task, given the broad scope of the subject. However, delving into the intricacies of crafting a
compelling and insightful piece can present its own set of challenges.
Firstly, determining the specific focus of the essay within the broad domain of English can be a
daunting task. English encompasses a vast array of topics, including literature, language,
linguistics, cultural studies, and more. Narrowing down the theme requires careful consideration

understanding of the subject matter and a skillful ability to express ideas coherently.
The process of writing itself poses its own difficulties. Organizing thoughts, creating a logical
flow of ideas, and maintaining coherence throughout the essay can be challenging. Moreover,
ensuring that the introduction captures the reader's attention, the body provides substantial
evidence, and the conclusion ties everything together adds an additional layer of complexity.
Editing and proofreading are crucial steps in the essay-writing process. Identifying and
rectifying grammatical errors, improving sentence structure, and refining the overall clarity of the
essay demand meticulous attention to detail. This phase can be time-consuming, requiring a
commitment to refining the work until it reaches a polished and professional standard.

Maryland on Saturday. Despite being 2 0 in this year s preseason, the Redskins are
potentially in a lot of trouble as their starting quarterback Robert Griffin III was
injured during their game against the Detroit Lions last Thursday. Washington

concussion as Detroit s defensive end Corey Wootton crashed on top of him while
he was trying to get a loose ball. There is still no timetable regarding the signal
caller s return. Meanwhile, the Ravens are 1 1 this preseason and are coming off a
huge 40 17 loss to the controversial Philadelphia Eagles last Saturday, as per ESPN.
Despite the defeat, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was optimistic that they have

Symbolic Interactionism And Media Analysis
The concept of generalized other was first introduced by George Mead, to further
explain symbolic interactionism. It relates to the expectations that one may have on
the action and thoughts of others. It also refers to a person s recognition that other
society members hold certain values and expectations about expected behavior.
These expectations are generally shaped by different factors such as the media or
everyday observations that may be correct or incorrect.
In the world today, a lot of terrorism activities have been witnessed with thousands
of innocent people being victims. This has led to a belief shared by many that
Muslims are generally terrorists. This may have come due to the fact that a lot of
terrorism activities are carried out by Muslim extremists but that does not qualify
everyone practicing Islam as a terrorist. An article by Pritchard (2015) indicated that
a lot of British Muslims feel that they are often associated with actions of extremism
and little attention is given to the positive actions they participate in. Of course, in
some ways, the fact that few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even with all the negative actions going on, it is important to give a full account on
those responsible while emphasizing that their principles are misguided and
separate from what the other Muslims practice. After all, it is not unheard of for
Christians to participate in extremism and yet nobody holds every Christian
accountable for their wrongs. While the concept of generalized other in society may
have little impact on the lives of people, a negative generalization such as this one
has far reaching consequences on the Muslims and those living around them. As
such, the media should uphold a code of ethics that demands that due care to be
taken especially when the issue being reported is sensitive and likely to cause a

Phineas Gage and the Role of the Brain in Cognitive Functioning The brain plays a
key role in cognitive functioning. Of the many areas in the brain, only certain areas
have an impact on cognitive functioning. The case of a man named Phineas Gage
showed key elements of specific areas in the brain that support certain cognitive
functions. The traumatic brain injury that Phineas Gage suffered in 1848 has aided
cognitive and neuropsychologists in making large strides in understanding the human
mind. In the following work, the role of the brain in cognitive functioning will be

Phineas Gage worked as a blaster for the Rutland and Burlington Railroad project
in 1848 (Grieve, 2010). While working for the railroad, one of Gage s duties was
using gunpowder and long iron rods to blast a hole into the rock so as to continue
building the tracks (Grieve, 2010). In a seemingly careless action, a three foot
tamping iron was blown from the ground through Gage s skull (Grieve, 2010).
Instead of killing him, the tamping iron left a large hole all the way through the
skull and brain of Phineas Gage (Grieve, 2010). It is clear that the injury sustained
by Phineas Gage is no ordinary injury. According to the National Institute of
Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), the injury that was sustained by
Phineas Gage can be classified as a traumatic brain injury or a TBI. A traumatic
brain injury can be defined as an injury that occurs when a sudden trauma causes
damage to the brain (NINDS, 2011). Depending on the severity of the injury to the
brain, the symptoms of a traumatic brain injury can include headaches, confusion,
vomiting, dizziness, instability of mood, fatigue, changes in behavior, and blurred
vision amongst many other symptoms (NINDS, 2011). The traumatic brain injury
that Phineas Gage suffered as a result of the tamping iron exploding from the ground
caused obvious immense damage to Gage s brain (Grieve, 2010). A large portion of
Gage s brain was damaged when the tamping

An Economy Or Economic System
An economy or economic system consists of the production, distribution or trade, and
consumption of limited goods and services by different agents in a given
geographical location. The economic agents can be individuals, businesses,
organizations, or governments. Transactions occur when two parties agree to the
value or price of the transacted good or service, commonly expressed in a certain
currency.
In the past, economic activity was theorized to be bounded by natural resources,
labor, and capital. This view ignores the value of technology, and innovation,
especially that which produces intellectual property.
A given economy is the result of a set of processes that involves its culture, values,
education, technological evolution, history, social organization, political structure
and legal systems, as well as its geography, natural resource endowment, and ecology,
as main factors. These factors give context, content, and set the conditions and
parameters in which an economy functions. The largest national economies by
continent are: the United States in the Americas, Germany in Europe, Nigeria in
Africa, China in Asia and Australia in Oceania.
A market based economy is where goods and services are produced without
obstruction or interference, and exchanged according to demand and supply between
participants by barter or a medium of exchange with a credit or debit value accepted
within the network, such as a unit of currency and at some free market or market

As we already know, the health care technologies are evolving every day which
means there will be new improvements and upgrades on the old versions all the time.
This could be a very herculean task to keep up with such upgrades and advancements.
For example, if a hospital chooses to buy a model of MRI machine and a new
upgrade is introduced to the model the next year, the hospital is required to upgrade
their equipment which could be expensive and time consuming procedure; not to
mention the amount of energy, money and resources which will be needed to train
new staffs to operate the machine and technicians to service the machines on a
regular basis to keep the equipment up to date. This could be also a struggle for the
old staffs. The technological advancement in the world is always interconnected
between different areas of technology. For example, the technological advancement in
the field of telecommunications, computer system architecture and also software
developments have vastly contributed to the growth and advancement of health
technologies that exists in the present day. For example, the invention of computers,
smaller memory disks that can store large amount of information and sophisticated
software systems that can analyse data in a short amount of time have lead the health
technology to its prime advancement which is the paperless patient records and also
known as the health care informatics. This provides access at private patient files

Hurricane Mitch Effects
Introduction Natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, seaquakes, and
volcanic eruptions are all events that frequent the country of Nicaragua and its
neighbors in Central America and the Caribbean. But one of the most devastating
natural disasters to affect the country, Hurricane Mitch, has had a lasting effect on
Nicaragua. There was an approximate of 3,000 deaths, 1,000 missing persons,
900,000 injured persons. The hurricane caused damage to 50,000 homes, 340
schools, 90 health care centers, 40 health posts and 6 hospitals across the country
(Christopolos, et al, 2010). This paper will examine the conditions of Nicaragua
before and after Hurricane Mitchand answer the question, what man made factors
played a role in the severe devastation of the country? First, the paper will discuss the
major hazardous natural events that occurred in the wake of Hurricane Mitch and
their effect on the country. Then the effect of human influence in geography, politics
and social structure will be analyzed. Finally, the paper dissect the socio economic
effect Hurricane Mitch had on the country of Nicaragua.

inches of rain it brought, led to lasting damage for the country of Nicaragua. Damage
to infrastructure, roads, and buildings pushed the country 30 50 years back in
development according to Menendez Duerte, Marquinez, and Devoli (2003). They

Nurse Patient Ratio Analysis
It is a common scenario to hear nurses complain that they are burdened with the
heavy patient workload and they are at risk for lowering the professional quality of
life. This might be due to various factors like under staffing, increase in the demand
for nurses as the population ages, inadequate supply of available nurses, intentional
lowering of staff on roll to reduce costs, and more needs due to shorter hospitalstays.
Nursepatient ratio should be kept at a manageable level in the best act to practice
safe. Professional fatigue for the nurses and the resulting errors can only be reduced
by keeping the nurse patient ratio in the recommended range.

David Tenier Research Paper
Flemish artist, David Teniers David Teniers II or David Teniers the younger was
one of the most famous and prominent artist of peasant life in the 17th century. He
was born in Antwerp and his works were influenced by his father, David Teniers

a guild in St. Luke. He was later chosen to preside over the same guild in St. Luke in
1644 ( David Teniers the Younger

most of his other artworks can be described as a genre painting. Genre paintings are
artworks that depict ordinary life ( Genre Painting ). Genre art depict everyday

Forgotten Voices of the Sioux Nation
When people are asked to voice their opinion about what the word Indian truly
entails, many refer to the countless stories, photographs, and films particularly
related to them. One such group, the Sioux are a great example of the many
inaccurate depictions history has burden them with. They are seen first and
foremost as savaged killers who took and never gave back. However, with time
much has been revealed to show their true characteristics. It was found that they
were not people of war and bloodshed, but merely of honor and strength. Stepping
away from the bias, the Sioux nation was an extraordinary group of nomads who
survived on the buffalo population, tribal interactions, and family contributions.
The Sioux or Lakota was a nation that was comprised of seven major divisions: the
Oglala, Sinchangu, Miniconjou, Hunkpapa, Shihaspa, Itazipcho, and Oohenonpa
(Hassrick 3). The Oglalas or Scatter One s Own, lived relatively close to the
northern branch of the Platte River.) This provided plenty of fertile land for crops
and for any livestock they may have had. They were also the most populous of the
seven. The Sichangus or Burnt Thighs were located just to the south east of the
oglalas. The Miniconjous or Those Who Plant by the Stream and the Oohenonpas or
Two Boilings, more commonly known as Two Kettles, lived to the north of the
Sinchangus. Together, these seven divisions formed what would be known as the
seven council fires. Having a

Why Do Neanderthals Exist
Anthropologists of primeval and present times have been tasked to research on the
Neanderthal and find out the exact time that they lived. They argued that the first
humans that had proto Neanderthal traits existed as early as 350,000 600,000 years
ago (Jordan 114). Later they discovered that true Neanderthals appeared between
200,000 and 250,000 years ago. Nevertheless, the exact date during which they
existed has been disputed by many scientists. According to (PaМ€aМ€bo 76), the first

According to (Lunine 204), modern humans share one gene (FOXP2) with the
Neanderthals. However, the main difference between Neanderthals and modern
humans is that they had a more robust and idiosyncratic morphological traits,
especially on the cranium. (Lunine, 234). Neanderthals had relatively shorter limbs,
wider barrel shaped rib cage, with reduced chin and relatively longer and enlarged
nose. Unlike the modern man who had reduced ribcage and sizeable nose. They were
more masculine than the modern man with particularly strong arms and hands. If a
physical altercation between a Neandertal and a modern man occurred, the
Neandertal would have the ability to completely physically dominate him.
Additionally, recent research shows that Neanderthals could have had better eyesight

In the beginning of Great Expectations seven year old Pip meets an escaped
convict in the graveyard one night. The convict is recaptured, but it remains
something Pip dwells on for the rest of his life. Several years later an elderly
woman named Miss Havisham and her adopted daughter Estella invite Pip to visit.
Estella berates Pip for being common. Following this encounter, Pip is unhappy
with his life until he is told some unnamed benefactor has given Pip a fortune. Pip
is whisked away to London where he wastes his money and finds himself in debt.
In the parable, the story begins with the son receiving his inheritance from his
father. The son then leaves home for a distant country. In this foreign country, he
squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation (Luke 15:13). Pip lives in
London for several years until he discovers his benefactor is the convict he met in
the graveyard. Pip tries to helps the convict, Magwitch, escape from the police, but
Magwitch is captured. As a result, Pip looses his fortune. In the parable the son
simply runs out of money just as a famine strikes the land. He tries to make a living
taking care of the swine. In the book Pip returns home briefly to make amends with
Joe and Joe s wife Biddy, then returns to London to make an honest living with his
friend Herbert. The son in the parable decides to return home in hopes that his
father will hire him as a worker. His father instead greets him with open arms and
declares this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has
been found (Luke 15:24). Pip in Great Expectations and the son in the Parable of
the Prodigal Son may appear to be similar, but they are still different. Pip begins the
story with low self esteem due to his harsh
Human Body Art
The human body is a significant object in the art of all the periods of human life.
Since the time when people started to use tools and made first steps in the art they
always tried to depict human body. The human figure has been represented in various
forms such as sculptures and paintings (Morphy, 2014). Various civilizations,
however, are different in their representation of human figures and the reasons of the
art representation are also different. To understand these motives only visual analysis
is not enough but learning the cultural and historical shreds of evidence behind these
artworks is necessary. I chose two artworks to analyze, Marble Statue of a Wounded
Amazon and HatshepsutSeated.

The strong steady position of the statue and traditional dresses has been styled to
show the kingship features of the statue. The human body has been stylized and not
portrayed naturalistically. The purpose of this statue is not to show the beauty of a
human body but to express the power of a Pharaoh of Egypt. In fact, from the style,
one can easily tell that this is an Egyptian pharaoh without having to go through the
artwork. (David, A. (2010).
An analysis of two artwork Hatshepsut Seated and Marble Statute of a Wounded
Amazon shows the representation of human figure in different cultures and the
reasons for their representation. Hatshepsut Seated is an Egyptian sculpture, which
was used to represent the image of kingship and Egyptian Pharaohs and possibly
show the immortality of pharaoh. Marble Statute of a Wounded Amazon, on the other
hand, is a Greek statue that represents the Greek women hero known as Amazon and

My Dad s Blood Alcohol Concentration Essay
Dad walked in the front door of our old farm house stumbling and cussing up a
storm. The stench of alcohol on his clothes was so strong it filled the house. My
siblings and I paid no attention to it, for this was a normal occurrence. We ran up to
him and gave him hugs excited to see him. The look on his face was not the same
thrill as on ours. He meandered up the creaky, wooden stairway to my parents
bedroom, which at the time was only enclosed on three sides and open towards the
stairway, where the fourth wall should have been. I followed closely behind him,
my siblings after me. My mom was at the end of her bed, folding clothes. My dad,
dirty from his construction job, had begun to change his clothes. Trying to lighten
his mood, my mom jokingly took some of his change and tried to start a game of tag
per se. My dad s Blood AlcoholConcentration (BAC) was too high to focus on a
petty game like this, it just pissed him off. You could see the alcoholic rage in his
eyes, as my mom ran down the stairs with his change and keys. My older sister
Susie, my younger brother Jacob, and I were pushed into my room and he locked
the door, he shouted Stay here! as he took of stumbling down the steps after my
mom. Shaking, worried about what his drunkenness would cause him to do, I
knew we had to get out. The lock on my door was just a hoop and latch, so I shook
the door till it popped out. As I pushed the door open, I could hear my dad shouting
downstairs, and glass shatter. As we
My Search For Going To College
What do you mean I cannot live with my parents for the rest of my life? So you
mean to tell me that I actually have to become an adult? . These have been the
thoughts plaguing my mind for the past four years and now that my time is up, I get
to do something about them. My main problem with going to collegeis being away
from my home, my family, and my friends. I knew that if I were to pick the wrong
college, I would be running back to my mom in a weeks time. Finding the right
college is a universal challenge for every upcoming college student, but when I found
Baylor UniversityI knew it was my new home.
My hunt for the perfect college started my freshmen year of high school. During
that time in my life, I felt there was a big weight on my shoulders to be successful
in life. Since picking the right college is a big part of being successful, I was feeling
overwhelmed. There are about 1,400 colleges in the United States and I had to
narrow that down to a top five, frantic was an understatement about how I was
feeling. Taking a step back to look at the big picture, I decided to evaluate what I was
looking for in a college; I came up with the following list: have my desired major
(Astrophysics), be far away from home (but not too far), and to live in a big city.
Applying my new set of criteria, I now only had 3 colleges to choose from:
University of Texasat Austin, Rice University, and Baylor University. I gave my
contact information to each of them and in time I had a scheduled visit to Baylor
University.
When I arrived on the Baylor campus I immediately felt at home. I had the honor of
attending the Baylor Premier, which acts like a huge campus tour for everyone that
attends the seminar.
Everybody was so genuinely nice and enthusiastic about me being there, I got the
feeling that was where I belonged. I could see myself walking the campus with my
newly found friends on the way to our The Atomic Theory 101 class. Although I
have a tendency of letting my head float in the sky, I had to snap myself out of my
dreamland and back into reality to remember that I still had two other options for my
perfect college. Not wanting to make my decision after only seeing one school I
scheduled campus tours with The
Ocean Freight Analysis
Objective
The purpose of this report is to analyze the price and revenue management in
containerized ocean freight industry. First of all, we will introduce the background
and development of ocean freight industry; explore the characteristics of ocean
freight price and demand. Then we will analyze relationship between demand and
price. Two famous shipping companies, COSCO and MSC will be introduced as
examples to implement price optimization with price differentiation and competition
considered in ocean shipping industry. Finally, we will discuss revenue management
in ocean freight, the strategy of enlarging their margin during such a recession period.
Based on current economy circumstance, we will analyze the trend of ocean ... Show

The profit of exporters decreased significantly, because most Chinese exporters relied
on the refund of export tax to maintain their business under such fierce global
competition at that time. To avoid or reduce loss, exporters rushed to export their
cargo before July 1st, which resulted in serious overbooking in June and incurred a
large demand of shipping capacity, accordingly, the price of ocean freight per
container sored to the highest in past ten years and many shipping companies made
additional orders to build new vessels. While, the next year, 2008, the global
economy crisis broke out, recession weakened the purchasing power of Europe
dramatically; consequently, export from China to Europe declined sharp. Freight
dropped. Also large amount of shipping capacity became free. It is probably the
toughest time for container ocean freight industry. It is essential to analyze the
demand, price and revenue management in this industry.
Demand and Revenue Management

Demand Analysis
Ocean freight industry depends on international trade totally. The demand of ocean
freight drives from good exchanges, that one area exports its most competitive
merchandise to other areas. Ocean freight industry enables the goods to be circulated,
promoting international trade growth. Compared to air freight, the cost of container
ocean freight is much lower, though the transit time is longer.
Negative Expectations In Society
From the moment we are born our genders have given others a certain expectation
from each and every one of us . Women are usually expected to know how to cook
and clean , to have children and stay home to take care of them , they are to aspire
to be a perfect wife for their future husband . Men are expected to take care of their
family by bringing a good amount of money homeeach day and with that , pay the
bills . Even though most of us probably don t see things like this , maybe some of
our family members still do and they go by these false perceptions that society has
put on all of us since the day we are born . I know that my family does and maybe
yours does too . Speaking from experience I know how tiring it is to hear the same
things being repeated to you almost your whole life or doing things you just don t
wantto do. Many children are raised in a household where they are taught to follow
these expectations created by society , including myself . I have always been told
there is a certain expectation from me as a women that I should get used to
cleaning the house and cooking a meal because if I cant t do those tasks , no man
will want to be with me . Which I find infuriating , i should not be expected to take a
care of another who can take care of themselves and if I were to , it would be my
choice not because i am expected to do so , due to my gender. That doesn t go for just
women, but men too. It s not fair that men are expected to pay for the bills , rent ,
Essay On Tank Man
Disobedience is inevitable. It is an overtaking urge you to express when you
encounter something that you disagree with. However, some of the greatest acts
of disobedience have lead us to a path of improvement. Some examples can lead to
a path to Rosa Parks and the Tank Man . These bold people were seen as rebels in
society, but they were rebels of justice. Rosa Parks was and still is one of the most
recognized symbols of history. When she refused to surrender her bus seat to a white
person in Montgomery, she started a new revolutionary wave of the Civil Rights
Movements. When she neglected to give her seat, the whole African Americanrace
could be seen through her actions. But the American society did not appreciate her
disobedient approach and therefore sent her to jail. However, her bold action was not
taken for granted by those who hungered for justice. The people started to boycott all
over the city, forcing the government officials to lift the law concerning the
segregation on public buses. This rebellious action,... Show more content on

The Tank Man was protester who stood in front of a military tank after they ceased
a group of protesters on Tiananmen Square. This act leads to several controversial
statements against the former government. Although they did retire strict laws
involving their human rights, the Chinese government still held onto their dictating
ruling. However, the Tank Man s valiant act of disobedience introduced to the
world the concept of bravery when your life is on the brink of destruction. The idea
of disobedience is thought to be a defeatist way to express yourself towards others.
Nevertheless, the outcome of any unruly action may not always end in an adverse
consequence. By observing the influence of both Rosa Parks and the Tank Man , we
can conclude that some of the most drastic revolutionary transformations of all time
have occurred because of various disobedient
Designing A Computer Controlled Machine
Robots, like any computer controlled machine, can be programmed in their
movements. But the production of control data in the form of coded machine
instructions requires programming skills as well as an understanding of robotics
concepts such as kinematics, which lie outside most architects domain of expertise.
To address this problem, the custom robotprogramming library YOUR, which aims at
making robot control intuitively accessible to students, has been implemented. Based
on this, a toolkit of visual programming components for GrasshopperTM, allowing
students to directly assemble graphical components for the control of their robotic
fabrication sequences, was developed. The technologies for controlling robot arms

Robotic fabrication and computational design augment each other in several ways. In
addition to the direct materialization of digitally conceived designs, the physical
working model provides students with a differentiated and sensual feedback on their
design, whereby they can immediately engage with its constructive and structural
aspects. As part of an iterative process, these insights can then be re integrated into
the computational design strategy.
Architectural design practice will be increasingly mediated by digital technology in
the future. Digital fabrication technology allows architects to conceive designs both
digitally and physically, and may empower them to take a more active role in the
materialization and construction process.
Nested voids
The robotic fabrication process is based on the integration of non standard element
prefabrication and robotic assembly. The model s walls and floors are laser cut out
of cardboard sheets, which are placed on a custom designed feeder system (left).
From there the robot picks the elements (centre), applies glue and places them

and 1950 s. It remains a relevant technique practiced today. This article researched the
relevance of Person Centered Therapy since Carl Rogers s death in the late 1987. The
article determined the relevance of this by using three measures. First, how often
Person Centered Therapy was included in organizations, journals, and institutes

It was proposed that Person Centered Therapy would help the counselor with building
empathy with the combat veteran (Quinn, 2008). Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
amongst our combat veterans continues to have an impact on individuals, families,
and the community as a whole. Counselors need to be willing to try different
approaches to be most effective with clients. The fact that Person Centered Therapy
can be effective with combat veterans and that counselors are continuing to find ways
to utilize it with today s society again proves that its relevance continues. All
professional counselors have the ethical and legal duty to help their clients to the best
of their ability. Counselors using Person Centered Therapy are no exception to this
rule. It is up to the counselor to gage the best therapeutic benefit within their scope of
knowledge for their clients when choosing approaches and theories. In conclusion, I
would have to agree with the article that Person Centered Therapy remains an
important aspect in counseling today. It continues to be taught not only in entry level
college courses but amongst graduate school students as well. Person Centered
Therapy has continued to be researched to see its effectiveness amongst different
populations such as combat war veterans and multicultural populations.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Horror Genre Essay
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Horror Genre Typically the Horror or more
specifically Vampire genre will have the theme good vs. evil where the hero
represents good and the villain represents evil. This is consistent in Buffy the
Vampire Slayer as Buffy is the hero and the evil vampires she slays (in this episode
Glory/Ben) represent evil. There is also a clichГ© within this genre where good is
always triumphant over evil. Buffy in this episode conforms to this clichГ© but with
a twist; which is also typical of the Genre, good triumphs over evil in the end but not
without a sacrifice. Although Buffy contains many of the conventions that are typical

There is something unusual about the villain in this episode of Buffy in so much
as she has taken on the body of an innocent teenage boy called Ben meaning Buffy
faces a moral dilemma (moral dilemmas are typical of this genre) when trying to
eradicate Glory s threat. Buffy decides she cannot take a human life (Ben) even if
it ensures the safety of the world proving her to be a hero that holds a strong grip
on her morals. However, another group member ; Giles who from his appearance
looks clever takes a different course of action to the problem; he decides the only
way is to kill Glory/Ben and with this he slowly suffocates the severely injured Ben
. This provides the audience with a tear jerking moment. Typical stock characters
of a horror film include Vampires, Goblins, Zombies and innocent Victims. In this
episode of Buffy we see only one of these stock characters: Goblins. The Goblins
are typically ugly looking creatures who have hunchbacks and green skin as in this
episode of Buffy. They are loyal to their mistress and help her to fight Buffy and her
friends. Stereotypically the horror genre will contain a twist at the end. Buffy
conforms to this in her tragic death, she saves Dawn but not without a sacrifice. As

Analysis Of The Philosophical Views Of The Other

In looking at the philosophical views of the Other presented by Emmanuel Levinas
we will consider whether we act strictly for the good of others without investing
any self interest in what we do or do we do what we desire most at the end of the
day; however, we will find many of our daily interactions including working, caring
for another and just basic interactions are all done in self interest not in the interest of
the Other. According to Rosenstand (2013) Levinas explains the Other as a term seen
in philosophy about a person who is different from oneself; it is when one is facing
something or someone that one is fundamentally unfamiliar with. (Rosenstand,
2013, p. 82) He goes onto explain that this stranger can be a person of a different
sex or race or even someone who has different experiences than oneself. Levinas sees
the bottom line of all human existence as the encounter with the Other. (Rosenstand,
2013, p. 513) When people meet people they will more often than not meet someone
who is different from them. They will be a different color. A different sex. A
different social class. It will be someone who has grown up in a different environment
than them. And instinct will set in and one will try to change the Other; they will
perceive that they are helping the Other but really they are helping themselves. One
person will

Bainbridge stood for what he believe in and follow his own principles. I can relate
to the Bainbridge because, there was a time I was treated different because I had

was bad and people started to hate that I could keep my mouth shut about thing and
lesser people started to hang around me. Bainbridge was influenced by the author
Rodney Stark. Stark worked with Bainbridge on the Stark Bainbridge theory of
religion. They wrote The Future of Religion (1985) and A Theory of Religion

Global Warming And Climate Change Myths
If you want to go beyond that small percentage of people who are already
environmentally and scientifically aware, you have to make your work somehow
link with a passion, interest, or profession of someone who isn t interested in science
or nature (Nalini Nadkarni, n.d.). Like most who are not fully educated on a subject
until they research it or take a course on it, I was not aware of the overall importance
or impact that environmental sciencehad on my everyday life and the world around
me. One of the major things that have been brought to my attention in this course is
environmental issues, and what I can do to help improve them. One of the convincing
arguments that have not only shaped my attitude, but cleared a lot of things up for
me was reading and learning about Global Warmingand climate change myths. One
of the myths on the list that stood out to me was, They changed the name from
Global Warming to Climate Change (Global Warming Climate Change Myths,
2016). According to the scientists, both terms actually mean two different things,
and have both been used for decades, proving that myth to be false. Another big
myth that seems to occupy the minds of a very large part of the world s population
is, It s not an urgent situation. To this, scientists have responded (and I fully agree)
with, A large amount of warming is delayed, and if we don t act now we could pass
tipping points (Global Warming Climate Change Myths, 2016). Another topic that

The Effects of the French Revolution on the World
After the American Revolutionary War the French were left with millions of
dollars in debt because of their efforts to help the U.S defeat the British. Charles
Alexandre de Calonne, the Controller General of Finances in 1786 attempted to fix
the money problem but his ideas on reform offended the French Parliament so much
that Louis XVI was forced to dismiss him. The Controller General of Finances who
was appointed after him, LomГ©nie de Brienne found that in order to fix the money
problems he was forced to revert to the previously suggested reforms and King Louis
XVI registered them without the approval of Parliament. This led to opposition
between Parliament and the King, which eventually spread to all of France. Violent
riots broke out in towns across France, marking the beginning of the French
Revolution (Furet 49 51). The ideas and documents created as a result of the French
revolution may have had a significant impact on human rights and modernized law
and politics throughout the world.
One of the important legacies of the French Revolution was Declaration of the Rights
of Man and Citizen and its impact on human rights. During the summer of 1789
several revolutions rocked France that effected decisions made later. These
revolutions included the revolution of the Deputies, the Urban Revolution, and the
Peasant Revolution, which led to the Storming of

Bach v. Handel When thinking of composers, whose works changed the world of
music forever, many names may come to mind. Among those on that list, both
Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel are figures whose effect on
music has been felt worldwide. Born in the same year, these composers have much in
common and many differences that illustrate their importance to their era and music
as we see it today. Their individualism and creativity influenced much of their time
and together, their works defined the Baroque Period as we know it today. Johann

His career includes 42 operas, 29 oratorios, 16 organ concerti, over 120 cantatas,
trios and duets, chamber music, odes, and many ecumenical pieces, his most
famous work being the Oratorio Messiah. Composed in 1741, the oratorio was
preformed first in Dublin in 1742. It had a scriptural text from the King James
Bible and was written for modest vocal and instrumental forces. The work,
although very much in the style of Handel, is a series of thoughts on the Christian
idea of redemption and utilizes a mixture of traditions. After Handel s death in
1759, the Oratorio began to gain popularity even further and was adapted to larger
scale choirs and orchestras. Handel has very much influenced the world of music,
especially through his operas, and has grown in popularity throughout the years. As
the inventor of English Oratorios and being so well known for his Italian operas
his style and influence is felt around the world even still in the music of today. So
where are the similarities between these two composers? Both being German and
born in the same year, both excelled at organ and studied the music of German and
Italian composers. Being masters at counterpoint, both exhibited similarities in their
skills and styles. Aside from Bach s absence from opera, both composers had
remarkable influence on nearly every contemporary genre. They both made huge
impressions on keyboard pieces, being exceptionally skilled at organ.

during their time of release, seem to have a universal theme of not receiving positive
recognition. However, as time went on, people found themselves developing a taste
for such heart tugging tales. Classical novels, because of the language in which they
were written, contain ideas and build skill sets like no other noveltoday;due to, the
originality and uniqueness of the plot, eternal truths and unrealistic themes, and
benefits gained from reading them.
A novel is not dubbed a classic simply based on the number of printings it has
undergone or the languages it has been translated into. Nor is it called a classic
because some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coincidentally, much of the plot tends to come from personal experiences the authors
themselves have faced. For example, in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice, the
character Mr. Darcy was based on Austen s own ill fated love. If a classical novel
could have been written twice, then it would have no chance of withstanding the tests
of time. One would eventually overshadow the other. All classicsshare the
accomplishment of overcoming the obstacles that come with an ever changing
world. The works of Bronte, Austen, Hardy, Tolstoy, and Wilde are all classics;
however, not one is the same as the other. Despite those who have tried to recreate
them with nonsensical parodies, The classics are classics because they are foolproof.
Plagiarism enhances them.... A classic, therefore, sustains its impact over time,
regardless of the ways in which it is or might be adapted. The uniqueness of most
classical novels come from the fact that centuries after their publication, they have yet
to finish what they were saying; however, modern novels cannot say it for
Fossil Fuels In Australia
Fossil fuels are a fuel that was formed over millions of years from organic material
from forms of life. There are different types of fossil fuels such as gas, oil, nuclear
and the one mostly produced in Australia, coal. Australian government supplies
energy from fossil fuels to the entire country as around 86% of electricity is
generated from these fuels, with 73% from coaland 13% from natural gaswith
renewable energysources making up 14% of Australia s electricity (origin,2015).
Fossil fuels have advantages such as the reliability and efficiency because they
generate huge amount of energy which is more reliable (Rinkesh,2009). They are
also safe with easy transportation on large trucks or pumped through large pipes.
However, fossil fuels
How School Is An Environment That Has Great Powers
One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those
who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material,
but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.
Carl Jung
Strolling down memory lane, back to school experiences as a child, many different
memories come flooding back; some positive ones, and some not as enjoyable.
School is an environment that has great powers. It has the power to influence and
shape us, no matter what grade level. Teachers need to realize the great responsibility
they carry, for without them even knowing, they can make everlasting marks and
impressions on their students, both positively and negatively, forever.
Throughout my years in school, I can definitely pick and choose the methods, traits,
and behaviors, that I would like to practice and emulate. Unfortunately though, I also
learned the hard way, the traits and behaviors that I forever want to avoid and forget!
Beginning with my ECE years, there are a few things that I remember very clearly.
Firstly, which I find very important, my teachers used songs with whatever they
were teaching. Music is the language of the soul is not a famous saying for nothing.
Kids learn best through song, as opposed to just listening to teachers talk. This is true
for all grades, not only Nursery. The fact that I still remember songs from
The Effect of Ph on a Food Preservative Essay
The Effect of pH on a Food Preservative
September 18, 2012
Objective:
To study the affect of pH on a food preservative.
Chemical Equation: C6H5COONa + HCL C6H5COOH + NaCl
Procedure:
This experiment was started with a clear solution of sodium benzoate and HCl was
added to it, ultimately producing benzoic acid. First, .3395 g of sodium benzoate was
weighed, then it was dissolved in water, causing it to disassociate into ions. Next,
3M of HCl were added drop wise to the solution until it reached a pH of 2, thus
introducing the hydronium ion. This addition caused a white, solid benzoic acid to
precipitate out of the solution. A vacuum filtration system was used to separate the
solid from the liquid. What was once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once, the precipitate was ready to be placed in the oven there was not enough time
to allow for it to dry for 10 minutes. The precipitate was only in the oven for about 5
minutes, therefore, when weighed there was excess liquid in the precipitate. The final
weight of the precipitate was .45 g which was more than the amount that was started
with. From this end weight, it can be deduced that there was excess liquid in the end
result.
Post Lab: 1. The experiment began with a clear solution of sodium benzoate, once
3 M of HCl were added to achieve a pH of 2, the clear solution became a precipitate.
Sodium benzoate was water soluble, but the yield of benzoic acid became quite
insoluble in water.
3b. Although, a low amount of HCl was used, the waste can still cause health risks
and risks to the environment because it was not just one person doing the
experiment, therefore increasing the waste of HCl. Water was also used to wash the
vial to remove all solids that might be sticking to the side of the vial, therefore,
wasting water, which is not green.
4. If you start adding NaOH to the solution in small amounts, NaOH neutralizes
part of the HCl, (moles of HCl to moles of NaOH) so the pH begins to increase
slowly, this raises the soluability. This allows for the equivalent point to be reached:
moles of HCl = moles of NaOH. By continuing to add the NaOH, pH will
Kids In Congo By Annie Oonard Analysis
Annie Leonard creates a cohesive and influential argument against man s
overwhelming reliance on consumption by integrating numerous personal anecdotes,
popular environmental design philosophies, governmental initiatives, and
corporations backward innovation tactics to reaffirm man s need to use their
sociological imagination to truly see the world in front of them and fight for a more
socially equitable and environmentally sustainable way of life. First, Leonard
provides an all encompassing perspective of corporations and the government as they
weave an overarching business safety net of monetarily driven intentions to protect
the uncontrolled growth of capitalism in the American economy. The bottom up,
American dream businesses, are overpowered... Show more content on

She first references many upstream efforts to change the way corporations and
industries design, market, and produce their products. For instance, she frequently
echoes the claims of the Upcycle s McDonough and Braungart to take the toxins out
of the design process in the beginning, like Europe is doing with chlorine removal
from paper (Leonard, 54). Leonard also continually references closing the loop for
production materials and changing values to ensure design is environmentally and
socially sound (Leonard, 84, 103). Biomimicry is also celebrated as an influential
and revolutionary design tactic (Leonard, 19). While those efforts are more top down,
Leonard also supports bottom up, such as Greenmanager (Leonard, 188). The author
successfully incorporates many environmental initiatives and efforts into a
comprehensive plan for moving forward. She embraces and encourages these efforts,
but argues they are just placing more Band Aids on a leaky pipe, rather than dealing
with the problem at hand, they are just not big or powerful enough. Rather, Leonard
asserts there must be a civic engagement part to bring the accountability and
responsibility back to the government and corporations (175). Leonard makes a great
point, but

  • 4. Symbolic Interactionism And Media Analysis The concept of generalized other was first introduced by George Mead, to further explain symbolic interactionism. It relates to the expectations that one may have on the action and thoughts of others. It also refers to a person s recognition that other society members hold certain values and expectations about expected behavior. These expectations are generally shaped by different factors such as the media or everyday observations that may be correct or incorrect. In the world today, a lot of terrorism activities have been witnessed with thousands of innocent people being victims. This has led to a belief shared by many that Muslims are generally terrorists. This may have come due to the fact that a lot of terrorism activities are carried out by Muslim extremists but that does not qualify everyone practicing Islam as a terrorist. An article by Pritchard (2015) indicated that a lot of British Muslims feel that they are often associated with actions of extremism and little attention is given to the positive actions they participate in. While the concept of generalized other in society may have little impact on the lives of people, a negative generalization such as this one has far reaching consequences on the Muslims and those living around them. As such, the media should uphold a code of ethics that demands that due care to be taken especially when the issue being reported is sensitive and likely to cause a negative social

Phineas Gage worked as a blaster for the Rutland and Burlington Railroad project in 1848 (Grieve, 2010). While working for the railroad, one of Gage s duties was using gunpowder and long iron rods to blast a hole into the rock so as to continue building the tracks (Grieve, 2010). An Economy Or Economic System An economy or economic system consists of the production, distribution or trade, and consumption of limited goods and services by different agents in a given geographical location. The economic agents can be individuals, businesses, organizations, or governments. Transactions occur when two parties agree to the value or price of the transacted good or service, commonly expressed in a certain currency. They argued that the first humans that had proto Neanderthal traits existed as early as 350,000 600,000 years ago (Jordan 114). Later they discovered that true Neanderthals appeared between 200,000 and 250,000 years ago. Nevertheless, the exact date during which they existed has been disputed by many scientists. According to (PaМ€aМ€bo 76), the first recognized humanfossils were discovered in 1856 a pre historic site a long Neander Valley in Germany (hence the name Neanderthalman); this creature is suspected to have a close resemblance to the modern man, differing in their genetic composition by just 0.12%.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to (Lunine 204), modern humans share one gene (FOXP2) with the Neanderthals. However, the main difference between Neanderthals and modern humans is that they had a more robust and idiosyncratic morphological traits, especially on the cranium. (Lunine, 234). Neanderthals had relatively shorter limbs, wider barrel shaped rib cage, with reduced chin and relatively longer and enlarged nose. Unlike the modern man who had reduced ribcage and sizeable nose. They were more masculine than the modern man with particularly strong arms and hands. If a physical altercation between a Neandertal and a modern man occurred, the Neandertal would have the ability to completely physically dominate him. Additionally, recent research shows that Neanderthals could have had better eyesight than modern humans owing to the size of their skull and larger eye sockets. They had a brain capacity of about 1600cm3 which is bigger than the modern humans. Neanderthals skeletons were much stronger with robust muscles embodied on it, and the shafts found on both the legs and the arms were highly modified to absorb stress from bending and twisting without

The book Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and the biblical Parable of the Prodigal Son hold some similarities. They do, however, hold distinct differences. The differences between Great Expectationsand the Parable of the Prodigal Son can be traced back to the purpose of the authors. The differences are evident though the authors purpose, the plot, and the main characters in both works. The main reason that Great Expectations and the Parable of the Prodigal Son are so different, is the intent of the original authors. Dickens wrote Great Expectations as a social commentary.... Since the time when people started to use tools and made first steps in the art they always tried to depict human body. The stench of alcohol on his clothes was so strong it filled the house. My siblings and I paid no attention to it, for this was a normal occurrence. We ran up to him and gave him hugs excited to see him. The look on his face was not the same thrill as on ours. He meandered up the creaky, wooden stairway to my parents bedroom, which at the time was only enclosed on three sides and open towards the stairway, where the fourth wall should have been. I followed closely behind him, my siblings after me. My mom was at the end of her bed, folding clothes. My dad, dirty from his construction job, had begun to change his clothes. Trying to lighten his mood, my mom jokingly took some of his change and tried to start a game of tag per se. These have been the thoughts plaguing my mind for the past four years and now that my time is up, I get to do something about them. My main problem with going to collegeis being away from my home, my family, and my friends. I knew that if I were to pick the wrong college, I would be running back to my mom in a weeks time. Finding the right college is a universal challenge for every upcoming college student, but when I found Baylor UniversityI knew it was my new home. My hunt for the perfect college started my freshmen year of high school. During that time in my life, I felt there was a big weight on my shoulders to be successful in life. Since picking the right college is a big part of being successful, I was feeling overwhelmed. There are about 1,400 colleges in the United States and I had to narrow that down to a top five, frantic was an understatement about how I was feeling. Taking a step back to look at the big picture, I decided to evaluate what I was looking for in a college; I came up with the following list: have my desired major (Astrophysics), be far away from home (but not too far), and to live in a big city. Applying my new set of criteria, I now only had 3 colleges to choose from: University of Texasat Austin, Rice University, and Baylor University. I gave my contact information to each of them and in time I had a scheduled visit to Baylor University. When I arrived on the Baylor campus I immediately felt at home. I had the honor of attending the Baylor Premier, which acts like a huge campus tour for everyone that attends the seminar. Everybody was so genuinely nice and enthusiastic about me being there, I got the feeling that was where I belonged. I could see myself walking the campus with my newly found friends on the way to our The Atomic Theory 101 class. Although I have a tendency of letting my head float in the sky, I had to snap myself out of my dreamland and back into reality to remember that I still had two other options for my perfect college. Not wanting to make my decision after only seeing one school I scheduled campus tours with The

Men are expected to take care of their family by bringing a good amount of money homeeach day and with that , pay the bills . Even though most of us probably don t see things like this , maybe some of our family members still do and they go by these false perceptions that society has put on all of us since the day we are born . I know that my family does and maybe yours does too . Architectural design practice will be increasingly mediated by digital technology in the future. Assignment: Final Paper the Other Nancy Barahona National University Philosophy 337 August 1, 2015 Professor Martin Gomez In looking at the philosophical views of the Other presented by Emmanuel Levinas we will consider whether we act strictly for the good of others without investing any self interest in what we do or do we do what we desire most at the end of the day; however, we will find many of our daily interactions including working, caring for another and just basic interactions are all done in self interest not in the interest of the Other. According to Rosenstand (2013) Levinas explains the Other as a term seen in philosophy about a person who is different from oneself; it is when one is facing something or someone that one is fundamentally unfamiliar with. (Rosenstand, 2013, p. 82) He goes onto explain that this stranger can be a person of a different sex or race or even someone who has different experiences than oneself. Levinas sees the bottom line of all human existence as the encounter with the Other. (Rosenstand, 2013, p. 513) When people meet people they will more often than not meet someone who is different from them. They will be a different color. A different sex. A different social class. It will be someone who has grown up in a different environment than them. And instinct will set in and one will try to change the Other; they will perceive that they are helping the Other but really they are helping themselves. One person will

Charles Alexandre de Calonne, the Controller General of Finances in 1786 attempted to fix the money problem but his ideas on reform offended the French Parliament so much that Louis XVI was forced to dismiss him. The Controller General of Finances who was appointed after him, LomГ©nie de Brienne found that in order to fix the money problems he was forced to revert to the previously suggested reforms and King Louis XVI registered them without the approval of Parliament. This led to opposition between Parliament and the King, which eventually spread to all of France. Born in the same year, these composers have much in common and many differences that illustrate their importance to their era and music as we see it today. His career includes 42 operas, 29 oratorios, 16 organ concerti, over 120 cantatas, trios and duets, chamber music, odes, and many ecumenical pieces, his most famous work being the Oratorio Messiah. Composed in 1741, the oratorio was preformed first in Dublin in 1742. It had a scriptural text from the King James Bible and was written for modest vocal and instrumental forces. The work, although very much in the style of Handel, is a series of thoughts on the Christian idea of redemption and utilizes a mixture of traditions. After Handel s death in 1759, the Oratorio began to gain popularity even further and was adapted to larger scale choirs and orchestras. Handel has very much influenced the world of music, especially through his operas, and has grown in popularity throughout the years. As the inventor of English Oratorios and being so well known for his Italian operas his style and influence is felt around the world even still in the music of today. So where are the similarities between these two composers? Both being German and born in the same year, both excelled at organ and studied the music of German and Italian composers. Being masters at counterpoint, both exhibited similarities in their skills and styles. Aside from Bach s absence from opera, both composers had remarkable influence on nearly every contemporary genre. Chifuyu then began to tell her story, Before I came to pilot an IS, I was once an agent of an elite international intelligence agency, the V.S.S.E, which was short for Vital Situation Swift Elimination. The agency was involved in eliminating any terrorist threat to the security of the world. I was a part of the Field Operations Unit which was comprised of the best agents in the world. After I left the agency, I left most of the shares to you. I m sorry that I didn t tell you Ichika. You weren t ready for the truth. Ichika was shocked about what he heard. Well, now you ve told me. , he said. And now I want to get back at Phantom Task for what they did. Chifuyu was shocked at those words, Ichika, that s crazy, you aren t even prepared and equipped to face this organization. You ll die from facing them. Ichika shrugged those words off and said, Then I ll die trying. Where do I find V.S.S.E Headquarters, because I m done playing the part of a
  • 38. Classic Is A Classic Essay Mark Twain, a renowned eighteenth century writer, once said that a classic is something everyone wants to have read yet no one wants read; those words have never been more true today. Most novels that are considered classics, especially during their time of release, seem to have a universal theme of not receiving positive recognition. However, as time went on, people found themselves developing a taste for such heart tugging tales. Classical novels, because of the language in which they were written, contain ideas and build skill sets like no other noveltoday;due to, the originality and uniqueness of the plot, eternal truths and unrealistic themes, and benefits gained from reading them. A novel is not dubbed a classic simply based on the number of printings it has undergone or the languages it has been translated into. Nor is it called a classic because some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Coincidentally, much of the plot tends to come from personal experiences the authors themselves have faced. For example, in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice, the character Mr. Darcy was based on Austen s own ill fated love. If a classical novel could have been written twice, then it would have no chance of withstanding the tests of time. One would eventually overshadow the other. All classicsshare the accomplishment of overcoming the obstacles that come with an ever changing world. The works of Bronte, Austen, Hardy, Tolstoy, and Wilde are all classics; however, not one is the same as the other. Despite those who have tried to recreate them with nonsensical parodies, The classics are classics because they are foolproof. Plagiarism enhances them.... A classic, therefore, sustains its impact over time, regardless of the ways in which it is or might be adapted. The uniqueness of most classical novels come from the fact that centuries after their publication, they have yet to finish what they were saying; however, modern novels cannot say it for

There are different types of fossil fuels such as gas, oil, nuclear and the one mostly produced in Australia, coal. Australian government supplies energy from fossil fuels to the entire country as around 86% of electricity is generated from these fuels, with 73% from coaland 13% from natural gaswith renewable energysources making up 14% of Australia s electricity (origin,2015). Fossil fuels have advantages such as the reliability and efficiency because they generate huge amount of energy which is more reliable (Rinkesh,2009). They are also safe with easy transportation on large trucks or pumped through large pipes. However, fossil fuels

The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child. Carl Jung Strolling down memory lane, back to school experiences as a child, many different memories come flooding back; some positive ones, and some not as enjoyable. School is an environment that has great powers. It has the power to influence and shape us, no matter what grade level. Teachers need to realize the great responsibility they carry, for without them even knowing, they can make everlasting marks and impressions on their students, both positively and negatively, forever. Throughout my years in school, I can definitely pick and choose the methods, traits, and behaviors, that I would like to practice and emulate. Unfortunately though, I also learned the hard way, the traits and behaviors that I forever want to avoid and forget! Beginning with my ECE years, there are a few things that I remember very clearly. Firstly, which I find very important, my teachers used songs with whatever they were teaching. Music is the language of the soul is not a famous saying for nothing. Kids learn best through song, as opposed to just listening to teachers talk. This is true for all grades, not only Nursery. The fact that I still remember songs from

Chemical Equation: C6H5COONa + HCL C6H5COOH + NaCl Procedure: This experiment was started with a clear solution of sodium benzoate and HCl was added to it, ultimately producing benzoic acid. First, .3395 g of sodium benzoate was weighed, then it was dissolved in water, causing it to disassociate into ions. Next, 3M of HCl were added drop wise to the solution until it reached a pH of 2, thus introducing the hydronium ion. This addition caused a white, solid benzoic acid to precipitate out of the solution. A vacuum filtration system was used to separate the solid from the liquid. What was once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once, the precipitate was ready to be placed in the oven there was not enough time to allow for it to dry for 10 minutes. The precipitate was only in the oven for about 5 minutes, therefore, when weighed there was excess liquid in the precipitate. The final weight of the precipitate was .45 g which was more than the amount that was started with. From this end weight, it can be deduced that there was excess liquid in the end result. Post Lab: 1. The experiment began with a clear solution of sodium benzoate, once 3 M of HCl were added to achieve a pH of 2, the clear solution became a precipitate. Sodium benzoate was water soluble, but the yield of benzoic acid became quite insoluble in water. 3b. Although, a low amount of HCl was used, the waste can still cause health risks and risks to the environment because it was not just one person doing the experiment, therefore increasing the waste of HCl. Water was also used to wash the vial to remove all solids that might be sticking to the side of the vial, therefore, wasting water, which is not green. 4. If you start adding NaOH to the solution in small amounts, NaOH neutralizes part of the HCl, (moles of HCl to moles of NaOH) so the pH begins to increase slowly, this raises the soluability. This allows for the equivalent point to be reached: moles of HCl = moles of NaOH. By continuing to add the NaOH, pH will

Kids In Congo By Annie Oonard Analysis Annie Leonard creates a cohesive and influential argument against man s overwhelming reliance on consumption by integrating numerous personal anecdotes, popular environmental design philosophies, governmental initiatives, and corporations backward innovation tactics to reaffirm man s need to use their sociological imagination to truly see the world in front of them and fight for a more socially equitable and environmentally sustainable way of life. First, Leonard provides an all encompassing perspective of corporations and the government as they weave an overarching business safety net of monetarily driven intentions to protect the uncontrolled growth of capitalism in the American economy. The bottom up, American dream businesses, are overpowered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She first references many upstream efforts to change the way corporations and industries design, market, and produce their products. For instance, she frequently echoes the claims of the Upcycle s McDonough and Braungart to take the toxins out of the design process in the beginning, like Europe is doing with chlorine removal from paper (Leonard, 54). Leonard also continually references closing the loop for production materials and changing values to ensure design is environmentally and socially sound (Leonard, 84, 103). Biomimicry is also celebrated as an influential and revolutionary design tactic (Leonard, 19). While those efforts are more top down, Leonard also supports bottom up, such as Greenmanager (Leonard, 188). The author successfully incorporates many environmental initiatives and efforts into a comprehensive plan for moving forward. She embraces and encourages these efforts, but argues they are just placing more Band Aids on a leaky pipe, rather than dealing with the problem at hand, they are just not big or powerful enough. Rather, Leonard asserts there must be a civic engagement part to bring the accountability and responsibility back to the government and corporations (175). Leonard makes a great point, but
