miners and the mine owners and bosses. Interestingly enough, none of this history is taught in many schools across the country. In A History of the United States , a tenth grade history textbook, there is only one paragraph stating: Miners in the eastern Pennsylvania coal fields organized a secret
  • 7. Suffering and Identity in Donne and Wit One s identity may be questioned when suffering; ultimately suffering is what creates one s sense of self or what destroys it. The poetry of John Donne and the play W;t, 1993, by Margaret Edson, both illustrate and explore a sense of suffering and identity. In John Donne s poetry, suffering, both emotionally and physically allows the speaker to understand their identity in more depth, in comparison to Margaret Edson s play, W;t, Vivian s suffering leads her identity to be stripped away. In Donne s sonnet, If poysonous mineralls we are shown suffering religiously and emotionally, through one s sin s, questioning god s justice, which leads to a realisation of one s identity. He describes his body as a map, a metaphor for his life being a journey, which his doctors attempt to read in order to discover his illness and his suffering and ultimately where his journey ends. In reference to Cartography, Donne refers to bearings, using the imagery of a map to point out that what we see on the western edge of a flat map is also to be found on the eastern edge, showing that he believes life and death are connected to each other. In the final stanza, Donne feels joy at the though of death as he feels he will recover his identity by reuniting with the lord. In the final stanza, he returns to the idea of the first stanza, summing up the poem s central message with the use of a paradox. Therefore that he may raise the Lord throws down. This paradox shows that to rise up to heaven, one must be thrown down by death, so therefore one must suffer to be accepted and united in a place where one s identity is established. His extreme suffering has purged and prepared him for paradise. Vivian s physical suffering is caused by her illness, which slowly deteriorates her identity. As time progresses, cancer slowly cause s her to suffer physically, and therefore inverts her powerful identity. On page 25, Vivian s body is clinically deconstructed, the

  • 9. Jane Austen s Pride And Prejudice Benjamin Disraeliance once said, Characters do not change. Opinions alter, but characters are only developed . This quote exemplifies that viewpoints can always have a sudden shift at any point of time, but a persons moral qualities must be established over time. In Jane Austen s novel, Pride and PrejudiceElizabeth Bennet is the main character who is a lady in the Regency Era. Elizabeth lives in Longbourn with her parents, Mr and Mrs Bennet and her four sisters. Elizabeth indicates that she has the least intention of dancing with Darcy unravels how Elizabeth does what most women would have never done, deny a dance. Additionally, Elizabeth clarifies that she does not move closer to beg for a partner . This proves that she is fine with being alone and not dancing, unlike most women of the 19th Century. She also illustrates how women s minds work around men that appeal to them. By stating how a lady s imagination is very rapid it clarifies that she understands that ladies fantasize about a future that may never occur. Elizabeth discusses three stages of the imagination . She first states admiration meaning once a lady finds a characteristics that pleases them, such as wealth, they instantly go to the second stage which is to fall in love. After being in love for a short time frame, the lady wants to transition to matrimony which is getting married. These three steps occur is a short period of time, which is not what Elizabeth wants to involve herself in. This provides how Elizabeth does not believe in the common view of love being about wealth, because she feels as if it is not a clear, absolute feeling since it is rushed since she values the true definition of love being, an intense feeling of deep affection . In summary, Austen
  • 10. Moses And The Ten Plagues MOSES AND THE TEN PLAGUES In the story of Moses and the Ten Plagues which stretches from Exodus 7 12, God begins with pure lies. First, God says to Moses and the elders of Israel to say to the king of Egypt, The LORD God of the Hebrews has met with us and now let us go, we beseech you, three days journey into the wilderness that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God (3:18). This is a lie because what God is actually trying to do is find a way to get the Israelitesout of Egypt permanently and as quickly as possible, not just for a three day religious retreat. • 11. Humanitarian Intervention Does Not Become A Smokescreen... ensure humanitarian intervention does not become a smokescreen for bullies (Weiss, 2004: 142). This is precisely what the ICISS has achieved with its report Responsibility to Protect. As has been echoed in this essay the ICISS focuses on the notion that with sovereignty comes responsibility, specifically the responsibility to protect human rights (Evans et al., 2001: 12). Thus, it is primarily the duty of the state to uphold human rights. However, Where a population is suffering serious harm, as a result of internal war, insurgency, repression or state failure, and the state in question is unwilling or unable to halt or avert it, the principle of non intervention yields to the international responsibility to protect (Evans et al., 2001: XI). It is here were the emphasis is drawn to those who need the intervention rather than the nation intervening (Weiss, 2004: 138). This is important, as intervention is no longer a right of the intervening state (i.e. in so far as they can exploit the situation) but rather a responsibility of states to protect those most vulnerable, hence the shift from the terminology of intervention to responsibility . What this framework consequently does is make the correct weigh up between sovereignty and human rights by creating a connection between the two (Sarkin, 2008: 52). Moreover, this allows for real and effective action to be undertaken for those who require it. It accomplishes this by a precise framework for both the criteria for

  • 14. Moore Vs Hlobo This essay will explore the contrasts and similarities that can be taken from two drawings. Henry Moore s, Standing figures of 1940 and Nicholas Hlobo s, Macaleni Iintozomlambo of 2010. It will discuss the comparisons that can be made about the colour schemes, composition and subject matter of the pieces. This will also include an evaluation of how the time scales and influences of the period have affected the final outcomes of the two artists. The two pieces actually share many more similarities than first hits the eye after deconstructing all of the components listed. Henry Moore is typically renowned for the many sculptures mused by the human form, typically the female form. He began his artistic venture in 1919 where he attended Leeds School of art, here he met Barbra Hepworth and was inspired greatly by her. He then received many scholarships leading to the opportunity to travel around the world, it was early Mexican and Aztec that mostly inspired his work. More specifically, Important ecological and economic functions of seagrass beds have been widely acknowledged, notably their importance to fisheries and their role in preventing coastal erosion and siltation of coral reefs (Erftemeijer and Lewis. 2006). Coral reefs are already disappearing at astonishing rates and siltation is even more detrimental to their survival. Since the number of acres of seagrass off the coast of Florida has decreased significantly in the past 65 years, it is especially concerning that Johnson s seagrass reproduces asexually because The plant has a reduced capacity to repopulate an area if lost due to human or environmental perturbations (Johnson s Seagrass Recovery Team, 12). The objective of this research is to determine whether or not Johnson s seagrass endangerment is correlated to the amount of detrimental pollutants that humans are putting in aquatic ecosystems such as excess nitrates and oil from dredging. The critical prediction in this experiment is that as the concentration of a pollutant in the water Johnson s seagrass grows in increases, the amount of growth decreases over time. The dry weight of the plant over time would decrease when grown in polluted water when comparing the dry weight of the plant when grown in clean water. The Flint River located in western Georgia is quite unpolluted and will be fit to reproduce these clean water conditions in the laboratory.

In this stage, children cannot use developmental capacities systematically. They are quite egocentric,
  • 18. Comparing The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Sumerian Flood The seemingly similar flood stories of the Sumerians, found in The Epic of Gilgamesh, and of the Israelites, described in Genesis, portray the power that the deities had over the creatures of Earth and their abilities to determine the existence of mankind to their liking, whether or not the reason is sensible. Mesopotamian culture believed that the gods created mankind to do their bidding on earth and to provide for them. As opposed to the Sumerians sole reason for mankind, there are many implications as to why the Israelites Godcreated man. Some say God created man as a part of his eternal plan to lead man to eternal life; others believe that man is a part of God s plan to defeat evil and by putting faith in God, Satan can be defeated.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Epic of Gilgamesh describes the livid flame from the torches of the judges of hell and Enlil smashing the land like a cup. This flood was an extremely violent event that lasted six days and nights. In the end, the gods seemed to rejoice about a surviving human as he offers them a sacrifice. Ishtar denies Enlil of the sacrifice because this ordeal was mainly his doing and Ea, in short, says that when man sins, he should not be punished too hard. The value of man to the Sumerian gods seems greater than the value of man to the Israelites God. Man was created in Mesopotamia to serve the gods and provide for the gods through offerings; Enlil s irresponsibility almost cost the gods everything. Man s relationship to God is more of a familial one, where man finds comfort in Him and mankind is God s children. Despite this amorous relationship, the flood in Genesis carried on exceedingly longer than that of the Sumerian s, lasting one hundred and fifty days, but this detail is more or less looked over because the positive relationship is then reinforced when God promises Noah that never again will all life be cut off... never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth... to destroy all

Each group has control over only a part of the supply chain, but each group can influence the entire chain by ordering too much or too little. Further, each group is influenced by decisions that others are making. This lack of coordination coupled with the ability to influence while being influenced by others leads to what Stanford s Hau Lee refers to as the Bullwhip Effect. It refers to the effect that the amount of periodical orders amplifies as one moves upstream in the supply chain towards the production end. Even in the face of stable customer demand small variations in demand at the retail end tend to dramatically amplify upstream the supply chain with the effect that order amounts are very erratic, and can be very high in one week and almost zero in the next

  • 24. Agency Theory Essay QUESTION 1 (i) AGENCY COSTS IN DEBT CONTRACTING The agency theory examines the relationship between the principle and agent under the assumption that that individuals act in their own self interest in order to maximise their personal wealth. This conflict of interest creates agency costs that are borne by the principle. The agency problem is apparent in debt contacting relationships where the firm is assumed to be acting in the interests of its shareholders when borrowing money from the debt holders. Agency costs are incurred by the debt holder when a firm engages in opportunistic behaviours in an attempt to expropriate wealth away from its debt holder. As a result, the debt holder faces an increased risk of lending the funds to the firm. There are four common opportunistic actions that firm can take in order to expropriate wealth from its debt holder PAY EXCESSIVE DIVIDENDS Black (as cited in Smith and Warner, 1979) states that there is no easier way for a company to escape the burden of debt than to pay out all of its assets in the form of dividend, and leave the creditors holding an empty shell . In this situation, the firm promises the debt holder to maintain a consistent dividend policy at the time of borrowing funds but later increases the rate of dividends. According to Smith and Warner (1979), the increase in dividend policy reduces the value of the debt and ultimately, increases the risk to the debt holders. The firm is being opportunistic because debt holders

They are full of savagery, plane crashes, racial issues, child abuse, and perseverance. All three novels connect by how tenacious people are when they are required to overcome adversity. In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, there is a plane crash which abandoned a large amount of boys with no parental guidance on an island stranded. The cultural aftershock shown through the magnitude of published poetry and construction of a National Monument, and how the Battle of Vimy Ridge is taught in English Canadian secondary education systems will divulge an analyse of Vimy Ridge as an active part of the English Canadian imagined community s myth symbol complex ninety years after its conception. Although among Allied powers, the Battle of Vimy Ridge remains only a part of the much larger British offensive, the Battle of Arras. For Canadians, however, Vimy is perpetuated through Canadian history as the birthplace of English Canadian nationhood from a time when it lacked a strong global presence on the international stage. Before an examination of the perpetuation of Vimy as a national myth within Canadian society can occur, the term myth itself must be clarified. Myth will neither be viewed as a pejorative or positive term, nor as quaint stories or falsehoods. However, while we had many benefits of adopting democracy and joining the international institution, one part of the population quickly started theft of ex government companies; bribery and corruption were rampant within the new democratic ruling class. What would the nation do if Florence Nightingale did not notice the unsanitary conditions of the military hospitals? The uncleanliness of the hospitals would kill the patients before the diseases do. Nightingale left an impact on the history of nursing. Nightingale s strong values influence the future nurses of today (Stichler, 2014). Florence Nightingale was the founder for nursing. Even though Nightingale s family was against the career of nursing, she pursued her passion of learning to care for the ill. She strived to help the people sick and in need. Nightingale showed her caring heart when she helped cure soldiers during the Crimean War. She showed her compassion as she helped the wounded soldiers from the battlefield. Potential Therapeutics For Treating Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Bromophenols have been identified as potential therapeutics for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) due to their suspected tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) inhibitory activity. A new series of bromophenol analogues will be synthesised and their PTP1B inhibitory activity will be tested in in vitro enzymatic assays to elucidate their mechanism of action as PTP1B inhibitors. Background and Introduction Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic disease that is caused by insulin resistance of the peripheral tissues and impaired insulin secretion of the pancreatic ОІ cells.1 Both conditions result in reduced glycemic control, which can lead to hyperglycemia. Despite the availability of a wide range of anti diabetic drugs to treat T2DM, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bromophenols have attracted much attention as potential PTP1B inhibitors due to their suspected anti diabetic activity.4 Bromophenols occur naturally in marine organisms such as algae, mollusks and jellyfish. (В±) Polysiphenol (1, figure 1) is an example of a bromophenol that can be extracted from the marine algae Polisiphonia Ferulecea.5 After the Braddock group successfully achieved the first total synthesis of (В±) polysiphenol and the separation of its enantiomers, they collaborated with the Woscholski group to test their inhibitory activity in PTP1B enzymatic assays.6,7 Both enantiomers of polysiphenol were essentially found to be identical in PTP1B inhibitory activity. Thus polysiphenol, as single enantiomers, cannot be responsible for the observed inhibition. This implicates a chemical change of polysiphenol into a non chiral form is likely to take place under the conditions of the assay. One possibility is the formation of a para quinone methide species (4, figure 1), which in turn can tautomerise into an ortho quinone methide species (5, figure 1). Thus there are various possible reactive species that might be responsible for the observed inhibition of PTP1B. The formation of quinones highlights a red flag in drug discovery due to their highly reactive nature. Quinones are Michael acceptors that are known to cause toxicity in vivo by covalently binding to nucleophilic sites on proteins and DNA.8 Consequently, quinones

Matriculation is an important stage in the educational life of a student. The reason being it is a turning point or point of departure to different destinations. So utmost guidance and care must be given to students who are on that stage to get the desired outcome. Here the researcher is trying to analyse the various reasons behind the poor performance of learners. The researcher has decided to limit the study to South African matric examination. So the problem is what are the factors contributing to poor educational standards and matriculation results in South Africa? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is crystal clear that there are disparities in the quality of education that township and former model C schools receive. Many well off pupils attend former Model C schools, which are still well resourced. Conversely, the majority of poor pupils attend poorly resourced township and rural schools, which are not capable of providing education to a satisfactory standard. The Sunday Times released a survey in late 2009 revealing the Top 100 schools in the country. More than 90 of these were former Model C schools. It is likely that South Africa s former Model C schools are responsible for the majority of the country s university entrants. The Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, was correct in her statement. Process Based on the factors discussed above, there are numerous factors contributing to the poor educational standards and matriculation results. Some drastic actions are needed to eliminate or reduce the effect of these negativities. So, the recent review of the New Curriculum Statement (NCS) suggested that some early steps that should be taken. * The report highlighted textbooks as a major contributory factor and called for the simplification of procurement and distribution policies, currently different in each province. * They also urged English to be taught as an additional language from Grade 1 (as current policy states) rather than Grade 3 (as seems to be common

Asahara claimed salvation from this destruction for those who reached higher levels of consciousness by going through him, the Supreme Master ; their reincarnated states would hold a special status amongst others. Apparently, this Armageddon was going to involve a third world war in 1997 that would be initiated between Japan and the United States; one supposed goal of Aum Shinrikyo was their involved their salvation activities during this time and the revival of the Japanese nation after the collapse of their country. However, there are significant differences between Confucius and St. Augustine s experiences and believes since they are living in different environment at time period. Augustine openly criticized his family s wrong because God was his heart and the only truth (II, 5). Another difference between Analects and Confessions is the different believes about one s self and the Truth. Confucius believed that the Truth of life, ren, was the virtue and benevolence of human; while St. Augustine believed that God is the Truth, the heart of goodness (Confessions, II, 5). In the teachings of Confucius, Analects, there was no specific God; Confucius focuses on the men himself and as his character develops within the society, as He believed that it is Man who capable of broadening the Way (Analects, XV, 29). Confucius believed in the importance of rites and ceremonies. A gentleman according to Confucius should be aware of his action and be thoughtful. For example, he should avoid a certain colors and materials for clothes on different occasions (X, 6), or he should not sit when his mat was not straight (X, 12). On contrary, St. Augustine believed that one should only be obedient to God since He was the only Truth. St. Augustine, as other Christians, believed that God created this world and created men with his image, so that men must look up to God, turn to him for forgiveness; He then would protect His people, and they would no longer suffer (Confessions, IV, 31). Although there are differences between the Analects and Confessions, they have a common belief in treating others in the society; both teach people
