For Gay Marriage
Expository Writing
Analyzing a Text #2
Molly O Brien In the Boston Globe newspaper editorial For Gay Marriage the editors argue that
gay marriage should be legalized. Throughout the article the Globe Editors mention the expanding
circle of rights, the circle includes the civil rights movement, gender equality, rights for the
disabled, 18 year olds to vote, single mothers and adoptive parents. It is apparent that the right for
gay marriage should occur ( Globe A18).These advances have occurred with the help of court
cases. The 1967 supreme court case and Loving V. Virginia Court rulings ruled that the ban on
interracial marriage was unconstitutional ( Globe A18). Along with the court precedents The
Globe uses Hillary Goodridge as an example when she was unable to see her newly born
daughter in the hospital because she was not married to her partner of 15 years. (A18). The
Editors discuss opposing reasons why gay marriage should not be legalized by the Massachusetts
Attorney General. One argument the attorney general makes is that marriage is, ...A social
institution designed to promote child bearing and rearing (A18). The Globe the refutes this
statement because same sex couples are not denied the right to adopt as well as they do the
everyday things an opposite sex couple would do (A18). In the Boston Globe article editors use
court precedents and emotional stories to argue that gay marriage should be legalized. One form of
evidence the Globe uses to support that gay

Symbolism In Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven
The poem The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe can have many symbolic meanings. Really depending
on what type of reader you are and how you interpret things has a big impact on the symbolic
meanings. Per chapter 25 of the book How to Read Literature Like a Professor A lot of things in
the world have more or less ready made associations. But it also says that there are layers of
possible meanings so readers take what they can find and are prepared to deal with at the moment
they are reading at.
Using this information there isn t really a wrong way to look at the symbols in this poem, which
are many. In this interpretation, I will talk about the five symbols that are repeated or made
emphasis on in this poem. These symbols include; Lenore, the Raven, ... Show more content on

The creature being all black could symbolize darkness itself. Enhancing the imagery, and
symbolism if the night. As I mentioned before about how the book How to Read Literature Like
a Professor mentions how we as readers begin to recognize symbols in literature, I think we also
begin to make connections between some of the symbols too. Some symbols are a lot easier to
recognize than others. Which is something else chapter 25 of How to Read Literature Like a
Professor tells us. Darkness is definitely one of those symbols that represent almost always the
same thing in every piece of

Huron Community Reflection
I found a quote about three years ago on a wall at my camp that has stuck with me ever since.
Each one of us can make a difference. Together we make change. The quote is by an American
politician by the name Barbara Mikulski and although I do not know what her personal beliefs
are, personally this is a mantra I aspire to live by. I want to make a difference in the world, and my
first step out of high school on that path would be at the Centre for Global Studies at Huron
University College. I believe that one of the things that makes Huron special is it s smaller size in
comparison to many other universities. I spent my first three years of high school in a large school
with classes with as many as 35 40 students. It was quite difficult for... Show more content on

I am extremely passionate about social justice issues and love to find other like minded people
who I can work with to raise awareness about issues that we are passionate about as. I have been
working with an organization called Free the Children since I was eight years old: helping with
the club at my school, attending We Day (a day of celebration in 3 5 major Canadian cities for
students who have made both local and global change commitments) five years in a row initially
as an attendee and then two times as a volunteer, and I also attended their social justice summer
camp initially as a camper and then I was chosen as a LIT or leader in training which may open
up the doors to be on summer staff there in the future. At this camp, I was invited to think
critically about many social justice issues and I gained leadership skills that built on the
leadership skills I had already developed through my five year experience as co captain of an

The White City By Erik Larson
Erik Larson s literary nonfiction novel The Devil in the White City surrounds the events of the
1893 Columbian Exposition World s Fair in Chicago. Larson does a magnificent job intertwining
the lives of two men who were changed by the events of the fair. Daniel H. Burnham, the brilliant
architect behind the legendary 1893 World s Fair and Dr. H. H. Holmes, the cunning serial killer
who used the fair to lure his victims to their death. The purpose of this review is not only to
summarize Larson s fascinating and satisfying work which vividly portrays one of the last grand
gasps of the nineteenth century, but to also evaluate his work as a writer while providing a critical
analysis of his book.
As stated The Devil in the White City is a novel based on true events which I personally found
intriguing since the way Larson conveys his writing makes it seem almost fictional. Larson s
novel focuses on two main characters Daniel H. Burnham and Dr. H. H. Holmes born Herman
Webster Mudgett. Larson first introduces Burnham with the sentence He was sixty five years old
and had become a large man. His hair had turned gray, his mustache nearly white, but his eyes
were as blue as ever, bluer at this instant by proximity to the sea (p.3). While reading the book we
discover that Burnham was the architect who got contracted to build the 1893 Chicago World s
Fair with John Root. Unfortunately, we also discover that John Root dies before the fair even
begins construction, leaving all of

Trunk Movement Analysis
In relation to trunk movement and this week s forum, I chose to write about the sit up. The sit up is
commonly implemented to tone and strengthen the abdominal muscles as an endurance training
exercise. Within the exercise, you are strengthening the rectus abdominus along with engaging the
internal and external obliques. Your rectus abdominis attaches to ribs 5 through 7 and starts at
your pubic bone while stretching, in a straight line, upwards to your ribs. It is activated every time
your ribs are brought towards your thighs. It is also accountable for guiding the tilt of your pelvis
and the curvature of your lower spine. Your obliques, on the other hand, consist of the lateral
abdominal muscles and promote flexion, rotation and bending of the spine Nevertheless, because of
the sit ups wide range of motion, additional muscles (assisting muscles) consist of the rectus
femoris, iliopsoas, sartorius, and tensor fasciae latae, and obliques.... Show more content on

Your iliopsoas is attached to your femur, crosses your hips, and attaches to the lower ribs. This
muscle promotes flexing of the hip and spine rotation. Your sartorius runs diagonally across the
front of your thigh and is a long, narrow muscle which assists with both bending of the hip and
knee. Your tensor fascia latae is a thin muscle that runs from the pelvis to the tibia and assists
with hip flexion as well as leg abduction. While both the primary and secondary muscles play a
large role in the overall movement, it could not be performed properly without the stabilizing
muscles. This muscle involves the tibialis anterior, which runs from the top of your shin bone
down to your first metatarsal, (big toe) and helps you flex your ankle. As you come into a sitting
position, slight tension is along the front of the legs. This is your tibialis anterior becoming
engaged in order to keep your ankle

21 Day Challenge Research Paper
The 21 day challenge was a great experience for me, and I think it overall made me a happier
person. It was easiest for me to just set apart a time each night to journal about a positive
experience, write down three things I am grateful for, and pray. For me writing three things I
was grateful for each day was the aspect of this challenge that increased my happiness the most.
It is easy for me to just think about all the negative aspects of my life and not really think about
all the positives, so by writing them down each day it made me realize how much I have to be
grateful for. I realized that most of the day I would focus on the bad things that happened, so it
was nice to focus on all the good parts of my life. When I started the challenge,... Show more

Most of the time there are million things going on, so a few minutes to not think about things like
work and school was very relaxing or me. Overall I don t think praying made me much happier,
but it did help me because it was a time to just be alone with my thoughts. Completing a random act
of kindness each day was somewhat challenging at first because I would forget about doing it,
and I would remember later at night and have to do something before going to bed. However
later in the challenge I found it much easier to remember to complete these random acts of
kindness. After completing these acts of kindness, I felt much happier because it is a good
feeling knowing you have helped someone. I felt good knowing that I helped someone or made
their day a little better. Overall, I think this challenge increased my level of happiness because it
made me realize I have a lot to be thankful for, and there are many more positives in my life than
what I realized. When I looked through my notebook consisting of the positive experiences and the
3 things I was grateful for it was very nice that instead of just remembering the bad things that
happened those days I now can remember the good things. I have a lot more to be happy about than
I thought I did going into this challenge. I now find myself realizing things that I am grateful for

Characteristics Of Jay In The Great Gatsby
My life has got to be like this, it s got to keep going up (Fitzgerald). It is this kind of attitude
towards life that makes James Gatz great. He is a very motivated man who is always looking for
ways to improve. From the time he was a boy in North Dakota, it was clear that James was going
to be successful. When he ran away from home, it was the beginning of the ascent of his life.
Gatsby is great because of his determination, independence, and imagination.
When Gatsby meets Daisy, he is in love at first sight. Jay is in military training at Camp Taylor
in Louisville, Kentucky when they first meet. Daisy comes from a very wealthy family, and had
no idea that Gatsby is, in fact, very poor. This relationship would be acceptable for Daisy s
family, and Gatsby knows that. This motivates him to live the kind of lifestyle that the reader sees
when he first meets Gatsby. Jay is determined to have everything absolutely perfect, all for Daisy.

passes away, Jay gets his inheritance stolen right out of his hands. When he is left with no money,
Gatsby needs to figure out what to do. At this period in time, having no money can be devastating

The Works Of William Shakespeare And Sir Philip Sidney
Edmund Spenser was a notorious English poet known for writing the long allegorical poem The
Faerie Queen. Born into a family of very little wealth he was enrolled into the Merchant Taylors
grammar school. He later went on to study at the University of Cambridge where he received his
Bachelor of Arts degree in 1573. The time he spent at Cambridge was undoubtly very crucial for
the acquisition of his wide knowledge not only of the Latin and some of the Greek classics but
also of the Italian, French, and English Literature of his own and earlier times. Without the Roman
epic poet Virgil s Aeneid, the 15th century Italian Ludovico Ariosto s Orlando furioso, and, later,
Torquato Tasso s Gerusalemme liberata (1581), Spenser could not have written his heroic, or epic,
poem The Faerie Queene. The corpus of Spenser can be discussed in the context of the works of
William Shakespeare and Sir Philip Sidney. The three share an influence in the same popular
Renaissance literary genre, Pastoral, which can be depicted as an idealized vision of a simpler,
rural life and a longing for a lost world of innocence. Much happened in the time of the
Renaissance, including Reformation and an epidemic so it made sense to want to write about less
complex ways of living as a way to escape reality.
In The Faerie Queen, Spenser writes with the intent to show young men what better virtues to
cultivate in their lives. He does an excellent job doing this by his use of symbolism and descriptive
imagery.

Hypertension Is The Medical Term For Having High Blood...
In this project Jose, Diana, Adrian and I were tasked with producing a menu for persons with
hypertension and a nut allergy. Hypertension is the medical term for having high blood pressure.
One of the main causes of hypertension is a poor diet. It is affected most commonly by high
levels of sodium (Pg. 321). To combat high blood pressure, the DASH diet was developed. DASH
stands for dietary approaches to stop hypertension. Foods that are recommended to eat while on the
DASH diet are whole grains, fruits and vegetables, fat free or low fat dairy, lean meat, poultry,
fish, nuts, seeds, beans, fats and oils, sweets, and sodium limited to under 2400 milligrams per
day (Pg. 322). The only perceivable obstacle for the menu development was the recommendation
for nuts. However, the nutrients provided through nuts can be found in other foods like fats and
oils and various protein sources. The first item on the menu is a quinoa patty as an appetizer.
The dish contains quinoa, carrot, celery, onion, egg, olive oil, peppers, and a dash of salt. We
chose this as our appetizer because it appears to follow the DASH diet quite well. Quinoa is a
whole grain; carrots, celery, onions, and peppers represent the fruits and vegetables category; the
egg is not a low fat dairy product, but the amount of egg in the recipe is very minimal; olive oil is
a fat and oil, and the quinoa patties are lightly salted in an attempt to keep flavor yet stay under the
recommended daily limit. The first entree

Historical Context Of Babylon Revisited
Knowing the historical context of a work is crucial to understanding both its general meaning and
its deeper essence. Often times, authors use their works as outlets to freely express their personal
feelings toward a social trend or issue. As such, the time in which a story is written can have a
strong influence on the message the author is trying to convey to his or her reader. Their personal
reflections can be asserted in many ways; among the most common being through the characters
themselves and their development throughout the work, the setting, and the implied themes.
An example of a work that is heavily influenced by the time period in which it was written is F.
Scott Fitzgerald s short story Babylon Revisited. Set in Paris during the 1920s, this work
delineates the story of a man named Charlie Wales who was at the pinnacle of his life when he
succumbed to greed, irresponsibility, and addiction. As a result of his carelessness, Wales
experiences a tragic downfall. He not only endures the death of his wife Helen, but he also loses his
material fortune, his reputation, and most importantly the custody of his daughter Honoria.
The time in which this story occurs the 1920s is vital to the plot. Dubbed The Roaring 20s, this
period is notorious for glamorizing lifestyles centered around materialism, gluttony, and self
absorption. The early 20th century brought about extreme social and political changes that
influenced the lifestyles and attitudes of the public.

Examples Of Existentialism In The Prussian Officer
The great works of literature that dominated the twentieth century, were largely influenced by and
representative of the pivotal movements, philosophers, and scientists of the era. The Prussian
Officer is primarily reliant on both Existentialist philosophy, as well as Freudian thought. Both
serve to explore the psychological entities of the Captain and the orderly, and how their
simultaneous awakenings led to their mutual destruction. The core of Existentialismis within the
feelings of angst and desperation a person feels when realizing and beginning to understand the
absurdity of the world, and how he attempts to overcome it. The orderly is the paradigm of this

The orderly originally exemplifies this ideal, he is grounded and is not generally swayed by the
contempt and externalized frustration of the Officer. As the plot progresses, however, he
gradually becomes more and more distanced from himself, as a fierce battle insinuated by the
Officer between his conscious and subconscious lead to the deterioration of the orderly s identity,
as well as his sanity. On the surface, his conscious attempts to do what it has always done follow
the orders of the Officer without the need for justification. Below the surface, however, his
subconscious grows irritated and perplexed by the Officer s fierce disdain. Readers experience a
paradigm shift within the context of the narrative. The once unperturbed temperament of the
orderly begins to decay, his contemptuousness towards his oppressor simmering and finally
erupting in a spontaneous and volatile act of violence, in which he murders the Officer, and
eventually dies himself, in a fatal daze of physical thirst and

Employee Teacher Reflection
Portfolio
It has now come to my understanding that as a trainee teacher, it is vital that I become a reflective
practitioner when fostering the role of a teacher. In support of this, Tripp (2012, p.12) adds that
being reflective is an essential part of the development of professional judgement . He continues to
state that one must be able to examine and critique their teaching to build on their own professional
values and ideas.
It is through this theory that as a trainee teacher, I must be able to examine my own critical
incident from my school based training placement (SBT1). I will be employing Tripp s four
approaches of analysis Thinking Strategies, The Why? Challenge, Dilemma Identification and
Personal Theory Analysis (Tripp, 2012, pp. 43 54). However, before I start my analysis, it is
important to identify what a critical incident is. Tripp (2012) states that critical incidents are
shaped by the way we look at a situation. He further adds that a critical incident is an interpretation
of the significance of an event (p. 8).
The context of my incident took place in a year four class within the Borough of Barking and
Dagenham. It consisted of me teaching a whole class Literacy lesson where the majority of the
pupils were considered or categorised as having English as an additional language.
Incident
My critical incident occurred in the last week of my placement. I was teaching a sequence of

Female Selective Abortion And Infanticide
There is a crisis in Asia, a problem centuries old and still happening. This problem is missing
girls, but not in a traditional sense. These girls either never make it into the world or live horrible
short lives before dying at the hands of their parents. This problem is female selective abortion and
infanticide. This problem has taken roots in the two largest countries on earth population wise,
India and China. Many solutions to the problem have been posed over the years and a few of
them might work. India is one of the worst countries to live in as a woman. It is one of the
strongest male dominated societies. They rely on the patriarchy to support their way of life and
rural women internalize their roles from birth and fear having a daughter. There are many
causes of infanticide in India, the three main causes are social, economic, and historical. The
social causes range from family pressure for a male offspring to the stigma against females in
general. It is seen in all of the castes and in urban as well as rural regions. On average female
children are neglected more than their male counterparts. For example 71% of female toddlers
are malnourished compared to 28% of males. Also males go to the hospital twice as often as
females ( Female Infanticide in India and China). A male infant will be taken to the hospital for
even just a cough, whereas a female will be left untreated with diseases such as pneumonia and
tuberculosis for the reason that women are expendable in

She wanted to let women know that they have a voice in the world, and that they could accomplish
great things. Her main career was being a physician, and was one of the first female Methodist

in 1871. Because of her preaching and lectures about temperance, she was able to attend Albion

woman in her class. She struggled there, but she finally graduated in 1878. She was denied
access to East Dennis, Massachusetts because she was a woman. The Methodist Protestant

Right Visual Field Essay
In my trials, I found that when the word flashed in the patient s right visual field, and they were

Demographic And Socio Economic Changes
Demographic and socio economic changes effect cities, its economy and ultimately the country as
a whole. Changes in demographics tells us if an area is losing or gaining population and may act
accordingly to help it survive. Family patterns change over a period of time as more women go out
for jobs rather than stay at home. As medical field advances, the life span of human increases and
these changes can show that the median age of the populationis growing. Setting up of new
industries or business houses in a city might bring in the working population and help in improving
the economic condition of the area.

Paulo Freire s The Banking Concept Of Education
One topic that is widely debated today is education and how well children are being taught. This
is a hard thing to improve because every child learns differently. So how do you create a system to
fit everyone s needs? A man named Paulo Freire studied the educational system and points out it s
flaws in his essay, The Banking Concept of Educationwhere he explains how children are being
taught and proposes a better method. Mike Rose in his essay, I Just Want To Be Average explains
in detail his experiences in the schoolsystem and the problems he sees in school systems.
In his essay The Banking Concept of Education Freire describes the faults in our current
educational system and the method he believes should replace it. He shows how the banking
concept of education creates an environment where students just receive and store information, but

New York Knicks Research Paper
Time is beginning to run out on the New York Knicks playoff hopes after dropping another close
game in Philadelphia.
In a too familiar position this season the New York Knicks found themselves in another close game
with their division rivals. The Philadelphia 76ers executed down the stretch to once again pull out a
clutch victory against the Knickerbockers 105 102 overcoming a double digit deficit.
Carmelo Anthony s game winning shot magic last weekend didn t carry over to Philadelphia last
night as he couldn t convert. The frustrating loss added more controversy to the team locker room
as Anthony spoke to reporters subliminally criticizing head coach Jeff Hornacek s lack of
adjustments during games.

The loss was critical in the Knicks quest for a playoff spot as it dropped their record to 25 37 and
4.5 games behind the Detroit Pistons for the final spot in the Eastern Conference. On the other
side of the spectrum, New York is in even better position to earn a top ten pick in this summer s
NBA draft. Anthony however in a quote to the New York Daily News is not a fan of the tanking
theory fans and media have been throwing at the team lately.
I don t believe in tanking, As a player you always disagree with that. Because we re the ones who

from a fan s perspective to say, okay, just tank or just lose games. I don t know how you do that
as a player, I don t know how you go into a game saying, Today we re going to try to lose this
game or these next 15 games we re going to figure out ways to lose and tank the season and try to
start thinking about draft picks. That s a terrible way to think and I don t think no player in sports

Under Armour Kevin Plank History
In 1996, Kevin Plank, a former special teams captain at the University of Maryland had an idea
for clothing that would revolutionize the way athletics would be played. In his days in college
playing football and going through two a days, he knew there had to be a better solution to
dealing with perspiration than changing his cotton shirts. Plank created a shirt with moisture
wicking performance fibers, engineered to keep athletes cool, dry, and light even in the most hot
and brutal conditions. In 1997, Under Armour created clothes for all seasons, whether it s cold or
hot. As Plank began to search the East coast, he came from selling gear out of the trunk of his car

William Durant founded General Motors on September 16, 1908. He was already a leader in
manufacturing horse drawn carriages, so it was only to be expected that his new company
would be a leader in vehicle manufacturing. There was only one company under their name at the
beginning, but the company would go on to have Oldsmobile, Chevy, Hummer, Cadillac,
Pontiac, and many more. With every vehicle and company they added their philosophy became
to have a car for every purse and purpose. In 1927, an advancement came that would shape the
way we know cars today, the Cadillac LaSalle was released. This car featured curves rather than
the sharp edges Ford s Model T people knew. However, an increase in price and competition led
to a downsizing of vehicles in the 60 s and 70 s. They searched for ways to use low to unleaded
gasoline in their vehicles. General Motors was the first to offer air bags in the vehicles in 1972.
However, as foreign importation began to increase, GM lost their hold on the American market.
During the 80 s and 90 s, General Motors focused on expanding their market outside of America.
In September of 2015, Volkswagen, a company under General Motors, came out that their cars
had violated the Clean Air Act. This scandal caused a loss in investors, which cause their stock
price to go down ( General Motors History Heritage GM.com. ). However, on October 23, the Wall

Ever since I was a little kid, I had been fascinated by the idea of an infinite universe. I would watch

A Brief Note On Companies And The Largest Ever Consumer...
Case Study #2: Maxxed Out: TJX Companies and the Largest Ever Consumer Data Breach
There are five components to the operations security process that companies use to analyze. These
five modules provide a company a full analysis of the risks, vulnerabilities, and threats of their data
and how to mitigate them. This process identifies all the critical information the company or
organization have such a credit card information like TJX had on their main server. Identifying this
information is crucial so the business knows what valuable assets, or data is being stored. If a
company does not recognize this material, the material is unprotected.
Once the information has been identified, the organization or enterprise will complete an analysis ...

Also, TJX did not apply counter measures in place of those defined vulnerabilities or threats which
costed the company huge losses. If the company implemented the WPA securityprotocol, the risks
could have been small.
There are multiple methods to improve the security at TJX to prevent future breaches. The network
wireless system should be upgraded to Wi Fi Protected Access2, WPA2, from WEP. WPA2
provides the most secure protocol that is available on a wireless network. WPA2 uses Advanced
Encryption Standard to encrypt all the data when the data is in motion. AES encryption takes a
hacker months, even years to break. If the company wants customers to have free Wi Fi then have
two separate networks in which one is has a network password and other just requires a login with
terms and conditions.
For the wired/wireless connections, TJX can institute a virtual private network, or VPN, to connect
with the servers that have sensitive information. This allows the connection between the servers
and device to be secure but the data is not. VPN does have limitation such as devices, but is an
alternative to WPA2 and better than WEP. VPN is ideal for documents such as sales reports,
inventory, and strategies. TJX must implement these standards on all of the retail locations to
safeguard all the data being processed throughout the business day.

Analysis Of The Film The Flies By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Artistically speaking, this film is beautiful. There was a lot of thought put into every detail from
the actors to the camera shots. The film seems to flow in beautiful manner from one scene to the
next. One piece of art in the film is the use of symbols. Each symbol is delicately placed in order
to make sense to any viewers that can pick up on them. One symbol is Nick s obsession with his
Peace Lily. It represents his obsession with the job. It is the only other thing he cares for because
its needs are simple and by the books. When he breaks it, it is supposed to symbolize his change of
heart; that somebody has taken the place of the lily. Another symbol in the filmis the number 3.
There are 3 murders that take place before people believe Nicholas. There are 3 people Nick tries
to talk to in order to get out of being sent to Sanford. Many lines are repeated 3 times over. This
could be in reference to fairytales always using the number 3, since this plot seems far fetched
like a fairytale. However, it could also be in reference to the trilogy of films that Wright and Pegg
made together. Then, there is the swan symbol. Swans typically symbolize grace, beauty, and
peace. In the film, though, the swans symbolize an overbearing distraction. Nicholas is constantly
surrounded by them in the hotel he stays at, which is rightly called The Swan Hotel . He is also
charged with the task of catching an escaped swan. This causes him to miss many chances to catch
the perpetrators of

Nintendo Market Analysis
4C stakeholder s analysis of Nintendo Wii Market in 2006

existence of a consumer market that distanced itself from gaming. They opined that existing games
were not only difficult to understand and play, but also found the consoles complex to operate. The
games were built more on fantasy and targeted towards traditional over 18 year old male[1]

Nintendo made a conscious attempt to bring the non gamers into the spot light and create a new

Energy consumption bill to Wii consumers is as low as USD 10 per year compared to USD 130

Place (Distribution): The Company due to its long presence in the industry had existing distribution
network. The company appointed at least one distributor in each state in U.S. who in turn
distributed the product and software to retailers. They were able to place and display the product at
major super markets and shopping malls.
However even after a year of its launch Nintendo was heavily criticized and confronted for not
meeting the demand. This may have been due to genuine shortages of parts and their inability to
correctly forecast the demand. The queues to purchase Wii were still there even after one year of
its launch.
Though there is no concrete evidence, and Nintendo might have created the scarcity to maintain
high interest and curiosity. They realized that due to the uniqueness of the product, consumers are

Bizzozero Staining Procedure
An experiment Evaluating whether PCNA supports the classification of Bizzozero (1894) tissues
tissues placed in three categories, reflecting their replicative potential.
Introduction
The aim of this experiment was to utilise PCNA and staining procedures to determine whether
different tissue cell samples proliferate. Tissue which exhibited brown stains prove cell
proliferation and mitotic divisions, this would suggest it being the in the first group of Bizzozero s
grouping of tissue types. Tissue samples which showed no brown staining meant no cells had
proliferated and therefore were of a different tissue type that do not regenerate while present in the
body. The PCNA proteinis present during cell division/mitosis therefore, its presence suggests that
cell proliferation is occurring or has occurred. An area can be stained using brown
diaminobenzidine (DAB) by using an antibody that is against the PCNA protein. A primary
antibody then attaches to the PCNA molecule, and a secondary antibody (horse radish peroxidase)
attaches to the primary antibody. A... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tissue sample B showing no brown staining visible:
Tissue sample C showing minimal brown staining:
Conclusion
The three different tissue types exhibit differing levels of cell replication. Proliferation did not
take place in tissue sample A compared to Tissue sample b having very minimal cell proliferation.
The experiment conducted supports Bizzozero s 1894 article which illustrates that based on where
the cells originate from, the cell proliferation will differ.

The Consequences Of The Cuban Revolution
The Cuban Revolution was a necessary act that attempted to improve the lives of the cuban
population through many horrific events. The Cuban Revolution, which began in the early 1950 s,
was an overthrow of a corrupt government. Throughout Fidel Castro s multiple attempts to improve
the horrific conditions of the Cuban population, the Revolution became a long and tragic journey
beginning with the 26th of July Movement, to The Bay of Pigs invasion, to The Cuban Missile

In 1940 to 1944, communist Fulgencio Batista withheld power as the president of Cuba and then
from 1952 to 1959, United States backed dictator until fleeing Cuba because of Fidel Castro s 26th

with an honest democratic government by diminishing the corrupt way in which the country was
run, the large role the United States played in the running of Cuba as well as the poor treatment the
living conditions of the lower class. On July 26th, 1953, Fidel Castro led one hundred and twenty
nine men and two women in a daring assault against the Moncada army Barracks in Santiago de

Examples Of Emotional Appeals
Context
Every message an audience receives is composed of information which appeals to them on both
rational an emotional levels. Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of
Michigan, Ted Brader, states in his article published in Journal of Political Science that while
rational appeals rely on the relay of information so the audience can make utilitarian decisions,
emotional appeals motivate responses by making the audience feel a certain way. This paper sets
out to establish what has been understood regarding emotional appeals, and to critically evaluate
what has been proposed surrounding their use. Understanding emotional appeals is relevant,
especially in a post truth society, because these appeals have the power to influence ... Show more

There is something else to consider when examining emotional appeals, regardless of its
association, which is the rationality of the appeal itself. National Research Council in Italy member,
Miceli, and university professors Rosis and Poggi, argue in their paper for Applied Artificial
Intelligence that messages which appeal to emotions are not always irrational, while Panda, Mishra,
and Brader propose that irrational behaviour is best encouraged through emotional appeals.
Panda, Professor of Marketing, and Mishra, Doctoral Scholar at Ravenshaw University, find in their
contribution to The IUP Journal of Brand Management that companies whose advertisements
created emotional links with their audience through colour, music, and tonalities were far more
successful in garnering an audience willing to pay high premiums than those whose advertisements
focused on information, formatting rational appeals. Their research also shows that affective
buying behaviour (behavioural response to an affective advertising appeal) is not only less stressful
for consumers, but also that consumers required less information about their product before they
buy it. Panda and Mishra s work demonstrates that emotion has the potential to override the need
for information and rational decision making because when exposed to an affect laden advertising

The movie starts off in the winter of 1776 just six months after the colonies declared

The Chesapeake Region and The New England Region Colonies...
The Chesapeake region and New England colonies greatly differed in their development of their
two distinct societies. The Chesapeake region was a loosely fitted society with little connection
with each plantation while the New England colonies had tightly knitted communities with a sort of
town pride. The difference in unity and the reason for this difference best explain the significant
disparity between the dissimilar societies.
The New England and Chesapeake region had evolved into two different societies because the
world was changing and a lot of people didn t like the change that was taking place so they left. For
example, the Church of England was said to be corrupted. That is one of the main reasons for the

The great lack of unity between the colonists in the Chesapeake region is evident the events that
occur later in the Chesapeake regions history. Governor Berkeley asking for troops from
England revealed the important point that unity was greatly lacking, as they could not fend off
the united Dutch assaults with the lack of unity among the rich and the poor (Document G).
The hunt for greed in the Chesapeake region led to a strong revolt from Bacon. The lack of
doing anything for the safety of the citizens of the Chesapeake region by Governor Berkeley led
to a strong revolt by Bacon (Document H). The New England residents were resourceful and
unified as shown in Document E as they worked out their problems and therefore set a standard
wage for all workers. The very seeds of the first settlers arriving in each area founded all these
problems and solutions.
With the different types of people being sent to each settlement, both had different objectives and
outcomes. New England from the very beginning was determined to work together for two goals:
to preach and to follow the ways of God. The had to become tightly knitted as one and do
everything from mourn to dance with one another. The New England colonies or the Massachusetts
Bay colony in this case acted as a city upon a hill where everyone else especially God was

A Report On Stockholm Syndrome
Abstract
According to the United States Department of Justice reports, each year nearly 800,000 children
are claimed to be missing. This shows that each day, over 2,000 children are reported missing.
Kidnappings occur for a variety of reasons, and at the hands of many different people ( Children
Exploitation and Obscenity Section , n.d.). For example, the United States Department of Justice
claims that 203,000 children are kidnapped by family members annually, while 58,200 are abducted
by individuals outside of the family annually ( Children Exploitation and Obscenity Section , n.d.).
Kidnappings occur more frequently than the public realizes. The physical and psychological affects
being kidnapped has on the victim varies for each individual. One reaction to hostile kidnappings or
hostage situations is the development of Stockholm syndrome. According to the FBI law
enforcement bulletin, Understanding Stockholm Syndrome by De Fabrique, Romano, Vecchi, and
Van Hasselt (2007), nearly 27% of kidnapping victims display signs of Stockholm syndrome.
Kidnapping Victims and Stockholm Syndrome
What is Stockholm Syndrome Stockholm syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which the
victim identifies with their captor (Namnyak, Tufton, Szekely, Toal, Worboys, Sampson, 2008).
This may be apparent through sympathy, positive feelings toward their captor, and some even
defend their kidnapper (Namnyak, et. al., 2008). The syndrome arises from the stress of the fear

Multiple Roles Of X Secondary School
Multiple Roles in X Secondary School
In order to accommodate diverse learning needs and promote inclusion in education, learning
support teacher may take on multiple roles in secondary school setting, apart from providing
support in planning and implementing the learning and teaching adaptations.
Case Manager
A learning support teacher may be a case manager who runs a learning support program or unit. A
case manager s primarily responsible is to promote and facilitate inclusion within the school. Case
managers should be responsible for managing verification processes of students with special needs
and developing and reviewing EAP (Educationally Adjusted Profiles). They need to collect and
monitor detailed information about the progress and academic and behavior difficulties of the
targeted students who may be referred by mainstream teachers and then create individual student
profiles so as to have a holistic picture of students academic achievement, personal development and
well being. Theses student data can lay a foundation for further designing and implementing and
reviewing an Individual Education Program (IEP), short term or long term intervention plan as well
as support programs tailored to the needs of the individuals to help students integrate in mainstream
class and engage in learning activities.
Also, by doing this, the clear and well resourced student profiles and record keeping can help to
make mainstream teachers informed of particular students problems

Critique Of The Christmas Angel
Fifty seven year old Landon Carter narrates the novel, reflecting on events from 40 years in the
past. In the prologue of this novel, in which the older Landon, living in the same North Carolina
town as he did when he was 17 years old, stands near the Baptist church that figures prominently
in the novel and gets himself in the mindset of his 17 year old self. The story begins in 1958 and
is, Landon tells us, both joyful and sad.
Seventeen year old Landon is a senior at Beaufort High School, which collaborates each year with
Southern Baptist Church on a Christmas play called The Christmas Angel, written by Reverend
Hegbert Sullivan, the minister of the church. This play tells the story of a man who is so grief
stricken over the death of his wife while giving birth to their only child that he is not much of a
father to his child. An angel appears to the man, and she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Landon reluctantly agrees. The two begin spending time together although Landon does so only
out of obligation but in the course of their conversations, Landon discovers that Jamie s only goal
in life is to get married with a church full of people in attendance, an unlikely occurrence given
Jamie s social status.
The play is a great success, and in a pivotal scene, in which the father is supposed to notice the
ravishing beauty of the angel, Landon is shocked by how beautiful Jamie looks in her white
dress; she is wearing a touch of makeup and has taken her long hair out of a bun and let it fall past
her shoulders. The other students in the school are as surprised by Jamie s appearance as Landon.
Jamie asks Landon to help her collect the bottles and cans she set out in a donation drive to buy
presents for the orphans. Astonished by the paltry donations, Landon empties his own bank account
and adds those funds to the collection without telling anyone what he has

Philosophers During The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment philosophers were some of the smartest thinkers who changed the way people
think during the 16th and 17th century. The philosophers changed the way we live and think today.
These discussions helped shape the capitalistic, democratic world in which we live in today. There
were numerous great philosophers during this time period that taught us many different methods of
teaching and understanding new observations.
John Locke was a philosopher who was born in England 1632. He lived in England during both
the English civil war and the Glorious Revolution. Locke believed that all men are naturally in a
state of perfect freedom within the bounds of law of nature. He believed that only the middle and
upper class should have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He adopted his pen name and became a profile writer, eventually composing poems, novels,
essays, plays , and over 20,000 personal letters. The right to religion was Voltaire s main idea
about religion in society. John Locke and Voltaire both had two very similar ideas about how
people have the right to choose what they want to do and that people are naturally free.
Adam Smith was born June, 1723 in a place called Kirkcaldy in The United Kingdom. Smith was a
supporter in economic decision making. He believed that individual work benefits themselves more
than a whole group would. He thinks that if everyone worked as an individual than the world would
be better. By pursuing his own interest he frequently promotes that of the society more than when
he really intends to promote it. Smith later died in on June, 19 1790 in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.
Mary Wollstonecraft was a British author who was born on April, 27 in a little town called
Spitalfield. Wollstonecraft was a novelist who wrote a history of the French Revolution, a travel
journal, and a children s book in addition to A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. She believes
that women are born with the same equal abilities as men. Her main idea is that all women should
have equal education. Wollstonecraft, Locke, Smith, And Voltaire all think that the main idea is
equality of the individuals. Make them free, and they will quickly become wise and

Adam Smith Wealth Of Nations
Born on June 16, 1723 in Kirkcaldy in the United Kingdom, Adam Smith revolutionized economics
and effectively founded modern economics with the concept of free market and GDP in his
magnum opus An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, as well as his
concept of the invisible hand, which regulates supply and demand naturally in an ideal free market.
He also had progressive views of human nature and how much involvement the government should
have in the market in his book The Theory of Moral Sentiments. He followed the theme of the
Enlightenment in proposing reason and critical thinking as the most important part in judgement
and was practical and rational in his theories about the tendencies of a free market and his theories
on sympathy and its effects on human behavior.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using reasoning and logical arguments characteristic of the Enlightenment, he shows that a free
market should be able to regulate itself with minimal government involvement. He says that
humanity s own self interest leads to an economy where everyone strives to produce goods and
services that result in maximum gain for themselves, meaning that they are producing things that
are most needed/useful in society, creating a self stabilizing economy the invisible hand concept.
This thesis is evident in his famous statement: It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the
brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest. We
address ourselves not to their humanity but to their self love, and never talk to them of our own
necessities, but of their advantages. In this quote, Adam Smith is explaining how people s desires
for self gain end up supporting a mutually beneficial free market economy where humanity s own
greed leads to public

Speech For Collapse
Speech for Collapse presentation
Jared Diamond described a lot of reasons why many civilizations such as Maya collapsed. In my
speech I included some facts from Collapse book by Jared Diamond.
A unique tradition was created by a society numbering barely 4,000 people, and sustained at its
peak for a few generations before abruptly disappearing. The U.S. southwestern societies operated
on a much smaller scale than did the Maya cities, with populations of thousands rather than
millions. As a result, Maya cities are far more extensive in area, have more lavish monuments and
art, were products of more steeply stratified societies headed by kings, and possessed writing.
In the Southwestern U.S. we are dealing with a whole series of cultures ... Show more content on

The increasing population and environmental problems caused civil unrest and warfare. One of the
signs of warfare was cannibalism.
Low rainfall could make rainfall fed dryland agriculture and irrigation impossible. A drought that
lasted more then three years would have been fatal, because modern Puebloans can store corn for
only 2 years after which it is too rotten or infested to eat.
During a drought in 1670s, many people starved to death, and some people killed each other.
Between 800 and 1350 the population decreased from 1070 to 400 people. Conclusion:
There were human environmental impacts of several types, especially deforestation and arroyo
cutting. In addition, there was climate change in rainfall and temperature that interacted with the
effects of human and environmental impacts. Anasazi groups supplied food, timber, stone, luxury
and other supporting each other in an interdependent complex society, but put the whole society at
risk of collapsing. There were also some other factors, such as political or religious factors that

The prices of commodity goods are going up and down. The reason of price fluctuation is changes
in supply or demand. Equilibrium in price find when supply and demand will intersect each other.
The change in one of them will cause price fluctuate. For instance the problem with supply may
cause poor harvest or loss in production. Change in demand can be caused by change in
technology, income or substitutes (Parkin 2010). Mostly in agricultural or commodity markets
there is large price fluctuation in price in very short time. This can give negative impact on

  • 2. For Gay Marriage Expository Writing Analyzing a Text #2 Molly O Brien In the Boston Globe newspaper editorial For Gay Marriage the editors argue that gay marriage should be legalized. Throughout the article the Globe Editors mention the expanding circle of rights, the circle includes the civil rights movement, gender equality, rights for the disabled, 18 year olds to vote, single mothers and adoptive parents. It is apparent that the right for gay marriage should occur ( Globe A18).These advances have occurred with the help of court cases. The 1967 supreme court case and Loving V. Virginia Court rulings ruled that the ban on interracial marriage was unconstitutional ( Globe A18). Along with the court precedents The Globe uses Hillary Goodridge as an example when she was unable to see her newly born daughter in the hospital because she was not married to her partner of 15 years. (A18). The Editors discuss opposing reasons why gay marriage should not be legalized by the Massachusetts Attorney General. One argument the attorney general makes is that marriage is, ...A social institution designed to promote child bearing and rearing (A18). The Globe the refutes this statement because same sex couples are not denied the right to adopt as well as they do the everyday things an opposite sex couple would do (A18). In the Boston Globe article editors use court precedents and emotional stories to argue that gay marriage should be legalized. One form of evidence the Globe uses to support that gay ... • 4. Symbolism In Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven The poem The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe can have many symbolic meanings. Really depending on what type of reader you are and how you interpret things has a big impact on the symbolic meanings. Per chapter 25 of the book How to Read Literature Like a Professor A lot of things in the world have more or less ready made associations. But it also says that there are layers of possible meanings so readers take what they can find and are prepared to deal with at the moment they are reading at. Using this information there isn t really a wrong way to look at the symbols in this poem, which are many. In this interpretation, I will talk about the five symbols that are repeated or made emphasis on in this poem. These symbols include; Lenore, the Raven, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As I mentioned before about how the book How to Read Literature Like a Professor mentions how we as readers begin to recognize symbols in literature, I think we also begin to make connections between some of the symbols too. Some symbols are a lot easier to recognize than others. Which is something else chapter 25 of How to Read Literature Like a Professor tells us. Darkness is definitely one of those symbols that represent almost always the same thing in every piece of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Huron Community Reflection I found a quote about three years ago on a wall at my camp that has stuck with me ever since. Each one of us can make a difference. Together we make change. The quote is by an American politician by the name Barbara Mikulski and although I do not know what her personal beliefs are, personally this is a mantra I aspire to live by. I want to make a difference in the world, and my first step out of high school on that path would be at the Centre for Global Studies at Huron University College. I believe that one of the things that makes Huron special is it s smaller size in comparison to many other universities. I spent my first three years of high school in a large school with classes with as many as 35 40 students. It was quite difficult for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am extremely passionate about social justice issues and love to find other like minded people who I can work with to raise awareness about issues that we are passionate about as. I have been working with an organization called Free the Children since I was eight years old: helping with the club at my school, attending We Day (a day of celebration in 3 5 major Canadian cities for students who have made both local and global change commitments) five years in a row initially as an attendee and then two times as a volunteer, and I also attended their social justice summer camp initially as a camper and then I was chosen as a LIT or leader in training which may open up the doors to be on summer staff there in the future. At this camp, I was invited to think critically about many social justice issues and I gained leadership skills that built on the leadership skills I had already developed through my five year experience as co captain of an elite soccer team. Coaches, camp counsellors and teachers have referred to me as a natural, quiet leader who always motivates those around her. I want to be that kind of leader at Huron and through example, provide a sense of dedication and commitment to creating a social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The White City By Erik Larson Erik Larson s literary nonfiction novel The Devil in the White City surrounds the events of the 1893 Columbian Exposition World s Fair in Chicago. Larson does a magnificent job intertwining the lives of two men who were changed by the events of the fair. Daniel H. Burnham, the brilliant architect behind the legendary 1893 World s Fair and Dr. H. H. Holmes, the cunning serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their death. The purpose of this review is not only to summarize Larson s fascinating and satisfying work which vividly portrays one of the last grand gasps of the nineteenth century, but to also evaluate his work as a writer while providing a critical analysis of his book. As stated The Devil in the White City is a novel based on true events which I personally found intriguing since the way Larson conveys his writing makes it seem almost fictional. Larson s novel focuses on two main characters Daniel H. Burnham and Dr. H. H. Holmes born Herman Webster Mudgett. Larson first introduces Burnham with the sentence He was sixty five years old and had become a large man. His hair had turned gray, his mustache nearly white, but his eyes were as blue as ever, bluer at this instant by proximity to the sea (p.3). While reading the book we discover that Burnham was the architect who got contracted to build the 1893 Chicago World s Fair with John Root. Unfortunately, we also discover that John Root dies before the fair even begins construction, leaving all of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Trunk Movement Analysis In relation to trunk movement and this week s forum, I chose to write about the sit up. The sit up is commonly implemented to tone and strengthen the abdominal muscles as an endurance training exercise. Within the exercise, you are strengthening the rectus abdominus along with engaging the internal and external obliques. Your rectus abdominis attaches to ribs 5 through 7 and starts at your pubic bone while stretching, in a straight line, upwards to your ribs. It is activated every time your ribs are brought towards your thighs. It is also accountable for guiding the tilt of your pelvis and the curvature of your lower spine. Your obliques, on the other hand, consist of the lateral abdominal muscles and promote flexion, rotation and bending of the spine Nevertheless, because of the sit ups wide range of motion, additional muscles (assisting muscles) consist of the rectus femoris, iliopsoas, sartorius, and tensor fasciae latae, and obliques.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Your iliopsoas is attached to your femur, crosses your hips, and attaches to the lower ribs. This muscle promotes flexing of the hip and spine rotation. Your sartorius runs diagonally across the front of your thigh and is a long, narrow muscle which assists with both bending of the hip and knee. Your tensor fascia latae is a thin muscle that runs from the pelvis to the tibia and assists with hip flexion as well as leg abduction. While both the primary and secondary muscles play a large role in the overall movement, it could not be performed properly without the stabilizing muscles. This muscle involves the tibialis anterior, which runs from the top of your shin bone down to your first metatarsal, (big toe) and helps you flex your ankle. As you come into a sitting position, slight tension is along the front of the legs. This is your tibialis anterior becoming engaged in order to keep your ankle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. 21 Day Challenge Research Paper The 21 day challenge was a great experience for me, and I think it overall made me a happier person. It was easiest for me to just set apart a time each night to journal about a positive experience, write down three things I am grateful for, and pray. For me writing three things I was grateful for each day was the aspect of this challenge that increased my happiness the most. It is easy for me to just think about all the negative aspects of my life and not really think about all the positives, so by writing them down each day it made me realize how much I have to be grateful for. I realized that most of the day I would focus on the bad things that happened, so it was nice to focus on all the good parts of my life. When I started the challenge,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the time there are million things going on, so a few minutes to not think about things like work and school was very relaxing or me. Overall I don t think praying made me much happier, but it did help me because it was a time to just be alone with my thoughts. Completing a random act of kindness each day was somewhat challenging at first because I would forget about doing it, and I would remember later at night and have to do something before going to bed. However later in the challenge I found it much easier to remember to complete these random acts of kindness. After completing these acts of kindness, I felt much happier because it is a good feeling knowing you have helped someone. I felt good knowing that I helped someone or made their day a little better. Overall, I think this challenge increased my level of happiness because it made me realize I have a lot to be thankful for, and there are many more positives in my life than what I realized. When I looked through my notebook consisting of the positive experiences and the 3 things I was grateful for it was very nice that instead of just remembering the bad things that happened those days I now can remember the good things. I have a lot more to be happy about than I thought I did going into this challenge. I now find myself realizing things that I am grateful for more often and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Characteristics Of Jay In The Great Gatsby My life has got to be like this, it s got to keep going up (Fitzgerald). It is this kind of attitude towards life that makes James Gatz great. He is a very motivated man who is always looking for ways to improve. From the time he was a boy in North Dakota, it was clear that James was going to be successful. When he ran away from home, it was the beginning of the ascent of his life. Gatsby is great because of his determination, independence, and imagination. When Gatsby meets Daisy, he is in love at first sight. Jay is in military training at Camp Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky when they first meet. Daisy comes from a very wealthy family, and had no idea that Gatsby is, in fact, very poor. This relationship would be acceptable for Daisy s family, and Gatsby knows that. This motivates him to live the kind of lifestyle that the reader sees when he first meets Gatsby. Jay is determined to have everything absolutely perfect, all for Daisy. • 10. The Works Of William Shakespeare And Sir Philip Sidney Edmund Spenser was a notorious English poet known for writing the long allegorical poem The Faerie Queen. Born into a family of very little wealth he was enrolled into the Merchant Taylors grammar school. He later went on to study at the University of Cambridge where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1573. The time he spent at Cambridge was undoubtly very crucial for the acquisition of his wide knowledge not only of the Latin and some of the Greek classics but also of the Italian, French, and English Literature of his own and earlier times. Without the Roman epic poet Virgil s Aeneid, the 15th century Italian Ludovico Ariosto s Orlando furioso, and, later, Torquato Tasso s Gerusalemme liberata (1581), Spenser could not have written his heroic, or epic, poem The Faerie Queene. The corpus of Spenser can be discussed in the context of the works of William Shakespeare and Sir Philip Sidney. The three share an influence in the same popular Renaissance literary genre, Pastoral, which can be depicted as an idealized vision of a simpler, rural life and a longing for a lost world of innocence. Much happened in the time of the Renaissance, including Reformation and an epidemic so it made sense to want to write about less complex ways of living as a way to escape reality. In The Faerie Queen, Spenser writes with the intent to show young men what better virtues to cultivate in their lives. He does an excellent job doing this by his use of symbolism and descriptive imagery. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Hypertension Is The Medical Term For Having High Blood... In this project Jose, Diana, Adrian and I were tasked with producing a menu for persons with hypertension and a nut allergy. Hypertension is the medical term for having high blood pressure. One of the main causes of hypertension is a poor diet. It is affected most commonly by high levels of sodium (Pg. 321). To combat high blood pressure, the DASH diet was developed. DASH stands for dietary approaches to stop hypertension. Foods that are recommended to eat while on the DASH diet are whole grains, fruits and vegetables, fat free or low fat dairy, lean meat, poultry, fish, nuts, seeds, beans, fats and oils, sweets, and sodium limited to under 2400 milligrams per day (Pg. 322). The only perceivable obstacle for the menu development was the recommendation for nuts. However, the nutrients provided through nuts can be found in other foods like fats and oils and various protein sources. The first item on the menu is a quinoa patty as an appetizer. The dish contains quinoa, carrot, celery, onion, egg, olive oil, peppers, and a dash of salt. We chose this as our appetizer because it appears to follow the DASH diet quite well. Quinoa is a whole grain; carrots, celery, onions, and peppers represent the fruits and vegetables category; the egg is not a low fat dairy product, but the amount of egg in the recipe is very minimal; olive oil is a fat and oil, and the quinoa patties are lightly salted in an attempt to keep flavor yet stay under the recommended daily limit. • 12. Historical Context Of Babylon Revisited Knowing the historical context of a work is crucial to understanding both its general meaning and its deeper essence. Often times, authors use their works as outlets to freely express their personal feelings toward a social trend or issue. As such, the time in which a story is written can have a strong influence on the message the author is trying to convey to his or her reader. Their personal reflections can be asserted in many ways; among the most common being through the characters themselves and their development throughout the work, the setting, and the implied themes. An example of a work that is heavily influenced by the time period in which it was written is F. Scott Fitzgerald s short story Babylon Revisited. Set in Paris during the 1920s, this work delineates the story of a man named Charlie Wales who was at the pinnacle of his life when he succumbed to greed, irresponsibility, and addiction. As a result of his carelessness, Wales experiences a tragic downfall. He not only endures the death of his wife Helen, but he also loses his material fortune, his reputation, and most importantly the custody of his daughter Honoria. The time in which this story occurs the 1920s is vital to the plot. Dubbed The Roaring 20s, this period is notorious for glamorizing lifestyles centered around materialism, gluttony, and self absorption. The early 20th century brought about extreme social and political changes that influenced the lifestyles and attitudes of the public. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Examples Of Existentialism In The Prussian Officer The great works of literature that dominated the twentieth century, were largely influenced by and representative of the pivotal movements, philosophers, and scientists of the era. The Prussian Officer is primarily reliant on both Existentialist philosophy, as well as Freudian thought. Both serve to explore the psychological entities of the Captain and the orderly, and how their simultaneous awakenings led to their mutual destruction. The core of Existentialismis within the feelings of angst and desperation a person feels when realizing and beginning to understand the absurdity of the world, and how he attempts to overcome it. The orderly originally exemplifies this ideal, he is grounded and is not generally swayed by the contempt and externalized frustration of the Officer. As the plot progresses, however, he gradually becomes more and more distanced from himself, as a fierce battle insinuated by the Officer between his conscious and subconscious lead to the deterioration of the orderly s identity, as well as his sanity. On the surface, his conscious attempts to do what it has always done follow the orders of the Officer without the need for justification. Below the surface, however, his subconscious grows irritated and perplexed by the Officer s fierce disdain. Readers experience a paradigm shift within the context of the narrative. The once unperturbed temperament of the orderly begins to decay, his contemptuousness towards his oppressor simmering and finally erupting in a spontaneous and volatile act of violence, in which he murders the Officer, and eventually dies himself, in a fatal daze of physical thirst and ... • 14. Employee Teacher Reflection Portfolio It has now come to my understanding that as a trainee teacher, it is vital that I become a reflective practitioner when fostering the role of a teacher. In support of this, Tripp (2012, p.12) adds that being reflective is an essential part of the development of professional judgement . He continues to state that one must be able to examine and critique their teaching to build on their own professional values and ideas. It is through this theory that as a trainee teacher, I must be able to examine my own critical incident from my school based training placement (SBT1). I will be employing Tripp s four approaches of analysis Thinking Strategies, The Why? Challenge, Dilemma Identification and Personal Theory Analysis (Tripp, 2012, pp. 43 54). However, before I start my analysis, it is important to identify what a critical incident is. Tripp (2012) states that critical incidents are shaped by the way we look at a situation. He further adds that a critical incident is an interpretation of the significance of an event (p. 8). The context of my incident took place in a year four class within the Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It consisted of me teaching a whole class Literacy lesson where the majority of the pupils were considered or categorised as having English as an additional language. • 15. Female Selective Abortion And Infanticide There is a crisis in Asia, a problem centuries old and still happening. This problem is missing girls, but not in a traditional sense. These girls either never make it into the world or live horrible short lives before dying at the hands of their parents. This problem is female selective abortion and infanticide. This problem has taken roots in the two largest countries on earth population wise, India and China. Many solutions to the problem have been posed over the years and a few of them might work. India is one of the worst countries to live in as a woman. It is one of the strongest male dominated societies. They rely on the patriarchy to support their way of life and rural women internalize their roles from birth and fear having a daughter. There are many causes of infanticide in India, the three main causes are social, economic, and historical. The social causes range from family pressure for a male offspring to the stigma against females in general. It is seen in all of the castes and in urban as well as rural regions. On average female children are neglected more than their male counterparts. For example 71% of female toddlers are malnourished compared to 28% of males. Also males go to the hospital twice as often as females ( Female Infanticide in India and China). A male infant will be taken to the hospital for even just a cough, whereas a female will be left untreated with diseases such as pneumonia and tuberculosis for the reason that women are expendable in ... The network wireless system should be upgraded to Wi Fi Protected Access2, WPA2, from WEP. WPA2 provides the most secure protocol that is available on a wireless network. WPA2 uses Advanced Encryption Standard to encrypt all the data when the data is in motion. AES encryption takes a hacker months, even years to break. If the company wants customers to have free Wi Fi then have two separate networks in which one is has a network password and other just requires a login with terms and conditions. For the wired/wireless connections, TJX can institute a virtual private network, or VPN, to connect with the servers that have sensitive information. This allows the connection between the servers and device to be secure but the data is not. VPN does have limitation such as devices, but is an alternative to WPA2 and better than WEP. VPN is ideal for documents such as sales reports, inventory, and strategies. • 28. Analysis Of The Film The Flies By F. Scott Fitzgerald Artistically speaking, this film is beautiful. There was a lot of thought put into every detail from the actors to the camera shots. The film seems to flow in beautiful manner from one scene to the next. One piece of art in the film is the use of symbols. Each symbol is delicately placed in order to make sense to any viewers that can pick up on them. One symbol is Nick s obsession with his Peace Lily. It represents his obsession with the job. It is the only other thing he cares for because its needs are simple and by the books. When he breaks it, it is supposed to symbolize his change of heart; that somebody has taken the place of the lily. Another symbol in the filmis the number 3. This could be in reference to fairytales always using the number 3, since this plot seems far fetched like a fairytale. However, it could also be in reference to the trilogy of films that Wright and Pegg made together. Then, there is the swan symbol. Swans typically symbolize grace, beauty, and peace. Bizzozero Staining Procedure An experiment Evaluating whether PCNA supports the classification of Bizzozero (1894) tissues tissues placed in three categories, reflecting their replicative potential. Introduction The aim of this experiment was to utilise PCNA and staining procedures to determine whether different tissue cell samples proliferate. Tissue which exhibited brown stains prove cell proliferation and mitotic divisions, this would suggest it being the in the first group of Bizzozero s grouping of tissue types. Tissue samples which showed no brown staining meant no cells had proliferated and therefore were of a different tissue type that do not regenerate while present in the body. The PCNA proteinis present during cell division/mitosis therefore, its presence suggests that cell proliferation is occurring or has occurred. Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan, Ted Brader, states in his article published in Journal of Political Science that while rational appeals rely on the relay of information so the audience can make utilitarian decisions, emotional appeals motivate responses by making the audience feel a certain way. This paper sets out to establish what has been understood regarding emotional appeals, and to critically evaluate what has been proposed surrounding their use. National Research Council in Italy member, Miceli, and university professors Rosis and Poggi, argue in their paper for Applied Artificial Intelligence that messages which appeal to emotions are not always irrational, while Panda, Mishra, and Brader propose that irrational behaviour is best encouraged through emotional appeals. Panda, Professor of Marketing, and Mishra, Doctoral Scholar at Ravenshaw University, find in their contribution to The IUP Journal of Brand Management that companies whose advertisements created emotional links with their audience through colour, music, and tonalities were far more successful in garnering an audience willing to pay high premiums than those whose advertisements focused on information, formatting rational appeals. Their research also shows that affective buying behaviour (behavioural response to an affective advertising appeal) is not only less stressful for consumers, but also that consumers required less information about their product before they buy it. Panda and Mishra s work demonstrates that emotion has the potential to override the need for information and rational decision making because when exposed to an affect laden advertising appeal, ...
