Compare and contrast Ben Jonson’s †The Alchemist’

The study will encompass the compare and contrast of two great writers literary works. It will take
comprehensive discussion on Ben Jonson s The Alchemist and William Shakespeare s The Tempest
. Jonson and Shakespeare were contemporaries with more immediately recognizable common
ground between them than difference. They shared the same profession and brought forth their
works from the matrix of common intellectual property. They appealed to the same audience and
both gained popularity and esteem as accomplished playwrights. At the more social level, they were
both struggling artists conscious of the need for patronage and support from their wealthier and
more powerful peers. Both Jonson and Shakespeare experienced the trials and... Show more content

The distinction between I and him is emphasized by Jonson s assertion of an answer to
Shakespeare s way of doing things. The quest for self knowledge has been integral to the
structures and evolution of human society throughout history. During the early modem period,
the classical maxim of nosce teipsum operated almost universally, not only as a prompt towards,
but also as a goal of, both individual and communal achievement and actualization. At one level,
Hamlet s tribute may be taken as an adumbration of the Renaissance engagement with the
epistemological enquiries into the nature of man, and his place and function in the cosmic chain
of being. What a piece of work is a man, How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty, in form and
moving how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god
the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals. And yet to me what is this quintessence of dust?
Jonson explicitly bases their sense of the play s similarity upon theories of comedy that imply such
affirmation. In Volpone and The Alchemist, Jonson sues irony to expose how far short of the ideal
is the world of the play, and thus celebrates the ideal indirectly. If the

Essay The Laramie Project Critique
The Laramie Project Critique *No Works Cited The Laramie project captured the audience s
attention by utilizing different design methods on stage. This included sound, stage and hand
properties, light, and music. With an ensemble of 10 actors playing over 30 roles, this proved to be
an amazing play to experience. The playwright was constructed in a clear manner, which eliminated
the confusion of who is who. Through the usage of the stage elements as well as the dynamics of
each character, this brought about an effective plot. The first element that made the play dramatic
was the sound effects. The sound of the Wyoming wind was constant throughout the whole play, but
as emotional scenes and climaxes occurred, the sound of wind... Show more content on

The set was designed in a way that was very versatile and yet, still convey a serious message. By
versatile, I am implying that the open stage with two ramps crossing each other in the
background was plain and simple but served a purpose of several scenes such as a bar, church,
and even a funeral. A set prop that were a key pieces in the play were the wooden benches, these
made it possible for the actors to switch scenes. Some examples on the usage of the benches were
when they stacked two benches one on top of another and turned it into a bar, they turned the
bench in a vertical position and created a podiums to express different religions, or setting the
benches in a close and aligned design to create a church. Other props that influenced the scenes
were snow, umbrellas, then using the umbrellas as angel wings, and of course lighting. Instead of
building entire sets, or making the audience use their imagination with no props included in the
play, the set designers and directors created visuals that were ordinary objects and interacted the
audience to use their imagination and build the appropriate set for the scene in their minds. I
believe by keeping a low budget, the designers of The Laramie Project accomplished a bigger
impact on the audience with a simple low budget set rather than an expensive big fancy set. Props
and sound effects were not the only major influences for this greatly constructed play, but also the

Counseling Reflection
Introduction The purpose of this reaction paper is to introduce the reader to my early perceptions
of my own personal style and theory of counseling. At this early stage in my training, I would
attest to the fact that this is not as easy as it may sound, particularly when I am still being
acquainted with the multitude of counseling theories and style frameworks since the inception of
the counseling field. That said, since it is a necessity of this paper as required by this course in
Introduction to Counseling Techniques, I would venture to say that an eclectic approach would be
my early adopted framework. Obviously, since Carl Rogers person centered theoretical approach is
inherent in modern counseling techniques, it is an early part... Show more content on

On the other hand, a disadvantage of person centered therapy may be that it becomes an endless
back and forth between the same small, never changing ball of players; core conditions, actualizing
tendency, frame of reference, or locus of evaluation (Biles, 2016). In my estimation of what Biles
stipulated in the paraphrase above, he feels as though the core conditions of person centered therapy
(e.g. 1. Psychological contact; 2. Client incongruence, 3; Therapist congruence; 4. Therapist
unconditional positive regard; 5. Therapist empathy; and 6. Communication of 4. and 5.) are
somewhat artificial, dogmatic and insufficient (in isolation) for client change (Biles, 2016). In other
words, person centered theory implies that the techniques of other therapies are relatively
unimportant except to the extent they serve as channels for fulfilling the core therapeutic
conditions of person centered therapy (Biles, 2016). Rogers himself wrote a short paper in which he
proclaimed that his theory has often been seriously misunderstood. Essentially, reflecting on the
fact that people have turned the core conditions into shoulds or musts ; you should be empathetic,
or you must have unconditional positive regard. It is not as though you can tell yourself to be
empathetic and immediately be there. What Rogers said, if the core conditions exist, then change is

1. The Americas began as the New World , where European settlers arrived to the foreign land
carrying their beliefs, religion and philosophy. They called it the new beginning, despite Natives
already occupying the land. People from Europe hoped to move into the colonies in the Americas
for religious freedom and to better their lives through promises of more land, property, and
profitability. However, the settlers ignorance of the land and its environment led them to be faced
with many trials and tribulations upon their arrival, weakening the idea of the promising New
World . This did not deter the settlers, so, through the misfortunes, struggles of slavery, battle for

It wasn t the best settlement, but it was the first nonetheless. Jamestown s mortality rate was high
very because the colonists would often times catch diseases and hydrate themselves from
unhealthy water sources. It was a swampland after all. Starvation was a huge factor in their death
toll as well. Colonists would eat each other for survival as there were low food sources and they
couldn t grow much due to bad soil. By 1616, about eighty percent of the colonists that settled there
had died.
However, in 1619, the first slaves from Africa sat foot in the Jamestown, Virginia. Since
Jamestown was in a decaying state, changes needed to occur. Tobacco was a major crop to grow
but the colonists of Jamestown did not have enough man power to harvest it all. In order to
stabilize the economy, the Virginians required heavy labor. Slaves from Africa were sold as
indentured servants; person that worked for several years but then was granted freedom after their
servitude. Since the Virginians relied on the growth of corn for grain and tobacco to feed and fund
the growth of their population, the Europeans relied on the slave tactics from Africa in order
increase their efficiency in agriculture.
Although Europeans based their views on slavery from the Africans, the treatment of slaves in the
Americas were far worse than the treatment of slaves in Africa. Due to the fact that the Europeans
could not enslave the Native Americans due to their

Kristi Yamaguchi, the Jewel on Ice , is one of the best women ice skaters in the world (Donohue

tour the country to perform (57), good enough to win two medals at nationals (30), good enough
to make it to the winter Olympics (48), and good enough to overcome a disability to be who she
is today (12). This disability is known as clubfoot, and with correction devices, it can be fixed
(Healthwise). There are many important details about clubfoot. Clubfoot, also known as talipes
equinovarus, is a birth defect, which mean it is there when the baby is born (Frey). Clubfoot
causes pain because it makes the foot turn sideways and inward (Weatherford 175). This disease
makes the affected foot look like a club, hence the name clubfoot (176). With clubfoot, the foot
turns toward the other foot, and those who are affected appear to walk on their heels ( Famous
People ). Imagine having to walk on a thin calf and having a high heel, which are both causes of
talipes equinovarus (Frey). Each year one in every 1,000 babies born in the United States will be
born with clubfoot. There are also 150,000 200,000 people in the world that are affected with
clubfoot each year (Blue Sky Hosts). The main symptom for clubfoot is pain, although clubfoot is
harmless in babies. There are many remedies for talipes equinovarus including corrective shoes,

The True Cost Of Social Media Marketing
Everyone s heard the popular adage, There s no such thing as a free lunch, meaning it s
impossible to get something for nothing. In the same way, there s no such thing as free social
media. For years we ve heard that social media is free. While its true that there are no costs
associated to actually setting up your social media accounts, using it in an effective way is far
from being free. Social media has caused the biggest cultural shift in the way we communicate
since email. It has revolutionized advertising, branding, and professional networking for
businesses. More importantly, it changed the way businesses interact with clients, customers,
suppliers and others, giving new access like never seen before. By understanding the costs
involved, you will be able to appreciate just how important investing in social networking can be
for your business and why despite the costs, we think you should invest. This list will explain the
true cost of social media marketing! Cost #1: Planning Your first step is similar to developing a
marketing campaign you need to come up with an extensive plan and strategy. Don t join every
network just to be on social media a comprehensive strategy is a must! Every tweet, post, and
message should have a resounding key message and meaning. Next, evaluate your current staffing
resources and determine if anyone has time to take on the role, and ensure they have the capability,
otherwise, get quotes to outsource. Look for vendors that

The Voting Age In Voting
At first one may think that 16 and 17 year olds are just focused on dating, having fun, and playing
sports. Most would assume that they certainly aren t mature enough or know enough about
politics to vote. However, it is just the opposite, 16 and 17 year olds are in fact very qualified to
vote and they care about politics. The votingage should be lowered to allow 16 and 17 year olds to
vote. 16 and 17 year olds are just as capable as adults in voting, letting them vote would positively
affect the voting field in numerous ways, and they are faced many responsibilities similar to adults .
16 and 17 year olds are just as qualified to vote as adults are. According to the federal Voting
Rights Act of 1965, a 6th grade education is all that is required for an adult to vote (National Youth
Rights). The majority of 16 and 17 year olds have completed more than a 6th grade level of
education, so they certainly fit the education standards required for voting. Not only do 16 and
17 year olds tend to be more educated than 6th graders, it is also shown through research that a
16 year old has the same degree of civic knowledge as a 21 year old and that 16 and 17 year olds
poses a high enough intellectual level and maturity level to vote like adults (Vote16USA). Youth
are also getting smarter. A study conducted by Professor James Flynn shows that IQ scores have
gone up in youth. A child who was scored in the top 3% on an IQ test in 1932, would score in the
top 25% on the same test today

A Comparative Analysis Of Red Reiner s A Few Good Men
Painful Power A Comparative analysis of Red Reiner s A Few Good Men
It is interesting to see human behavior when put into a difficult situation that may force them to
harm others when they do not want to, but will anyways. It is human nature to always do what is
best for themselves and their safety, but people tend to harm others when they can shift the blame
off themselves for causing them harm. As for example the milgram experiment is a great example
showing people will cause harm under given command. This is not true for everyone, but for
most people it is. People will harm others, but kept telling the instructor that they want to stop.
The instructor told them they must keep on going, the first response would be I do not want to
blamed for hurting the person, soon as instructor took the responsibility then the they would
continue to cause pain. A movie that takes a closer look into this situation is A Few Good Men
directed by Red Reiner. Some of the main actors were Tom Cruise who played Lt. Daniel Kaffee
and is a lawyer that is defending the marines in a murder case, Jack Nicholson who played Col.
Nathan R. Jessup is the leader of marines stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Demi Moore who played
LT. Cdr. Joanne Galloway is part of the team with Kaffee to defend marnie in the murder case,
James Marshall who played Pfc. Louden Downey is the marine who is trialed for murder and

Essay about Iago Of Othello
Iago of Othello
What makes a good villain? What qualities make one villain stand out from another? Is it their
demeanor, ruthlessness, or the methods that they employ to accomplish their tasks? In any case, a
great villain must leave the reader with a respect for their methods and a question about their
motives. In Shakespeare s Othello, there is one character in Iago that fulfills all of these
qualifications. Iago is a wonderful villain because he gains other s trust, relentlessly takes
advantage of his peers flaws, and unapologetically causes the deaths of his counterparts in order to
achieve his goals. The main weapon Iago used in his villainy was trust. Iago knew how to play to
each character s personality to get them to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aside from being Othello s right hand man throughout a majority of the play, he also has a level
of comfort with Cassio. This comfort is shown in his willingness to talk about Desdemona when
the two are on night patrol. This reliance was something Iago exploited each time he had a
chance. Every time a desire was expressed, Iago was there with a solution that always benefited
Iago in the end. For instance, it was Iago that suggested to Roderigo that he attempt to kill
Cassio in order to get Desdemona to be interested in him. It was also Iago s work in stoking up
the fires of revenge in Othello s belly regarding the affair between Desdemona and Cassio. For
each situation, every word that was said was for the advancement of Iago and the destruction of
all others. Iago also acts as a contributor to each character s flaws in the play. For example, in act
two, Iago influences Cassio to have some drinks in order to start a quarrel between Cassio and
Roderigo. In another example, in act three, Iago gets Othello to believe that there is an affair
between Desdemona and Cassio by building on the suspicions and doubts that Othello had before
Iago even spoke to him. Finally, as the smoking gun that Othello was looking for, Iago presents the
handkerchief to Othello along with a fabricated story about it s whereabouts. These actions
contribute to the eventual demise of all of these characters, but it also leads to

Discrimination In American Schools
American Schools and Discrimination
According to the U.S Education Department, Eighty one percent (81%) of Asian American high
school students and 71% of white high school students attend high schools where the full range of
math and science courses are offered...Black students (57%), Latino students (67%), students with
disabilities (63%), and English language learner students (65%) also have less access to the full
range of courses . What does this tell us about schools in the United States? Although intentions
have been good, schools are still promoting racial discrimination throughout the U.S. Discrimination
has been proven by surveys on discipline and the opportunities given to non white ethnic groups.
Schools should be more concerned with how students that aren t white are being treated and

the plot of the movie Asterix and Obelix; Mission Cleopatra still reflects a lot on Cleopatra and
Caesar s conflict of interest. By now, we have all established magical potion does not exist. For
the simple fact that if it was present in 47 BC we would have some kind of artifact to back up this
theory. Unfortunately it is not the case, the Gaul were far too small and uncooperative with each

Kingship was always given to men and boys in the royal blood family. As Angelica E. stated that
the image desired was that of a masculine, social male, as opposed to a gentle, subordinate female
(Angelica E. Delaney 2014,p.8). This leads to gender roles. Cleopatra is from an ascribed status.
An ascribed status is when an individual is born with social advantages or disadvantages that
will influence them throughout their life. As it is mentioned previously, Cleopatra was viewed
as a God since she was born. She kept the same status and became the queen of Egypt. In the
movie, Cleopatra seems to make all the decision by her without taking anyone s consent. As for
historically, Cleopatra was also talking her decisions on her own but probably needed some
point of view of other people in different expertise. The message projected behind this movie is
that even though Cleopatra was a young woman who was controlling the Egyptian Empire, she
was still able to defeat Caesar even if she has many obstacles. She was a woman who was
breaking the entire norms and boundaries of this era and was encouraging feminism. As it was
shown in the movie, women always surrounded Cleopatra. They were at her service but she never
treated her as her maids but instead treated them like her friends. They were doing all their activities
together. Angelica E. Delaney mentioned, The endgame was to speak to the

Gene Regulation For Safety Assessment
Gene Regulation for Safety Assessment:
In addition to the mph gene, few gene regulations are implemented as safety assessment for the
product. In the recombination process of making this product, Ecoli plasmid has been used as a
vector to insert mph gene into host bacteria. We use a plasmid vector from E.coli that has
conserved sequence for Plac promoter and gef suicide gene. Plac promoter is positioned upstream
of mph gene to regulate its expression. Later, Plac promoter will be activated by induction with
IPTG.
A suicide system in E.coli plasmid vector is used to reduce the potential risk of gene escaping into
the environment. Genetic transfer from GM bacteria to other bacteria via trans conjugation will
cause unexpected genetic combinations. This method is implemented by using recipient plasmid
with suicide gene gef from E.coli, with expression controlled by Pm promoter. Pm promoter
sequence, which present upstream of the gef suicide gene will control the expression of gef suicide
gene.
The suicide system did not interfere with the performance of the GM bacteria until its
physiological function was activated by specific signal. In developing this product, we use Methyl
Benzoate as the chemical suicide signal. Following the addition of methyl benzoate, the Pm
promoter will be activated, and lead to the activation of gef suicide gene. This activates the suicide
system of the cells and the cell growth will decreases as the cells die.

Crime And Punishment Epilogue
The epilogue of Crime and Punishment is generally misunderstood and criticized, but is in fact
quite necessary to the story. In the epilogue, the reader sees how Raskolnikov has journeyed
from a state of nihilism, where he has acted on his own beliefs and theories about life, only to
find that he was, in essence, wrong. He eventually realizes that not only has he committed a crime
in the eyes of others, but has broken his own moral code as well. The epilogue brings this all
together and in seeing the implications of what his theory truly means, Raskolnikov finds
redemption and begins to understand the need for spiritual healing. Besides this, the epilogue
serves to show of Dostoevsky s true purpose to provide a warning against Russian nihilism. The
epilogue is essential because the entire novelleads up to his resurrection and the story would be
incomplete and illogical without Raskolnikov s acceptance of God and society.... Show more

Ever Since The Beginning Of The Internet, Technology Has
Ever since the beginning of the Internet, technology has presented itself as a valuable tool for
enhancing collaborative efforts among organizations. In fact, the origins of the Internet came from
the need to collaborate between research and development institutions and the military (Sutton,
2004). However, as the Internet continues to evolve, recent hardware and software innovations
enable collaboration at an unprecedented level. This paper will explore an example solution that
can resolve some of the current collaboration challenges for a U.S. Army organization, a cost to
benefit analysis of implementing the technology, and some of the concerns that the organization
must address before and after fielding the tool.

tool that users can use to conduct presentations, share files, and conduct white boarding sessions
from users at any location (Pellerin, 2015). In short, DCS enables collaboration at an enterprise
level by simply entering a website address into a web browser. What meeting attendees discuss,
share, or develop during a DCS session goes into OneNote.
Sustainment and Costs to Benefit Analysis
MS OneNote serves as a great solution for the immediate problems of the brigade s staff
collaborating locally at Fort Eustis. Yet, combined with DCS, both tools address the long term,
strategic problem with the 93rd Signal Brigade s 38 geographically separated network enterprise
centers. DCS extends and augments the capabilities over a much wider audience. Since the Army
already possesses the necessary licenses, the initiative does not require funding for implementation.
Also, each workstation on the Army s network already has OneNote installed or and users have

The goal of the students is to make recommendations about the highway. The project requires
complex decision making from the students. The simulation has four stages: in the first three stages,
students explore the information provided to them on a CD ROM. The CD ROM contains a
simulation of a deliberation over the highway project. Students are to discuss and debrief and record
their experiences. In the final stage, students need to organize a press conference. De Carlo believes
these simulations help students identify their emotions and the emotions of others, and use them as
a foundation to understanding negotiation.
In teaching through a paradox, de Carlo explains that we must rethink of the classroom as a
transitional space described as a place of creation and analysis. This space is intended to develop
coping skills in students who find negotiating frustrated. The professor serves as a mentor to
facilitate learning new ideas and skills with the aim of helping [students] be more effective in
negotiation and creative in life (355). However, de Carlo notes that authority should be present in
classroom dynamics while teaching through paradox. According to de Carlo, authority cannot be
negotiated, but needs to be present to create an environment that is both nurturing and frustrating.
This will allow the professor and the students to acknowledge recognition and respect, but also
identify emotional cues needed

United States Global Role Post-Cold War
Recently, and especially since the 1990s, a popular conception of the world is that the age of
empires and superpowers is waning, rapidly being replaced by a kind of global community made
up of interdependent states and deeply connected through economics and technology. In this view,
the United States role following the Cold Waris one of almost benign preeminence, in which it seeks
to spread liberal democracy through economic globalization, and, failing that, military intervention.
Even then, however, this military intervention is framed as part of a globalizing process, rather than
any kind of unilateral imperialist endeavor. However, examining the history of the United States
since nearly its inception all the way up to today reveals that nothing could be farther from the
truth. The United States is an empire in the truest sense of the word, expanding its control through
military force with seemingly no end other than its own enrichment. The United States
misadventure in Iraq puts the lie to the notion that US economic and military action is geared
towards any kind of global progression towards liberal democracy, and forces one to re imagine
the United States role in contemporary global affairs by recognizing the way in which it has
attempted to secure its own hegemony by crippling any potential threats. To begin, it is worth
noting that in many ways the United States represents the latest in a long line of empire stretching
back to at least the Roman Empire. While

The Participatory Rights Of Public Participation
Carmody notes that over the last two decades, public participation has been increasingly
incorporated into national and organisational decision making . The participatory rights of public
participation can be found ; at the national level in the constitutional guarantees of democratic states
and in human rightsinstruments and a developing body of international environmental law relating
to sustainable development at the international level . As regards participation, standards such as
prior, informed consent (PIC) as identified by Nagakawa is being developed by the latter two
bodies of international law . Bradlow and Chapman note that Human rights law variously
guarantees: (1) access to information as a component of the right of free speech; (2) the right to
participate in government; and (3) the right to access courts . These rights are incorporated into
binding human rights instruments that are applied by the regional human rights bodies and
international treaty bodies . According to Shelton, these rights have been fleshed out by resolving
complaints from indigenous and other communities that have challenged state led development
projects or state concessions to private companies . In addition, there are international soft law
instruments that address public participation. These include the Rio Declaration on Environment
and Development (Rio Declaration), which first laid out the three key elements of public
participation for sustainable development , and the U.N.

Digital Imaging Technologies Have Become Indispensable...
ABSTRACT
Digital imaging technologies have become indispensable components for clinical procedures. Major
advances in the field of medical imaging and computer technology have created opportunity for
quantitative analyses of medical images and provided powerful techniques to probe the structure,
pathology and function of the human body . In medical applications, skilled operators usually
extract the desired regions that may be anatomically separate but statistically indistinguishable. It is
subjected to manual errors and biases, which is time consuming, and has poor reproducibility. The
problem faced in clustering is the identification of clusters in given data. A widely used method for
clustering is based on K means in which the data is partitioned into K number of clusters. In this
method, clusters are predefined which is highly dependent on the initial identification of elements
representing the clusters well. Several researchers in clustering has focused on improving the
clustering process such that the clusters are not dependent on the initial identification of cluster
representation.

Great Mouse Detective, have antagonists that are represented in different ways.
In the movie Sherlock Holmes the villain is named Blackwood and in The Great Mouse Detective
the villain is Professor Ratigan. In all of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s stories there is always a
villain or a suspect. Blackwood in the film Sherlock Holmes and Professor Ratigan in The Great
Mouse Detective were both out to achieve a similar goal . Both of the characters in these movies
have similarities, but both of the characters also have differences as well. While Blackwood in
Sherlock Holmes is a human, Ratigan is a rat in The Great Mouse Detective. The two characters

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Harry Potter Books
Every so often there are stories that take the world by storm and make such an impact that they
become part of our everyday world. These stories, characters, and themes become established
elements of cultural literacy. This is exactly what has happened with J. K. Rowling s Harry Potter
series. With a few flicks of his magic wand, Harry Potterhas turned Rowling into a billionaire.
Like this, the book Harry Potter is a absoulutely a successful book, having lots of positive views
from the readers and also chosen as 19th in Teachers Top 100 Books for Children . With seven

Even though it is, the book teach the charaters how to use magic but actually does not teach the
readers who is children how to do magic. It is natural for kids to think like becoming a wizard
like Harry Potter and imagine going to Hogwart but those books do not lead children to follow
magic. Also, if they read the book they know that only those chosen who is born magical can
become a wizard. Next, the main story line is Harry developing his ability and talent like
learning magic and fight for evil. Because there are charaters like Harry who use magic in good
way and fight for evil while characters like Voldmort who use magic in dark ways and becoming
immortal. In the end, Voldmort is beaten by Harry. This story will effect children not to use
their talent and ability they developed in evil way. This is second reason why Harry Potter
affects kids in a good way. Third reason is that the characters in the book do not act like kids in
the real world these days. There are a lot of children these days stuck in house only holding iPod
or computer, not playing with their friends outside. But Harry, unlike those children in the real
world, reached out to others, formed friendships, followed the advice of mentors, achieved his aim
by cooperating with his friends and generally grew as a person who fulfills his role in the
community. Like this there are many good moral things that

Majoring In Business
The area of study that I am drawn to is business. I remember in elementary school when my
teacher asks me what I would like to be, my first responds was to become a teacher. All through
Elementary school I keep up with this dream that I would one day become a teacher until I
realized that I did not like kids as much. In middle school, I was encouraging to become a lawyer.
A lawyer was something that I thought would fit for me because I am good at debating different
topics. With the help of research, I learned that become a lawyer required a lot of writing. Writing is
something that I struggle with which cause me to doubt my potential of become a great lawyer. My

With the word Good Faith which means an earnest intention to deal justly with others in any

It is derived from the Latin idiom bona fide, and courts use the two terms interchangeably.
Good faith is an intangible and inclusive term that encompasses a genuine sincerity or purpose
without any wickedness or the desire to deceive others.
Organizational success has a direct relation with the term Good faith. Good faith may be looked

The Stereotype Of A Young Girl
1.As a young girl, I have always associated most white people with the quality of being rude or
racist. For example, not holding doors as I walked behind them or ignoring my friendly smiles
and/or comments. I vividly remember several occasions where I would be walking two steps
being a Caucasian person and they would fail to hold the door open allowing it to slam in my face.
There is also an uneasy stare that is given while shopping, such as following African Americans
around the store to watch them to make sure they are not stealing. The belief that white peopleare
rude is not limited to black people, but other minorities as well because their cultural beliefs and
practices are often disrespected.
2.The stereotype emerged from personal experiences throughout my daily life. My mother would
also agree that most individuals who are white are rude to minorities because of their sense of
entitlement. She would often have to console me because at a young age, I would acknowledge the
difference in treatment I received. In reference to other cultures, their cultural beliefs are often
disregarded and are not given the time to understand. When someone is not fluent in English, they
are often disregarded instead of taking the time is comprehend their statement. Blacks are
automatically characterized as thieves or hoodlums, Muslims are terrorist and Mexicans are all
labor workers, which are incorrect statements and over generalized.
3.As a result, thinking that most Caucasians

Jean Renoir Rules Of The Game
This Image comes from director Jean Renoir film Rules of the Game. During this period in history
director, Renoir was one of the few directors to truly understand anything that had to deal with the
cultural rules of the French lifestyle. So, when he wrote this film he decided to implement a
rebellion against; Comedy of manners: a satire of the upper class is no longer considered
interchangeable with treason . When this filmwas first shown, it caused near riots not because of the
things that were written to show the French in a bad light but, because Renoir cast a Jewish actor to
play the main character. Surprisingly this just furthers Renoir point about French culture because,
of the anti Semitism of French culture. If you don t know Semitism means hatred against Jews....

Renoir develops this unique shot by using a technique called deep focus which falls within the
mise en scene of Frame Composition. Deep focus means a technology that shows objects in the
front, middle, and back of the frame with equal clarity. The reason Renoir does this is because
he wants to create a fuller depiction of the action going on in the shot for the viewers. You first
see Octave and Lissette at the front of the image as the centerpiece of the shot. Instead of
making it a shot where Octave and Lissette escape to someplace to have a private conversation to
get away from the hustle of the world to live freely in this weird ambiguous culture that they
have going on. Renoir placed a vague blur in the background to prevent any possible distraction.
In that background, you have a servant walking up on the left of Octave and Lisette as if
something s he was going to have a going to have a conversation with Octave. Then directly to the
right of them you a staircase with a mirror and some candles with creating plans for later action in

Male Presence In The Awakening
The lack of male presence symbolizes their disdain in the women s lives. As portrayed in the book,
the protagonist and other major characters are all females, suggesting self sufficiency. The author
writes about the women being left by their husbands, but moves on, depicting male triviality. The
female characters also develop their independence when they rely on each other during difficult
times. The main character and other major characters receive very little help from men, which
depicts their independence. The men have vacated from their lives, leaving an obstacle, which
debates the women s response to the inconvenience. Instead, they invigoratingly maneuver their
mentality, verifying their capabilities. One character, specifically,... Show more content on

This can be shown through interactions with some of the female characters. The pairs: Lou Ann
and Taylor, Mrs. Parsons and Edna Poppy, Taylor and Mattie, clearly depicts their support for
each other. Lou Ann and Taylor builds their relationship when Taylor adjusts to raising Turtle,
while Mrs. Parsons supports Edna with her disadvantage. Yet what correlates the most is Taylor
and Mattie s relationship. This can be most seen when Taylor consults to Mattie about Turtle.
Even with this on her mind, she spent a lot of time talking with me about Turtle. She told me
some things I didn t know...Do I think it would be interesting, maybe even enjoyable in the long
run, to share my life with this kid and give her my best effort and maybe, when all s said and
done, end up with a good friend (Kingsolver 239). When Taylor debates a life changing choice of
adopting Turtle, she discusses it with Mattie. In the process, Mattie offers exquisite advice,
showing Taylor could always seek Mattie for advice. In the process, Mattie depicts herself as a
motherly figure to Taylor which bolsters Taylor s adoration for Mattie. The women in the story
represent the strong relationships people could build with each

Green Crab Case Study
1.The habitat of the green crab changed after 1900 and this is important because all of the shells
found prior to 1900 are thin and taller than the ones found after the green crab migrated to Cape
Cod, Massachusetts. This information can be found in introduction of Seeley s paper. 2.Seeley
used an ocular micrometer at x10 magnification. Shell height was measured with calipers. This
information was found in the methods section of the paper. 3.Seeley cannot conclude from only
the field experiment that shell thickness is a heritable trait passed on from parent to offspring
because there was no genetic testing involved. It could be that the occurrence of shells being
thicker is by chance and there are no thin shelled snails to be found because

How Is Sisyphus Similar
1). Phil s scenario is similar to Sisyphus because they are both stuck in a situation where they
have to repeat doing the same thing over and over. For example, Phil keeps reliving Groundhog
Day while Sisyphus has to roll a rock up a hill for eternity. Another example of how Phil s and
Sisyphus scenarios are similar is how they got themselves into repeating the same day over. Phil
was rude to people and did not enjoy the little aspects of life during his stay and news casting in
Punxsutawney for Groundhog Day. Unlike Phil, Sisyphus created many crimes that the gods did
not appreciate. Phil s scenario is different from Sisyphus because Phil got to change the way he
wanted to act and the things he wanted to do. For example, after he realized that he was going to
keep reliving Groundhog s Day, he decided to take advantage of the situation. On one of the days
Phil decided to drive foolishly around town with two drunks that he met at a bar and ends up in
jail. Since he is reliving the same day many times, he decides to steal money from the money truck.
Sisyphus however just gets stuck with continuously rolling the rock up the hill and he has to deal
with his hour of consciousness .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the movie Phil takes advantage of reliving the same day but then realizes there is
not much more he can do, so he tries to kill himself in multiple ways. But near the end we see a
change in Phil, he is much kinder to people. He starts to embrace what is happening to him,
instead of thinking of himself all the time he starts to do service for others in the community. We
can see that he struggles with the consequence he is faced with but in the end we see that Phil
changes his attitude in the way he sees life. He gets the girl, he gets the happiness he was looking
for, and he breaks the cycle. Existentialism is demonstrated in the movie when we can visually see
that Phil can change his view towards life so he could live a better

A Study On Sickle Cell Disease
Sickle cell disease, SCD, is an inherited autosomal recessive genetic disorder that affects 1 in 500
Americans of West African descent with one in 12 African Americans and one in 100 Hispanics
being carriers ( Learning. 2014). SCD is prevalent in individuals with origins in equatorial
countries, such as central Africa, Near East, Mediterranean area, and in parts of India (McCance,
2010). Sickle cell anemia, sickle cell thalassemia, and sickle cell Hb C are all forms of sickle cell
disease with sickle cell anemia being the most severe. Within the general population there is a
0.7% chance of two African American parents having a child with sickle cell anemia, a 1 in 800
birth risk for sickle cell Hb C, and 1 in 1700 birth risk for sickle cell thalassemia (2010). The
incidence of sickle cell trait carriers can range from 7% to 13% in blacks and up to 45% in
people from Eastern Africa. In comparison to the other forms of SCD, sickle cell anemia is
present in a homozygous form. Individuals are considered to be sickle cell trait carriers when they
inherit Hb S from one parent and normal hemoglobinfrom the other parent, these individuals rarely
present with any clinical manifestations (2010).
Individuals with SCD inherit the sickle globin gene (HbS) from one parent and a normal (HbA)
from the other parent. The allele for individuals with a sickle cell trait would be HbAS or AS and
HbSS for those with SCD (2010). When two individuals are carriers to the defective gene

The Futility Of Chasing The American Dream By F. Scott...
To pursue a goal which is by definition unattainable is to condemn oneself to a state of perpetual
unhappiness (Emile). Such as in this case, a person should not set a goal that is out of their reach.
They will only cause everlasting misery to themselves. Perhaps nowhere else is this theme more
valuable than in the text, The Great Gatsby. In the text, F. Scott Fitzgeralddisplays the futility of
chasing the American dream through symbolism and characterization. In the novel, one of the main
characters, Jay Gatsbysets his sights on a ceaseless journey to find his lost love, Daisy Buchanan.
On his journey he partakes in embodying the American dream. Gatsby begins to work hard to
improve his life; compared to East Egg, the more privileged citizens who always have been
wealthy for generations. Gatsby lives on West Egg, which is considered for the more
adventitious citizens. He has worked hard for his money trying to prevail in life. Although the
way that he obtained his wealth can be questionable for their virtuous conduct; the reason why
he has done this can be appeared as romantic. He devotes his life to ensuing Daisy his heart.
When Gatsby embodies the American dream, he transforms himself into the man he hopes Daisy
would want. For Gatsby to obtain this dream he had to change his name; James Gatz to Jay
Gatsby. Jay Gatz that was really, or least legally, his name (Fitzgerald, 2004, pg. 98). Jay Gatz was
a poor man; he lives in poverty. When he first met Dan Cody,

Gender Based Discrimination And Social Norms
Gender based discrimination and social norms are the most common causes of violence against
women. Theoretically, these societal norms that have been in grated to us since childhood lead us
to believe that the male gender has the right to do whatever they want while at the same time
restrict the female genderfrom doing the same or condemn or punish them if they fail to obey
such stigmas. So far, efforts have only focused on responses and services for survivors; given the
devastating effect violence has on women. Preventing the violence from happening in the first
place by addressing its root and structural causes is the best way to end violence against women
and girls.
It is only through education of boys at a young age that it is possible to change this norm of
looking at women as the lesser sex. In order to prevent and eradicate gender based discrimination in
a fast and sustainable manner, working on the attitudes of the youth is the best possible step. This
is because youth is a critical time when values and norms around gender equality are forged, while
public policies and intervention often overlook this stage of life.
The 57th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) placed a strong urge on the
prevention of the gender based discrimination. Working on the theme: eliminate and prevent all
forms of violence against women and girls , which was attended by representatives of various
organizations from all over the world. Prevention also means to make the

Hrothgar, the ruler of the Danes, places the people of his city as the highest priority. Not being
timid to present emotions along with wisdom and admirability are certain qualities held by

Puritan Vs American Society
Puritan Project
There are many similarities and differences between the puritan s society and the American
society typically, in today s society America is known as a place of freedom, where a person s
opportunities are limited only by his or her ambition and ability and not by his or her race, social
status, gender, or other circumstances uncontrolled by birth. The puritan society was a group of
people who worked towards religious, moral and societal reforms, they had fixed lives with not as
many freedoms as the American society. The Puritans believed that the Bible was God s true law,
and that it provided a plan for living. Both cultures valued work to some degree. The puritans,

In today s American society fashion is a way to express oneself. Fashion describes a person s
personality, feelings/mood, a reflection of who they are and how they want people to see them, put
all on display by the clothes they choose to wear. Apart from professional business attire, clothing in
the United States is varied and mainly casual. Blue jeans were popularized as work clothes and
were then adopted by many American teenagers a century later. They are now widely worn
everywhere by people of all ages and social classes. The clothes that Americans buy demonstrate
what kind of person they see themselves to be. Fashion gives the American society a reason to
go on and be creative. Pertaining to their lives individually, fashion describe who they are as a
person. It can show if a person is high maintenance, casual, flashy or just indifferent. In both
society s Black and white were formal colors. Food is a very important aspect in both societies.
Puritans ate foods focused primarily on meat and baked goods. They farmed and fished. A feast
may include fish, meats, and a stew with vegetables from their gardens. For dessert, there might be
sugared almonds or custard. And, surprisingly, they would drink wine and ale,

  • 2. Compare and contrast Ben Jonson’s †The Alchemist’ and... The study will encompass the compare and contrast of two great writers literary works. It will take comprehensive discussion on Ben Jonson s The Alchemist and William Shakespeare s The Tempest . Jonson and Shakespeare were contemporaries with more immediately recognizable common ground between them than difference. They shared the same profession and brought forth their works from the matrix of common intellectual property. They appealed to the same audience and both gained popularity and esteem as accomplished playwrights. At the more social level, they were both struggling artists conscious of the need for patronage and support from their wealthier and more powerful peers. Both Jonson and Shakespeare experienced the trials and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The distinction between I and him is emphasized by Jonson s assertion of an answer to Shakespeare s way of doing things. The quest for self knowledge has been integral to the structures and evolution of human society throughout history. During the early modem period, the classical maxim of nosce teipsum operated almost universally, not only as a prompt towards, but also as a goal of, both individual and communal achievement and actualization. At one level, Hamlet s tribute may be taken as an adumbration of the Renaissance engagement with the epistemological enquiries into the nature of man, and his place and function in the cosmic chain of being. What a piece of work is a man, How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty, in form and moving how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals. And yet to me what is this quintessence of dust? Jonson explicitly bases their sense of the play s similarity upon theories of comedy that imply such affirmation. In Volpone and The Alchemist, Jonson sues irony to expose how far short of the ideal is the world of the play, and thus celebrates the ideal indirectly. If the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay The Laramie Project Critique The Laramie Project Critique *No Works Cited The Laramie project captured the audience s attention by utilizing different design methods on stage. This included sound, stage and hand properties, light, and music. With an ensemble of 10 actors playing over 30 roles, this proved to be an amazing play to experience. The playwright was constructed in a clear manner, which eliminated the confusion of who is who. Through the usage of the stage elements as well as the dynamics of each character, this brought about an effective plot. The first element that made the play dramatic was the sound effects. The sound of the Wyoming wind was constant throughout the whole play, but as emotional scenes and climaxes occurred, the sound of wind... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The set was designed in a way that was very versatile and yet, still convey a serious message. By versatile, I am implying that the open stage with two ramps crossing each other in the background was plain and simple but served a purpose of several scenes such as a bar, church, and even a funeral. A set prop that were a key pieces in the play were the wooden benches, these made it possible for the actors to switch scenes. Some examples on the usage of the benches were when they stacked two benches one on top of another and turned it into a bar, they turned the bench in a vertical position and created a podiums to express different religions, or setting the benches in a close and aligned design to create a church. Other props that influenced the scenes were snow, umbrellas, then using the umbrellas as angel wings, and of course lighting. Instead of building entire sets, or making the audience use their imagination with no props included in the play, the set designers and directors created visuals that were ordinary objects and interacted the audience to use their imagination and build the appropriate set for the scene in their minds. I believe by keeping a low budget, the designers of The Laramie Project accomplished a bigger impact on the audience with a simple low budget set rather than an expensive big fancy set. Props and sound effects were not the only major influences for this greatly constructed play, but also the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Counseling Reflection Introduction The purpose of this reaction paper is to introduce the reader to my early perceptions of my own personal style and theory of counseling. At this early stage in my training, I would attest to the fact that this is not as easy as it may sound, particularly when I am still being acquainted with the multitude of counseling theories and style frameworks since the inception of the counseling field. That said, since it is a necessity of this paper as required by this course in Introduction to Counseling Techniques, I would venture to say that an eclectic approach would be my early adopted framework. Obviously, since Carl Rogers person centered theoretical approach is inherent in modern counseling techniques, it is an early part... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, a disadvantage of person centered therapy may be that it becomes an endless back and forth between the same small, never changing ball of players; core conditions, actualizing tendency, frame of reference, or locus of evaluation (Biles, 2016). In my estimation of what Biles stipulated in the paraphrase above, he feels as though the core conditions of person centered therapy (e.g. 1. Psychological contact; 2. Client incongruence, 3; Therapist congruence; 4. Therapist unconditional positive regard; 5. Therapist empathy; and 6. Communication of 4. and 5.) are somewhat artificial, dogmatic and insufficient (in isolation) for client change (Biles, 2016). In other words, person centered theory implies that the techniques of other therapies are relatively unimportant except to the extent they serve as channels for fulfilling the core therapeutic conditions of person centered therapy (Biles, 2016). Rogers himself wrote a short paper in which he proclaimed that his theory has often been seriously misunderstood. Essentially, reflecting on the fact that people have turned the core conditions into shoulds or musts ; you should be empathetic, or you must have unconditional positive regard. It is not as though you can tell yourself to be empathetic and immediately be there. What Rogers said, if the core conditions exist, then change is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It wasn t the best settlement, but it was the first nonetheless. Jamestown s mortality rate was high very because the colonists would often times catch diseases and hydrate themselves from unhealthy water sources. It was a swampland after all. Starvation was a huge factor in their death toll as well. Colonists would eat each other for survival as there were low food sources and they couldn t grow much due to bad soil. By 1616, about eighty percent of the colonists that settled there had died. However, in 1619, the first slaves from Africa sat foot in the Jamestown, Virginia. In order to stabilize the economy, the Virginians required heavy labor. Slaves from Africa were sold as indentured servants; person that worked for several years but then was granted freedom after their servitude. Since the Virginians relied on the growth of corn for grain and tobacco to feed and fund the growth of their population, the Europeans relied on the slave tactics from Africa in order increase their efficiency in agriculture. She was good enough to place top five in two World Championships (33), good enough to tour the country to perform (57), good enough to win two medals at nationals (30), good enough to make it to the winter Olympics (48), and good enough to overcome a disability to be who she is today (12). This disability is known as clubfoot, and with correction devices, it can be fixed (Healthwise). There are many important details about clubfoot. Clubfoot, also known as talipes equinovarus, is a birth defect, which mean it is there when the baby is born (Frey). Clubfoot causes pain because it makes the foot turn sideways and inward (Weatherford 175). This disease makes the affected foot look like a club, hence the name clubfoot (176). With clubfoot, the foot turns toward the other foot, and those who are affected appear to walk on their heels ( Famous People ). Imagine having to walk on a thin calf and having a high heel, which are both causes of talipes equinovarus (Frey). Each year one in every 1,000 babies born in the United States will be born with clubfoot. There are also 150,000 200,000 people in the world that are affected with clubfoot each year (Blue Sky Hosts). The main symptom for clubfoot is pain, although clubfoot is harmless in babies. There are many remedies for talipes equinovarus including corrective shoes, wearing special braces at night, physical therapy, and possibly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Voting Age In Voting At first one may think that 16 and 17 year olds are just focused on dating, having fun, and playing sports. Most would assume that they certainly aren t mature enough or know enough about politics to vote. However, it is just the opposite, 16 and 17 year olds are in fact very qualified to vote and they care about politics. The votingage should be lowered to allow 16 and 17 year olds to vote. 16 and 17 year olds are just as capable as adults in voting, letting them vote would positively affect the voting field in numerous ways, and they are faced many responsibilities similar to adults . 16 and 17 year olds are just as qualified to vote as adults are. According to the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965, a 6th grade education is all that is required for an adult to vote (National Youth Rights). The majority of 16 and 17 year olds have completed more than a 6th grade level of education, so they certainly fit the education standards required for voting. Not only do 16 and 17 year olds tend to be more educated than 6th graders, it is also shown through research that a 16 year old has the same degree of civic knowledge as a 21 year old and that 16 and 17 year olds poses a high enough intellectual level and maturity level to vote like adults (Vote16USA). • 14. A Comparative Analysis Of Red Reiner s A Few Good Men Painful Power A Comparative analysis of Red Reiner s A Few Good Men It is interesting to see human behavior when put into a difficult situation that may force them to harm others when they do not want to, but will anyways. It is human nature to always do what is best for themselves and their safety, but people tend to harm others when they can shift the blame off themselves for causing them harm. As for example the milgram experiment is a great example showing people will cause harm under given command. This is not true for everyone, but for most people it is. People will harm others, but kept telling the instructor that they want to stop. The instructor told them they must keep on going, the first response would be I do not want to blamed for hurting the person, soon as instructor took the responsibility then the they would continue to cause pain. A movie that takes a closer look into this situation is A Few Good Men directed by Red Reiner. Some of the main actors were Tom Cruise who played Lt. Daniel Kaffee and is a lawyer that is defending the marines in a murder case, Jack Nicholson who played Col. Nathan R. Jessup is the leader of marines stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Demi Moore who played LT. Cdr. Joanne Galloway is part of the team with Kaffee to defend marnie in the murder case, James Marshall who played Pfc. Louden Downey is the marine who is trialed for murder and disorderly conduct. • 15. Essay about Iago Of Othello Iago of Othello What makes a good villain? What qualities make one villain stand out from another? Is it their demeanor, ruthlessness, or the methods that they employ to accomplish their tasks? In any case, a great villain must leave the reader with a respect for their methods and a question about their motives. In Shakespeare s Othello, there is one character in Iago that fulfills all of these qualifications. Iago is a wonderful villain because he gains other s trust, relentlessly takes advantage of his peers flaws, and unapologetically causes the deaths of his counterparts in order to achieve his goals. The main weapon Iago used in his villainy was trust. Iago knew how to play to each character s personality to get them to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aside from being Othello s right hand man throughout a majority of the play, he also has a level of comfort with Cassio. This comfort is shown in his willingness to talk about Desdemona when the two are on night patrol. This reliance was something Iago exploited each time he had a chance. Every time a desire was expressed, Iago was there with a solution that always benefited Iago in the end. For instance, it was Iago that suggested to Roderigo that he attempt to kill Cassio in order to get Desdemona to be interested in him. It was also Iago s work in stoking up the fires of revenge in Othello s belly regarding the affair between Desdemona and Cassio. For each situation, every word that was said was for the advancement of Iago and the destruction of all others. Iago also acts as a contributor to each character s flaws in the play. For example, in act two, Iago influences Cassio to have some drinks in order to start a quarrel between Cassio and Roderigo. In another example, in act three, Iago gets Othello to believe that there is an affair between Desdemona and Cassio by building on the suspicions and doubts that Othello had before Iago even spoke to him. Finally, as the smoking gun that Othello was looking for, Iago presents the handkerchief to Othello along with a fabricated story about it s whereabouts. Cleopatra is from an ascribed status. An ascribed status is when an individual is born with social advantages or disadvantages that will influence them throughout their life. As it is mentioned previously, Cleopatra was viewed as a God since she was born. She kept the same status and became the queen of Egypt. In the movie, Cleopatra seems to make all the decision by her without taking anyone s consent. As for historically, Cleopatra was also talking her decisions on her own but probably needed some point of view of other people in different expertise. The message projected behind this movie is that even though Cleopatra was a young woman who was controlling the Egyptian Empire, she was still able to defeat Caesar even if she has many obstacles. She was a woman who was breaking the entire norms and boundaries of this era and was encouraging feminism. As it was shown in the movie, women always surrounded Cleopatra. • 19. Gene Regulation For Safety Assessment Gene Regulation for Safety Assessment: In addition to the mph gene, few gene regulations are implemented as safety assessment for the product. In the recombination process of making this product, Ecoli plasmid has been used as a vector to insert mph gene into host bacteria. We use a plasmid vector from E.coli that has conserved sequence for Plac promoter and gef suicide gene. Plac promoter is positioned upstream of mph gene to regulate its expression. Later, Plac promoter will be activated by induction with IPTG. A suicide system in E.coli plasmid vector is used to reduce the potential risk of gene escaping into the environment. Genetic transfer from GM bacteria to other bacteria via trans conjugation will cause unexpected genetic combinations. This method is implemented by using recipient plasmid with suicide gene gef from E.coli, with expression controlled by Pm promoter. Pm promoter sequence, which present upstream of the gef suicide gene will control the expression of gef suicide gene. The suicide system did not interfere with the performance of the GM bacteria until its physiological function was activated by specific signal. In developing this product, we use Methyl Benzoate as the chemical suicide signal. Following the addition of methyl benzoate, the Pm promoter will be activated, and lead to the activation of gef suicide gene. This activates the suicide system of the cells and the cell growth will decreases as the cells die. Plan Methods: These procedures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition a newspaper article that goes by the name of Florida s python hunt by Andrew Ng he mentions with no natural predators, these eating machines appear to be wiping out huge numbers of opossums, raccoons, and many bird species. • 35. United States Global Role Post-Cold War Recently, and especially since the 1990s, a popular conception of the world is that the age of empires and superpowers is waning, rapidly being replaced by a kind of global community made up of interdependent states and deeply connected through economics and technology. In this view, the United States role following the Cold Waris one of almost benign preeminence, in which it seeks to spread liberal democracy through economic globalization, and, failing that, military intervention. Even then, however, this military intervention is framed as part of a globalizing process, rather than any kind of unilateral imperialist endeavor. However, examining the history of the United States since nearly its inception all the way up to today reveals that nothing could be farther from the truth. The United States is an empire in the truest sense of the word, expanding its control through military force with seemingly no end other than its own enrichment. The United States misadventure in Iraq puts the lie to the notion that US economic and military action is geared towards any kind of global progression towards liberal democracy, and forces one to re imagine the United States role in contemporary global affairs by recognizing the way in which it has attempted to secure its own hegemony by crippling any potential threats. To begin, it is worth noting that in many ways the United States represents the latest in a long line of empire stretching back to at least the Roman Empire. While ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The participatory rights of public participation can be found ; at the national level in the constitutional guarantees of democratic states and in human rightsinstruments and a developing body of international environmental law relating to sustainable development at the international level . As regards participation, standards such as prior, informed consent (PIC) as identified by Nagakawa is being developed by the latter two bodies of international law . Bradlow and Chapman note that Human rights law variously guarantees: (1) access to information as a component of the right of free speech; (2) the right to participate in government; and (3) the right to access courts . These rights are incorporated into binding human rights instruments that are applied by the regional human rights bodies and international treaty bodies . According to Shelton, these rights have been fleshed out by resolving complaints from indigenous and other communities that have challenged state led development projects or state concessions to private companies . In addition, there are international soft law instruments that address public participation. These include the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development (Rio Declaration), which first laid out the three key elements of public participation for sustainable development , and the U.N. ... • 53. The Futility Of Chasing The American Dream By F. Scott... To pursue a goal which is by definition unattainable is to condemn oneself to a state of perpetual unhappiness (Emile). Such as in this case, a person should not set a goal that is out of their reach. They will only cause everlasting misery to themselves. Perhaps nowhere else is this theme more valuable than in the text, The Great Gatsby. In the text, F. Scott Fitzgeralddisplays the futility of chasing the American dream through symbolism and characterization. In the novel, one of the main characters, Jay Gatsbysets his sights on a ceaseless journey to find his lost love, Daisy Buchanan. On his journey he partakes in embodying the American dream. Gatsby begins to work hard to improve his life; compared to East Egg, the more privileged citizens who always have been wealthy for generations. So far, efforts have only focused on responses and services for survivors; given the devastating effect violence has on women. Preventing the violence from happening in the first place by addressing its root and structural causes is the best way to end violence against women and girls. It is only through education of boys at a young age that it is possible to change this norm of looking at women as the lesser sex. In order to prevent and eradicate gender based discrimination in a fast and sustainable manner, working on the attitudes of the youth is the best possible step. This is because youth is a critical time when values and norms around gender equality are forged, while public policies and intervention often overlook this stage of life.
