Essay On Evolution
Crafting an essay on the subject of evolution is a challenging endeavor that demands a thorough
understanding of biological principles, historical contexts, and the intricacies of scientific
research. Delving into the complexities of evolution requires not only a solid grasp of the theory
itself but also the ability to synthesize information from various scientific disciplines. Navigating
through the vast expanse of evolutionary biology, anthropology, and paleontology involves
sifting through a multitude of theories, evidence, and counterarguments.
The intricacy of the topic adds an extra layer of difficulty to the writing process. Evolutionary
biology spans millions of years, encompassing diverse species and ecosystems, making it a
daunting task to condense such expansive information into a coherent and concise essay.
Striking the right balance between providing comprehensive coverage and maintaining clarity for
the reader is a constant challenge.
Furthermore, addressing the social and philosophical implications of evolution adds another layer
of complexity. The topic often involves discussions on religion, ethics, and societal perspectives,
requiring a nuanced approach to avoid oversimplification or controversy. Balancing scientific
rigor with accessible language becomes essential to communicate the depth of the subject
without alienating the reader.
Researching for such an essay demands a meticulous examination of scholarly articles, scientific
journals, and historical documents. The ever-evolving nature of scientific knowledge in this field
means staying abreast of the latest research findings, which can be a daunting task.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on evolution requires a multifaceted approach, combining
scientific acumen, analytical skills, and effective communication. It is a journey through the
annals of time and the intricacies of life's development, necessitating a commitment to
comprehensive research and the ability to synthesize information from various disciplines. For
those seeking assistance with essays or similar projects, various resources are available, including

Euthyphro, By Plato The Main Idea That Comes Up Is...

PHIL 3500
Chrisoula Andreou In Euthyphro, by Plato the main idea that comes up is socratic
ignorance. Euthyphro argues that he is the self proclaimed expert on the subject of
piety and impiety. I could argue in the position that, Euthyphro is claiming expertise
in a subject that he doesn t know enough about. This socratic ignorance is the idea of
the dialogue. I have decided to take an extra argument in this paper. I argue there is
ignorance in both Socrates and Euthyphro. Although it s more difficult to prove, I
explain the situations of piety and impiety and how it is relative to each person and
the time period of the discussion. Bringing the background situation to show claims
made by Euthyphro and lack of evidence provided in this dialogue. The supporting
claims I share after are on Euthyphro s side of conversation. This determines his
thoughts, on the definition of piety and unspoken details that I have determined.
Socrates also makes arguments that are known to be true, to Euthyphro through
comparison of different circumstances. This happens through Socrates and
Euthyphro, use of asking questions and questing answer, from what explained, based
on the knowledge of Euthyphro. I use the background of the whole dialogue, in
pointing out flaws in the responses of both parties. I also bring into aspect of the
circumstance relative to the time period, and the nature of people s beliefs, in
religion. The background of the dialogue the important to the
What Are The Mummies Of Ancient Culture
Mummies of ancient cultures: facts before fiction For centuries, people have been
fascinated with death. Many questions are asked about what happens after we die,
and these questions may forever remain unanswered. As well as beliefs, everyone
has an idea of what they wat to happen to them after that die. You may want to be
cremated and have your ashes spread across an open meadow, or you may just want
to be put in a coffin, and laid into the ground. As it was hundreds of years ago with
different beliefs, it is the same today. Different religions, different Gods, and different
ways of thinking. But how exactly are they different? When people think of ancient
burial, they think back to ancient Egyptians. And what is the reason they are

In the Mayan culture, one would often be buried beneath their own house! The rest of
the family would then abandon the house so they would not disturb the dead. Much
mourning was held for those who had passed. China and ancient Egypt are quite
similar! The Chinese would have their favorite foods buried with them, so they
could accompany the soul in the afterlife. (Bradley) Artifacts that belonged to the
deceased would also be buried with them. But the Chinese practiced one ritual that
many other ancient cultures did not: servants and concubines be buried with the
body. Even if they were alive when the deceased had died. It was a way of claiming
property. The Chinese would bury the dead in bronze vessels. Egyptians were buried
underground and, famously, the great pyramids of Egypt. But this was mainly for the
fabulously wealthy. For the more common of the Egyptians, however, a grave was
usually the final resting place. (Mark, Burial ) The Romans practiced burying the
dead during the night as to not disturb the activities of the normal city life. The
tradition they used, was that they buried the body on the outside of the city walls in
order to maintain the boundary between the living and the dead. Even when
cremation was used, the ashes could not be buried within the city. The ashes either
gathered into an urn, or interred in a tomb. Romans thought that funerary practices
were so important, that they paid money monthly to make sure their funeral rites
would be performed in accordance with tradition, and their status in the community.

Modern Definition of Rule of Law
Introduction to the Rule of Law amp; the modern definition. Rule of Law in the
layman perspective is the principle that nobody is above the law and that every
man s act is subject to the law. The law referred, in our context, is the Malaysian
Constitution which embodies the definition, expressly in many of its provisions.
The constitution has the absolute power as against the arbitrariness and
discretionary power of the government. This concept is commonly practiced in
democratic countries. Rule of Law and Rule by Law should be distinguished as the
latter is merely a government s tool for the purpose of ruling and governing only. It is
not a good approach as compared to the Rule of Law because law is made by the
people, for the people.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By Article 149, it permits the suspension of the Fundamental Liberties, since it
validates any legislation otherwise outside the legislative power of Parliament. The
Proclamation of Emergency provided in Article 150 permits Parliament and YdPA
to override all provisions of the Constitution. This is not to say rule of law is not
stable, but that the regular law operates alongside a system of emergency law
which is much more draconian. An example is the powers of preventive detention,
or International Security Act, which will be discussed further. Constitutionalism
Crisis: International Security Act The International Security Act or more
commonly known as ISA is an old and inhumane law which is against with the
principle of Rule of Law. ISA is a cruel and harsh law and has always been an issue
which has yet to be solved in satisfaction. Proposals for the ISA to be reviewed and
subsequently, be abolished has been made since Tun Mahathir and Tun Abdullah
Ahmad Badawi s times as Prime Minister, and once again, now made by our
present Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak. It has been 50 years since the
ISA came into force but the government has still yet to take any actions in viewing
this problem. The ISA made it seems as though the Rule of Law does not exist in
Malaysia or less effective. The ISA is a preventive detention law that allows the

The Consequences Of Fairy Stories
Happily Ever After, the three words are so characteristic of a fairy tale. But do
fairy tales need to have a happily ever after? The factual answer would be No.
Some of the original versions of the adapted screenplays didn t have happy endings.
In Charles Perrault s version Little Red Riding Hood1, the wolf ate the grandmother
and Little Red, thus leaving us with no happy ending. But fairy tales aren t based on
facts and logic. They are the creation of our imagination and (some) a result of our
perversions.
In Brothers Grimm though, Little Red Cap2, the story has two different endings,
both of them happy. The wolf is skinned by the Huntsman in the first one and in the
second one, little red is less naГЇve, doesn t wander from her ... Show more content

The slightest reference to an adult theme makes the rating PG 13 or higher, thereby
making it impossible to market to children. Thus, most of the adaptations have
reimagined the storyline to make it more suitable for younglings.
But not all of them are marketed towards children, for instance, In the TV series,
Once Upon a Time, the wolf turns out to be Red herself; who kills her beloved as
well as most of the village when she takes off her red cloak which being infused
with magic prevents her from transforming. This does have some grotesque scenes
but the theme of happily ever after does persist.
Our society has changed drastically, from the 17th and 18th century, when these
grotesque versions were classified as fairy tales. The censor board brought into being
in the beginning of the 20th century, played a huge role in determining what was age
appropriate and

writers alike had guidelines for their content, according to their consumer base.

phrase happily ever after was simply the means to convey the end of the story just

Radar The Proliferation Of Location Based Services Essay
Abstract The proliferation of Location Based Services
(LBSs) and Geo Social Networks (GSNs) significantly increase the exposure risks
of location information leading to leakage of sensitive information. Location
privacy preserving methods are designed to provide a specified level of privacy
based on some pre defined privacy guarantees such as k anonymity and e
differential privacy. In certain situations, we note that users would need different
privacy protection levels based on their relationships and trust associated with the
users of the exposed location data. For instance, users of a location based social
network may need a smaller privacy protection level in interaction with their close
friends and a larger privacy protection level in relationship with public users. In this
paper, we present a privacy aware access control model that provides different
location privacy protection levels based on various access control list of users. The
proposed privacy preserving access control model not only preserves the
confidentiality of access control policy but also provides an efficient mechanism for
grant and revoke of authorizations.

A Comparison OfThe Electric Koolaid Acid Test By Leslie...
For my IOP I will be comparing the novels The Electric Koolaid Acid Test by Tom
Wolfe and Ceremony by Leslie Silko. In this comparison I will be analyzing how
these author s writing styles portray the character development in Silko s main
character Tayo, and the minor characters which Wolfe documented. In both pieces,
the reader can see that the characters are presented either internal or external
conflicts, and sometimes both, that shape their realities as well as affect the decisions
they make. In order to convey this characterprogression, both Silko and Wolfe
illustrate the ways that their characters gain their acceptance of their social standings
in society, and more importantly in themselves and what they believe, through the
use of fragmented writingstyles as well as the inclusion of flashbacks and poems.
Before I analyze these author s writing styles, I want to point out the different
obstacles that these characters are facing.
In The Electric Koolaid Acid Test the Pranksters are subjected to society s
judgement as they try to achieve their goal of challenging societal norms through the
use of taking drugs as an act of defiance to these standards. [change slide] The
conformity that they are fighting is the influences that are supposedly forced upon
the young because, as Wolfe writes, [change slide] their doors of perception have not
yet been closed. This means that the world that the Pranksters perceive to be true,

the song in 1970 and was nominated for a Grammy for her rendition of the song.
Gaye s version of Ain t No Mountain High Enough, has a duration of 2:31 and has
BPM of 130. This may sound like a low BPM; however, think about one of today s
celebrities and the low BPM s of songs. Just for comparing purposes, Adele s hit
record Water Under the Bridge only has a BPM of 95. So Gaye s song is pretty fast
compared to some of Adele s music. The instruments used in Ain t No Mountain High
Enough were the piano and the guitar. The original version was published in the key
of B minor.
The lyrics to Ain t No Mountain High Enough are very easy to understand. Songs
from the past, especially R B/Soul songs, had a very smooth way of bluntly getting
the point across without all the puns or slang of today s music. The song is
performed which such a classic touch of R B and soul. Some say you can really
feel the beauty of a song; R B/Soul is said to be addictive. After one listen of Ain t
No Mountain High Enough, you really crave more R B/Soul Music. However,
some people who are sticklers for grammar may be upset when they hear the double
contraction used in the song. Aint No... is used in the song multiple times and could
be cringe worthy to listeners who do not appreciate a double contraction. Personally,
I believe the lyric Ain t No adds that extra bit of flair needed in the song.

Conservatism Ideology
i)Conservatism as an Ideology
Conservatism is an ideology that strongly values tradition and continues to utilise
the policies put in place by our ancestors before us. Because tradition is fundamental
to conservatives they are very susceptible to change their policies: change will only
be supported if it does no harm and if this can be clearly demonstrated (Young, 2015).
Conservatism itself is a pragmatic ideology with no real goals or purpose other than
to preserve the traditions put in by the generations previous to us.

What is meant by this quote is that we can reflect on our past, but not dedicate our
lives to recreating history in order to pay our ancestors back for all they have done
for us: the conservative... does suppose we owe such a debt (Alexander, 2014).
Human nature from both socialism and conservatism can relate to the quote.
Socialism reflects back on previous points in time so they can interpret and
understand the way of thinking by political thinkers and policy makers at the time,
but doesn t feel they need to incorporate the traditions of political movements to
create social continuity. Conservatives look back on political movements and points
of time in history and examines the political processes involved in certain
situations. As a sign of respect to their ancestors and a way to pay back the debt to
them; they introduce and incorporate the traditions and political ideas into modern
day society as they believe it is what is necessary to pay them
James Stevens Equality
The struggle between different social classes and the move toward equality is what
has marked the history of the world, especially over the past few hundred years.
Karl Marx s philosophy was that history is the narrative of class struggle during
which the poor seek to overthrow the nobility. Class distinction is very prevalent in
The Remains of the Day. The novel is about the lives of the serving class in relation
to those whom they serve. In The Remains of the Day, James Stevens identity is
consumed by his profession, resulting in him losing the chance to lead a normal life
in which he could find contentment in himself and his relationships rather than his
work.

All the things that he values are tied to his profession. He values the quality of the
work that he does and takes pride in accomplishing the tasks of his profession with
a high degree of effectiveness. This is shown in the episode where he kept on
working after his father s death, refusing to go up and see him, initially. The fact
that he didn t allow personal affairs to get in the way of his work is a point of great
pride for him and he counts that night as one of the triumphs of his career as a butler.
This shows that he has been so conditioned to put his occupation above everything,
how it has become his life and identity, and that his sense of identity is tied to his
work. One of the pursuits of Stevens life is to show dignity. In his opinion, it is the
quality that all butlers must show in order to be great. This is what motivates him
to devote his life to being a butler. Stevens spends several pages musing on the
criteria that should be met in order for a butler to be considered great, and this
shows how his thinking is bent toward this. The dignity that he shows in various
instances of his career are points of pride for him and define who he is as a person.
He reflects that, I should cease looking back so much...I should adopt a more
positive outlook and try to make the best of what remains of my day (244). Stevens
questions the meaning of his life, as it had always been defined by his professional
role as a servant. He comes to the realization that the way in which he found value in
only his work is shallow, and he resolves to change his mind set so that he will find
contentedness not only in his profession, but in his relationships with other
Miracles and Christianity Essays
Miracles and Christianity
In society today, the word miracle is commonly used to describe unexpected and
surprising events: it was a miracle that I passed the exam, however, when it is used
in a religious sense, it generally has the extra meaning of being an act of god . In the
Bible, one can find many examples of miracles, but the central miraculous event is
the claim that Jesus rose from the dead after his crucifixion, this was easier to accept
as the truth in the past, but now modern science and medical advances prove that
dead people do not rise again, they can be resuscitated at the point of near death, but

Atheists have the same way of thinking except that instead of looking for what had
not been explained (to find a place for God) they look for what had been explained
(to try and push out God). Professor Charles Coulson was such a thinker:
When we come to the scientifically
unknown, our correct policy is not to
rejoice because we have found God; it
is to become better Scientists.
The most significant rebuff to belief in miracles came from David Hume. Hume
dedicated much of his work to the understanding of miracles, Hume believed, and
showed that Miracles were, relatively a logical impossibility. Hume also said that
because miracles are scientifically impossible, then it is impossible to believe anyone
who claims to have witnessed such an extraordinary event, he then made an
additional four points.
1) In all History there are not a sufficient number of people who have witnessed a
miracle who have good sense, education and learning to confidently say that these so
called miracles were not delusions within themselves. In other words people who
believe in miracles are superstitious not scientific.
2) People believe in Miracles because they want to believe in Miracles.
3) Belief in miracles results from ignorance about how the world actually works.
4) All Gods cannot be the true God therefore

Depression affects many people around the world. Depression can be described as
feeling sad, lost, angry, and frustrated. Today, antidepressants are the main way to
treat depression. Researchers are working on a new treatment to better help people
with depression. This treatment is called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).
Researchers want to know how TMS can be used, and what type of depression
patients they want to use it on. Studies have helped narrow down the facts of
depression and the effect of TMS. The future of TMS is still unclear but one day it
will provide a new era of treatment for depression.
According to the center for disease control , one in ten adults has depression (Centers

Although this study did not give out great data it did help pave the way for other
experiments. This experiment helped Janicak and his team design a study using
the durability of TMS. Philip Janicak and his team tested the durability of TMS on
patients with major depression. They found that the majority of patients benefited
from active TMS over a 24 week period. Only 10% of that group relapsed. Whereas
13.6% relapsed for the sham group (Janicak, Nahas, Lisanby, Solvason, Sampson
amp; McDonald, 2010). Janicak concluded that the effects of TMS were durable.
He also concluded that TMS may be successfully used as a strategy to deter further
relapse. One major imitation to this study was the lack of controlled comparison. It
is hard to determine if a study supported if there is not enough to base the results on.
Later studies focused more on where in the brain depression effected. Researchers
wanted to see the effect TMS has on patients with depression. These studies tested
the durability and the overall effects of TMS on specific lobes of the brain. One
study that wanted to test the effect of TMS was done by Yechiel Levkovits and his
team. They wanted to focus the effect of TMS on the prefrontal cortex in patients
with depression and apathy. Levkovits found that TMS over the prefrontal cortex
improved both apathy and depression but this did not lead to remission (Levkovitz,

Frankly, my family always encouraged me to become a doctor at the hospital, so I
grew up having the dream of joining the Medicine School to fulfill my family s
ambition which I thought it was mine too. In grade 10, I was studying at night and
suddenly the electricity went off and that made me think what if I am a doctor doing
a life and death surgery for a patient and the power goes out. I thought about energy
recourses and other medical equipment the doctors use, who made them? I started
thinking that I can provide more services than doctors do. I can design and produce
items that all use and provide reliable and sustainable energy for us all. From that
night, I decided to study an engineering related discipline, and upon completing high
school and after consulting a Mechanical Engineering graduate who explicitly
explained to me what mechanical Engineering is all about, I found that Mechanical
Engineering is the best choice among the engineering fields.
During my undergraduate studies, I had the ambition of contributing to solve some of
the major problems in the world. Indubitably, the world we live in is facing so many
challenges and problems concerning energy crisis and climate change. Recently,

Tully s company overall has a great relationship within its four walls. Each department
has a relationship with the next because often there are many people that wear many
different hats, meaning they work in multiple offices. This is done on purpose so that
each department talks to each other. So for the marketing department and sale
department this is no different. Within these two departments they work closely
together on creating relationships with customers here in the U.S. and overseas. Part
of the Tully s brand is that they help aid communities that they operate in and this is
part of their missions and vision so this turns into a sale pitch to the public. They use
community aid to sales their product just as much as they love doing the work that
shows their care of the world around them. Working together in this visions helps each
department individually and together build a strong brand name. The sales team in

The Cultural and Political Life of Saudi Arabia Essay
Crimes punishable by the death sentence in Saudi Arabia include murder, serious
attacks on the Islam religion, adultery, dress codes, and since 1987, drug smuggling.
Under Saudi Arabian law, serious crimes merit serious consequences. Repeated theft
is punishable by amputation of the right hand, administered under anesthetic. Because
most meals in Saudi Arabiaare eaten by hand from a communal bowl and only the
right hand may touch the food, this punishment effectively bans the convicted thief
from society. The severity of this punishment has led to a slight softening of the law
in recent years; now if the thief repents and makes restitution before the case is
brought before a judge, the punishment can be reduced... furthermore, the victim...

First time offenders face some combination of prison terms, floggings, and fines:
those convicted a second time face execution. Within two years, this ruling, coupled
with a new antidrug campaign, resulted in a sixty percent drop in drug addiction and
twenty six percent reductions in drug use. Saudi officials now claim that the
kingdom has the lowest rate of drug addiction in the world, which they attributed to
harsh punishment and the religious convictions of ordinary Saudis. (Aburish, The
House of Saud, 1994) In the United States those who are convicted of drug

prison time to face but there is no execution punishment for drug smuggling.

My (black) Caribbean students, as a whole, tend to perform much better than my

that blacks are naturally inferior to whites, however, American blacks are the
unfortunate end product of an enforced breeding process that has left them at a
mental disadvantage.

These days, a college degree serves as one of the few tickets into a socially and
economically comfortable lifestyle. College itself, ideally, should vastly increase the
knowledge, skills, and capacity for critical thinking in its students. However, in this
racially imbalanced society, college is the culmination of a white weighted education,
and often ignores its own participation in long standing racial injustices and
inequities. Minority students are expected to jump headlong into white standards of
behavior, without regard for the unique circumstances that render that expectation
difficult, if not impossible, to meet.
My schooling gave me no training in seeing myself as an oppressor, as an unfairly

My schooling followed the pattern my colleague Elizabeth Minnich has pointed out:
whites are taught to think of their lives as morally neutral, normative, and average,
and also ideal, so that when we work to benefit others, this is seen as work

University...
The idea of Gatorade was first created by the University of Florida assistant football
coach when he was curious as to why many of his players were affected by the heat
and contracted heat related illnesses. He worked together with a group of
physicians from the university and discovered two factors as to why the players
were feeling like this during practices and games. They found that the fluids and
electrolytes the players lost through sweat were not being replaced and the amounts
of carbs in the players bodies used for energy were not being replenished. They then
went to the lab and came up with a balanced carbohydrate electrolyte beverage called
Gatoradethat would replace the key components lost during sweating and exercising
(Figure 1).
The next step was to introduce the product to the team. That season the Gators
started to win and finished the season 7 4. The following season, they finished 9 2
and ended up winning the Orange Bowl, their first in school history (Figure 1).
Other schools and universities started to hear about Gatorade, and both University
of Richmond and Miami University of Ohio were the first to order batches of
Gatorade. Soon the trend picked up and it started to become unusual to not see
Gatorade on the sidelines of college football games. Today, Gatorade is the official
sports drink for more than 70 Division I men s and women s collegiate teams. After
winning the Orange Bowl, head coach of the Gators suggested to the Kansas City

Dynamic Characters In To Kill A Mockingbird

Jem Atticus Finch is the perfect example of a dynamic character in Harper Lee s
novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Due to a series of life changing events, Jem undergoes
a transformation involving maturity and brave actions.
Throughout the novel, Jem is extremely brave. For example, as Scout, the younger
sister of Jem, stated, In all his life, Jem has never declined a dare (Lee 13).Bravery is
a very important trait to Jem because he does not want to show any signs of
weakness. In order to prove his bravery, Jem accomplishes several dares. For

what he believes her to be implying, strikes her and calls her a devil. Then, in her

she must have done something wrong for him to treat her so. This reaction lines up
strongly with the reaction of abuse victims to inter partner violence. It s common
for them to blame themselves for their spouses destructive behavior, even when it s

that Othello feels he has to assert over Desdemona escalates to the point that he

Ecocritical Analysis Of Nehru
Abstract: The main objective of this study is to attempt an ecocritical analysis of
Jawaharlal Nehru s Glimpses of World History. Jawaharlal Nehru (1889 1964) is one
of the greatest statesmen and writers of the twentieth century. He has written a
number of books of which Glimpses of World History is an outstanding contribution
to Indian Literature in English. His letters to his daughter clearly reveal Nehru s
interest on ecocritical tropes and his ecological sensibility. As a lover of nature, he
imparts this characteristic to his daughter, Indira Gandhi too. Ecocriticism has gained
the attention of many scholars over the last three decades throughout the world. It
depicts the relationship between human and nature depiction of nature in literature.
This theory has been gaining popularity day by day because of the ecological
disaster which the humans witness in everyday life. This study analyses the letters
of Nehru from an ecocritical point of view by using various ecocritical tropes like

Abraham Lincoln Thesis
Abraham Lincoln
This is the story of a man named Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was the 16th
president of the United States. There are many things that Abraham has done, but
the biggest thing he ever did was free the slaves. He saw the slaves and felt that it
was very wrong to own people. The southern states despised the idea of freeing the
slaves, so the Civil War started. The northern side won, thus, Abraham Lincolnfreed
the blacks from slavery.
Abraham Lincoln can be important just for the fact that he was our president at one
point. However, that doesn t even come close to the main reasons he is important.
Without Abraham Lincoln, we would have never freed the slaves and we would still
be owning people. If we didn t have Abraham Lincoln,

The Portrayal Of Capitalism Through The Market Revolution The Market Revolution
can be described as an early manifestation of capitalism, an era associated with a new
sense of individual rights, equality, and freedom. The Market Revolution took place
in the early 19th century, and it drastically changed not only the market and
commerce of Americans but their personal lives as well. Before the Market
Revolution America hadn t seen any new life changing innovations, most of their
goods, such as clothing and farming tools, were still being made from home, and
trade was limited by poor roads and little means of transportation. In addition, the poor
road system meant that there was little interaction and movement between each state.
It wasn t till the creation of new ways of communicating, steamboats, and the building
of canals, railroads, and turnpikes that prompted American expansion. As a result, the
United States began to see a movement of settlements westward and the rise cities.
The Embargo of 1807 and the War of 1812, led to the cutoff of British imports and
the need to establish the first large scale factories; the rise of factories then led to
new employment and a boom in domestic manufacturing (Foner 331). The changes
led by the advances in the society of the Market Revolution evidently gave women
the opportunity to gain a level of equality in both domestic and work environments, it
also gave Americans the

Hadrian s Wall
Hadrian s Wall
Although Rome has built numerous important defensive walls, Hadrian s Wall was
the most famous defensive barrier in the Roman Empire, and essential in protection
of the northwestern section of the empire. It was a, frontier developed to a higher
level of defensive efficiency than any other in the history of Rome (Divine, pp. 5).
However, the Wall of Hadrian wasn t only the most important wall in the Roman
Empire. Because of the wall s important role in early Roman history, its distinctly
Roman construction, and its forts and milestone castles, Hadrian s Wall was the
definitive Roman structure in Great Britain.

Instead, they used a considerably simpler method.
The main technique the Romans used in constructing Hadrian s Wall was opus
incertum. Opus incertum used irregularly shaped uncut stones and places them
randomly in their special cement, opus caementicium. The Roman concrete was
exceptionally strong and durable, and can be seen in many Roman architectural
structures throughout their empire.
Roman concrete (opus caementicium), like modern concrete, is an artificial
building material composed of an aggregate, a binding agent, and water. Aggregate
is essentially a filler, such as gravel, chunks of stone and rubble, broken bricks, etc.
Binding agent is a substance which is mixed with the aggregate wet (water added)
and solidifies when it dries, or sets. Many materials, even mud, can be a binding
agent, and used to make, what we generally call, mortar. Historically lime or gypsum,
mixed with rubble stones, have been used as binding agents in making a strong
mortar (Roman Concrete).
Nevertheless, this was a standard concrete technique in history, the Romans decided
to strengthen their concrete mixture with another substance.
In order to create their special concrete, the Romans introduced into the principal
concrete mixture a fundamental component; pozzolona, a special volcanic dust found
in central Italy. Pozzolona created an exceptionally strong bond with the aggregate. In
most parts of the Roman world,
Thinking, Fast And Slow By Daniel Kahneman
This distinctive book called, Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman, is one
of very few exquisite readings I ve completed so far. Daniel Kahneman is a
psychologist in Princeton University, and due to his research, he won a Nobel
Prize in 2002 in economics. In the beginning of his book, he speaks of our
cognitive System 1 and System 2 ways of thinking. System 1 generates feelings,
impressions, and memory. It is very instinctive, automatic, and is considered quick
thinking. System 2 on the other hand, is alert during complex problem solving,
while dealing with facts and knowledge, and is attentive while working with
difficult calculations. For example, a problem such as 24 x 13, this takes more time
and knowledge to figure out (System 2), rather then recognizing an emotion from
face expressions (System 1). When System 1 is strained, your System 2 steps in to
help you process through that specific instant. Now aside from the psychological
portion of this book, Mr. Kahneman divulges about a consolidated economic analysis
with elemental intuitions from the psychological perspective; such as, luck and skill,
overconfidence, risks in the stock market, factors of success and the decision making
process. This book is overall concluded with the understanding of behavioral
economics, which is the social and cognitive components on economic decisions that
are defined by individuals and have consequences that reflect from making those
decisions and taking those risks.

characteristic I have chosen is Color or shade of the slave s skin. When Willie
Lynch talked about using the dark skinned slave against the light skinned slaves, he
really didn t realize that would be one of the biggest issues in the black community
today. In the slavery era, being light skinned made you a better person with more

that you worked only indoors. In those days it was an accomplishment to be an
African American that worked indoors, because you didn t have to be involved in
the active outdoor labor, like picking cotton. Even today people with lighter skin are
thought to be the more attractive and well kept, causing jealousy and tension from
darker African Americans. In conclusion, though the letter is very impacting there
are people who believe that the Willie Lynch letter was fictional. Many people say

The At The University Of California Riverside ( Ucr )
It s the day of an important final that could either make or break your grade. You
have been driving around for thirty minutes looking for a place to park. Glancing at
the clock that shows you only have ten minutes left before the test starts, panic
begins to rise and you could feel tears forming behind your eyes. With no other
choices left, you decide to look for a spot along the street. After parking blocks
away from campus, you take off running at full speed, hoping that your professor is
a forgiving and understanding person. The situation above is something many
college students, especially those here at the University of California Riverside
(UCR), are well aware of. Although there are tons of parking lots here at UCR,
students still struggle to find a place to park. One of the main reasons is because of
the increase in students attending across campuses all over the US. According to
the National Center for Educational Statistic, Between 2001 and 2011, enrollment
increased 32 percent, from 15.9 million to 21.0 million. As a result, the amount of
parking spaces here at UCR could not compensate for the growing number of
students. A lack of parking spaces can cause many detriments toward the students as
it can hinder with their class schedules, cause them to either be late or miss a class,
and overall affect their grades. If UCR implement a shuttle bus system for the empty
parking lots that are far away from the school, students would be less stress about the
parking
Steve Mcqueen s Hunger
I believe that art is meant to push viewers to ask questions, and to jolt them out of
their comfort zones and offer them food for thoughts as well as their spirits. In
order to keep viewers on their toes, I believe an artwork that seems to parallel the
local values on the surface and yet, would starkly contrast them with its content,
would not only be effective but powerful. I chose Steve McQueen s Hunger
(2008), because I believe that content of this film would contrast the Lotus Eater
lifestyle inherent to Kelowna city and the Okanagan in general. The film industry
does parallel these ideals of escapism, usually by homogenizing dreams and
fantasies. However, Hunger serve as a great argument in favour of film as an art
form as opposed to a mere idle form of entertainment. It is a great reminder that
film, as a very potent art form, can have lasting effect and consequences on a
massive scale because it can affect the way we speak of our humanity in political
spheres. The reasons why I think the Lotus Eater lifestyle is inherent... Show more

Hunger is about the 1981 hunger strike in Northern Ireland s Maze Prison, which
was led by prisoners, who manifested to have their status as prisoners of war
recognized by the sovereign state. Steve McQueen created a work of art which ...
operates on a register of individual, visceral trauma the beatings, starvation, and
degradation of the bodies and on a simultaneous register of collective, social and
historical trauma. (Carsten, 43). The film can be summed up in 3 parts: the first
demonstrate the degrading conditions in which both prisoners and guards are
exposed to everyday; the second is a 22 minutes dialogue between the leader of the
strike Bobby Sands, who explains his reasons to go through with the strike, and a
priest, who tries to dissuade him. The third part exposes the starvation and corporeal
degeneration of Bobby Sands until his

  • 2. Euthyphro, By Plato The Main Idea That Comes Up Is... Seiji Hayashi PHIL 3500 Chrisoula Andreou In Euthyphro, by Plato the main idea that comes up is socratic ignorance. Euthyphro argues that he is the self proclaimed expert on the subject of piety and impiety. I could argue in the position that, Euthyphro is claiming expertise in a subject that he doesn t know enough about. This socratic ignorance is the idea of the dialogue. I have decided to take an extra argument in this paper. I argue there is ignorance in both Socrates and Euthyphro. Although it s more difficult to prove, I explain the situations of piety and impiety and how it is relative to each person and the time period of the discussion. Bringing the background situation to show claims made by Euthyphro and lack of evidence provided in this dialogue. The supporting claims I share after are on Euthyphro s side of conversation. This determines his thoughts, on the definition of piety and unspoken details that I have determined. Socrates also makes arguments that are known to be true, to Euthyphro through comparison of different circumstances. This happens through Socrates and Euthyphro, use of asking questions and questing answer, from what explained, based on the knowledge of Euthyphro. I use the background of the whole dialogue, in pointing out flaws in the responses of both parties. I also bring into aspect of the circumstance relative to the time period, and the nature of people s beliefs, in religion. The background of the dialogue the important to the
  • 3. What Are The Mummies Of Ancient Culture Mummies of ancient cultures: facts before fiction For centuries, people have been fascinated with death. Many questions are asked about what happens after we die, and these questions may forever remain unanswered. As well as beliefs, everyone has an idea of what they wat to happen to them after that die. You may want to be cremated and have your ashes spread across an open meadow, or you may just want to be put in a coffin, and laid into the ground. As it was hundreds of years ago with different beliefs, it is the same today. Different religions, different Gods, and different ways of thinking. But how exactly are they different? When people think of ancient burial, they think back to ancient Egyptians. And what is the reason they are remembered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Mayan culture, one would often be buried beneath their own house! The rest of the family would then abandon the house so they would not disturb the dead. Much mourning was held for those who had passed. China and ancient Egypt are quite similar! The Chinese would have their favorite foods buried with them, so they could accompany the soul in the afterlife. (Bradley) Artifacts that belonged to the deceased would also be buried with them. But the Chinese practiced one ritual that many other ancient cultures did not: servants and concubines be buried with the body. Even if they were alive when the deceased had died. It was a way of claiming property. The Chinese would bury the dead in bronze vessels. Egyptians were buried underground and, famously, the great pyramids of Egypt. But this was mainly for the fabulously wealthy. For the more common of the Egyptians, however, a grave was usually the final resting place. (Mark, Burial ) The Romans practiced burying the dead during the night as to not disturb the activities of the normal city life. The tradition they used, was that they buried the body on the outside of the city walls in order to maintain the boundary between the living and the dead. Even when cremation was used, the ashes could not be buried within the city. The ashes either gathered into an urn, or interred in a tomb. Romans thought that funerary practices were so important, that they paid money monthly to make sure their funeral rites would be performed in accordance with tradition, and their status in the community. Rule of Law in the layman perspective is the principle that nobody is above the law and that every man s act is subject to the law. The law referred, in our context, is the Malaysian Constitution which embodies the definition, expressly in many of its provisions. The constitution has the absolute power as against the arbitrariness and discretionary power of the government. This concept is commonly practiced in democratic countries. In this comparison I will be analyzing how these author s writing styles portray the character development in Silko s main character Tayo, and the minor characters which Wolfe documented. In both pieces, the reader can see that the characters are presented either internal or external conflicts, and sometimes both, that shape their realities as well as affect the decisions they make. In order to convey this characterprogression, both Silko and Wolfe illustrate the ways that their characters gain their acceptance of their social standings in society, and more importantly in themselves and what they believe, through the use of fragmented writingstyles as well as the inclusion of flashbacks and poems. Before I analyze these author s writing styles, I want to point out the different obstacles that these characters are facing. It would seem, by the students tacit and silent acceptance of her behavior, that this is de rigueur, par for the course. These days, a college degree serves as one of the few tickets into a socially and economically comfortable lifestyle. College itself, ideally, should vastly increase the knowledge, skills, and capacity for critical thinking in its students. However, in this racially imbalanced society, college is the culmination of a white weighted education, and often ignores its own participation in long standing racial injustices and inequities. Minority students are expected to jump headlong into white standards of behavior, without regard for the unique circumstances that render that expectation difficult, if not impossible, to meet. My schooling gave me no training in seeing myself as an oppressor, as an unfairly advantaged person, or as a participant in a damaged culture. I was taught to see myself as an individual whose moral state depended on her individual moral will. My schooling followed the pattern my colleague Elizabeth Minnich has pointed out: whites are taught to think of their lives as morally neutral, normative, and average, and also ideal, so that when we work to benefit others, this is seen as work
  • 25. The Idea Of Gatorade Was First Created By The University... The idea of Gatorade was first created by the University of Florida assistant football coach when he was curious as to why many of his players were affected by the heat and contracted heat related illnesses. He worked together with a group of physicians from the university and discovered two factors as to why the players were feeling like this during practices and games. They found that the fluids and electrolytes the players lost through sweat were not being replaced and the amounts of carbs in the players bodies used for energy were not being replenished. They then went to the lab and came up with a balanced carbohydrate electrolyte beverage called Gatoradethat would replace the key components lost during sweating and exercising (Figure 1). The next step was to introduce the product to the team. That season the Gators started to win and finished the season 7 4. The following season, they finished 9 2 and ended up winning the Orange Bowl, their first in school history (Figure 1). Other schools and universities started to hear about Gatorade, and both University of Richmond and Miami University of Ohio were the first to order batches of Gatorade. Soon the trend picked up and it started to become unusual to not see Gatorade on the sidelines of college football games. Today, Gatorade is the official sports drink for more than 70 Division I men s and women s collegiate teams. After winning the Orange Bowl, head coach of the Gators suggested to the Kansas City Chiefs to use

This sense of power and control that Othello feels he has to assert over Desdemona escalates to the point that he feels justified it is his right to take her life. The Market Revolution took place in the early 19th century, and it drastically changed not only the market and commerce of Americans but their personal lives as well. Before the Market Revolution America hadn t seen any new life changing innovations, most of their goods, such as clothing and farming tools, were still being made from home, and trade was limited by poor roads and little means of transportation. In addition, the poor road system meant that there was little interaction and movement between each state. It wasn t till the creation of new ways of communicating, steamboats, and the building of canals, railroads, and turnpikes that prompted American expansion. As a result, the United States began to see a movement of settlements westward and the rise cities. The Embargo of 1807 and the War of 1812, led to the cutoff of British imports and the need to establish the first large scale factories; the rise of factories then led to new employment and a boom in domestic manufacturing (Foner 331). The changes led by the advances in the society of the Market Revolution evidently gave women the opportunity to gain a level of equality in both domestic and work environments, it also gave Americans the

The main technique the Romans used in constructing Hadrian s Wall was opus incertum. Opus incertum used irregularly shaped uncut stones and places them randomly in their special cement, opus caementicium. The Roman concrete was exceptionally strong and durable, and can be seen in many Roman architectural structures throughout their empire. Roman concrete (opus caementicium), like modern concrete, is an artificial building material composed of an aggregate, a binding agent, and water. Aggregate is essentially a filler, such as gravel, chunks of stone and rubble, broken bricks, etc. Binding agent is a substance which is mixed with the aggregate wet (water added) and solidifies when it dries, or sets. Many materials, even mud, can be a binding agent, and used to make, what we generally call, mortar. Historically lime or gypsum, mixed with rubble stones, have been used as binding agents in making a strong mortar (Roman Concrete). Nevertheless, this was a standard concrete technique in history, the Romans decided to strengthen their concrete mixture with another substance. In order to create their special concrete, the Romans introduced into the principal concrete mixture a fundamental component; pozzolona, a special volcanic dust found in central Italy. Pozzolona created an exceptionally strong bond with the aggregate. In most parts of the Roman world,
  • 39. Thinking, Fast And Slow By Daniel Kahneman This distinctive book called, Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman, is one of very few exquisite readings I ve completed so far. Daniel Kahneman is a psychologist in Princeton University, and due to his research, he won a Nobel Prize in 2002 in economics. In the beginning of his book, he speaks of our cognitive System 1 and System 2 ways of thinking. System 1 generates feelings, impressions, and memory. It is very instinctive, automatic, and is considered quick thinking. System 2 on the other hand, is alert during complex problem solving, while dealing with facts and knowledge, and is attentive while working with difficult calculations. For example, a problem such as 24 x 13, this takes more time and knowledge to figure out (System 2), rather then recognizing an emotion from face expressions (System 1). When System 1 is strained, your System 2 steps in to help you process through that specific instant. Now aside from the psychological portion of this book, Mr. Kahneman divulges about a consolidated economic analysis with elemental intuitions from the psychological perspective; such as, luck and skill, overconfidence, risks in the stock market, factors of success and the decision making process. This book is overall concluded with the understanding of behavioral economics, which is the social and cognitive components on economic decisions that are defined by individuals and have consequences that reflect from making those decisions and taking those risks.

People with fine hair were considered part white American you can say. If the pen or pencil didn t fall out you had, which most black people have now, is coarse hair which is rough. The last characteristic I have chosen is Color or shade of the slave s skin. When Willie Lynch talked about using the dark skinned slave against the light skinned slaves, he really didn t realize that would be one of the biggest issues in the black community today. In the slavery era, being light skinned made you a better person with more rights because it was assumed that you either had white in you or more commonly that you worked only indoors. In those days it was an accomplishment to be an African American that worked indoors, because you didn t have to be involved in the active outdoor labor, like picking cotton. Even today people with lighter skin are thought to be the more attractive and well kept, causing jealousy and tension from darker African Americans. In conclusion, though the letter is very impacting there are people who believe that the Willie Lynch letter was fictional. Many people say there is a large body of written material from the slavery

With no other choices left, you decide to look for a spot along the street. After parking blocks away from campus, you take off running at full speed, hoping that your professor is a forgiving and understanding person. The situation above is something many college students, especially those here at the University of California Riverside (UCR), are well aware of. Although there are tons of parking lots here at UCR, students still struggle to find a place to park. One of the main reasons is because of the increase in students attending across campuses all over the US. According to the National Center for Educational Statistic, Between 2001 and 2011, enrollment increased 32 percent, from 15.9 million to 21.0 million. As a result, the amount of parking spaces here at UCR could not compensate for the growing number of students. In order to keep viewers on their toes, I believe an artwork that seems to parallel the local values on the surface and yet, would starkly contrast them with its content, would not only be effective but powerful. I chose Steve McQueen s Hunger (2008), because I believe that content of this film would contrast the Lotus Eater lifestyle inherent to Kelowna city and the Okanagan in general. The film industry does parallel these ideals of escapism, usually by homogenizing dreams and fantasies. However, Hunger serve as a great argument in favour of film as an art form as opposed to a mere idle form of entertainment.
