various airports that I had never set foot in. Once we got to Gulu after eight hours of travel by

The use of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) has been exposed for a while in the world of
professional sports. Media and sports fans, myself included, look unfavorably on the use of
PEDs by professional athletes, the reasons why it s viewed as unfavorable can be attributed to
the theory of symbolic interactionism. Even though there is a large stigma against the use of
PEDs the testing process has largely remained inefficient and not reliable. Performance enhancing
drugs should have a more rigorous screening process because when they are present there is a
higher risk of injury, a false sense of talent which leads to unhappy fans, and an influence on
younger athletes wanting to be like their idol. Steroid use is ever present in the world of
professional sportsand is making its way down to the collegiate and high school levels. A large
reason that PED use in professional sports is because the testing process is so poor. Many
athletes, including boxing megastar Mike Tyson, have come forward after their career on their use
of PED and even other drugs. Mike admitted to using urine other than his own to pass the tests.
However the existing testing program may have put too much emphasis on quantity and may have
neglected quality. The above mentioned 1.76% of findings is in contrast to widespread belief that

health of their unborn child with a birth defect. The testing will also detect harm to the unborn
fetus if the mother was exposed to a disease or sickness. There are multiple levels of screening
and testing that can be done to provide to give results to an unborn child. The screenings are safe
non invasive procedures that will detect particular birth defects.1 The types of screenings that can
be provided are ultrasound, and blood test.
Ultrasound screening uses sound waves to create an image of the fetus in the uterus. The test will
determined the size and the position of the fetus as well as any abnormalities with the bones or
organs of the unborn fetus. 2 There are many types of ultrasounds and at different levels they
will reveal more in depth issues or abnormalities. The first type being nuchal translucency
ultrasound; this type of ultrasound is done at 11 weeks 2 day to 14 weeks and 2 days. This
ultrasound measures fluid at the back of the babies neck allowing detection of Down syndrome
and major heart defects. The second type of ultrasound available is fetal anatomy survey or a level
1 ultrasound. This ultrasound will show how far along the pregnancy is. This is done between 17 to
20 weeks and allowing a head to toe scan to detect birth defects. If the level 1 scan is deemed to be
abnormal a level 2 ultrasound will be preformed to detect harder to find defects.
