Discrete Wavelet Transform for Compressing and Decompressing the Speech Signal Bhavana Pujari1,
Prof. S.S.Gundal2 Abstract: The original digital speech signal contains tremendous measure of
memory, the main concept for the speech compression algorithm is presented here, in which bit rate of
the speech signal is reduced with maintaining signal quality for storage, memory saving or
transmission over the long distance. The concentration of this project is to compact the digital speech
signal using Discrete Wavelet Transform and reconstruct same signal using inverse transform, in
.NET. The algorithm of Compression is oriented in three basic operation, they are apply the DWT,
Threshold, Encode the signal for transmission Analysis of compression procedure is done by
comparing the original speech and reconstructed signal. The main advantages of DWT provides
variable compression factor. Keywords: Bit rate, Compression, Decompression, Discrete Wavelet
Transform (DWT), .NET, Threshold. Introduction The Speech is finest effective medium for
viewpoint to face communication and telephony application. Speech coding is the process of obtaining
a compact representation of audio signals for efficient transmission over band limited wired and
wireless channels and/or storage. The procedure of Compression is done by transferring an original
signal to alternate compressed signal that consist of small amount of memory. Compression is
conceivable simply because information in input data

The Solar Powered Glass Invention
One valuable accessory made for uses of sustainability is the solar powered glass invention. Its soul
purpose is to sustain energy all around the world. This way, our natural resources can be preserved for
other uses, keeping our environment intact. Also this can help maintain your money by saving energy.
Furthermore, allowing the solar powered glass to maintain the spotlight. The solar powered glass
functions by allowing photons, particles of light, to knock electrons free from atoms, generating a
flow of electricity. Solar panels actually compromise smaller units called photovoltaic cells. Doing
this helps sustain our environment in many ways. Using this, the use of electricity can be shortened,
reducing our use of resources. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can truly change the world as we know of it today if citizens just took time to install this and expand
on its uses. Not only is the solar powered glass an advantage in modernization toward sustainability,
but also a contribution to science and engineering. When the designers created this innovation, they
had to use STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math] in order to perfect their original plan
and distribute it. They had to find the dimensions, calculate its affect on in and on buildings (biomass)
( Glass ). Also come up with ways to keep any negative results from occurring by adding special
features. A pathetic, weak minded person wouldn t be able to direct anyone, nor come up with these
astonishing plans. This simply proves that astute individuals tend to have more success, which means
the leader of this entire program, must be adroit. For a reference, if you think about classic glass
windows, then in deserts we would need to install power installations of electricity. It all just goes to
show how much technology is constantly improving day by day. We also have glass known as Low e
glass. You may ask yourself what is Low e glass. Low e glass is one of the most popular and versatile
glass placed on buildings used today. The technical reason is because of its constantly improving solar
and thermal performance on glass. And one way this performance is achieved is through the use of

Why Golf Is Important Essay
First I would like to say, that to many people, even the word golf sounds boring. I do admit, that I have
thought that at times. Still, try to trust me. Golf can actually be a fun and rewarding sport. Here is why
you should give golf an honest effort to see if you like it for yourself.
Everybody get angry in life. However, did you know that playing golf can help. Here is why. Did you
know that 1 in 5 kids in the U.S. have anger issues every year? Well, golf could help you with that
because having a bad day on the course can be really stressful. Furthermore, if you play golf enough,
you learn to control your emotions (at one point). And when you learn to control your emotions, it can
lead to better behavior. Also, being able to control your emotions is just a good thing. You have to
control your emotions every day. But if you don t ever learn to do so, ... Show more content on

Yet, most of us just ignore it. But by playing golf, that could be fixed. Have you always wanted good
grades? Yet you don t have the patience to study, and never get a good grade? Well, if you have the
patience to, you might find that good grade you have been looking for. If you still don t understand
how playing golf could help you get a better grade, here is how. By playing golf you slowly can start
to have better patience, therefore allowing you to also have the tolerance to study. By studying more
you are likely to get a better grade. Patience is also a very important skill to have in life, so why not
have it? Like I said in the beginning, patience isn t something that comes naturally to all of us.
However, when you do have patience you start using it every day, you just don t realize it. Even
though you don t know you use patience every day you actually do. Times like waiting in the lunch
line, reading a book when the teacher is doing something or maybe waiting on the bus, and so much
more. Yet this is just another reason for you to play golf

Catoctin Mountain Review Essay
Introduction:
The National Park Service (NPS) and the U. S. Department of the Interior (USDI) drafted the Catoctin
Mountain National Park Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) (2006) to
impart knowledge of a need for action to facilitate the regeneration of vegetation and reforestation of
the park. A population of white tailed deer that was exceeding an estimated 100 individual animals per
square mile was over browsing the vegetation. According to the EIS a population of 15 to 20
individuals is optimal to protect herd health and allow regeneration of the vegetation. The EIS listed
four alternatives that were investigated in depth according to the National Environmental Protection
Act requirements (FHWA, n.d.) these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This alternative would reach the goals through the length of the plan. The reduction in deer population
would not be rapid and regeneration would be seen mostly in the exclusions until the population had
diminished and the plan cost is over $9.5 million. The preferred alternative, alternative C was
comprised of the continuation of alternative A with the use of sharpshooting and the subduing and
euthanization of deer to rapidly reduce the population to the goal range in three years. Through this
alternative the goals would be meet in a relatively short time frame at a cost between $738,600 and
$941,100. The final alternative, alternative D also continued alternative A with the combination of
sharpshooting, euthanization, and reproduction control. Alternative D would meet the goals of the plan
in a similar time frame as alternative C with a cost of between $1.4 and $1.6 million.
Rejected alternatives:
Several alternatives were rejected for various reasons. The first rejected alternative was a managed
hunt, for the need of legislation change in congress to allow a hunt on NPS land and possible cost and
safety issues. A second was sterilization of bucks, which would only show moderate control of the
population if the dominant buck were sterilized. Predator reintroduction was next rejected, because
studies have shown that predators have not shown consistent

The Research On Marine Mammal Captivity
Introduction: In recent years, animals in captive environments such as zoos and theme parks have
grown more controversial. The literature I have reviewed focuses on a particular group of animals in
captivity, cetaceans. Cetaceans include whales, dolphins, and porpoises. The literature includes a
range of themes, from their unique level of intelligence to why they may mentally and physically
suffer in captive environments. However, it all connects to how and why these animals live and
behave differently in captive environments than their wild counterparts. I had a unique method to how
I researched the literature. Since marine mammal captivity is a personal interest of mine, I have
attended educational conferences on the subject where I have made friends with many scientists such
as Dr. Jeff Ventre and Dr. Lori Marino. Since I know them personally, I used their published research
as a starting point because I was already familiar with it and knew exactly where to find it. From there,
I mainly used the related articles feature within the database to read through titles and abstracts to find
my other six sources.
Intelligence:
Cetacean intelligence has been studied for many years both in captivity and in the wild. A milestone
discovery in cetacean intelligence is self awareness. An experiment was conducted with two male
captive bottlenose dolphins in New York Aquarium. The dolphins were marked on a part of their body
that was not visible without a mirror. After being

Characters. They are the foundation of a storyline. However, what is the significance of having
realistic characters? Authors construct a story with realistic characters to enable readers in
familiarizing themselves with the character. In Sandra Cisneros Eleven and Ray Bradbury s The Veldt,
both authors reveal realistic characters by using descriptive writing with the use of literary devices,
utilizing dialogue that reflects their young ages and developing the characters by encountering various
types of narrations. The authors use realistic characters to provide a better reflection about the coming
of age as a theme. Writers utilize descriptive writing to create a clear depiction of people, objects or
events by emphasizing important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He [George] could feel it on his neck, still, like a hot paw...And the smell of blood. (Bradbury 3). The
author uses a simile to compare the heat of the sun to a hot paw in the African veldt which emphasizes
the positive thoughts of the children. The smell of blood refers to death, which transitions into an
unexpected thought from children. Bradbury uses a technique called foreshadowing by contrasting the
positive thoughts and negative thoughts of the children. This explains the variation in the age of Peter
as his thoughts begin to expand. Therefore, descriptive writing with the use of literacy devices reflect
the overall theme; coming of age to create realistic characters. Authors use dialogues as a technique to
display an important conversation between two characters or more. Realistic characters would
comprise dialogues consisting apparent speech manners of a human being. Through dialogues,
characters can interact in a way that could reveal expositional information (age) about a character
which seems to be realistic. For example, Cisneros exaggerates the nervousness in Rachel, when she
says, That s not, I don t, you re not...Not mine (Cisneros 2) after a classmate declares that the red
sweater belongs to Rachel. The writer uses an ellipsis; a pause after every few words to emphasize the
idea of Rachel not being able to speak up for herself, which allows the reader to fill in their own
insights about the character. Rachel endeavors to say that s not

Atlantic Transformations
The Earth has undergone a series of physical transformations throughout its history, and every
transformation changes the way things such as water currents, heat circulation, and climate manifest.
Twenty million years ago, the Atlantic and Pacific oceans flowed freely between North and South
America because there was no land barrier between them, which meant that the salinity of the oceans
were similar. This meant that warm water vapor wasn t being carried up to the North Atlantic, like
happens today. When the pacific plate was pushed under the Caribbean plate volcanoes, islands, and
eventually the body of land that connects North and South America formed. This caused the currents
of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans to go towards the north,

Charles Perrault And The Brothers Grimm And Grimm Brothers
Although there are many versions of virtually every fairy tale known to man, not all of the different
adaptations are contrasting. The bases of stories tend to remain the same, due to the fact that the main
plots are unvarying. Throughout history, these famous fairytales have been passed on by word of
mouth. The two most well known authors who wrote their interpretations of fairy tales are French
author Charles Perrault (1628 1703), and The Brothers Grimm / Jacob (1785 1863) and Wilhelm
Grimm (1786 1859). Although Perrault wrote down his thoughts much earlier than the Grimm
Brothers, the brothers appear to have gained more credit and fame from their works. One of the
darkest and most intriguing work of theirs is the story of Bluebeard. The ... Show more content on

Unlike in the version written by Perault, the Grimm Brothers take a creative path in which it is not
Bluebeard s appearance that makes others feel on edge when he is around, it is evident that that the
reason people find his presence discomforting is far deeper than his exterior. The list of variances
could go on and on, however, the main difference is the color of the man s beard. In the fairy tale
written by Perrault, Bluebeard indeed has a blue beard. However, this is not the case in the tale written
by the Grimm Brothers, where in reality Bluebeard s beard is veritably black. Not only are there
evident differences in the information presented in the writing, but in fact, the style of writing is much
different as well. With these main variances in the ideas of the story, one may think that the tale of
Bluebeard may differ between the two different versions, however that is not necessarily the case.
When reading the adaptation by Perrault, the reader may find the story slightly complex and
confusing. They ceased not to extol and envy the happiness of their friend (Perrault 2). It can be noted
that Perrault uses words that may seem to be very formal and professional sounding, however, the
reader can easily find themselves getting lost in the ocean of complex words and phrases. The writing
of the Brothers Grimm, however, is much more understandable and to the point. They shortened the
scene where Bluebeard s wife invites her friends over, which is the

Star Wars and Star Trek definitely share some similarities being both science fiction movies. While the
similarities are there, especially when many people confuse characters and plot. Differences account

Photon torpedoes will never be as exciting to watch as even the most serious lightsaber duel is more
entertaining. All of Star Treks weapons seem pretty dull and boring (like there spaceships). But you
now what s not boring? The (2nd)most destructive weapon ever created. The planet killer. The Death
Star. If you re wondering why I mentioned it as the second it s because it is only behind StarKiller
base. The name fits it s use, Starkiller base is capable of using the power of a star to destroy multiple
planets across a distance of what appears to be light years. This is far and beyond the power of
anything in the Federation fleet. That is scary. There s no weapon like that in the universe of Star Trek.
The lightsaber is an iconic weapon. None are like it. Now the only thing cooler than a lightsaber is the
one who wields it. Ask anyone you see on the street what a Jedi is and I can almost guarantee you that
they will know or will know that it has to do with Star Wars. Star Wars has had such an impact on the

Impact Of Charles Lindbergh In The 1920s
The 1920s was a decade of drastic change in the United States, with many new conflicts, leisure
activities, and heroes to worship (Nash 374). Charles Lindbergh was one of these heroes. Born in
1902, he was trained in aviation and worked as an airmail pilot (Bishop). Later, he made history by
becoming the first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean alone (Nash 388). On May twenty first,
1927, Lindbergh traveled from New York to Le Bourget field in Paris in his plane, the Spirit of St.
Louis (James). He designed this plane himself, working to make it as small and lightweight as
possible (Kessner Charles Lindbergh, A New Hero ). Known as the lone eagle , Lindbergh became one
of the biggest celebrities of the era (Chamberlain). His flight caused more excitement than any other
event of its time (Nash 388). Approximately 25,000 people were at Le Bourget field to watch
Lindbergh land (James). Upon returning to the United States, there were numerous parades and
dinners to honor his achievement ( Lindbergh Visit Ends ). Charles Lindbergh was the most influential
hero to emerge from the 1920s, making an impact by transforming aviation, as well as acting as a role
model for the American public and encouraging a return to the old way of American life. Through his
achievement in flying over the Atlantic Ocean, Charles Lindbergh contributed greatly towards the

Analysis Of The Poem Cousin Kate And A Woman s Lover
The pre 20th century poems Cousin Kate and A woman to her lover written by Christina Rossetti and
Christina Walsh, both explore the presentation of women. Similarly, both poems are unique due to it
being written in the 1800 s, as women were controlled and dominated by men in that society.
The narrative poem Cousin Kate by Rossetti, explores the themes regret and jealousy. The poem itself
is a dramatic monologue written in first person by Rossetti, presenting the history of a cottage maiden
with a Lord. It was written during the 1800 s where social status was considered important, women
were inferior to men and sexual intercourse out of wedlock was frowned upon greatly. In the first
stanza we learn that the persona got betrayed and was simply a cottage maiden. She reveals that she
was hardened by the sun and air , portraying how strong she is and how hard she worked.
Conversely, through the use of the phrase sun and air Rossetti foreshadows the ending son and heir .
This play on words shows how the cottage maiden revealed that even after having her son out wedlock
with the Lord, he would still be inheriting his wealth and land. Moreover, through the quote contented
with my cottage maidens , she shows how happy and satisfied she was with how her life before the
Lord entered it. Portraying how much the affair with the Lord affected her and how much she lost in
result of it. Additionally, the cottage maiden was modest and humble but she was fair demonstrated by

Self-Torture In Edgar Allen Poe s Thee Raven
What is the purpose for scary movies, legends and haunted houses? The answer is to provide a dose of
terror to the audience. So knowing the consequences of horror why are there people that yearn for this
type of entertainment, is it the adrenaline rush or the mere concept of humans thirst for self torture.
There once lived a famous American poet, Edgar Allen Poe who was infatuated with deranged
characters and mystery. Having this reputation Poe wrote a poem, The Raven . Poe used this piece of
literature to help evince the idea of humans thirst for self torture. In order to properly exhibit this

In a biography about Poe the following is stated, Poe s distinctive themes included madness, untimely
death, and obsession. Given his troubled life, many critics have interpreted his deranged narrators,

articles I have found use specific terms associated with the field of Graphic Design. For example, the
article Primary Design Elements Found in Outstanding Digital Illustrations, by a designer called
LoungeKat, outlines and explains various elements of design such as negative space, implied texture,
and monochromatic uses of color. Articles such as this one are mainly written to help designers
improve their technique and develop a better understanding of how to create meaningful designs.
Within this specific genre of technical writing, designers require an understanding of ethos because
their audience need to feel that they are a credible source in the graphic design field. Specifically,
within LoungeKat s article, technical terminology is utilized to develop that ethos as well as specific
examples. However, a majority of the article utilizes simple language rather than advanced language.
Many articles about graphic design maintain that sense of simplicity in their writing as well. I assume
this is because the field is not heavy on writing or research and instead it focuses on art and visual
designs so there is no need to use such a formal or advanced way of writing. In addition, credible
sources such as peer journals are very important in many fields of work because they can be trusted to
provide reliable information. During the interview I also asked

The Eucharist
The Eucharist (Otherwise known as the Holy Communion or the Blessed Sacrament) is a Catholic
sacrament considered to be the apex of Christianity. While some Catholics and different branches of
the English Church believe that this bread and wine are transformed into the literal blood and body of
Christ, others believe that it is a simple expression of faith. It is considered to be the very essence of
love that binds us to the savior; and it is this teaching of love that inspires the Catholic view on social
justice. Social justice spreads love to all humankind, via fighting for equality and respect for all man.
The Eucharist is the symbolism of this love, and it is the concept that inspires the catholic doctrine of
the social mission. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Engerberton, 2003, p. 156)
In order to understand the power of the Eucharist in Social Justice, basic points of the Catholic
doctrine on this subject must also be understood.
If Christian precepts prevail, the respective classes will not only be united in bonds of friendship, but
also those of brotherly love. (Leo XIII, Rerum Morarun, 25)
According to Leo XIII and his letter Rerum Morarun , social justice should be working towards
uniting the classes, in not only friendship and equality, but also in brotherly love. This love and
equality is mentioned again in Catholic social justice doctrine, by Pope Benedict in his encyclical
letter Caritas in Virtitate . He states that charity is at the heart of the Church s social doctrine (Benedict
XVI, Caritas in Veritate, 2). In speaking of charity, denoted by love for fellow man, the Pope is
creating (or restating) the hypostasis of social justice. Pope John XIII authored an encyclical letter,
Pacen in Terris, speaking of this love for fellow man, as stated in the following quote
Human society, as we picture it, demands that men are guided by justice [...] It demands, too, that they
be animated by such love [...] (John XIII, Pacen in Terris, 35) He talks of being guided by Christ s
justice, but also of being animated by love . This is referring to the love received when partaking in
the Eucharist. As the love of the

Essay On The Movie The Lorax
The movie the Lorax is an excellent way to teach children about how to love the Earth, and how each
person can leave some kind of impact on the world. This blockbuster is an adaptation of Dr. Seaus s
book the Lorax.
The Lorax is a wonderful, live changing film of a young boy, Ted, who lived in the town of
Thneedville. Thneedville is a town that is filled with everything artificial, even the trees! One day, Ted
falls in love with a girl who dreams of finding a real tree. In hopes to win her affection, Ted sets off to
meet the Once ler to find out where all the trees went. After the Once ler tells him about what
materials her need, Ted, sets up to find the materials. Ted stubbles upon a forest and chops down the
first tree he finds, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third lesson is to not expect that everyone who has power or runs a company is making eco
conscious decisions. Sometimes they companies fail to meet up to specific eco conscious standards
and are able to pay their way through fines. The movie shows this through O Hair and how he tried to
stop Ted from trying to grow trees. O Hair only thought of his business, and not about the effects of
his business on the environment.
The fourth and personally the most important lesson and to leave only footprints. During the movie,
the Once ler cuts down of the trees and make Thneed. Instead of making this the Once ler could have
painted a picture or took a picture of the trees to remember them by. This is a great lesson for all, and
something I teach my students. It is better to take a picture of something or to draw it than to take
nature from nature. You are doing more harm by messing things up, than if you were to take a picture.
9 times out of 10, the picture is going to last a lot longer than whatever you are taking.
The fifth and final lesson is there is hope for the future, and we can change it. Grow a forest, protect it
from axes that hack. Then the Lorax and all of his friends may come back. Said the Once ler. It is
never too late to plant a tree, grow a garden, change your routine a little bit. The Earth will thank you
by growing magnificent plants. You can always change your ways and build better.
Overall this movie is such an excellent movie to teach others

John Was Preaching Against Rome
John was preaching against Rome in Revelation
In the late first century a follower of Jesus of Nazareth, John of Patmos, received a vision of the end
the world. John later wrote this vision down and his writing has come down to modernity as The Book
of Revelation also known as The Apocalypse of John. When John wrote Revelation was he using it as
a coded message to preach against Rome? In this vision, John saw many images that could be read as
Rome or Roman if viewed from a historical context. Subsequent generations have interpreted the
imagery within their own historical context. With this paper I will argue that Revelation pertains to the
Roman world and culture that John and his followers were living in, the events in Judea that are
thought to have occurred within his life time and that John used some of the same imagery to connect
his writing to the Hebrew Bible. There are two main competing dates for the writing of Revelation, an
early date of 69 70 and a later date of 90 92. This paper will be using the 69 70 date and will be
providing evidence to prove why this date works better for the context of this paper. First this paper
will establish the time frame in which John wrote Revelation. George H. van Kooten s article, The
Year of the Four Emperors and the Revelation of John: The pro Neronian Emperors Otho and

Plato s Republic, And His Sun Analogy
In this essay I will attempt to illustrate the role of the Form of the Good in regards to other Forms and
knowledge as the highest form, and a unifying force. Particular emphasis will be placed on Socrates
discussion of it in The Republic, and his sun analogy. I will argue that its epistemological role is
perhaps most convincing, as the other two fall to a number of criticisms. Other criticisms will be
offered, including how vague the theory is, and those offered by Aristotle in particular. The Form of
the Good is notoriously ambiguous, in that it is difficult to pin down precisely what it is. In Plato s
Republic, through the character of Socrates, we see an attempt to describe what the Form of the Good
is, or, at the very least, some general idea of its nature. After stating that philosophers make the best
rulers to his interlocutor, Glaucon, he establishes the way to distinguish philosophers from non
philosophers. Philosophers can pick out non sensible properties of a Form (eg beauty), as opposed to
the non sensible particulars of a thing (such as a beautiful vase). However, Socrates makes it clear that
the most important thing for a philosopher king is the knowledge of the Form of the Good. While
there are many other Forms, the Good is ultimately superlative in that it is the highest or most
superior. Socrates states that it has three key roles. An:
Ontological role: all other things become useful and advantageous only by their use of the Form of the
Good

to know suppliers which have good service reputations. Further, the company must also determine
what the suppliers can offer, such as its expertise to meet Apple s high standard and its ability to fulfill
both the present and future needs. Apart from these, the suppliers should consistently deliver quality

necessary for the company to develop strategies to meet the changing conditions of business. Rafdahl

The Party Goers In The Great Gatsby
The boundless parties of the roaring 1920s reflected the wildness and new wealth being procured in
the vibrant era. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, there is a scene depicting a party
at Mr. Jay Gatsby s, an extraordinarily wealthy and mysterious man, in which the attendees seem to
have joyous and exciting lives. However, under the surface their lives hold little meaning and can be
seen as depressing. Fitzgerald uses depictions of the attendees, descriptions of the food and drink, and
setting in order to reveal the dark undertone of the lives of the upper class. One way in which
Fitzgerald brings out the shallowness of the people is by describing the way they carry themselves.
The party goers are said to have enthusiastic meetings in which they never knew each other s names,

self destructive manner. To gain entrance to these parties, the guests must go through blue gardens,

moths and most insects gravitate towards fire and light in the night, the guests gravitate towards

South Park as Parody of Society Essay
South Park as Parody of Society
South Park began airing in 1997. The commercials that preceded it gave the impression of it being
another stupid cartoon; however, when I began watching, I realized important issues were being
covered through the repeated behaviors and actions of its characters, through the influences these
actions could have on the viewers, through the reinforcement and rejections of certain stereotypes,
through the long term effects that could result from watching the program, and through its reflection
of social reality.
Some of the repeated behaviors and actions of the characters include one of the children (Kenny)
dying during each episode (followed by Stan yelling, Oh, my God! They ve killed Kenny (South ...

There are both negative and positive influences these repeated behaviors and actions could have on an
audience. One negative effect could be the numbing of the viewer to children s deaths: it is such a
common occurrence on the show until it is expected. Another effect could be the instilling of negative
feelings toward the overweight; the audience could be learning that it is acceptable to verbally attack a
person with a weight problem. Also, in a time of AIDS, promotion of sexual promiscuity is a
dangerous thing: never have the writers mentioned the use of condoms by Chef during his encounters.
Finally, because of the recent advances in genetic research and its awakening of new fears in the
public, South Park s parody of the geneticist could further play on people s fears.
Despite the potentially negative influences of these behaviors and actions, there could be a positive
influence existing in the form of catharsis. American society has suffered from the rules of political
correctness, the fear of AIDS, and the fear of knowledge (the fear of going too far into God s domain
thanks to our Puritanical background). Maybe South Park gives us release from repression by allowing
us to laugh at the things we fear the most: death, ridicule of our differences by our peers, the
contracting of deadly diseases, and advancements in science. (I am sure that most of us need release
from the built up tensions of daily life; South

Essay on Semiotics of Personal Objects
Ever since I was a little girl, clothes and shoes have been important to me. I loved picking out my own

After researching semiotics, which in short, is the method of interpreting signs and finding a deeper
meaning in everyday activities, I realize, that my reasoning for choosing the clothes and shoes that I

The private details, misgivings, failings, and joys that she shares openly show the readers symbols of
hope and love. In particular, Nectar in a Sieve becomes growingly apparent that grain and seed are
worthless without water. The cause of water on the harvests and crops is evident enough, but water
seems to appear as a major symbol in periods of shortage and prosperity. Water is significant in
Nathan s death as well: it sprinkles on the day he s ill, and by the time he passes away, there s a
rainstorm. Even the dependable light that usually burns atop the temple has been wet by the water,
causing Rukmani to angrily repeat, Fire cannot burn in water! (Markandaya 250) Similarly, water also

first born child, Irrawaddy, was named after one of the great rivers of Asia, as of all things water was
most precious to us. (Markandaya 27) Like the women of Nectar in a Sieve, water gives life and takes

Passing is often deemed to be striker s worst attributes. Perhaps, it is the tight spaces that they operate

However, Werner could be really awful with his passing and has a tendency to infuriate his teammates

Another aspect of his game that needs improvement upon is his tendency to be wayward with his runs

Theme Of Self Image In 12 Angry Men
Self image is a largely talked about issue. From negative to positive outlooks, it can be seen in most
magazines, heard on most talk shows, and is mentioned in almost every article on the internet. The
1957 MGM film Twelve Angry Men compels the characters in the film and the audiences to view their
own self image when making a decision on the guilt of an eighteen year old boy who is accused of
killing his father. By using logic, reflection, and attitude, the movie shows each of the characters to
review their views and beliefs and how they see themselves and others. During the film, logic was
required on everyone s part. They were deciding on an eighteen year old kid s life! It was not a
decision to be made quickly. Mr. Davis realizes this and is the only one to vote not guilty when taking
the first vote (Lumet). Logic came into play because Mr. Davis thought logically about all of the
evidence presented and because of this he felt that there was a reasonable doubt and could therefore,
not sentence the young man. Throughout the rest of the film, we see more of the men thinking
logically, for example, when Juror Nine realizes that the woman who claims she witnessed the murder,
wore glasses and would not have been able to clearly see the boy if she claimed to be laying in bed
trying to fall asleep. Another example is when juror number five, who grew up in the same area of

Single Mothers Are Not The Problem By Ryan M.
Society, as a whole, tends to look at the world with a set of judgmental eyes. Sometimes, this
judgement is blatantly obvious. Other times, it is not. However, it is always there, hidden in the way
we live our lives. This is because over time society has managed to ingrain into us an almost utopian
set of ideals, meant to force us into a state of normality ideals that we, as humans, are expected to
follow. If we conform to these standards then we pass the test and are considered normal. On the other
hand, if we deviate from those standards, we fail and are considered deviant. Concepts such as gender
socialization, cultural norms, stereotypes, and social status are all used by society to assess our level of
deviance. If found to be deviant, society seeks to isolate the abnormality from the normal population
in an effort to prevent further corruption. Thus, the notion of stigma is born. ... Show more content on

to be forced to live in a workhouse? These are some of the questions you might ask yourself if you
were living in early nineteenth century
England. Dickens addresses these issues in his timeless masterpiece Oliver Twist. In the story of
Oliver Twist, Dickens uses past experiences from his childhood and targets the Poor Law of 1834
which renewed the importance of the workhouse as a means of relief for the poor.

The 1840s were years of crises. The character on English life was being transformed by industrial
expansion and by great movements of population towards urban life.
Charles Dickens was born in Landport, Portsea, on February 7, 1812. He was the second son of John
Dickens. John Dickens was a clerk in the Navy pay office. His improvidence would eventually lead to
imprisonment in the Marshalsea, a debtor s prison for debt (Hardy 41). As a child Charles Dickens
explored London and the fascination that he felt for this booming city remained with him throughout
his life (Rooke 15). Dickens received his first instruction from his mother and later attended regular
schools in
Chatham. When John Dickens, his wife, and their four children went to the debtor s prison, Charles
Dickens didn t go. He soon became intimate with his father s small collection of literary classics. He
also revealed early signs of genius. Dickens recollections of early life were centered in Kent and he
often regarded himself as a member of that region (Kaste 9). Dickens was sent to work at the age of
twelve in Worren s Blacking Warehouse. After his father s release he went back to school.. When
school was complete he went to work in an attorney s office. He spent much of his time exploring the
busy and varied life of London and decided to become a journalist. He mastered a difficult system of
shorthand and by March 1832, at the age of twenty, he was a general and

Abraham Lincoln During The Civil War
Abraham Lincoln, inaugurated in 1861 as the 16th president, was one of the most influential people in
American history. Less than month after Lincoln s installation, the Civil War broke out and lasted his
entire presidency until he was assassinated in April 1865. During the Civil War, Lincoln held the
Union together through all the hardship whilst running for reelection. Congress argued over the issue
of slavery for most of the war, while Lincoln focused more on the preservation of the Union. Before
presidency, Lincoln s view on race equality were not in favor of the slaves. Once he was inaugurated
and the war broke out, he focused more on trying to rebuild the United States. At the beginning of his
second term, as the Civil War concluded, Lincoln concentrated more on the subject of abolition.

As soon as the Confederation and the Union began to fight, Lincoln continually put forth an effort. He
used his allies to break the Confederacy by not recognizing them as a nation. Also in the Gettysburg
Address, Lincoln voiced that the Founders created this new nation in the ideas of liberty and honor. In
saying this, he showed how this nation was independent from the rest but united together as one in
power. Lincoln s ideals of the preservation of the Union were also very evident in the way he choose
his generals. He selected people with similar views in the matter of the Civil War. For instance, Grant
wanted a peaceful surrender at the Appomattox Court House where he asked the soldiers to lay down
their arms and leave. They both only wanted the Union and the Confederacy to be unified

Anabolic Steroids In The Sports World
In today s sports world, performance enhancing drugs have become more and more of a problem.
Famous athletes with records upon records do not always play by the rules. Celebrities with countless
amounts of fans and admires turn out to be nothing but a cheater. These athletes are paid millions of
dollars to simply perform, entertain, and follow the rules of their respected sport. Performance
enhancing drugs (PED s) have changed the way we look at athletes and their legacies. One of the most
common PEDs used in the sports world is anabolic steroids. Of course a long list of other drugs come
to mind such as Adderall and testosterone, but they all increase the human body s physical capabilities
in some way shape or form. Athletes use anabolic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He owns the record for most Tour de France titles with seven. Most people pictured him as a world
class athlete and hero after not only defeating cancer, but demolishing his competing year in and year
out in the Tour de France. His glorious life story inspired thousands if not millions of people across
the world effected by cancer. All of his fame came to a crashing halt in 2013 when he admitted that the
use of banned substances resulted in his success (Allen J.). Armstrong s name, image, and legacy
destroyed in the minds people all across the world. Even if he were still able to win those titles
without the use of illegal substances, the records and titles were all stripped from his name. Armstrong
s dope scandal opened the eyes of fans in every sport, causing them to have second thoughts on
professional athletes who find tremendous success in their respected sport. It also forced the sport of
bicycling to admit to problems related to drug use, leading to extreme anti doping involvement
(Pugmire L.) One man s cheating techniques has changed the entire sports community as a whole.
Another professional sports organization effected by the use of PEDs is the MLB. Crushing monster
homeruns that measure at extraordinary lengths is not an easy task. Throughout history the MLB has
ran into multiple dilemmas where some of the sport s biggest names have broken the rules. Barry
Bonds, the all time homerun leader in the MLB, and many other star baseball players were caught and
accused for the use of steroids and growth hormones during their careers. These stars were proven
guilty after a two year investigation of the BALCO scandal (Staff

Analysis Of The Still Mysterious Death Of Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe s death has stumped scientists and investigators everywhere, no one has any idea of
why he died. Poe s death is still a major mystery after he was found disheveled in the streets of
Maryland by a tavern. He was taken to a hospital, and couldn t have an official diagnostic. Poe spent
his time in the hospital going in and out of consciousness, he was in a psychotic state of mind. Many
ideas are very different in addressing the death of Poe due to the lack of evidence. However, Poe died
due to the method of cooping.
Firstly, Poe s death was by cooping because he was found outside a tavern where voters would go to
vote and then, were rewarded with beer. In article one, The Still Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe
it states, Voter fraud was extremely common in Baltimore around the mid 1800s, and the polling site
where Walker found the disheveled Poe was a known place that coopers brought their victims. (The
Still Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe) Poe was left beaten outside of the tavern. The place that is
described, where coopers left their victims seems much like the alleys that criminals leave their
victims in society today. In the second article, The Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe tells the
reader, Coincidence or not, the day Poe was found on the street was election day in Baltimore and the
place near where he was found, Ryan s Fourth Ward Polls, was both a bar and a place for voting. (The
Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe) Poe was found

Considerations of Food Safety
Food safety is one of the primary concerns in our industry, especially to those who process food in
large amounts. Therefore, proper sanitation must be provided in order to destroy microorganisms that
could possibly spoil and contaminate food products. Sanitizers are substances used to reduce and
inhibit most microorganisms present in surfaces of equipment and utensils. They are usually in the
form of liquid mixture applied directly on the surface of equipment or any material that may come in
contact with the food (Parker, 2007). In 2007, Harrison and Davidson revealed that the most common
sanitizers used in foods are hypochlorites, chlorine, iodophores, quats and acid anionics. However, in
2009, Schmidt discovered that use of these chemicals could cause corrosion, discoloration of products,
and distortion of flavor and odor (see Appendix). Also, carelessly handling of these chemicals could
also risk the personnel performing sanitation. Because of the hazardous effects of these chemicals
(hypochlorites, chlorine, iodophores, quats and acid anionics) in food industry, there is a necessity to
find alternative methods to further reduce microorganisms. At the same time, it should also have less
effect to the quality of the food being tested. Bacteriocin, a substance produced by microorganisms,
plays a defensive role in prohibiting invasion of strains or species. Thus, it could serve the purpose of
a being a sanitizer since it has high anti microbial activity. This substance,

Tropical Delight Softdrinks Essay
Tropical Delight Softdrinks
Problem Statement Tropical Delight Soft drinks is a small Canadian company that has a narrow line of
drinks with only three flavours that was relatively unknown in the Canadian market but popular in
markets of parts of Asia, South Asia and Tropical countries.
Situation Analysis
Strengths The soft drinks were made with 30% real juice, which is more appealing to consumers who
want natural flavours. The products were healthy and contain real fruit juices. Although the company
had a small market share, their sales increased steadily over the years. Weaknesses They had a narrow
line of products with only three flavours, which were relatively unknown in Canada. Although sales

Expand to other parts of British Columbia that also has a large minority population.
Option 1 Breakeven Analysis Total FC $310,000/0.60 contribution unit = 516,666.67 units
Option 2 Breakeven Analysis Total FC $200,000/.050 contribution unit = 400,000 units
Option 3 Breakeven Analysis Total FC $190,000/.55 contribution costs = 345,454.55 units
By using option 1 TDS will sell 116,666.67 units more in 2003 considering is they don t make any
changes, they are only expected to reach 400,000 bottles in sales, as a result they will break even in
option 2 and make a loss of (54,545.45 units) for option 3.
Key Decision Criteria To evaluate the alternatives, the key factors would be costs of setting up in other
cities within Canada and if it will generate more sales by setting up there. If by expanding, more sales,
more market shares and profits are generated then it is better to expand in that specific city but if the
costs of setting up there are more than the amount of sales you will make in that city then it is better
not to set up there.
Implementation
The best alternative to take would be to expand in the city that has the majority minority population,
which is to expand in other cities like Toronto. Due to the high demand for tropical food and drinks,
there is a need and thus can create large sales. Because these products will be known to the minority
market there, there may be a way to cut

Examples Of Benjamin Franklin s Thirteen Virtues
Benjamin Franklin wrote his report on his Thirteen Virtues to the common man of his time. However,
as the average man in the late 1700 s was considered to be a white male landowner, his virtues were
not intended to be applicable towards African Americans, women, and children, and as a result, the
virtues do not fit the roles of those people groups. In many circumstances, these Virtues did not affect
the minorities at all; others would only pertain to them at a future time. All three groups, African
Americans, women, and children, could have been influenced by Franklin s writings, and would be
able to then relate them to their lives. For African Americans, many of the virtues were already
expected of them. For example, they were already

Reasons For The Articles Of Confederation
What were some of the reasons that the Articles of Confederation needed some revision? The Articles
of Confederation needed revisions for several reasons. The first reason being that the articles created a
weak government. Secondly, there were many weaknesses that were evident and required immediate
attention. The weaknesses that were the most important were that the government could not establish a
mandatory taxation, did not have control over commerce and the nation lacked overall unity. These
weaknesses lead states to reject the original articles because these problems could simply not be
overlooked. The need for a stronger government, as well as solutions to the weaknesses presented, led
to the constitutional convention in Philadelphia

They had to find the dimensions, calculate its affect on in and on buildings (biomass) ( Glass ). Also come up with ways to keep any negative results from occurring by adding special features. A pathetic, weak minded person wouldn t be able to direct anyone, nor come up with these astonishing plans. This simply proves that astute individuals tend to have more success, which means the leader of this entire program, must be adroit. For a reference, if you think about classic glass windows, then in deserts we would need to install power installations of electricity. It all just goes to show how much technology is constantly improving day by day. We also have glass known as Low e glass. You may ask yourself what is Low e glass. Department of the Interior (USDI) drafted the Catoctin Mountain National Park Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) (2006) to impart knowledge of a need for action to facilitate the regeneration of vegetation and reforestation of the park. A population of white tailed deer that was exceeding an estimated 100 individual animals per square mile was over browsing the vegetation. This alternative would reach the goals through the length of the plan. The reduction in deer population would not be rapid and regeneration would be seen mostly in the exclusions until the population had diminished and the plan cost is over $9.5 million. The preferred alternative, alternative C was comprised of the continuation of alternative A with the use of sharpshooting and the subduing and euthanization of deer to rapidly reduce the population to the goal range in three years. Through this alternative the goals would be meet in a relatively short time frame at a cost between $738,600 and $941,100. The final alternative, alternative D also continued alternative A with the combination of sharpshooting, euthanization, and reproduction control. Alternative D would meet the goals of the plan in a similar time frame as alternative C with a cost of between $1.4 and $1.6 million. Rejected alternatives: Several alternatives were rejected for various reasons. The first rejected alternative was a managed hunt, for the need of legislation change in congress to allow a hunt on NPS land and possible cost and safety issues. • 8. The Research On Marine Mammal Captivity Introduction: In recent years, animals in captive environments such as zoos and theme parks have grown more controversial. The literature I have reviewed focuses on a particular group of animals in captivity, cetaceans. Cetaceans include whales, dolphins, and porpoises. The literature includes a range of themes, from their unique level of intelligence to why they may mentally and physically suffer in captive environments. However, it all connects to how and why these animals live and behave differently in captive environments than their wild counterparts. I had a unique method to how I researched the literature. Since marine mammal captivity is a personal interest of mine, I have attended educational conferences on the subject where I have made friends with many scientists such as Dr. Jeff Ventre and Dr. Lori Marino. Since I know them personally, I used their published research as a starting point because I was already familiar with it and knew exactly where to find it. From there, I mainly used the related articles feature within the database to read through titles and abstracts to find my other six sources. Intelligence: Cetacean intelligence has been studied for many years both in captivity and in the wild. A milestone discovery in cetacean intelligence is self awareness. An experiment was conducted with two male captive bottlenose dolphins in New York Aquarium. The dolphins were marked on a part of their body that was not visible without a mirror. After being ... Authors construct a story with realistic characters to enable readers in familiarizing themselves with the character. In Sandra Cisneros Eleven and Ray Bradbury s The Veldt, both authors reveal realistic characters by using descriptive writing with the use of literary devices, utilizing dialogue that reflects their young ages and developing the characters by encountering various types of narrations. The authors use realistic characters to provide a better reflection about the coming of age as a theme. He [George] could feel it on his neck, still, like a hot paw...And the smell of blood. (Bradbury 3). The author uses a simile to compare the heat of the sun to a hot paw in the African veldt which emphasizes the positive thoughts of the children. The smell of blood refers to death, which transitions into an unexpected thought from children. Bradbury uses a technique called foreshadowing by contrasting the positive thoughts and negative thoughts of the children. This explains the variation in the age of Peter as his thoughts begin to expand. Therefore, descriptive writing with the use of literacy devices reflect the overall theme; coming of age to create realistic characters. Authors use dialogues as a technique to display an important conversation between two characters or more. Realistic characters would comprise dialogues consisting apparent speech manners of a human being. Through dialogues, characters can interact in a way that could reveal expositional information (age) about a character which seems to be realistic. For example, Cisneros exaggerates the nervousness in Rachel, when she says, That s not, I don t, you re not...Not mine (Cisneros 2) after a classmate declares that the red sweater belongs to Rachel. Twenty million years ago, the Atlantic and Pacific oceans flowed freely between North and South America because there was no land barrier between them, which meant that the salinity of the oceans were similar. This meant that warm water vapor wasn t being carried up to the North Atlantic, like happens today. The bases of stories tend to remain the same, due to the fact that the main plots are unvarying. Throughout history, these famous fairytales have been passed on by word of mouth. The two most well known authors who wrote their interpretations of fairy tales are French author Charles Perrault (1628 1703), and The Brothers Grimm / Jacob (1785 1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786 1859). The list of variances could go on and on, however, the main difference is the color of the man s beard. In the fairy tale written by Perrault, Bluebeard indeed has a blue beard. However, this is not the case in the tale written by the Grimm Brothers, where in reality Bluebeard s beard is veritably black. Not only are there evident differences in the information presented in the writing, but in fact, the style of writing is much different as well. With these main variances in the ideas of the story, one may think that the tale of Bluebeard may differ between the two different versions, however that is not necessarily the case. When reading the adaptation by Perrault, the reader may find the story slightly complex and confusing. They ceased not to extol and envy the happiness of their friend (Perrault 2). It can be noted that Perrault uses words that may seem to be very formal and professional sounding, however, the reader can easily find themselves getting lost in the ocean of complex words and phrases. The field of graphic design encompasses many different sub sections including web design and printmaking, however, the field of graphic design is not very heavy on professional writing. Instead graphic design utilizes images to convey messages and concepts. Throughout this essay I will explore the formatting styles, genres and uses of writing, and how writing and rhetorical skills are translated into design skills. Formatting styles such as MLA, APA, and IEEE can be defining aspects of many different professions and careers, however they are not imperative within the field of graphic design. After conducting an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main genres of writing within the field include proposal writing and technical writing. Many articles I have found use specific terms associated with the field of Graphic Design. For example, the article Primary Design Elements Found in Outstanding Digital Illustrations, by a designer called LoungeKat, outlines and explains various elements of design such as negative space, implied texture, and monochromatic uses of color. Articles such as this one are mainly written to help designers improve their technique and develop a better understanding of how to create meaningful designs. Within this specific genre of technical writing, designers require an understanding of ethos because their audience need to feel that they are a credible source in the graphic design field. Specifically, within LoungeKat s article, technical terminology is utilized to develop that ethos as well as specific examples. However, a majority of the article utilizes simple language rather than advanced language. Many articles about graphic design maintain that sense of simplicity in their writing as well. I assume this is because the field is not heavy on writing or research and instead it focuses on art and visual designs so there is no need to use such a formal or advanced way of writing. In addition, credible sources such as peer journals are very important in many fields of work because they can be trusted to provide reliable information. During the interview I also asked ... While some Catholics and different branches of the English Church believe that this bread and wine are transformed into the literal blood and body of Christ, others believe that it is a simple expression of faith. It is considered to be the very essence of love that binds us to the savior; and it is this teaching of love that inspires the Catholic view on social justice. Social justice spreads love to all humankind, via fighting for equality and respect for all man. (Engerberton, 2003, p. 156) In order to understand the power of the Eucharist in Social Justice, basic points of the Catholic doctrine on this subject must also be understood. If Christian precepts prevail, the respective classes will not only be united in bonds of friendship, but also those of brotherly love. (Leo XIII, Rerum Morarun, 25) According to Leo XIII and his letter Rerum Morarun , social justice should be working towards uniting the classes, in not only friendship and equality, but also in brotherly love. This love and equality is mentioned again in Catholic social justice doctrine, by Pope Benedict in his encyclical letter Caritas in Virtitate . He states that charity is at the heart of the Church s social doctrine (Benedict XVI, Caritas in Veritate, 2). In speaking of charity, denoted by love for fellow man, the Pope is creating (or restating) the hypostasis of social justice. Pope John XIII authored an encyclical letter, Pacen in Terris, speaking of this love for fellow man, as stated in the following quote Human society, as we picture it, demands that men are guided by justice [...] It demands, too, that they be animated by such love [...] (John XIII, Pacen in Terris, 35) He talks of being guided by Christ s justice, but also of being animated by love . This blockbuster is an adaptation of Dr. Seaus s book the Lorax. The Lorax is a wonderful, live changing film of a young boy, Ted, who lived in the town of Thneedville. Thneedville is a town that is filled with everything artificial, even the trees! One day, Ted falls in love with a girl who dreams of finding a real tree. The third lesson is to not expect that everyone who has power or runs a company is making eco conscious decisions. Sometimes they companies fail to meet up to specific eco conscious standards and are able to pay their way through fines. The movie shows this through O Hair and how he tried to stop Ted from trying to grow trees. O Hair only thought of his business, and not about the effects of his business on the environment. The fourth and personally the most important lesson and to leave only footprints. During the movie, the Once ler cuts down of the trees and make Thneed. Instead of making this the Once ler could have painted a picture or took a picture of the trees to remember them by. This is a great lesson for all, and something I teach my students. It is better to take a picture of something or to draw it than to take nature from nature. You are doing more harm by messing things up, than if you were to take a picture. 9 times out of 10, the picture is going to last a lot longer than whatever you are taking. The fifth and final lesson is there is hope for the future, and we can change it. Grow a forest, protect it from axes that hack. Then the Lorax and all of his friends may come back. Said the Once ler. It is never too late to plant a tree, grow a garden, change your routine a little bit. The Earth will thank you by growing magnificent plants. John Was Preaching Against Rome John was preaching against Rome in Revelation In the late first century a follower of Jesus of Nazareth, John of Patmos, received a vision of the end the world. John later wrote this vision down and his writing has come down to modernity as The Book of Revelation also known as The Apocalypse of John. When John wrote Revelation was he using it as a coded message to preach against Rome? In this vision, John saw many images that could be read as Rome or Roman if viewed from a historical context. Subsequent generations have interpreted the imagery within their own historical context. With this paper I will argue that Revelation pertains to the Roman world and culture that John and his followers were living in, the events in Judea that are thought to have occurred within his life time and that John used some of the same imagery to connect his writing to the Hebrew Bible. There are two main competing dates for the writing of Revelation, an early date of 69 70 and a later date of 90 92. • 26. Plato s Republic, And His Sun Analogy In this essay I will attempt to illustrate the role of the Form of the Good in regards to other Forms and knowledge as the highest form, and a unifying force. Particular emphasis will be placed on Socrates discussion of it in The Republic, and his sun analogy. I will argue that its epistemological role is perhaps most convincing, as the other two fall to a number of criticisms. Other criticisms will be offered, including how vague the theory is, and those offered by Aristotle in particular. The Form of the Good is notoriously ambiguous, in that it is difficult to pin down precisely what it is. In Plato s Republic, through the character of Socrates, we see an attempt to describe what the Form of the Good is, or, at the very least, some general idea of its nature. After stating that philosophers make the best rulers to his interlocutor, Glaucon, he establishes the way to distinguish philosophers from non philosophers. Philosophers can pick out non sensible properties of a Form (eg beauty), as opposed to the non sensible particulars of a thing (such as a beautiful vase). However, Socrates makes it clear that the most important thing for a philosopher king is the knowledge of the Form of the Good. While there are many other Forms, the Good is ultimately superlative in that it is the highest or most superior. Socrates states that it has three key roles. Also, in a time of AIDS, promotion of sexual promiscuity is a dangerous thing: never have the writers mentioned the use of condoms by Chef during his encounters. Finally, because of the recent advances in genetic research and its awakening of new fears in the public, South Park s parody of the geneticist could further play on people s fears. The 1957 MGM film Twelve Angry Men compels the characters in the film and the audiences to view their own self image when making a decision on the guilt of an eighteen year old boy who is accused of killing his father. By using logic, reflection, and attitude, the movie shows each of the characters to review their views and beliefs and how they see themselves and others. • 40. Single Mothers Are Not The Problem By Ryan M. Society, as a whole, tends to look at the world with a set of judgmental eyes. Sometimes, this judgement is blatantly obvious. Other times, it is not. However, it is always there, hidden in the way we live our lives. This is because over time society has managed to ingrain into us an almost utopian set of ideals, meant to force us into a state of normality ideals that we, as humans, are expected to follow. If we conform to these standards then we pass the test and are considered normal. On the other hand, if we deviate from those standards, we fail and are considered deviant. Concepts such as gender socialization, cultural norms, stereotypes, and social status are all used by society to assess our level of deviance. If found to be deviant, society seeks to isolate the abnormality from the normal population in an effort to prevent further corruption. Thus, the notion of stigma is born. ... • 45. Considerations of Food Safety Food safety is one of the primary concerns in our industry, especially to those who process food in large amounts. Therefore, proper sanitation must be provided in order to destroy microorganisms that could possibly spoil and contaminate food products. Sanitizers are substances used to reduce and inhibit most microorganisms present in surfaces of equipment and utensils. They are usually in the form of liquid mixture applied directly on the surface of equipment or any material that may come in contact with the food (Parker, 2007). In 2007, Harrison and Davidson revealed that the most common sanitizers used in foods are hypochlorites, chlorine, iodophores, quats and acid anionics. However, in 2009, Schmidt discovered that use of these chemicals could cause corrosion, discoloration of products, and distortion of flavor and odor (see Appendix). Also, carelessly handling of these chemicals could also risk the personnel performing sanitation. Because of the hazardous effects of these chemicals (hypochlorites, chlorine, iodophores, quats and acid anionics) in food industry, there is a necessity to find alternative methods to further reduce microorganisms. At the same time, it should also have less effect to the quality of the food being tested. Bacteriocin, a substance produced by microorganisms, plays a defensive role in prohibiting invasion of strains or species. Thus, it could serve the purpose of a being a sanitizer since it has high anti microbial activity. This substance, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If by expanding, more sales, more market shares and profits are generated then it is better to expand in that specific city but if the costs of setting up there are more than the amount of sales you will make in that city then it is better not to set up there. Implementation The best alternative to take would be to expand in the city that has the majority minority population, which is to expand in other cities like Toronto.
