The Basic Information Of Tioman Island
Tioman Island (Malay language: Pulau Tioman) is a small island located 32 km off the east
coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the state of Pahang, and is some 39 km long and 12 km wide. It
has eight main villages, the largest and most populous being Kampung Tekek in the north. The
densely forested island is sparsely inhabited, and is surrounded by numerous coral reefs, making it
a popular scuba diving spot. There are also a lot of resorts and chalets around the island which has
duty free status.
Its beaches were depicted in the 1958 movie, South Pacific as Bali Hai. In the 1970s, TIME
Magazine selected Tioman as one of the world s most beautiful islands.

Politics
Tioman Island lends its name to the state constituency of Tioman, comprising the island and part of
the Rompin district including the town of Kuala Rompin. Its representative to the State Legislative
Assembly is YB Mohd. Johari from Barisan Nasional. Its representative to the Malaysian
Parliament is former MOSTI Minister Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis, also from Barisan Nasional.

As of May 2011, only 2 FM radio stations can be received from Kuantan, and some from Kuala
Rompin, and 12 AM stations. Viewing television needs large antenna or satellites, as indoors

One of Ours by Willa Cather
Margaret Elliot is beautiful, talented, critical, unsatisfied, tired of the world at twenty four
(Great Short Works, 8). Engaged to a man she has no feelings for, life feels bleak and without
purpose. She feels true love once with Eric, but just for a moment. For her whole life, Margaret
had searched the faces of men for the look that lay in his eyes. She knew that look had never shone
before, would never shine for her on earth again, that such lovecomes to one only in dreams or in
impossible places like this, unattainable always. This was Love s self, and in a moment it would
die (Great Short Works, 29). For Willa Catherthis is how love exists. Happy relationships are
plentiful, but the enchanted, all encapsulating love of dreams only exists in glances. For Eric
this glance is enough. He does not regret his decision or the damnation he is sure it will cause. For
him a day shall be as a thousand years, and a thousand years as a day as his love lives on.
In most cases, however love is not enough. Both Margaret and Claude, the protagonist of Cather s
novel One of Ours feel this shimmer of love, but in the end must search for meaning elsewhere.
Set in a small Nebraska farm town, One of Ours opens several years before the start of the First
World War. Claude is unsatisfied with his simple life in the fields, and possesses an idealistic,
romantic outlook that propels him to search for meaning on a much different field in Europe. For
Claude, who wants nothing more than

Diction In Ralph Waldo Emerson s Education
Emerson from Education is trying to spread his message that the current school education is not in
the perfect shape but rather in a broken state. Because of the problem, the students are not able to
learn as well. Emerson gets his message out by using diction to strengthen his position and Emerson
also appeals to pathos. In Education, Emerson uses diction as a way to keep audiences engaged in
what he is trying to argue. Emerson uses the words drill and labor to create a hostile tone which
enhances his message that the schoolsystem is broken (Emerson). The word drill in this context is
used as an aggressive move. The author uses the word drill instead of teaches because the word
drill makes the school seem like they are trying to

The Blindness Motif In Oedipus The King
The Blindness Motif
The role of blindness can be found in ancient Greek plays with both scenarios of literal and
figurative blindness. Some plays use the blindness motif with irony, to sometimes create a theme in
the plays. Instances in the Greek play written by Sophocles shows the theme of curiosity through
eyes, and it can reflect on today s culture. The blindness motif in Oedipus the King has been proven
by Oedipus himself and can also be seen in today s culture, with the 45th president, Donald Trump.
Sophocles purpose of the blindness motif in the was to create the theme of curiosity, which Oedipus
clearly shows throughout the entire play. Oedipus continues to ask questions even if it does him no
good, and he has determination to find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oedipus can be compared to modern day celebrities or those of power such as the 45th president
of the United States, Donald Trump. Although Trump is not literally blind, he doesn t realize
that there are slave trades happening in Liberia or that global warming is happening, but instead
is focused on football players that are kneeling during the National Anthem. Trump s only focus
is to make America great again but is blinded by the fact that America has other problems other
than the fact that we don t have a wall on the border of our country. Based on his twitter, Trump s
only concern is to bash other people, with expressing of blatant sexism, and inappropriate
behavior as a president, @ariannahuff is unattractive both inside and out. I fully understand why
her former husband left her for a man he made a good decision. (Trump s Twitter account, August
28th, 2016) His utter blindness towards equality of men and women, and blindness of
appropriateness of tweets clarifies that Oedipus and Donald Trump are alike. Both were rulers,
and were blind, and like Oedipus, hopefully one day Trump will be kicked out of the leadership and

Anne Hutchinson s Ethical Role
Hutchinson held Bible study meetings for women that soon had great appeal to men as well.
Eventually, she went beyond Bible study to proclaiming boldly facets of her own theological
interpretations, some of which offended colony leadership. Great controversy ensued, and after an
arduous trial before a jury of officials from both government and clergy, eventually she was
banished from her colony. The assertive Anne was now becoming a religious leader to many, and
this worried John Winthrop, a long time opponent of Anne s views, and the newly appointed
Governor of the MassachusettsBay colony. Winthrop recognized her as a threat to the authority of
the men in power, and the thought of women expressing their views on Church and communal

Analysis Of The Book The Lottery

Blind Tradition Every society in the modern world has some form of tradition that has been
passed down from generation to generation, and no matter what the custom is, people will
continue to follow it due to the human nature to resist change. Even if there is an urge for
change, it will likely be suppressed and seen as an act of rebellion as most people follow tradition
simply because that s just how it is , and never seem to question why. Suzanne Collin s novel The
Hunger Games and Shirley Jackson s short story The Lottery best illustrate this point by showing
how a violent annual tradition affects a society and its innocent people. The Hunger Games has
such uncanny similarities to The Lottery that it almost seems as if Collins used Jackson s story as a
source of inspiration for her novel. Both The Hunger Games and The Lottery are extremely similar
thematically in the sense that sheepishly following tradition can often be detrimental to society
because it can lead to adverse consequences such as death, ignorance, and a society with no desire to
change. Although both works are very much identical, the primary distinguishing characteristics are
the setting and tone. The Lottery takes place in a small village with about three hundred
inhabitants, while The Hunger Games involves a much larger post apocalyptic world consisting of
thirteen districts known as Panem. In The Lottery , the introduction presents itself

United Airlines And Merger With Continental Airlines Essay
ABSTRACT
UAL Corp. s United Airlines announced merger with Continental Airlines Inc. on May 3, 2010 and
became the world s largest airline. This $3 billion merger between the two airline companies lifted
the beigest regulatory hurdle ever in the international aviation sector. In this paper, I will review
through the timeline that covers from the announcement of the merger to the completion with
major milestones noted and what role the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) was playing in this
merger.
TIMELINE
June 2008:CEOs of both United Airlines and Continental Airlinessigned and alliance pact. The
alliance is an agreement to link international networks and share technology and passenger perks.
This agreement is basically a virtual merger that includes many of the benefits of a merger without
the actual costs and restructuring involved. The alliance took effect about a year after Delta Air
Lines and Northwest Airlines completed their merger, as that released Continental from the
SkyTeam contract and allowed for the required nine month notice. Additionally, Continental joined
the Star Alliance, as Delta and Northwest merged.
April 2010:United Airlines was reported to be in serious merger discussion with US Airways.
May 2, 2010:The board of Directors at Continental and United Airlines approved a stock swap deal
that would combine them into the world s largest airline. Both airlines have taken losses in the
recession and expect the merger to generate savings of more than $1

To Give is To Receive
The idea of giving has been around since biblical times. Its quoted in the bible over (2000 times).
Through the centuries, although it has maintained it s initial roots of helping thy neighbor, it has
evolved into a significant multi billion dollar business, and has been well accepted by the general
public. Giving is world word in acceptance, and crosses all civilized borders.
The Federal Government has recognized the importance of charitable giving in (xxxx) in the tax
code by developing the 501 3C, which has become the biggest vehicle in which givers use to access
their charitable organization.
The need for Charity Minutes is simple. Charities are looking for ways to become sustainable,
which means for the most part they must seek alternative means for raising funds. The once or
twice a year (chicken dinner) fund raising event, the silent auction, and the annual golf tournament,
although sometimes successful, will not sustain them. Aid and grants from local government has
reached an all time low. Their influential board of directors of doctors, attorneys, Indian chiefs and
leaders of business, have less time to spend on boards, and have more difficulty with the goals of
attaining those sustainability dollars. Charitable donors now more than ever, are scrutinizing every
dollar they give and are asking the question, what are you doing to become sustainable.
Although the charities (non profits) have a good relationship with the (for profit) business
community, at

Secret Santa Research Paper
The Most Popular Secret Santa Gifts
The tradition of giving anonymous gifts at Christmas has its roots in Scandinavia, where Secret
Santa is known as Julklapp. This word is a compound of Jul (which means Christmas ) and Klapp ,
which means knocking. In Scandinavian countries, tradition dictates that a person knocks loudly on
the door, opens the door and throws the gift into the room or otherwise leaves it behind without
being seen.
Secret Santa events during the Christmas period have developed their own culture and rules. These
naturally depend on the variation on Secret Santa that applies. For instance, Secret Santa raids have
different rules from Trashy Secret Santas and different rules again than Secret Santa flash mobs.

Reflection: The Comparison of Solution Focus Family Therapy and Narrative Family Therapy
Solution Focused Family Therapy is a group treatment based on over twenty years of theoretical
development, clinical practice, and empirical research. Solution Focused Family Therapy is different
in many ways from traditional approaches to treatment. It is a competency based model, which
minimizes importance of past problems, and instead focuses on clients strengths and what has

Distribution Power Systems Project Analysis
B. Gupta et al. (2007) [32] Currently distributes systems support different computing paradigms like
Cluster Computing, Grid Computing, Peer to Peer Computing, and Cloud Computing all involving
elements of heterogeneity. These computing distributed systems are often characterized by a
variety of resources that may or may not be coupled with specific platforms or environments. All
these topics challenge today researchers, due to the strong dynamic behaviour of the user
communities and of resource collections they use. D. Card et al.(2007)[33] This paper presents a
review on distributed generation planning in the distribution power system networks from different

In this paper, with the help of the advanced automation and information technologies, a new
hydraulic regulation method was proposed to achieve on site hydraulic balance for the district
heating systems with distributed variable speed pumps configuration. The proposed method was
comprised of a new hydraulic model, which was developed to adapt the distributed variable speed
pumps configuration, and a calibration model with genetic algorithm. By carrying out the
proposed method step by step, the flow rates of all distributed pumps can be progressively adjusted
to their designated values. A hypothetic district heating system with 2 heat sources and 10
substations was taken as a case study to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method. Two
scenarios were investigated respectively. In Scenario I, the flow rate of one substation varied
according to its heat demand and the flow rates of other substations maintained their original
values. And in Scenario II, the flow rates of all substations varied synchronously with the same
relative rate. The results of the both scenarios indicated that all pumps could be properly adjusted to
their designated flow rates by the proposed method with a high frequency adjustment resolution as
0.001 Hz. H. F. Deng et al.(2007)[35] Currently, increasingly transactional requests require high

Interpreting the Handmaid s Tale
Interpreting The Handmaid s Tale
The Handmaid s Tale is distinguished by its various narrative and structural divisions. It contains
four different levels of narrative time: the pre Revolution past, the time of the Revolution itself, the
Gileadean period, and the post Gileadean period (LeBihan 100). In addition, the novel is divided
into two frames, both with a first person narrative. Offred s narrative makes up the first frame,
while the second frame is provided by the Historical Notes, a transcript of a lecture given by a
Cambridge professor. The distinctions in structure and narrative perspective parallel the separation
of Gileadean residents into different social roles.
Offred s narrative is mainly of the Gileadean period, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the instance of women in the novel, this power comes from their indispensable role in the
propagation of society. As Offred tells her story, she incorporates the stories of other women into
her narrative. Her voice multiplies to become the voice of women rather than the voice of a single
narrator (133). Thus, The Handmaid s Taleisn t just Offred s protest against her oppressive
condition, but the collective protest of every woman.
The Historical Notes comprising the second frame of the novel provide an important shift in
perspective. The Notes are a transcript of a lecture given by the professor, Darcy Pieixoto, at an
academic symposium on Gileadean Studies two hundred years after Gilead has become ancient
history. The reader finds out that Pieixoto and his colleague are the ones responsible for the
transcription and editing of the handmaid s story. (As it turns out, Offred s account is not actually
written, but recorded onto cassette tapes). Pieixoto treats Offred s story in a scientific and
detached manner. For him, her account is merely a resource for gaining knowledge of the former
Gilead Republic.
The shift from Offred as narrator to Pieixoto as narrator does two things. First, it signifies Offred
s inability to make her voice heard; the voice of the male narrator in the last part of the novel
threatens to drown out Offred s voice and the significance of her autobiography. Secondly, it leaves
readers with the challenge of

There is no minimum age to become an athletic trainer most start at early 20s and retire around
late 50s. There are mainly more physical demands than health. An athletic trainer needs to be
able to carry injured athletes, 10 gallon water containers, and medical kits. Completing physical
testing procedures of muscles and ligaments to all body joints, and taping procedures in a good
amount of time. Running across uneven field surfaces to care for emergency situations and
being able to perform CPR and First Aid procedures to an athlete that is injured. Athletic trainers
personalities should be decisive, confident, be able to listen and lead, observant, and be able to
remain calm in midst of a crisis. The more experience you have in these types of professions is
the better, because many employers will consider new graduates with no experience. They say it
is advised to gain experience during school, by having this experience it makes them competitive
candidates on the job market. A bachelor s degree is standard, and a master s degree is common.

History Of Native Americans
James K. Polk offered Mexico 30 million dollars for the land, but Mexico turned it down. Polk then
moves troops into a disputed zone between the Rio Grande and the Nueces Riverto. Mexico still
upset about Texas, responds by sending troops out and it results in the loss of 12 U.S. soldiers.
Polk uses this and gets Congress to sign off on a war and in the course of two years proceeds to
defeat Mexico. It ends with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed February 1848, which
essentially was the submission of all land north of the Rio Grande to the U.S. The U.S. erased
Mexico s debt to them, which was about 3 million dollars and proceeded to give Mexico 15 million
dollars for the land now acquired. This land would later be known as Texas (who... Show more

Later on that year, the Mexicans evicted all Americans from their property in the disputed
Mesilla Valley. In response, Governor William Lane of New Mexico declared Mesilla Valley as
apart of U.S. territory of New Mexico. Mexican President Antonio Santa Anna responded by
sending troops into the valley. U.S. President Franklin Pierce sends James Gadsden to negotiate
and resolve the issue. In need of money to fund an army to fight rebellions in Mexico, Santa
Anna agrees to 45,000 square miles for 15 million dollars. The treaty was later ratified by the U.S.
Senate to 29,670 square miles for 10 million dollars. It was signed on June 8, 1854.
The two countries were still in tense conflict but seemed to help the other in times of need. While
the U.S. was fighting in World War I, Mexicans were encouraged to migrate to help out with the

and refugees from Mexico during the Mexican Revolution (1910 1920). Also, times were changing
and farming was not a stable enough income so many Mexican migrant workers moved from rural
areas to those participating in mining and machinery. Along with the rapid increase of Mexican
immigrants into the U.S. for job opportunities and safe haven, were immigrants coming over from
many other countries for similar reasons. This higher density in population led to a rise in crime

Women Wear Veils In America
In America it is quite unusual to see women wearing veils. In some parts of the world it is odd to
see women with their faces exposed in public. Most women who wear veils every day are
Muslim; the veil is called a hijab. The word hijab means a screen or curtain. Muslim women
wear these veils for a few different reasons, to some it is a symbol of modesty, for others it is
forced on them either by law or by the men in their family. Middle Eastern countries such as
Turkey, Iran or Afghanistan have such laws. The women are only required to cover themselves
when they are in public. In their home they are allowed to keep their faces uncovered. Muslim
girls do not have to wear a veil until they reach puberty. In the mid 70s

The Main Factors And Effects Of The Movement Of Modernism
The movement of modernism is a movement that has been associated with the transformation of the
western societies through development of industrial societies that then resulted to the development
of cities. It is a movement that was conceived through the need to develop after the catastrophic
events of the world wars. One of the main factors that the modernism has influenced is the aspect of
architecture. The movement was developed as a way to reject and relinquish the traditional
procedures of planning and adopting better and new methods that are capable of improving the
social condition of people .

Persuasive Essay On Special Needs
Giving disabled individuals everything they want seems to be good when looking at it from an
outside point of view. However, after paying attention to the effects on the individual, it does not
always have positive outcomes. Special needs individuals should not be given everything, because
doing so deprives them of learningvaluable life skills.
Giving individuals with special needs everything they want more often than not makes them mean
because they are spoiled. When parents spoil their kids, the children often get in trouble at school,
which disrupts the class. While some parents think it is okay to spoil their kids, it can often lead to
violence behavior. Giving the individual everything they want leads to violence because they learn

This is what leads to theft, because when they go into a store they think everything they want in the

they took things that are not theirs instead of getting away with it because of their disability.
Special needs individuals should have the opportunity to speak for themselves. Someone always
speaking in their place will only hurt them in the long run. In order to learn how to communicate
with others, individuals have to be given the opportunity to talk. For example, a mom who
always speaks for their special needs child will hinder his or her ability to communicate without
an adult present. When the child grows older, they will not be able to speak for themselves and
will always rely on someone else. Many special needs individuals have difficulties ordering in
restaurants without the assistance of someone else as a result of his or her caretakers taking on
the role of speaking for the child. Speaking for a special needs individual instead of helping them
order prevents them from learning anything from it. Speaking for them does not help them in any
way because they are not learning how to do things on their own.
Math skills are skills that every person should learn. When math skills are not learned by children

Heterodox Hero Of Horror In Francis Lawrence s I Am Legend
Heterodox hero of horror
With protagonist and offbeat hero; Dr Robert Neville, Francis Lawrence breathes a fresh
nonconformity into the void of stereotypes that have too long permeated modern heroic cinema
Hayden Newell writes. n decades past, the notion of an African American,
I socially inept and mentally broken hero may very well have passed with a scornful chuckle from
Hollywood s gentry. Tasked with reinvigorating Richard Matheson s sci fi horror page turner; I am
Legend, Francis Lawrence puts this very notion into blockbuster filmic practice with 2007 s aptly
titled; I am Legend. Lawrence rewrites the doctrine of supremacy, violence and impenetrability that
has too long governed pop culture heroism, instead, defining his hero; protagonist and military
virologist Dr Robert Neville, with normal imperfections and a humanness so brilliantly atypical to
the banal muscly do gooder stereotype.
Neville, pertinently portrayed by A lister Will Smith, is left miraculously immune to a cancer cure
turned world ending virus, and takes upon himself the task of curing the remaining few, who have
been rendered zombies by the fateful virus. Indeed, Lawrence opts for nonconformity over
traditional definitions of the hero s journey , with Neville s quest commencing three years post
apocalypse, and the plot meandering along a sweeping narrative punctuated by turbulent flashbacks
to its punchy conclusion. Inevitably, archaic linear models stumble in their quest for relevance, as
Lawrence favours realism and modernity over obsolete archetypes. It is abundantly clear that
Neville is no traditional pro violence man of action, one may even argue that Neville is constructed
as a tragic hero with the loss of his family, or anti hero with his mental struggle, and certainly, the
protagonist exhibits certain traits that may allow these thoughts some weight. Though these time
honoured archetypes fall short of defining ultimately, the heterodoxy and rawness of Lawrence s
hero, Neville is a tormented man; a hero whose external battles dwindle in significance when
compared with his mental struggle, and whose uniqueness in itself challenges cinematic dogma.
Lawrence allows the viewer little time to settle in, launching directly into

Mistrust And Opinion Between Members Of The Grand Alliance
Why did the foundations for mistrust and suspicion between the members of the Grand Alliance

In 1945 the war had been fought on one side by the nations of Great Britain, USA and USSR, the
members of the Grand Alliance achieved victory in WW2. It was more important than ever the
victorious powers remained united as they faced the enormous task of reconstructing war torn

Curiosity to appear more grown up may be the reason why most adolescents take their first drink

The Health System As A Social Insurance System Essay
France is a European country with a population of approximately 66 million, which makes it the
second most populated country in Europe (Chevreul, Berg Brigham, Durand Zaleski, HernГЎndez
Quevedo, 2015). The average life expectancy at birth for the country is 82 years. Cancer and
cardiovascular disease are among the top causes of death in France (World Health Organization,
2015). Smoking and alcohol are the main causes of avoidable mortality. Overall, the level of health
in the French population is good (Chevreul, Berg Brigham, Durand Zaleski, HernГЎndez Quevedo,
2015). The health system is a social insurance system that is based on a combination of Statutory
Health Insurance (SHI) and volunteer health insurance. SHI is for the resident population.
Funding for SHI comes from income based contributions of employees and employers and from
tax on tobacco, alcohol, and pharmaceutical companies. This type of public financing is high in
France; therefore out of pocket spending is low. Because of a rapid growth in health care
expenses, over 75 percent of health care expenses are funded through SHI (Chevreul, Berg
Brigham, Durand Zaleski, HernГЎndez Quevedo, 2015). Coverage is universal and includes
hospital and outpatient care (both general and specialist), rehabilitation services, medications, and
medical appliances (Durand Zaleski, 2015). Volunteer health insurance has helped improve

Transmission Control Protocol (TCP):
Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol are two distinct computer network protocols.
A protocol is an agreed upon set of procedures and rules. When two computers follow the same
protocols the same set of rules they can understand each other and exchange data. Transmission
Control Protocol and Internet Protocol are so commonly used together, however, that Transmission
Control Protocol and Internet Protocol has become standard terminology for referring to this suite
of protocols.
Transmission Control Protocol divides a message or file into packets that are transmitted through
the internet and then re assembled when they reach their destination. Internet Protocol is
responsible for the address of each packet so it is sent into the correct destination.
Advantages of (TCP) :

individual machines and their software applications can provide.
Most of the benefits of networking can be divided into two generic categories connectivity and

The Law Enforcement Is Cracking Down Harder Than A Little...
These days, it seems like almost everyone you know is getting caught behind the wheel with a little
too much spirit. Law enforcement is cracking down harder than ever on drunk driving, to the point
where even one beverage could get you into big trouble!
So, what exactly are the stats? In 2012, in Arizona alone, there were 32,174 DUI arrests. In 2013,
the number was 31,892. And in 2014, there were 28,471 DUI arrests. While the numbers are
somewhat decreasing, they are still very high. (For more on these statistics see: DUI Arrests Down
for 3rd Year on Arizona Highways ).
The consequences of a DUI, driving under the influence, (also known as a DWI, driving while
impaired) are harsh. Below are the DUI Dos and Don ts you need to know in case you get behind
the wheel after drinking, get pulled over, and/or find yourself facing DUI charges:
DO know the amount of tolerable blood alcohol content (BAC) for you. If you are under 21, there

are permitted to drive with a BAC of .08%. If you are a commercial driver with a commercial

DO know the consequences if you refuse a chemical test. Arizona has an IMPLIED CONSENT

The System Of The Human Body
Introduction
The integumentary system is one of the largest and most integral organs in the human body,
encompassing many structures and playing key roles in the protection and general function of the
body (Zimmermann, 2014). As with everything however; things can go wrong, failures can occur
causing the system to function at a level below what is required of it. It is at this point where we
must be active in our response to these faults and subsequently utilise knowledge and techniques in
order to contain these failures and sustain human life.
Structure
Encompassing structures like; hair, nails, nerves and glands, the integumentary system is evidently
a hugely important and crucial organ within the human body (Science Net Links, 2015). Despite
containing all of these structures however, the main component of the integumentary system is the
skin. Consisting of three layers; epidermis, dermis and hypodermis, the skin plays key functional
roles in the control of temperature within the body, production of essential vitamins, housing of
sensory receptors, secretion of waste products and protection of the body (Kerr, 2010).
The epidermis is the most superficial layer of the skin, composed of keratinized stratified
squamous epithelium, providing a waterproofed protective layer over the epidermis (Moore,
Dalley, Agur 2010). The epidermis itself separates into several layers (Figure 1) at thicker areas of
skin, for example palms of hands (Carola, Harley, Noback, 1992).

Carbon 14 Dating
Evolution is described in many different ways, from a gradual development in social or economic
structure, to a change in the gene pool of a population from generation to generation. These
definitions tell people that evolution is diverse and depending on the context, it can mean
completely different things. For example a change in a gene pool can be very beneficial especially
when concerning genes that cause certain immunities to specific illnesses. But it can also mean that
a young child has evolved from his/her shy personality and is now a very outgoing person.
Scientists such as Charles Darwin, Charles Lyell, and Jean Baptiste Lamarck have theorised and
searched for information about evolutionand given provided the population of the world with large

One of the most commonly known fossil dating methods is carbon 14 dating. Carbon 14 dating
is measures the radioactive decay of carbon. Carbon has a half life of 5,568 years, so this can be

neanderthal man and ice age animals). Carbon dating is only reliable when going up to 60,000
years ago not back multiple million years ago. This is how dating fossils is an inaccurate and does
not support the modern theory of evolution.
Transitional species are species that show the intermediate states between an ancestral form and

zygote and a fetus. They have similar features but are still adapting, growing, and changing. This is
how transitional species supports the less extreme version of modern

Sight And Survival Of Sight
Sight, for many people, is the one sense they feel would be the most difficult to live without. We
rely on sight to read, find our way around, cook our meals, do our jobs, and consume our
entertainment. For many animals, their sense of sight is of vital importance for their survival.
For example, hawks and eagles rely on their incredible vision to spot prey from the sky. Large
predatory cats, such as lions and jaguars, will use their improved night vision to hunt
unsuspecting prey in the dark. The loss of sight means almost certain death for a large amount of
animals, as sight is mainly used for awareness of surroundings, avoiding predators, and hunting
prey. However, this is not to say that some creatures do not rely on sight to survive; many animals,
such as shrimp and fish in low or zero light environments have not evolved to have a sense of
vision, but instead rely on other senses to understand their surroundings, find prey, or avoid
predators. Then again, sight is so important for survival on Earth that it has independently evolved
across multiple species1; this is known as convergent evolution. As Darwin puts it, the eye, such a
perfect organ, being formed by natural selection seems ...absurd in the highest degree ,1 but true
nonetheless. Sight is one of the greatest and most complex marvels produced by natural selection.

The Effect Of Enzymes On The Enzymes
Background:
Enzymes are proteins with specific 3D conformations, or shapes, which allow them to interact with
specifically shaped substrates in an active site region. The function of enzymes is to speed up, or
catalyze, reactions by lowering the activation energy (EA). The two types of enzymes are catabolic
and anabolic; the former assists in breaking down substrate, while the latter assists in building up,
or combining, substrates.
At the molecular level, substrates must collide with enzymes with enough energy, at a specifically
shaped active site, in order for enzymes assist in turning substrate into product. An enzyme, with a
specific structure that determines its function, has a selective active site, in which only certain ...

Therefore, as time progresses and later into the trial, enzyme speed slows down, as more substrates
have been turned into products. This was demonstrated in the toothpickase lab, in which the graph
showed the derivative/slope of the broken down substrate molecules originally increasing and then
decreasing as time progressed. In conclusion, the amount of enzyme stayed constant, and the
amount of substrate decreased, while the amount of product increased.

The Last Report On Miracles At The Little No Horse
Family, peer influence, nature versus nurture, religion, and formal schooling all have an impact on
making individuals unique. With so many factors shaping one s identity, it is difficult to determine
which play the most pivotal role in one coming into their own. Most interestingly, identity is a
controlling factor in motivating one s behavior and actions. A common thread in shaping identity
across all cultures is the role of spiritual tradition. Through the characters in The Last Report on
Miracles at the Little No Horse, Louise Erdrich confronts individual and communal responses to
that reality. Since tradition is symbolic, not material, one can not physically hold on to their
tradition. In other words, an individual makes the conscious decision to allow or disallow tradition
to shape their own identity. Pauline Puyat is the product of cultural conflict, which shapes her
twisted, violent nature as a character, and through her Erdrich explores the winning of the west
from a non western perspective.
While some literary figures choose to continue along the lines of their cultural traditions, others find
flaws in traditional practices and decide to rebel against tradition. Marie Kashpaw. Defying tradition
is an interesting theme in literature, as well. Not all traditions should be continued, such as the

diabetes patients searching for a sweet taste. Because diabetes patients are drained of fluids, the
Greek philosopher Apollonius coined the term diabetes for the disease, which means to siphon or
to pass through. The name mellitus originated from Latin and was later added to the term
diabetes. (9) For thousands of years, little information was known about diabetes. The remedies
used at the time were largely ineffective, and many individuals died from diabetes after short life
spans. In 1776, Matthew Dobson discovered that the urine of diabetes patients contained increased
concentrations of glucose. In 1797, John Rollo recognized a link between diet and treatment of
diabetes. In 1812, the disease was clinically recognized in the New England Journal of Medicine
and Surgery, and the first laboratory tests were developed to measure the presence of sugar in urine.
(9) During the following two hundred years, the scientific community gained a greater
understanding of diabetes and its pathology, prevention, and treatment. In 1869, Paul Langerhans
identified various types of pancreatic cells. In the early 1900 s, a pancreatic substance was
extracted and termed insulin. In the 1920 s,

Society In The Belly Of Paris, By Emile Zola
In the modern Paris, society is divided into different classes of people, different jobs, and
different features of modern life. The Belly of Paris, written by, Г‰mile Zola is about a man
named Florent who was wrongly put in prison from Louis Napoleon s coup d etat. He escapes
from prison and returns from the countryside to find an unrecognizable Paris. The Belly of Paris
describes the class differences in the 1870s there is the bourgeoisie, which is defined as the
middle class, typically with reference to its perceived materialistic values or conventional attitudes;
the capitalist class who own most of society s wealth and means of production contrasted with the
lower working class. By portraying and describing characters as the food... Show more content on

It s the homeless people, who ve got nothing to lose... (147,149). The politics of the working
class are also in opposition to the bourgeois who are devoted to the government of the Second
Empire. As Lisa keeps consuming food, she increases her status and reputation as one of the
virtuous, honest citizens responsible for keeping an eye on Florent and others who are thin and
suspicious. As a result of having money, she has power, influence, and is respected by others.
Her power and influence gives her status and reputation in the Les Halles market community.
Through the description of the market politics and society, Zola portrays Lisa as someone who
everyone strives to be, except for some of the Thin people. The Thin believe the Fat are
corrupted and are taking more than their share of the wealth and power. Lisa is one part of the
political power dynamic, the other side is Florent a juxtaposition of the Fat and Thin. Florent
was seen as the outcast of modern Paris because he was thin and also because he had been in
prison. He had reconnected with his brother, Quenu, and met his family and they [Quenu, Lisa,
and Pauline] looked at him with the surprise of fat people gripped by vague feeling of unease at
the sight of someone who is thin. Even the cat, whose skin was distended by fat, turned its round
yellow eyes toward him in a glare of disgust

President Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglas, and Susan B....
After abolition of slavery, new challenges became present; one of them, the readmission of the
Southern states was required into the Union. The goal of Reconstruction was to readmit the
South on terms that were acceptable to the North full political and civil equality for blacks and
denial of the political rights of whites who were the leaders of the secession movement (Wormser,
2002). Easier said than done, reconstruction, in the sense originally though by President Lincoln
took many years to become a reality due to a series of issues. The Black codes permitted, although
dubious, displayed the resistance of the South, this and the lack of opportunities for blacks to owe
land, as well as the obstacles they encountered to vote... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Effects Of The Word Compromise
The word compromise is having a tremendous effect today in finding cooperation and negotiation
among us. The concept, regarding the word compromise, has influenced an immense amount of
negative feelings and questionable behavior in defense to the fear of defeat. The present impact on
the skill of productive compromise may be a lost art as many now feel that compromise is to
forsake their regarded beliefs, to extinguish intended objectives or the imposition of disheartening
settlement. House Speaker John Boehner is quoted, from his interview with 60 Minutes, as saying,
I reject the word, which shows today s consensus among most, when reacting verbally and
emotionally to the word compromise (Tannen 145). Political interference is included

Tumors And Tumors
Tumors and tumor like lesions usually been discussed in a large category, because their
appearances sometimes are similar and make differential diagnosis extremely difficult. But tumors
are non neoplastic lesions, while tumor like lesions are not, therefore, treatment and prognosis of

Imaging appearance of patellar GCTs is usually similar to the lesions occur in other sites(Singh et
al., 2009), and they are characterized in radiographs and CT as eccentric soap bubble like lytic
bone lesions, without sclerotic margins or mineralization, transition zone to normal bone is
narrow(Pluot, 2009). Pathologic fracture and septations are frequently reported, and the septations
are usually thin and may extend throughout the tumor(Singh et al., 2009). MRI provides more
details of the extraosseous extension cortical penetration and associated soft tissue mass than X
ray and CT (Singh et al., 2009). GCTs is typically demonstrated as low to intermediate intensity on
T1 weighted images and intermediate to high signal intensity on T2 weighted MRI(Pluot, 2009).
Fluid to fluid level indicates blood filled cavities of secondary ABC formation, and areas of low
signal intensity suggest haemosiderin depositions(Pluot, 2009). Completely resection the tumor and
patellectomy are the main treatment of GCT in the patella. Postoperative follow up is necessary to
detect local recurrence and remote metastasize (Malhotra, Sharma, Kumar, Nataraj, 2010).
Chondroblastoma Chondroblastoma is a cartilage neoplasm that typically occurs in the second or

  • 3. One of Ours by Willa Cather Margaret Elliot is beautiful, talented, critical, unsatisfied, tired of the world at twenty four (Great Short Works, 8). Engaged to a man she has no feelings for, life feels bleak and without purpose. She feels true love once with Eric, but just for a moment. For her whole life, Margaret had searched the faces of men for the look that lay in his eyes. She knew that look had never shone before, would never shine for her on earth again, that such lovecomes to one only in dreams or in impossible places like this, unattainable always. This was Love s self, and in a moment it would die (Great Short Works, 29). For Willa Catherthis is how love exists. Happy relationships are plentiful, but the enchanted, all encapsulating love of dreams only exists in glances. For Eric this glance is enough. He does not regret his decision or the damnation he is sure it will cause. For him a day shall be as a thousand years, and a thousand years as a day as his love lives on. In most cases, however love is not enough. Both Margaret and Claude, the protagonist of Cather s novel One of Ours feel this shimmer of love, but in the end must search for meaning elsewhere. Set in a small Nebraska farm town, One of Ours opens several years before the start of the First World War. Claude is unsatisfied with his simple life in the fields, and possesses an idealistic, romantic outlook that propels him to search for meaning on a much different field in Europe. • 7. Analysis Of The Book The Lottery Austin Walker Erickson English 12 20 November 2014 Blind Tradition Every society in the modern world has some form of tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation, and no matter what the custom is, people will continue to follow it due to the human nature to resist change. Even if there is an urge for change, it will likely be suppressed and seen as an act of rebellion as most people follow tradition simply because that s just how it is , and never seem to question why. Suzanne Collin s novel The Hunger Games and Shirley Jackson s short story The Lottery best illustrate this point by showing how a violent annual tradition affects a society and its innocent people. The Hunger Games has such uncanny similarities to The Lottery that it almost seems as if Collins used Jackson s story as a source of inspiration for her novel. Both The Hunger Games and The Lottery are extremely similar thematically in the sense that sheepishly following tradition can often be detrimental to society because it can lead to adverse consequences such as death, ignorance, and a society with no desire to change. Although both works are very much identical, the primary distinguishing characteristics are the setting and tone. The Lottery takes place in a small village with about three hundred inhabitants, while The Hunger Games involves a much larger post apocalyptic world consisting of thirteen districts known as Panem. The Federal Government has recognized the importance of charitable giving in (xxxx) in the tax code by developing the 501 3C, which has become the biggest vehicle in which givers use to access their charitable organization. The need for Charity Minutes is simple. Charities are looking for ways to become sustainable, which means for the most part they must seek alternative means for raising funds. The once or twice a year (chicken dinner) fund raising event, the silent auction, and the annual golf tournament, although sometimes successful, will not sustain them. In this paper, with the help of the advanced automation and information technologies, a new hydraulic regulation method was proposed to achieve on site hydraulic balance for the district heating systems with distributed variable speed pumps configuration. The proposed method was comprised of a new hydraulic model, which was developed to adapt the distributed variable speed pumps configuration, and a calibration model with genetic algorithm. By carrying out the proposed method step by step, the flow rates of all distributed pumps can be progressively adjusted to their designated values. A hypothetic district heating system with 2 heat sources and 10 substations was taken as a case study to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method. Two scenarios were investigated respectively. In Scenario I, the flow rate of one substation varied according to its heat demand and the flow rates of other substations maintained their original values. And in Scenario II, the flow rates of all substations varied synchronously with the same relative rate. The results of the both scenarios indicated that all pumps could be properly adjusted to their designated flow rates by the proposed method with a high frequency adjustment resolution as 0.001 Hz. H. • 13. Interpreting the Handmaid s Tale Interpreting The Handmaid s Tale The Handmaid s Tale is distinguished by its various narrative and structural divisions. It contains four different levels of narrative time: the pre Revolution past, the time of the Revolution itself, the Gileadean period, and the post Gileadean period (LeBihan 100). In addition, the novel is divided into two frames, both with a first person narrative. Offred s narrative makes up the first frame, while the second frame is provided by the Historical Notes, a transcript of a lecture given by a Cambridge professor. The distinctions in structure and narrative perspective parallel the separation of Gileadean residents into different social roles. Offred s narrative is mainly of the Gileadean period, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the instance of women in the novel, this power comes from their indispensable role in the propagation of society. As Offred tells her story, she incorporates the stories of other women into her narrative. Her voice multiplies to become the voice of women rather than the voice of a single narrator (133). Thus, The Handmaid s Taleisn t just Offred s protest against her oppressive condition, but the collective protest of every woman. The Historical Notes comprising the second frame of the novel provide an important shift in perspective. The Notes are a transcript of a lecture given by the professor, Darcy Pieixoto, at an academic symposium on Gileadean Studies two hundred years after Gilead has become ancient history. The reader finds out that Pieixoto and his colleague are the ones responsible for the transcription and editing of the handmaid s story. (As it turns out, Offred s account is not actually written, but recorded onto cassette tapes). Pieixoto treats Offred s story in a scientific and detached manner. For him, her account is merely a resource for gaining knowledge of the former Gilead Republic. The shift from Offred as narrator to Pieixoto as narrator does two things. First, it signifies Offred s inability to make her voice heard; the voice of the male narrator in the last part of the novel threatens to drown out Offred s voice and the significance of her autobiography. Secondly, it leaves readers with the challenge of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Special needs individuals should have the opportunity to speak for themselves. Someone always speaking in their place will only hurt them in the long run. In order to learn how to communicate with others, individuals have to be given the opportunity to talk. For example, a mom who always speaks for their special needs child will hinder his or her ability to communicate without an adult present. When the child grows older, they will not be able to speak for themselves and will always rely on someone else. Many special needs individuals have difficulties ordering in restaurants without the assistance of someone else as a result of his or her caretakers taking on the role of speaking for the child. Heterodox Hero Of Horror In Francis Lawrence s I Am Legend Heterodox hero of horror With protagonist and offbeat hero; Dr Robert Neville, Francis Lawrence breathes a fresh nonconformity into the void of stereotypes that have too long permeated modern heroic cinema Hayden Newell writes. n decades past, the notion of an African American, I socially inept and mentally broken hero may very well have passed with a scornful chuckle from Hollywood s gentry. Tasked with reinvigorating Richard Matheson s sci fi horror page turner; I am Legend, Francis Lawrence puts this very notion into blockbuster filmic practice with 2007 s aptly titled; I am Legend. Lawrence rewrites the doctrine of supremacy, violence and impenetrability that has too long governed pop culture heroism, instead, defining his hero; protagonist and military virologist Dr Robert Neville, with normal imperfections and a humanness so brilliantly atypical to the banal muscly do gooder stereotype. Neville, pertinently portrayed by A lister Will Smith, is left miraculously immune to a cancer cure turned world ending virus, and takes upon himself the task of curing the remaining few, who have been rendered zombies by the fateful virus. Indeed, Lawrence opts for nonconformity over traditional definitions of the hero s journey , with Neville s quest commencing three years post apocalypse, and the plot meandering along a sweeping narrative punctuated by turbulent flashbacks to its punchy conclusion. Inevitably, archaic linear models stumble in their quest for relevance, as Lawrence favours realism and modernity over obsolete archetypes. It is abundantly clear that Neville is no traditional pro violence man of action, one may even argue that Neville is constructed as a tragic hero with the loss of his family, or anti hero with his mental struggle, and certainly, the protagonist exhibits certain traits that may allow these thoughts some weight. Though these time honoured archetypes fall short of defining ultimately, the heterodoxy and rawness of Lawrence s hero, Neville is a tormented man; a hero whose external battles dwindle in significance when compared with his mental struggle, and whose uniqueness in itself challenges cinematic dogma. • 37. The System Of The Human Body Introduction The integumentary system is one of the largest and most integral organs in the human body, encompassing many structures and playing key roles in the protection and general function of the body (Zimmermann, 2014). As with everything however; things can go wrong, failures can occur causing the system to function at a level below what is required of it. It is at this point where we must be active in our response to these faults and subsequently utilise knowledge and techniques in order to contain these failures and sustain human life. Structure Encompassing structures like; hair, nails, nerves and glands, the integumentary system is evidently a hugely important and crucial organ within the human body (Science Net Links, 2015). Despite containing all of these structures however, the main component of the integumentary system is the skin. Consisting of three layers; epidermis, dermis and hypodermis, the skin plays key functional roles in the control of temperature within the body, production of essential vitamins, housing of sensory receptors, secretion of waste products and protection of the body (Kerr, 2010). The epidermis is the most superficial layer of the skin, composed of keratinized stratified squamous epithelium, providing a waterproofed protective layer over the epidermis (Moore, Dalley, Agur 2010). The epidermis itself separates into several layers (Figure 1) at thicker areas of skin, for example palms of hands (Carola, Harley, Noback, 1992). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Sight And Survival Of Sight Sight, for many people, is the one sense they feel would be the most difficult to live without. We rely on sight to read, find our way around, cook our meals, do our jobs, and consume our entertainment. For many animals, their sense of sight is of vital importance for their survival. For example, hawks and eagles rely on their incredible vision to spot prey from the sky. Large predatory cats, such as lions and jaguars, will use their improved night vision to hunt unsuspecting prey in the dark. The loss of sight means almost certain death for a large amount of animals, as sight is mainly used for awareness of surroundings, avoiding predators, and hunting prey. However, this is not to say that some creatures do not rely on sight to survive; many animals, such as shrimp and fish in low or zero light environments have not evolved to have a sense of vision, but instead rely on other senses to understand their surroundings, find prey, or avoid predators. Then again, sight is so important for survival on Earth that it has independently evolved across multiple species1; this is known as convergent evolution. The Effect Of Enzymes On The Enzymes Background: Enzymes are proteins with specific 3D conformations, or shapes, which allow them to interact with specifically shaped substrates in an active site region. The two types of enzymes are catabolic and anabolic; the former assists in breaking down substrate, while the latter assists in building up, or combining, substrates. With so many factors shaping one s identity, it is difficult to determine which play the most pivotal role in one coming into their own. Most interestingly, identity is a controlling factor in motivating one s behavior and actions. A common thread in shaping identity across all cultures is the role of spiritual tradition. Through the characters in The Last Report on Miracles at the Little No Horse, Louise Erdrich confronts individual and communal responses to that reality. Since tradition is symbolic, not material, one can not physically hold on to their tradition. In other words, an individual makes the conscious decision to allow or disallow tradition to shape their own identity. Pauline Puyat is the product of cultural conflict, which shapes her twisted, violent nature as a character, and through her Erdrich explores the winning of the west from a non western perspective. The Existence Of Diabetes Mellitus The existence of diabetes mellitus was first recognized by the ancient Egyptians and Greeks when individuals showed signs of excessive urination, rapid weight loss, and sweet tasting urine. Diagnosis was, therefore, made by designated water tasters, who drank the urine of potential diabetes patients searching for a sweet taste. Because diabetes patients are drained of fluids, the Greek philosopher Apollonius coined the term diabetes for the disease, which means to siphon or to pass through. The name mellitus originated from Latin and was later added to the term diabetes. (9) For thousands of years, little information was known about diabetes. The remedies used at the time were largely ineffective, and many individuals died from diabetes after short life spans. In 1776, Matthew Dobson discovered that the urine of diabetes patients contained increased concentrations of glucose. In 1797, John Rollo recognized a link between diet and treatment of diabetes. In 1812, the disease was clinically recognized in the New England Journal of Medicine and Surgery, and the first laboratory tests were developed to measure the presence of sugar in urine. A Brief Note On Vehicle Accident Avoidance System Vehicle Accident Avoidance System Sarker Md Shahabuddin 12 20473 1 Sec: B Motivation: Nowadays road accidents in modern urban areas are increased to uncertain level. The loss of human life due to accident is to be avoided. In this paper discuss about the vehicle accident avoidance system in highway safty. A vehicle proximity warning collision avoidance system is being developed using GPS and wireless local area networks to improve safety of off highway trucks in open pit mines.System warnings should result in a minimum load on driver attention. The use of a single low cost image sensor results in an affordable system which is simple to install. The control unit is instructed from the remotely controlled device and the range sensors that are mounted on the front and back sides. According to the required need, a specific operation is selected and performed. This is a new phenomenon using this we can reduce the road accident in highway and saves millions of life. The platoon system demonstrated a number of AHS features such as lane keeping, lane changing, longitudinal space and speed regulation using proved enabling technologies. The purpose of this study was to analyze if there is a regional variation in the risk of MVC death after controlling for injury severity. The development of collision avoidance systems is motivated by their potential for increased vehicle safety in highway. Tumors And Tumors Tumors and tumor like lesions usually been discussed in a large category, because their appearances sometimes are similar and make differential diagnosis extremely difficult. But tumors are non neoplastic lesions, while tumor like lesions are not, therefore, treatment and prognosis of these two groups of disorders are usually different. The incidences of tumors and tumor like lesions have big differences in literature, this may due to the classification of benign, malignant and non neoplastic conditions usually overlap (Casadei et al., 2013; Pluot, 2009). In addition, some cases are asymptomatic may give the possibility of ignorance, delayed or incorrect diagnose of these conditions (Casadei et al., 2013) also make the real incidence of... Imaging appearance of patellar GCTs is usually similar to the lesions occur in other sites(Singh et al., 2009), and they are characterized in radiographs and CT as eccentric soap bubble like lytic bone lesions, without sclerotic margins or mineralization, transition zone to normal bone is narrow(Pluot, 2009). Pathologic fracture and septations are frequently reported, and the septations are usually thin and may extend throughout the tumor(Singh et al., 2009). MRI provides more details of the extraosseous extension cortical penetration and associated soft tissue mass than X ray and CT (Singh et al., 2009). GCTs is typically demonstrated as low to intermediate intensity on T1 weighted images and intermediate to high signal intensity on T2 weighted MRI(Pluot, 2009). Fluid to fluid level indicates blood filled cavities of secondary ABC formation, and areas of low signal intensity suggest haemosiderin depositions(Pluot, 2009). Completely resection the tumor and patellectomy are the main treatment of GCT in the patella. Postoperative follow up is necessary to detect local recurrence and remote metastasize (Malhotra, Sharma, Kumar, Nataraj, 2010).
