Security Versus Privacy Essay
Security Versus Privacy
As a result of 9/11, our country has been faced with a new issue: electronic privacy. The terrorists
that attacked us used our own technology against us to protect their activities from our view.
Because of this, we are now forced to make a decision between two desirable things: privacy and
national security. On the one hand, our right to privacy will ensure that our personal rights are not
violated, whereas, on the other hand, national security would allow us some comfort against the
evil in the world. What are we supposed to do? This issue, however it is decided, will have
tremendous impact on each and every one of our lives. The ruling that the government makes
concerning this issue will greatly alter the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would eliminate the sheltering of illegal activities and allow increased, tighter surveillance of
cyberspace. Another similar solution would be to give the government a back door into all
areas of cyberspace. Basically, that would allow them to see whatever they want, whenever they
want. Encryption technology would not have to be eliminated, but it would be required to
include a government ?back door?, so that any encryption code can be quickly broken if the
need arises. A writer for the Christian Science Monitor put it this way: ?people are willing to
trade almost anything for increased security, if they think it would make a difference? (Grier).
Overall, however, this position is held by very few people. The last solution is the one that is
generally supported by those who favor the right of personal privacy. They propose that
everything should remain as it is. There will be some minor adjustments to the current encryption
technologies, but it will be allowed to exist free of any back doors or restrictions. In a debate of
the new Anti Terrorism Bill, Senator Patrick Leahy stated that ?as Ben Franklin once observed, ?if
we surrender our liberty in the name of security, we shall have neither?? (Leahy). This is the
position that is currently held by the Senate on the matter of internet security.
The first side of this issue involves those people that are strongly concerned for our

Sarastro In The Magic Flute
The Bergman film of Mozart s comic opera, The Magic Flute, talks about a prince named,
Tamino, who was attacked by a big serpent. Luckily, three ladies who are the servants of the
Queen of the Night saved him. Later on, the three ladies showed him a portrait of the queen s
daughter, Pamina, and Tamino instantly falls in love with her. The Queen of the Night promises
Tamino that he can have her daughter, if he can rescue Pamina who is imprisoned by the evil
Sarastro. Tamino agrees, and was given a magic flute by the three ladies. Papageno, who is a bird
catcher, also received a magic bell by the ladies. By the power of the magic fluteand the magic
bells, Tamino rescues Pamina and falls in love immediately. The film eventually exposes Sarastro
as a high priest and not an evil sorcerer. Sarastro protected Pamina from her mother who is filled
with ambition to dominate the world. In Act II, Sarastro imposes three tests on Tamino, if he
wanted Pamina. The first test is Silence. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you leave the big questions to the aristocracy then problems won t be solved, if it didn t affect
or concern them. Ordinary people are definitely capable to understand these problems if they are
willing to learn and become interested in it. The Queen of the Night represents a dangerous form
of preventing people to understand the truth and was often associated with Empress Maria
Theresa. Women with power are dangerous and unpredictable because they often like to compete
with other countries for power and status quo. Mozart did a very good job in drawing upon the
Queen of the Night trying to dominate the world, but justice was served to the Queen when a
thunderbolt struck her and she went to hell. Men of the upper classes does not necessary master
their passions and behave because having too much power often corrupts the

Analysis Of Caricature Of Humanity In The Runner
Caricature of Humanity The Runner by DeLillo tells of a self absorbed runner who is
witnessing a mysterious kidnapping without caring about it. The runner is a perfect portrayal of
uncaring citizens, who lack empathy with others unless they are directly connected to them.
While running, the narrator witnesses a car pulling onto the lawn, this is odd but he ignores it,
it appears he does not care about other people, he prefers to continue running. The narrator
notices that a car came off the road, bouncing onto the sloped lawn. (47) The runner is seeing a
car come off the road onto the grass in the park where he is running. Since the narrator is not
stopping to investigate he appears self absorbed and selfishly uncurious. The runner s neighbor
explains she, heard the car when it came over the curb. More or less bang on the grass. The father
gets out and takes the little boy. (49) His neighbor just witnessed a child being kidnapped, although
she does not know anyone involved, she assumes the kidnapper is the boy s father. The runner
seems disinterested in both the kidnapping and his neighbor s opinion. He seems to feel the
kidnapping shouldn t concern him; he wasn t kidnapped, and he didn t know who was. Why should
he care? What the runner doesn t realize is that this affects him emotionally and physically. This is a
community concern. Whether or not the father was the kidnapper the entire area becomes
concerned with safety. The runner, without thinking, crushes his neighbor s ideal situation even
though he does not seem to care about the kidnapping. The narrator questions his neighbor and
hears her response You can t be sure, can you? I saw them both and I saw the child. (50)When
asked if she was sure the father was the kidnapper the neighbor states she saw the mother, the child,
and the kidnapper. This implies that she does not know the real situation, but is merely projecting
the most ideal situation. The viewpoint of the neighbor is interesting because our main character
disagrees with the idea that the father was just taking his child. Although this is the ideal situation
for both the child and the bystanders the runner takes a cynical view. This most likely means he

Cross-Cultural Communication Vs American Culture
Cross Cultural Communication

Abstract
This paper is about comparing and contrasting the American style of communication and that of
Bahrain. Different countries have their own interpretation for every single issue based on their
culture background and their way of thinking. The most significant characteristics of American
culture are: individualism, equality, competition, freedom and privacy, action orientation,
directness, particularity, and a problem solving orientation. In Bahrain is somewhat the same as
other Arab countries, religion faith and local traditions play a large role in the people s lives,

events. Therefore they do a lot of plans to stay away from troubles. Also no one likes to take

Americans obey rules most of the time, but they see rules as someone else s idea of how they
should do things. They think the rule might have been appropriate in some other situation but it
might not be appropriate for their situation now. Therefore they break it and do what they think
is a better idea. Though Americans say, Rules are made to be broken, but they never say, Laws are
made to be broken. Laws are official legal and they proudly claim that in America, No one is above
the law . (Nussbaum, 2005, par 9)
In Bahrain popular people obey the rules, otherwise they will under the risk of detention. But
people who belong to the royal family and those are very rich, they do not care about rules or even
law they always break the law with any kind of accountability. In general, establishing business in
Bahrain is straightforward. The government of Bahrain vigorously seeks to increase foreign direct
investment in Bahrain especially from the United States and western countries. On other hand

Advantages Of Letter Folding Machines
First of all, every company in this business should have few things as their goal. Being fast,
efficient and cost effective is something that companies should be seeking. In this essay I ll try to
discuss about couple ways how to fasten and make mailrooms more effective and efficient. Letter
folding machines can save a lot time and somebody s effort. For instance if you are trying to send
a lot of commercial mails, we are talking about huge numbers here. Folding all these letters can be
really time consuming and tedious. All of this is completely unnecessary since today we have
automated folding machines. Moreover, there are letter opening machines as well. These machines
can also save so much time in our lives. Depending on machine, some can open couple hundreds...

It doesn t consume that much to work on it and it is quite. It also doesn t require that all the
envelopes are the same size; they can be mixed and different sizes which doesn t present any
problem for this machine. Paper folders will also save a lot time for the workers or someone who
holds a small mailing business. They are easy to handle and they have multiple folding options in
their systems. Moreover, these machines have great accuracy and precision that will satisfy all the
requiring needs for this job. It can fold more than seven thousand papers per one hour. In my
opinion this is called automation ! There is also a perfect solution for making a pressure seal
documents. These types of machines are called pressure sealers. They can seal over three thousand
documents per hour. It can be also used for confidential documents and forms, remittance advice

Dracula Compared To Modern Society
Why are people so obsessed with vampires today that they go crazy over any book, movie, or tv
show that has a vampire? In 1897, the year Dracula was published Britain was at the height of the
empire expanding. Britain had conquered huge expanses of land from Africa, Asia, and North
America and used the land for military and economic power. The rise of the United States and
European powers threatened to unseat Britain and the world s most powerful nation, at the time this
was occurring a rise in immigration brought unfamiliar races and cultures. Dracula, as an immigrant
from the easternmost edge of Europe represented many of the popular prejudices against outsiders.
A year after Dracula published, British author H.G. Wells exploited similar anxieties in his alien
invasion novel The War of the World s. When comparing vampires adaptation to modern society vs.
victorian society one can see the difference between sex, culture, and tradition through Bram Stoker
s, Dracula. In the time period Dracula was written victorian women either had two choices, be a
wife and mother or be a virgin and pure if she was neither of these she was considered a whore
and had no consequence to society. In Dracula Lucy was seen as a whore, her physical beauty
captivated each of her suitors and displayed a comfort playfulness about her desirability. Why can
t they let a girl marry three men, or as many as want her, and save all this trouble? (Bram Stoker
__). To Lucy it did not matter how she was

Personal Goals Influencing Marriage in the Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy
When one thinks of marriage, images of happiness, faithfulness, and unconditional love come to
mind. Marriages are not for allowing two lovers to accomplish personal goals, but rather for
faithful companions to live the rest of their lives together. In The Return of the Native, Thomas
Hardy presents the reader with two pairs of lovers that marry to accomplish personal goals, not
because of a mutual love and a desire to obtain a lifelong soul mate. Hardy reveals the true motives
governing the participants in the novels marriage alliances: Eustacia, Clym, Thomasin, and Wildeve

A bewildered Clym answers It is very beautiful. But will you be mine? . Eustacia then asks even
more questions about Paris, such as, Now tell me of the Tuileries, and the Louvre. (Page201).
Frustrated with the lack of a solid answer from Eustacia, Clym cries I hate talking of Paris! , but
this does not stop Eustacia s constant flow of questions about the city. This is definitely not the
expected response to a proposal of marriage, and further evidences that Eustacia is more interested
in a possible life in Paris than the love of Clym Yeobright.
Clym Yeobright also is interested in marriage to help carryout his own personal goals in life.
Before the two meet face to face, without the mummer costume, Clym is introduced to Eustacia
by Sam the turf cutter. Sam reports to Clym that Eustacia is a handsome girl (Page 183) and that
Clym ought to check her out. Clym s first response to this is, Do you think she would like to
teach children? (Page 183). This brief passage shows that when presented with the opportunity to
marry, Clym first thinks about the possibility that she would be willing to help him in his desire
to run a school. As the relationship between the two progresses, Clym talks to his mother about his
intent to marry Eustacia. Naturally, Mrs. Yeobright objects. The first words of defense to come
out of Clym s mouth are, She is excellently educated, and would make a good matron in a boarding
school...I can establish a good private

Vietnam War Language Analysis
Before the playing of the national anthem at each Bucknell University basketball game at Sojka
Pavilion this season men or women there is a vocal request for unity across the campus and the
nation. Despite the plea, the nation remains divided on cultural, moral and political issues that run
parallel to racial and ethnic lines. Such divisions were evident throughout the three day D.N.C.
Atlanta conference where both Tom Perez and Keith Ellison urged backers to unite and fight
President Trump and not each other.
You could argue that the country is more divided today than at any time since the Vietnam War. In
a survey of news stories over two days, it was difficult not to see why.

The Sex Trade Should Not Be Overlooked
The economic benefits of the sex trade industry encourage governments to overlook the negative
repercussions and effects. The sex trade is also referred to as human trafficking; The official
definition for this is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by
means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of
deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of
payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the
purpose of exploitation (What is Human Trafficking, 2013). This is a chronic issue worldwide that

The amount of money made from this harrowing business seems rather quixotic, but this issue
goes on day in and day out. After selling drugs and gun running, trafficking is the third largest
business world wide (Medina, 2007). The criminal running all these trades are very particular as
far as money goes. The price depends on the person; once the girls are brought to me by an
agent, I must pay from $350 to $400 for a virgin girl or $170 for a girl who is no longer a virgin
(Flamm 2003). Criminals place their workers in different ensembles; a virgin is far more costly
than a girl whom has been used. Once a women is purchased for sex, a trafficker can make five to
twenty time her purchase price (Cheung, 2009). These criminals make a lot of money off of this
organization of theirs, but they don t think about the fact that they are turning little girls into
hookers. Forced labor could amount to US $44.3 billion per year, of which US $31.6 billion are
made by exploiting trafficked victims. This confirms that modern slavery is a lucrative business,
which funds the expansion of international criminal groups, contributes to corruption, and
undermines the rule of law (Flamm, 2003). This all shows what the world is coming to; men will
go out of their way to denounce women and children for money. The criminals involved in this sick
organization should be put behind bars with no parole. There are reports that many

Governmental Involvement In The War On Drugs
As a person uses drugs, the brain adjusts to excesses of dopamine, subsequently reducing the
amounts, in turn lowering the ability of cells in the reward circuits in response. Consequently this
reduces the high quality in comparison to the initial usage. The effect, known as tolerance, causes
users to increase their dosage to achieve a similar high leading to addiction. Long term use causes a
change in chemical systems, and massive health issues such as birth defects, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis
and other infectious diseases, cardiovascular effects, respiratory effects, gastrointestinal effects,
musculoskeletal effects, other organ damage, neurological effects, mental health effects, possible
amputations due to infected cites, and death (WebMD). So why would anyone do drugs? Other
than coping mechanisms, curiosity, and peer pressure, governmental involvement may indirectly
help stabilize drugtrade, leading to more drug popularity. While genetic and environmental factors
such as economic status, etc., interact with critical development stages concerning addiction, the
factors above are a general overview found in textbook. More concerning however, is governmental
involvement. As their presence contributes largely to addiction, such as the legalization of alchol,
nicotine, and prescription drugs, the media, glorifying usage, and their strategies in the War on
Drugs. Legal intoxication are a huge problem as the drugs are either completely legal or not
commonly prohibited, which can

The Drug Crisis Of Colombia
It is astounding how a group of traffickers in Colombia have been able to keep a drug trade
business going despite the government rejections. The traffickers started off with importing
marijuana into the United States, and later turned to cocaine. The amounts of drugs being traded
also grew rapidly. ...shipments grew from individuals carrying small amounts of large quantities on
boats and low flying airplanes (Gilmore). The growth of drug trade in Colombiacreated two cartels,
one that was led by Medellin and one led in Cali. Soon enough, the drug industry became so
powerful that it influenced the country politically through threats, political contributions, and
bribery. This power created conflict throughout the country creating violence which resulted in
hundreds of deaths. It had resulted in complete chaos since the country was overpowered by illegal
drugs. Despite Colombia s strong republic government today, the drug trade problems have been
escalating for the past 20 years resulting in the U.S involvement. Colombia has been known to be
the perfect place for contraband and illegal drug activities, the vast mountain ranges made it
impossible for any government to control its trade. Colombia gives licit and illicit business access
to four major neighbors to the south, and two oceans and Central America to the north (Colombia).
With these resources, Colombia has smuggled many things to other countries including drugs, arms,
liquor, cigarettes, and many other things. It

The Sniper And The Man He Killed
Wars never hurt anybody except for the people who died Salvador Dali, leader of the Surrealist
Movement. In both stories men who are at war are described, both of these men have killed a
man who are known as their foes. Both of the men realize that the man they killed could ve been a
friend, and were someone who really wasn t the enemy. The relationship between these two stories
is that war can tear families apart. In Liam O Flahertys The Sniper and The Man He Killed by

similarities of plot between both stories, for example, both of the men are soldiers at war. As an

The similar theme is that war changes people and tears them apart due to the pain and suffering
of the war. Cursing the war, cursing himself, cursing everybody (O Flaherty 208). The quote
helps show that the war may cause you to curse things you never would ve before, like, yourself.
And from the poem He thought he d list perhaps/ Off hand like just as I/ Was out of work, had
sold his traps/ No other reason why (Hardy 16 20). This tells how war can force people to make
erratic decisions, it changes your attitude and morals about any situation including joining the army
and going to war. The differencebetween the two stories is that in The Sniper it turns him against
his family and in The Man He Killed it turned the soldier against his friends. To prove this, Then
the sniper turned over the dead body and looked into his brother s face (O Flaherty, page 208).
Again this tells of the shock the sniper received when he saw it was his brother he had killed.
But in the opposing story Yes, quaint and curious war is!/ You shoot a fellow down/ You d treat
if met where any bar is/ Or help to half a crown (Hardy 17 20). It explains of how he killed a man
that the soldier would have befriended in any other situation. All in all, you can see both the
similarities and differences in both stories

Children With A Single Parent Home
Today children that are raised in a single parent home are viewed differently than those who have
both parents when being raised. Many think that having both parents at home is very important
and the ideal family. In the world today more than a third of the population is being raised with
only a mother. These calculations have doubled over time and keeps growing as the days go on
(Anderson, 2013). Some say that being raised by only one parent is impossible, but by statistics
it is proven wrong. It is more common for children to be raised with only one parent than it is for
them to have both parents under one roof. Many parents get divorced, or one gets deathly sick or
passes away. Others just leave there children because they don t want them or simply can t
provide for the child. Children grow emotionally stable and well off whether they have one or
two parents at home to show them how life goes and the right paths to take. There are many
problems and challenges when a child is raised by only one parent versus having both a mother
and a father. Does a child need both parents to live in the society we have today? Does a single
parent get any help when raising a child alone? When researching and gathering evidence this topic
has become an intriguing argument all around the world today. What do you really need when
raising a child properly? When properly raising a child it doesn t really matter how the structure of
the familyis, it should be based on the values and morals

Popular Culture And Social Media Essay
Popular culture was, and perhaps still is, seen as a touchy and risky topic that should not be
experimented in by many educational institutions. Callahan and Low (2004) point out that popular
culture is looked upon unfavorably due to its fluid nature and habit of putting teachers in zones
outside their expertise and familiarity (p.52). Additionally, as described by GutiГ©rrez (2011)
popular cultureand the fandoms that inevitably followed were believed to create a single path by
which the individual merely payed tribute to a source material without having ever gained or
learned anything in return (p.227). Furthermore, Hull and Stornaiuolo (2010) assert that formal, or
standardized, schooling is skeptical of the potential educational value while magnifying the
potential risks of popular cultureand social media (p 85), perhaps prompting instructors to stick to
traditional techniques in lieu of potential dangers, to both students and their own job security. Why
then, despite the potentially debilitating aspects of popular culture in the classroom, do some
teachers still choose to incorporate them? Admittedly, I observed very few instances of pop culture
implementation during my first field experience, however those that did incorporate popular culture
did so naturally, enthusiastically, and so masterfully that it was without a doubt beneficial when
compared to classes that were kept material dry and by the books. Therefore, the real question

The Youth Through Prevention And Detection,...
Abstract
Juveniles navigate through a corrections system that is constantly changing. This research paper is
dedicated to those that work with the youth through prevention and detection, rehabilitation, and
establishing a future for juvenile justice. I will be focusing on what causes youth to become
involved in the juvenile justice system, how we can help them get back on track and how to keep
them moving forward in the right direction. In addition, the rehabilitation of the juveniles is
fundamental to their success how it is determined whether they are eligible for rehabilitation
services and how the methods are decided will be key to the final determination on success.
Finally, through research on the various ways we currently educate and reprimand our youth, I will
be identifying how effective we currently are and what we can do differently to become more
effective.
Sam, a four year old preschool student, has been identified as an at risk child after a referral from
his teacher. The student exhibits anti social behaviors, temper tantrums and aggression toward
students and teachers. How has the teacher come to the conclusion that this child was indeed at
risk ? Who will this referral be sent to? How will this child be helped? Through studies on young
children in a variety of structured settings, numerous factors have been identified that lead children
to become offenders. Organizations have begun implementing programs to determine the best way

The Morphology Of Species Of Snakes
The term morphology refers to a division of biology that looks at the forms of living organisms
and the relationships between them and their physical structures. In terms of morphology, snakes
are quite interesting, especially when it comes to venomous snakes of Kansas. Here, we will
describe snakes, their structure, what they eat, how often, reproduction, habitat and other
interesting facts about snakes in general. Then, we will examine closely venomous snakes that
are indigenous to Kansas. Snakes are elongated, flexible, and limbless reptiles from the suborder
Serpentes. There are approximately 2,900 different species of snakes. There are around 700
different species of venomous snakes and 250 of these are able to kill a human with a single bite.
Snakeare generally carnivorous. They eat various items such as termites, birds, eggs, mice,
rabbits, and other reptiles/mammals. Snakes do not chew their prey; they swallow it whole and
their moveable maxillary allows them to swallow large prey three times the size of their heads.
They have rear facing teeth which helps them keep their prey captive until they can swallow it.
Some venomous snakes will inject their prey with venom while constricting snakes will squeeze
the breath from their prey until they die. Snakes do not need to hunt food every day because they
only eat once or twice per week. Large snakes such as anacondas and pythons can survive for up to
an entire year without food. Mostly snakes hunt at

Theme Of Love In Ethan Frome
Ethan Frome was novel about a love story that could not be fulfilled, because the characters that are
having the secret love story are already married or about to be married. The theme that was shown
the most through the book was love. This theme was talked about a lot during the book with two of
the main characters. Between the three main characters one was the string through the whole novel
and that was Zeena. The way Ethan life turn out is because of the choices he has made he cause
everything that has happen to him. Everything can change with just one decision you make. The
theme lovewas shown when Ethan and the person, who lives in his house so she can help his sick
wife with things she needs to be done, falls in love with each other but they have to hide it from
everybody. One day they were walking home together and the book shows symbolism through
what happens. In the book it says, A dead cucumber vine dangled from the porch like the crape
streamer tied to the door for a death, and the thought flashed through Ethan s brain: If it was there
for Zeena Then he had a distinct sight of his wife lying in her bedroom asleep, her mouth slightly
open, her false teeth in a tumbler by the bed. (Wharton 21). The cucumber vine symbolised his
wife being dead but she really was not dead just sick. This helps with the theme because at first
Ethan think him and Mattie can be together but then realises his wife is still alive, The motif that
help clarify the theme is

Comparing Christianity, Morality In Islam, And The Bible
What is the meaning of life? Is there a universal source that serves as an instruction manual to direct
each person s life? Time has shown that multiple sources have found their own answers on the
purpose of human existence, and the most helpful answers derive from religious roots. Specifically,
Islam and Christianity both give answers to the questions of humanexistence and morality through
their holy scriptures, The Qur an in the Muslim faith, and the Bible in the Christian faith. While
the Bible and the Qur an offer helpful instruction to the lives of the followers of their respective
religions and stand out as long lasting pieces of literature, the two books differ on their bases for
morality due to key differences in the story each book

Major Literary Forms In The New Testament
Define and describe the major literary forms (genres) contained in the New Testament?
The New Testament contains several different genres but not as many as the Hebrew bible,
Gospels the only literary category that was invented by the early Christians. Gospel was a Greek
word meaning evengelion or good news . Gospel tells the story of Jesus his ministry death and
resurrection. In the Greek speaking times Evangelion was used to announce public news of the
Roman emperor and to denote Jesus teachings and his life.
A gospel involves the words and good deeds of Jesus and there forms are not shaped by
biographical consideration but by their author s theological viewpoints or a study of God. By
placing the four gospels at the beginning of the New Testament, there are four different
interpretations by four different authors.
Letters are the second literary form, the New Testament has twenty one letters that offer views of
Christians in there difficulties in following Jesus, these letters were written between 30 60 CE.
The book of Revelations is another major literary form also known as the apocalypse or
unveiling, Revelations features the unseen world inhabited by both good and evil creatures and
urges us as believers to follow Christ each and every day and to always have faith in him. As we
study the books we find numerous apocalyptic concepts involving eschatology or study of worlds

Value Prposition
r
Value proposition
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Creating a value proposition is part of business strategy. Kaplan and Norton[1] say Strategy is based
on a differentiated customer value proposition. Satisfying customers is the source of sustainable
value creation.
Developing a value proposition is based on a review and analysis of the benefits, costs and value
that an organization can deliver to itscustomers, prospective customers, and other constituent
groups within and outside the organization. It is also a positioning of value, whereValue = Benefits
Cost (cost includes risk)[2].

Strong value propositions are also expressed from the customer s perspective and talk about the
experiences and benefits that they will have when using the product.
[edit]Competitive Advantage
A product with a successful consumer value proposition is directly linked to a products actual and
sustained performance versus competition. The two main attributes that allow consumers to
differentiate among products are price and quality. Finding the correct balance between these two
attributes usually leads to a successful product. If a company is able to produce the same quality
product as its direct competition but sell it for less, this provides a price value to the consumer.
Similarly, if a company is able to produce a superior quality product for the same or a slightly
higher but acceptable price, the value to the consumer is added through the quality of the product.
A product must offer value through price and/or quality in order to be successful.

Constitution. New federal laws have buckled down on immigration, however this does not affect
sanctuary cities. Sanctuary cities do not have to follow the exaggerated immigration laws, due to
the tenth amendment. The tenth amendment separates federal and state powers, meaning that the
states have jurisdiction in sanctuary cities. Referencing the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, the
Amendment prevents the federal government from coercing state or local governments to use their
resources to enforce a federal regulatory program ... Similarly to how the tenth amendment protects
sanctuary cities from federal law, it also protects them from the federal government attempting to
force sanctuary cities to provide information. For this reason, sanctuary cities keep a don t ask, don

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center assures that, Congress cannot compel state or local

Fats in the American Diet Essay
Fats in the American Diet There has been a myth in our society for the last few decades about
fats. Ever since the USDA created the food pyramid in the early 80 s, the feeling towards fats has
been that all types are bad for one s health and should be consumed at a minimum. However, more
recent studies have shown that not all fats are detrimental, and some are necessary in maintaining
healthy bodies. Certain types are helpful for reducing the risk of cancer, high cholesterol, and heart
disease. Without fats the body could not absorb vitamins A, D, E, and K because they help move
the supplements into the bloodstream where the vitamins get absorbed (Graham par. 2). Simple

Foods with high fat content were placed at the top of the pyramid and said to be consumed at a
minimum. Foods with lots of carbohydrates were situated at the bottom and became the basis for
the American diet. In turn, the obesity rates for our country sky rocketed. Now it is believed that
some types of fats are good for the body and one of these is monounsaturated fats. There are two
types of unsaturated fats, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. All fats are composed of long
carbon chains with a maximum of two hydrogen atoms attached to each carbon. Monounsaturated
fats have one hydrogen atom missing from the carbon chain while polyunsaturated fats have two
missing (Good Fats par. 3). Polyunsaturated fats come in two types, omega 3 and 6, and these
types will be looked at later. Monounsaturated fats are not essential fatty acids (EFA s) because the
body can make this form from other fats and are commonly found in most of fat rich foods.
Otherwise, essential fats must be consumed through the diet. Monounsaturated fats can be found in
cooking oils like canola, olive, peanut, and almond. Foods with higher levels of monounsaturated
fats are nuts, peanut butter, meat, olives, and avocados. There are many positive aspects of
monounsaturated fats that were not realized years ago. Monounsaturated fatty acids lower total

Human Nature In Shakespeare s Hamlet
To, be or not to be, is one of William Shakespeare s most notable inquiries regarding the self in the
tragedy Hamlet (3.1.56). Hamlet is one of Shakespeare s most complicated characters, in that the
audience is able to view Hamlet s internal struggle. By orchestrating chaos, Shakespeare creates an
environment in which the male characters; Hamletand Claudius, are free to contemplate and express
their respective nature. However, when it comes to Gertrude; Hamlet s mother and initial instigator
of Hamlet s conflict, there is no interior examination. There is only recognition of her sexuality, and
the chaos that ensues from her decision to lay with Claudius. So why does someone so interested in

84). Already the concept of human nature alludes to a hierarchy. Those of a wealthier status are
more capable of attainting culture, and therefore able to cultivate their nature. This may be one of
the reasons why women, who were seen as imperfect men, did not have the freedom to explore
their interiority (Marquis 1257). Women were not made in the image of God, but rather: she is the
image of man in a restrictive and analogical sense, because woman was made from man, after man,
inferior to him and his likeness (Farber). Women were by design lower in the hierarchy. Not only
did the Renaissance now contemplate the self, but they also found celebration of the self. Cultural
historian, Jacob Burckhardt, argues that: In the Middle Ages, man was conscious of himself only
as a member of a race, people, party, family or corporation only through some general category
(Burke 193). During the Renaissance, however: ...this veil first melted into air...man became a
spiritual individual, and recognized himself as such (193). Man could now be a spiritual individual
outside of the theological realm because of this humanist movement of the Renaissance. This idea
was simplified by the Renaissance Italian philosopher, Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, in his work
Oration on the Dignity of Man. He believed that

Comparing Einstein, Hitchcock, And Irving Berlin
Many immigrants across the country have contributed to making the society we are familiar with
today. They have helped in small and big ways. Albert Einstein, Alfred Hitchcock, and Irving Berlin
are just three of the most famous immigrants that have made the biggest differences in various
ways. Immigrants have positively impacted science, music, and technology in many ways in the
United States. Immigrants like Albert Einstein have forever changed how we learn science.
Einstein has provided evidence for the atomic theory, and he proposed the special theory of
relativity, wave theory, and photon theory (Goldenstern 51) (Anirudh). In Einstein s special theory

Theme Of Envy In The Faerie Queene
Envy is a sin that poisons the sinner and is self destructive in nature. The common perception of
envy is that it is an emotion that, much like jealousy, that comes from a desire to possess
something that someone else has. However, envy goes a step further and causes an individual to
not only desire what someone else has, but to also wish that the other person did not have it at all.
Spenser uses the conventional view of envy stated above in conjunction with some unconventional
imagery in order to elaborate on the nature and implications of being an envious person. In doing
this Spenser is able to teach to reader an aspect of envy that they may not already know or
understand. In his portrayal of envy in book one of The Faerie Queene, Spenser is trying to convey
to his readers that people who are envious are trapped in and endless cycle of envy that leads to
nothing but unhappiness and misery. Spenser s interpretation of envy, like the other deadly sins
in the house of pride, can be broken down into 4 images: the animal that he rides, his appearance,
how he behaves, and the ailment he has. This paper will use the first three of these images to
show how Spenser s depiction of Envy is meant to teach the reader that the sin of envy can only
lead to perpetual unhappiness and misery. The animal that Spenser chooses to have Envy ride in
on is a ravenous wolfe. (The Faerie Queene, I.iv.30.2) It is interesting that Spenser describes Envy

fetus (Jaworska Tannenbaum, 2013). Aside from the relationship of Jessica and her fetus which
may prevent her from terminating, this theory is also applicable in this case to Marco and
Jessica, as he is going to support any decision that she makes based on their relationship. It can
also be applied to the physician patient relationship, so Dr. Wilson must respect Jessica s and
Marco s rights as parents and their choice because of their relationship. Because moral status has
to do with which beings have value or rights, I tend to agree with the theory of sentience. I believe
that animals do have rights, especially in terms of biomedical ethics and research. I may, however,
seem hypocritical in this belief because I am not a vegetarian. But in this case, based on this theory
I would be likely to terminate the pregnancy at this early stage due to the severe disability and

China s Contributions To America
China, the second leading exporter in the world, is known for their immense role in the United
States economy. Without China s contribution to the U.S. economy, the United States would suffers
tremendously. This is the same case for China, the contributions from foreign companies is a big
reasons for China s success. The relationship between these two superpowers were not always very
strong. For years the United Statestrade system was not a very compelling situation for other
countries to do trade. As the United States evolved into the superpower country they faced a lot of
complications. For the United States of America to remain one of the world s most powerful

The united states has numerous amounts of factories in china for the production of goods at the
cheapest price possible. With Americans relying on the basic price of an item, say the price of an
iPhone, without manufacturing this in china at the lowest wage several americans would simply
not be able to buy these luxury items. This is the case for not just luxury items but for all items
like plastic silverware, furniture, backpacks and many other items. If the United States were limit
the amount of imports from china the entire economy would change. Not just because of the
increase in prices but small businesses would be affected as well. For example say a small self
owned restaurant budgets themselves on how much the plates, silverware, and napkins cost.
Without imports from China these prices would jump immensely resulting in the owner to either
increase the price of the product or they will begin to lose

Essay On Muscle Injury
You often hear about athletes who are unable to play their sport due to a pulled hamstring. In fact,
a pulled hamstring is one of the most common muscle pulls or muscle injury. Your hamstrings are a
group of three muscles that help extend your legs at the hip and flex them at the knee. A pulled
hamstring is a strain or tear in the muscles or tendons.
To understand what causes a hamstring injury you have to know how muscles work. All muscles
work in pairs to perform a task. One set of muscles contracts to exert force while the other set of
muscles relaxes. The hamstring muscles located at the back of the thigh, work with the quadriceps
muscle group in the front of the thigh. When you want to bend your leg, the hamstring muscles
contract and the quadriceps muscles relax. Conversely, when you want to straighten your leg, the
quadriceps muscles contract and the hamstring muscles relax. ... Show more content on

This frequently happens with the hamstring muscles. The quadriceps muscles are usually much
more powerful, so the hamstring can become fatigued faster. A fatigued muscle cannot relax as
easily when its opposing muscle contracts, leading to strains.
Muscle strains are overuse injuries that result when the muscle is stretched without being properly
warmed up. An injury to the hamstring is usually readily apparent. Mild strains may involve
simple, uncomfortable tightening of the muscle. More severe injuries may result in a sharp pain
in the back of the thigh, usually in full stride. A rupture or tear may leave you unable to stand or
walk, muscles may be tender to the touch and painful to stretch your leg. Within a few days after a
tear the area may appear very bruised.
Remember RICE and you will know the immediate treatment protocol for many sports related
injuries, including hamstring pulls or

The Effect of Global Warming on Thermohaline Circulation
The Effect of Global Warming on Thermohaline Circulation
Kabir Rao1
[1] Industrial activities, such as fossil fuel burning and other human activities such as tropical
deforestation have increased greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere. Increasing global
temperatures are likely to have extreme effects on global climate and may result in species
extinction, changes in agricultural production and deleterious effects on health. Studies have been
conducted in recent years on the effects of increase of greenhouse gases on the thermohaline
circulation. There are several hypotheses that state that the prolonged effect of global warming
could eventually shut down the thermohaline circulation and lead to cooling in certain regions in ...

3. Global Warming
[5] The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), in February 2007, submitted a 21
page report assessing the effect of global warming on global climate. The report stated that: most of
the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid 20th century is very likely
due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations . Emission of infrared
radiation warms the Earth surface; the phenomenon is known as the Greenhouse Effect. The
dominant infrared absorbing gases in the Earth s atmosphere are water vapor, carbon dioxide (CO2)
and ozone (O3). The interactions between greenhouse gas molecules and radiation can be explained
by quantum mechanics. CO2 and O3 molecules have vibration motions whose quantum states can
be excited by collisions at energies encountered in the atmosphere. Industrial activities, such as
fossil fuel burning and other human activities such as cement production and tropical deforestation
has increased the carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere. CO2 is also a byproduct from
automobiles,

Compare and Contrast Essay
How comparable is the american culture along with the filipino culture?America has its similarities
with the Filipinos, but the american culture did not really begin until it individualized itself from
the british in 1776. This is a similarity with the Filipino culture because they were colonized by the
Europeans as well as the Americans then gaining their independence in 1946: with the help of
america. Different culture are fascinating because they can be compared and contrast due to the
physical location, the social practices, and the ideology are remarkably different.
There are a couple factors that make up physical location in culture. The primary factor is the

Hip hop is an art form that came out of a troubled time in American history especially in the Bronx.

the beginning, hip hop culture started and spread because of the changing economy and hard times
for all, soon graffitiand hip hop culture became a statement throughout the world and was a media

Black and Puerto Ricans were always playing the Conga. Always had it the rhythms. This shows
that the people came together in the Bronx even though they were such different cultures. The
diversity of the people of the Bronx and the fact they came together helped adapt when the hip hop
movement started. Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, Dj Herc were accepted because the
people of the Bronx loved music and dance. As de industrialization progressed many people in the
Bronx started having outdoor parties and plugged their stereos into lamp post. This activity and the
parties brought many people from different cultures together because of the hard time the Bronx
were facing. The parties gave hope to the people of the Bronx. The changing economy brought
many changes to culture and inspired the hip hop movement partly. In Mark Nason s lecture he
talks about how many people adapted hip hop culture such as beat boxing because of hard times
and schools losing their music and art programs. The young people of the borough, deprived of the

important mission in Betsileo. The English though, have had a long history of missions in

French Protestants were successful in the Northeastern Cape Colony, and in the French Congo

Newborn Care Interview Essay
A/B Test for Client X: Newborn Care App I believe an infographic would be an ideal digital
marketing tool to get information about the app to new mothers. New mothers, and fathers, are
figuring out their new routines, and how to manage their time while getting very little sleep. New
mothers spend a lot of time sitting down feeding their baby. I don t think they are enjoying many, if
any, extended internet surfing sessions. They are more likely quickly scanning Facebook, or
Instagram to post more pictures of the new addition, or reading the comments about the pictures
that were posted previously. These new mothers are not going to spend a lot of time digging for
information. Therefore, an infographic would get the important bullets of how this tracking app
could help manage and create routines. The infographic should be A/B tested. Assuming the app
has been tested sufficiently, my recommendation would be to test when the campaign starts. I
believe that having a product available now instead of having to read about it, and then wait is
critical for a new motherwhose life has been altered drastically. They likely don t have the time, or
care to remember something they read about previously. The versions of the A/B test infographic
could include one with a picture of a smiling,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lincoln s Second Reconstruction
President Lincoln has always been a strong believer of free labor and antislavery, but he loved the
Union more. Lincoln understood that liberating slaves to the war could challenge both freedom and
the union. Not only that but effect military recruitment in the North. In August 1861, Union
General John General John C. Fremont commanded federal troops in Missouri to emancipate on
all slaves in his jurisdiction. Though Missouri was still a part of the Union, it was a slave state.
This leading to a bloody battleground between the Union and Confederate. Fremont s order
surpassed the requirements of the First Confiscation Act. This Act only freed slaves who had
participated in the Rebel War or who had master that were disloyal to the Union. Lincoln was
furious with Fremont for not following the Confiscation Act. This caused Lincoln to cancel the
order and the general to resign. A growing uneasy Congress, where Republicans dominated, pushed
Lincoln on emancipation; later on Congress passed the Second Confiscation Act. This law gave
Union commanders the right to capture slave property as their armies marched through confederate
territory. This Act helped resolve with the problem of slaves who fled to the Union. When Lincoln
presented the emancipation proposal to his cabinet, there was little support. Secretary of State

defined as a fundamental component of this organization in which individuals, occupying defined
statues, are regulated by social norms, public opinion, law and religion (Amato 2004, p.961).
Social institutions are meant to meet people s basic needs and enable the society to survive.

The definition historically is people related by blood, marriage, or adoption . The U.S. Census
defines family as a group of people united by the ties of marriage, blood, or adoption and
constituting a single household . William Goode, a sociologist who did research on family life,
marriage and divorce, defines family as at least 2 adult persons of opposite sex who reside
together, have division of labor, engage in economic and social exchange, share many things in
common, have parental relations with their children and the children have sibling relations .
Sociologist William F. Ogburn argues that the industrialization and urbanization of society has
stripped the family of many of the traditional functions. Due to this factor alone, the family s role
has been diminished to something strictly psychological, and that is to socialize children, and to
provide emotional support for family members. Talcott Parsons defined the family as serving a
basic function for society at large that included sexual behavior norms and values. There is a
growing opinion that social and civic agencies are taking over parental responsibilities due to two
income families, a burst in technology over the past forty years and single parent homes. The old

  • 2. Security Versus Privacy Essay Security Versus Privacy As a result of 9/11, our country has been faced with a new issue: electronic privacy. The terrorists that attacked us used our own technology against us to protect their activities from our view. Because of this, we are now forced to make a decision between two desirable things: privacy and national security. On the one hand, our right to privacy will ensure that our personal rights are not violated, whereas, on the other hand, national security would allow us some comfort against the evil in the world. What are we supposed to do? This issue, however it is decided, will have tremendous impact on each and every one of our lives. The ruling that the government makes concerning this issue will greatly alter the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would eliminate the sheltering of illegal activities and allow increased, tighter surveillance of cyberspace. Another similar solution would be to give the government a back door into all areas of cyberspace. Basically, that would allow them to see whatever they want, whenever they want. Encryption technology would not have to be eliminated, but it would be required to include a government ?back door?, so that any encryption code can be quickly broken if the need arises. A writer for the Christian Science Monitor put it this way: ?people are willing to trade almost anything for increased security, if they think it would make a difference? (Grier). Overall, however, this position is held by very few people. The last solution is the one that is generally supported by those who favor the right of personal privacy. They propose that everything should remain as it is. There will be some minor adjustments to the current encryption technologies, but it will be allowed to exist free of any back doors or restrictions. In a debate of the new Anti Terrorism Bill, Senator Patrick Leahy stated that ?as Ben Franklin once observed, ?if we surrender our liberty in the name of security, we shall have neither?? (Leahy). This is the position that is currently held by the Senate on the matter of internet security. The first side of this issue involves those people that are strongly concerned for our ... Luckily, three ladies who are the servants of the Queen of the Night saved him. Later on, the three ladies showed him a portrait of the queen s daughter, Pamina, and Tamino instantly falls in love with her. The Queen of the Night promises Tamino that he can have her daughter, if he can rescue Pamina who is imprisoned by the evil Sarastro. Tamino agrees, and was given a magic flute by the three ladies. Papageno, who is a bird catcher, also received a magic bell by the ladies. By the power of the magic fluteand the magic bells, Tamino rescues Pamina and falls in love immediately. Women with power are dangerous and unpredictable because they often like to compete with other countries for power and status quo. • 4. Analysis Of Caricature Of Humanity In The Runner Caricature of Humanity The Runner by DeLillo tells of a self absorbed runner who is witnessing a mysterious kidnapping without caring about it. The runner is a perfect portrayal of uncaring citizens, who lack empathy with others unless they are directly connected to them. While running, the narrator witnesses a car pulling onto the lawn, this is odd but he ignores it, it appears he does not care about other people, he prefers to continue running. The narrator notices that a car came off the road, bouncing onto the sloped lawn. (47) The runner is seeing a car come off the road onto the grass in the park where he is running. Since the narrator is not stopping to investigate he appears self absorbed and selfishly uncurious. The runner s neighbor explains she, heard the car when it came over the curb. More or less bang on the grass. The father gets out and takes the little boy. (49) His neighbor just witnessed a child being kidnapped, although she does not know anyone involved, she assumes the kidnapper is the boy s father. The runner seems disinterested in both the kidnapping and his neighbor s opinion. He seems to feel the kidnapping shouldn t concern him; he wasn t kidnapped, and he didn t know who was. Why should he care? What the runner doesn t realize is that this affects him emotionally and physically. This is a community concern. Whether or not the father was the kidnapper the entire area becomes concerned with safety. The runner, without thinking, crushes his neighbor s ideal situation even though he does not seem to care about the kidnapping. The narrator questions his neighbor and hears her response You can t be sure, can you? I saw them both and I saw the child. (50)When asked if she was sure the father was the kidnapper the neighbor states she saw the mother, the child, and the kidnapper. This implies that she does not know the real situation, but is merely projecting the most ideal situation. The viewpoint of the neighbor is interesting because our main character disagrees with the idea that the father was just taking his child. Although this is the ideal situation for both the child and the bystanders the runner takes a cynical view. This most likely means he would rather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cross-Cultural Communication Vs American Culture Cross Cultural Communication Mohamed Elamin Date: 02/23/2011 City University of Seattle Abstract This paper is about comparing and contrasting the American style of communication and that of Bahrain. Different countries have their own interpretation for every single issue based on their culture background and their way of thinking. The most significant characteristics of American culture are: individualism, equality, competition, freedom and privacy, action orientation, directness, particularity, and a problem solving orientation. They think the rule might have been appropriate in some other situation but it might not be appropriate for their situation now. Therefore they break it and do what they think is a better idea. Though Americans say, Rules are made to be broken, but they never say, Laws are made to be broken. Laws are official legal and they proudly claim that in America, No one is above the law . • 7. Dracula Compared To Modern Society Why are people so obsessed with vampires today that they go crazy over any book, movie, or tv show that has a vampire? In 1897, the year Dracula was published Britain was at the height of the empire expanding. Britain had conquered huge expanses of land from Africa, Asia, and North America and used the land for military and economic power. The rise of the United States and European powers threatened to unseat Britain and the world s most powerful nation, at the time this was occurring a rise in immigration brought unfamiliar races and cultures. Dracula, as an immigrant from the easternmost edge of Europe represented many of the popular prejudices against outsiders. A year after Dracula published, British author H.G. Wells exploited similar anxieties in his alien invasion novel The War of the World s. When comparing vampires adaptation to modern society vs. victorian society one can see the difference between sex, culture, and tradition through Bram Stoker s, Dracula. In the time period Dracula was written victorian women either had two choices, be a wife and mother or be a virgin and pure if she was neither of these she was considered a whore and had no consequence to society. In Dracula Lucy was seen as a whore, her physical beauty captivated each of her suitors and displayed a comfort playfulness about her desirability. Why can t they let a girl marry three men, or as many as want her, and save all this trouble? (Bram Stoker __). To Lucy it did not matter how she was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personal Goals Influencing Marriage in the Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy When one thinks of marriage, images of happiness, faithfulness, and unconditional love come to mind. Marriages are not for allowing two lovers to accomplish personal goals, but rather for faithful companions to live the rest of their lives together. In The Return of the Native, Thomas Hardy presents the reader with two pairs of lovers that marry to accomplish personal goals, not because of a mutual love and a desire to obtain a lifelong soul mate. Hardy reveals the true motives governing the participants in the novels marriage alliances: Eustacia, Clym, Thomasin, and Wildeve marry to carry out their individual plans for the future, rather than for love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A bewildered Clym answers It is very beautiful. But will you be mine? . Eustacia then asks even more questions about Paris, such as, Now tell me of the Tuileries, and the Louvre. (Page201). Frustrated with the lack of a solid answer from Eustacia, Clym cries I hate talking of Paris! , but this does not stop Eustacia s constant flow of questions about the city. This is definitely not the expected response to a proposal of marriage, and further evidences that Eustacia is more interested in a possible life in Paris than the love of Clym Yeobright. Clym Yeobright also is interested in marriage to help carryout his own personal goals in life. Before the two meet face to face, without the mummer costume, Clym is introduced to Eustacia by Sam the turf cutter. Sam reports to Clym that Eustacia is a handsome girl (Page 183) and that Clym ought to check her out. Clym s first response to this is, Do you think she would like to teach children? (Page 183). This brief passage shows that when presented with the opportunity to marry, Clym first thinks about the possibility that she would be willing to help him in his desire to run a school. As the relationship between the two progresses, Clym talks to his mother about his intent to marry Eustacia. Naturally, Mrs. Yeobright objects. The amount of money made from this harrowing business seems rather quixotic, but this issue goes on day in and day out. After selling drugs and gun running, trafficking is the third largest business world wide (Medina, 2007). The criminal running all these trades are very particular as far as money goes. The price depends on the person; once the girls are brought to me by an agent, I must pay from $350 to $400 for a virgin girl or $170 for a girl who is no longer a virgin (Flamm 2003). Criminals place their workers in different ensembles; a virgin is far more costly than a girl whom has been used. Once a women is purchased for sex, a trafficker can make five to twenty time her purchase price (Cheung, 2009). These criminals make a lot of money off of this organization of theirs, but they don t think about the fact that they are turning little girls into hookers. Forced labor could amount to US $44.3 billion per year, of which US $31.6 billion are made by exploiting trafficked victims. This confirms that modern slavery is a lucrative business, which funds the expansion of international criminal groups, contributes to corruption, and undermines the rule of law (Flamm, 2003). This all shows what the world is coming to; men will go out of their way to denounce women and children for money. • 11. Governmental Involvement In The War On Drugs As a person uses drugs, the brain adjusts to excesses of dopamine, subsequently reducing the amounts, in turn lowering the ability of cells in the reward circuits in response. Consequently this reduces the high quality in comparison to the initial usage. The effect, known as tolerance, causes users to increase their dosage to achieve a similar high leading to addiction. Long term use causes a change in chemical systems, and massive health issues such as birth defects, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and other infectious diseases, cardiovascular effects, respiratory effects, gastrointestinal effects, musculoskeletal effects, other organ damage, neurological effects, mental health effects, possible amputations due to infected cites, and death (WebMD). So why would anyone do drugs? Other than coping mechanisms, curiosity, and peer pressure, governmental involvement may indirectly help stabilize drugtrade, leading to more drug popularity. While genetic and environmental factors such as economic status, etc., interact with critical development stages concerning addiction, the factors above are a general overview found in textbook. More concerning however, is governmental involvement. The growth of drug trade in Colombiacreated two cartels, one that was led by Medellin and one led in Cali. This power created conflict throughout the country creating violence which resulted in hundreds of deaths. It had resulted in complete chaos since the country was overpowered by illegal drugs. Despite Colombia s strong republic government today, the drug trade problems have been escalating for the past 20 years resulting in the U.S involvement. Many think that having both parents at home is very important and the ideal family. In the world today more than a third of the population is being raised with only a mother. These calculations have doubled over time and keeps growing as the days go on (Anderson, 2013). Some say that being raised by only one parent is impossible, but by statistics it is proven wrong. It is more common for children to be raised with only one parent than it is for them to have both parents under one roof. Many parents get divorced, or one gets deathly sick or passes away. Others just leave there children because they don t want them or simply can t provide for the child. Children grow emotionally stable and well off whether they have one or two parents at home to show them how life goes and the right paths to take. There are many problems and challenges when a child is raised by only one parent versus having both a mother and a father. Does a child need both parents to live in the society we have today? Does a single parent get any help when raising a child alone? When researching and gathering evidence this topic has become an intriguing argument all around the world today. The members of my group include myself, Michael Williams, Divya Reitz, Zack Benner, and Travis Geidroc. Reviewing and looking at how well each student worked individually will help show where things went wrong or went well throughout the planning of the leadership project. • 18. Popular Culture And Social Media Essay Popular culture was, and perhaps still is, seen as a touchy and risky topic that should not be experimented in by many educational institutions. Callahan and Low (2004) point out that popular culture is looked upon unfavorably due to its fluid nature and habit of putting teachers in zones outside their expertise and familiarity (p.52). Additionally, as described by GutiГ©rrez (2011) popular cultureand the fandoms that inevitably followed were believed to create a single path by which the individual merely payed tribute to a source material without having ever gained or learned anything in return (p.227). Furthermore, Hull and Stornaiuolo (2010) assert that formal, or standardized, schooling is skeptical of the potential educational value while magnifying the potential risks of popular cultureand social media (p 85), perhaps prompting instructors to stick to traditional techniques in lieu of potential dangers, to both students and their own job security. Why then, despite the potentially debilitating aspects of popular culture in the classroom, do some teachers still choose to incorporate them? Admittedly, I observed very few instances of pop culture implementation during my first field experience, however those that did incorporate popular culture did so naturally, enthusiastically, and so masterfully that it was without a doubt beneficial when compared to classes that were kept material dry and by the books. Those of a wealthier status are more capable of attainting culture, and therefore able to cultivate their nature. This may be one of the reasons why women, who were seen as imperfect men, did not have the freedom to explore their interiority (Marquis 1257). Women were not made in the image of God, but rather: she is the image of man in a restrictive and analogical sense, because woman was made from man, after man, inferior to him and his likeness (Farber). The common perception of envy is that it is an emotion that, much like jealousy, that comes from a desire to possess something that someone else has. However, envy goes a step further and causes an individual to not only desire what someone else has, but to also wish that the other person did not have it at all. Spenser uses the conventional view of envy stated above in conjunction with some unconventional imagery in order to elaborate on the nature and implications of being an envious person. In doing this Spenser is able to teach to reader an aspect of envy that they may not already know or understand. In his portrayal of envy in book one of The Faerie Queene, Spenser is trying to convey to his readers that people who are envious are trapped in and endless cycle of envy that leads to nothing but unhappiness and misery. Spenser s interpretation of envy, like the other deadly sins in the house of pride, can be broken down into 4 images: the animal that he rides, his appearance, how he behaves, and the ailment he has. This paper will use the first three of these images to show how Spenser s depiction of Envy is meant to teach the reader that the sin of envy can only lead to perpetual unhappiness and misery. • 37. New Orleans Breeds Reaction Paper The New Orleans Saints had a lousy 2014 to say the least. Sean Payton s team finished the season ranked the second worst defense in the league, allowing an average of 384 yards per game. On the other hand, the Saints were also ranked the best offense in the league, putting up 411.4 yards per game last season. Nonetheless, Drew Brees and company ended up having to watch the playoffs on TV, as they finished with a 7 9 record. So, why can New Orleans bounce back from 2014? Here are your answers: Number 1: Drew Brees There is no question that Brees is an elite quarterback. In a season to forget for the Saints, Brees still managed to lead the NFL in passing with a total of 4,952 aerial yards. And that is still not the impressive thing about his 2014 season. He was hurt while putting up those numbers.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... THEN I HAD SOMETHING DURING THE SEASON, TOO, THAT I WAS BATTLING, BREES SAID AFTER HIS PRESEASON GAME AGAINST THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS. Now Brees is 100 percent healthy and ready to go, as he proved against the Patriots, where the Saints quarterback went 8 10 for 159 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Number two: Bandin Cooks In his second year in the NFL, Cooks has the chance to raise his stock even higher within the league. The 21 year old had a solid rookie season, tallying 53 receptions for 550 yards and three scores. But now he is ready to help his team in any way possible. WHEN IT COMES TO THIS OFFENSE AND AS A RECEIVER, I M NOT ALWAYS THINKING OF GETTING THE BALL FIRST. WHATEVER I VE GOTTA DO TO HELP US WIN, WHETHER IT INVOLVES ME OR NOT, I JUST WANNA WIN. AND THAT IS MY MINDSET. COOKS SAID AT TRAINING CAMP. The Saints receiver was also praised by one of the game s ultimate masterminds recently. • 39. Fetal Abnormality Case Study Essay Fetal Abnormality Case Study The advancement of medical technology has made it possible to detect medical abnormalities while a child is still a fetus and can create difficult choices for parents to make if severe anomalies are discovered. There are many theories regarding the moral status of the fetus that can be applied when deciding how to proceed if these abnormalities are detected. In the fetal abnormality case study, Jessica, Marco, Maria, and Dr. Wilson each have varying opinions on what course of action to take based on these different theories of moral status. Jessica is torn between her desire to be financially independent and her belief that all life has value. Her belief is what Sebo (n.d.) describes as moral status based on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maria is absolutely opposed to any mention of termination. She views the moral status of the fetus based on Jessica s responsibility as a mother, or the theory of moral agency based on relationships (GCU, 2015). This theory states that a person must not interfere with another person or must respect their rights because they have a relationship with them (GCU, 2015; Jaworska Tannenbaum, 2013). For example, the relationship between a parent and their child, or in this case their fetus, provides a particularly strong case for a parent not to kill their child or abort their fetus (Jaworska Tannenbaum, 2013). Aside from the relationship of Jessica and her fetus which may prevent her from terminating, this theory is also applicable in this case to Marco and Jessica, as he is going to support any decision that she makes based on their relationship. It can also be applied to the physician patient relationship, so Dr. Wilson must respect Jessica s and Marco s rights as parents and their choice because of their relationship. Because moral status has to do with which beings have value or rights, I tend to agree with the theory of sentience. I believe that animals do have rights, especially in terms of biomedical ethics and research. I may, however, seem hypocritical in this belief because I am not a vegetarian. • 42. Essay On Muscle Injury You often hear about athletes who are unable to play their sport due to a pulled hamstring. In fact, a pulled hamstring is one of the most common muscle pulls or muscle injury. Your hamstrings are a group of three muscles that help extend your legs at the hip and flex them at the knee. A pulled hamstring is a strain or tear in the muscles or tendons. To understand what causes a hamstring injury you have to know how muscles work. All muscles work in pairs to perform a task. One set of muscles contracts to exert force while the other set of muscles relaxes. The hamstring muscles located at the back of the thigh, work with the quadriceps muscle group in the front of the thigh. When you want to bend your leg, the hamstring muscles contract and the quadriceps muscles relax. Conversely, when you want to straighten your leg, the quadriceps muscles contract and the hamstring muscles relax. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mild strains may involve simple, uncomfortable tightening of the muscle. More severe injuries may result in a sharp pain in the back of the thigh, usually in full stride. A rupture or tear may leave you unable to stand or walk, muscles may be tender to the touch and painful to stretch your leg. Within a few days after a tear the area may appear very bruised. Though Missouri was still a part of the Union, it was a slave state. This leading to a bloody battleground between the Union and Confederate. Fremont s order surpassed the requirements of the First Confiscation Act. This Act only freed slaves who had participated in the Rebel War or who had master that were disloyal to the Union. Lincoln was furious with Fremont for not following the Confiscation Act. This caused Lincoln to cancel the order and the general to resign. A growing uneasy Congress, where Republicans dominated, pushed Lincoln on emancipation; later on Congress passed the Second Confiscation Act.
